Inadi laughed at Ace's reaction to his comment on her hat. At the very least they could take their mind off of the danger of the fight with a good joke between them all. Stressing was not going to help bring that monster down in any stretch of the imagination. Then again it was probably for the best that they focused on the damn thing until it was dead, since all the vines still flying at him were beginning to become a very serious nuisance.

Inadi watched as Harper ran off to fight against the mushroom thing and saw as he traded blows with it, cutting off another arm as he began getting crushed by a vine. Inadi was about to run in and try to assist, but that idea quickly went by the wayside as Ace set the thing a blaze with fire and it made the vine loosen its grip. Letting out a sigh of relief he continued to wait for the beast to fall into the nearby pond so that he could deliver whatever final blow needed to be made to finish off the creature.

The vines were wailing around uncontrolled now it seemed. This was the monster's last stand, and a poor one at that. Like some kind of punch drunk prize fighter, it flailed whatever attack it could muster to try and keep the enemies at bay, but at this point it was an exercise in futility. Inadi swung at the few that were headed his way and saw Ace get hit by one as well towards the tail end of the little offensive. Even a cornered rat needed to be feared, and this thing clearly didn't want to go down without some kind of fight.

Inadi turned to Leila and saw that she was pulling back her bow. Staring at the monster, he saw that if the arrow stuck it would probably throw it into the pond. Removing the last few vines in his way, he prepared himself to make a quick run to the pond to ensure that the plan would go through. This was their best chance at killing this thing and even with it on fire it was proving to be a pain on the way out the door of the living.

The arrow stuck. The monster fell. A splash was heard. Inadi quickly ran over to the pool of water and set his spear down as he began focusing his energies into his hands again. Clapping them together he began seeing the lighting being built up in front of him. He wasn't sure how much he needed, but considering how tough this sucker was on land, he figured he would need a hefty amount of power to put this thing down for good.

The pool was deep. Granted it was already dark but it seemed as though this pond was bigger than they imagined. Inadi wasn't even sure if the beast was still in the water considering how black the bottom looked. Still building his energies, hands clasped onto each other, he got his answer as the monster returned to the surface with a screech that echoed in the cavern.

Inadi shook his head and began pulling his hands apart, bolts escaping his grip as they jumped to different sections of the cave. “Trust me when I tell you, this is gonna hurt you DAMNED MONSTER!” Inadi screamed out as he threw his hands out in front of him and watched as a lightning storm rained down on the monster's head and the rest of the pool. The entire cave lit up with the electricity, and the pond flashed bright white as the lighting coursed in the water.

The monster stiffened and flashed white every few seconds as well, the current going through him just as it had Inadi a few minutes prior. The human dealing the blow continued to shoot his power into the water as the beast's screams became mute and the body seemed to become charred from the power. Eventually it seemed that enough was enough as the mushroom man began sinking to the bottom, all the while Inadi continued his attack to ensure that this was the end of the creature.

Once it left the surface, Inadi stopped his attack and dropped his arms to his sides. Staring down at his necklace, what was nearly full was now just a drop away from being empty. Feeling dizzy, he had to quickly readjust his footing to try and stay up on his feet. It was a difficult task as he began feeling gravity do its job and finally pulled him down. He was able to at least angle himself so that he landed on his side. The pool still had small bolts jumping around the water, and Inadi didn't feel like joining their attacker in his new watery grave. Inadi let out a groan as he tried to keep his eyes open, his body desperate for rest now. “Good plan Harper. Glad it worked out.” He said in a low tone. He wanted to scream it to the boy across the cave from him, but he didn't have the strength to carry his voice over the distance at this point. “And good job by you two as well. Did a hell of a lot more than I did.” Inadi said to the two girls of the group. He was unaware that Leila was already passed out or the state of Ace. At this point, he didn't have the energy to lift his head and look around. He was too caught up in the lights of the cavern that he had enjoyed prior to their little battle they just had. Letting out a sigh, he began feeling his desire for sleep take over as he let his eyes rest for the moment, waiting for sleep to come to him.

An arrow whizzed through the air and the mushroom man let out a hiss.

There was a splash, followed by a battle cry. The water in the pond lit up and sparks of electricity filled the room. Harper backed away and watched as the creature flailed and writhed, water splashing everywhere. It continued to screech for a few more seconds before it went quiet and slowly began to sink. In it's place, several fishes surfaced, their bellies up and eyes wide open.

"We did it," there was no rush of triumph, just an emptiness. "We killed it." Harper focused on the dead fishes and didn't even bother to look up. Inadi began congratulating everyone and the boy nodded numbly. "Yeah, everyone was amazing. Leila...those shots were great. Ace, you already know you're awesome." He cracked a smile and gave his friend a small laugh. Sulking around her would do him no good, she'd only try to make everyone smile and he really didn't want to trouble anyone. Ace was like a candle, whenever she walked into a room she brightened things up, he was thankful for her infectious laughter. He needed it, Jasper needed it, and he figured that some of the others did too. "Thanks for everything, Inadi." He nodded his head at the older boy and mustered up a smile.

The cave was quiet now and they were safe. Silly, how moments ago he thought they were doomed.

Harper dropped to his knees then fell onto his back, he didn't care about his wet clothes or the damp floor. At the moment, the only thing that mattered was the present. They were alive and they still had a chance to go home.

The adrenaline began ebbing away and he felt tired. "I thought we were going to die, y'know." As soon as the words left his mouth he laughed a little. "I hope the others are alright." The liquid in his amulet was low and his muscles ached. "You guys do think they're okay, right?" Nowhere was so crazy and unpredictable. Chatting, just talking even though it was about death and frightening things felt good--normal. "Sorry about that. I mean, we'll find them...and then we can all go home."

Did Lesley just call her a weirdo?

"Wait? What? Says the guy with pink hair!" She gave him a look that was supposed to be threatening but failed. Riley's attention was snatched away by the orc when the thing began sending rocks in all directions. Suddenly, Leon was sent flying and she looked pissed in his stead. "No one hurts my teammates!" She declared bravely before Lesley launched himself at their foe.

Rainbows began flying in all directions and the girl froze, staring at the several colors with her mouth ajar and eyes wide.

Everything happened so fast and Jasper, the timid healer actually stabbed the thing in its eye. "Whoa...way to go." The creature let out a wail, the attack obviously hurting it. Magic, it could dodge, but a stab to the eye, no siree! "Hey windy," Riley gave Leon a giant grin and a wave. "Could you help me out with a gust of wind?" Before she could see him respond the girl ran towards the orc and leaped into the air. The wind beneath her feet shifted and she was propelled upward, the girl extended her arms and fell smack dab on the orc's dashing and chiseled face.

She wrapped her arms around its neck and held on for dear life. "I have tamed the beast--" The thing tried to shake her off and she let out a yelp. "I have it, someone go for the arm band!" Riley didn't know how long she would be able to hold on, the thing was thrashing around a lot.

'Breathe in...

And out...

Move legs. Still able to feel them, and feet too.

Hands? Right, but the left still hurts... I hope it's not broken.

Broken anything? ... Just feels really sore. That's okay... I can push through this.

No blood?

Ace turned her head slowly to each side, and let out a heavy sigh. No blood. Good. But that fall hurt like hell. It had taken a few minutes for her to regain the wind that was knocked out of her. The short, quick breaths slowed to a regular pace and she managed to roll over to her stomach and push herself up to her knees. Ace caught sight of Inadi and Leila collapsed on the ground and the monster fried. She gave an out of breath laugh and grinned. "Good job guys. We did it." She looked over at Harper and smiled, putting a thumbs up before heaving a sigh and standing to move closer to Leila and Inadi.

She lifted strands of Leila's hair curiously, noticing her unconscious form. "Poor girl is worn out." Ace leaned over to see Inadi and saw the same thing. "Heh, you guys were awesome." She decided to fall with them and lay on her back. "Hehe, you are awesome too Harper." Ace giggled and sighed. "I think we can take a well needed break. Not like we have a choice though." As they all laid there in silence, Harper spoke up in question. She laughed and looked at him. "Of course they're okay! You have to trust them. You're going to worry yourself to death if you don't. And yes, once we get out this cave we'll regroup and find the dragon!" Her excitement simmered down, being courteous to the ones that may have hit their head a few times and didn't need too many loud sounds.

Soon enough, Ace decided to sit up again and face the others. Her laying there in "peace" didn't last very long. With a somewhat serious, but more concerned look, she spoke. "So is everyone okay? No broken bones or anything right?" Even the hyperactive girl still cared to make sure that her newfound friends were okay. And surprisingly, she managed patience even though she was once again ready to go forward- with injuries and all.

