Given everything that had happened in the past few hours, Vash wasn’t too surprised at the sight of the reptilian creature before them. While no such thing existed where he came from, he didn’t have a hard time believing that something like it could exist here. He was, however, somewhat surprised by the creature’s words.

While just knowing that this being knew of the Viewer and his challenges would be shocking enough, Vash couldn’t help but turn his head around at the sight of all the lights turning on around them — this place was a real, bustling city, and somehow it just wasn’t apparent until now. Sharp senses of hearing, too… he noted silently, before turning back to the reptilian. “Well um, the doors didn’t exactly open for us. We just happened to have someone with us who could break the security system, eheheheh…” He answered, laughing nervously. “At any rate, the Viewer seems to be common knowledge around here. What’s your relation to him?” he asked, wondering whether the Viewer was just some well-known legend around here, or whether he ruled over these people like some sort of king, or even a god. Like he said before, best to learn about this place as much as possible before the challenges began.

"Don't you think you're making a bit too much fuss about a cat?" came a voice from the shadows as a green-haired girl with very pronounced dog ears stepped from the shadows. It wasn't exactly clear how she'd gotten there without being noticed, and in truth she didn't know either. "I mean, it's not going to hurt you."

Joker

Joker was walking around when he arrived at what seemed like a city of some sort,"Well that is convenient oh i wonder if i can get a signal to call Harley" The clown prince chuckling to himself walking to the streets of the building getting a few looks form the citizens. The clown did not care if they looked just as long as he can escape this island,But a sudden thought came to mind what if he had some fun with these island bumpkins.

Connor McLeod

Connor finally made it to the city but could see a large crowd in the middle of the town,The immortal walked over to the crowd and to a young man with a blond sort of flatop (That's Vash by the by)."Excuse me but what is going on with this crowd?" He asked the youngster in his raspy voice looking at him and what he was wearing,It didn't look like something someone sane would wear but that is saying much since he is wearing a overcoat and a katana sword form his dead friend.

Mokou

Floating around alone, Mokou was left with little to do other than to watch and observe, when something brightly coloured struck her completely out of nowhere. The second was avoided, but the few she had to dodge made it clear where they were coming from. Something about the colours made her blood boil, and the white-haired girl rushed off towards their origin...
Kaguya!

The screaming boy made Kaguya look up, thus seeing what appeared to be bright fireworks in the distance. This was something that she could help with, and colourful danmaku was launched in the right direction to join the rest in equally-colourful, but somewhat painful if they hit, explosions. Then she went back to looking at the screaming guy, whilst the bunny rabbit hopped over to Whitney to be petted and fawned over.

This proved to be the right decision, since the moon princess was promptly engulfed in flames, then tackled by one hundred and thirty pounds of vengeful Heian noble, who seemed quite happy to slam her head against the ground.

Ba'al wandered about the top floors some, using enhanced strength to knock doors open when they were locked, so he could get into rooms. It was to collect supplies after all, and he brought them back to his selected domain. Nothing amazing, just some medical supplies, a bit of food, and such, but it never hurt to be prepared. Without nearby access to a Sarcophagus he had to be a bit more careful than usual, lest his host suffer a terminal injury in the course of these trials.

Having stocked up on what he could, Ba'al picked up a bottle of nice champagne that had been left in one of the rooms and poured himself a glass. He took slow sips, savoring the flavor until it was drained, before pouring himself another glass. He was a System Lord after all, and the (former) ruler of a galactic empire, so he could afford some time to relax. Sleep wasn't as essential, so he would be ready as is for the trials ahead. And getting drunk was difficult too, which was nice.

But he couldn't rest forever. No, he needed to be planning, working to secure his victory. He needed to find allies and make links, spin webs of deceit and tricks that worked in his favor. So, champagne glass held in one hand and bottle in the other, he departed, heading back down to the ground floor via elevator, to see if the others were still there.

