Matsushima Mitsuko

...this, uh.

This had gotten a bit out of hand, hadn't it?

Mitsuko had only intended on the introductions taking the better part of a couple of minutes, and then getting into the meat of the meeting, but it seemed that she had underestimated her new club members' collective propensity for small talk. Truly, the bane of her existence. She had to wrest back control over the meeting from these banal conversations, before it progressed any further into a force she no longer had any sway over.

Well that, and because she didn't have this room booked for very long. Mainly that one, honestly.

"Ahem." She coughed sharply in an attempt to get the attention of everyone else, striding over to her backpack and pulling out a thick stack of papers that she then set down on a desk near the front of the classroom. "Now then, since you all have gotten acquainted in some regard, let's discuss the club, shall we?" She spoke up, not able to disguise the tint of irritation that now laced her tone. After leveling this out, she continued. "The purpose of this club is twofold. The first is to discuss matters of the occult, whether they be theories one has, experiences one has had, or otherwise. However, this discussion is meant to be grounded in rationality and fact. I assure you that this being an occult club does not mean that we will disregard science or perpetuate baseless theories. Conjecture and theory are fine and are welcome, but throwing baseless ideas at a wall to see what sticks is not."

"The second purpose of this club is one that I am sure will help the skeptics of this room: interaction with the occult. I do not expect many of you to simply take me at my word when I assert the existence of ghosts, nor should you. At the same time, it's only reasonable for this club to have some actual hands-on interaction with our subject matter. The Halloween Extravaganza will be our first of such experiences, in which we will enter the school after-hours. I've been monitoring spiritual output, and have good reason to believe that a very weak ghost, in other words a soul lacking a proper container, will be capable of some minor physical manifestation on that night; this shouldn't be anything more than being able to see and converse with it, though, so do not worry. Make sure that you take a waiver, and either that your parents or yourself if you're eighteen sign it and get it to me at or prior to the event." She said, gesturing to the stack of papers.

"Now then, since I've explained the basics, are there any questions?"
@XxLyraxX
Sure, with the caveat that said NPC doesn't actually participate (because I really don't want to make extra work for myself unless needed). Alternatively you could have her be Mitsuko's friend, I suppose.
@Cherrywitch
A bit more work on the biography and what brought them to the occult club would be heavily appreciated. I'm a bit iffy on the twin angle, but I'm trusting you, so please don't make me regret that choice.
Apologies for the absence, all. Work got a bit crazy. I let Sonata know that she doesn't have to worry about posting since I mainly just hired her for logistics. Expect a post up soon, after I look at the newest app.

@XxLyraxX
Mm, I suppose so, though I'll be closing applications with you.
I would like to join, but I have a question: Since the GM's character has a supernatural ability, would it be alright for my character to have one as well?

This skill can incidentally also be known under the moniker of "Duct Tape Ownership".

I wasn't aware that it was supernatural to own duct tape.

"Report, what's going on over there?!"

You are a child of Man. As such, you know tragedy.

The tragedy of killing one's child.
The tragedy of being killed by one's child.
The tragedy of not knowing one's family.
The tragedy of abandoning one's family.

"I can't...something's wrong, the energy's accumulating too fast! We can't contain it!"

The tragedy of lamenting treachery.
The tragedy of living in treachery.
The tragedy of losing fortune.
The tragedy of being killed by fortune.

"Safeguards one through fourteen are down! Even the storage container's starting to approach its limit!"

The tragedy of not knowing of love.
The tragedy of mocking love.
The tragedy of seeking success.
The tragedy of loathing success.
The tragedy of protecting faith.
The tragedy of despising faith.

"Hurry, just cut the connection! We can't let an overflow happen!"

Rebellion, intimidation, adultery, destruction, coercion, theft, desertion, slander, arson, mockery, disrespect, discord, abduction, bribery, abortion, suicide, gambling, mobbing, abandonment, kidnapping, violence, living. It hurts, it hurts, it hurts. And yet, I cannot help but feel indifferent in its face. As my body rots, as my soul breaks, as that "everything" I hold so dear crumbles to naught, I cannot but help but ask if it mattered to begin with.