Lesley and Hakuren were trapped behind the log, but that didn’t stop the pink-haired human from shooting beams of light at the orc’s face. Maybe he was hoping to distract the monster, but his repeated attempts were futile as the arm band absorbed all of his attacks; the rainbows merely gathered together and then faded away as if sucked in by a black hole. When the fallen tree snapped into half under the orc’s repeated slashes, Lesley decided to throw all caution and lunged at the creature’s arms. There was a bright array of colors as he tried his best to snag the arm band, but while Lesley was able to tear a part of the band he fell short of the real task and fell down on the forest floor. The human looked shaken up and Jasper immediately attended to him.

It was no surprise then, that R’ktash targeted the healer next. It ran towards Jasper on all fours and then picked her up, obviously ready to plop her down the hatch if only she didn’t decide to ram her staff through his eyeball. The orc let out an enraged howl of pain and threw the human away, staggering backwards blindly and causing more trees to snap in half. It used its sword as a cane as it plucked the arrow out then threw it away, blood now gushing down from its eyes. If it wasn’t enough already, it looked as if Leon had recovered from his trip earlier to aid Riley, and the spunky girl flew at the orc’s face and clung there like a limpet.

The orc grabbed at the teenager with his free hand and made a move to throw her off, but for some miracle she grabbed on to the arm band. She used just on hand to cling on to the accessory, her face growing ashen as her grip slowly started to loosen, but in her other hand a small fire ball was forming. Before she fell Riley was able to shoot the fire ball at the armband within extremely close range, and as she thudded to the ground she heard something-

Clank

-falling.

“Whoa! Looks like I got it!” Riley cheered with the slightest bit of confusion in her hazy eyes before she plunked down on the ground, unconscious.

What is ice? It is merely frozen water. A hard forgery of something else. It can not erase something’s existence or bring inspiration to the soul as fire can. Nor can it bear the fruit of life and offer shelter as the earth does. It is another form of something, which in itself is on the boundary between the living and the dead.
In the water is where all life began. This concoction of two simple elements is a substance that existence needs to remain valid. Yet this “motherly spirit” can drown you with its “love”. It can poison you, restrain you, ultimately taking away the life it has given. Water may heal or help you decay. It can be calm and it can be restless. Clear and murky. Deep and shallow. Never remaining in one state for long, changing its form with every new container. A mysterious intricate anima, which does not recognise the borderline between reality and imagination.
Albeit created by this embodiment of harmony, ice is not a scale, on which two opposites reside perfectly in balance. There is no situation in which it may aid the creation of new animate beings, for it possesses a cold and unforgiving nature. Made of crystals pure and graceful, an angelic bringer of death it is, freezing one’s entire being and robbing them of their final breath without so much as creating a single scratch on one’s flesh. Indeed, ice is the true “kiss of death”. A gentle touch that ends all sorrow with an eternal sleep in an embrace deprived of warmth.

This all being clear and said, it can not be expected of something so “black” to be merciful in battle. The stage of war it may silently leave, yet behind it shall be a path of soundless demise. A beautiful white star spreading darkness on its way across the welkin. Obstacles that appear on the road will only meet their peril sooner. This statement is not only true for foes, but for allies as well. An essence so bitterly cold that it stings every fiber of your body is not meant to be one’s faithful companion, like a simple-minded dog that allows not its mind but its heart to lead the way.

Just as a wolf would carefully stalk its prey before unleashing an attack, Hakuren observed the bloodstained arena below him, all the while contemplating on the matter of his power.

Sitting on a branch of one of the trees that surrounded the clearing, he had reached the beforementioned conclusions already and was taking his ~time~ to decide upon his future actions, whilst various happenings occurred with the involvement of his teammates. The young man had taken this position shortly after a tree had fallen between him and the ogre, when Lesley had given him the opportunity to slip by unnoticed, whilst the human of a now not so questionable orientation performed the skill named “Care bear stare”. The ice mage had known from the beginning that his ability was not meant to be used within a short distance, thus he had taken the advantage created by the commotion to occupy a spot that better suited his liking.
However, this did not mean that he had not realized the danger of his new location. Having demonstrated its ability to demolish anything in its path, one swipe from the beast’s sword at the bark could mean a broken leg or worse. Yet the pros outweighed the cons during the moment of action and further dominated them, since the only way for the living terror to specifically pick to cut down the tree he was resting on was to witness the youngster using his ice steps to reach his hiding spot. With Panther properly attracting its attention, it would not have been possible for it to have noted where its other enemy went.
Safely masked behind the many leaves of blue, green and violet, which shivered as the wind blew at them, the green-blue-eyed magician followed closely with his gaze the continuation of the play.

It lasted for what felt like a ~short time~, yet that period was enough for the mythological figure to break free from its attacker’s grip and lunge at the albino healer of the group. Due to her inability to do anything other than mend injuries, the girl had been incapable of escaping the ogre’s hands and became trapped in its hold. Fortunately, her instincts kicked in and her mind made use of whatever was on hand, namely the staff that had been given to her before their departure, and stabbed the fiend in the eye. Taking a staff to the eye. That was a worthy successor of “an arrow to the knee”.
The next actor to step on the stage had been Riley, the heroine of the flame, whose impressive imperfect control over her element had so far in their journey dealt a decent amount of damage. Like any main character out to have fun in the battlefield, she had displayed typical recklessness and confidence by leaping into the air with the aid of Leon’s wind and landing on the monster’s head. The lass had wrapped her arms around its neck and clung onto it like a clingy girlfriend, her intention being to allow her comrades to take a clean shot at the armband, an item which had thus far been absorbing their magical attacks. Things had turned for the worse when the beast attempted to take her off. It had obviously been in a state of panic, seeing as its precious piece of defensive equipment was being targeted. Realizing that she could not hold on any longer, the young woman had fired a shot at the inanimate object, the fire burning away the leather that had strapped the gem to the limb. With this final task done, her mission had been completed.

In the end the humans had achieved their first order of business, not without taking a toll for it. Jasper was scratched and bruised, cowering behind Lesley, who had also taken an injury or two after being pushed away by the ogre. Leon was rather out of it, his body no doubt aching after taking a direct hit from the villain’s shield. But the one, who had received the most pain from them all, was Riley, who now lied on the ground unconscious after being thrown off by the enemy.

And during the passing of all these events Hakuren had not so much as lifted a finger. Watching them struggle from his comfortable seat, his staff placed atop his lap, the thought of casting a spell had not been far from his mind. In fact, using his ability was the topic of his internal monologue, yet the moment to play his part had, until this point, not yet come. There were numerous openings that could have been taken, but what had prevented him from doing so was the fact that his companions were simply too close. Even if he could give the order for the ice to attack and move in a certain manner, he could not draw out the detailed course of action. Ice was like a cat. A pet with a great dose of independence. In all of the instances when the rest of his group needed his aid, a shot from him would not only affect the ogre, but them as well. Understanding that this would be a waste of energy, not to mention friendly fire at useful teammates, this individual preferred to stay in the shadows and lie in wait. His patience was bound to be rewarded.

An icicle fell out of thin air on the armband gem, which had not been picked from the ground. The jewel shattered, lights flashing brightly as they escaped their container. The magical nullifier was no more. The humans were longer at a disadvantage. The monster was unsteadily standing on its feet, blood pouring out of the fresh wound where its eye used to be. With half of its sight now gone and tired from the chase, it was now a sitting duck.
The atmosphere became cold. Bit by bit the temperature dropped. Transparent shards could be seen fluttering in the air as light glided on them, before disappearing into the nothingness. Seemingly in an instant the ground beneath their feet became pure ice, layer upon layer of thick crystal clear sheets. Frost started creeping its way up the trunks of the trees around the clearing, as well as up the legs of the ogre, yet in the second case its purpose was not to hold it down. Considering the being’s brute strength, it could not hope to accomplish such a feat, thus its priority was its penetrating property, rather than its chaining function. The animal’s skin may have been thick, yet it could definitely feel the cold. It was not necessary to reach to the muscles beneath it. Simply enter a few millimeters down and drop the temperature. This was of the ice’s own “free will” after being released upon the earth and, despite the target being the monstrosity, those who were not capable of movement could also be affected lightly. That was the reason why Riley’s skin was losing colour and miniature bits of ice were forming on her fingers. If someone did not reach out and pick her up, her slumber would be eternel.
Only for a heartbeat did the serenity of the ice remain. With a thunder-like sound deformed pillars, huge spikes and cones started rising from the ground, all of them made of ice. The direction they took was offtimes to the side, ranging in radius from 30 to 78 degrees. Their number was great and with their various shapes and positions, they effectively blocked the monster’s view of all of its targets. In addition, the ice was polished to perfection, becoming the same as a mirror. Even when many of them did not manage to sting the opponent, the trap was a success.
From the appearance of the icicle to the end of the obstacle formation and restructure of the arena, Hakuren recited a piece of literature he could remember from memory, despite not being able to recall when or why he had learned it:

“Whereat I turned me round, and saw before me
And underfoot a lake, that from the frost
The semblance had of glass, and not of water.
So thick a veil ne'er made upon its current
In winter-time Danube in Austria,
Nor there beneath the frigid sky the Don,
As there was here; so that if Tambernich
Had fallen upon it, or Pietrapana,
E'en at the edge 'twould not have given a creak.
And as to croak the frog doth place himself
With muzzle out of water,--when is dreaming
Of gleaning oftentimes the peasant-girl,--
Livid, as far down as where shame appears,
Were the disconsolate shades within the ice,
Setting their teeth unto the note of storks.”