The elevator arrived with a 'ding', and he stepped out to see some still remaining in the lobby. There was no one there particularly, but he did see activity outside, and he went to see who was there, and learn more of the people he had seen from the roof with Mokou. Stepping outside, he was all sort of creatures, some humanoid, some not, some giving him angry looks, others more curious, and some just showing general indifference. He didn't care either way so long as they didn't bother him though.

He found Saber, Vash, and some others were engaged in a conversation with some red skinned lizard type thing, that was also humanoid. Ba'al was intrigued and stepped over to join them, examining the new arrival with a careful eye. After all, while humans were common in the galaxy, humanoid life in itself, wasn't as much. It did have a passing familiarity to an Unas, but it didn't hold very well.

"Pardon me," he said as he joined the small grouping. "I was busy exploring upstairs. I don't suppose anyone is interested in some champagne? I find it's good for helping me relax. When one leads, it helps to have an appreciation of the finer things in life." He gestured with the champagne bottle, as if to back up his statement, liquid swirling in the glass he held in his other hand.

While everyone else was busy exploring and so on, Morito decided he'd take this chance to explore on his own. He'd at least gotten some basic level of information about the situation by sticking with this group so far and a lot of them seemed competent enough, but as long as he had to keep acting under this helpless child routine he felt like he wouldn't get anywhere fast. So while the blonde knight went off to explore Morito slipped away and intentionally got himself a little 'lost' through a few alleys to create some distance from the others, though hopefully they wouldn't even notice.

After that he exited the back alleys and walked through the streets, noticing for the first time that both they and the skies were now full of a multitude of strange creatures and bustling inhabitants. If Morito was skeptical of The Viewer and this being some sort of nexus between dimensions before, this just about confirmed it. That meant the upcoming challenges could be potentially anything. But if he learned more about this city maybe he could figure out what the first one might be. If nothing else knowing the lay of the land would be useful.

Following the general flow of the crowd seemed to lead Morito to a bar of some kind. Morito generally liked bars for this sort of job, they were almost always home to people who knew something of use, even if they had to be persuaded. On the other hand his...appearance tended to make getting into them a difficult prospect, let alone convincing the patrons to take him seriously. But maybe he could use that to his advantage.

Morito sidled into the bar and hopped up onto a stool without bothering to look around except furtively, all nervousness.

"U-um...excuse me but I'm lost a-and um...could I have a glass of milk? I feel like I haven't had anything to drink in d-days..." Worked almost every time. Now to either slip information out of the bar patrons with his cuteness act or...let them lower their guards and beat it out of them. Whichever worked would suffice, although...secretly Morito hoped it was the latter.

Joker

The clown prince had found his way into a bar which to the criminal seemed familiar to him of the many ventures there to contact the many goons for his jobs,He walked over to the bartender with a wide grin on his face resting his hands on the table of the bar."Hello barkeepy i want a..." The clown thought for moment rubbing his chin then snapping his fingers,"A milk that is what a want...ooooooooooh and make it snappy" He said in a sinister sounding voice. While he was waiting he turned his head to face Morito his bright green eyes looking him one over with a grin on his face.

"So you are you yokel or a stranger like me?" He asked tapping his fingers on the table.

The Bar

It was a bar that looked like more or less like it came out of a Western, with the swinging doors and the old-timey exterior with barrels for chairs. Really, it was a straight out saloon. At this time of night, there weren't many customers and those who were left were either dead drunk or rather shady looking characters cooling off after certain escapades. A wanted poster was in the corner, studded with darts and bullet holes. Hazy smoke drifted about the lantern lighted exterior, giving off a slightly surreal scene.

The bartender looked down at his newest customer and quirked an eye. A rather tall bald man with an impressively groomed mustachio, he gave the kid the once over while he was doing the stereotypical wiping a glass thing. "...Well..." Pausing in his cleaning, the bartender took out a carton of milk- which promptly stood out considering how modern it was. it even had a cartoon cow on the side. "Here ya go, sonny. You ain't the first one to ask this, and likely not the last one." An amused gleam came into the man's eye as he poured a glass of the white stuff and expertly slid it to Morito. "Anyways, ya look a bit lost. Mebbe yer a new guy to the City?"

