I'm Randomness. I also go by others names when it's unavailable, but those are usually some variation of Randomness or Random in general.
I like anime, video games, and science. I'm currently in school studying to become an radiologic technologist. I'm in the initial stages, so I'm on my way. My favorite anime is Eureka Seven, and my favorite video game is a tie between Kingdom Hearts and Etrian Odyssey.
I have several story ideas, but currently lack motivation to write them out. I have plenty of notes for some of them so when I finally get around I'm prepared. That said, I absolutely enjoy group story telling like you do through role playing. One of my interests involved is world building and the connections between them if any.
One of my characters travels between worlds, dimensions and universes. What these are meant to be are different RPs. There seems to be some taboo around such a character, but I feel that is should be judged on a case by case basis. The idea of a seasoned character who has been on many adventures being able to share stories in passing sounds like a fun idea. I thought it would be an interesting idea that those stories could be from other RPs. He isn't meant to highjack the current RP, or be over powered. I admit, I can see that concern. Really though, he is meant to be an eccentric character with stories and treasures not before seen. The effects of these stories are meant to be entertaining, like fairy tales to the current cast. And what treasures he has or can use I'd restrict to what makes sense in the current world. But like I said before, it should be case by case. A learner, and a story teller. I think it's fun to link concept together through this character so the story could live on in new ways and perhaps give new RPs a different kind of character. Without upending everything of course.
Appearance: Edmond is 6'3" tall. He weighs about 180 lb. He is defined muscular, but not bulky. His hair is dark brown. His eyes are brown bordering hazel. He has no facial hair, tattoos, piercings, or other body modifications. He is usually dressed in a charcoal business suit without a tie. When doing other activities he will be dressed in business casual consisting of dress pants, untucked button down shirt (sometimes sleeves rolled above his elbows), and black shoes.
Abilities: Contact Assimilation
A) By skin contact alone Edmond can copy an ability, power, skill, or strength including intelligence that the person he has contacted possesses. B) By skin contact alone Edmond can lock away an ability, power, skill, or strength including intelligence that the person he has contacted possesses. C) By skin contact of varying length Edmond can leech an ability, power, skill, or strength including intelligence from the person he has contacted possesses.
+ The power gained, or the power locked away will be done so temporarily (Times are prone to change for balance) - Edmond will gain the skill for approximately three hours, after which it will fade away over the course of one more hour. - Any skill that is locked will be completely locked until approximately one hour has passed, slowly coming back over the course of one more hour. - Any skill that is leeched will give Edmond access to that skill for approximately 8 hours or more depending on how long he had managed to maintain contact. - Any skill that is leeched will be locked from the person it was leeched from for approximately 3 hours or more depending on how long he had managed to maintain contact.
+ Given the nature of this skill, when he has made contact he will have access to the immediate knowledge the person he had made contact with has. This will mostly be trivial information such as a name, current location, Edmond himself if applicable, current feelings, and most importantly the skill set the person is most adept with. If Edmond wishes to take something more complex that requires thought, planning, or learning, Edmond needs to know that the person he has contacted does have that knowledge or power in the first place.
+ Intelligence that is leeched or locked is simply forgotten but the person will eventually remember. This also applies to reactions and muscle memory. As a side note: He cannot lock away or leech inherited or long lived knowledge such as involuntary bodily functions, the person's own name, or how to walk.
+ When taking a power, he is taking how that D3-VO gene was manifest, thus he does not need to know what the power is to acquire it.
+ He can usually hold onto multiple abilities at once with the exception to strength which he can only gain so much from. He can hold onto about three powers at once.
+ He cannot force himself to let go of a power, ability, or knowledge. The closest thing would be to lock his own ability, but doing that will prevent him from using any aspect of his power until it comes back after a couple hours. Likewise, he cannot suddenly give back a power he has locked or leeched.
Skills: - He is skilled in mechanical and electrical engineering. - He is able to program his own mechanisms. - A business man by trade, he helps make sure things run smoothly between departments and companies. - Black belt karate
Equipment: Charcoal business suit and a metallic briefcase. Luxury vehicle.
