Copy I misread. I thought both of them were Melromarc. Its ok, for now Fer will distrust both lol.
and just for your FYI if Rivia followed Fer he is walking out of the castle.
That is unless you dont want us to split up. Especially because Auriel will be out of contact for a while. I can write that Fer decided to visit the training yard instead or something.
On his way out, Fer’s recognizance eyes did not fail to notice the innocent looking young girl in red hair that moved past him towards his Sword counter part. Even that childish visage was not enough to fully hide the power that was hidden under that childish face. It did not escape his notice that Rin seemed to be at the very least acquainted with them as she did not oppose their cleaning of Cole. Perhaps it was more than knowing each other.
Fer only offers the Bow Hero a grunt in derision at her attempt to bait him. It was in his benefit, in the whole world’s benefit that Matsunaga be able to live up to that claim. After all, none of those summoned would be able to go back to their old lives unless the waves were stopped. Regardless of what he wanted, the young shield hero could not bring himself to wish her ill. A foul taste began to register in his mouth as he walked but he decided spitting in the floor again was much too crude.
Rin was not entirely wrong. She was meant to be a better hunter than he. Being one who had used a bow and arrow in his previous life, Fer knew that if somebody with enough aptitude was able to wield such a simple looking weapon, it would be quite deadly. Add magic in to the mix and the long range lethality of the Bow could be compounded.
Magic. There in lay the possibility of making him if not more offensive at least a better defensive or support asset. The way that the song had made him sluggish and disoriented made him wonder if such spells could be acquired by anyone. There must be a reason why each of the candidates were chosen to wield their specific legendary weapons. Fer did not know why he had been selected to wear the Shield. Perhaps it was his natural predisposition to protect. Or perhaps it was his desire to preserve life.
Whatever the case, he was stuck with the Shield so he should do the best he could. The green light in his bracer gem gleamed as if in objection. “I did not mean that you are a burden or less than those other weapons. But you have to admit, you have been keeping many secrets from me. I need to learn how to use you best.” He sighed deeply. It was a good thing that Rivia and Auriel were melee type fighters.
Speaking of fighters , that Edusa girl had introduced herself as one to Cole. Both seemed to share the same last name as the boy king. Fer’s eyes narrowed. He was sure that opportune group assignment was not all chance. From what he had heard, Melromarc was a matriarchy first and foremost. Were the sisters somehow trying to make a move for the throne or in some way undermine their male relative? Fer sighed again. Politics were a pain in the ass. It was probably better if he just concentrated on getting stronger to defeat the waves and go home. The politics of his homeland were a bit less complicated.
However, it worried him that Cole was so easily entangled by their smiles. Was it because they were cute little girls? Was his blonde companion thinking with his groin rather than with the one on his shoulders? No, the Sword hero could not be that simple and shallow could he? Fer shrugged to himself as his armored boots kept him moving forward. That was all he could do. Move forward and do his best. Cole would do what he would but the Shield hero had promised he would follow and protect him. That would be enough for now.
By this time, the soft steps of the wolf girl caught up to him in one of the long corridors of the castle that led out. Her confused voice snapped him out of his musings. His eyes went wide in surprise as it took him a second to recognize who was talking to him when he turned after his sleeve was pulled. “Oh….Rivia..” He said surprised. Shit, he had forgotten about her and Auriel in his irritation. He looked back towards the great hall. Should he go back and talk to Auriel? No, it was probably best somebody keep and eye on Cole and the Malromarc girls. Hearing the wolf girl’s question his face contorted.
His right hand scratched the side of his head. “Ah, how to explain.” The young shield wondered. It was plainly obvious that the wolf girl may not grasp the finer points of politics. He was having trouble following it all himself. He motioned Rivia to walk with him with his head. “We the Heroes are supposed to protect the world from the waves I am sure you know. The problem is that we are not of this world and so start off really weak. We just managed to barely bring down a bandit queen named Rayla Winters. That is why the king had thrown that celebration.”
