Did some reading too, even though I'm not in the roleplay :P Good stuff. Life has been stressful lately, so reading about things blowing up and a questionable encounter between a human and a Krogan ("Just once!") serves for some entertainment.

Glad you're getting enjoyment out of it! If people are entertained when they aren't actively involved, I suppose you're doing something right.

Honestly, I'm impressed with the quality of the roleplay. You clearly know the lore and that's really nice to see; my nerd heart cries when I see a lot of lore contradictions. Add to that the fact that you all seem to know what you're doing when it comes to writing, and you've got my attention. There isn't really much out there that I want to join right now, but this is the first roleplay - at least outside of those made by the group of friends I came to RPGuild with - that has interested me, so I figured I'd at least read along :D. And in the event that a chance to join ever opens up in the future, I'd at least like to be informed as to what has occurred by then, so I read.

So... has anyone else started a new game of Mass Effect? I haven't played the series since I experienced the ending of Mass Effect 3 and was left heartbroken and desolated in a field of hopelessness, but I'm understating just how I felt. The RP still sparked my interest.

I actually thought of replaying the trilogy not long ago (maybe inspired by this RP, heh). The last time I played Mass Effect I was halfway through my second playthrough of Mass Effect 3. You're right; the ending sucked. It's not an unpopular opinion though. Still, it's a great series with a very detailed world to immerse yourself in. I might end up playing through the trilogy again soon. It's just a real pain in the ass to play the first Mass Effect, so just thinking about it makes me not want to replay it. Don't get me wrong; it's a good game, especially back in its day, but it's obviously very outdated. Mass Effect 2 on the other hand, is a pleasure to play through even now.

I probably won't hunt down people who showed interest (on account of goldfish-like memory), but do check back periodically. You never know when there's going to be a recruitment drive.

I feel like the only person in the world who couldn't care less if the ending was a pile of crap. I'm not going to let 20 minutes overrule 60+ hours of the rest of the series. I've probably done 4 play throughs from ME1 to the end of 3, including most of the DLC?

I already knew the ending wouldn't live up to the promise of having the choices matter; having the rachni show up regardless of what you did in ME1 and the Human-Reaper remains in the Cerberus base regardless of how you ended up choosing to end ME2 told me enough. Considering they tried to make choice matter and bring all the narrative threads together into something that was somewhat coherent is honestly an admirable enough job, considering the series was kind of a pioneer for the whole making and living with your choices and carrying over save files thing.

Besides, the Citadel DLC more than made up for any shortfalls the original ending (I'm actually okay with the extended cut) had.

As someone who just finished ME3 for the first time last weekend, these are pretty much my thoughts exactly. The ending was sort of "meh" (I actually didn't think it was horrible, but then again I've only ever experienced the Extended Cut), but ME3 as a whole was an amazing experience that almost entirely lived up to my expectations. I was actually surprised to find how much the game affected me; it wasn't until after I'd officially completed the trilogy that I realized what an amazing ride it had been.

Yeah, will do.

Like I said, I don't have anything better to do, so I'm content with waiting. I have a cool character in mind for when - and if - spots open. But it's a little different and will probably require your permission (and cooperation). I think it'd be a cool little twist though, if it were to be accepted, which kinda makes me geek-out a bit thinking about it. Still, I don't expect you to - and nor do I want you to - change up the set up you have going with the eight-player limit just because I - some random guy you don't even know - want to join :P So yeah, I'll wait.

.... in sadness, in this dark corner.

No amount of shitty ending is going to lessen the impact of curing the genophage (MORDIN WHYYYY) or that heart pounding excitement of when the fleets arrive at Earth.

I actually haven't completed ME3. I keep trying to play Multiplayer to boost my "Galactic Readiness" for the final battle on Earth, but with how often connection to the game drops, and the fact that it goes down to 50% if you don't play like every day, it's nearly impossible. As such... never ended up finishing it. I might try to this week though.

