Ashford turns at the exit to the danger room complex as he hears Aya’s call. Pierce is still close by and looks impatient as Malcolm stops. He crosses his arms, ignoring the request for privacy though Ashford waves him off. “Go ahead and let our guests in, I’ll be there shortly.” He says casually before turning his attention back to Aya. “Aya, I’m afraid I’m on a bit of a deadline at the moment,” He says as Pierce leaves, “But tell me what’s on your mind.”

Kaylee Everose & Coleman St John

Cole accepted the coffee cup and relaxed back, exhaling slightly and getting a scent of the fresh aroma. Kaylee was a stickler for good coffee, same as him. He took a sip and let his annoyance with Pierce subside before he glanced back at her. She wanted answers, he knew it was coming and picking back up where he had intended to give her the truth was as natural a starting point as any. He took another sip. “Let’s do this,” He said finally, putting the cup down. “You’re gonna ask me a question and then I’m gonna ask you one and we’re gonna be completely honest with each other.”

Inwardly Kaylee agrees, outwardly she looks like she is giving it more consideration that she actually did. Her eyes roam over Cole's face as she sucks her teeth and with a small soft click she nods once. "Alright. Did you make it to Nocture before or after the fire?"

"Before." Cole replied nearly as soon as she was finished asking. "How long have you known that Una is not a mutant?" He found himself unexpectedly speaking with a more pointed tone as the words came out and something about it felt oddly familiar, like it wasn't the first time they had the conversation.

Startled Kaylee's eyes widened. She shook her head. "Uná is a mutant. She exhibits all the markers. Her mutant level might be in question but not the fact is that she is just that a mutant. I don't know what else she could be. So, the answer to your question is never. Why would you say she wouldn't be?"

"Call it intuition," Cole replied, unphased. "Is that gonna be your question?"

Kaylee thought about that for a moment. Uná was a small part of the reason she was here. She should be the whole reason Kaylee was here but Kaylee wanted some more personal answers. "I don't like the lack of transparency in that answer so I may come back to it later. If you were there before the fire then you might have seen how it started, can you tell me how it happened?"

"Because I started it."

Now that i have some time, I wanted to thank you for your nice note above. It was never my design to take on this game and you can ask anyone that I have played with on here, that I am particularly picky with how I invest my time. For those reading this that are completely new, I was asked to join the first chapter of this game using a particular character and it was only as a side for the overall plot of the story. One thing led to another, Alm took the game, people came and went and then she got covered up with real life stuff as well, it happens.

At the start of last week, I never had any intentions of keeping this going, but the persistence of the players prevented me from letting it continue to flounder. I could sense opportunity and I had never seen quite such a devoted player base as New Era managed to carry. As transient as this hobby is known for being, this game is a definite exception to the rule. With that in mind, I decided it would be a worthwhile investment. I'm glad you have found time again to come back and write with us. As you can see, I tend to look at games a little bit differently, but when I decide to take on something, then it's all-in.

That being said, your character is approved. My inquiry about blood manipulation as a mutant power was simply that, an inquiry. I was genuinely curious as to what exactly that ability entailed and I wanted there to be some information there for other players to reference as well. I doubt I'll have any need to be concerned with abuse.

Until recently you were just a run of the mill kid, or maybe you were a troubled teen, or even perhaps a college age young adult just trying to live your life, but not anymore. Now you're something else...something different; you are gifted.

This story will be set in the X-Men fandom where you will take on your own unique characters. My intention is to set this RP in a world where mutants are still relatively unknown to the masses, where the "gifted" are feared and looked down upon by society, and where it would be detrimental for the public to find out the identities of those that are known about. The idea is this: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters has been a haven for mutants for a decade now, but one school can only do so much in a world where there are new mutants popping up all the time. So, Charles Xavier has entrusted one of his good friends, Malcolm Ashford, to open a new school to help ensure more mutants find the help they need. We will be the first class of students at the Ashford Institute for the Gifted, and will live the lives of mutants in a world made for humans. We together will learn how to control our gifts, find out who we truly are, make friends (and enemies) along the way, and train to one day join the ranks of the X-Men.

This RP encourages building relationships between characters, both romantic and platonic. At its heart this game is going to be about character development far more than combat and stuff like that (though there definitely will be some action). Mature themes may be explored, and things like sex may come up from time to time (within reason...explicit stuff should fade to black or be handled in PMs).

This is the official OOC for this RP; a place for us to get to know each other and discuss the game and our characters. Feel free to contact me for any questions or additional info you would like me to provide.

At this time we will not be accepting Avalonian Characters.

The New Beginning

Continued from X-Men: The New Era, 1 & 2

You find yourself entering the Danger Room with other members of the student body, some familiar and some new faces. Perhaps you were summoned for the events that transpired at Avalon and Nocturne or maybe you just found your way here by chance. It's quiet and the room is inactive, dim, and to your surprise, there is no need for cleaning. The composite floor is as spotless as ever; clean ready for action. However there is an unsettling feeling as you continue inside. Your instincts tell you something is off and if you're a seasoned student, the subtlety of some change is evident, but you can't quite put your finger on it. Dean Ashford and Professor Pierce.

Neither the Dean nor the AD show much emotion. Both are always hard to read. Pierce stands with arms cross wearing his regular scowl while Ashford seems more relaxed, almost inviting waiting for your small group to assemble.

