2 DAYS BEFORE THE CHUUNIN EXAMS

The Land of Fire was a big country that became even bigger after all that happened during the Bijuu Crisis. Thus, it is no wonder that it took a relatively long time to travel from Kyokujitsu to Kyūseishu, where the Chuunin Exams were held. What is more, when tasked with the transportation and protection of the Sankage herself to the neutral territory, you ought to be even more careful while traveling. Basically, your journey is bound to be a long one.

The transportation of the Kage could be seen as an S-rank mission, and a team of experienced jonin would have to be gathered. This meant that newly advanced jonin would not be allowed on the team, and neither outsiders would. 

Thus, it is no wonder that Fujita Kaimu was surprised when he first got notified that he was assigned a spot on the team. Although technically being a jonin of Kyokujitsugakure, his status as an Emissary of Harugakure meant that he was almost never assigned missions of very high importance, due to Harugakure and the Land of Spring being under the banner of the Land of Earth.

Being an Emissary meant helping foster good relations between your country and the country you are sent to, and Kaimu had done just that at the start. However, his efforts seemed to do nothing other than retaining what neutral disposition Kyokujitsu had of his country. Over the passage of time, seeing his efforts bearing no fruit, he stopped trying. It had become apparent to him that a mere shinobi could not hope to influence the diplomatic relations of two countries, especially when it comes to big countries such as Kyokujitsu.

As he kept on reading the scroll with his orders, however, his excitement was wiped out in an instant.

You are to set off right away, travel to Kyūseishu on your own on a scout mission. Every 6 hours use this scroll and report back to the main team.

PRESENT DAY

Kaimu walked among the food stands, searching for delicacies to accompany his home-brewed drink. The Chuunin Exams was a big event, and people from all over the world came to Kyuuseishi to watch. Par for the course, wherever there are festivities, one can find merchants trying to make a name for themselves and their products. Especially with the nature of the Chuunin Exams that encouraged competition, everyone was in high spirits.

"Oh! This takoyaki looks delicious!" Kaimu exclaimed, his attention fully centered on the plate in front of him. He grabbed his gourd, pulled the cork out with a pop, and dug in with fervor. In the background, an announcement echoed out, calling for the three Kage to gather, and encouraging everyone else to enjoy themselves. A satisfied expression appeared on Kaimu's face as he washed down the fried octopus with a swig of sake.

  H I S T O R Y  
The Land of Spring, formerly known as the Land of Snow by the world, went through a defining transformation following the years after the ascension of Koyuki Kazahana, the exiled daughter of the Kazahana Clan, to the position of daimyō. With her leading the country, research and development of new heating techniques enabled the country to finally rid itself of its icy shackles. Giant heating devices were installed all around the country and in a few year's time, the snow that had once been covering the country disappeared, now only ever seen on mountaintops or very remote areas in the north of the country.

Concurrent with the weather changes, Yukigakure, the country's hidden ninja village, saw major changes to its political structure and organization. First of all, the name of the village was changed to Harugakure, so as to reflect the change in the name of the country. Further changes were made to the leading figures of the village, such as the ascension of a new Harukage, and a new Council of Elders. These people brought with them new ideas and a different philosophy when it comes to interacting with other hidden villages. Emissaries were sent to several other villages in order to foster good relations and potentially form alliances. This turned out to be a good move, as the Land of Spring's relative technological superiority to the rest of the countries gave it an edge, and posed as a reason for them to form an alliance with the Land of Spring and Harugakure.

In the period after the Demon Wars, the Land of Spring experienced a mass surge of people migrating into the country, a direct consequence of the war. Coming from the mainland (namely the Land of Fire, Land of Earth, Land of Grass, Rain, etc.) these people integrated easily into the Land of Spring, and caused it to flourish even further. During the hundreds of years after the end of the Demon Wars and until the present day, the Land of Spring rose from its former position of irrelevance to the affairs of the world, to a country that could stand side by side with political behemoths such as the Land of Fire and Land of Earth. The Land's trade routes extended to major ports in the Lands of Lightning and Earth, making the Land of Spring a key piece in the trade relations between these two countries.

Unfortunately, the death of the Vessels and the release of the bijuu into the wild spelled disaster for the rising Land of Spring. At first, the country's elite figures believed that due to the position of the country and its relative isolation from the mainland would pose as a barrier that would deter the bijuu from attacking the country. This reasoning proved to be somewhat correct; the country faced some attacks from the Three-tailed Beast, Isobu. Three-Tails, known for its affinity towards water, attacked and destroyed numerous port-cities of the Land of Spring.

