Hello! I'm LadyRunic! But you knew that...
I love most types of Role Play, but by far my favorites are those that are well thought out and worked with. Especially when you can find a group you can work well with. I love books- So many books. It's a running bet that I will become buried under a pile of said objects one day... I'm a tad busy, and when an Rp really catches my interest I'm inpatient for posts. It's like reading a good book and getting stuck on a cliff hanger.
You can generally expect posts regularly once a week if not more.
I've RP'd for the better part of fourteen years, so I can honestly say I have some experience and I've developed the understanding of what I expect of a partner in a one-on-one or a group. I'm also the sort who will speak up and point out something if it looks off or forms a problem to me. I spent most of a year once stuck in a Voice Chat Rp that was hell on Earth, so I'm straight forward when I need to say something. I expect this in return from my Rpers and DMs. I want to improve my writing and love constructive criticism.
@Omni5876 Yes, after all it would be a bit ridiculous if you were carrying around an entire bear carcass for the entire day. Keeping the inventory updated will help keep my own mind straight on what people have.
Faeril sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the needlework she had settled back to do while their uninvited guest was below. It would hardly do for the Queen who presided over Winton to realize there was a Black Widow in her midst. The trouble that would cause could claim the life of the hope that the Eyrien woman had for their realm. As the thin needle slipped in and out of the cloth, Faeril's thoughts returned to her, dissatisfied with Fatima's reaction to her words. 'Liar.' She scolded herself absently as she crossed her ankles demurely. 'You just want to know what she meant by 'one of mine'. To find that one of this Lady Alice's men to belong in heart and soul to Fatima!' Shaking her dark head, Faeril hesitated slightly as a nagging suspicion came to her. Could it be a trap? A lure cast by another Black Widow? Faeril would like to think not, but there was reason for caution. Biting her lip and wondering if she dared risk it, she sent a tendril of thought along the Red to Jandar. A slim caress along his barriers to be accepted before she spoke mind to mind with the Warlord. 'Do keep an eye upon him. He may belong to her, but unless I can take a look myself, he could be spelled by a Black Widow. Be careful.' The Black Widow's mind voice was soft, a spider's whisper as she withdrew unless someone reached out to her.
Denvar and Gennar blinked in slight shock as Fatima became a simpering woman. Privately Denvar was very glad Faeril was up in the rooms where she could not see this farce being played out. Necessary or not, he doubted she would have been able to keep a straight face. Sharing a raised brow with his older brother the Warlord Prince shrugged slightly. The voice of the Warlord Prince was surprising and both brother wondered as to what caused it, but that would not be the last surprise for them. The man had dropped his glass, which Denvar had grabbed by the Craft and placed upon the counter, as Faeril basically moved to abscond with the lad. Denvar would have intervened but for a subtle shake of Gen's head. The Green Jeweled Eyrien considering Sybl with narrowed eyes. "The Lady would require an escort of her own." He rumbled to Fatima in a polite reminder. "Perhaps finding a dress and the beach after would allow time for the makers to suit it better to the Lady's liking?" The words were far more elegant than any average Eyrien, then again Gen had lived with Faeril for centuries. He had picked up a few things.
@Cyrania What village is she from? Why is she at Norn? Does she live there? Who is her father? What sort of clothing does she wear? Also, I know you said her kin is unknown but while she could be originally from North or South, it would also note the culture she was raised in. The culture would affect how magic is viewed with it being a rarity and all.
Eleven years spent learning the art of healing (not the magic) means she would be very decent at that considering she spent so much time learning more from him earlier. The magic bit would make her better than most, and I like that bit there. Though I would note the more serious the injury the harder it is the Heal with magic. Healing something (Disease or broken bone) completely and not just speeding up the physical healing would leave her extremely weak as would a major disease if she was unused to her abilities. For future reference.
However the songs and singing. That would take intent and a great deal of it from her to do. It would not be easy and I would call it underdeveloped rather than 'weak'. Her falling asleep from her own songs is a bit off I will admit. I could see it having no effect, or giving her a headache perhaps from the focus, and a sore throat from the singing. But that's an opinion and I'll defer to you if you want her to fall asleep.