The Hotel

"Wells... Like you guys, I'm stuck in this City. Same for just about everyone and everything here." The lizard said in his gravelly voice, pointing a thumb backwards to indicate all the other beings loitering about. "And well, I've been here for quite a while. Anyways, I'm boring. You guys are pretty much the hot topic here! Yer Challengers! The only ones that can free the others trapped in this place through winning the Trials! Though... there were other Challengers... and they've either died or failed..." Now the lizardman looked a bit less sure, doubt creeping into his voice. "But here's hoping you guys can actually last the 21 Days!" He said somewhat awkwardly, pumping his fist in the air.

At this point in time, Shiroe popped his head out of another window. "Why don't you come on up here so we can have a proper talk then? I would rather like to hear what you have to say... and it would greatly help us..." The tactician said, smiling serenely. "We have refreshments too." At this, the somewhat nosy lizard made a mad dash towards the door, rather delighted he could actually get close to the newest group of chosen. Shiroe meanwhile was rapidly churning the gears in his head and wondering how to wring every scrap of info from the gossipy Bangaa. After a few seconds, excited whooping came from the lobby where the red lizard was exulting in actually making it past the field that kept everyone but the Challengers out. Smiling wickedly, Shiroe got ready for a little Q and A.

The Copse

"H-h-hey, you've never been repeatedly thrown in a hole filled with starving cats while tied up and strung up with fish products! And I'm not a coward!" Ranma barked back, angry at being called a coward. He was so angry that he actually bent the tree top at a 90 degree angle with a loud snap before it too fell down on the ground, this time throwing up a shower of white powder at the impact. "I am not a coward! I just don't like c-c-c-c-c... furry fanged things very much! Especially when they're close to me!" The most ironic thing was that at the moment, his hair was actually fluffing up like a cat's and his pigtail was ramrod straight and defying gravity somehow.

As the young swordsman was thinking of a way to evacuate the boy from the tree he was hiding in, something else drew his attention. Namely, some kind of cow-like being poking him, then gesturing at the boy and the tree he was in. "So... You want to help me?," Felt asked the cow-like creature. As silly as it might seem to others, Felt had seen stranger shapes for sapient -- or at least somewhat intelligent -- beings to be in. "Okay, that's good, but how are you planning on getting him out? Not to mention, does he even want to get out?"
The young Alchemist turned his head towards Whitney. "uhm... Whitney, was it? Could you call your cat summon back? I don't think the guy likes her." Well, that much was obvious enough, but hey, someone had to say it, right?

It was at about this point in time that lots of things happened at the same time. For one, some sort of multicolored bursts of light could be seen in the distance, convincing Kaguya to shoot some kind of energy-based projectile at said light bursts, which in turn was quickly followed by the beauty bursting into flames and smashed against the ground by... something. More urgent matters making him forget about the boy up in the tree, Felt ran over to Kaguya, who apparently was under attack by some kind of female humanoid flame spirit. Wasting no time to talk with the obviously hostile force, the young alchemist made a horizontal slash at Kaguya's assailant. "Look out, we're under attack!," he shouted out to anyone to hear. As much as this might be stating the obvious, there was always the chance that someone somehow managed to miss this.

Meanwhile, the boy who'd rushed up the tree at blinding speed a bit earlier -- rightfully -- got annoyed at being called a coward and explained just what fueld his feline phobia, breaking off a good chunk of the tree in the process and sending it coasting towards the ground. As unluckily as Kaguya was for being the first one to get attacked, the result of Felt moving away from his previous position meant that he didn't get hit by the falling piece of wood impaling just that spot. Although the young alchemist was completely oblivious of this fact, his sword could not help put gasp through his nonexistant teeth.

