You mentioned Brushen Penn's third creation; I assume Graft and the Factory are one and two?

After the initial shock of ambush, once the violence had commenced, it was like a switch had been turned on in Hyouka. Was it discipline, or merely a subroutine being mechanically rerouted? The friendly, cheery Hyouka took on a serious and stern demeanor. She was about to report that she and Camille were fine before her response was cut short by Gordian being impaled. Hyouka barely flinched, but turned on her comms and reported, "Medic! Hospitaller Gordian is down..." and gave their position relative to the caravan and their downed transport. As much as she wanted to help Gordian receive medical attention, she knew that if every soldier turned to help their downed brethren, there would be no one to fight off their attackers and prevent further harm. Hyouka had built herself to fight, and that was what she was going to do, and let those equipped to help perform the functions they were trusted with. But Hyouka had another matter to address. "Camille! Pull yourself together. Can you fight? If you can, fight! If you can't...get Gordian to the medics. But whatever you do, don't do nothing!" Hyouka regretted the fact that Camille had to be thrust into this situation, though the sight of her weapon indicated that she must have had some degree of training. Hyouka also felt the irony that she had just said how humans and robots weren't that much different, when one of their biggest differences, their mortality, was staring Camille in the face at this very moment.

It was also unfortunate that Camille had just said that she was not mission critical, because it meant that Hyouka had to de-prioritize Camille's safety for the collective safety of the caravan, and could not waste any more time babying Camille. Leaving Camille to her own devices, Hyouka activated her defense field, climbed on top of the flipped transport, and attached her main cannon to the generator in her chest. As the weapon warmed up, the cannons on her shoulders swiveled about, firing searing magenta beams at the enemy's backline in an effort to disrupt whatever support they provided, while thinning out reinforcements to the front. When her heavy particle beam bazooka had fully warmed up, she would fire it at anything that looked like a command center or command group. If none could be found, she would draw a swath of devastation along the enemy's rear lines.

Salem perked up upon hearing that their destination was "Lady Penn's special and forbidden door". Because of Dr.Drd and Brushen Penn's rivalry, Salem jumped at the opportunity to see some of Lady Penn's secrets, and to be shown them by Graft himself! After a few moments of waiting impatiently for the door to open, whatever was inside was quickly obscured by Graft's limbs. Peering, Salem attempted to hover around for a better vantage point, but the area covered by Graft's tentacles combined with the narrow doorway made the attempt a futile one. "Hey! Heeey~! What is it? I wanna seee~!" Salem whined, but Graft refused even to answer Papillary, his subordinate, and Salem knew better than to get close to Graft when he revealed his inhuman parts. Still Salem continued to try to get a glimpse, but to no avail, until Graft offered Salem and Light a few choices. Salem assumed Graft offering to let them see him work in the Laboratory had something to do with the thing he was carrying in his arms, so Salem really didn't have much of a choice, as far as the doll's curiosity was concerned. "The Laboratory it is!" Salem remarked, "Lead the way, Papillary!"

It seems that for now, Salem was along for the ride. The abandoned mannequin couldn't pass up an opportunity to learn some of their esteemed Sable Lords' secrets.

Hyouka smiled to see Camille opening up. "Actually, my parents are robots; big, agricultural tractors. Their model number is actually my surname. But when robots were granted to same rights and privileges as humans, my parents believed that coexistence was something that needed to be nurtured; it wasn't something that was just going to happen overnight. So they built me to look as human as possible, and made sure that I grew up around humans. But for the most part, humans and robots are pretty similar. Sure, they're organic and need to eat and sleep and such, but they based our sentience on their own, so we have similar thought patterns...emotions."

Hyouka pondered on the possibility that robotic minds would deviate from human minds over time, especially if robots transcended biological issues such as mortality. Technically they already did with technologies like the memory banks, but even those had limits. Or the possibility of a single, networked collective consciousness, what to a biological would be the impossible to achieve telepathic hive-mind, but to a machine entirely possible. Hyouka hoped that all robots were wired to have as much a desire for individuality as humans that such a horror never came to pass.

