Final Fantasy: Stranger in Paradise is the funniest shit I've ever seen while also not being a bad game. Just crack open some cold ones with the boys, blare Limp Bizket, and Kill Chaos.
Fio tapped a leaf to her chin, thinking about Ting and Gale's suggestions on their course of action. They were like, brokey broke. Barely had two Poke to rub together, and unlike her, the twosome needed to eat normal food to live. Gale seemed intent to visit the fortune teller at least, but...Fio knew her fortune! Luck with money!
Balling her arms up at the tips, Fio would say: "Me and Ting can handle shopping! My horoscope said luck with money, so maybe they'll have discounts! Bargains! Buy-one-get-one-or-maybe-two-free!" Fio's ideas were very...optimistic, but maybe there was a chance for some bargain or clearance sales. Maybe even some nearly-expired stuff they could find in a dumpster somewhere. Either way, she seemed convinced they'd at least find some berries for the two to eat along the way.
"A-Anyways, go and get your fortune read Gale! Its really neat, I promise," Fio said, proudly showing the fortune slip she'd gotten to the two, showing the picture of a Meowth dancing on it, coins raining down from the sky with "Luck with Money!" on it. ...It...might not even be a proper fortune, but it sure did look like one.
Her two teammates would probably have to deal with her perpetual optimism for the entire trip to Azure Orchards and back.
It's fine, we're alright over here. Just busy cleaning up stuff and, y'know, no electricity to visit RPGuild and write. I'm only using some unstable WiFi to reply.
Hope everything works out for you man! Stay safe and dry, if you can.
"Sometimes, its a lot easier solving problems with lead instead of magic."
Appearance: At a height of 5'8" with a slim build, Hector is a rather unimpressive man in terms of stature. His gray hair gives the impression of him being a lot older than he actually is, and the sullen look in his one remaining eye doesn't help that image much. Still, one can tell by the way he carries himself that he's a man of noble birth and military training.
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Age: 26
Magic Divination: Galdr, Thaumaturgy
Abilities:
Ghost Line: Rather than using Galdr to call upon fully manifested familiars, Hector prefers to keep them in a semi-solid "incomplete" state. His familiars are much weaker for it, but lack a physical form to be attacked. They can also inhabit objects, such as his gun or the bullets within to manipulate them. The only consistent familiar that he has is the one that frequently inhabits the stock of his gun: Herne, who takes the form of a transparent white snake.
Haunt: A spiritual invocation that sends one of Hector's familiar towards an enemy, "Marking" them in a way that allows him to see them so long as the spirit remains attached, or within 500 meters. Hector can also have a familiar "haunt" an area, causing a thick white fog to roll in and obscure it.
Shot Suspend: A basic order given to spirits inhabiting bullets to "hold" them in place in the air. This can result in a loss of power compared to an actual firing, but the shot's angle can also be redirected. If Hector is in a hurry, he can even force a bullet from his hand to be "suspended", but he usually only does this to ease the process of reloading his rifle.
Self Order: A bizarre Galdr spell in which the user allows a spirit to gain limited control of a body part, with Hektor most frequently using it on his arms to allow him to fire with near perfect accuracy even while running. The only part he refuses to give up his the index finger he'd use to pull the trigger, seeing as he doesn't want to risk a particularly jumpy spirit blowing away an ally by mistake.
Healing Prayer: One of the basic thaumaturgical spells that Hektor knew during his time as a medical practitioner contracted by the Church. Alleviates pain, hastens regeneration, and provides some relief from toxins and poisons in the blood. Not a very powerful healing spell, but is quick to intone.
Smite: A popular spell of the church devised for the purpose of eliminating monsters. Allows the user to attach a fair deal of magical energy to a weapon in order to deliver a devastating blow with significantly more force behind it. Hector chooses to use it to give his bullets significantly increased destructive power and shot velocity.
Ward of Morning: A protective barrier spell used to cleanse miasma in a small area while also making it painful for non-humanoid entities to be inside. While the damage inflicted by the spell is minimal, it also makes creatures of unholy origin move significantly slower. If an Apparition enters the ward's area, they will become susceptible to physical damage and other magic types.
