Computer is broke AGAIN. Dog jumped on me when I had a glass of water in my hand, but some of it leaked in. Posts are going to be slow for the next week.
Thanks for the interest. First thing i definitely need to ask is how you'd like the RP to function:
1) Traditional RP where it's the unstoppable PC Team 2) The more self-contained "Group Storytelling" type RP. Where we all have our own stories that we are telling in the same universe but are mostly functioning autonimously. This allows you to better craft your own experiences without having to worry about other people derailing it. Also, would allow you to play multiple characters, as opposed to one.
Again, up to y'all, i'm happy to run it as either.
Kingdom Hearts has always annoyed me with how it's supposed to be a Final Fantasy/Disney crossover, yet the actual Final Fantasy stuff is mostly relegated to a few cameo's and kinda pointless/boring supporting characters, whilst the Disney stuff is mostly completely inconsequential to the story at large. It's its own original story that is chock full of all of the stuff that makes me hate modern Final Fantasy stuff. I want to love the franchise as a whole, i really do, but the only thing about it that keeps me interested is the stuff that is completely inconsequential to the story, and the things that i hate about it ((Mostly Orginization XIII and almost everything to do with them)) are the actual driving force of the plot. It wasn't so bad in the first game, because it was "All your favourite Disney villains have been gathered to help take over the world under a mysterious Final Fantasy-like, yet completely original villain." and, quite frankly, that is what i think they really should have stuck with.
Ok, so, rant over, i have been running this story with friends in a D&D 5e game. But being that, IRL, I am the Forever DM, I'd love to get a chance to actually play.
A few bits of info for how this will work and how it differs from the games: *Keeping the "Multiple Worlds" idea, where every Final Fantasy game and Disney movie are separated into their own completely self contained world. (Please note that Marvel & Star Wars will not have a dedicated world, but characters from it can and will show up in other worlds. Pretty much like how in Kingdom Hearts, they establish that Zack from FFVII is from Hercules world) *There are powerful forces that can strip you of your heart (It's your soul, but the game insists on calling it your Heart.) If this happens, then your consciousness creates a Heartless that will instinctively run around trying to find your heart, or replace it with someone elses, and your mortal remains become a Nobody. *Each player takes control of a Key Warrior, each Key Warrior has a Key Weapon, not necessarily a sword. Your Key weapon can be anything, but it is key themed. This Key weapon is designed to open and close specific doors around the multiverse in order to allow certain entities to travel and to prevent others. *Everyone starts off with a Destiny Link or "D-Link" with a canon Disney/Final Fantasy character of their choice. Your Key-Weapon will be usually be assosiated with this D-Linked individual. E.G. If you choose Merida from Brave, then you get a Key-Bow. If you choose Han Solo, you get a Key-Pistol. If you choose Freya from Final Fantasy IX, then you get a Key-Spear. If you choose Captain America, then you get a Key-Shield. *Your character can come from pretty much any world from these two behemoth franchises. Maybe you are a Bangaa Warrior from Ivalice, or a high prince suitor from Agrabah, a Moogle from World of Balance, or a Tangean from Buzz Lightyear of Star Command? *Your character's D-Link doesn't have to be with a character from their own world. People accidentally stumble through the cracks in the universe all the time, when they do, their heart will find another to latch onto to act as sort of a lighthouse to guide you. This is when your Key-weapon is forged and you have, unwittingly, become a Key-Warrior. I should also note that, because the person you are D-Linked to isn't aware of the link, you can link with a villain if you so choose, without having to play an evil character. *This will be an Episodic RP, with each episode taking place on a different world, where twists and turns can happen anywhere. E.G. One episode finds you in the Pirates of the Caribbean world, however, instead of Davey Jones and his Kraken to worry about, the terror of the high seas is Captain Hook and his pet monstrosity, Sin from FFX, building their army of Heartless. *The only Kingdom Hearts original character that will be in this is Xehanort and don't worry, I've given him an actually simple and straight forward story this time rather than the convoluted bipolar bullshit they have him do in the games.
