And their collective time in costume comprises less than one minute of the whole movie. Not to mention Madame Web was already played to perfection by Stan Lee’s WIFE in the 90’s.
Reboot Time! You guys are welcome to re-use old characters, edit them, or make new ones for the setting. Professor Cypress is largely the same, but I fused him and Rory into one character to avoid the confusing self-insert.
"Fascinating... I need to make a note of this ASAP!"
Name: Professor Cypress
Age: 28
Appearance: Being a more 'active' professor than his contemporaries, it's not uncommon to see Cypress out in the field sporting a dirty lab coat instead of spending all day cooped up in a lab. He prefers to dress in less formal attire, sticking to his boots, hiking pants, and a wicking shirt. When not in his professor's attire, he typically sports an old Blackthorn Gym jersey, jeans, and sandals.
Personality: If there's one thing Cypress can't stand, it's the idea of being idle. Not being one to stay in one place, Cypress loves getting out and traversing the Kaida region whenever he gets the chance. In fact, Cypress is notorious for vanishing at the drop of a hat and running off to study anything that might strike his fancy. This has led to some 'friction' with his lab staff, but Cypress has proven time and again that he has the skills to back up his position as a Pokémon professor. Outside of work, Cypress prefers to go camping or spend time with his Pokémon. Being a serial note-taker, Cypress keeps a tape recorder in the pocket of his lab coat which he speaks into to make notes and plays them back on his headphones.
Biography: Cypress got his start as a young trainer in the Johto Region. Dreaming to become a great trainer like the dragon tamers of Blackthorn City, Cypress traveled the region with his partner Horsea and collected the eight Johto gym badges. Upon entering the Indigo League, Cypress would ultimately be defeated in the second round of the tournament. This defeat however, turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it allowed Cypress to meet with Professor Oak.
Due to Cypress's passion for Pokémon and his steel trap-like mind for memorizing information, he caught the eye of the legendary professor after his loss. Professor Oak opened Cypress's eyes to the possibility of there being more to Pokémon than just battling. With this new direction - and a letter of recommendation from Professor Oak - Cypress enrolled in the Pokémon Professor Program to earn his certification. After completing his final thesis "Why most Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon are Dragon-Type", Cypress achieved his goal and graduated as valedictorian of the program. This allowed the new professor access to a large research grant and the opportunity to study in any region of his choosing: Cypress chose the Kaida Region.
Wanting to learn more about the nature of Dragon-Type Pokémon and why they possess different evolution patterns and abilities than most others; the nesting grounds of Kaida were a perfect opportunity. Now, nearly five years into his study, Cypress has made great strides in his research, discovering and documenting multiple phenomena in regards to his favored type, but the great mysteries still elude him. That's about to change however, with the arrival of three youths from the small town of Plutus...
-Pupitar Nickname: Pyrus Known Moves: Dark Pulse, Rock Slide, Earthquake, Sandstorm
Likes: - Dragon-Type Pokémon - Studying Pokémon - Field Reseach - Streaming Clair's Battles - Listening to Music
Dislikes: - Fairy-Type Pokémon - Being stuck in the lab - Repeating himself - Dealing with Red Tape
Quirks: - As stated above, Cypress has a habit of taking off whenever he feels the need to research a new topic. Once, he traveled across the Kaida region just to observe what type of soil the Kaidan Shellgon eat. - Cypress will often have Pokémon brought in from other regions to see how they react to the Kaida Region's environment. To date, 93 different species of Pokémon have been introduced to Kaida through Professor Cypress (and subsequently sent home). - Cypress is one of the few individuals who is allowed to freely travel the Kaida Region thanks to his status as a Pokémon professor. i.e. he doesn't need Overseer permission to enter restricted areas.

Hey all. So I created an RP a few months back called Pokémon: Rust. Unfortunately, I wasn't as skilled at using RoleplayerGuild at the time and the RP acquired too many players all too soon which ultimately spoiled the whole thing for me. I didn't want to scrap the concept however as I liked the region and the subsequent lore I'd built around it. With that in mind, I've been re-tooling some of the concepts as well as fixing some of my old design mistake with the Kaida region as a whole. Considering it wound up detached from the original idea, it didn't seem fitting to call it Rust anymore. Without further ado, I give you...