The major blow to the country did not come in the form of attacks against the country itself, however. What hurt the country the most was the destruction of one of its major trading partners, the Land of Lightning. The country depended a lot on exports/imports and trading between the Lands of Lightning and Earth by sea, and thus when one of the two was wholly destroyed by the rampaging Tailed Beasts, the country was brought to its knees economically. Thus, it didn't come as a surprise that, after the sealing of the bests, the country became a willing part of the Land of Earth's fledgling empire.
As for Kaimu himself, the story of his conception is a wordy one, so I'm going to save you the trouble of reading through it. His mother was a jonin ranked shinobi of Harugakure that met his father, a then wine deliveryman, during one of her many missions. Things happened, and 2 years after their meeting, Kaimu was born.

As a child, he was a feisty one, always out and about, on his own or with friends. He always loved exploring, and thus never missed the chance to do so whenever he could. When the time came for him to enter the Academy, it was like a fish returning to the water. His energetic attitude along with his quick wit and eagerness to learn the shinobi arts earned him the admiration of his peers. When he eventually graduated, he was approached by the Harukage's associates, offering him a one of a kind chance: to become one of the Emissaries sent to a different country.

The whole family celebrated that day. Becoming a village Emissary was considered a huge thing back then, and still is now to some extent. Anyway, the next day he met with the Harukage himself, and he informed him that he was to be sent to Kyokujitsugakure.

From then on, he pretty much became a Kyokujitsugakure shinobi, went on missions for the village etc. It was during that time that he learned and practiced Katon. Much to his instructor's amazement, he had a very high affinity for Katon, adding to his already impressive affinity for Suiton. This triggered something inside of him, something he couldn't really understand himself. Only after traveling back to his homeland and visiting his clan did he get an answer. 

The high elder of the clan was equally unsure about what it was, but then a stroke of inspiration struck him. He quickly ran off to somewhere, and when he came back, he was carrying a huge, dusty book. He quickly skimmed through the book until he found a specific page that talked about a Fujita clan leader from way back. What was so special about him was the fact that he had a peculiar affinity for Suiton, Katon, and Inton. Furthermore, that clan leader had actually managed to combine these three nature transformations to produce a new, fourth transformation that he dubbed Alcohol Release, a Kekkei Tōta. Apparently, the set of genes that allowed the clan leader to form this Kekkei Tōta were partly inherited by other generations and thus couldn't manifest the ability until now.

After the initial shock passed, Kaimu and the elder agreed that it was better to keep the news of him having this ability a secret, since Harugakure's political situation at the time was unstable. I'd only been a couple of decades since the Land of Earth absorbed it after its economic collapse. Kaimu was advised to return to Kyokujitsugakure and act like nothing was out of the ordinary.

After returning, he slowly started experimenting with this new power, practicing it in secret. Until now, you can count the times he's used the power in a mission on one hand. Those few times that he's used it, he was a) on a solo mission, and b) his enemies were swiftly dealt with.

Description: Alcohol Release (酒遁, Shuton) is an advanced nature kekkei tōta that allows it's user to defend and attack, using Alchohol (酒, Sake). 

Alcohol in a general, non-chemistry sense, describes alcoholic beverages, drinks which contain ethanol. It is water-like, water-soluble, it causes a burn-like sensation, and it's flammable. Shuton, however, is not restricted to only ethanol but extends to other chemicals that are categorized as alcohols as well, such as butanol, ethanol, methanol, antifreeze etc. 

This nature is composed of Fire, Water, and Yin Release.

Description: After molding the three chakras inside his/her body, the user inhales deeply before spitting the molded chakra out of his/her mouth with force. The chakra takes the form of two dragons made of alcohol, coiled around themselves, that shoot towards the target, dealing moderate damage and soaking the target with alcohol.

Description: After molding the three chakras inside his/her body, the user quickly spins around him/herself whilst shooting numerous, tiny, orange-colored dragons (alternatively can focus on one specific spot). The dragons stick to whatever they come in contact with, dealing minor damage. However, If not quickly dealt with, the liquid from the dragons will seep inside the body of the affected through their pores and quickly intoxicate them. How drunk one gets is directly affected by the number of dragons that landed on his/her body, which means the more dragons hit one person, the more chances that person has to be heavily intoxicated, as well as their tolerance to alcohol.

Description: This technique shapes a large amount of alcohol into a giant, powerful wave, which hits the opponent with formidable might, dealing physical damage. Alternatively, and depending on the skill of the user, the wave can be controlled to stay in one place suspended and thus, act as a barrier against incoming projectile attacks, other jutsu etc. 

The ideal place to use it is near a body of water, but if the user's skill allows it, it is possible to use it even in a place where there is none. The amount of alcohol used will be in proportion with the user's skill.

Description: Infuse an edged weapon with Shuton chakra, giving it increased strength, durability, and sharpness. The weapon also get a slight increase in its range, as the chakra envelops and solidifies around it. Wounds inflicted by the chakra infused blades apply intoxicating alcohol straight into the target's bloodstream, increasing their chances of getting intoxicated.

Description: The user crosses his/her arms, and five droplets of water form on each arm. The user then slings their arms quickly, shooting off the droplets in a cone in front of him/her. Any targets caught inside the area of the cone are damaged.