"It's not responding, the process is continuing on its own! Emergency evacuation, now! We need to get out of he-"

Do not curse your enemy, for he would not wish this upon you.
Do not curse yourself, for you were too myopic to realize this truth.
Do not curse your world, for it is merely a mindless system following destiny.
Do not curse your God, for it understands reality in a way you cannot.
Do not curse the Other, for it does not know the meaning of what you call tragedy.
Then, what shall you curse?

"What...What the hell is that?"

It is simple.

Curse the fact that you have nothing to curse. And bellowing this curse until your lungs give out, you will be whisked away into the night.

Matsushima Mitsuko

Classroom 2-A, Yurei High School

With a raised eyebrow, a steel-faced young girl looked out over the gathered individuals. Frankly, the sheer number of people who had elected to come to this first meeting was...surprising. She had expected no more than three or four prospective members.

Maybe the promise of free snacks was that enticing? She'd have to note this for later...

After checking the clock mounted on the classroom wall to confirm the time, the young girl walked over to the propped-open classroom door and slammed it shut with a resounding thud, subsequently clearing her throat firmly to disrupt the chatter of those inside of the classroom as she walked up towards the board at the front of the classroom, where a teacher would be standing during a lecture. Once everyone had quieted themselves, she spoke.

"Good afternoon, everyone. For those of you I have not met previously, I am Matsushima Mitsuko. It is my pleasure to welcome all of you to the first meeting of the newly-refounded Occult Club. Feel free to take a brownie and a bottle of water, if you're so inclined." She stated, gesturing to a corner table on which a sizable tupperware container of brownies and a case of water bottles sat.

Speaking up in a crisp tone, the girl, Mitsuko, addressed her peers with a straight face, though one might notice the trace of a smile playing across the edges of her lips. She had to admit that she was rather satisfied with this turnout, even if the majority of those here were probably present to make a mockery of her organization.

"Now then, today's meeting agenda is to become acquainted with one another, to discuss preliminary matters pertaining to the occult, and to discuss the theme of this year's Halloween Extravaganza. I will be distributing waivers for those who are interested in that at the end of the meeting."

"Let's begin. Would anyone like to introduce themselves? Name, year, what brought you here. If you'd like to provide a 'fun fact' or something of that ilk, then feel free so long as it doesn't take several minutes to say."

Typos, misspellings, anything you find not to your liking!? Tell me and I'll happily see what I can do! <(^•^)>
@Three

I'm gonna assume by "photogenic memory" you meant "photographic", which is fine but don't go overboard with it. Approved.

IC will be up shortly. Apologies for the absence, alcohol decided to get in the way last night.
Does anyone know when we're beginning the IC?

On account of my schedule, we'll be holding off on starting until Friday. Apologies for the delay, all.

@Moonlit Sonata
Added some more to her personality. Would that suffice?

Looks fine to me, so I'll approve this one.

Could I join!? ^•^

Feel free. I'll be capping applications soon, though.

I kinda rushed the last part of the application, so if anything needs to be rewritten, please tell me!
Anyway, I hope you guys like him...

pls protect my smol son.

Approved.
@Three
You can make non-student characters?

As long as there's some rationale for their involvement with the Occult Club, yes.

Tonight's a bit packed for me, so I'll be letting Sonata handle character approvals for a spell.
Looks good, but a question: what kinds of conflict may occur in this? Like social, directly combative, indirect etc.

If you want to punch a student, punch a student, but you'll probably get in trouble.

If you want to gossip about a student, feel free, but you're kinda mean then.

If you want to punch a ghost, I mean, you might want to do more research since punching's usually ineffective against ghosts.

Basically, any sort of "conflict" is allowed, but will be subject to reason. The main source that I'll be providing will be PvE with regards to ghosts, but of course, not every ghost should be called an "enemy".