Whitney was really happily petting the bunny when the green haired girl appeared.
”Your ears are so cute!” Whitney shouted when she saw her. She didn’t think the ears were real but instead a creative costume. “Can I try them, please?”

True, this was a highly random place. But at least there were lots of cute things. So maybe it wasn’t too bad there. Whitney still hoped that she would have known how to get back home, though. That would have made feel a bit less uneasy.

The alchemist boy asked Whitney to take her cat away. Whitney wondered a while. On one hand she was really annoyed at the boy in the tree. On the other hand, the alchemist boy was pretty cute so she could maybe try to make a good impression. Miltank liked the boy as well. She had rarely met a person who could understand her as well as him.

Whitney didn’t ever make the decision. A loud crash made her forgot everything. The next thing she realised was alchemist boy shouting that they were under attack. The fire was the first thing which caught Whitney’s attention. Just like she would have counted one plus one is two, she calculated what an attack plus fire meant.

“Bibarel! Come out and use surf!” The beaver Pokémon materialized out of her Poké ball. She created a huge uncontrollable wave of water towards Kaguya and Mokou. Whitney hopped back because surf was a very broad move which tended to hit almost everything around the user.

At the same time Miltank ran towards the fallen boy. She wasn’t sure if there was anything she could do, but at least she had to check if he was okay. Delcatty, who had jumped down from the tree, was also about to come closer but Miltank stopped her. At least she could help the boy that much.

Saber

Saber could at least try and piece together some things by what she had heard from the red dragon man. So this place was... some kind of assemblage of people and locations? It explained all the different buildings being slammed together in the same place. After a few moments of silent contemplation, she opened her mouth to speak again. But the shifty-looking one(one of the shifty ones), the man in glasses proposed heading inside to hear more information. For a few moments, Saber was unsure of this, but it was clear that as long as he was allowed in the dragon man would be perfectly safe.

While she wanted to learn more of the challenges, at the same time she felt scouting the city and learning more of its inhabitants was of equal importance.

"I will return after I have finished scouting the city," Saber said, simply, turning and proceeding out to do just that. It had to be done.
Jakuzure Nonon

Well things were now going completely insane. The boy was still flipping out over a cat(seriously?) and now... now Kaguya was on fire. And there was water and the white-haired fiery girl from before had showed up to be the one to ignite the princess.

"... Jeez, do I have to clean up this stupid mess?"

And then... Nonon smiled. Just a little. Hey, it was a lot more interesting then listening to morons and airheads!

And so, she activated it.

Her Three-Star Goku uniform.

Her body was engulfed in technicolor stars as her conductor's outfit erupted off of her. It unraveled, loosening, the fibers composing it realigning and shifting as lights covered Nonon's uncovered form. And then it snapped back together, covering her body once more in the form of a dark pink skintight bodysuit with a bone theme. The jet-cannons mounted on her back and shoulders kicked up, rocketing the small pink-haired girl into the air. So, it was time to sort out this big weird mess, wasn't it? Well, maybe it'd be fun!

"Three-Star Goku Uniform: Symphony Regalia Tempo!" declared Nonon, cheerfully, "Troublemakers like you idiots get to listen to my song!"

The girl waggled her finger down at the now-drenched attacker. She had a feeling the attacks weren't going to actually kill her, for one thing.

Two People Who Just Got Killed Again

Consumed as she was with thoughts of revenge, habit, and relief at Kaguya's eternal reappearance whenever it seemed like she might be stuck without someone to obsess over for another great length of time, there was little that Mokou could do to prevent being, say, cut right open, and even less against the huge wave of water. Fortunately, this mostly just resulted in steam because constantly producing flaming wings was pretty easy--and constant heat trumped a brief surge of water. All the distractions, though, did force her to abandon killing Kaguya repeatedly.

At least she'd got the one death in.

"What the hell was that for?" Mokou asked, snapping at the swordsman and looking more 'annoyed' than 'recently attacked with lethal force', "Kaguya's still fine!"

