<Snipped quote by LupusIntus> Sure is a shame that's not Velvet's lot, she gets laid out by ALL the religious symbols. Shinto counts.
The ultimate power move to get her to leave Max alone, incidentally, is for him to pull an Uno reverse card and bite her. She'll be so confused she'll need to take a while to evaluate.
Well it’s a good thing Max views his mint condition Amazing Spider-Man volume 1 cover miss-print as a holy symbol.
That's an interesting question. My Western mind is struggling to answer. It'd be a Shinto talisman, but would a sealing talisman be a religious - you're right, that'd be mean - object? It'd be Kami powered, so I suppose so.
I know in SOME vampire lores of the modern sort, the weakness to holy symbols comes more from the vampire's own beliefs or the beliefs of the person wielding the symbol.
NAME: Marcus Croninberg APPEARANCE (photos welcome!): Andrew is a tall, lanky 19 year old with a mob of curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. His features are soft, boyish, but his gaze has an intensity that belies his years and makes him appear much older than he is. CAMP ACTIVITY: Creative Writing CABIN NAME: Golden Eagle CAMPER LIST -Andy F: (14yo) The defacto leader of the Golden Eagle campers. Quiet, composed, gets along with everyone except Billy. -Billy J: (14yo) ‘Bully Billy’ is a headstrong, aggressive, and abrasive youth. Hyper competitive and hates to lose. Fights most often with Andy. -Pierce M: (14yo) Older brother to Franklin, best friend to Andy. Jokester, goofy, smartass. -Franklin M (13yo) Younger brother to Pierce, added to the ‘older’ cabin because his parents insisted he be with his brother. Constant tagalong. -Tommy T. (14yo) Shy, awkward, science nerd. Most common target of Billy. BACKGROUND: Marcus grew up in Los Angeles, California but moved with his family to Seattle during his junior year of high-school when his dad got a new job. He didn’t handle the uprooting well and struggled through his last few years, only managing to get into a local college. Feeling a bit lost and directionless, he ended up taking a counselor job at Camp Hideaway the previous year. He really did love the position, especially being outdoors in the wilderness, and was overjoyed to find himself returning for another summer. CURSE: The Lost Miner - the spirit of a miner buried in a cave-in the early 1900s. During the initial collapse, he and several others had been outside the shaft but rushed in with rescue gear in an attempt to save those down below. The mine owners, however, after learning about the ongoing disaster ended up sabotaging the lift in an attempt to cover up their lax safety precautions. The Lost Miner was the final one to die down in the depths, long after the lamps had all burned out. Now he curses anyone who dares tread within the darkness. When manifesting the curse an oily, black jumpsuit grows over Marcus’ body, completely with a partial gas mask. He gains incredible strength, enough to destroy a boulder with a bare fist, but as he draws more of the curse’s energy the gas mask tightens over his face and he loses more and more of his vision until he’s completely blind and can only lash out at those around him.
((With heavy inspiration from the anime/manga 'Dandadan', this is the OOC page for a ghost and alien filled adventure at a campground in the Pacific Northwest.))
Hey, thanks for taking the job. I know it was a bit last-minute but we weren't sure of our final camper roster until last weekend. The pay isn't great, I'll admit, but you'll be spending your entire summer deep in the untouched Washington wilderness without any pesky 'laptops' or 'cellphone signal' to distract you from the beauty of nature.
Or something like that...
Anyway, you'll have your own cabin with 5 or 6 kiddos to watch over and your only job will be to make sure they have the best ding-dang summer of their lives. Seriously, it needs to be the best. I gotta get these kids locked in for at least 3 or 4 more summers before they go off to high school! Any luck and they'll have younger brothers and sisters to follow along after; keep the lights on a few more years. That's why I assigned you a 'camp activity' to manage alongside your cabin. We offer the simple things, real 'traditional American campground' stuff like art classes, hiking, swimming, archery, canoeing, all that good stuff. The area is pretty dang beautiful too, if I do say so myself, so even though everything runs on a genny and there isn't any air conditioning in the buildings there's still a lot to appreciate! And all you gotta do is make sure the buggers are having fun and staying safe.
This last part is vitally important as the area is chalk-full of old caves and pitfalls so never leave the trails and feel free to keep up the 'Haunted Mine Shaft' stories if it keeps the kiddos in their bunks all night. Anyway, Susy and I are looking forward to finally meeting you next week! Campers arrive on the 13th of June so you'll have a few days to get acclimated and meet the other counselors before we get into the swing of things. Should be a nice and easy summer! -Head Counselor Dave
Formerly an old mining town built on the shores of Guppy Lake near the end of the Western 'Gold Rush', this small campground spouts 8 large cabins, two pavilions, a dock, and an ampitheater. Six of the cabins consist of two long rows of bunk beds that will house each group of campers, roughly separated by age (8 through 14). Head Counselor Dave Mattis and Assistant Head Counselor Susy Smith live in the seventh cabin and the eighth houses the camp kitchen, which will be manned by the former two for the duration of the summer. The dock includes a long pier as well as a covered space for two dozen canoes and a small metal motar boat (for emergencies only) and the pavilions have plenty of tables and benches for meal time and craft activities. The nearest point of contact is a gas station roughly 40 minutes away by car and food and supply deliveries come in once per week on Sunday. Beyond the campground itself is the North Cascades National Park, a mountainous region full of the remains of unmarked mining operations from the late 1800s. One particularly large mining shaft is only a short hike from the campground itself, coloquially dubbed 'The Haunted Mine Shaft' for its history of eerie tales of unexplained lights and sounds, though many of these are purely exagerations or fabrications by previous campers and staff. No one really knows just how true those stories are.