"I am curious though, is your becoming accustomed to humans mission-critical? Are you...mission-critical?" Hyouka asked, somewhat teasingly, wondering if Camille held a greater importance to this mission than had been revealed. Perhaps this escort mission was not merely to escort supplies.
Vivian & Sylvia Altissima

@Restalaan @PaulHaynek @13org @ShwiggityShwah

The sister's listened as Haley explained Ravager's Rest to them. Sylvia wondered if converting the place into an emergency or humanitarian aid camp might be a better alternative to removing it altogether, but she doubted anyone was willing to put in the resources to achieve such a thing. When Neil offered to push their cart, Vivian gave Neil a hearty slap on the the back, "Thanks, man! You're so dependable!" in an effort to distract all present from the sight of Sylvia being shy and flustered.

"Thanks, Talia," Sylvia said to the cyclops upon regaining her composure, "We won't need anything else. More than anything, we just need to wait for the herbs to take the the soil and begin growing."

The sisters were surprised to see so many people joining the quest, but it made sense after last night's conversation. Though the members of the guild felt that they were currently too weak to oppose Varjo directly, solving the problem at Ravager's Rest at least would help to mitigate the problems caused by Varjo, which the guildmembers seemed passionate about. When Ditzy brought up the controversial nature of robbing graves, Vivian pointed out, "But is grave-robbing worse than pulling vegetables out of the ground? And it's not like anybody's planning on eating the bodies, at least I hope not. Anyways, time's a'wastin'! Let's go!" Vivian pointed forward, even though Neil was going to be doing all of the work of transporting the sisters.

It just crossed my mind, but as an animated inanimate object, should Salem be immune to Light's hugs, or is it something that operates on a 'as long as it's sentient'-basis? I think it might be cool if these two got along because Salem was immune (either because he's an inanimate object or because the uncanny valley and cognitive dissonance means zip to a mannequin), but I didn't want to underpower Light's abilities without your permission, and especially if you wanted part of her character arc to involve the loneliness that her maddening touch brings.
Salem Vicarious, Lord of Lost Things

As Salem hovered by Graft, waiting in the foyer for Rodias to arrive, Salem was glad to see Graft excited, having not taken any disagreements to heart. In that way, Director Graft was predictably dependable, being impartial and utilitarian under most circumstances, admirable traits Salem did not possess.

As Rodias arrived and laid out his plan, Salem nodded along, listening. Flan came by to serve tea but Salem merely looked down his nose at the stuff. Nutrition was a weakness of living things, so Salem ignored the maid for the most part, having no use for someone with her function. When Rodias expressed the assumption that Salem might prefer not to be privy to the things rats see, Salem let out a laugh. "The world of the living is covered in filth, so birds or vermin matter little. Besides, birds finding their way indoors is an anomaly, while vermin being indoors is a given. Birds are fine for seeing what happens on the streets, but we'll need vermin to see what goes on people's houses." A sinister grin crossed Salem's face as the doll reveled in the idea of violating people's privacy, not for lewd reasons, but just because Salem liked the idea of seeing people's true selves against their will or knowledge. But as Rodias left to attend to other matters, Graft brought up a good point. Unless they knew what the local fauna looked like, they had nothing for their infiltrating puppets to mimic. Graft instead offered a tour of the Factory, and seeing nothing better to do, Salem agreed to follow along. Flying into the elevator after Graft, Salem said with a huff, "Geez, Graft, don't rush me like that!" It wasn't that the doll hated to be rushed, Salem simply hated being compelled to do anything, even it it was simply being compelled to hurry up. Despite being a puppet, Salem hated dancing to anyone else's tune. But Salem knew that 'time is money' was probably an adage that Graft followed, and wasn't going to start a fight over it; pouting and sulking for a bit was enough for Salem.

@Archmage MC

Salem followed Graft, taking in the scenery, such as it was, of the Factory. However, as Graft communicated with his subordinates, something in his speech indicated something was...off, piquing Salem's interest. "Is something interesting going on?" Salem asked, fully intending to follow Graft to Production. As they were intercepted by Light, Salem greeted the Vault Keeper, "Sister Light! The Director isn't making anything for me currently, so feel free to cut in line." Salem offered, cheekily making Light's request seem more imposing than it really was.
