Bio

Hello everyone. I'm Dutch, a mother of a 8-year old boy and I love both rp-ing and writing. Since May 2020 I'm one of the contests mods.

I started with writing Dutch stories in 2002, I was already 19 at that time. I joined a writing competition and that got me started. Soon I started to write down all the stories my over-active imagination came up with. I had my first forum rp experience in 2003 on a Dutch fantasy forum. While I continued to write, I stopped rp-ing when the particular rp and forum slowly died. In 2011 my love for rp's rekindled when I joined a site with a forum and I started to RP solely in English since that is the language of the site. This is also when I wrote my first story in English.

I've got a few 1x1 rp's going on this site and a couple more on another site. I've always been a fan of writing competitions and I joined a lot several of the ones that were hosted on this website. Now I get to host them myself and really enjoy that too.

When you come here to check if I'm online, know that even when I show as online I might not be able to respond to RP's. I open this site so that when I have time I can spend some time here, but I don't always end up with the time to do so.

If I haven't replied in a while, feel free to poke me. I don't ghost on purpose, sometimes I just forgetful and if I read your reply and accidentally closed the tab I might forget I was supposed to reply T_T

As they walked to the orphanage, Fenna listened to Barracker and the two children pointing out their favourite places, until the ran off. From what Fenna could see, the orphanage was a well-kept place and the children living here were happy. She smiled when she was introduced to Anne, the mother of this place.

Fenna waved her hands when she was introduced as the one killing Aurok. "It really was a team effort, I couldn't have done it without my friends," she reminded the children, although she realised it was a futile thing. Hopefully word wouldn't get around too far. The last thing she wanted was to be known as "Fenna, slayer of Aurok".

When one of the children introduced herself, she smiled and leaned in a bit. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Isabella.'

As the children started talking and playing among each other, the adults had a few moment to themselves. Anne was kind and asked where she was from (far away was all Fenna said) and if she enjoyed the city (a beautiful place). Fenna complimented Anne on the children and how she cared for them, adding that it was sad a place like this was necessary, but the children seemed happy. The conversation turned to motherhood and Fenna was happy to talk about her children for a moment.

When it was time to go she walked with Barracker back to the inn and listened to the explanation of Cerberus. It sounded like a dangerous beast. Would it be in the same classification of Aurok? She was careful not to make any promises. It wasn't that she didn't want to help Barracker, but could they? And where even was Corsica? She did express her compassion about losing his mentor and how awful it was so many people had died already.

"To be honest," Fenna said after Barracker called her gifted. "I had not fired my bow before today. I haven't used it in combat, I only used my spear." Again she realised how odd it was she could fight with it, even though she had never wielded one before. "I guess I prefer close combat, or, well, semi-close. Spear-lenght."

The moment Barracker mentioned the falcon she looked up. "Oh yes, that is Sil. She... I don't know exactly how it happened, but something clicked and now we hang together." She smiled as she talked about it, as she always did when she mentioned the falcon. It was nice having her around.

Once inside the inn, Fenna turned to Barracker. "It was nice talking with you and seeing the orphanage. I look forward to working with you."
After that she told him and any of her companions who were still in the common area that she'd return to her room, and she asked the bartender to have a meal brought to her room. The only thing she had planned was to wash up and have a final shower before leaving on their next mission the next day. She wished them all a pleasant evening and went to her room.
Fenna turned to Tyron when he asked his question. Help Barracker hunt down a beast called Cerberus. There were so many things to consider, and the boy looked at her with such innocence and hope. "I'll see what I can do," she said. It wasn't something she could decide alone and the main mission was to return home, but since Barracker would help them, it was only fair if they would help him as well. If it wasn't on the other side of the world. "I'll bring it up to my team leader," she added.

She smiled when Barracker said kids had the best interest at heart for others and agreed to that sentiment, stating Tyron was a good kid.

When Eren went back to the shooting range and smiled at her, she decided to stay a little and watch him shoot arrows. When she noticed Barracked addressed her, she turned to him. "I don't have any plans, I'd be happy to tag along for a bit. We're staying at the same place tonight." She paused as she watched Eren practice. He was improving, but it'd take more training to be good at it. It was a joy watching him, and Tyron was adorable as well.