Biography: Edmond was always an ambitious man, he started out life in everything provided to him by his parents, but not raised to be spoiled. His father owned a technological firm just outside New York City called Heidis. They were successful in constructing the first iteration of the microengines that other companies refined to power the drones and carriers of today. While their work was ground breaking, the company plateaued in innovation as other companies took the design and improved upon it. This did not depress Edmond or his father since Heidis was still a successful manufacturing company of the key components, as well as making complicated equipment to buyer specifications.
Edmond had never really discovered his power until he was in high school working at his father's firm. His father had grown sick, so Edmond acted as a sort of proxy for his father. Already having a knack for the mechanical work they were doing, this was not an issue. Edmond was close to several of the engineers and soon found that by simply touching them such as if he put his hand on one of the engineers shoulders that touched his neck, he would gain the information or the expertise for the project he had shown special interest in. He had noticed this before, but when he was suddenly able to program the robotic arm to ensemble the key parts together, something he was not trained nor allowed to do before, he started to put pieces together. After his father recovered, Edmond continued to work for him at Heidis this time more as his assistant.
It was not until his father died during college did Edmond really use his power. His father had left him with the company, so he was the new owner. He found that the people he was buddies with before tried to go under him to seize control. One of the larger technological plants was attempting to buyout Heidis without Edmond knowing, and without his father ever telling him. The workers who remained wanted to go through with the buyout since it would give many of them a generous severance once it went through. Edmond was not having any of it.
By this time, deviants had become a growing political issue and there was no shortage of people attempting to name and shame as many as they could. Edmond used this hate mongering to locate specific abilities, make friends with some of them, and then assimilate the powers as needed. Through a course of business negotiation, legal action, and deviant deceit Edmond had left the traitors on the street with nothing, prevented Heidis from being sold, and got the company to start innovative engineering once again. Shortly after everything had settled, Black Sabbath had taken place.
From then on, if Edmond was ever suspected of being a deviant, he would avoid it by locking away his own power. When he was tested, the genes were always dormant. The way the machines operated at the time, they could not tell the difference between a dormant gene from a nonpowered person and a gene that was artificially locked away. While it was annoying at times as he waited for his power to return, he considered it a small cost compared to the alternative.
Striking a contract with the Peacekeepers, Edmond now bides his time running his company. He maintained a few of the friendships he has built during his life, working behind the scenes to keep them from being discovered as long as they are loyal to him in return. While not planned or expected, the insurgence of need for technology and innovation to deal with the devo threat was just a large enough push to bring Heidis out of the shadows of its former self and into a new age of development.
Backstories are not my forte.
I'm sure there is something else about his power I should mention, but I can't think of it at the moment. I'm sure if it comes up I can do something about it. As for length, I'm willing to adjust it so that it's balanced, but it shouldn't be delegated a mild inconvenience in my opinion.
I have had a character sitting for a while whose ability was the power to either gain, lock, or leech other peoples abilities. Not limited to powers, but also skills and strength. None of it is permanent. He gains the power for a short time. If he leeches a skills he has if for longer. For example, if he copies a skill, he has it for 5 hours. If he locks a skill on someone else, it's locked for five hours. If he leeches the skill (essentially both copying a skill, and locking it at the same time), it lasts for 10 hours. Numbers are for example, prone to change. It's also worth mentioning that he can only do this with direct skin contact. Would that be acceptable?
A follow up question, this character was originally designed as a technological business giant. Converting that to your RP lore, I would say he essentially locked his own ability to bypass gene checks since it would simply be inactive (I'm sure nonpowered people hold a dormant version of said gene), continued running his company, and makes a profit providing the Peacekeepers with equipment, developing technology, and funding quarantine cities as his personal fish in a barrel acting as a sort of pseudo-villain. He goals would be an ally to the peacekeepers, keeping them of his back by not revealing himself, and stopping the resistance since it would also interfere with his profit margin., all the while go fishing for abilities he can use to further these goals.
I've browsed the site a couple times to get a feel for the layout, and while I'm still a little confused on how things are done, I'm intrigued. I'm not necessarily new to role playing, but my experience is limited. I'll try to be active enough for the most part hoping school and work don't get in the way too much.
I have several ideas that I want to use as characters and RP settings, but my current platform isn't very active (only one existing RP of my own creation with a post every week and a half). I'm not looking for anything super fast, but if I can get away with a couple posts a week, I'd be happy.
