Hate to break it to you but that's what cities are for... manufacturing. Always have been and always will. I mean, what's the point in having sciences labs if you can't build new things to put into the science labs? They need one another. Science advances technology, then technology enables those discoveries to build new devices and further science. After all, Janus designed and built a bunch of devices in his secret lab... a feat only possible if he had access to some sort of manufacturing processes. It wasn't like he could have smuggled such things through the Stargate after all. Otherwise, what's the point in a secret lab?

As for making ZPM's it world require a significant energy source. It's hard to say how much since the ZPM's get less powerful with every appearance but no matter what it'd be fairly impressive. I could easily see the settlement at Taranis using geothermal energy to slowly craft a ZPM over many years. Other than that, a fusion reactor hanging over a gas giant might work, or a solar collection ring in close proximity to a star.

As for armouries, why wouldn't the Ancients have access to small arms? It's only prudent. They had no security forces? Their puddle jumpers were armed, why not their people? I don't buy it.

Yeah small arms, but they only had little stun blaster thingies.

Also the whole point in Atlantis was to get a new start. Yes they did science stuff but most this science stuff involved sensors so they only really had to manufacture little crystals. I don't see how Atlantis would be a valuable base to us. IF you want a valuable base get a siege station or shipyard from Homeworld. They'd be far more valuable than a pretty city doing science.

Or... Island-1 from a Macross Colonization fleet. Five million citizens, manufacturing capabilities, fish and fauna, and most importantly... J-Pop singers!

Or perhaps we should all heed the words of Raidne. The words that say no City Ships.

GM PCs still need to follow the restrictions.

Atlantis probably has some manufacturing and buisiness districts, but it's no weapons plant. Either way, it's obviously not making an appearance here, as you all know perfectly well.

+WrongEndofTheRainbow:
I'm highly amused by the idea of a building suddenly appearing in high Tatooine orbit. But there are some unaddressed issues that I noticed.
1) The Citadel isn't airtight. Not to say that parts of it wouldn't be, but on the whole, it's made for atmospheric transfer and entry - even if you're dropping it from an transuniversal portal. You'd have quite a job of sealing it up, and would likely lose a lot of atmosphere. Force fields wouldn't be much help, either, because they seem to be configured to only prevent organic matter from passing through. Even if you did reconfigure them, they still wouldn't cover the whole building, or even most of it.
2) You've got a substantially larger amount of forces than pretty much anyone else here. Then again, with the likely atmospheric leak, that might be reduced.
3) I don't quite see the Combine playing nice with anybody. Sure, your Citadel's "crew" might play nice (because they're essentially stranded anyway), but as soon as contact is made again, then there's just going to be an invasion. Maybe I'm wrong, but what else do the Combine do?
4) People have already pointed out the multiversal empire vs. multiversal empire thing. That can be sorted out with some talking about respective back stories, though.
5) This is actually an argument in your favor - despite the larger amount of forces, despite the multiverse problem and the Combine will invade problem, I'm almost tempted to allow you in. You can't make more Stalkers (no Nova Prospekt) or any other human-cyborg-Combine-things, you've got no thrusters, and you won't have much atmosphere or CO2 scrubbers or O2 tanks or astrogational sensors.

Overall, I like the idea. But you need to address those issues before you can play it.

If you ask nicely Raidne might let you keep some that were already in launch tubes :P

^That'll work. The rest were lost in some quantum disentanglement technobabble, or were ejected out the hull in a breach, or are too dangerous to actually keep around because they're spewing gamma radiation everywhere, or are completely useless due to misaligned zero-point targetting gyroscopic technobabble, or something.

While most of my forces are spaceworthy, that says little to their ability to maneuver. While they could survive in space, I'll probably be losing a lot to Tatooine orbit, where they burn up in the atmosphere. Not to mention I'll probably get a lot of Stalkers flash frozen, meaning that'll hit my main ability to repair damage. As for the Combine inevitably invading, I'm planning to hold off any communication whatsoever until the end of the RP, that being said, it could very well extend the RP where instead of the Kiith as the enemy, it's the Combine.

As for the multiversal empire problem, yes, I'm perfectly willing to have a talk about how they could fit together backstory-wise.

Incidentally. To everyone but our latest ship (DarkWolf) there'll be a radio call waiting for you, basically telling you to identify yourself. This basically happened immediately after you appeared so if you then went on to identify yourself you can go on to ignore it or to reply to it I guess.

Kith, are the enemy.

Kiith, are your friends (I hope. I'd prefer not to fight potential allies....).

The word Kiith basically means clan or tribe in the Hiigaran language. Just remember how fond of double letters my people are and it should be easy to keep it straight...

Hell, DarkWolf. You can have a Squawk ident as well as soon as this next collab is up.

(Squawk ident is the "Attention Unidentified vessel, this is the Battlestar Columbia. Identify yourself or we will be forced to take hostile action. Repeat: This is the battlestar Columbia Identify yourself or we will be forced to take hostile action.)

Due to all the unknowns flying around (SW ships) we've given up doing that to SW ships who just ignored me. You can ignore it too if you want, I mean we don't expect a response let alone one we will understand. (I am yet to learn how Ultra Magnus scanning my ship lets him know what language I speak in)

He didn't scan the ship, but scanned the space around the ships for soundwave transmissions. Kinda like the old fashion way of listening to a radio. Once they had your frequency, they listened to your language and matched it up with previously identified speech patterns. Then the computer attempted to translate Cybertronian into said speech patterns.

Ergo, the transmission was in extremely broken..whatever language they speak on the Columbia. Is it English? I mean, they're human, right?

I believe the Imperiums primary language is Latin... But, didn't you know that, for some reason, every advanced race in the universe speak perfect english?

Just going to go with the hull breach explanation, don't want anybody to get the wrong idea when the ship ejects all their broken torpedoes.

Edited. Dropped available quantum torps to 3, disabled some transporters, and finished bios.

Uh. I have friends from all over the world after travelling. Their all human, their primary language must be English, right?

Silly assumption. Colonials speak Caprican primarily which is not English as it is before English. As it is before the current Earth we are settled on. So it would be unlikely that they would speak English, only to change into all those really old languages just to change back to English. Due to a lot of Gaelic references and all the notable Greek ones is hwy I have surmised it is similar, similar to a mutilated old old Greek/Gaelic hybrid.

I know next to nothing about Battlestar Galactica. I was assuming quite a lot when I made that statement. I was assuming BG was based in the future, not the past. I was also assuming that everyone would speak English, purely because English is a major modern day language, and that the world was united/conquered/or whatever by an English speaking country.

I suppose Chinese is a more reliable guess, due to their importance in modern politics..

Actually German is becoming more and more popular due to their rise. I mean their economy is doing well.

Though yarp, BSG is set in the past.

How does that work, anyway?

I mean, if the ancient past was filled with starships and sentient robots..What happened to it all? Or is that never explained in the show?