Equipment:
Freischütz: A lovingly customized magitech lever-action rifle that was hand-assembled by Hector. The make of the rifle is top of the line, durable and sleek with each part functioning smoothly for the user. The gun itself is made to be conductive to Galdr incantations, allowing the user to summon a spirit both inside the barrel, and along it for stabilization.
Bayonet: A simple steel blade roughly four inches in length that can be used as a simple knife or attached to the end of Freischütz.
Brief Background: As the third son of a noble house, prospects were limited for the youngest boy of the house Wyland. Situated in Flugell and having an opportunity to join the nation's armed forces to earn distinction, Hector was a typical Noble Licsuhianist that thought the world of his own skills and entrusted the usage of magic to be fully in the church's purview. Receiving training as a field doctor as well as an infantryman, Hector's prospective military would be cut short, along with the lives of his brothers in arms. The camp position was supposed to be clear of miasma, but the apparitions within had wandered far from their toxic hovels in search of prey.
Its an odd feeling, having a transparent claw slice through your eye. That was, at the only injury Hector sustained from the apparitions that tore his comrades to pieces before he was sent hurtling over a nearby cliff while trying to dodge a second swipe, plummeting into a river. Through sheer dumb luck he had survived, being found by a downstream Fae community deeper within the woods. There his wound was tended, the worst outcome of corruption being avoided thanks to a skilled thaumaturge. Burning with shame and a desire to exterminate blight, he'd forsake the church's beliefs on magic to learn from the Fae in the village...albeit, as one can tell from the state of his familiars, he doesn't have a very high aptitude for magic usage. In spite of this, he's sought out the Tower to become a Reaver to hunt down menaces to the world. After all...his life had to have been saved for a reason.
Anything else we should know about you: While there is still a bit of the "nobleman pomp" in Hector, he's not so proud as to think he's better than those around him anymore.
While he does have a basic healing spell at his disposal, Hector's medical expertise means that he can aid the injured without magic if need be.
Name: Morgan Laplace
"This world is simultaneously complex and simple. Rudimentary forces of nature following advanced principles without knowing it, the golden ratio followed by reflex alone...and we humanoids stand at the pinnacle of reason. We alone can see the world for everything it is."
Appearance: A scholar and bookish sort by nature, Morgan is far from physically imposing, standing at 5'4" and possessing twiggy limbs and a pale complexion. The most stand-out trait of this blue-haired woman has to be her piercing cyan eyes that seem to devour everything they see, deconstructing it, breaking it down, reassembling it, and then finding something new to dismantle in her mind.
Race: Human
Sex: Female
Age: 22
Magic Divination: Esperism, Void
Abilities:
Probe-Mind: Espermancy as a practice is famous for allowing one to read minds, and Morgan is no stranger to it. However, rather than peering at the explicit words one says, she instead tunes into latent emotions and changes in one's brain. After all, you can just THINK of something else to counter a mindreader, but one couldn't hide how they felt in the recesses of their mind. In battle, this is used to gauge enemy intention.
Over-Clock: The magic of the mind isn't just for peeking or influencing others. A dangerous spell that accelerates neural pathways in one's own mind, allowing them to access parts of their brain that were previously unused, recall virtually anything they know, and to accelerate their brain's processing speed far beyond its normal limitations. When using Over-Clock, Morgan obtains a reaction speed outstripping any living human, with the drawback of extreme mental fatigue occuring after sixty seconds of usage. After which...well...it isn't exactly dignified to see a genius spouting gibberish, so she tries to avoid using it for long periods of time.
While Over-Clock is powerful, it is worth noting that Morgan can still only move as quickly as she normally could. The only thing moving faster are her thoughts.
Lunatic-High: Utilizing Over-Clock on another person is virtually impossible, due to how different everyone's brain is structured...but a watered down version is certainly possible. A diluted version of Over-Clock that can be used on others to greatly enhance their mental acuity for a small period of time, only having a small fraction of the mental fatigue that Morgan would suffer using the full thing.
Strange-World: An inverse of virtually all espermancy principles, this spell functions much like telepathy, but as an offensive stream of concentrated thoughts meant to hinder the opponent. Trivial gibberish, theorems that would take years to understand, the names of specific strange body parts of fish found thousands of meters beneath the sea...