Heartless: Nobody knows exactly how the Heartless came into being, but ever since they did, they have been attacking people. They don't kill them, they simply suck their heart out, turning that drained heart into a Heartless and leave them as an empty shell. Heartless are creatures of pure instinct, mindlessly attacking everything with a heart. When they extract a heart, an immense amount of energy is unleashed, with the Heartless absorbing it. The more they extract, the more powerful they become. They seem to infect worlds like a virus, travelling in the same cracks between worlds as Key-Warriors. Nobodies: After someone has had their heart drained, their physical body will slowly break down. If their will wasn't strong enough to keep themselves together, then they degrade into an amorphous form. These creatures are actually rather passive towards most people, only attacking when they feel threatened, but quite the opposite is true when they meet Heartless. The Amorphous Nobodies will relentlessly attack Heartless wherever they find them, in an attempt to retake their heart. If the will of the person who's heart was stolen is strong enough, then they may retain themselves, physical changes can happen and they will lose all of their memories of their life before their heart was stolen. Without a Heart, however, they are no longer tied to their world, allowing the vast powers of the universe to flow into them freely. A Nobody like this can be an immensely dangerous creature. Unversed: Although not technically related to the Heartless and Nobodies, their abilities are notably similar. The Unversed are created by the emotions from someones heart. If their heart is thrown into complete and total chaos, so utterly broken that they can no longer function, the Unversed spill from their hearts. The Unversed are creatures of purest chaos, wild emotions made manifest. They will attack everything around them, much like the heartless, but they will not try to extract hearts, instead opting to simply try and kill those around them, however they will follow the orders of whoever summoned them. Hearts that create Unversed are immensely powerful, meaning that Heartless are drawn to them. Whenever you encounter Unversed, it's not unusal to see the Unversed and Heartless fighting each other. Dreameaters: Very few people know that their dreams actually manifest themselves as creatures. Primarily, because these dreams are absorbed by the heart of the world and are used to keep it strong and in balance. When a world's heart is consumed by the Heartless, the Dreams have no-where to go and, in the time between the Heart of the World being consumed and the last beings on the world being hunted down and consumed by the Heartless, the Dreams of those people will manifest into the Space Between. These creatures, known as Dreameaters are separated into 2 different varieties: Spirits: Spirits are friendly, soft, lovable creatures made from the happiest dreams of people. They are drawn to those with the purest hearts and are loyal and fierce protectors. Usually bight and colourful in colour, their power can easily rival the Heartless. Nightmares: Created by the most bone-chilling nightmares to haunt the minds of good people, they are also drawn to those with the purest hearts, however Nightmares seek to destroy everything around them and are constantly seen clashing with Spirits. Unlike Spirits or Unversed, Nightmares cannot be controlled. That being said, they are notable for their extreme hatred for the Heartless that created them in the first place. They are usually very dark in their colour pallet.
@Psyker Landshark Pretty much, just watched Rogue One and wanted to play guys getting gunned down by the dozen. It's something different than just playing the typical unstoppable PC. And as you pointed out, it would take some pressure off the GM by having a dedicated guy to play the expendable allies. Essentially, you guys play as Luke and Wedge doing the Death Star run, while I play Red Leader, 2 and 3 getting horribly murdered by Vader and then we introduce Biggs who we gave a name to just so people could get attached to and then horrifically murder him in front of everyone just to make it more heartbreaking.
The other day I just came to the realisation that the characters I have had the most fun playing are not the epic heroes of yore, but the guys getting their shit kicked in over and over and over. Defeat is WAY more fun to right than victory.
@Richard Horthy No offense taken, man. It's your RP idea, i just had an idea for something a little different for these kinds of RP's, if you don't want it in, i ain't gonna push the matter. I may try again tomorrow, may not, either way, thanks for the consideration.
@Richard Horthy Ah, that's why i asked "Would i be allowed to design a small Space Battlegroup?" Essentially, instead of playing a Main Character, would you allow me to play several supporting characters? A number of one scene characters which get killed off in quick succession? A squad of supporting B1's that go down with the characters and get gunned down by Stormtroopers, the Fleet above that gets jumped by a Star Destroyer and ripped to pieces. The Fire Support team that get orbital bombarded into the dirt.
