Yep! This can be slow-burn. I'm busy in the evening until Friday anyway.

Chalakon drifted through the busy afternoon market circle, eyeing jewelry and trinkets on display in the afternoon. Most of the craftsfolk he'd known as far back as he could remember. A few shops had been passed from master to apprentice, but nothing had really changed.

"Hello Chal, my pearl." The wizened jeweler waved Chal over with a smile, clasping hands with the young mer. Chal grinned and gently squeezed the old woman's hands, noting the faintest tremor.

"Good tides, Gran Cora. How's the family?"

"Oh, they're just fine. Aline is expecting, you know! Finally. I knew they were worried after the second year past the wedding..."

Chal listened politely, though this was a bit more information than he really wanted to hear. But most elders liked to chat, and Gran Cora had always been kind to him.

"Listen, pearl. I will be moving on very soon."

"Wait, what?" Chal was yanked harshly back to the moment, as if he'd gotten his tailfin caught in a ripcurrent. "You can't!"

"I can, and I will." The woman's voice was firm. "My hands can't work the metal like they used to. And with the grandchild on the way, things are changing. It is time." She reached up and patted Chal's cheek, as if he were a grandchild of hers already.

Then she plucked up a work from the display case and held it against Chal's skin. "Hmm. No. White coral washes out your tone." She set it aside and eyed the selections on the table."Perhaps... Ah! Hold still."

"But-"

"Hush now. And hold your hair."

"Yes, Gran."

Gran Cora wrapped a delicate, expertly woven choker around Chal's neck and tied the clasp. Then she swum up a bit to press a maternal kiss to his forehead. "Lovely. That's a gift from me, no trade needed."

Chal touched the choker and smiled, feeling burning tears threatening. "Thank you, Gran. It's beautiful. Um. Just remembered I've got a lunch date, so..."

"Ah, young love. Don't let me keep you, then. Off you go!" Gran waved and Chal rose up and up, leaving the market behind.

By the time he reached his favorite sandbar on the surface, Chal's eyes were sore from crying. He wasn't sure what it was even about. Changes like that hurt him at the core, some days.

An odd noise caught his attention, and on instinct he rolled and slipped off the bank and under the waves. When nothing dangerous approached, he swam toward the noise. He found two strange creatures on the beach. One gray and fat and loud. The other was almost human, but the ears were wrong, and- was that a tail? Since when did humans have those? He watched from beneath the water, as close as he dared.

Meanwhile, one of Harry's earbuds starts to fizzle with static.
Tim nodded quietly, adjusting his glasses as he peered at the ride. "I dunno, hon. Looks like an injury lawsuit waiting to happen." He looked to Roxy and smiled. "Roxy's assessment is correct."

"...You're right." Mara looked vaguely disappointed, and Devika giggled at the sight. Her mother had been more athletic in her youth. She was always the one to run after little Devika when she played outside. Of course, now there was gray creeping into her hair, and she couldn't move quite as fast. But her spirit hadn't lost its luster. "Fine. Next time."

They continued on through. Eventually another table caught Devika's eye. "Psychic readings? Hah! I love that kind of goofy stuff."
That does make sense, thank you.

Alright, I know what to post. Trying my best to get it written before I fall asleep.

EDIT: 1 hr later, it doesn't look like it's happening. I had a really, really bad situation today and it just kinda chewed me up and spit me out. -_- I apologize for being a shit partner from the get go.
:) thanks! Might go pink with the tail. Haven't decided.

Is Harry still wearing the headphones?

Also how modern is the surface world?
TFW you get out of work at 1 but have so much to do after you're not home until past 4...

and you take so long to write a simple profile it's almost midnight and there's no time to post. Anyway, here's Chal. Brand new, for this RP. I don't know why the eyebrows came out like that.

Name: Chalakon Ankorr
Gender: Genderfluid
Age: 25
Species: Aquapon
Looks: Warm-toned brown skin, about 5'8 on land and 5'9 underwater. Coral pink hair worn in flat braids, soft purple eyes. Wears brightly colored, loose clothing that is easy to move in. Lacks shoes. Has a tattoo on the upper arm.

Aquapon look human from a distance. Some of them are even born with eye and hair colors that would be indistinguishable from the average land-walker. However, the closer you examine, the more obvious the differences are. The pupil of the eye is wider, the skin is hairless and smooth. If an aquapon were to smile, the sharp teeth befitting of a meat-eating race would be proudly displayed.

Personality: Endlessly curious, incredibly talkative. Sometimes her mouth runs faster than her brain, which can lead to mishaps and many apologies. But his heart is clearly in the right place. Beneath the bubbly cheer, there is a sense of melancholy in them that only shows in glimpses. As if they're letting down a weight when no one is looking.

Powers/Ability
- light and electricity magic
- (not yet discovered) can mess with communications

@MartianAwesome! Then I'll give you the Doc. She's more complex as far as this kind of game anyway. How do you feel about character secrets as a DM? As a player, I don't like putting everything in the profile. It removes the chance for honest interaction among characters.
I'm back and in front of a computer:

Idea 1 is an older Nautolan woman who works as a medical doctor/counselor. When I say older, I'm talking like... maybe 40s or whatever equivalent that would be for her race. Intelligent, serene, soft spoken - between her age and her personality, perhaps her signing up for rebellion would be a surprise.

Idea 2 is your basic teenager signing up to fight. Short, brash, hungry, and really good with mechanics. Force sensitive, but not in a way they can actually put into direct use. Like, not going to be moving anything with it.

Between the two I am *extremely* partial to the first, just because you rarely see middle-aged people doing stuff. I saw bits and pieces of Andor (I gotta go back and watch from start to finish) and definitely liked it just for being refreshingly out of the norm.
Never played Fate system before but I'm totally willing to give this a try.
>_> my apologies. My life is... well, let's just say someone up there is laughing and its not me.
