Bio
Aurus was born into a rich family deeply embroiled in sorcery and it's secretive society. This societey highly prioritizes talent and innate power, as only those who exemplify the strength of their bloodline can have the chance to rise up and represent their families, possibly even becoming a member of the Council of Elders, effectively the government of sorcerers.
Aurus was born with extremely weak magical ability, making him effectively crippled. His father saw him as a disgrace, and ignored Aurus almost completely. When Aurus was around 5, his parents split. His father took Aurus' two brothers with him, leaving Aurus' mother with the problem child.
Aurus spent his years in relative comfort, constantly cursing his father's name, and the very concept of sorcery that seemed to so heavily control and shape the lives of Aurus and his family. As he got older, he mellowed out, becoming determined to show those around him that one could thrive simply off of time and effort, without relying on innate talents or magic. Despite this goal, he still allowed his mother to teach him about magic.
The boy made his way through schooling, and found himself in a position at his father's company, NelTech. He spent roughly 4 years working tirelessly, climbing the ranks, eventually getting himself a spot on the company's board of directors.
Aurus' goal with all of this was simply to get his father to notice him, to care that he existed. Just because Aurus wasn't born with talent didn't mean he couldn't develop it. So, after roughly 19 years, Aurus had finely entered back into his father's life. He stayed working on the board for about a year before he felt that his life had become stationary and boring.
He asked his father if there was some way for him have a more mobile job. Aurus' father decided to have Aurus travel around and check on the different branches of NelTech, a job that he would generally do himself, so that Aurus would be able to conduct his search. Aurus was suprised that his father allowed this, guessing that he might finally have started feeling sorry for keeping Aurus out of his life for so long.
Aurus really just wanted to get away from the work which had become empty and monotonous to him. Aurus had begun to feel that everything he had worked so hard to gain had become pointless. There was no goal, no reason to continue on. It was a good, well paying job, but it was dull, and without any interesting and exciting things happening in his life, Aurus kind of felt lost. He thought that maybe, just maybe, this new position would allow him to regain some part of his previous drive and happiness.
When Aurus got off the plane at the first city of his new assignment, he found that his father had an extra clause that he forgot to mention, Aurus would have to deal with Arna, his new assistant and secretary, who just so happened to be a sorceress herself. She informed Aurus of all of his new duties, dealing both with NelTech, and the politics of the Sorcery World, which he was now apparently supposed to deal with.
You would think that being a sorcerer, and being able to cast spells and whatnot would be great and fun, but in reality, it's just a lot of political nonsense and in-fighting. Aurus job in the world of Sorcery was to hype up his father, support his ideas, and relay any new information to his father, which mostly meant a good bit of paperwork. On the surface, Aurus was simply an executive for NelTech who went around and inspected the status of the different branches all around the world.
He has been doing this for the past year, and it has definitely been a lot more interesting than sitting at a table with a bunch of grumpy old fools. At times, Aurus had wished that this could go on forever, traveling to new places, doing interesting things, meeting odd people. Though, Aurus knows that this wouldn't last forever. He had already started to feel tired of constantly flying, becoming exhausted with the everchaning scenery. Every once in a while, Aurus' mind flutters back to the name and date on his wrist. He waits for that date to come, as if it somehow might hold the key to Aurus' happiness.
Occupation Aurus works for his father's company, NelTech. He currently travels around the world, checking up on the multiple branches of NelTech.
Country of Origin United States of America
Feelings about meeting their soul mate Aurus feels that his happiness might completely rely on meeting them. He needs a reason to keep moving, to go forward, and if this soulmate is supposed to be the perfect person for him, then there is no better reason to continue on.
Arna was the daughter of a succesful politician and a Sorceress. Her early life was the sort of fantastical childhood that most only imagined. Her family was well off, her parents were happy, and she was decent with magic. Of course, happiness never lasts forever, does it?
After Arna's 12th birthday, her father had begun to seem contsantly tired, irratable, and unhappy. She thought it was her fault for a while, but when she found out the truth, it was much, much worse. She overheard her parents talking one night.
"I just don't think I can keep this up. Emily, I'm sorry to do this to you and Arna. Goodbye." Her father had gotten sick of his job, had quit months prior, and didn't want to stay around his family as a waste of space. Instead, he left them for dead, with large debts that they had previously not know about.
Arna's mother worked in sorcery politics, her exact position being a mystery to Arna. Even though she earned a decent living with this job, they struggled with paying off debts left by her father. Someone as worthless as her father deserved to die. Arna's mother was forced to work a second job to help cut down the debt. Their life went from luxurious and tranquil, to living modestly.
After Arna turned 15, she started job hunting. She wanted to take a load off of the shoulders of her overworked mother. She found herself losing sleep, all of her time split between working after school until late, and attempting to have good grades. She felt that the only way to fix everything was through maximum effort and hard work. She, of course, felt like giving up at times, giving herself a break, but she knew that if she did, she would never succeed. Failure was not an option for Arna.
By the age of 20, her hard work had payed off. She and her mother had cleared the debt, finally. Her mother moved to New york, to be near some relatives, while Arna stayed in London. She had eventually found herself working at NelTech, as the secretary to the head of the company, Valus Nel, who had also happened to be a sorcerer. She enjoyed the position, putting the same amount of effort into her work as she had for years.
She stayed in that position for 2 years, working with Valus on company affairs, as well as events involving sorcery politics. She was asked to work with Valus Nel's son, Aurus, as his assistant. She was informed that Aurus would be traveling to each branch of NelTech, inspecting the productivity of each branch, as well as helping to imrpove Valus' political standing in the world of sorcery. She was rather excited, being able to travel the world and live well sounded pretty nice. She quickly took the offer.
Of course, Aurus turned out to be her least favorite kind of person. Aurus was someone who got where he was through sheer luck, obviously. He had no determination, and seemed whiny and lazy all of the time. They didn't really like each other, and that really didn't matter. Their relationship was strictly professional. Arna set up meetings, and Aurus went to them. Aurus filled out paperwork, and Arna filed it. Arna obviously had the easier job. She kind of felt bad for Aurus at times. He seemed like a lost dog looking for somewhere to go so often.
Of course, Aurus still exemplified everything that wen't against Arna' s principles, and he was somehow succesful. The last year or so of working with Aurus has exhausted Arna, but she still found it enjoyable, somehow. All she wants to do is move forward, and work towards the future, maybe find herself a nice guy, someone who actually had a work ethic, unlike Aurus or her father. Honestly, she wasn't exactly sure what she wanted out of the future, all she knew was that she wanted to see what was in store for her.
Now, Aurus and Arna have convinced the company to allow the both of them to go on vacation to New York City for a week. Arna left her companion at his hotel, deciding to stay with her mother for the week, since she lives in New York.
Occupation Secretary and assistant of Aurus V. Nel.
Country of Origin England
Feelings about meeting their soul mate Arna is optimistic about her soulmate, though she still worries about what he might be like every once in a while. She tries to keep her mind off of this sort of thing, and just waits for it to come.