And when all was completed, he resumed in his normal voice
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” He had stepped from the branch down to the ground. “That’s how Dante describes Cocytus in the final circle of Hell, where all traitors, including Lucifer himself, are frozen and tormented by neverending cold. To be able to restrain even the so called “Devil Emperor”, ice must be an amazing thing.” he sighed and rested his back on the tree behind him.

This one complicated spell, which gave form to many objects all at once, was given the name “Mirror Labyrinth” by Hakuren, due to the confusion created by the ice reflections. Even if the ogre tried to cut through it, there was simply too much hack off of one or two goes. Yet, as magnificent was this creation was, it did not leave its owner to only marvel at the sight. Five sixths of the liquid within his amulet had been used for the fruition of the maze. Lacking so much life energy made the young man’s head pound and blood veins were visible in front of his eyes every few seconds. He felt like he could choke out blood at any given moment. Some of it even dripped down his mouth. His intention to additionally bring forth a shower of ice needles upon the beast, yet that was not possible in his current state.

As if that wasn’t enough, the temperature of the atmosphere had dropped dramatically. It was as if it was the middle of winter. Frost formed on the trees. Some bugs were even frozen in place.

~Beautiful. Powerful. Dangerous. Cold. Ice as a power can’t be controlled.~

Unfortunately, whilst Jasper surged more essence into his amulet, the orc spotted the action quickly and charged at Jasper in anger that it was giving them more energy in order to deal damage on him. snatching her up into his large hand, he looked like he was just about ready to take a giant bite out of her when suddenly she withdrew her staff and stabbed it right into the his eyeball, the sharp end of the object drilling into the tender flesh of his pupil. Lesley winced and almost threw up just imagining how much that must've hurt. Watching horrified as he later threw her to the ground like a little girl no longer entertained by her barbie, Lesley's dashed to her side to see if she was doing alright. Staring at her being, she looked pretty beat up from the fall, but was in overall good shape.

Meanwhile, Riley scampered at the temporarily injured beast who was flinging his arms around in pain and clutching the punctured eye, blood seeping through the cracks in between his fingers. She jumped and sent herself clinging onto its face. It began shaking violently, almost like a wet dog trying to get rid of excess water from its bath. Forming a flame in the palm of her hand, she blasted it at the arm band just in time before she too was sent tumbling back to the ground. "YES!" Lesley cheered and suddenly ice formations began rising up around the disgruntled monster. It enclosed him almost completely, reflecting his hideous image back to himself from all directions. This was it. He thanked Haku from wherever that boy was hiding. The temperature drop was extremely frigid, but that was the least of his worries. With an amulet filled almost to the top thanks to Jasper, he climbed onto a tall boulder in order to look down at the trapped ogre from a nearly bird's eye view and attack it from there.

Gathering wisps of colors at the ends of his finger tips, he sent them at the orc and this time it looked as if it was actually dealing some serious damage, the orc screaming and thrashing wildly, his cries of pain echoing through out the forest. Good thing that band had come off, if it weren't for that, the orc would still be practically invincible against their attacks. From where he sat, the ice sculpture looked glorious, twinkling and glittering, its structure unlike anything Lesley had ever laid eyes upon. His rainbow beams were deflected by the frozen agua, springing back and forth like ping pong balls until it collided with the ogre's thick green skin. It wasn't long until the poor beast was starting to look rather exhausted, close to passing out. Catching sight of Haku on the outskirts of his master piece, the male didn't look well at all, red veins pulsed in the white of his eyes and blood was dripping from the corners of his mouth like how the orc had bled from the eye.

"Jasper! Help Haku please!!!" he yelled urgently, pointing an alarming glare at Hakuren who looked close to passing out.

Leon decided that he didn’t like orcs any more than he did while he was still on Earth. The creatures were of a foul nature, simply geared to kill, kill and kill. This particular orc was doing its job well, too well for he was proving harder and harder to get rid of. Simply hiding behind Hakuren and Lesley didn’t prove to be enough anymore as Hakuren quickly gave out his orders, stationing Lesley with Jasper some feet away and leaving Leon alone with the task of getting dirt in the thing’s eyes.

Sensing the danger the orc posed, Leon followed orders and stirred up the loose dirt around the orc’s feet, allowing Lesley free reign to use his rainbow bear powers. However, the orc decided to advance. Having not seen the great beast, Leon was shoved away by its heavy shield. He was blown off his feet and landed in a heap ten feet away, body aching from where the rusted nails holding the shield together had dug in. Furthermore, his ribs felt sore where the wooden shield had collided with him. Winded, he lay on the grassy floor for several long moments, trying to get his breath back.

A slew of colorful curses left his mouth as he lay face-down – yet again – on the ground, cursing the orc to hell and back. Eventually he found the strength to get up again, knowing that it wasn’t dead yet – judging from the sounds – and it was still a threat to his companions. As hidden as he was, he didn’t want to end up burying four bodies. He mustered up the energy to drag himself up to his knees and then one foot, following with the other. As hard as it was to walk with his chest in such a bad condition, Leon managed to make it back to the clearing where the orc was encased in ice.

What had happened? Hakuren lay on one side, looking for all the world like he’d suffered severe trauma and even more severe internal bleeding. He felt a mild bit of panic run through him – Hakuren was truthfully the closest thing he had to a friend here, and he sure as hell didn’t want the annoyingly perceptive guy to die. Nevertheless, it wasn’t going to get any better with the orc still running out and about. Lesley had managed another bout of rainbow-power at the beast but Leon was determined to kill it once and for all.

Gathering up all his energy, Leon focused on the orc. Instead of using the predictable way out, such as summoning a huge gust of wind to blow it fifty miles away, he went down the more destructive route. He was sure Lesley and Jasper would find the aftermath disgusting – and truthfully, so would he – but it had to be done.

Over the course of several seconds, the air pressure around the orc heavily increased, and suddenly the thing looked like it was being squeezed by a giant invisible hand. Leon could feel the exhausting taking over but a few long seconds later and with a last push, he increased the air pressure around the orc over the limit. The invisible hand that seemed to have been crushing the orc squeezed too hard, and it exploded. Not in the conventional sense where innards and guts flew everywhere; no, the entrails stayed somewhat inside, some slowly leaking out as its bones were crushed to the point where it couldn’t survive. Thankfully, most of it was still encased in ice and spared the others the sight of its slow death.

All of his energy left his body in a rush, and it took all that he had not to collapse right then and there. Staggering over to the others, Leon chanced a glance down at his amulet; the liquid wasn’t as low as Hakuren’s but it was still very low, as was evidenced by the sudden lightheadedness. He collapsed a little bit away from Hakuren, his world spinning violently. Looking up at Hakuren’s approximate location achieved nothing, for all Leon saw was a green blur flecked with darker colors.

“Are you guys alright?” Thankfully, he was still conscious and slowly, over the course of a few minutes, the world righted itself again. As he regained his vision, he realized that the orc hadn’t been encased by ice but had been surrounded by great slabs of mirror-like ice. Shrugging it off as a mistake caused by adrenaline, Leon slowly sat up and inspected the rest of his companions for any signs of injuries. Apart from Hakuren, they all seemed well enough. “Great job, you guys! We killed our first orc.”

Riley took her advice immediately as she charged at the temporarily distracted orc, throwing herself onto its face as she blasted balls of fire at tits arm band in an attempt to burn it off. It took a couple of tries, but luckily, she shot right at it and successfully burned the protection from the monster as its beloved arm band fell to the floor. Riley was then chucked off of the orc's face, Jasper gagging in her mouth as she saw the damage she had down with her staff, its eye bleeding, red fluid trailing down his cheek. Looking at Riley, she had collapsed, her amulet nearly empty. Jasper scrambled to her side immediately, pressing a hand to the girl's chest. She knew the drill, shut your eyes and focus, surge the energy into one you care about. She imagined her essence flowing out of its glass enclosure and into Riley's. Sadly, Jasper's own amulet was draining quite a bit and she was only able to give Riley's ornament enought o hit the half way point.

