Appearance/Image:
Name: Noboru Maki
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Height/Weight: 5'6", 146 lbs
Personality: A young man that has a bad habit of biting off far more than he can chew, Noboru is someone who dedicates himself to tasks with 110% conviction, though that oftentimes causes more problems than he fixes. While he always means well, he is seemingly never really thinking about the consequences of his actions, and tends to rush into things without much planning if its in the heat of the moment. He puts a lot of value into his relationships with friends and family, and is eager to make new friends wherever he goes. He is also fiercely defensive of those who he views as friends, but as a result is kind of clingy.
Character Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Class Affinity: Rider
Background: When someone waves goodbye to someone, they usually expect to see that person again. And, that was the case, and still is the case for Noboru, who as a child waved goodbye to his father before he left on a flight to Europe. That would be the last time he’d ever see his father, who’s flight would go missing before landing. Comforting his grieving mother, Noboru naively said: “Its okay. Dad will come back, he promised.” at the age of 8, unthinkingly refusing to accept reality at face value. Life wasn’t fair, and neither was death...but a kid couldn’t know that. All he knew was that his dad made a promise, and good people kept promises.
To this day he never has, but Noboru has never stopped believing he’d see him again someday. He never grew out of that naivete, and never let go of that hope even as he entered high school. Working a part-time job to try and help his single mother out, he often found himself having to abstain from spending time with friends, leading to a lot of connections he had falling out as the days and weeks went by. His desire to have people rely on him, and to be needed lead him to try running for Student Council President, though he quickly found himself lacking in the necessary popularity to win. Dropping out and instead offering to fill the empty Vice-President space, Noboru finally felt like he had a place to belong...and then got to thinking about the future. When looking up at the sky one night before bed, Noboru thought to himself about what he could do after everything, and simply thought:
“Helping run Japan might be nice.”
Occupation: Student, Vice President of the Student Council
Known Magic (If Any): None
Special Talents/Hobbies:
Ambition: To become a member of the Japanese National Diet’s House of Councilors.

NP: E-EX
Noble Phantasms:
Merry Duke of Windsor; NP Rank: B Anti-City Target: 1-10 Individuals
The seed which was planted into the user’s arm springs to full bloom after ten minutes, allowing access to this Noble Phantasm. This creates a Bounded Field around the user, spanning roughly the size of the entirety of a small town, covering the area within completely with trees, bushes, thick vines, and immediately populates it with replicas of various woodland animals shaped entirely out of bark. These bark replicas are fully sentient, and respond and behave as if they were the actual animals until Herne’s user communicates with them. While within this bounded field, Herne’s rather weak nature as a Heroic Spirit gradually grows in strength, causing his parameters to rise as time passes, at roughly each gaining a letter grade for every additional ten minutes spent maintaining the Bounded Field. Each and every tree is also identical, making it an ideal place for him to plant Herne’s Oak.
Herne's Oak: Tree of the Chained Spirit; NP Rank: E~EX Anti-Self Target: 1 (Self)
A noble phantasm born of the perpetual fear that people had of the tree from which Herne's mortal body was hung. By planting one of his antlers into the ground, Herne’s user can immediately grow this tree. Tied to his life force, so long as this tree exists, Herne’s user can continually regenerate their wounds at a rapid rate, even being able to completely heal from grievous injury such as having their heart penetrated, and their limbs severed. However, should the tree be burnt or destroyed, Herne’s user will suffer immense pain, and become unable to use Herne’s Oak once again until at least 24 hours have passed. The overall speed of regeneration is also affected by the area surrounding the oak tree, as a tree grows best amidst a forest.
Chain of Herne: Binding of the Woods, Leader of the Hunt; NP Rank: C Anti-Unit Target: 1-5
The cursed chains which Herne rattles to curse cattle, and bring misfortune. While they are rather mundane as a Noble Phantasm, they do hold the ability to strike even intangible targets such as ghosts, or servants that can make themselves incorporeal.
Include: Including Herne gives the user a long, lightweight chain that bears a large amount of curses within its metal. Usually when struck by one, one would suffer from blindness, intense fatigue, a sudden fear of noise, etc.