THE STAFF
Somewhere in his late 30s, Dave Mattis looks as tired and worn out as he feels. While he seems genuinely invested in Camp Hideaway it's clear the stresses of trying to keep the place afloat are taking their toll. He's lazy, sarcastic, and slightly abrasive but he means well and cares for everyone's wellbeing.
Completely opposite of Dave, the 30 year old Susy is a brand new hire for the camp and brings her unflinching optimism and bubbly attitude to everything camp-related. She is clearly the glue holding the entire place together and can always be relied upon to help a camper or counselor in need.
THE WORLD It's the modern era, filled with cell phones and YouTube and Starbucks and Spotify. Ghosts and aliens appear just as they do: often as overproduced History Channel shows or embarrasing articles in tabloids. Few know that these begins actually do exist, that psychic powers are real in a microscopic percentage of the human population, and that the Earth is constantly on the verge of galactic invasion if not for the horrifically powerful spirits and ghosts that unwittingly repel such alien beings with their own terrifying spiritual energies. Ghosts, spirits, yokai: these beings move among us, often unseen as either protectors or stalkers, or they lurk in the dark places their energies are drawn to and amplified. They can be just as dangerous to humans as the threats among the stars.
YOU You are a new camp counselor, ready to start your summer at Camp Hideaway. You may have some latent psychic powers, ones you're completely unaware of, or perhaps you've always had some feeling of connection with the occult or the spiritual. Or perhaps you don't believe at all! Either way, while sitting around the camp fire during your second night at Camp Hideaway when someone suggests engaging in an old counselor tradition, one that finds you all stepping into the oppressive darkness of 'The Haunted Mineshaft' with flashlights and chalk in hand. "Go down to the bottom of the main tunnel and write your name on the 'wall-of-terror'! Only then will you be considered a TRUE counselor of Camp Hideaway!"
PSYCHIC ABILITIES These include all manner of natural, latent psychic manifestations such as Pyrokenisis, Telekenisis, Hydrokenisis, Telepathy, ect.
SPIRITUAL POWERS This is strength or power that comes from outside influence, such as through the genuine worship of a God or Diety. It manifests through ritual actions, such as exorcisms, but can appear very similar to psychic abilities.
CURSES There are two distinct forms of ethereal being: 'ghosts', which are the souls of a human lingering on earth due to a powerful bond or unfinished buisness, and 'spirits', which are emotional entities completely divorced from humanity and the human experience. Ghosts who linger on Earth for too long will find their memories and emotional controls decay until they lose themselves completely and become spirits. Spirits may either be former ghosts or otherworldy entities like gods, demigods, nature spirits, ect. who never lived as humans. Beings from both categories may be well-meaning or malicious but spirits tend to lack the proper context to empathize with humans while ghosts often become lost in their own powerful emotions felt at death. Either form may 'curse' a human, bestowing them with a portion of their energy. In most cases, this energy will feed off their host until their death, but occassionally it grants the host superhuman abilities in line with the being who cursed them. Using these abilities takes a toll, but could allow someone to combat other spirits or psychic forces.
NAME: APPEARANCE (photos welcome!): CAMP ACTIVITY: (What classes can you teach?) CABIN NAME: CAMPER LIST: (4-5 camper names/personalities) BACKGROUND: PSYCHIC POWER, SPIRITUAL ABILITY, or CURSE: (this will be unlocked during the first part of our adventure...)
Will it be a teletype machine? Ouija board? A scrabble board with all the tiles facing up in their trays?
Various volumes of Foreign Language dictionaries? (There's now a $5 reward posted for the return of the Cthulhu/English dictionary, last seen in the ventilation ducts of the first building laundry room - approach with caution.) (Yes, there's a reason some of these books are chained to the shelves - and it's not because we're afraid they'll get stolen.)
Picture menus?
Special Ghost & Vampire Mirrors? (mind you, Qaymu has a hard time with his human illusion not being seen in mirrors.)
A soundboard with various buttons? Or just a rack of bells with different signs on them?
A rack of pamphlets with various topics like "How to get past being petrified", "Snake or Vampire Bite? How to tell the difference", "After effects of Neuralization", "What to do in the event your limb was ripped off", "Human-Monster Relations", "How to obtain your Unseen Library Book Pass", "Evasion techniques when being chased by a mob", "Undead and loving it", and of course the "Pamphlet for the Recently Deceased." Despite that last one having never being removed, its somehow become sticky with protoplasm.