"That should be enough to sustain you." Heaving a sigh of relief, she turned her attention to the orc, but came face to face with ice. A wall of ice was surrounding the orc completely and Jasper knew right away who had made it. Haku always had the knack for creating beautiful, yet dangerous structures. Though she couldn't see the orc, she could hear it thrashing around within the trap, audibly trying, but failing to escape its ice jail.

"Jasper! Help Haku please!!!", Lesley yelled from atop a boulder where he was constantly blasting rainbow beams at the beast within.

Nodding her head rapidly, she ran towards where Haku looked dangerously close to passing out as well, his amulet wasn't visibly showing any essence. As she ran, she watched Leon sum up immense energy, she could see the chilly atmosphere above the ice enclosure shuddering in wavy lines as the pressure was being forcibly drawn south-bound. Brutal roars of excruciating pain rang from within the ice walls and she wished she wasn't there to listen. Death was a terrible fate whether it was a creature or a human, it still hurt her either way to witness it. Then the cries died out, crackling of thick bones and gushing noises were clearly heard and she stopped in her run to clutch her upset stomach. Horrific images of how it must've looked in there flashed through her mind and she couldn't help, but stagger to a nearby bush and throw up air. Her stomach absolutely empty, not able to release anything.

Haku looked like he was on the verge of collapsing and so did Leon. Riley was laying a little ways away on the other side of the sculpture. Lesley was the only one who looked like he was in decent shape.

“Are you guys alright? Great job, you guys! We killed our first orc.”

Stumbling to where he and Hakuren were, Jasper grabbed Leon's amulet. The life of a healer, she now knew, was not easy the least bit. she was physically and mentally drained out from regenerating essence for her team mates, but she knew that her power was vital tot heir survival. Resting her forehead on the crook of Leon's shoulder, she needed some physical support as she closed her eyes and surged his essence to one fourth. That's all she could put in because Hakuren still needed some, probably more than anyone there. His eyes looked bloodshot and scarlet fluid ramified from his lips. his skin was pale and she could swear he was looked as if he was going to die.

Jasper by now had exhausted her resources and she only had one fourth left in her own. Placing a hand on Haku's shoulder, she wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him, feeling her energy float into his. Slowly, cutting her one fourth in half giving one eighth to him leaving her with half of what she initially had. at this point, Jasper was officially done. She let herself slide off of him as she fell to her knees on the ground. "Good job guys..." she lay down on the soft moss, it was so cold, yet her body felt warm. Jasper closed her eyes and let herself drift off into la la land. She slept.

Ace's cheer managed to put a smile on his face. "I guess you're right, they've got each other."

Harper sat up only to let out a wince. Funny, how things hurt a lot more when the fight was over. The adrenaline had ebbed away, and he was feeling sore all over, his elbows and knees stung and he felt so much older. "My back," the boy mumbled, "ughhh, this isn't pleasant." He grabbed onto his fallen sword and used it as a cane of sorts. The boy got to his feet and stretched, wincing each time his aching muscles complained.

"I'm..." Great wasn't exactly the word but he would live. "Okay...how are you holding up, Ace?" He narrowed his eyes at her injured hand, Harper was never good at hiding concern. The boy's eyes flitted to both Inadi and Leila and he smiled a little, now that the fight was over, everyone looked peaceful. However, they still had a list to complete and the guides were probably worrying their heads off. "I wish we could rest, but--" Harper's expression turned serious, "the others might need our help, we'll need to keep moving." He offered the weary Inadi a hand and helped yanked the older boy up.

"We've got a mountain to climb." He didn't sound excited, but there was no mistaking the determination in his voice.

Zephy, slapped Leila gently and when the girl didn't respond, she gave her another. Eventually, the archer came to and the messenger gave her a grin. She began tossing bandages towards the humans, yelling for them to look out. After that she helped Leila to her feet and encouraged the weary archer to keep at it.

Harper laughed a little at the lively messenger then gave the archer a sympathetic glance. "Come on Leila," Harper smiled brightly from one of the ledges. "With an aim like that, you'll be sure to knock that dragon right out of the sky." He was feigning bravery once more, but hoped that it would help raise the quiet girl's spirits. The boy continued scampering up one of the ledges before finally reaching an earthy corridor that was lit by red and purple crystals.

Sunlight streamed in through the cave's cracks and the end of the tunnel could be seen in the distance.

"Fudgeee!" Riley sat up, teeth chattering and head pounding.

It was as cold as heck and she felt as if she had run a marathon. The girl looked to the side only to see Jasper. Aah, that was right! They had been fighting with an orc. Had she gotten herself into trouble. Well, it felt as if she had been run over by a truck so that would be believable. "I'm guessing you're my guardian angel." The girl still had it in her to joke. "Thanks," her knees felt a tad wobbly but she managed to get back onto her feet.

What Riley saw next took her breath away. "Oh my...God." Various colors melded into each other, mixing as they bounced off the icy prison's surface. "Beautiful..." She stood in awe, gaping at the scene before her. However, it didn't last, and soon the wind around the orc began to whip at the ice sculpture frosty had made. There was the sound of cracking ice, followed by the orc falling to the ground.

She looked away, Frosty didn't look so hot, in fact, he was extra paled and looked like he was about to pass out. Windy looked tired, but okay for the most part. Lesley was okay and Jasper, the healer was asleep on the ground.

"I can't believe we're alive..." she laughed a little, and raised her hand into the air. "Windy, Lesley, high five!" As soon as that was done she skipped towards Hakuren. He was looking better, now that Jasper had patched him up. "Frosty, that was very cool!" Riley was grinning from ear to ear at everyone. "I know we're all burned out, but I think we should look for the others. They must be really, really, worried." With some effort she managed to help Jasper to her feet. The girl swung the healer's arm over her shoulder and began walking away from the orc's unconscious body. "We make quite the team! I just hope the others are doing A-okay too."
Meanwhile...

"I don't see any of them," Serenade let out a defeated sigh. After searching around and below the mountains the guides decided to wait near the peak. The dragon's cave was just a few kilometers away now. They had been hoping to find the humans near the peak but they were nowhere to be found. They could only wait now. Serenade closed her eyes, It was frighteningly quiet.

A dark shadow fell over Sol and citizens below heard the beating of wings and a deafening roar.

Inadi waved the boy off when thanks were thrown his way. In his mind all he did was become a walking conductor. Not really much of a help. Looking up at the crystals above them, Inadi decided to throw a rock at one of them to try and brighten the room up. The first stone he threw didn't even come close and actually came back down and hit Inadi in his chest. Still laying down on the ground from exhaustion, he scrunched his face up, confused at even his own stupidity in that moment.

Standing up while Ace stayed on her back and Leila rested for the moment, Inadi picked up another stone and threw it at the crystal again and this time hit it dead on. As the light shined brightly, Inadi rolled up his sleeves to check on his right arm that had been giving him all the problems. It had a few spasms left in it as he did so and knelt down when he saw the damage. Small burns that went up his arm on the same trail as the electricity traveled. He ran his finger over them and winced and hissed at the pain. They were fresh, and clearly were not something a rest was going to get rid of.

He turned towards Harper as he rolled down the sleeve, trying to hide his problems from the others for the moment. He hoped none of them had seen what he just had. He began walking over to the boy and patted him on the shoulder. Ace began giving him the support he needed to hear and decided it was best not to bash the kid over the head with the 'they will be okay' and 'their all tough cookies' speeches. There was such a thing as overselling a product. Last thing they needed to oversell was hope.

“I'd be more focused on what all we need to accomplish from here on out. Still a lot of cave to get through here. And who knows what other stupid monsters are in here.” Inadi said as he noticed that his spear was back near the lake. Giving Harper a quick nod he walked over and picked it up with his right hand. Big mistake. Moving the arm made it sting like crazy and it clearly wasn't going to be as strong as it was before. He could still move it, but nothing major it seemed. Holding back his hiss he reached down with his left arm this time and easily picked it up. “We could really use those Chocobos right now I think.” He said with a chuckle.

Picking one of the bandages out of the air that Zephy had thrown at him, he quickly pocketed it and kept it on his person. He didn't want to put it on yet in case someone else got hurt later on and they needed it. A burn was nothing serious in the end. Give it some ice later and it would be fine. If someone got cut and he had the last bandage, it would be better they had it versus him due to potential infection or something else. If there was a fungus monster in here no telling what all was flying around this cave.

As the group made it through the cave, he turned to Ace with a worried look. Earlier Harper had once again tried to come off as being the brave one, yet the shaking in his voice and knees was still easily seen by the glasses wearing man. “I think he pushes himself too hard. Did he do that whole brave act against the sirens or whatever else you all did before I showed up?” Inadi asked the red head as he began feeling the spasms in his right arm again. Clearly there was still some affects to the lightening from before still affecting him and it wasn't going away anytime soon. What a bad time to fight a dragon.