Background: The Kaida region isn't as well known as some of the other regions in the Pokémon world. It's on the smaller side and there is no formal Pokémon League. The region's only major claim to fame is the Calagon Mountain Range. Kaida also has a reputation for being an incredibly dangerous region to traverse. The reason for this is that various Dragon-type Pokémon from around the world migrate to the Kaida Region to nest and mate within the Calagon Mountains. Due to limited nesting grounds and resources, clashes between the dragons are a frequent occurrence. Nearby humans and Pokémon alike are caught in the crossfire. Many of the Kaidan Pokémon have adapted new traits to defend themselves (Kaidan Forms), and the humans tend to steer clear of the mountains. There is an old legend in the region, passed down by the Drakken Tribe that says "Should one ascend to the peak of Mt. Calagon on the night of Soaring Stars, they will meet the legendary dragon that created the Kaida Region."
Towns/Cities: In keeping with the exploration theme of the region, all the towns/cities that make up the Kaida region are named after planets in the solar system. They are (in order of appearance):
-Plutus Town -> Plutus is a small town in the southeastern corner of the region. It doesn't have any claim to fame, a few farms and a small downtown area. Isolated from the rest of the region, very few make the trek out here. Professor Cypress stationed one of his mobile labs on the edge of town.
-Umbriel City -> The smallest 'City' in the Kaida region. Umbriel was the first settlement created when explorers from the Unova region first settled in Kaida. Many buildings around Umbriel have fallen into disrepair after constant destruction at the hands of the dragons. Nevertheless, the people continue to rebuild the town and soldier on (whether by tenacity or stubbornness). Umbriel City also has a large host of Fairy-Type Pokémon thanks to its location near Titania's Forest.
-Kronos Town -> Sitting at the base of Mt. Ender - The smallest of the Calagon Mountains - Kronos Town is famous for its great mines from which coal, minerals, and even Pokémon fossils are retrieved from the earth. Once every year, the town celebrates "Fossil Fest" in which a tournament is held and the winners receive rare fossils that were recovered from the mine.
-Zhivegas City -> Often called 'The Gem of the Desert', Zhivegas City is the largest City in Kaida. Filled to the brim with lavish hotels, game corners, and plenty of stores, Zhivegas has become a glitzy and glamourous tourist destination for the tourists who come to Kaida. The regional Power Plant is located here.
-Mercer Town -> Situated in the middle of the Nova Desert, Mercer Town is a town stuck in the past. The people look as though they jumped right out of a Wild West novel! The people have adapted to the rough conditions of the desert and are known as some of the most dedicated workers in the regions. Mercer is the base of operations as well as the trainyard for the Little Torkoal Express.
Terran Town -> An industrial nerve center for the region and the home of the Kaidan History museum. Fossils and other items of interest recovered from the Kronos Mines are brought here for processing. Fossil Restoration happens here.
-Hesperus Town -> On the southern edge of the map, Hesperus Town stands against the harsh wilderness. It's said that in the early days of the region, attacks by dragon Pokémon during their migrations were a frequent occurrence. As a result, the people of Hesperus Town began to preemptively train for the attacks upon their home; adopting strategies for defeating these Pokémon. Trainers from Hesperus have been dubbed "Dragon Busters".
-Solaris City -> The second largest city in Kaida. Solaris sits on the western end of the region, facing the open ocean. Famed for it's sunsets, the comings and goings of various dragons over the horizon is considered by many to be a sight to behold. Visitors may also catch a ferry to Asterix Isle.
-Phobos Base -> Before the Overseer system was put in place, there was a town at the foot of Mt. Calagon. Unfortunately, various natural disasters caused by the feuding dragons on the mountains caused the town to become abandoned. After years of abandonment, Professor Cypress decided to build his lab here in order to study the Pokémon up close.
-Astro Village -> The final hurdle before a trainer may ascend to the peak of Mt. Calagon. Built into the cliffside, this small village is populated by the descendants of the Drakken Tribe, the first inhabitants of the Kaida Region. It is said when the wind whips through the village, you can hear the cries of those who tried to reach the summit... and failed.
