Name: Liam McLain
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Marked: No
Appearance Skills and Talents
Overall Role: Factotum/Floater/General Purpose Wizard/Youcancallhimfodderifyouwantbutnotreally
Talents
- Apparition; Liam passed his Apparition test the first time around with perfect marks. Given an unprotected destination or lacking confinement by jinxes and charms, he can perform this feat of magic like Hell, and can quickly pop to-and-fro with near-prodigious speed and very little time thinking time.
- Magical Versatility; whereas many witches and wizards find themselves falling into specialized magical professions, Liam is more of a all-around proficient wizard, able to converse and practice competently, though not always expertly, in just about any given area of magical work. Whether it’s holding out in a battle or assisting in the potions chambers, McLain is a functional and adaptable team player.
- Two-World Experience; Liam has spent just about as much time among the Muggle world as he has among witches and wizards. He is able to operate effectively in both without overtly risking blowing his cover.
Weaknesses
- Loose-Cannon; Liam is absolutely sickened by the thought of staying put or hiding out while others are making themselves useful. Constantly out to make what difference he can, he rarely exercises caution over himself. He has no qualms about breaking orders if those orders involve the words ‘just wait.’
- Alcohol; for all of his brilliance when it comes to thinking matters and things that generally require an uninfluenced head, Liam stays incredibly close to his flasks and bottles. He claims that it’s just his way of coping with the world, yet, in an affirmation of stereotypes, he finds just about every excuse to crack open the liquor. In his most frequented expression: “Either we succeed and save lives, or we fail and lives are lost; either way I have a reason to drink.” At any rate, he seems to have a very high tolerance for the creature.
- Zero-Tolerance for Failure; Liam is utterly disgusted with himself when he does not perform optimally. While he’s rarely seen drunk, in spite of his alcoholism, he manages to reach this point after particularly rough missions, especially those during which his own errors resulted in defeat or failure.
- Multi-tasking; to be fair, under ideal conditions he’s actually pretty good at this. The problem is that it’s never an ideal condition. Liam has the tendency to fill his cauldron to the brim with tasks when he really gets going. It’s very possible that he has some extent of attention defecate hyperactivity, as he frequently jumps from one project to the next. He earnestly thinks that he’s capable of doing everything at once though.

Biography
Views: Forged from his lineage and upbringing, Liam is a crafted and honed advocate for fairness and justice for all individuals, regardless of race, species, creed, etc. Being a half-blooded wizard, he finds sympathy and respect for both sides of heritage. He views Muggles as being worthy of respect for their innovations in technology that have allowed them to live in good standards without magic, just as he honors the powers bestowed upon the magical communities of the world. Knowing that neither the Muggle nor Magical worlds are free of flaws, with filled with prejudice among their own kin, he sees a necessity in learning cooperation even between the two ‘worlds.’
History: Liam McLain was born a Half-Blooded wizard to two Half-Blooded parents in Ireland, very near to the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland. As a result of these circumstances, his early life was filled with learning about both the magical and non-magical worlds. For the first ten years of his life, his parents were insistent on his attendance at a Muggle school. This insistence, and the primary education that it provided Liam, was critical in his formative years, shaping his positive outlook on Muggles and their lives before ever setting both feet into the realms of magic. By the time he received his acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he had already been well-educated in the balance of his blood. This would reflect throughout his tenure at the school, particularly in his openness toward Muggle-born students who felt out of place in their new environment.
Liam would spend seven years at Hogwarts. While he was known to be quite sociable and friendly towards others, he was noted as an academic madman by his professors. He had an uncanny resolve to take every class the school had to offer at least once while he was there, and, surprisingly, performed reasonably well in every one of them; “if he hadn’t been stacking his workload so high, he might have gotten Outstandings on all of his examinations,” was the vein of what was typically said of him. Regardless of how thinly he tried to spread himself, Liam emerged as well-rounded student, bringing home at least an “Acceptable” on all of his O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s. He remained somewhat active among the student body as well through his seven years, finding involvement in several clubs and serving as an alternate chaser for his Ravenclaw House Quidditch Team.
Throughout his life and education, Liam remained driven the one day join the Ministry of Magic and aid in the efforts against the Dark Lord Voldemort. However, as soon as he had left the walls of Hogwarts for the last time, the Ministry opened in support of the Dark Lord and Death Eaters. This drastically changed Liam’s plans, as the entire magical community flew into a frenzy, and war became all the more apparent in everyday life. Abandoning his plans of working for the Ministry, he departed to his home. But he only stayed there for a short while, assisting the efforts of his parents and grandparents to ensure their safety in the troubling times to come. He stayed with his family on their protected homestead for the next three months, waiting out the summer to get a tap on everything happening around them.
Though it was originally the intention for him to stay put where it was safe, Liam grew restless. As the summer months waned, and news of more deaths and disappearances mounted, he came to the decision that hiding out on the countryside was not becoming of him or his ideals. Against the urges of his family, he departed from the homestead returned to England. Despite that the Order of the Phoenix had fractured over the months, Liam quickly sought out Albus Dumbledore, requesting that he join the ranks of the Order. Being that Liam was of age, Dumbledore accepted him as a member, and began putting him to work. After many mundane missions proving both his loyalty and value to the Order, Liam’s general-purpose was noted, and he began seeing action of all sorts on many different fronts in the Order’s efforts against Voldemort; occasionally this lead to some confrontation with the splinter group known as the Ashes, though it never escalated to violence.
He would go on to serve the Order of the Phoenix for nearly seven years. He left the Order in 1998, scattering with the rest of its members in the wake of Dumbledore’s death. Still wishing to continue in the resistance against the Death Eaters, he sought the Ashes, quickly taking place among their ranks as a “workhorse.” Without delay, he began operations, hoping to rebuild his reputation among his new comrades.