Ace watched as Harper stood, curiously raising an eyebrow. She then smiled and saluted with her good hand. "I've been through worse." She laughed lightly and stood with Harper. The sudden serious tone of his made her nod simply. It wad true whether they wanted to believe it or not. The other group may have had more people, but that didn't mean any of them were experienced. Nonetheless, Ace had full faith in them. She trusted they wouldn't die. They couldn't. But after all the hard work they put into making it this far. She saw the determination in their eyes every time they spoke of going home. It would have been sick a waste of they didn't accomplish their dreams. It made her wonder about her own dreams and wishes. She didn't have much of a reason to go home like everyone else, and she didn't really want to leave either.

The thought left her before she finished thanks to bandages that were tossed to her. "Oh thanks." She said before slowly bandaging from her palm to a little under her wrist. The other injuries were left alone, and she tossed the bandages back to Zephy. She didn't want to waste them if they were needed again. Like Inadi said,  who knew what else was in the cave. "Onward, to the others it is." Harper led the way, and Ace took up the rear, to make sure no one fell too far behind. Leila was by Harper and Inadi fell into step beside her. Ace looked over at him when he spoke to her.

. “I think he pushes himself too hard. Did he do that whole brave act against the sirens or whatever else you all did before I showed up?”

The girl couldn't help but laugh softly towards Inadi's worry. She smiled and patted his shoulder, looking over at Harper. "It's for a good reason. He knows that he won't survive if he is doubtful and cowering away from the challenge." Ace crossed her arms, adjusting her hat in the process. "He pushes himself because he wants everyone to be safe, and because he wants to go home." With a playful grin, she added. "And that's no act. Harper is the bravest kid I know!" 'Heh, and I don't know that many people.' "For someone to be as scared as he was, standing up to danger? That's pretty darn brave to me. It's him tapping into his inner bravery. You just have to be there to give him a slight nudge forward every now and then."

What Ace said, she believed to be one hundred percent true. For Harper to brave through everything he was afraid of was pretty admiring. She was a little shocked that he didn't keel over when she had first met him. Jasper too. But they were both braving through it. They were both strong to her. Ace didn't know the others as well, but she could probably say they were all fairly unique in their own way. "Heh, no need to worry Inadi. Harper is fine. He won't go over board." She sounded so sure of herself, even though the possibilities were endless. But she stayed optimistic,  and she kept moving forward.

Collaboration between Orpheus and Fox

It was pitch black outside and night had finally fallen over Sol.

After the battle with the orc and mushroom monster both groups began proceeding up the mountain. Sol was too far on foot, and dangerous monsters skulked around in the dark. The humans had no choice but to move upward, towards Zul's peak and the dragon's den. They soldiered on, muscles aching and bodies battered and bruised from their separate encounters. The cold wind whipped at their skin and several howls filled the air.

They marched on and eventually both teams regrouped. Relief washed over them, but it was far from over. They walked on and on and eventually the mountain's peak came into view. "Gragh, I can't believe we're here in one piece." Riley was huffing and puffing, and the cheery girl was no longer smiling. To be honest, she wanted to fall flat on her face and sleep for decades. "Everyone holding up okay?"

Harper didn't even bother answering and instead gasped for breath, his entire body ached. The boy kept close to the back of the group, making sure that no one fell behind and while some of the others chattered and complained, he scanned the surroundings.

Voices made their way towards the peak and two rabbit ears twitched. "I think it might be them." A loud complaint echoed throughout the mountain side and the black rabbit laughed, however, the chuckle turned into a wince when a sharp pain shot through her side. Those elemental wolves had actually taken a lot to chase away and if not for the royal dragoons, Serenade would have most likely become those wolves' dinner. "I'm certain that those are the humans we've been waiting for."

"Saves us the trouble of searching for them," Victoria muttered as she got up from her kneeling position on the ground. She was busy wrapping a line of gauze around her ankle because earlier one of the fire wolves had brushed against it, resulting to unsightly bleeding and more than a fair share of scares. She didn't care much for the pain; the nobody simply wished it wouldn't leave a lasting mark on her porcelain skin. Looks like she would have to run to the Sol apothecary once they return to the city. Still, it was troubling. This was one of the few times they had been cornered by all sorts of elemental wolves; normally they only come in packs of which elements complement each other, but all four at once? Was it caused by the advent of the crazed dragons?

From beside her Avian stirred and then stood up as well. He sheathed his daggers and listened. The two royal dragoons were both bruised and slightly winded but they were still in prime condition, so they bade Serenade to follow and headed down the path. In no time the two groups bumped into each other, and the guides only had to look at the humans for a moment to decide that now wasn't the time to pursue the mission.

"Let's search for a place to rest. None of you look well," Avian murmured and he assisted Hakuren, who still looked very much out of it, while Victoria eyed her whip hanging from Jasper's waist before deciding to carry the dazed Leila on her back.

They all moved on until they found a cave carved onto the mountainside. The humans stayed outside while the soldier duo checked it out; they came out in a few minutes and declared that it was safe. "Well, I'm pretty sure it isn't a dragon's den because if it was you would've heard roaring," Victoria sighed as they ushered everyone inside. Once they were within the cool and somewhat comfortable cave the humans started dropping down like dead flies, and even Victoria and Avian took the chance to break away from their rigid posture and slump down in exhaustion.

"Thank you, for everything." Harper stated before he slumped against one of the walls and slid to the ground. His eyes flitted to Hakuren then Jasper. "How are you both holding up?" He asked with a smile. Harper hadn't had the chance to ask them yet since the moment both groups ran into each other, another howl pierced through the silence. As a result, they clambered up the mountain as fast as they could, the elemental wolves were way out of their league.

Riley was lying on the ground not too far from them, grinning from ear to ear at Lesley and Leon. "That was fun! Windy, Les, Frosty, you guys were amazing and you too Jasper!" As soon as she finished gushing she pushed herself up and focused on Inadi, Ace, and Leila. "Good to see you guys are still in one piece." Riley sat down beside the archer and proceeded to tell them all about the orc with vivid gestures and giant grin. Things continued this way for sometime, the lost souls rested and told stories of the beasts they had faced, all was well...

Until a roar echoed throughout the cave.

Avian cursed under his breath and swiftly got to his feet the same time as Victoria. She turned to the humans, placed a finger over her lips, and efficiently rounded the nearest ones up and hid behind the nearest boulder. She was with the people who were assaulted by the giant mushroom, meanwhile her husband was the one who hid the humans who fought the orc. The two groups were basically hidden behind boulders on opposite sides of the cave; Victoria and Company was at the left side, Avian was at the right. "Dragon," Victoria muttered to the humans with her in case any of them asked the question. On the opposide side Avian was murmuring, "We were sure this cave was empty...!"

The roar grew closer but there were no flapping of wings or thudding of feet.

Riley peered over the boulder and the sight she saw took her breath away, the usually noisy girl had been rendered speechless.

Harper stared at the creature, dumbfounded. "Dragon?"

"Awwwww! It's adorable!" Before anyone could stop her, Riley bolted from behind the rock and raced towards the dragon.

Lying down felt like heaven, Leon concluded as he nearly melted into the floor. Sure, it was uncomfortable and something sharp was digging into his spine, but who cared when you had something flat to lie on? He inspected the cave’s ceiling, wondering what lay beyond the tons of rock that stood above his head. The sky probably, with its glorious selection of weirdly-shaped clouds. It was something Leon preferred far more to the dull grey expanse of rock but if it meant protection from the elements and the great winged beasts that resided atop the mountain, he would bear it.

He was dimly aware of the rest of the humans arriving and several moments later, he lazily raised his head a few inches to inspect the rest of his companions. They looked no worse than him and the group he fell with, minus Hakuren. The boy still hadn’t recovered, and lay in a corner still looking worse for wear. As much as Hakuren’s perceptiveness bothered him, Leon hoped he would make a full recovery – after all, Hakuren was his closest ‘friend’ here.

Speaking of friends, he heard Riley mention his name – he had already come to terms with being called ‘Windy’ – and turned his head towards the girl, careful to keep his precious crown attached to his head. After all, it wouldn’t be any good for it to roll away. Nor did he have any energy to go rushing after the crown.

“You were pretty cool yourself, knocking off the orc’s armband like that,” Leon replied. After all, if she hadn’t smashed the armband off, who knew where they would be right now. Probably still butting heads with the orc.