...Morgan certainly knows a lot of things, not all of them useful. She doesn't mind sharing. Aggressively.
Mind-Palace: An illusion that manifests the inner workings of one's mind. Almost impossible to utilize in combat due to its exhaustive cost, but does allow the caster to capture a glimpse into someone's past, manifesting a room of memory that forms around the environment.
Star-Step: Utilizing void magic's manipulation over space, Morgan quickly accelerates in a straight line and leaves a streak of void energy on the ground that, while it remains present and undisturbed, allows her to instantly teleport back to the initial position regardless of where she is within a 200' radius. Only one Star-Step field can be active at a time, and creating a new one will erase the older one.
Cosmic-Force: A singular black ball of energy that can either gravitate objects towards it, or away from it, at a gradual rate that decreases as it influences larger objects. Fairly brittle, and isn't used as direct offense.
Banished-Comet: The most directly offensive spell that Morgan has, that condenses inorganic matter down into a cubic foot and then launches it at high speeds, repulsed by void energy. Essentially, a very fast rock.
Black-Hole: All magic is formed of energy, that passes through the world, to people, then back into the world. Each spell, a unique mechanism to channel that force, with all Magi having their own unique ways of doing so. Black-Hole can only be used when Morgan fully grasps the mechanics of someone's spell, to the extent that she could cast it herself with relevant training. Black-Hole will then "rob" the target of that spell for as long as Morgan keeps focus on it, gaining an orb of energy that can "cheat" its way into casting the spell for her using her own energy.
Once the spell has been robbed, the original user loses all ability to cast it until Black-Hole is undone or destroyed.
Equipment:
Silvered Pointer: A silver alloy cane that used to belong to the prior Laplace...or perhaps, even the one before him. A straight-handled cane that hides a rapier within, the blade being of exceptional make. It has been well-cared for, even after being passed down. The body of the cane reads: "Je n'avais pas besoin de cette hypothèse-là," and Morgan can often be seen carrying it underneath one arm with her always.
Polymathis Ensemble: A sharp suit that is often customized to the owner's liking, each name-bearing member of Polymathis is afforded a wardrobe. Yes, this does in fact mean Morgan only wears one outfit. Her's are kept close to the standard, with the exception being a silver boutonniere affixed over her tie.
Brief Background: Some are born with everything, while more still are born with nothing. Born in the slums of Morgenröte's backstreets, Morgan was the typical orphan sob story one could expect. No parents to speak of, picked on for her size, and always uncertain of when her next meal would be come.
She couldn't remember how it came to pass, but one day she found herself in an alleyway, playing a game of some kind against a man wearing an iron mask. His movements were minimal, his breath wheezing, but Morgan understood as soon as she touched one of the game pieces that something important was on the line. A best of three match, with the first game spent with Morgan losing completely and utterly, her lack of understanding of the rules leading to a sudden defeat. After manipulating her pieces in the second game in an unexpected way, she just barely eked out a victory, one of the two needed for her life to change.
Outraged, the man began to play in earnest, trumping each of Morgan's amateur strategies, taking piece after piece and dwindling away at Morgan's resources. It was a hopeless situation, one that many would call as simple as "a child just can't beat an adult." And yet, an orphaned child born in a bad environment understood one thing very clearly:
If the odds were against you, even them.
A coughing fit overtook the man as he wheezed, the deft hand of a child gliding across the board to snatch a meaningless piece in the backline of the iron man's formation. She'd cheated. Right under the nose of the man who would become her grandfather, Morgan would open a seemingly meaningless gap that would lead to that man's defeat in two more turns.
No child was as sly as they thought, however. Of course an adult would notice a little game of sleight of hand, baited by a coughing fit. And of course, it was the perfect test for the future Laplace, as one who created an opportunity from nothing even if it meant risking everything. Morgan would be lead to a grand library afterward, her reward for victory being indoctrination, education, salvation, and experimentation. The limits of what a mind could store were stretched to their limit each day, grueling study taking place of a childhood, with many other children who had passed similar tests soon failing and being expelled from the halls. And yet, in the heart of Morgan...
There was nothing but elation.