As for reading, is she from the Southerners? Is her father a noble? Because books are rare/nonexistent just about. Scrolls, messages, parchment is a thing but books are something kept to nobles and the churches. The Northerners don't really have any use for them as their tales are kept by wise men and women.
@Omni5876 Toss your CS in a hider, and when I say equipment I mean whatever you have on you. Furs you have to trade included. If you say you have it and its not listed in there, then you do not have it is my general rule of thumb.
@Omni5876 I'd need the personality filled in for the sake of it, but other than that I'd feel ready to toss him into the character tab once I get it up in a day or two. I need the quality, not the quantity, and you are quality! And I think I have a character your Arn Thorstun will find very interesting that roams about Norn.
@Cyrania Correct me if I'm misunderstanding anything.
Potentially you could develop something like that. Magic is rough and in its infancy, meaning it can be shaped in different ways. You could sing someone to make them happy or sad, urge them to slip off to sleep, or curry their anger to a boiling point. But it takes focus and a fair bit of effort. With healing, you would need to know what herbs do, how to treat the wounds, set bones, and the magic you could have would amplify that and quicken the healing but taxing you with headaches and exhaustion.
You could learn to do both, but it would take a bit and would not be easy. Think of it like you are physically learning both without the magic aspect (which you would be doing since magic still needs physical aspect to work at the moment). You could become adept at both but it would take years and you would neglect your knowledge elsewhere. That being said, it sounds very interesting and reminds me of The Books of Pellinor by Alison Croggon. I would love to see a character who could pull that off!
@Omni5876 If I have only one person to work with, then I have one person to work with. If people don't mind that. Quality over quantity. Honestly, I know it's new and raw and people may not find that appealing to them, which is fair. However, I will openly admit if people cannot give me the brainpower and interest to keep a Roleplay moving then I don't want to be pouring in all the work as a GM for them. People who can engage my world and make me work to keep the world moving is what gives me pleasure.
My way of looking at it? It can be intimidating because there is no fandom to bounce off of. But it's very much the same to DnD where you can design a character to a world you may not know much about. I've Roleplayed a lot in worlds like this where you don't know much about the world, and you go into it not sure what to expect and build a story off that. Ask questions, dive into the unknown. Give me your all? And I'll give you every ounce of skill I have because while I run this world? I want you, my roleplayers, to enjoy discovering it.
The sun is just beginning to rise upon the start of human kind- among others- in this world of harsh reality. A small village, nestled within a mountainous valley is stirring. A large platform and a fire pit in the middle of the jumbled together structures. The houses and homes looking raw and built with the mind of winter snows. Small herds of tamed animals hover about still wandering off into the forest to live rather than staying put. Smaller fields look sorry with the little yield they give. But, there is a certain security and prosperity about the village. Leather and furs tan, hunting weapons, and a fisher's tools can be seen in stages of making.
Elsewhere, waking in the dawn, a raven takes wing. The southern seas and oceans are warm and bountiful giving way to small tribes that had dared to claim land and form cities. To self-proclaimed councils and kings clashing against one another. Farms give excess, craftsmen are becoming more prevalent, iron is being forged. Life is easy among plains and forests yielding bounties of their own. and the rivers streaming from far away mountains. But ever as the raven flies the ocean turns to the north. It's waters becoming frigid and cold. There are few such bounties in this land. The North is a place of different hardships. Farming is only beginning to be viable as basins in the mountainsides are carved out. Most tribes still relying on hunting, gathering, and perhaps the ever-so cautious raid upon their southern neighbors. The mountains that keep some secluded against their eastern sea and the great forests within its fingers, grasping the small tribes to its shadow. Turning west, the mountains reach higher. Up there- this bird cannot go. For behind the great spires. A new plain lies- a glacier. The impassable plains of ice.
There is more danger than the North men know. To the east are another group of people. The desert folk are said to be ancient southern folk who were banished into the great plains, high cliffs, and deserts of the east. They come raiding, taking what they wish. The great glacier that carves the mountains protects the North from these folk. None would cross a blinding light, missing food, water, and fire.
This is the world of Dissansel. New in its time, it's not a world of simple labors. For among all it's people walk those with special abilities. Bards, as they are known in the south. Skalds or shamans in the north. They are regarded either as a blessing or a threat. But always with suspicion. They may control the very elements of nature but at a price.