When Tyron moved a bit closer to Eren to encourage him, Fenna stood next to Barracker. "Maybe you can tell me more about Cerberus on the way to the Mended Drum," she said to him.

Sil circled over the shooting range and flew down to the tree closest to Fenna. She settled there and watched for a moment, ready to fly up when she would start walking.
When Freya didn't move, she was picked up and put in a van. They contacted the research facility to let it be known they had secured the subject, and Lily's assistant rushed to her to deliver the news. Lily clapped her hands.
"Oh, that is exciting! Give them instructions to bring her to the room where her son is. It should be big enough for the two."
She glanced around the room for the last time. "Let me know if anything changes."

She returned to her office, and checked the monitors to see what her lovelies were up to. The person who had watched the screens filled her in on the visuals. "Gather a team of security, I'm going to visit them on their floor."
"Ma'am, that's dangerous."
"That's why I'll take guards, but so far they haven't been aggressive towards me. Let's go."
Andy rubbed his chin as he thought about what he had heard about Articuno. "Unfortunately it's not as good as what they say about Ho-oh. One thing people say is that you can make it snow by chilling the moisture in the atmosphere, but they also say you appear to doomed people who are lost in icy mountains. This is not entirely accurate because I was lost and you showed up, but that didn't doom me. You saved me. Some also say your wings are made of ice and that you live in snowy mountains riddled with permafrost." He shrugged. "I don't know how the lore that you only appear to doomed people who are lost came to be, because how can those doomed people say they saw you? I considered seeing you a blessing."

Michael turned to Niccia when she asked her question and nodded. "You are considered the ancestor of Pokémon, because it's said Mew can learn every move. And that you only appear to those people who are pure of heart and have a strong desire to see it." He smiled a bit. "Just like with Ho-oh, I guess we like to flatter ourselves and consider some encounters only possible for the pure of heart." He thought about it. "I think that was it. Some also believed you were extinct because so very few people ever saw a Mew in recent times, but others said you could turn yourself invisible which was the reason for the very few encounters."

Netherlu chucked and put this hands on his hips. "Humans have a great imagination, but they did get some facts right. I'd love to hear more about the others as well, but let's go first. That way!" He made a step, then turned when Andy pointed in the other direction. "Let's go!"
"how can it be your fault?" Marc questioned, reaching out to touch her shoulder. "Sara, why do you think it's your fault? Did you know this would happen?"
This whole thing, it just didn't make sense. Why was Ray suddenly moved? Why did Sara react like this. He noticed Benjamin standing close.

"She'll die if we won't find her." His mind still felt foggy, but he was clear enough to know what happened and stable enough to stand, just barely. His legs felt weak and he wasn't sure he could walk very far, but he wanted to see Dia. "I'm going to find her," he muttered as he walked away, using his hand to support himself, staying close to the wall.

Welcome to the Voting and Feedback round for RPGC#38!

I asked for your interpretation of invisibly and that resulted in these stories. The writers did a great job, now it's up to the readers to cast their votes.

Voting and Feedback guidelines

  • Please take your time to read through all the entries before voting for your favourite work. The reasons you base your vote on are up to you, as long the vote isn’t based on whether or not you like the author.
It would be nice if you could share why you voted for a specific work.
  • Giving feedback is optional but highly encouraged. When giving feedback you should be respectful and constructive. It’s good to point out any flaws or the things you feel could be improved or why you didn't like something, but don’t be mean.
Make sure to point out what you liked or appreciated in the entry too.
  • Contestants may and are encouraged to vote for and give feedback for the other entries, but don’t vote for your own entry. If contestants wish to withhold a vote and only give feedback, that is good too.
  • The entries are anonymous unless the writer asked to have their name added. That being said, writers may claim their work at any time during the voting period.
  • The entry with the most votes will win, but in case of a tie a Contest Mod will cast the tie-breaker vote.
  • You can vote for entries and post your feedback in this thread, but if you rather have your vote and/or feedback be anonymous you can PM it to @Loksfjoer.
  • The voting period deadline is November 4th, 9:00 CET, which is 8:00 server time (both times are in a.m.).