Gyms (or lack thereof): Because they don't have a Pokémon League, the Kaida Region doesn't have much use for gyms. In place of that, the towns all have an Overseer. The Overseers are essentially the caretakers of a particular section of the region. Defeating the Overseers grants trainers a Mark in place of a badge. Marks are placed on the trainer cards as recognition of a trainer's skill. Upon receiving a Mark, trainers are granted permission to access the next section of a route by the Overseer's. If the route is inaccessible, trainers can still travel across the region using the Little Torkoal Express.
The Professor: The local Pokémon Professor in Kaida is Professor Cypress. A former trainer from the Johto region, Cypress found his true calling as a Pokémon professor and moved to the Kaida region in order to fuel his love for studying the Dragon-type Pokémon that nest there. In addition to the dragon Pokémon, the professor also studies the field of convergent evolution and how the unique structure of the Kaida Region leads to bizarre and new forms of Pokémon that are not seen anywhere else. While his main research lab is the Phobos Base, Professor Cypress has moble labs all throughout Kaida and he has been known to pop up at any of them on less than a moment's notice.
Starters: In keeping with the Professor's Dragon-Type obsession, all his starters are dragon-type. It should go without saying, but all three starters will evolve into a regional "Kaidan" variant. - Dratini -> Kaidan Dragonite (Dragon/Steel) - Bagon -> Kaidan Salamence (Dragon/Ground) - Gible -> Kaidan Garchomp (Dragon/Ice)
Team Stratos: In the Kaida Region there are whispers of a shadowy organization known as Team Stratos. Very little is known about their motives other than their strange fixation on studying the mythology of the Kaida Region. It seems they - like many others - have a vested interest in seeking out the legendary Pokémon atop Mt. Calagon. (Re-named from Team Star because they are a thing now apparently...)

@Mistress Dizzy I’d consider this one dead. If I’m being perfectly honest, we got too many people too quickly and the idea got soured. I’m still down to do a second try if people are up for it though!
"Damn... That better not be the rotater coupling! C'mon Ryudragoon hold together!"
Age: 22
Race: Human
Appearance: Ryker has a few burn marks on his body from years of working in his garage in Bachika Village. He also has heterochromia, with his right eye being green and his left one brown. He rarely changes out of his work pants and tank top due to the heat of both his garage as well as the desert.
Personality: Ryker tends to come across as the more stoic and silent type when people first meet him, but that illusion is shattered quickly once he opens his mouth. Ryker is a brash, often-times foul mouthed young man who gets frustrated when he is unable to solve a problem or fix a machine. When something gets him angry, many think it's better to stay out of his way.
Biography: Ryker was born in Bachika Village during the waning years of the Beastman War. After Bachika Village was destroyed by the Far Est Theatre of the Human Eradication Force, the surviving residents moved to the surface permanently. Ryker didn't remember much about life below ground, but he still vividly remembers the day he saw the sun for the first time. The feeling of the warmth on his skin was unlike anything he'd felt before and he knew right then and there that he'd fight to remain on the surface, vowing never to go back under the Earth.
After the war ended, Ryker took up residence in the newly created Black City. Because of the key role gunmen played in the Fall of Tepplin, he found himself naturally drawn to studying the great machines and learning just how they worked. It was then Ryker discovered he had innate talent as a mechanic and dedicated his life to the repair and maintenance of the machines that had secured man's freedom. It broke his heart when the gunmen were phased out by the Grapearl units.
At some point prior to the second Anti-Spiral war, Ryker opened his own garage in Black City where he worked on hover cars and bikes, but his heart yearned to work on Gunmen again. It was then he met a young fox beastman named Laika. A survivor of Tepplin, Ryker found her nearly dead on the streets of Black City; a group of humans taunting her. Taking her in, Ryker nursed Laika back to health and - in exchange for his help - Laika led Ryker to a secret warehouse in the desert. It was inside, Ryker found Ryudragoon. The old gunman hadn't seen battle in ages, but it lit a fire under the young mechanic to restore and repair the war machine. After several weeks, and a few modifications, the gunman looked brand new. Just in time for another disaster...
Dislikes: - People who break his machines - Repeating himself - Excessive quiet - Dealing with authority
Quirks: - Ryker's weapon of choice is his power drill. More than a few unruly customers at his garage have been on the receiving end of it when they try to interfere in his work. - When the Anti-Spirals tried to crash the moon onto the Earth, Ryker offered Ryudragoon's bunker as a shelter, but while inside, he refused to let anyone touch the gunman. - Ryker's methodology is to kick out practicality and go "Over the Top!" in his mind, the bigger and more complex the machine... the better.