Here, she was superior. Here, she was powerful. Here, she wasn't weaker or jealous, hungry or cold, here, and only here, something other than birth and strength mattered. Of course, magic was part of the curriculum, and children were often compelled to compete against one another in contests of direct magical combat. Morgan would often win her duels days in advance, watching her opposition practice in order to learn every facet of their skillset, and counter it at every opportunity.
At the age of 16 Morgan would accept the last name of the scholar that had brought her in, Laplace the Mécanique Céleste. It was only after passing their tests that she was deemed worthy of knowing of her home's identity, the Polymathis, a society of recluse magus that believed that potential should be sought everywhere, in the name of all geniuses that died in silence. Bearing the weight of a genius' legacy, as well as the prestige of Polymathis with her, she would travel the world in search of long-forgotten knowledge, study the stars above her, and harness her magic to the utmost until a flight of fancy struck her.
"I may see something interesting if I go."
"...Besides, I'm never afforded wiggleroom in my research budget. Detestable as it is, I'll have to work for money."
Anything else we should know about you: Morgan is a huge fan of sweets, indulging in them at any chance she can when offered, and is easily bribed. "Tutoring, private lessons, proofreading...if you promise me enough sugary delights, I'd even take you into Polymathis myself!"
@Crowvette,@Rezod92 Well...a fairy wasn't one to turn down an invitation to socialize, so Lilianna would follow the forming group of monsters, just in time to see Takeshi return. Well, "return" as in "I have no idea who he is because I never met him personally but he's kinda handsome and on a white horse". Seeing as the conversation over there had fewer members, and they looked a bit frazzled from their journey back, Lilianna would float over and see what help she could offer.
Without the chance to hear Kerry question on whether "the fuckening" happened, Lilianna was blissfully unaware for the moment before she drew her sword. "You two look a bit roughed up, so here! Sword, please be nice..." Thankfully, Greater Healing activated, shrouding the human and Mad Hatter in a pale green light that would close any wounds, and alleviate any aches. Floating a tad closer, Lilianna said: "There, now you're both oooo-" before the scent hit her.
All six of her braincells were firing on all cylinders, the fairy's face turning beet red before she slowly floated back, fidgeting as she floated by Kerry. "O-Oh wow...haven't smelt that in months. You two should probably wash up, yeah? Healing can't uh...can't fix that." Trainee days were flashing before Liliana's mind, remembering the days her fairy fellows would wander off to find themselves a man lost in the woods, have some fun, and then send him home. ...The perky pinklette had gotten stuck with sword polishing duty each time, and not the exciting kind.
Even if Lilianna was dumb, she knew that people that generally feared "yokai" would absolutely turn on someone who'd mated with one. As such, Lilianna would lean a bit towards Kerry and whisper: "Are there any streams or baths we can dunk them in real quick? I'd use my sword's magic but its just as likely to shoot magma at them than water."
Eula
@AzureKnight Eula would look at her hand as Shizuka talked about right and wrong, slowly closing and then unfurling her fingers. "...Thank you, Shizuka. This unit is unequipped to deal with human moral quandaries. When this is over, we will apprehend her. Perhaps, bringing back one of the bandits could corroborate our story,"
Just as she finished speaking however, cannonfire rang out. She would use her good arm to try and shield Shizuka, but it wasn't directed at them. Rather, it had dispelled the fog that had covered their approach, the leader emerging and challenging the two. They hadn't even gotten a chance to eliminate more than a few of the bandits before this...and now, he was aiming right at them! Eula didn't doubt that Shizuka was fast enough to dodge the incoming cannonball, but she was running numbers in her head.
She would stand still, and extend her hand just in time to "catch" the cannonball, using the force of the shot to spin herself. Once, twice, a leg raised, and a perfect pitcher's pose before Eula threw the cannonball right back at the tengu-masked leader. It would slam into his chestplate with immense force. Not as much as the initial shot, but it was like getting hit in the chest with a mace. Eula knew they wouldn't surrender with words alone. She would brandish her arm and begin firing stun arrows while backpedaling, attempting to incapacitate the swordsmen while Shizuka found a way to slip behind, or break through.