Last but not least, the 43 volume set of Umbra Rose Condo Istruzioni - the first two books are red, being the emergency procedures (ranging from "Unintentionally turned to stone" to "someone called the ghostbusters/a ghost hunter tv show" to "the FBI are at the front door with a warrant in hand"). Don't miss the two blue volumes at the end - the thick one is the index, the thin one is the index to the index.
Oh! The Book of the Dead and the Book of High Spirits. Mustn't forget those two.
Max just getting out of the shower before work, screams as he sees a message written in the fogged up mirror "3rd floor hallway lightbulb needs replacement."
An illusionary barrier makes sense: appears like a nondescript building from the outside, nothing can be seen through the windows, people just sort of 'forget' it's there the instant they look away. It's like THERE in the real world but the barrier just affects outsider perceptions.

Here to complete the trifecta of werewolf, vampire and ghost.

Ghost

Suzy is your bog-standard ghost girl.
The general populace can't actually see Suzy, and most attempts to photograph her she appears as a small speck of light, almost like a dust bunny. Those who are able to see Suzy, which tends to be the youth or the neighbor's dog due to their strong spiritual connections, will see a incorporeal teenaged kid, pale and almost sickly-looking at times.
Since most people are unable to see Suzy, she often results to screwing with people or things. If your electronics are going haywire, the temperature drops or things are being thrown about, then Suzy is likely in the room with you. The thought of possessing someone has crossed her mind, but Suzy is (unironically) deathly afraid to try it.
[ ❇ ] R E Q U I R E M E N T S
Suzy needs a place devoid of salt and iron. She has already experienced great anguish once before (duh, she was murdered), and would not like to experience it again.
Ghost hunting tools, such as an EVP recorder, are also helpful despite her dislike for such tools. They help her communicate to those who she isn't able to reach out to. A double-edged sword, in other words (one hopefully not made of iron!).
[ ❇ ] P E R S O N A L I T Y
Suzy tends to be a sarcastic individual.
When she was alive, Suzy had been your stereotypical "good kid", bright-eyed and cheerful. She'd help out anyone with homework and was on every teacher's good side. But when you're the victim of a serial killer, you tend to see the world more like those outcasts who hated the "goodie two-shoes" you once were. Nowadays, Suzy is much more bleak, and tends to be annoyed at most things or people that she happens to find too stupid or useless.
If only you could see her and her permanent scowling face. If only.
[ ❇ ] B A C K G R O U N D
Suzy had been just an average, normal kid from London, England. Decent grades, had a couple friends, participated in extracurriculars at school—in essence, your typical Disney Channel background character in a slice of life high school show. But then she unluckily found herself the next victim of a sick creep, her lungs filled with nasty water from the Thames as she drowned, putting a permanent end to her enjoyment of the "thing" called life.
Or so she thought.
Coming back to her senses, Suzy found herself face-to-face with her dead body in the coroner's office. She attempted to communicate with the coroner, only to accidentally scare him shitless as the lights rapidly flickered and objects floated in the air. Unfortunately for Suzy, the corner had gossipy tongue, and news of this "paranormal" activity spread like wildfire. Soon enough, she found herself twisted into an urban legend: the murdered teenager who came back from the grave, haunting poor souls in anguish of her violent death.
In truth, Suzy just wants to be left alone. Yeah, she's dead. Yeah, she's a ghost. So what? She's already been through enough. If only the people on r/Paranormal would get the message.
[ ❇ ] R O O M N U M B E R
1-2-2, with an extra two 2s scrawled onto the sign. Suzy thought it was funny to reference the 20 20 20 20 ghost number, given the circumstances of her untimely death.
[ ❇ ] R O O M D E S C R I P T I O N
Suzy has a stereotypical room reminiscent of a cramped UK townhouse. The atmosphere is always cold, given that a ghost resides there. Although Suzy can't eat or drink, she likes to have a plate of biscuits (BISCUITS, not cookies or crackers, you cretin!) and a tea kettle nearby—perhaps a side-effect of feeling home-sick. Or, well, living-sick.
AND SO MAX'S TRIFECTA OF TERROR IS COMPLETE! *confetti rains down* Shoot though, does Max get like... special glasses to see ghosts? Or are there just multiple residents HE CANNOT SEE!? XD
Hello there,
I've been forum RPing for about 13 years; got started on lavendereyes.net, which was a Forgotten Realms/Drizzt Do'Urden fansite, before moving to the old roleplayerguild.com! I've also dabbled in RPing in a few MMO's like Champions Online, SWTOR, and WoW but forum adventures are definitely my preference. I like just about any kind of RP in high-casual and advanced, based on whatever mood I'm feeling (typically high-fantasy, sci-fi, and/or certain fandoms). I love writing and do think of RPing as a way to develop my character and scene writing skills, which basically means I'm always looking for realistic and fluid ways for my characters to learn, grow, and develop over the course of an adventure. I don't ship my characters but do occasionally allow them to fall into a relationship, if they are naturally guided in that direction.
You can take a look at some of my saved characters here, if it interests you.
I also have a deviantart page, though I hardly ever update it.
Thanks for reading! I'm always up for a good chat.