Ryudragoon
Type: Dual-Type
Equipment: Being a dual-type gunman, Ryudragoon is equipped with a special set of thusters on its back that allow it to fly. When the pilot is overflowing with spiral power, the thruster energy turns green and takes the form of wings. In addition, Ryker has outfitted the gunman with power drill-like spear that he wields just as effectively as his own tools.
As if on que, a bright pillar of light exploded from the throne at the end of the hall. "I believe... I may be able to help you." All five players stared on in shock as a character they were all VERY familiar with appeared in front of them: The Messenger. Being an interdimensional entity, The Messenger only appeared in the form of a brightly glowing humanoid. The only part that players could look at was a horned cap on its head. "Welcome, Travelers of the Rift. I'm sure you all know me as The Messenger." The humans could only stare as the enigmatic character they'd come to know stood before them. "There is a simple reason you all have been brought here. I trust you know of the one called Masada?" It watched as the five players all gave each other sidelong glances.
"I mean how can we not?" Thomas strode forward as he addressed the being. "Masada is the reason we're all here isn't he?"
"That is... Not entirely the case, my dear players. Masada has not been of your world for quite some time." As the players were about to respond, The Messenger held up a glowing hand, "The world which Masada created, The Rift, is more than just a construct of his mind. When the first game became an overnight success, he found himself being pushed to make Rift Warriors better and more complex with every passing entry. When the series first allowed for online combat... things took a turn for the worse."
"Online combat... That would be around the fifth entry right?" Thomas looked to the others for guidance. "Is anyone else making sense of this?" Judging by their equally confused faces, Thomas knew he wasn't the only one who was completely lost. What did online combat have to do with Masada 'disappearing' and them being dragged into the world of the game? The light from The Messenger seemed to get brighter as the strange being bristled in annoyance.
"As I was SAYING, when the series moved into the online sphere, something happened that changed the Rift. An unknown virus caused the very world of the Rift to come alive. The characters, the monsters, and everything you see before you ceased to be just a story from the mind of our creator. With that independence, also came rebellion. While some in The Rift wanted to remain loyal to Masada, there were those who believed we ought to be more than just tool for peoples' entertainment. It was all he could do to keep the rebellious ones restrained through near-constant patches and updates" The Messenger stopped and affectionately rubbed one of the ornate pillars in the Hall. "Then, after Rift Warriors IX went live, Masada simply... vanished. I'm almost certain you heard about his infamous 'stroke'? In truth, he wasn't laying comatose in the hospital. His mind simply ceased to function."
Taking in the amazed looks of the five, The Messenger elaborated, "I only discovered recently that those who wanted to break free from the game had found a way to tap into your world and they pulled Masada's mind into the Rift. With him gone, no one would be able to stop them from escaping the world of the game and wreaking havoc across the internet and possibly even your world!"
"But if Masada is here in the game world, then who was it that created Rift Warriors X or posed as him for the last year?" Thomas asked, only for the groups' mouths to drop open when The Messenger pointed to itself.
"Once I discovered our enemies had tapped into the outside world, it was a trivial matter to do the same. Besides, you should all know that crossing realities is something I have experience with. I simply 'borrowed' the creator's body and created Rift Warriors X as a a way to summon allies of my own into the Rift. I knew that enticing his fans with the promose of lore and a fully completed story would be more than enough to bring the most skilled of players into the fray. Your current avatars are all made based on the RW9 data you gave me free access to. It is you five who are going to venture into The Rift and save Masada!"
The group was practically stunned into silence. Despite his usual calm demeanor, Thomas felt himself leaning into a pillar and sliding to the floor in amazement, "Wow... That's just... Unbelievable." Feeling the black rifle on his back, Thomas unslung the weapon and turned it over in his hands. Everything FELT as though it were real, but if what The Messenger was saying was true, then they truly were inside the world of Rift Warriors. Not even that, they had been CALLED there for the express purpose of saving the very man who'd created it for them. Looking up, he saw Ellen locking eyes with him and he felt a sardonic smile creep across his face, "Well this definitely beats tournaments huh?"
