I noticed you mentioned not to make the characters underpowered. So I present to you, Zyghin, Claw of the Prime Darkness.

"Y'know, I'm a cheery person but even I'm caught off guard by kindness sometimes. I didn't get a lot of it when I was younger," he admitted mindlessly.

He touched his orange headband before stopping in the middle of the hall. Again, Haley was making him feel strange. Normally he would never return to those horrible times, at least not in the open, not with someone else. He smiled a teasing grin, taking advantage of her own worries in order to put distance between them. "You? Gaia herself made someone upset? Bah! I can barely believe that." He shooed her away with a single hand. "You better fix it before its too late. I'll go on ahead and eat lunch. You go make sure whoever you upset is cool."

Meruem tossed a lone grape into the air, only for it plop into his mouth. He suppose he understood, though, honestly he wouldn't of mind someone else doing the same to him. If they could and didn't mean any harm, than what was the issue? still, perhaps he had been absent-minded again. After his talk with Uravity and Lemillion, it had been like everything he once was, had been flipped upside down. Where he was once shy, he was now brash. Where he was once insecure and reckless, he was now careful and confident. Or so he thought.

With a kind smile, he turned to face her. "Yea, I guess I do, Haley." He sighed before eating another grape. "I guess I should apologize to the others. I said sorry to you but... perhaps they deserve one too. Besides all that, let me ask you another question, why did you come cheer me up earlier? Like what's the real reason?" He paused
@Double Its all good. Dealing with Roleplayer Guild has prepped me for the long wait.

He had barely noticed him, the engine-boy, but he had noticed him. It was good to finally hear him speak up. If he hadn't known any better, he would've believed most of students in the class was just puppets, or non-existing shadows. They were bare bones in the personality department and didn't stand out at all. Meruem passed over Haley's question, pointing at the engine-boy as he passed. "That's the kid I barely beat during the exam," he told her, a playful shoulder-bump prodding her personal-space. "He's also the main reason I have these questions for you. I mean... they're mostly questions. A part of me just wants to hang out with you... I think."

He let a meaningful pause resonate between them before speaking again. And when he did, he did so with a soft smile on his face."First question, Haley. Why did you let them treat you like a princess during the exams? You know just as well as I do that you didn't need any of that. It pissed me off watching my rival be defended like she's weak."

Meruem was excited... kind of. He felt his stomach tilt but it wasn't anything nauseating, mostly a mild discomfort. He worked through it by packing his stuff up rather quickly, his journal tucked deep in his bag. As he stood up he noticed Haley closing in. A charming, welcoming smile blessed his lips. "You ready for lunch?" he asked abruptly before she could get her own words out.

Once she had spoken however, Meruem was noticeably disappointed, if only for a short moment. "Okay, that's cool." He reached into his bag and pulled out a zip-lock bag; inside of it was a banana, thin ham sandwich, and a parcel of grapes. He slid by her. "Let's walk and talk. That way we'll get more words in," he told her, his attention divided between her in Augustus. "Just... Just hold on one moment."

Meruem hurried over to Augustus' desk. "I don't know about everyone else but I'm down for a chat group. Here's my number... just try not to make it perverted," he jested before passing along his number. Afterwards, he returned to Haley and led her out the door, passing by Lucas without much thought. "I'm really happy you decided to go to lunch with me, Haley. This way we can get to know each other better. Plus I have some questions for you."
@rocketrobie2 Go for it. Just make it honorable. I made him with love.
@Double This is just off the top of my head. But I think I want mines to be known as Dawn Island.

It bothered him immensely. The fact that, instead of clarity, Haley had brought confusion along with her. He hated it really. Just that eye contact had reeled him even further down the rabbit hole. In a classroom full of people aiming to be heroes, she was the only one that stood out to him. So he observed her like a kid would a marble, looking for all the kinks, beauty, and intrigue. She was bright red at the moment, her face tinged a special kind of rose. Was it because they had locked eyes?

His frown turned into a crooked smile. He'd have to pick her brain about his dilemma; talk hero stuff with her, and forge this friendly rivalry with bonding sparks instead of searing flames. He reached into his backpack, tore a blank page from his journal, and scribbled on it. So about lunch? I was thinking we go back out to the exams area.

He folded the paper, laid his head on the desk, and dropped it from his grasp. Before it could touch the floor, his Quirk had activated, black filling the white of his eyes and all. He directed it through the legs of the others, some people noticing it, others not so much. Once it reached Haley's leg, it prodded twice before falling by her shoe. If she wondered who it was and looked up out of curiosity, she would see Meruem looking out the windows, a cherub smile on his face.

Meruem had recollected on his performance during the Quirk Exams. It wasn't spectacular and unlike before, nothing flashy or impressive had left a mark on the proctor. Mr. Walker was too concerned with his students to recognize the complicated applications, quick-witted adaptability, and moxie that he had shown. All were perfect aspects of heroes. Meruem, in that moment, so frustrated with that thought had thrown his towel into his locker and shut the metal door with his Quirk. The clang was loud in the locker room, his eyes dimly smoking before fading back to white.

My dream to be The Symbol of Peace... Its all that kept me going back then. Mama, Dad... I'll try not be so sensitive but I'm scared. What if I--- What if I can't, he let that soul-rocking thought trail off, falling off the edge of existence. He was too smitten with the idea; to even consider its falsehood was akin to an obsessed stalker being spurned. What could happen next would not be pretty.

Now back in the classroom, he wore the persona of the jolly hero. On that sheet of paper, he wrote: "Give me something really cool. Something that inspires action in others, that reassures them that a powerful, great, hero has arrive. I would suggest looking to the Silver Age for true inspiration for my costume. Most recently, All Might. The color scheme should be, orange primary and blue secondary. P.S. Go wild with it and make it SUUUUPER BRAVE!"

While he wrote with the excitement and fury of a cavemen discovering fire, he could hear the chatter in the room dip then rise. The voices were distinctive, at least one of them was. He peaked his head from his paper, saw Haley, and with confused raised his brow. Her words during the exam, they had calmed him in the locker room too. The thought of his rival seeing him in such a fit, a tantrum really was unsavory altogether. It had reinforced his steeled spirit, straightened it out to be precise but in the process it had disturbed him too. He guessed he owed her twice, though she'd only know of the one.