A roar shook the confines of the cave and Leon started, but did not get up. It didn’t sound distant – distant roars were scary enough, bearing a promise of something unpleasant but roars in close proximity were decidedly worse. Eventually he was forced to get up, as Avian and Victoria ushered them behind two boulders with alarming urgency. Avian had dragged them behind this boulder and Leon sighed at the inconvenience of all this. Just as he had started to relax and feel his mind wander, a dragon had to come calling.

Watching Riley rush out from behind the boulder towards the dragon, all Leon initially did was blink. Was the girl nuts? How could someone possibly rush at a fire-breathing oversized serpent with such zeal? Peering out from behind the boulder, Leon looked around for the massive form he expected yet he was met with none. In its place was a fluffy little dragon, similar in appearance to the clouds he had just been dreaming of moments prior.

He was gobsmacked.

Concluding that Riley was in no immediate danger from the poofy little serpent, Leon turned towards Avian, face expressionless. “Are you kidding me? That thing is as dangerous as the teddy I had when I was four.” He finished his statement by walking out from behind the boulder, a few meters away from Riley and directly in the dragons’ line of sight.

Taking in Ace's answer to his worry he let out a sigh and smiled. Probably the one person that could turn every moment of his worrying into something that, in the end, feel like a waste of time. She was so peppy and cheerful all the damn time and it made him feel a little better about himself. Then again, surviving through what they just did at the end of the day was a jarring experience either way and at this point it was probably for the best that he get whatever motivation he could to continue his way through this little journey.

He followed the rest of the group and eventually they all caught back up with the rest of their troupe. Inadi would have greeted them much more energetically but he was beginning to feel the adverse affects of his arm again. It was starting to spasm every once and a whole and his skin was starting to sting when there was a gust of wind or whenever his sleeve touched a certain part of his arm. Lucky for him he picked a rather baggy set of clothing, otherwise he would have been screaming in pain at this point.

Inadi sent a wave over to Riley and then a nod towards Lesley. The others received other acknowledgments but those two got somewhat special treatment. Lesley he had known for a long time, just as long as Riley, and he felt that it was in his best interest to keep the man aware that he remembered him. Something about him just screamed diva in Inadi's mind, and the last thing he wanted to deal with was drama from somebody as....interesting as Lesley. And Riley shared a similar passion of his in writing. That in itself made him feel somewhat of a connection to the girl and earned her a top spot on his list of “people to pay attention to in Nowhere”.

Once the cave had been cleared and checked out by the scouts, the glasses wearing boy immediately dropped to his knees in a spot a bit away from the rest of the group. He needed to check his arm and do it without drawing much attention. Looking around him to make sure no one was paying him any attention, he began rolling up his sleeve. All he heard was the exchanging of stories and experiences that both groups shared. He would have gladly given the group his part of the story of the mushroom man if he could. However, the sharp pain traveling up his arm was not going to allow him to do so.

Finally rolling up the sleeve all the way, Inadi swallowed a very nervous gulp of spit. The skin was rosy and glistened now. Parts of skin seemed to be so pink they reminded him of a pig's flesh. It was clear his arm was not going to do well now at this point. He shook his head at his own disapproval as he pulled out the wrapping he had held onto since back at the cave and slowly tried to wrap up his own wound. He squeezed down on his arm so that the bandage would stay on, but his grunts at this point could not be kept quiet as he did so. This was a new kind of pain he had never experienced, and one he hoped he never had to, but here he was experiencing it first hand.

Halfway through finishing there was the roar in the cave. Inadi went wide-eyed and looked on as some of the group went out to find the source of the sound. Rolling his eyes at them, he bit through the wrapping and left it halfway finished for the moment. He had gotten to his elbow at this point and he was content with that for the moment. Rolling his sleeve back down he joined Riley, Harper and Leon as they all looked on to the......dragon?

This was the beast? This was the creature that Inadi had been fretting over this entire time? Dropping his spear to his side and falling onto his backside, Inadi couldn't help but start laughing. All this time of worrying and making a general worry wart of himself and all they had to do was catch a dragon that looked like some kind of carnival toy! He couldn't help himself as he began letting his chuckle die out and he wiped his eyes to get the tears he had in them out. “Quite a wonderful dragon there I say! I can't imagine what the babies look like? Giant collections of cotton candy?” He asked with a smart-alecky tone in his voice. He stayed sitting, watching Leon's reaction and giving him a nod. This was truly either one of the funniest or most disappointing moments in their journey for him. Inadi could only wonder where it actually fell on his list.

The cave walk ended up empty. They, managed to get a break from fighting more monsters and even Ace didn't complain. Their walk was long, even before they regrouped and it was exhausting. 'Even I don't do this much physical labor when I'm moving.' She complained in her head, but stayed silent (unless she was spoken to of course). And despite their exhaustion,  Ace managed a grin when the other group came to view. She shared a fist bump with Riley and somewhere along the way, she looked at both Harper and Inadi and smiled. "I told you so." She spoke of their doubts towards if the others were okay.

When the groups were together, Ace took up the front of the line. "I'm okay up here." She didn't bother to yell. Ace wasn't at 'max Ace levels' to be extremely enthusiastic. "More walking, more walking." She mused, stopping when she heard voices. "Aren't we lucky. We found the guides before we found monsters." She spoke more to herself, but she was sure the nearest few could hear her. And once more, they were walking. Though at least they were walking to a place to rest and not just because they needed to get out the open.

It was once more that they had to climb to a cave, but afterward everyone seemed to collapse immediately. Ace took a seat around the story telling area and listened curiously to the stories. "That sounds awesome! You guys really handled your stuff!" When she explained her story it went more of:
"My group was epic! Leila did a cool move and shot it in the eye....Harper came up with a really cool plan....and then Inadi tasered it with his lightning bolts!" Ace spoke more about the others than herself, having her own gestures to explain the story. "Of course we made it in one piece." Ace said with a matter-of-factly grin.

Ace had ended up laying comfortably, on the floor regaining her energy. If there was a health meter above Ace, it would have shown that her health had made it half way to 'max levels' and then the roar of what she assumed was a dragon made her adrenaline level peak. She was surely going to jump to the front lines, but Victoria deterred that idea by pushing her and the others behind a boulder. "Mannn..." She complained softly as age was told to be quiet. Ace moved past Inadi and Harper who were near the edge of the boulder and peered to see the dragon. Much to her adrenaline's disappointment, it was just a mere cloud. Well, a cloud dragon. "That's a cute marshmallow and all. Didn't think something so small could make that kind of noise though."

Ace decided to climb on top of the boulder, taking a seat there to watch Riley run towards it. "This should be interesting." With another person just as excited as she was about the trip, she didn't have to jump head first into things. (Not all the time at least.) It seemed everyone else had a reaction of disbelief and hilarity towards the marshmallow. She would have ran toward it or laughed with them, but the dragon didn't look worth much besides the adorable factor. Cuteness only lasted for so long and Ace wanted to find a much better dragon than that one. "You guys should make it laugh." Ace reminded as she day on top of the boulder.

Citrus the floofeh cloud dragon flapped its tiny wings and did little somersaults in the air, its wide eyes focused on the girl who was running towards it. Riley leaped in an attempt to tackle the adorable dragon into a hug, but Citrus simply slipped through her fingers and she crashed into one of the cave walls.

The girl fell flat on her face and groaned, "that wasn't one of my best ideas."

"Rawr!" the dragon puffed out his chest and stared almost teasingly at the girl who was sprawled out on the ground. Laughter filled the cave and the cloud dragon spun around. He was mighty just like paparawr and mamarawr! He'd show them he wasn't something to laugh at! "Rawrrrr!" His tiny wings began flapping and soon he was surrounded by tiny and colorful clouds.

Harper hesitantly reached out to touch one of the clouds, it felt soft like a pillow. "It looks kind of cranky, you should laugh at the poor guy?" He eyed both Inadi and Leon then noticed that the dragon got more upset with each laugh. Honestly, Harper tried not to, but in the end he was laughing alongside both Inadi and Leon. He had spent his entire journey fretting and worrying and all for this? He hadn't expected this, not at all. Harper grinned at the fluffy cloud dragon, "you're quite the cutie."

Citrus' eyes widened and before the humans knew it, the little thing was running in circles around them and leaving soft, tangible clouds in its wake. It disappeared into thin air then reappeared on Lesley's head. The pink hair was so FLOOFEH it made the dragon chirp. The creature stifled a yawn then settled down on Lesley's head, happy and comfortable on the man's bouncy hair.

"Whoa Les!" Riley was back on her feet and grinning. "I think you made a friend."

Ace scampered onto a rock and reminded them about their goal.

"Sounds easy enough." Riley gave her friend a thumbs up then looked around at the others.

Harper nodded, a smile stuck to his face as well. "Ace is right, now, are dragons ticklish? He stood on his toes and gave the fluffy thing a pat on its head. Funny, how they had all been scared of it.