Landing the raven, watches the village. Curious to see if life will unfurl her wings and fly with him. Or if it shall fall into the jaws of destruction once more.
For this, I'm going to be really strict. Shamanistic, Druidism, and such. You're not going to be an all-powerful mage. You're at the beginning of time. Literally. Any magic you know is either learned experimentally, from someone else, but never from a book. The Southern folk are keeping their writings to temples and government. Below I've listed several suggestions of possible ideas. I'm open to more but they have to be able to match up with the era. Also, please not Magic is generally frowned upon as uncanny and it is generally thought that what one can do with one's own hands exceeds what one can do with magic.
These are examples, and I'm open to any suggestions.
The Green/Blue: You're linked to some part of the earth/water/snow and it is your specialty. i.e. You're linked to the forest so you call a stag to come to the village to feed the people. That's all well and good but there is a price. You are going to feel like you've been killed. Plus that will take quite some energy from you, versus if you were calling a squirrel. (No, no calling a massive amount of squirrels to eat or such. I said it now someone will attempt to do so.) If you were linked to a forest you can feel and sense what the forest feels and senses. Just as you could do such with water.
Speed: You can use magic to boost your speed for a short time, if you do it for a long time you risk anything from passing out for several days to death.
Singing/Music: Effect the mood of the people about you, draw animals to you. But once seen through it will no longer work- but you will still be a good singer! Hopefully!
Foresight: Dreams, casting some bones or some such thing. However they are hardly reliable as the present can follow many paths and not just that one. Expect headaches.
Scrying: You can scry lost items or get a feeling if someone is in danger. Perhaps conjure a image in water or something. Side effects are headaches, dizziness, retaliation perhaps if the magic has a way. I.e. A scrier looks in on another Skald but the Skald has a charm warning him of this and blessed. It retailates damaging the Scrier. (Be warned that is dangerous, due to the mind being harmed. Not the body)
And a list of what I'm saying no to. Shadows and wind cannot be physical. No transforming into a animal. By that, I mean FULL transformation. You may understand what they say or pick up animalistic traits but not physically become one. No calling up giant natural disasters. We want to keep an RP going, not kill it then beat it with a stick. No teleportation. No reading minds, you can read intent. i.e. You see a man and instantly feel something off, even though his is charming. You hear a voice and know they mean no harm but the tone is threatening.
Of the three people only two are really going to be about and of those two; Northerns are going to be more common in the village. Folk from the south will be regarded with suspicion, and consider a very high risk within a Northern village, same goes for a North man in the South- if they are not a coast village or forest edge village raiding in their ships or on their two feet. The Western Raiders are most likely NOT going to be there at all. They'd either get across the glacier- which is essentially impossible in the day and age, or get through the southern lands. Which again- would most likely get the person killed on sight. Not to mention language barriers and new dangerous beasts and weather.
Northerns generally are tallest of the three. Burly mountain folk. Fair hair tends to come from the seaside residing folk. Essentially burly folk with a good dash of the more mixed in Southern blood in their southern reaches. Southerns are shorter, more refined. Generally, they can be anything or look anyway. A mixture of folk brought together via kingdoms. They are all fairer of skin, the darker shades mixed in from travelers and sailors from across the sea. The Easterns are tall, some are rather hawklike, while others have more of an otherworldly air about them. Not much is known about the reasons for this. They all have darker hair, with lighter eyes. Some ranging to gold, amber, even the rare lilac or red. Something that many claim them for being demons. Those who do see them, have witnessed and survived a raid or watched captured raiders being put to the death. They are notorious for their captives never coming back.
Armor and weaponry are pretty simple. Leather armor is more common but metal armor is out there and it's going to be rare. Swords are extremely rare in the north and a sign of nobility in the South; axes, spears and bows being more common. Just think early times. Weapons are made for two things, fighting and gathering food and possibly wood in the axe case. However- you will most likely have a different axe for wood than you do for fighting.
More places will be added as they come up, generally, this is a starting point but you may go anywhere and do anything.
The Village of Norn: The little village where this starts is near enough to the border that Southerners pass through from time to time. But they bring business so while there is some issue with it, but it brings trade to the village. So there are few complaints. There Headman here is Lerguth Burkison, a large man who cares more for getting the small harvest in and turning it into ale. The village sports a blacksmith's, though it also doubles for one of the leatherworker. It's small. Relying on the forest more than trade or farmland.

