Name: Jean-Paul Valley
Alias: Orphan
Age: 20
Equipment/Skills: As Orphan, Jean-Paul has a multitude of skills that assist him in and out of combat. He is skilled in a multitude of fighting styles. He tends to emphasize mobility with powerful strikes as opposed to a straight forward brawl with anyone. While Orphan is more than capable of taking on his targets with his hand-to-hand combat his skill that outshines all of his others is his ability to wield a sword. Orphan has an indomitable will that allows him to push through great amounts of pain and resist obvious attempts at mind control through psionic means. Exclusive to Jean-Paul (not the Orphan persona) is his mechanical engineering ability which admittedly isn't much but can come in handy if Jean-Paul were forced into a dire situation when not in his Orphan persona.
Jean-Paul also has a small but powerful arsenal of weapons. He has a standard Mother provided katana which allows him to carry out most of his contracts, a grappling gun that was based off stolen designs from Wayne Enterprises and finally the Orphan suit which is full of gadgetry of its own. The Orphan suit is the pinnacle to the Jean-Paul's alter ego's identity and is the most identifying feature of one of Mother’s Orphans. The suit houses serrated gauntlets which are useful for catching the blade of another sword or shard weapon, some basic kevlar armouring to protect against small grade fire arms and most importantly there is a gas mask in the suit. The gas mask pumps various chemicals into the respiratory system of its wearer which can trigger quite a few effects. In total the mask provides four separate gases to the wearer each with its own use. Primarily the gas mask provides filtered air and a drug that increases the wearer’s pain tolerance to the point that sprained limbs are unfelt and broken bones are tolerable (this gas is called ‘Trauma'). The two second and third most used gasses are ‘Suppress’ and ‘Awake’ which bring out either the Orphan persona (Awake) or the Jean-Paul persona (Suppress). Finally there is a gas contained in the suit which is a highly aggressive brain eating disease which will destroy the mind of anyone infected in the span of minutes. All of these gasses are regulated by an Orphan’s handler back at Mother home base.
Weaknesses: While Orphan may have the skills and technology to take down dangerous foes, he has his fair share of disadvantages. First off there’s the obvious weakness of being human and nothing more than that. While very in shape Orphan isn’t in peak human condition and is still vulnerable to projectiles, stabbing weapons and blunt force trauma.
One disadvantage of the built in respiratory system of the Orphan suit is if Orphan doesn’t get a dose of Suppress or Awake for an extended period of time. While Jean-Paul is fine without these drugs and can go without them indefinitely, if Orphan were to go more than 48 hours without either drug his two persona’s would begin to overlap one another resulting in likely irreversible psychological damage as well as a period of time where both personas essentially fight a losing battle for control. In this state Orphan/Jean-Paul would likely have all of the instincts of Orphan and the fighting skills of Jean-Paul resulting in a crazed, overconfident citizen with little chance of surviving on the mean streets of Gotham. Over time the personalities would balance out but this would take close to a week to happen and without outside help Jean-Paul/Orphan would likely have gotten themselves killed by then.
Alignment: Walking the line (Mostly Villain)
Personality: (Orphan) Stoic, Violent (Jean-Paul) Happy, Friendly, un-motivated
Appearance: BRIEF Bio: Jean-Paul was studying at Gotham University in the area of complex mechanics in the hopes of getting a high paying job so that he could retire early and happy. The only problem for Jean-Paul was his sheer lack of drive. As a not-so-gifted-mentally student Jean-Paul began putting more time and energy into the pursuit of finding artificial means of getting a strong will than he did into his actual studies. As his grades began to fall below the passing mark Jean-Paul began to become desperate in his search. Finally one day Jean-Paul received an e-mail from one a company who were looking for test subjects for ‘cognitive recognition and association booster’ which at least sounded like it would help Jean-Paul.
Jean-Paul went to the provided address in the e-mail and wasn’t seen for a week. While Jean-Paul was gone he missed numerous lessons which made many of his peers and teachers believe that he had simply given up but much to their surprise Jean-Paul came back and began raising his grades once again. He told everyone who asked about how he went to the confidential company’s one week retreat where he got to stay in a lavish room and participated in numerous ‘brain games’ which seemed to have helped him achieve his goal of growing a strong will.
What no-one knew was that Jean-Paul had actually gone through a week of torture and brainwashing to become a sleeper agent in Gotham city. The confidential company known as Mother essentially kidnapped Jean-Paul for a week and turned him into one of their many hitmen known as Orphans. Over the coming few months Jean-Paul would commit a slew hits and heists for Mother which garnered the attention of Batman himself. The two never came into direct contact with one another but Batman was getting close to figuring out the Orphan’s identity before he met his untimely end.
Storylines: [Battle of the Assassins] I’d like to, at some point, have Orphan fight someone from another group of assassins such as a Talon or a Assassin from the League of Assassins.
[Rise of Azreal] Something happens and Orphan isn’t able to get a dose of Suppress or Awake and the agent of Mother falls into a crazed state. If he survives he will essentially be born anew as Azreal, sporting a new costume and a flaming sword to smite those that oppose him.
Notes: -After his transformation into Azreal, Azreal will have less fighting prowess but make up for it in ferocity and his mechanical know-how thanks to Jean-Paul.
-Azreal will lean more towards being a hero but will still be considered walking the line as he will gladly kill to stop crime.
