5'11" tall and slim but well-muscled in build, with a pitch black hair tipped with silver and similarly silver eyes. His skin is slightly paler than most, and he has a small scar cutting across his right eyebrow.

Animal Familiar: 'Corvo', a Shade Raven
Armour Style: Black Steel Half-plate, provides good protection while remaining lighter than full plate armour. Black plates of steel armour cover his torso, shoulders, lower legs, feet, forearms and hands. He wears a black tunic and trousers underneath, with a long black scarf loosely around his neck.

Signature Weapon: WIP

History: Raised in a poorer village of the country, Venator was orphaned before he could remember and raised in a communal orphanage owned by a neglectful and arrogant noble woman. To make ends meet, he turned to crime and he became a natural thief with his sharp, analytical mind and quick reflexes. He spent years breaking in and stealing valuables from the homes of nearby nobles until, age 12, his luck ran out and he was caught. Luckily, the man was a passing Knight who took pity on the boy and adopted him. He trained Venator as a knight, and he took to the training quickly.

He eventually became a wandering mercenary/bounty hunter, where he used his rewards to support himself and the village he came from. As a warrior, he was a skilled fighter and tactician with a kind heart, but was closed off and anti-social. He did whatever he could to support and protect the common man, but never stayed long enough to make friends. At the behest of his mentor/adoptive father, he accompanied the veteran Knight to the Announcement Ceremony but he wasn't expecting for his name to be called as the Knight of Darkness...

@Keyblade87 Here's my Knight of Darkness, if you think he's acceptable. I'm a little torn for his weapons of choice. Do you reckon, based on the character, I should go for a Katana or a Bow?

On Stranger Tides - A One Piece RP

@Geyter I think I'd prefer us as a single crew, keeps us in one place and makes it easier to co-ordinate. What rules are in place about Devil Fruits and Haki etc? The idea I have for my character is a sharpshooter/gunner type, so Haki might be important (I'll probably avoid the Devil Fruits).

@VitaVitaAR I was specific in my wording when I said 'over' and not 'instead of', and you've already shot down my attempt as somewhat replicating Origin Rounds. My original idea for them were bullets that completely eliminated Magecraft, like Bounded Fields etc, but I thought that would be too overpowered, considering that would extend to the Magecraft that allows Servants to exist.

Either way, This is rapidly becoming more hassle than it's worth, so I'm respectfully withdrawing both my applications. Best of Luck, I hope this goes well, Vale

@VitaVitaAR The idea is, at it's most basic, a character that uses guns over magecraft (partially because I like the idea, partially because the Magecraft system is a convoluted mess). Is that concept itself the problem or is it just his backstory that's the problem?

Would a Career Mage Killer (trained and raised by his parents) hired by one of the three major families work better?

Yes, I know what Gandr is. I figured its a basic enough curse that a low-skill Magus would know, and it would provide a bit of an advantage if he needed it. Nausea or just general unwellness can be a distraction, and even the smallest distraction can be fatal in combat.

As for why, why do any militants do anything? Ideology? Revenge? Money/Self-gain? James neither knows nor cares, but just to set the record straight the Magus was radicalised while visiting as an aid worker and he attacked them alongside an extremist cell. Not the smartest idea, sure, but extremists seldom have those anyway.

Name: James Rutherford

Gender: Male

Appearance: "For all their tricks, Mages still fall as mortal men."
6'01" with a slim but well-developed body type. A few tattoos across his body, namely a Grim Reaper on his left and tribal dragon on his right forearm, a feathered wing over his heart and a black crow on his right shoulder. His typical outfit consists of a white shirt and black trousers with a black overcoat and boots.
Personality: James has a personality somewhat expected of an anti-hero. He is Intelligent and well-mannered, but also sharp and ruthless if needs be. While not a prodigal mage like others have been, he makes up for his shortcomings by virtue of being very adaptable and able to pick up and retain skills quickly. While not openly hostile or standoffish, he doesn't come across as very friendly or approachable and his often very blunt with his opinions due to a mild form of Asperger Syndrome.

Skills:
Engineering Diploma - Taken during his Basic Training, James is an A-level qualified Engineer in both Mechanical and Electrical Fields. This means he can safely and effectively repair most mechanical or electrical systems.
Military Training - His time in the Marines have given James considerable skill in Firearms, Hand-to-hand and Improved his Engineering skills in a practical sense. As such, he has secured multiple firearms for his time in the War, including an L115A3 Sniper Rifle, an ACE-32 Assault Rifle, a Mateba Autorevolver and a HK45 handgun.

Abilities: As a mage, James has high-quality circuits and a good amount of Prana, both quantifiable as Low to Mid A Rank, but his practical skill and list of spells are limited due to the limited practice he has. His natural elemental alignments of Fire and Earth allow him to maintain a fairly competent understanding of the basics, such as Reinforcement and Gandr, as well as a few more advanced spells like Combustion and Metal manipulation at a very low level.

Brief Backstory: Born and Raised in South West England, James was brought up away from any major Mage Institutions and had a more mundane upbringing with his non-magus litter sister Anna. While receiving training in Magecraft from his parents, he was more focused on his regular schooling to get a good job to help pay for his sister's rare genetic condition, which cause her frequent health problems. He progressed through education at a high level until leaving to join the Royal Marines at 18, forgoing his magecraft entirely. When he was 24, however, he was dragged back into the world of Magecraft when a rogue mage attacked his platoon while on deployment and then tried to escape. Assigned as one of the sharpshooters, he was able to survive but was separated as the other survivors retreated. Alone, James used what little magecraft he knew to hunt the man down and kill him. Unknown to him, however, the Mage Association was also tracking the man, and having saw him mix magecraft and modern weaponry to deadly effectiveness, their agent approached him with an offer: Join them as an Enforcer tracking rogue mages and the like, or they would assure his silence in any way possible, including kidnapping his family.

Hoping to keep his family safe, he became a hunting dog for the Association and began to put more training into his magecraft. While still working for the Association while in America, he caught wind of a unusual Grail War taking place within the country and made preparations to join the War, hoping to free himself and his family from the world of Mages entirely.
