And their collective time in costume comprises less than one minute of the whole movie. Not to mention Madame Web was already played to perfection by Stan Lee’s WIFE in the 90’s.
Imagine a world parallel to our own. It's like ours except this world - Vecta - is built on magic in place of science. Various races of monsters coexist with the 'Morai' (More-I), Vecta's equivalent of humanity. This world is overseen by the Twin Gods: Drasil and Morganna. A brother and sister pair who rule over darkness and light respectively. At first, the brother and sister shared in their dream of creating a perfect world, but clashing ideals about how to go about it drove the siblings apart. For millennia, both have dedicated their time into creating the 'ultimate' beings who will turn Vecta into the perfect world they envision.
Morganna, with her warm and caring demeanor, believed that it was her duty as the goddess of light to oversee the day to day affairs of her people. She would personally ensure their needs were met and that they never wanted for anything. Drasil on the other hand, saw his creations as things to be left alone. They would need to grow strong without having a god stepping in over every minor inconvenience. Over time, the world of Vecta began to descend into a long period of stagnation. Neither god's creations could be viewed as "better" than the other's, and it seemed as though the people and monsters that inhabited Vecta were getting worse with each passing year. A new sort of creation was needed in order to bring a spark to this world.
A new idea would arise by happy accident one day while Morganna was watching our world. She noticed an unsually high number of humans were dying in random accidents or being killed before their alloted time on Earth was up. Feeling pity, Morganna suddenly had an idea! She decided that she would personally take the souls of these unfortunate humans to Vecta and reincarnate them into a new life. This way, they could live out the remaining years of their lives, and she would even have something new to challenge her brother with. Over time, these "Children of the Otherworld" were discovered to have high aptitude for magic, skill acquisition, and warfare than a common resident of Vecta. Upon discovering his sister's plot, Drasil began to watch our world as well in the hopes of finding Otherworlders of his own.
Over time, the frustrations between the siblings began to boil over into all-out conflict. Neither god will admit the other is superior and the balance between light and dark is in constant flux. Will your characters join a god and champion their side? Or will you find a different path to stem the conflict? The choice is yours in... The Otherworld!
Welcome to the Otherworld
In this story, your character has just died a tragic and unexpected death on Earth. In your final moments, you are visted by one of the Twin Gods who offer you a chance at a new life in the world of Vecta. The catch? What life you get reborn as isn't going to be human. In taking a soul from our world to Vecta, it seems the flow of mana between the realms has an... unusual effect on passing souls. In order to pass through, the god will have to reincarnate you as a being of Vecta. Upside, you'll get to build a whole new life AND you get skills!
As you spend your final moments on Earth, your characters last thoughts, desires, wishes, regrets, etc. are going to become the foundation of your new life once you cross over. This will influence your skills, magic, and even what sort of creature you wind up becoming! You could be something as simple as a Morai, or something completely out of pocket like a slime! (Note that this random element is meant to be a unique take for writers would would like a small challenge. An opt out is available if you just want to enjoy the fantasy element)
First posts will act like a "Day in the Life" scenario for your character as a human. Give us an idea of who he/she before they die so there's a compare and contrast element when it comes to designing your character's new life. Upon arriving in Vecta, the adventure is wherever you want to go. Depending on which god visits you, you'll be reincarnated into the light capital Lumis, or the dark capital Sombros. Your reincarnated character will remain the same age as when you died (relative to the race).
Races
Vecta is inhabited by a wide array of people and monsters. While many were created by Morganna or Drasil respectively, there still remain a number of beings the gods created before their differences drove them apart. These are viewed as the "Neutral" races. They aren't drawn towards the light or dark exclusively and this grants them more freedom when it comes to moving around the continent. Examples of races you COULD be are provided below. If there's one not listed, please DM your GM.
The Morai - Perhaps the closest equivalent to humans in Vecta, the Morai were the last race of being that Morganna and Drasil combined their talents to create. Altogether, while Morai aren't specialized for any specific role, their adaptability is what makes them among most proliferous races across Vecta. Lacking a strong draw to the light or the dark, the Morai are capable of building whatever path they choose for themselves. In the millennia since Morganna and Drasil's split, they've made their own takes on the Morai, yet the original race still maintains a strong hold in the realm.
Dragons - One of the oldest and most powerful races in Vecta, Dragons are a rare sight in the current years. An attack by a dragon may be reported every few years, but it's rare to hear about one being slain. Their hardened scales are resistant to most forms of damage and some breeds have developed magic resistance. The most skilled dragons have developed ways to disguise themselves and live among the other races in secret.