The Invisible Man

How long has it been? To be seen by another. I have been here waiting to be seen. I feared I was forgotten, that time had erased all traces of my existence, and it was all for nought. Do not fear me, do not flee, please stay, stay a little while and humor me. Grace me with conversation, with your presence, anything to stave off the curse of being unseen. I am not what you see, I will not harm you, so please find it in your heart to stay, I will take your pity if it is all you will give me, your goodwill if you are generous enough. But please I beg of you to stay, do not leave me to the darkness of solitude, the grim despair of loneliness, for I can no longer bear it once you have seen me. I know you saw me, our eyes met, and I would ask you to give more than just a passing glance. Though I can offer nothing in return, for I have nothing left, nothing you can take, and thus nothing I can give. I know it is unfair, and perhaps you are used to having more transactional relationships with others. But assure you, I am destitute and alone, a broken shadow of what I once was, and were I to be wearing your shoes, I would not stoop so low to wallow with my wretched self. See, I can understand it, were our roles reversed, and you were the one beseeching me for the mercy of company, I would be repulsed by the unwashed filth and rags. I would never deign myself to be seen with such a miserable cretin, but you look kinder than I am. Younger, better, more exuberant and hale, you would be my hero. Yes, I guess that is what I have left to offer in return for your time spent with me, I would idolize you, worship you, and sing your praises with all my hollowed heart. Would it be enough for you, or would you need more for your time? What is the worth of a measure of respect from a nobody, a poor trade in turn, not worth your time. Perhaps it was better if we had never met. Go on then, turn away from me, do not gaze upon me with those eyes anymore, forget me. Leave me to the shadows from whence I came, I will dwell there a little more, forlorn until the guilt gnaws away at you. Then the day will come when the memory of my eyes, so full of hope at looking into yours in finding a kindred soul who saw me, will haunt your mind and weigh heavily in your heart. A burden you will bear as you go through your life, and wonder if you were the parasite in our brief relationship. For I had given you what little I had left, what hope I had clung to, my belief in you. And when you come to try and find me, I will be gone invisible to the world once more, and time will have erased all traces of my existence. Except in your mind, where you will always see me.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," Fenna said to Tyrion and turned her attention to Eren. "I did see that, that was a very good shot," she immediately complimented the young boy. Children needed the praise and she was happy to deliver.
In the silence that fell, Barracker took the opportunity to introduce her to the children and she smiled to them when he told them her name.
She made note of the fact being in a party was a good thing, at least in the family of these children.
Then Aurok's name got dropped and all the attention was on her.

"I didn't do it alone," she quickly said. "It was a team effort." This wasn't a good time to talk about the ninja or the people that had died. "We all did our part, I attacked from one side with my spear while it was blinded by a spell and the others attacked from other sides as well. There is no way that beast could be slain by one person alone. I can tell you one thing." She leaned in as if she wanted to let them in on a secret. "I can tell you he smelled really bad. I was up close and phew" she waved her hand in front of her nose. "Be glad you weren't there."
Deadline time!

There are 5 entries this round. I'll create the voting and feedback thread today and post the link in the sidebar when it's up.

Thank you for joining!
2 days and 22 hours before the deadline.
Fenna tried to replicate what she had done before, but was unable to find that feeling again. She was certain it was still there, somewhere just out of reach. Maybe she just needed a little break. She let the others fire shots and was happy to be a spectator for a moment.
Here she was, practising archery in a world far away from her own, dressed in leather armour. Even though she was dressed like most people here, she felt out of place. A foreigner in this strange world.

It was an odd feeling that in a strange world like this, she would come across a familiar face. Barracker, if she recalled correctly, she had been introduced when she and Lilliana had returned from the church. Other than the brief introduction, they hadn't talked yet. If they were going to travel together, she might as well get to know him.

She joined him when Eren hit the target and smiled as he celebrated in joy, watching someone young achieve something and be proud of themselves was endearing. And it brought back memories.
"I remember when my son got a skateboard - a plank with wheels - and wanted to do a trick with it. He practised until he could and when he succeeded he was about as happy as he was," she said, nodding her head towards Eren. "Is this his first time at a shooting range?"
Was shooting range the right word? Fenna wasn't sure, but ultimately didn't care much, she was certain Barracker would know what she meant. Yes, she had a bow now, but she knew very little of how everything associated with it was called.