The moon princess was, indeed, getting up, and stood straight at about shoulder height, pouting "Mokou-chaaaan, my neck hurts."

That unsure feeling Sazh had continued to flare up listening to the creature's words. So everyone that was here had been here, for who knows how long. And it wasn't just them; there were other Challengers, too. But they had all died, or otherwise failed the challenges. None of that was at all particularly reassuring to the l'Cie and his experience with gods. Who was to say that this time would not be different, and that the Viewer was just being insincere?

The mage with the glasses suddenly popped his head out of a higher window and invited the red creature inside to elaborate further. Apparently getting inside the hotel was an honor, to the whooping lizard-thing. Sazh had the same idea as Saber: as tempting as it was to learn further of this world, they all set out here to do missions, and missions was what Sazh was going to do.

As the pilot looked back to the snowy forest they had come from, Sazh caught sight of a burning streak across the sky, amidst a flurry of fireworks. The blaze flew down sharply before crashing down... somewhere in the forest. A handful of moments later, and there was a dim, but wild stream of lights emitting from around that same area.

Then it hit him: Wasn't that spot at least very close to where they had come from?

"Uh... hey, fellas," Sazh spoke up nervously, "I think we might be getting some commotion back in that copse." He was motioning for nobody in particular to follow, while sidling forward to strain out what might've been various shouts coming from the forest.

Ba'al held on to his drink, taking the occasional sip from it as he listened to the ongoing conversation with the lizard man, as it were. The news that if they survived and yet failed would result in them getting stuck here was..less than pleasant, but Ba'al was certain that he would succeed, end this game, and gain the wish that he desired, for the power he wanted.

It was then that Shiroe poked his head out the window and invited the thing in to talk and learn more about the Trials. The creature (he did not yet have a name for it), certainly seemed happy to pierce the lobby, which would indicate that this place was normally off limits for those not Challengers. A good piece of information to know. And yet, at the same time, the one who called herself Saber was moving off to explore the city and learn more. It left Ba'al in a conundrum. Should he go with the humanoid to learn what he could of the upcoming Trials and how to win this contest, or should he go with Saber, and the possibility of building up ties with her, if not trust? Learning of the Trials would help, but surely the Viewer would not be so easy as to replicate the same tasks every time, which meant that the humanoids information would be of limited effectiveness. Better to gain an ally, or at least someone more reluctant to shoot him if it came to it.

"I will come with," he said to Saber, placing his champagne in some random place. He no longer cared for the drink. "With how much we don't know of this place, it would be better to travel in pairs, just as a precaution." He at the same time noted the explosion in the forest, but given how he had seen her flying off, he had to assume Mokou was probably involved, given the light show, and with how advanced she was in terms of abilities, he made the assumption that she was fine. Hok'tar's were tough to kill.

He then looked over to Vash, figuring the warrior was trustworthy enough to recruit for this task. "I would much appreciate it if you could relay to the two of us what information our former Challenger may impart once we get back."

That said, he departed after Saber, quickly falling in beside her as they moved into the city, with it's varied buildings and inhabitants. It was almost like a bazaar on Hebridan, except with an even more confusing mishmash of colors, and not everyone was strictly human either. Still, he had the feeling that conversation would not begin unless he began it, so he took the first step, remarking on something he had noticed before. "Your sword is impressive," he said as they walked. "I have a blade of my own, but sadly it did not come with me. I don't do much fighting with it these days, but I suppose I am a bit of a nostalgic. Comes with age."

Saber

Saber looked over her shoulder. It was the one she had felt was... well, suspicious. And yet, still far less worthy of suspicion then the armored lich remained. Her look said it all. It was a cold look, and wordlessly she acknowledged that Ba'al would follow and that she would be watching carefully. And so, she continued quietly through the crowds in silence. Invisible Air shimmer around her blade as she proceeded in silence, the System Lord walking beside her. And then... he spoke. It was a remark on, well... it was not difficult to discern the nature of her weapon. Invisible Air more or less cloaked its identity and the aspects, rather then what it was. She was a knight, and such a weapon was simply that which a knight would wield. Regardless of how many other weapons she had wielded, the sword was synonymous with knighthood. Indeed, Saber was the only class she was able to be summoned into. After a moment's delay, she spoke.