Primals - Primals are a loose term used for all the races that predate the Common Calendar. Since they were among the earliest creations - when the gods were just beginning - many of them lack a consistent form or recognizable features. Monsters that are considered Primals include: Slimes, Goblins, Kobolds, Aberrations etc. - Goblins -> Often believed to be the "first race" in Vecta, Goblins typically dwell in abandoned caves in small packs. While not strong initially, a goblin that survives long enough to become a "King" can be a deadly threat. - Kobolds and Lamia -> The early attempts at creating the dragon race, Kobolds and Lamia share many traits with their draconic relatives. While Kobolds resemble a humanoid dragon, the Lamia resemble humans from the waist up, with long snakelike tails beneath. While the Kobold are surprisingly smart inventors, the Lamia utilize their charm to trap and defeat their foes.
Sun Morai - A variant of the Morai race. These have been solely created by Morganna. They have many of the same features as a standard Morai, however these have a unique aptitude for the art and study of magic. Due to Morganna's generous and giving nature, the Sun Morai have never felt the burden of physical strife. As a results, they carry a less muscular physique than other variants of their race.
Elves - The wisest and fairest of all the races. A staple of any fantasy world, the elves are dedicated servants of Morganna. Considered to be the perfection of her art, the elves take pride in being the best and brightest. Morganna intervenes the least with this race as they tend to solve most of their problems on their own. Nevertheless, they harbor a devotion to the goddess and their dedication is believed to be why she has graced them with the most magical potential among her brood.
Fae - Fae are spirits that carry the blessings of the goddess through nature. If a traveler were to come upon a lush forest or a flowering field, there's a good chance a Fae has been there. On the shorter side, most Fae stand at a diminutive three feet, but they are quite skilled at hiding. Oftentimes, one can go their entire life and never catch sight of a Fae! - Hamadryad -> A subspecies of Fae, the Hamadryad are nature spirits that bond to the plants around them and draw upon their strength. Experts at nature magic, the Hamadryads are capable of becoming minor deities in their own right with age and experience.
Elementals - Created during a year when Morganna was "experimenting", the elementals are being that were created without a body of flesh. As a result, their forms are composed entirely of their respective element while taking on a humanoid appearance. Not carrying the weight of a pysical body, elementals are bound together by a powerful magic and they can manipulate their element at will!
Shadow Morai - A variant of the Morai race. This variant being Drasil's handiwork. Because of the harsh nature in Drasil's territory (and his beliefs about non-interference), Shadow Morai can be recognized by their paler skin and bigger physique. While it's uncommon for a Shadow Morai to be proficient in magic, their skill on the battlefield more than makes up for any lack in mental acuity.
Merricks - There's no way around it, Drasil made this race because he was bored. Creatures that roam the wilds, Merricks are beings known for their fickle nature and love of trickery. Dressing themselves in the fur of slain beats, Merricks use their magic to transform into the animal who's pelt they wear. They can utilize this skill for battle, hiding, or simply traversing the world.
Orcs - The classic monsters of fantasy. The orcs are exactly what you'd expect them to be: big, muscular, and powerful. One of Drasil's first solo attempts at creation, he favors this race for their impressive skill and willingness to survive even in the worst conditions. Despite years of repeated attempts by Morganna to wipe this 'hideous' race from Vecta, they always seem to survive and repopulate like rats.
Dwarves - Born in the darkness underneath the Earth, the dwarves are master metalworkers, blacksmiths, and armorers. If there's a weapon or armor you want made, the dwarf will make it right. Another race favored by Drasil as the master dwarven smith Bjorn was said to have carved the god's sword: Oro the Golden Blade.
Vampires - Beings of the night, the Vampires - Vampyr for short - are a unique brood in Vecta. Despite their strength and agility, many of them don't engage in the conflict between Morganna and Drasil. They tend to keep to themselves, seeking out victims to turn to their flock. The few that travel have been noticed to carry most of what we'd call 'traditional' vampire features. The sunlight won't kill them however...
Dark Elves - The only Dark Race that relies more on magic that raw strength, the Dark Elves evolved from a cult that turned on Morganna and declared their loyalty to Drasil. As a result, they were claimed by the dark deity and warped into his image. Dark skin, red eyes, and enhanced skill at controlling the darkness around them. Powerful spellcasters, their cult has grown over the centuries, now becoming a religion in Sombros!
