Been a minute, everything good in here?
Kayliss Lambert

There had very nearly been a friendly fire incident involving a jumpy archer after Kayliss had gotten her disguise on. Fortunately, she'd announced her presence before leaving the bushes and gotten away without getting shot. With that bit of idiotic comedy done with, Kayliss moved on to her part of the mission: finding the necromancer behind all of this and eliminating him.

She'd kept in cover while approaching the camp, wanting to determine the state of the enemy before finalizing her approach. Even in a disguise, it wasn't guaranteed she'd be able to simply walk into the camp without pass codes or identification. And claiming to be the last survivor of an ambush would only alert the enemy to the rest of the Lions approaching soon. However, it seemed her preparation was for naught. No guards at the entrance. How...curious. Even the most incompetent bandit assigned guards at night. A deliberate trap? Perhaps. Regardless, Kayliss stuck with a stealthy approach as she entered, creeping behind cover and making sure there were none watching as she stalked into the camp.

Her caution absolutely hadn't paid off in the case. The camp was completely empty. And ransacked. Had another troop beaten them here? It couldn't have been another Veltan force. They would have known. The Ithillins, perhaps? Still, there was nothing else here to tell for the moment without taking up valuable time. At the very least, she had to find the necromancer and confirm their death. A glance around the camp showed that the only possible way forward was into the outcropping, where some sort of cave or tomb awaited. With practiced familiarity, Kayliss inspected the entranceway for traps before proceeding onward, one dagger already unsheathed and hidden within the billowing sleeve of her cultist robe.
Shinozaki Yurie

Kaede, huh? God damn, why did her bento have to be so delicious-looking? It made her choices here that much harder. Melon bread would tide her over until class let out, but it wasn't an actual meal. The fried chicken, veggie, and onigiri bento, on the other hand...god damn it. She was gonna regret this in the future whenever this chick wanted something, Yurie just knew it.

"Sure, fine, if you say so." Yurie made a reluctant show of taking the bento, lifting a bite of fried chicken to her mouth with the provided chopsticks. Fuck, it was as good as it looked. "Compliments to the cook, because this's really good." She murmured in between bites before listening to the ongoing conversation.

That's what this kouhai came in here for? Just to verify a rumor? Giving Oda the benefit of the doubt? What a fair and high-minded person they had on their hands here. Yurie tried to not look too unimpressed, considering she was still getting free food from her. Still, if this was gonna let her rag on the person who actually bought the last three curry buns, she was taking it.

"Oh, don't worry about all that." She waved her right hand about casually, her left taking one of the onigiri from the box. "Little prick that bought those three also bought the last three. I was right in line behind him. Serves him right, really. Oughta give Oda a medal for enforcing karma today."

Ranbu no Izayoi

"Rend!" She screamed on instinct as her blade bit into one of the smaller stragglers. "Kill!" Izayoi drove it all the way through the Blightbeast's chest before savagely ripping it back out as she continued her charge, Eliane still at her side. Judging by the sound of footsteps behind them, it seemed Neve had recovered and caught up as well. Fine by her. The others were too busy with their own battles to keep the healer guarded well enough anyway.

Unfortunately, the Aero spell that followed serve to only irritate the apparent leader of the pack. And now it was making a beeline straight for them. Unfortunate. Neither herself nor Eliane were exactly sturdy enough to take such an attack head-on. Well. Most of her finishing attacks were designed to decimate such a head-on charge. But Izayoi knew for a fact that the majority of those were too much for her body to handle after years without serious practice. The only one she could reliably perform was...

___

"Listen well if you want to live, girl." Her master stared down at her with his typical unfeeling stare, the relic blade he held glinting in the desert sun. "I will show you this technique but once. If you move, you will die." The man sheathed his blade, took up his stance, and surged forward.
___

"Massacre the others. I will blunt the large one's attack." She murmured aside to Eliane before stepping forward.

Izayoi sheathed her blade, took up the same iaijutsu stance she'd known for over twenty years, and met the beast in a head-on charge.

"Shin-Zantetsuken!"

___

"It is a delicate dance." He explained after he finished performing the technique, the teenage girl's eyes wide at how close she'd come to death. "The stutter-step in the midst of the charge accelerates your first slash. This creates the vortex and fuels your spin for the second strike. Now," The man drawled lazily as he held his sword in a defensive stance, his gaze glinting with amusement.

"Show me if you can meet my expectations."

___

At the very least, she hadn't forgotten how to perform the first of the execution techniques she'd been taught. Her timing was perfect, the stutter-step on her draw accelerating her charge for that brief, crucial moment. Izayoi's blade was a blur as she performed her limit break, the first slash outright carving off the arm of the large Blightbeast as it tried to grab her out of her counter-charge. She whirled around, the sheer force and speed of her slash forming a vortex that drew the Blightbeast in even closer and took it off-balance, and then she struck once more. The second slash, empowered as it was, rent a colossal gash through its chest, sending it crashing to the dirt as blood and guts spilled from the wound.

Meanwhile, Izayoi came to a stop, panting slightly from the exertion of her technique as she tried to collect herself. The strike had still been without error, but it took more out of her than she'd expected. Hopefully, Eliane and Neve would be able to pick up her slack while she caught her breath for a slight moment.
Renar Hagen

It was almost unfair how strong someone could be while being so evidently coddled. The bladework he could handle. Just barely, but it wasn't what took him out of the fight. The spellwork accompanying it was perfect, grinding Renar down until Lilia's blade found purchase right next to his throat.