*Obvious spoilers ahead*

By far one of the most memorable moments for me was on Rannoch. I played a neutral Shepard who was a bit of an ass. It turns out it's best to stick to either Renegade or Paragon. I hadn't had any problems until then though (except in Zaeed's loyalty mission, where I didn't have enough of either karma to convince him to get over Vito. But even then it didn't matter much 'cause he ended up surviving the Suicide Mission anyway, regardless of loyalty). It wasn't until I got to Rannoch that it really hit me hard when I didn't have enough of either karma to convince the Quarians and the Geth to form an alliance. I had to choose between them and that was truly a heart-wrenching decision. I ended up choosing to side with the Quarians after I convinced myself that the Quarians, being organics with a long history of evolution and whatnot, deserved to live on more than the Geth.

I still felt like crap though, since the Geth weren't just mindless robots; they had developed and were about to become truly sentient before I cut their existence short. Gunning Legion down was the worst thing I did, probably. And we're talking about a Renegade-leaning Shepard here, who had done plenty of bad things. But nothing compared to gunning Legion down. I shot him more than once too, for whatever reason, which only made me feel worse.

I agree Mass Effect is still one of the best game series I've ever played, but that doesn't change the fact that the ending was really disappointing (I first played it original, no extended cut).A deus ex machina, almost literally, comes up and provides an explanation that has had really no buildup. You get the feeling that Dark Matter was going to come into play, with Kal'Reegar and Gianna Parisini both suggesting that they're investigating something big related to Dark Matter in 2, and then they both get written out of ME3. Then the three choices at the end are all terrible... Shepard transforming into the controller of the Reapers, destroying his humanity (the very thing he was fighting for), Shepard destroying the Reapers, committing a genocide of Geth and EDI along the way, or the synthesis ending, which, in the words of Mordin, is one of the worst possibilities for life forms (no soul, replaced by tech...).

I. Am. The. Very. Model....

Of a scientist salarian....

I barely, I just BARELY saved Tali and somewhat Legion. Ooh, if I hadn't saved Zaal'Koris, Tali woulda been dead in a canyon and the Quarian race extinct. I actually skimmed by on my asshairs the entire ride, barely getting any of the best possible outcomes, except the Krogan one because I had that on lockdown, luckily. Only the people you couldn't save in the best outcome ever died. Like... I somehow even rescued Miranda and I heard a lot of people had big issues with saving her in her daddeh's lair. Woo, looking back on everything now, I realize how lucky I'd been to get everything in place and to have actually cared enough about certain choices to have pursued them relentlessly.

However, anyone else kinda weirded out about some of the Renegade options? I mean, in ME2 Renegade was pretty much all around badass Shepard and in the third one s/he became this cold hearted anti-hero. I mean, Renegade is an anti-hero in itself, but I think ME2 drew some pretty defined lines between Renegade and Ruthless and, from what I remember, ME3 Renegade was pretty ruthless.

Oh, and ME3 was a masterpiece about 95% of the way through and I still play through it. I've got so many hours logged into that game. Overall, it was very, very satisfying and what sequels and the ending of a trilogy should have been like. It leaves questions up with the ending, sure, but it answers pretty much everything else. I agree with Mosis that it makes you realize how much you care about the choices you made and the friendships you've forged. It's the only game to date where I've literally had to have a box of tissues beside me. I'm just glad no one had the sense to disturb me whilst my face was immersed in ME3 for an entire month. And then the Citadel DLC was just....unbelievably amazing. I thought I was done crying and then the ending of t. Omg. OOOOMG. The picture with everyone in it but Thane and Mordin and Legion (and Wrex). QQ Kaidan, despite not liking him in the first game, was literally mah boo.

Anyway, I'm gonna fix up some of Loral's stuff that you pointed out (thank you very much for your criticism, Derv :3 and good to see you again too lel) and then I'm going to try and whip up a post. Might be a bit because I've got another RP I need to post for.

EDIT: Holy rambling Rambo, Batman!

My Shepard's story was pretty rough in terms of how many people died, but I like it that way. There isn't a good story without tragic loss along the way. The crew of the Normandy was almost completely wiped out on two occasions (first when the Normandy was destroyed, and then when I was too late to rescue the crew of the Normandy V2 from the Collectors). In addition to that, Zaeed and Miranda died, as well as Legion. And, of course, all the people that die regardless of what you do.