As the story goes on, your character will also have the chance to "Evolve" as a race and gain access to more skills and more powerful abilities. An example would be if your character was reincarnated as a Primal race (i.e. a Goblin). Given enough time and experience you could start as a Goblin and evolve: Goblin -> Hobgoblin -> Goblin Lord -> Goblin King. Bear in mind the Morai cannot evolve (as they're human equivalents), but instead they can access new "jobs" in order to strengthen their respective skills. Should you choose Morai as your race, play this carefully as this can be very beneficial.
The Gods
Morganna
Appearing as a beautiful young woman, Morganna is the epitome of angelic grace. She prides herself on providing the best for Vecta's people both Morai and Monster alike. Incredibly giving, Morganna will rarely refuse an upturned hand so long as her followers remain pious and dedicated to bettering the world around them. While many view her as a warm and benevolent goddess, she has a wicked side to her that comes out if she feels slighted in any manor. The gemstone Plata around her neck grants her incredible magical abilities beyond those of any mage or witch in Vecta
Drasil
Drasil appears as a gruff young man in his early thirties. His personality couldn't be more opposed to his sister. Unlike her warm and giving nature, Drasil believes in leaving his followers alone and letting them figure out how to solve their problems. Typically he prefers to intervene in their affairs when he feels there's no other option. Most of the time, said intervention comes in the form of beating the problem into submission. His cold and aloof nature might rub some the wrong way, but it's more of a tough love situation and Drasil's followers are all the stronger for it. His weapon Oro, a blade forged from the scales of the First Dragon, is said to be the mightiest weapon in Vecta.

@TheMushroomLord Considering the anime that inspired this RP literally had a human get reincarnated as a ball of slime there’s a good chance there will be some more “odd” options.
As a note to everyone else, my schedule is finally starting to normalize again so you should expect an OOC post very soon!
@Expendable No they’d be reborn the same age as they died. I thought I spelled it out in the interest check, but it started as Morgana (the light god) having pity on souls who died “too early” in our world. Drasil (the dark god) only took interest when he saw the Otherworlders had a higher aptitude for magic and other such abilities after being brought over and he wanted to one-up his sister.
Close to what @Xaltwind said is my vision. While it’s largely sandbox, bear in mind this is a worlds where the respective gods can -and will- intervene should there be a need. So there are ways different characters could meet and interact. Plus Otherworlders are more likely to have contact with said gods since they’re the reason said Otherworlders are here in the first place.
Now my question: do all PCs come from the same era? Are we all modern-day humans? Are we all humans from the same world?
I’d prefer if they were all modern day tbh. My idea is that both worlds run on a parallel timeline so there would have already been humans from the past that have crossed over. And yes, you would all be from the same Earth as it were.
Since I've had several questions about the RNG nature of the reincarnation mechanic, I'm going to make a GM move and offer an "opt-out" for players that really want to do something specific. If you'd rather pick what you want to be, you can message me in DMs or put it in OOC when the RP goes live. We can work something out as GM and players. The random reincarnation element was more an idea for people who wanted to try something different as a writing challenge. That being said, if any players still want to go that route, the option is MORE than open. I think it could be fun :)
As for the suggestion, sort of tying it into the first question about non-standard racial choices: Maybe it would help people who want more "choice" in what they reincarnate into if they had a general idea of creatures' traits in your world? You could list something like, maybe the five most common "families" of monsters (for example, "Beastkin," "Undead," "Goblinoids," etc) and some short snippets about how they behave or their cultures? That way, maybe a Player has a little bit more to work with even if they don't know exactly what creature in that category they'll end up becoming?
I was actually planning to something similar to this once I posted the first OOC. When it comes to doing the interest check, I just wanted to get the base information and concept out before I started fine tuning the details. There will be a list of “light” and “dark” affiliated races that each god would preside over.
As for the “evolution” system you mentioned, this is another thing I want to implement as growing and building a new life is a major part of the story I’m adapting this from. “That time…” actually has a really cool concept in the first episode, but we only ever see it with the MC. This rp is more about utilizing the concept on a bigger scale.
@Xaltwind It is negotiable if you know how to word your opening post. The whole point of the reincarnation aspect is your character’s respective god will grant you a new life based on your last wishes, desires, and regrets. These together will combine into who or what you’ll eventually be turned into.