Fer stared ahead as if re telling the story to him more than answering Rivia’s question. He continued in an absent voice. “Apparently, the Bow hero thought we should be practicing and getting stronger rather than going to parties. I cant say she is wrong. I have been having that same thought. The problem is I don’t know much about how to make my Shield stronger and we don’t have that much time left. So I decided to try and study some magic and learn more about how my Shield works.”
He turned his brown eyes to her again. It was strange that such a cute looking wolf girl even existed but that was also a very capable fighter. He offered her a kind smile with some apologetic hints written in there. “You know, I did promise you a spar and after having endured my dancing I think you more than earned it. Would you like to help me get stronger?” The Shield sounded sincere. He looked in the direction of a passing guard. “But not here, I don’t like the idea of having the Bow hero or any of her underlings barging in.” He also did not like the idea of the king or those two girls keeping tabs on them. “I know of a place you can come if you want.” He offered not wanting to assume that Rivia would follow him blindly.
If she accepted, the place he would take her was the very same place that he and Cole had first learned to battle the orange balloon monsters. It was out of the way but not secluded enough that any whisperings of the Shield conducting any clandestine operations could be started. As he approached the exit gates he could not help but look back towards the castle. Its fancy façade hid many secrets and probably dark ones at that. He hoped that Cole would be ok. Not safety wise but more mentally. The blonde guy was probably home sick and the honey like smiles of those two sisters were sure to draw him in. Another sigh escaped the Shield’s lips as his booted feet moved him forward.
copy on the explanation. Obviously what Cole thinks may not be fully evident to Fer until he actually directly tells him. Regarding the party, I could have sworn that Auriel swore her allegiance to all the Heroes unless she swore her allegiance to the first shield. Poor Cole thinking the others would leave him.
As for the magic, I think it would be something that Fer would look into since he feels he is not doing much. I will work witht he concentp of debuffing and shielding and see what I can come up with. when the waves come he will have lots of monster remains to absorb into his shield lol.
If Rivia does not post I will post on sunday or something.
Lol dont know why Cole thinks Fer does not take him (Cole) Seriously. I do believe Fer just told Cole that he believes Cole to be the stronger of the Heroes lol. Also, What do they mean "The Shield Hero's party"? Are they lumping poor Rivia and Auriel as Fer's Followers? lol I hope Cole lets them know that all of them are actually following Cole lol.
Question, this is probably way in the future but, is it possible one of the Shields can suck in magic energy? Or can one of the shields absorb kinetic energy and then release it very much like Black Panther's armor?
Lastly, I know I have probably asked this before but can Fer learn spells? He has an affinity for Wind magic. If so, how does he go about it?
Also, I hope this goes without saying but the parts in Italics are inside his head. All this drama lol. I wonder if I have unlocked the demon shield lol.
Dang it Fer really wanted to dance with Auriel lol.
Perhaps it was the fact that he was still disoriented from the blinding light and the de buffing spell, or perhaps it had been the spell that had been place on Rin by her mage, whatever the case, Fer had felt as if head rushed head long into a solid mountain. He felt the impact on his shoulder and his forearm and almost bit his lip as the edge of the shield came up to meet his face. He growled at his own pathethic showing as much as the Bow Hero’s dirty mouth.
“What the fuck was her issue?” The Shield wondered as he was juggled about as if he was nothing more than an after thought. Or perhaps he was. His eyes narrowed. This crazy bitch somehow she was the voice of reason. Who in their right mind would believe that this was any sort of way to talk to anybody. If she had a grievance then she should present it properly. And where does she get off making it seem like Cole and his party had just lazed about doing nothing.
The young Shield Hero had never really struck a woman but the way that Matsunaga was behaving, she was no lady. Fer tightened his fist. He would gladly go to town on this crazy woman until his knuckles were bloody. He felt a slight tinge of anger against Cole too. Why was he cowering before this bellowing cow? “Cole, you do not have to explain yourself to this crazy person. Waltzing in here and throwing out accusations and behaving like some sort of toddler going off on a tantrum.”
He then turned to Rin. “If you are complaining that we are not worthy of receiving a dinner after the capture of Rayla Winters, you may be right. But don’t come bitching to us that nobody even cared to invite you. If you want to be a loner so bad then get the fuck out. We owe you no explanation.” He then spit at her feet, a bit of blood with it.