“Good afternoon everyone,” Malcolm began, seeing the assembly gathered in the danger room. He steps forward as he acknowledges everyone, while Pierce remains behind with arms crossed. The Dean’s tone is relaxed with his hands tucked in the pockets of his sportcoat, though it appears he is wearing gloves. “I apologize for the crude nature of my summons, sometimes, even within our own small community here, there is a need for a gentle subterfuge.” He motions slowly with one hand calmly around the room revealing that he is indeed wearing what appear to be tight-fitting, leather riding gloves. “As you can see, the Danger Room does not need cleaning.” He tucks his hand back in his coat, scanning the faces of those in the large room, not focusing on anyone in particular. “I think some of you know what I brought you here to address, while I also see some new faces, so welcome to you as well, our topic already concerns you more than you have even begun to realize.”

Ashford begins to pace slowly as he speaks, as if giving a lecture, he’s a natural speaker, clearly contemplating the flow of his words, but delivering them with an air confidence that is easy to follow. “Last night, many of you here were involved in an incident outside the school grounds, downtown with an individual and an anomaly that you most likely did not understand at the time, and I assume, for some of you, that you still do not after the amount of copious amount of consumption you were involved with,” He gives a knowing, small smirk. “I want you to know, because of my intimate connections with LAPD, the City Council and others, these events have already been put to rest permanently, however...” He stops in his movement and looks only slightly harder at the students, still not as critically as Pierce, but paternally, as if he’s surprised and disappointed. It’s hard to tell for sure.

“What I want you to take away from this,” He continues. “Is that we are not in a vacuum here.” He continues and begins pacing once more. Pierce is as firm as a statue in the background. “There are forces at work here, even within this city, that are already plotting, seething and redoubling their efforts to put a halt to what we have built- I will not allow that to happen.” He clenches his fist by his side at the proclamation. “However, I need your help in this work,” He again stops in his walk to turn and face the gathering directly, “I don’t feel that I need to shame you for your actions, most of you have already been through quite a lot before you even arrived here.” He glances back over his shoulder, “Though I believe AD Pierce may have had some rather extensive designs for your punishment, I overruled him.”

Pierce snorted and gave a slight smirk of amusement.

“Mutant-kind is still only a small fraction of Earth’s population,” He looks down briefly and touches his chin for a moment in consideration. “A percent of a percent.” He crosses his arms in thought and you can see the room subtly react, like the texture of the floor shifting with his thoughts. “I envy you in some ways. Everything is new to your eyes… If you take nothing else away from this small meeting, I want you to consider WHY are you here?”

He looks at Daniella “Is it for protection?”

“Is it for confirmation of your beliefs?” He looks towards Nik.

“Perhaps self-preservation?” His eyes move towards Aya.

“Or is it something else?” He looks over Cleo, Ronnie and the others.

“I would say that if you are not happy with your own answer,” He continues. “Then you truly need to question whether or not you want to be here and what this opportunity represents as I can assure you that those you encountered last night understand it. The politicians that wish to segregate mutants understand it, the technocrats that see only profit by your enslavement understand it, other mutants seeking their own aggrandizement understand it- that in the history of this planet, there has never been a time like this.”

His casual steps bring him back to the exact place where he started. “Don’t squander your opportunity.”

Ashford calmly looks over his shoulder at Pierce once more, “Is there anything you’d like to add?” A question that only brings forth a shake of the head from the younger professor. The Dean looks back at the group, hands returning to pockets. “Then that is all I have for you.” The precise finality of his tone indicating their will be no questions. “If you will excuse us now, Professor Pierce and I have another matter of business which requires our attention, enjoy the rest of your weekend and I will hopefully see all of you next week.”

And with that Ashford and Pierce leave the Danger Room leaving you and your fellow students to your thoughts.
Small bump for the thread and casual skip notice, working on the next one currently.

Joel gave a small shrug when Elise insisted on paying for the repair when an idea hit him. “How about a piece of art then?” He motioned with his hand, “Something for the shop?” He felt his arm being pulled and turned to see Siobhan wearing a broad grin with which he was very familiar. Simultaneously, Elise seemed to be catching Ryan mid-glance at her backside. The party was getting into full swing as he was shuffled over to meet the newcomers, Paige and Milo, both of whom he had heard a multitude of stories, in particular that Milo was a metalworker, which interested him. He fully expected a return on his vice-like grip as he greeted Milo with a handshake. “Glad you could make it to our little soiree here.” Glancing down to see that they had both been awarded a drink from the War Chest. When he heard the conversation turning towards Vika, he could only roll his eyes and give a shake of the head hoping the topic would change to something more interesting than everyone’s apparent turn on the community bicycle. Siobhan had indeed saved him from a lot of potential trouble.

Seeing Joel’s eyeroll garnered and a certain level of approval from Paige. There had to be other subjects more worthwhile to discuss. She returned his handshake more firmly than he looked like he expected with a slight smirk of fiery confidence. He was definitely the type for Siobhan and she got a good vibe from the natural interaction between the two of them- both obliviously weird and maybe a little offbeat, but in a good way. She took a drink realizing it had been a long while since she’d had a beer from a cooler. As Ryan spoke to Milo, her mind was working out why he seemed so familiar until the memory finally called up an image she’d seen a few weeks back. “You’re the one that won that cooking contest, right?” She said remembering some story from Siobhan about Joel being a guest judge and a wild party afterwards. “I remember seeing it in the paper.” Her eyes narrowed slightly and she nodded her head a bit in affirmation of the memory.

Joel’s glance drifted towards Ryan as he finished off another drink. “Back to Japan, huh?” He said. “Just came back from there not that long ago.” He chuckled a little as Elise introduced herself again. “Yeah, you crashed the shit outta this party.” He teased and opened the War Chest with his foot to retrieve another beer. “Damn freeloader.”

Paige shook her head a little at Joel’s picking at Elise. He was exactly as described by Siobahn. She had started to introduce herself and Milo before the girl seemed to have to take an important phone call before returning. “Everything alright?” She asked with an eyebrow slightly raised. “I’m Paige by the way,”