"So be it. Victory is yours." Renar casually held his hands up, dropping his staff. "Well played. I've been sorely needing experience against both spellcasters and fighters just better than myself in general. We all have been, really. I don't suppose you'd care to repeat this with us for the duration of the time you're here at the keep, Lady Lilia? The practice ought to do you good as well, especially if we improve quickly enough."

Theodoric Branden Marlon

"It's only been one night thus far. Surely it can't have been that onerous." Doric replied to Sherry with only mild surprise. "Of course the archbishop isn't going to take a single day's worth of complaints into consideration, considering all those that have come through the academy before. At least give him a chance, would you? I'll not disagree about the current situation, though."

Indeed, it was absolutely absurd that the professor still hadn't arrived yet after nearly forty minutes. Fortunately for Theodoric, Andrion finally decided to reappear, tossing him a wrapped package. Doric deftly caught it in one hand with a raised eyebrow, unwrapping it to reveal a rather appetizing sandwich. It was even hot. Well, then. Sharing his wine last night was paying dividends already.

"Much appreciated." Doric smiled back, taking a bite. Hm. Quite good. Ordinarily, he'd be far more reserved about the entire situation, fearing losing face with their new professor on the first day. But at this point? Whoever it was had far bigger concerns that that. So he'd enjoy the sandwich, and rewrap it and tuck it away should they actually bother to show up. He shrugged back at Roland's comment, swallowing his bite before speaking. "He's really quite easy to get along with so far. Evidently, I was rather fortunate in that regard." Again, free alcohol helped.

"Give the other to...Lapis, was it? Offer Parth anything free, and she'll just take advantage of your generosity in the future." He chortled, giving Parthenia a teasing grin. It wasn't as if what he'd said was untrue, after all.

Was desperately hoping someone would get the BN bug from Legacy Collection and put this type of RP up so I didn't have to do it myself. Put me in, coach.

Considering the wide variety of canon Navis, I assume we can use most of them outside of the unreasonable/main character ones?
Renar Hagen

Fast. Almost too fast. Almost. The fact that he still had room to react surprised Renar more than the actual sequence of attacks, but he shoved his mild disappointment aside as he processed his next few moves in sequence. The ice limited his options severely, and combined with an attack at his ankles, it was a good tactic to hamper his mobility. The lack of lethal intent, even in training, was an expectation that fell short, though.

Renar slammed his quarterstaff down into the ground, simultaneously blocking Lilia's ankle sweep while cracking the ice at his feet. Her follow-up move was much more in line with what he'd been expecting. She didn't relent, and it was damn near impossible for him to evade completely at this range and with his available options. Good. Very good. This was more in line with what he'd been looking for. A desperate twist of his waist saved Renar from the stab, but the wind magic running along the blade was a far different story. It still grazed him, sending him skidding back on the remains of the ice and leaving a bruise in his side as he planted a hand on the ground to brace himself.

A savage grin crossed Renar's face as he rose a good distance away, taking up his stance again.

"Just so you know, I don't expect to win this. I only wish to learn as much as I can from facing a superior foe. So come at me with the intent to kill, I'll not mind the bruise to my ego."

He surged forward once more, engaging in a series of practiced thrusts, closing the distance with each one. After getting close enough in arm's reach, Renar shifted his grip on his quarterstaff. His left hand flew off the grip, the handful of dirt he'd grabbed while skidding along the ground earlier flying straight for Lilia's eyes. His right hand whirled his staff around, coming around in a one-handed swing for the side of her head while she was distracted dealing with the blinding move.

Renar Hagen

"No magic?" Renar echoed, his head tilting just slightly in mild curiosity. Hm. Despite her own misgivings, Lilia's movements were certainly those of a trained swordfighter. Good. Hopefully, she was at least close to her mother's might. Anything less wouldn't serve for his goals.

"I never said anything of the sort. It matters little what I can and cannot do: use whatever methods you have at your disposal. I certainly will." From his stance, his left foot shot forward, kicking up a not insubstantial amount of dust to conceal his footwork. Renar charged, using the same techniques he would have used with his poleaxe while holding a quarterstaff instead. He raised his stave and moved to smash it towards the side of Lilia's head, only to feint and draw back, aiming for a high thrust instead.

Salvator Rasch

Fantastic. More automata reinforcements. That cut into his plan to flank from the side. With the two AI-driven fighters actively in search-and-destroy mode for him, Salvator couldn't risk firing into the other combatants from the flank without revealing his position to the two backup gunners. For the moment, he decided to simply keep the other soldiers' positions revealed to the rest of the Envenomed, tagging them on his HUD and transmitting it over the squad link to keep them updated.

As the rest of his team scythed through the enemy and the gunner automata abandoned their search for him to try to reinforce their masters, Salvator raised his carbine and prepared to engage. Though before he lined up a proper shot, Salvator felt the oncoming surge of ethereal radiation and hurriedly ducked back down into cover, riding the blast out. What he saw and heard once he poked his head back up was encouraging.

They'd found their contact at last. Thank the stars that this mission hadn't gone completely fubar from the start, then. Salvator approached slowly, only decloaking and flicking the safety on his rifle as he drew close enough to the source of the comm signal to be in speaking range.

"Let's get to it, then." The voidhanger nodded, his helmet bobbing under his hood. "What mess did our command send us to sort out, exactly?"