Alas, it was over. The orc was dead, gone, kapish. But it did not lose its life in complete waste. Lesley and all his group mates were exhausted, worn out, and both mentally and physically damaged. A short individual check up was done and once it was established that they were all still able to survive the grueling trek uphill, they gathered and trudged the mountain side in the velvet darkness of night. Several times he felt like he was on the verge of collapsing and never getting up for an eternity; the thought made him drool. But every time he did, he would look at Hakuren or Jasper who must be a hundred times more battered than he was. 'I mustn't be so selfish. Look at them! They're still going. Its ok Lesley, you can do this. We just have to find the others.' Straightening up his hunched posture, he walked at a faster pace than before and with renewed confidence; promise of sleep awaited him. Even when he tripped over jagged rock, or when the wind chill got so cold his skin began to sting, they had to keep going. 'Lord, hopefully they've got lotion. My skin is turning into scales.' He frowned while he studied the surface of his arms, the layers of epidermis were starting to look white and flaky.

Hours passed on and each second added more labor, contributing to the sickening exhaustion they were already striving through. Eventually, when Lesley was an the brink of snapping his last strand of hope, the site of their other half blurred into view. 'I must be seeing an illusion, like one of those oasis things people see after wandering a desert for so long.' Narrowing his eyes into a strained squint, he came to realize that it was really them!

Now he definitely picked up the pace. Miraculously managing to fast-walk towards them, he flailed his arms tiredly the entire span until the gap was closed. "My darlings, my darlings! We thought you guys were... well you know, BUT omg, I'm so glad you're all fine. I was worried sick.." he swiped at the corners of his eyes for emphasis, yet he was mostly worried about Inadi who gave him a half-lifeless nodded and he didn't bother feeling hurt knowing he must be worn out too. Too bad he didn't have enough energy to even flirt with the man, because his tired state put him into a vulnerable position for sure. He totally understood that both groups must've gone through a lot today and that they were sharing the same feeling of energy drainage. The guides and the bad-ash couple acknowledged the fact as well and didn't look swell themselves as the lot of them wearily forced their spent bodies to persevere until finally, there it was, 'home'.

Lesley was just about ready to rid of his last bit of energy to make the run into that cave, but the dragoons insisted on checking it first. Of course safety precautions should always be held over comfort, he understood that in these circumstances, but if it weren't for their situation then he would have stumbled in and dropped dead in there even if it was a dragon's den. Everybody took their spot within the enclosure once it was marked harmless and Lesley picked a mostly sandy area with little rock; mostly grainy sediment. It was much more comfortable than a solid slab and though it wasn't needed to aid in Lesley's search for sleep, it would contribute to a much more desirable physical feeling upon waking up since the surface wasn't as stiff as other spaces. Falling down into a crippled heap, his lights were out before he even made contact with the floor. The voices and story telling of the others never even made it into his ear canal. Pink haired beauty was KO-ed.

Not exactly sure on when the sensation came, but Lesley had never felt more comfortable a pillow than the one he was sleeping on right now. In his one-fourth subconscious state, he was able to feel a rumbling, then some scampering, followed by whispering, and an outburst of laughing. But he didn't care about any of the abovementioned, all he cared about was that an extremely tranquilizing softness had caressed his head and it was the nicest thing possible. Lesley smiled in drunken contentedness before he slipped back into complete unconsciousness again. Thus, he was having the deepest sleep he'd ever experienced in entire life.

]“With an aim like that, you’re sure to knock that dragon right out of the sky.”

Those words from the boy with glasses were surely meant as words of encouragement.

Yet really, Leila was confused because according to physics, the typical dragon isn’t even supposed to be able to stay in the sky in the first place.

* * * * *

Leila did not know how long the climb took. The best estimate she could give on that topic is the time elapsed for an average adult footstep, timed the number of cycles she counted the fluctuations of levels of sensations of pain and stress.

The Lost Souls regrouped after the brief sequence of happenings. Some of the Nobodies they met earlier also joined them - one of them, Victoria, offered to carry Leila on her back, and she gladly agreed.

The Nobody also seemed to have suffered an injury in her ankle, which seemed to be just recently treated. Leila noticed that a while into the trip and came to the conclusion that the Nobody probably wasn’t in the best condition to carry someone. She didn’t do anything about it, however, mostly because she wouldn't know what to even if she did.

* * * * *

The groups rested a while at the other cave.

Leila stood, her stance slanted as she leant against one of the cool, humid stone walls of the cave, near the entrance. Most of the others were doing much the same - standing, sitting, or lying around, exhausted, yet still enthralled enough to be enthusiastically sharing recent stories - or just plain exhausted.

Her eyes gazed idly at the...creature? Was this supposed to be classified as a creature - or a weather phenomenon? A puffy body of tiny water droplets. Moments ago the lot were terrified by the roar coming from the deep ends of the cave but then this jolly little fellow was the thing that came floating out. Even Leila couldn’t keep a straight face then, not having enough strength to actually laugh, but not enough strength to hold back the chuckle either. And now she watched calmly among the others - Harper, Leon and Inadi were playing with the cloud dragon so happily, their laughter echoing throughout the caves, and the fluffy trails of the dragon accumulating around them with every flap of its rings as it flew in circles. Lesley, on the other hand, had collapsed all the way onto the ground, on a lower area that was filled with a thick layer of sand, and soundly asleep.

Or just unconscious.

Distinguishing between those two states was always the hardest step after making sure the subject was alive.

But then - Leila had to think to herself - as sort of a random branch out from her line of thought, or one of those true but irrelevant things she’d notice -

That pink hair is very pretty.

As that, among many other thoughts, wandered idly through her mind, she decided to perhaps walk around a little. Pushing herself off the wall was an act that took all of her might without the amulet supplying the power, only the faintest light glowing from the magical artifact. She took a few steps - still staggering - closer towards the rest of the group, and the cloud dragon.

A few clouds lay close enough to Leila’s path. She reached out to touch them. Touching a cloud, though, was a strange notion. It was possible, of course, as long as you considered touching the air or touching water possible, yet like those two types of matter, the act of touching a cloud conveyed a much different sensation than one would expect from the conventional meaning.

Childrens’ books always said that clouds are puffy, not unlike cotton candy, except that clouds are not sweet and doesn’t stick to your hands. Leila also heard about mist being much like clouds, only at a lower altitude. The trails the baby dragon left behind was not puffy, but simply gave way as her fingers passed through the mass of the numerous airborne droplets, cool to the touch and leaving a tickling sensation on her skin.

That feeling made Leila very happy, somehow.

Harper and the little group of lost souls still chatted playfully as the dragon hovered around them. Leila then looked over just to see Lesley - and the pretty pink hair - crumbled in a heap on the nearby ground.

That reminded her how much she wanted to sleep. They didn’t really get much rest after the fight as they were to prepare for this journey, and somehow Leila did stay awake through the course of being carried through the hike.

The injuries felt much better now. She didn’t bother to check for bruises or sprains because they most certainly existed, just that it seemed that they didn’t hurt that much anymore. Carefully, she found a place to sit down near Lesley, and set her back against the wall and feet stretched out while her half-shut eyes still followed the puffy dragon along its trail in the air.

Maybe she should take back that thing about dragons not being supposed to stay in the air.

From the location of the orc’s defeat to the cave they would eventually take refuge in, Hakuren remained completely silent, a fact he detested quite. Jasper had managed to give him a pinch of power, just enough to keep him from falling unconscious, yet his body’s condition had barely improved. During their climb he could not feel the piercing wind that swept through everyone else. The young man was the embodiment of ice. There was nothing that could make him feel the cold. However, it had become harder to breathe. It was as if something had a strong grip on his lungs and prevented him from inhaling and exhaling properly. This made him fall behind several times as they followed to rocky path towards the peak.

The state he was in made the mage irritated with himself. If he was going to be dragging everyone down, at least allow him to complain about the hardships and suggest to halt. But this was not possible, for he felt as though the moment he would open his mouth would be a signal for something to come out, be it blood or acids. There was nothing specific that could truly exit the human’s stomach. He had not eaten neither at the tea party, nor at the prince’s castle. That cotton candy he had shared with Leon in the lovely garden had long since disappeared, like a dream that never was. The lack of energy both inside his amulet and in his body made the rest of the journey far more exhausting than it should have been. Going hungry wasn’t a foreign feeling for him, but it never lasted more than a week. In the timeless world that was Nowhere, at certain moments it felt like only three hours had passed and at others - three months. Needless to say, the youngster was simply too tired to partake in any conversation. Their current location was also not favorable for a friendly exchange of words. The rest of his companions seemed to agree with that statement and kept quiet, whilst they used every drop of strength they had left to march forward.