I made a character for the Support fleet. The idea is that i'd like to play the Orbital Support that draws agro from the Imperial Fleet and takes Rogue One levels of Shitkicking whilst the team does what they need to.
Battlegroup Angelus
Allegiance: Confederate Clique Background: Battlegroup Angelus was founded near the beginning of the Clone Wars, partaking in multiple campaigns across the outer rim. Angelus was actually one of the larger battle groups, armed with multiple Lucrehulk and Providence-classes. Notable campaigns that Angelus took part in were the Hypori campaign, the Rishi Campaign, as well as the unsuccessful attempt to hold the Umbaran Homeworld. A loss that Fleet-Master Mishra took personally. It was then that he started doubting his abilities, but managed to continue for the rest of the war. They took part in the Attack on Coruscant, where they lost a considerable amount of their main force, only managing to escape with their Flagship and Communications Frigate. As the fleet scattered following the Invisible Hand calling a full retreat, they managed to meet up with the remnants of a Geonosian Battlegroup and were ordered to take command, the last order they got from high command was for Redemption to take up a part in the fleet and to attack a Republic outpost that was holding Orritas captive. They successfully rescued him and then got the fateful news. All of their Battle-Droids tried to shut down, but thanks to RGR-RGR's interference, he assumed it was a Republic trick and countermanded the shut-down order. They managed to escape to regroup, but found no safe harbour.
Since then, they have been operating with Raiding tactics, only attacking sparcely defenced Imperial Outposts in order to capture supplies and parts to keep their droids and ships actually working. They have had some sparse contact with some larger Imperial forces, but these engagements never ended favourably.
However, with the new Alliance forming, Battlegroup Angelus offered their mighty guns to the cause and have once again readied themselves for full scale engagements. Although they are few in number, they have the spirit of rebellion backing them and a need to see the Separatists true vision come to a reality. Strength:
Weaknesses: Very outdated ships with relatively poor maintenance. No match in a standing fight with a modern Imperial battlegroup of equivalent size. The ships haven't seen Drydock since before the Cato Neimodia Campaign. Although a modest amount of troops, they are all running with Ad Hoc equipment, with very little uniformity, meaning that they are only really good for coordinated strikes and Hit-And-Run tactics. Drawn out battles and Regular warfare are out of the question in terms of success.
Captain Mishra Pask the Umbaran captain of Fist of Grievous. He was the previous Fleet-Master of Angelus and served under Grievous during the Hypori campaign, gaining a great respect for the ferocious Cyborg commander for his battlefield prowess. Mishra commanded the fleet until the end of the campaign. After the fall of the Separatists council, Mishra lost faith in his abilities and handed command of the fleet over to Orritas, focusing more on captaining his ship that he renamed in honour of his fallen ally. He regularly laments his unavailability to be at Utapau. Fleet-Master Orritas Maal A Skakoan from the Techno Union, Orritas has been the master of the fleet since the Rise of the Empire. He has proven his mettle on many occasions and is one of the most logically minded commanders left in the fleet. He was captured during the Cato Neimoidia Campaign, but was freed shortly before Knightfall. RGR-RGR: Lovingly refered to as "Roger" by the crew, he is a T-Series Tactical Droid that commands the Pallakus. Skrrt the Lesser: The one of the last of the Geonosian Brood Alpha's, he currently serves as the captain of Frr'Grak and it's Geonosian crew. He failed in the campaign to retake his homeworld and so has become obsessed with finding a Queen Egg, so that he may repopulate the now dying species.
Woops, doing some edits as i just realized i missed some parts.
@Assallya I just never really get on with D6 Systems. Every one i run tends to be way too basic and too easy to cheese. I recently converted Star Trek Decipher RPG into D100 (Pretty much Call of Cthulhu) and now the game runs WAY better. Also, i have never even heard of that system until right now and i don't feel comfortable running a system until i've played it for at least a couple of sessions.
As for comments about access to the books, i have PDF links to EVERY book that i can give out via PM.
@Sanity43217 That was legitimately the only thing Disciple brought to KOTOR2 was an interesting idea that some Younglings do just flunk out of the Jedi without ever ascending to Padawan.