From the corner of his eyes he saw Rivia run into some trouble with flying dishes and furniture. Though the hero did not know much about their new companion, he knew that it would take more than silverware to stop the wolf girl. “Scratch their eyes out.” Thought the Shield hero. An anger rose inside his being. His heart began to burn and the usual green glow of his gem turned a slightly red color.
Suddenly Auriel’s commanding voice chastised them like fighting children and Fer felt a bit of shame rush to his face. The shame only grew when he realized that he found the angelic warrior very attractive as she displayed her own authority and tried to talk some sense into all of them. What she said was true. Only her could truly say that she had faced down monsters. The shield hero took a few calming breaths. Perhaps hearing Rin call him useless and pointing out that he may not be a real asset to the party added to his own inner turmoil and made him explode. He offered Auriel an apologetic smile.
Obviously accustomed to court and its politics, the angelic companion addressed the king, probably to mediate. Fer heard Rin’s annoying voice again spouting some nonsense about enjoying the feast. He felt his blood boil again. “Was this girl stupid or something?” Her logic was twisted and seemed quite childish. He would have swung at her again but withheld his hand trying to not cause anymore shame to Cole or Auriel.
Politics will be politics and he saw that the King waned to keep his nose clean. Somehow, Fer knew that if it had been him or Rivia who had started the altercation the mood would be much different. His tanned face turned a dark shade of red as this boy king set himself to chastising Auriel. The Shield Hero shot daggers at the fair faced ruler. The gleam of his gem reddened again and the air around him became static with suppressed anger. “Especially the servant of the Shield hero”. Those words reverberated through his soul. “This fucking bastard! Such a push over that he will grovel to a wordy foul mouthed bitch!” He wringed his hands but controlled himself.
Fer pulled back. A dark smile on his face as he turned to Rin. “I hope that your bow is as good as your mouth is at spouting nonsense. If it is, then there will be no need of any other Hero to stop the waves. If it isn’t, then I guess we will be rid of that very same mouth.” He turned to the King. Insolence written in the fake smile he gave the boy. Fer bowed low. “As you has state O Great King. My time would be better spent training and staying out of the way of true heroes. I retire to that purpose.”
Next he turned to Cole. “I will always be by your side Cole no matter what. My loyalty is not to this realm, or kingdom or other Heroes. You are better than this loud mouthed Bow Hero can ever hope to be. Don’t let her tell you otherwise.” Giving Rin a contemptuous smile he walked out stopping by Auriel. “My apologies Auriel. Perhaps you should give Cole your counsel. He will need you.” He continued on his way out and called out to Rivia “Leave them alone Rivia. I am sure they put up with much following that around.” The young Hero tossed his head towards the Bow.
Many eyes followed him with disgust. Some even murmured about his base behavior. Fer did not care. He knew these same people would come begging him for help when the Waves would turn up. His steps echoed in the hall as he passed trough the great doors on his way out.
I will try to post either today or on Wednesday. Drama drama drama. How dare the bow bitch call out my sweet Rivia and Fer is not gonna take kindly to the King talking down to her either lol.
River port was blessed with an Azure type ocean that sparkled in the morning light. The waves were calm, a necessary and welcome feature to any port. Probably the barrier reefs guarded the shore from the strongest of the waves making the area closes to land perfect swimming and diving spots. No doubt, at this very moment Rue, the princess and others from her party were enjoying the sun and salty air. Bowyn had decided to forego the slime day evolution, though if this was to spend more time with the winter fairy lass or to avoid Arn was not too sure.
During the awkward breakfast, the soldier dwarf had stolen a glance or two but decided that probably meeting her eyes would be uncomfortable for both. Her more than anything as she was trying to repair her relationship with her village buddy. The young medic gripped the wooden mallet and choked on the handle as if trying to use it for support.