Eventually, the group was reunited with the rest of their comrades, as well as with the guides. It was not a touching reunion, for every single person was weary and visibly reluctant to laugh everything away and sing a mountain song. Hakuren and Leila were the only ones to be assisted, by Avian and Victoria respectively, to the cave where the party took shelter.
Once inside, the black-blue-haired magician slid down to the moist ground, resting his back to the stone wall. Deliberately having positioned himself next to Jasper, he intended recover quickly or to at least have some fun teasing the girl.

“Thanks for the heal, Bear-chan~” he told her in a friendly manner. “You did me a favor twice. I’m indebted to you. Would you like another light one in return? I was as gentlemanly as possible the first time, but I can definitely give you some ~special service~ now that we’re in the dark and out of danger.”

For better or for worse, Harper “came to the rescue”, oblivious to what the older male had told the girl.

Harper said "How are you both holding up?"

“Perfectly fine, mon capitan” Hakuren responded with a smile. “How’s that right hand of yours? Still got the courage to swing?”

Riddle himself wasn’t at the prime of his power, much like the other members of the gang. Even the dragoons had dared to lose their poise and drop to their knees. If they got ambushed, it would likely spell the end for some of them. With not a single one of them being at their one hundred percent, they were like sitting ducks, an easy picking for anyone who meant harm, be they a dragon or those hooded marauders.

Albeit he appeared unfazed and cheerful, the “ice king” remained vigilant and alert. Even in the dimness someone had to keep a look out in case something occurred and he had no intention to be caught off guard. Yet his head continued to pound, the hammering sound not ceasing to take a rest. The liquid inside the charm was slow to return, making it all that harder to endure. He could no longer see veins in front of his vision, but the taste of blood was still in his mouth. Sitting down apparently made him feel even worse, due to the need of sleep, the most natural method for recovery. His insistence to remain awake could only bring more harm. Despite the pain that stung from different sides, the human did not allow himself to show it. There was no evident reason to display his agony, yet there was also no logical point in hiding it. With both being acceptable in his eyes, the young man chose to conceal these troublesome sensations, merely because he didn’t find any pleasure in the thought of letting out a loud complaint at that very moment. If he were to allow his desires to take a hold of him, his mind would have already drifted off to dreamland, yet the duty to himself was knocking at his door, keeping him awake for the sake of being alive.

Just as he felt like his entire being had settled down among the chattering of his crew, a roar shook the entire cave.

Dragged by Avian yet again, Hakuren moved from his comfortable seat to a position behind a massive boulder at one end of the cave along with Leon, Riley and Jasper, while Victoria rallied Harper, Ace, Leila and Inadi at the other. The only one left behind was Lesley, who had fallen asleep on a sandy spot and didn’t give the slightest indication of waking up anytime soon.
The green-blue-eyed magician felt like he could hit the hay as well, for the sudden shifting of his body, rather than stir him up, made him drowsy. For a bit he decided to close his eyes, holding his staff in his hands as he sat behind the boulder.
Not a single thought crossed his mind. This phenomenon only occurred when he was utterly exhausted and the case at present was no other. It was unknown how much time the lad spent like this. After all, time itself was not relevant in this world. A few seconds? A day? Maybe a year? It did not matter. What did was that nothing had vastly changed when he regained consciousness and that he had come back in the first place. It was most peculiar, the thing which awoke the philosopher from the daze of slumber. A memory of sorts, of a person he could not recall neither the identity of, nor the manner in which they had met.

“You’ve got a knack for appearing out of nowhere, don’t you?”

‘Same as you.’

The answer to that neutral voice was instinctive. It had no meaning, no definite origin. It had merely come, just like the wind. A spark of curiosity emerged in his mind, enough to bring him to reality.

Slowly lifting his eyelids, Hakuren broke the chains of sleep only to find himself surrounded by jolly chatter. Rubbing off the last of the haze, he rose up, using his staff for support, and looked around. Small puffy clouds were floating in the cave, whilst a little dragon made of the same material soundly slept atop Sleeping Panther Beauty’s head. Puppy had also dozed off next to them, but the rest of the band was wide awake.

“Well, well, well. A baby dragon.” the young man said as he walked over to Harper and company. As he crossed the short distance, he tapped one of the little clouds with the moon of his staff, simply out of curiosity. The small wind formation turned into a miniature flurry, but stayed in one place, not causing any rampage whatsoever.

Ace said "You guys should make it laugh." Ace reminded as she day on top of the boulder.

Riley said "Sounds easy enough." Riley gave her friend a thumbs up then looked around at the others.

Harper said Harper nodded, a smile stuck to his face as well. "Ace is right, now, are dragons ticklish?” He stood on his toes and gave the fluffy thing a pat on its head. Funny, how they had all been scared of it.

“It’s a cloud dragon, Harper. I doubt it’ll be ticklish.” Hakuren told him, keeping his smile and friendly expression. “Little kids get really cranky when you wake them up abruptly, so suddenly tickling it would startle it anyways.” he pointed out and continued “I suggest a game of tag to get it more comfortable with us. Children like it when adults make fools of themselves, so one or two of us can fall over on purpose. That might get it giggling as a start.”

Getting closer to the critter, Hakuren minded his distance. While the magical being seemed harmless enough, there was no telling what it and the Lord of Pink and Rainbows, who appeared to still be out cold, could do. The mage put his hand on the dragon’s head and pet it, while saying:

“Little dragon~ Wanna play a game?”

Finally feeling his chest and gut calm down after the long chuckle session he just had, he looked at the little dragon and felt another laugh coming on inside him. The little thing look so annoyed at them that it puffed its little chest out as if to say it was a lot tougher and stronger than it looked. He kept control however this time and just stood up and looked over to Harper with a smile. “Well if we can pat it on the head we can clearly tickle the thing. And the sooner we get it to laugh the better.”

He knelt down to be near the dragon, which was now residing in Lesley's hair. Inadi was a little uncomfortable getting so close to the other guy, considering all the close encounters they had earlier in their adventures so far. But the man was asleep on his chest at this point and it seemed like the dragon was getting very attached to the fluffy stuff. It was a wonder how Lesley kept his hair so full considering how much running and sweating they had been doing as of late.

Staring up at Hakuren begin doubting the idea of tickling the dragon, Inadi waved him off and showed a smile on his face. “Oh come on there Hakuren, there isn't a thing alive in this world that isn't against getting tickled every once and a while. And besides that, its the fastest way to get something to laugh. So why don't we just get this little guy and...” Inadi reached for the dragon and was suddenly gripping air and parts of Lesley's hair. The little dragon moved away from the boy's left hand and seemed to be very against being touched.

Inadi took his hand away from Lesley's hair and wiped it off on his chest. “Okay so you don't want to be grabbed. Maybe just a quick little poke would do?” He asked as he stuck his finger out and reached for the little dragon again. Once more it moved out of the way at the last second and Inadi ended up poking Lesley, this time in the shoulder. Inadi began chasing the little dragon, who was remaining close to Lesley to be next to the hair and each time Inadi poked a different part of the boy beneath him and his agitation was beginning to collect in his mind.

Soon it appeared that steam had begun spewing out of Inadi's ears and he let out a deep growl. “Alright you little pest! No more mister nice guy! You are going to get tickled at that is final!” He yelled out at the dragon as he reached his hand out, looking to just grab the dragon and finally got a hold of something. Smiling to himself, thinking he got a hold of the dragon finally, he turned to see something he was confused to notice. It was the little cloud dragon, once again resting on Lesley's head. Yet Inadi had grabbed something he thought.

He looked back down and saw his left hand did indeed grab something. It was Lesley's bu........oh lord. Slowly Inadi removed his hand and kept his palm open facing away from him. He slowly, with a blank stare on his face the entire way, picked up his spear in his other hand. There was a slight sting due to the burns still, but the pain did not change the expression on the boy's face. Grabbing the hilt of the spear closest to the head of it, Inadi began rubbing his left hand off with the spear since he was short a cloth that wasn't attached to his body besides the medical wraps he still had.

After finishing the wiping he turned back to the group and rejoined them, his face still somewhat emotionless. Finally coming to a stop next to Harper and Riley he stared straight at the little dragon. Though in reality he was staring into the distance, nothing really in focus as a flush of red came over his face. “First, no one is to tell him that anything happened. No need to give him ideas,” Inadi said as he slowly shifted his head to Haku. “Second, let's go with Haku's idea. Surely there has to be a game the dragon would like to play.” The boy seemed to be in a monotone shock, unsure of how to really handle the awkward situation. This was something he was probably never going to live down ever. He suddenly began wishing the dragon was a lot bigger and a lot more vicious so it could swallow him whole at this exact moment in time. It would surely be a lot less painful than this.