Sorry to pop in unannounced, but my schedule cleared up a bit!
"Its super good!" Fio asserted, sipping up the last of it as she said that. She looked back to the table where she got it and saw...it was all gone. That made her a little sad...if she'd have waited just a couple seconds on slurping it all up, she could have shared with Gale. "U-Uh...I promise I'll get you some too next time!"
With food time over, it was now time to enter Kick's office and get their first jobs! After disposing of her cup and making sure she was presentable, Fio would stroll in with the others to present themselves to Kick. With the Blaziken explaining in very kind terms that they'd get absolutely destroyed if they went after evil clutchers on grand adventures, Fio was eager to hear what they'd actually be doing. Even if he was strong and fearsome looking, the big bird seemed to choose his words very carefully. Perhaps he was afraid of scaring them all off on the first job?
With the talk of representation and seriousness, Fio wondered if maybe she should try and look more serious. The Fomantis would have to give making serious stares at the mirror later, but figured that for now she could still be herself. When Kick explained what needed doing and handed over the badges and bandannas, she looked beside herself with happiness, eyes sparkling as the little Fomantis hurriedly tied her new red bandana in place of the green scarf she'd been wearing, right under the white foliage atop her head. She'd keep the green one in her bag for later and would say: "Thank you very much Mr. Kick! We won't let you down!"
Fio didn't have any pressing questions and would exit with the others once they were ready. At the mention of getting their fortunes told, Fio looked a bit smug as she proudly said: "I got mine told before we got initiated today, actually! Well, I mean, horoscopes are different from fortunes but...it said I'd have great luck with money today, so I'm more than ready to do some shopping. Maybe we'll get a bargain on food or something! Ooh, or maybe that one dumpster I hid in still has that half-eaten apple..." Fio sort of trailed off at the end there, but would pull out her wallet, taking out the single-digit amount of money she had. "Um...a-at least we should be able to get you two some food! I can just have water and sunshine, and I'll be good to go all-day long!" Fio asserted that she'd be fine without food, which...given her lack of a mouth, might very well be the case.
@Crowvette,@Restalaan(SKA) "H-Hey, one of me is plenty! Lilianna said while pouting at Skarsneek's teasing. She was, as goblins might say: An easy mark. She had all the pride of a knight with the childishness of a fairy, resulting in her being incredibly gullible and easy to mess with. "N-No way the valkyries would go after Io...she's way too nice! And pink! Pink is justice!
Liliana did get a touch pale though as Io snapped her grimoire shut and said it divorced people in a sense."I-It can divorce their eyes!? Or...maybe noses?" the fairy asked, astonished at how terrifyingly powerful her new wizarding friend was. Could she...even...divorce taste? Make it so you can't taste sweets anymore? Liliana gulped, making a mental note to never cross her wizardy pal with pranks gone too far. In fact, she may not even try to play small pranks at all on her. The last thing she wanted was to never taste fruit again!
"Can't say I've seen either of those two...but I feel like it'd be hard to miss a spider lady at least. Maybe she's on a..." Liliana suddenly flipped upside-down, flying with her back to the ground as she hovered and looked at the ceiling. "Ceiling somewhere? Not this one at least...does she like ceilings? I'd think spiders would..." After confirming there were no spider ladies up on the ceiling, Liliana righted herself. "I hope you find them though. As for me...I should probably stop bugging Io and go find some baddies that need beating or people that need saving."
Eula
@AzureKnight With the duo making haste to track down the bandits, the two would be able to find the tracks while they were fresh. With their base located and some information gathered, Eula would see it prudent to hold off on their assault until they had a concrete plan. There were far more bandits than there had been, at least a dozen, and a hail of stun blasts from Eula could only deter them so much before a few retaliated...and would likely notice that she was only capable of using one arm. The ambush tactic from earlier likely wouldn't work either, given that it was now against far greater, perhaps hardened bandits.
And then there was the troubling murmurs they overheard from guards on patrol. The mention of a slain family, a female, and bandits...Eula didn't like the thought formulating in her mind. Had they been set up to slaughter bandits for the woman that told them about them? ...It didn't especially matter in terms of dealing with the bandits. They were a threat that needed to be routed right away. But they may be doing the bidding of a murderer in doing so. "Shizuka, a question," the automaton started before continuing with: "Are human beings capable of killing their own flesh and blood for love of another? And, should said human being capable of such acts then be rejected by that love...would they then be capable of deceiving others into getting revenge for them?"