The wooden mallet felt good in his hand. Every dwarf had molded their hands to both weapons and tankards. Though Arn often bypassed and tried to avoid any sort of violent encounter with sentient and intelligent beings, slime hunting would not be against his personal code of ethics. The gelatinous goo was little more than slug. Besides, there were many emotions that the dwarf needed to let loose. As luck would have it, these poor oozing practice dummies would be recipients of those pent up frustrations.
He smirked as he saw the curly haired elf spring forth with gusto. A few people to his left was the unmistakable form of the lizard brute, though the sharp eyes that beheld the mass of slimes move towards them betrayed that behind the brutish façade, Kharne was any thing but. The demi human who had introduced himself as Ismael seemed to be on friendly terms with the big dragon kin. This only made Arn feel more fired up. Following after Kaleb, though in a more structured pace, he picked out his first target.
The tangerine colored ooze boinged towards him with no regards or care. Arn swung with a back hand motion, allowing the shaft to slide gaining range as the heavy head followed the path of motion. The dwarf missed! The mallet head was an inch too short to impact the slime. The medic’s eyes went wide as he side stepped and tripped. Analyzing his mistake the soldier figured his muscle memory had expected a heavier weapon not the light wood of the mallet. Feeling embarrassed at his rookie mistake he did not even look around though from his peripheral he could see the almost graceful motions of the attacking draconic mercenary.
Grunting low in his throat he charged after the tangerine slime, as if wanting revenge. This time, he jumped slightly and came down on the unsuspecting ooze with abandon. The hammer easily broke through the surface tension of the slime’s outer body and the slime exploded in all directions. There was a sense of accomplishment and release as the hammer plowed into the sand. The young soldier breathed out and a felt a sudden rush through his body. He enjoyed combat, and the din of battle but he often repressed it.
He may not be the blood son of Thur Hammer hand but he still bore the same ability and enjoyment of battle. Or was it because he was the son of the King of Ironhold and through his veins ran the royal delight in war? Arn decided not to dwell too much on this philosophical inquiry and instead allowed himself to enjoy swinging this mallet around. There was a familiarity with the weapon that could be plainly seen by any skilled in combat.
His strikes and poses betrayed his training. Low stances, efficient movements, and strong weapon control allowed him to efficiently claim slime after slime. More than once his path crossed that of the curly elf. Probably because the self assured man was weaving and waving without a seemingly rhyme or reason. Arn smirked as he saw that the other man’s wild swings had carry the evidence of his kills on his face and body.
The dwarf himself was methodical in his direction of hunting and dispatching of the slimes. He was glad that he was using the mallet provided instead of his own mace or weapons. Slime clean up was tedious work. Due to the acidic nature of the slimes, if not cleaned properly, armor and weapons would rust. Also, being made of bodily fluids, a rancid smell would also develop. Using the entire length of the wooden shaft, which was meant fore regular sized humans, it allowed Arn to keep the splatter to a minimum.
Once, when Arn was within ear shot, he called after Kaleb. “Make sure to wipe off the slime every now and then. If allowed to stay too long, it may cause a rash.” The acidic properties were probably not as strong on newly formed slimes such as these which were basically new born babes, but it would still cause discomfort. Something caught the dwarf’s eye. Was that fire on the curly elve’s mallet? He blinked and rubbed his eyes.
No, others had seen it too and were stopping their hunting activities to stare. Kaleb tried to explain it away but the tone of his voice did not even seem like he was sure of that explanation. An inquisitive look formed on the young medic’s face but when a slime bumped into him he decided to perhaps address that later.
Instead, he walked close to Kaleb. “If you don’t mind, I will take care of any slime getting too close to you and you can take care of the ones down range. These slimes should not be dangerous but we would not want one to bump into you and make you loose an arrow unto an unsuspecting participant.” If anybody truly believed Arn to be a self absorbed and praise seeking bastard, then his offer would almost appear to be an excuse to show up the curly headed elf.
Hope that post was worth the wait. I have actually been listening to GOT books. He captures simple things that makes the world seem more real not just grand battles etc. I like how he even describes the dishes and smells and such. I am a descriptive person myself. I hope that comes out in my posts. if not let me know. lol. Hope you are having good luck in your studies. Wishing you the best.