Install: Installing Herne gives the user access to his Skills, Noble Phantasms, and causes the user to undergo the changes listed in Install Appearance.
Install Skills:
Riding C- (True Rank B-): Due to not having a noteworthy mount in life, Herne is incapable of riding a Phantasmal Beast, and is only able to ride them at a much higher skill level than a normal human would. However, with the use of “Merry Duke of Windsor”, his skills improve tremendously when riding within an area of sufficient foliage and green. When like this, it could be said that no being alive can outrun Herne’s steed within his Bounded Field.
Magic Resistance D (True Rank B): Due to being a bringer of curses and a forest spirit, Herne’s innate magic resistance is extremely high, giving resistance to even Greater Thaumaturgy. Because of a lack of mastery however, his master is left only slightly protected against magic.
Animal Dialogue C (True Rank B): The ability to communicate with animals almost perfectly, being able to relay complex instructions, explain problems, and even to give them complicated items to use with proper instructions. Ranked down, this can only get the basic idea across, however.
Divinity E- (Cannot scale lower): Due to his connection to various pagan gods in myth, Herne is granted a tiny portion of Divinity, but barely enough to matter in terms of boosting his parameters. Despite his connection to several deities, Herne was most certainly just a man in life, and died as one as well, only to become significant in his death.
Spirit of Disaster C (True Rank A): A legend of disaster is all that is told when Herne rears his head. Seen only when a great disaster was about to strike, or when a King was to meet an untimely demise, Herne is tied directly into the misfortune of others. So long as Herne is facing someone within the confines of his “Windsor” Bounded Field, their Luck Stat will drop to E- regardless of Magic Resistance. However, due to the overall lack of Mastery, it will instead only drop Luck to as low as a D.
Jack in Green B (True Rank A+++): A variant of Presence Concealment derived from one's presence in nature. So long as Herne stands within sufficient foliage in a natural environment, he is completely undetectable, even to those with Clairvoyance. It is as if he literally “becomes one with the world itself” while inside greenery larger than himself. The drawback however is that once he prepares to launch an attack, the Skill deactivates and leaves him visible once more. This is thus best used to plan an attack, rather than to launch one.
Install Appearance: When Installed, Herne forces the user to grow elk antlers, as well as replacing their ears with those of an elk as well. They gain his beige cloak and overall apparel, as well as the aforementioned chain. A seed is placed into their right hand upon Installing, which will grow into their skin painlessly, creating a layer of bark around it.
Servant Biography: A mysterious figure appearing in William Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor and various other folk tales of Berkshire, and a member of the Wild Hunt. Many versions of his story claim him to be the ghost of a forest keeper. A ghostly figure bearing antlers on his head, and riding a horse while rattling chains. His existence has been linked to various pagan figures and gods, with one of the most direct being to Cernunnos, Gaulish god of fertility.
While he did, in fact, stalk the forests of Windsor, Herne was more or less a human victim of circumstance, slaughtered in the woods by a cruel and oppressive lord who didn’t take kindly to his hunting grounds being trespassed. His spirit became a vengeful wraith, going on to lead a troop of legendary figures’ spirits to exact his revenge, before becoming incapable of separating himself from the band he had brought together in death. The Wild Hunt was his legacy, his greatest honor, and his call to be summoned to the Throne of Heroes. Lacking any special qualities, he only proved himself in death, within the confines of the forest where his body was hung.
Servant Personality: A carefree young man, Herne is the type of fighter to sit back and let the enemy wear themselves down, before finishing them off. While he himself isn’t necessarily cowardly, he despises the notion of pushing himself to his utmost to fight something. If he feels outmatched he’ll run, and if he has an advantage, he’ll utilize it to its fullest. He’s a rather agreeable type of person, often just smiling and nodding as others talk and only butting into the conversation himself if he feels like something absolutely needs to be said.
How such a dishonorable man came to become the leader of the Wild Hunt, including figures such as King Arthur is a mystery. It may simply be that, when fighting he considers all things involved with it trifling. But when it comes to the hunt, there is none amongst them more persistent, more terrifying, and more unrelenting in pursuit than him. If one becomes his quarry, he is sure to hunt them to the ends of the earth.