Eula would hold her damaged arm with her remaining one, idly looking down at her palm, covered by the dangling sheet. "...The woman who told me of the bandits said she lost her family to them. But here, bandits claim a woman slaughtered her family for their leader. ...My programming is at odds. This unit isn't capable of arbitrating what is and isn't moral, so I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on the matter."
Thankfully from their hiding spot, they could likely speak for a bit before their assault. Eula's heart was wavering, not on the battle, but as to whether this was truly righteous to be doing. It felt...dirty to her, somehow.
With the girls off to the Bubbling Cauldron, it was only a matter of time before their loot could be identified and catalogued. Alice would handle the inventory, given that Sofia was painfully aware of how unlucky she could be...especially after tripping just after they came out of the guild building.
"Alright, so we definitely know the cane has magic, the robe is magic, and...maybe the belt and ring. The dress however, that was probably just there for whatever weird corpse stuff he was doing," Alice explained, getting their loot ready. Sofia would interject with: "I'd very much like to keep the monocle if possible. I feel it completes my elegant ensemble."
The aged man at the counter would get out a scrying glass and make his appraisals and offers for their gear. Magic items in general were a rather rare sort in small humdump bumpkin towns, but here there was even a magic shop. So, hopefully, they could get some coin, haggle, or just get them identified as useful.
The gnome's robe was enchanted with a permanent cleaning enchantment. While practical, it basically meant it was little better than an average robe of mundane make. Very Low Copper sale value.
The dagger was enchanted with Bane of Living, making it more effective against living targets. While that was very broad and applicable, it wasn't a very strong enchantment. It basically meant the knife hurt a lot more than normal. Normal Silver sale value.
The monocle as it turned out was capable of using a zooming function, enhancing the user's eyesight temporarily to see great distances. Low Copper sale value.
The gold ring encrusted with onyx was identified as being of dwarven make, with a minor protective charm on it that shielded the user from a small bit of damage. Normal Silver sale value.
The belt had proven rather interesting, since it was enchanted with "Ghostly Step", a usable spell that allowed the user to become intangible for a minute once per day. Definitely the most valuable find. Low Gold sale value.
The staff was identified as shooting magic missiles for free if the user knew how...which, sadly, our group of heroes had no clue how to magically missile folks. Just beat them over the head and shoot them. High Copper sale value.
The group was free to take the generous offers for any of the items in question, with Alice and Sofia agreeing that the staff and robe were mildly useless to them all. "What do you think, Brandy? Any of the items that you want to use yourself," Alice asked while her tail slowly wagged behind her. It was kind of impressive that they had found a decently good item from Vreznok's loot...and even more impressive that the gnome had been caught so unaware he couldn't use that fancy belt.
Fio didn't have much reason to not bounce behind Gale as he walked, joining him in greeting Ting at the omelets table. Or rather, former omelets table since there were only a couple left. Thankfully, she was content to keep on sipping her last juice, carried like a little treasure with her leaves curled around it. She drank really fast, but that was mostly because she kind of just...lived off liquids and sunshine.
"Hi!" Fio happily greeted Ting in the exact same way she greeted Gale, sipping on some juice right after. "Ooh, I like sweet things. If you ever don't want the ones you have, you can give them to me," she'd happily exclaim after hearing of Ting's dislike of sweets. Gale seemed like the sweet-loving type, so...maybe her and Gale could share! Regardless, Fio would take a seat across from Ting, happily kicking her little stubby legs to and fro as she finished her last drink.
When the time came to discussing what they hoped their first guild assignment would be, Fio's eyes somehow got wider at the prospect. "Ooh, maybe we'll go and save some people from sacks!" ...She seemed really hung up on that as an act of heroism. But she also wouldn't mind delivering things like Ting was hoping. "Or maybe we'll go beat up some bad Pokemon...but...that might be a bit scary," she said, quivering a bit. She seemed to be stuck remembering something scary.