Let's start this off with the 18+ rule. There will be gore, violence, drugs (berserkers, anyone?). This is not an excuse to excessively use expletives in your posts on every single line or make things graphic This is a newly made world, humans are fighting for survival and there will be fights. There will be death. Keep things PG and reasonable and within the lines of RpGuild guidelines, but be aware that this is a warning. People in the early times did not have it easy.
Be respectful and communicate. This Roleplay is driven by what your characters do, so keep in mind that you are all sharing this world and communicate to that end. Communicate whenever there is the possibility that they may be affected by something you planned. Player death is a thing but it needs to be agreed upon and realistic. If you get yourself in a bad situation be aware that you need to keep an out for your character or death could very well happen.
This Roleplay is character-driven. As in, what you do matters. I will take control of NPCs if they are big guys or you need something to bounce off of. So Kings, Queens, chiefs, a group of bandits that suddenly jumps out at you? I got that, but if you want to toss your own NPCs in there? Children your talking to, your family, your friends? Go for it! If you want to play your main character and have side characters? Go for it! I just ask for a short character sheet that can give me general info on any side characters that are going to be sticking about so I can keep them in order and not have two Geoffery Hamlets running about. That being said, what you do in this world matters. You will affect the history of this world, you could form a school for magic users, take over a kingdom or a chiefdom, become a bandit, cross the glacier, operate a shop or a farm... You name it? I'll work with it. You may have horrible things happen from time to time because that's life, but keep moving. Keep going and remember that your actions? Shape the world.
Starting in the village called Norn and the surrounding valley, then I'll start tossing a spiel of problems at you. You can choose to travel or remain in place or whatever! Let's see if anyone is interested.
The little old woman who ran the small tavern-inn gave Sybl a slightly irritated look. Everyone in Winton knew about their Lady's kept man or thought they did. The rumors were fast and furious about what Prince Sybl had done in other towns and villages and what services he offered, which were whispered and openly talked about and spanned from one end of the spectrum of jobs to the other. Having returned from her own trip to restock the small tavern that gave those who rented rooms above a decent place to eat, the tiny woman huffed and slid a steep glass of scotch to the man. The rest of the bottle was left on the counter as the woman retreated to the kitchen. Allowing her guests the run of the main floor, and keeping herself out of any souring conversation. Two Eyriens getting their hackles up was a plain warning to the fact trouble could very well be going down.
Gen and his brother exchanged slightly annoyed looks, Bellinar had disappeared again and while they were concerned as to what their brother was doing the pressing matter of Sybl's presence was a looming threat to the Queen they had pinned their hopes upon and their dear friend. But an agreement was reached and Gen, still riding a bit of a foul mood, sauntered over to lean against the wall at the foot of the stairs lest the Warlord Prince attempt to go up them and discover Faeril. Denvar, who was far more sociable, stepped back to allow Fatima to be seen and to see those about her better. Straying over towards Sybl, a Warlord Prince he could not be sure of."So you are here to act a guide... Generous of your lady. What sights do you recommend?" A slight cover to allow the others to gather themselves.
But a thought seemed to knock upon the outer shields of Fatima's mind. The place where surface thoughts and ideas were obvious, for the deeper in the mind one went the further into the self of the person they invaded. Learning more and more personal things. To invade another's mind was the Craft of the Black Widows, but any member of the Blood who had power enough could do it. The effects of what they could and would find varied. "I have been confined to the upper levels apparently. Gen informs me-" There was a troubled feel to the Eyrien woman's tone as she spoke on a distaff thread, woman to woman, with the Queen. A reluctance and almost apologetic thread wormed into the mental words but slight humor broke the edge off them. "That we have a guest who is of the Court of the Queen of Winton. He's not First Circle, is he? Though, another matter requires your attention and judgment." There was the source of Faeril's trouble as she relayed what she had learned of Dareen. The Black Widow quite obviously was torn as she was indeed furious at what had been done to her sister and knowing it had been on some level survival on Dareen's part. There was no room for forgiveness, not yet but perhaps in time.