"A blade is the weapon of a knight," Saber began, "Just as a knight's skills are honed, so to must their blade be honed."

It was a simple statement of what Saber felt was truth. However, at the same time, a knight should be able to use any weapon they must in the service of the people, to defend them from that which would do them harm. Just as a King must use their station to serve the people, a knight must use their weapons to defend them. And Saber was both. And while she still did not trust the man, speaking with him did not do harm. "As my class is Saber, the sword is my weapon wherever I am present."

Saber was not the best conversationalist.

Vash took note of the man (Connor) who’d approached the group, but he found himself a bit too wrapped up in the lizard man’s words to respond right away. The thought that nearly all the Viewer’s previous challengers had died — given the fact that many of the beings surrounding Vash seemed to be near-gods — was a little bit concerning. He tried his best to shrug the concern off, though — the least he could do was try, and worrying so much wouldn’t help him any.

And then, the lizard was invited inside, and next thing he knew, Saber had gone off to scout the city with Ba’al while he was left to gather information back at the Oasis. The situation seemed to change rather quickly. Regardless, Vash nodded at Ba’al. He was rather intrigued by the Bangaa’s words, anyway. “Eh, good luck out there, you two!” Vash called after Ba’al and Saber, attempting to stay upbeat, at least in appearance. “Stay safe!”

After that, he scurried back towards the lizard— or rather, he attempted to, but upon turning around, he nearly ran into Connor. He’d almost forgotten about the guy! “Oh, you know, just getting acquainted with the natives!” he chirped, before hurrying after the Bangaa.

“Soooo…” he spoke up as he caught up with the creature. “Did you get to see the sorts of trials that the others went through? And are they always the same?” he asked, hoping to gain as much useful knowledge for the dangers ahead as possible.

"Do you know what is going on?Why i am here on this island?" He said walking behind him,Looking over at the lizard man in front of them it was quite strange even for a immortal he never saw lizard person before. He wondered if he would get any answers if he could get any form the two because they may just be as helpless as he was right now.

"Um, what the hell, where am I, where is everybody?" Korra wondered as she woke up in what looked like an island, her vision still very blurry and her head hurting. "Tenzin, where are you?" she asked once again while she got up, looking around to find her former mentor, but he was nowhere to be seen. "This has to be a dream, I can't just be here when just moments ago I was in the airship with my friends." she said, now stood up and her vision fully recovered, first she pinched herself, not seeing anything change she began hurling large masses of water her way, hoping she'd wake up. "C'mon, just wake up!" she shouted as she furiously raised a wave from the sea and forced it to crash into her, yet she remained on the island. "Ok... maybe I'm not dreaming." she said in a shaky voice, frightened at the prospect of being stuck on this island.

"Why am I here though, why, why, why?" she began asking, confused as to who, or what would put her on that island. She began to look around, trying to find anybody else who could be there, or signs that there were other people there. After not finding any signs of other she sat down, with no way in sight to leave the island and go back to her friends. Korra looked around one more time, as if looking around again will make her see something she didn't before, and surely enough it did as she noticed a building in the distance. "Well, I guess it's worth a shot." she said to herself as she began making her way towards the building.

Fortunately, one such as Ba'al was used to the kind of cold look that Saber gave him as they departed together. It came with the territory of being an evil megalomaniac, and having to cooperate with people you previously tried to murder/enslave/destroy. Still, he did so much enjoy the times he got to work with the Tau'ri, if only to see their resourcefulness.

It also confirmed that she was not much one for idle chit chat, but he would persist nonetheless. Some insight into a possible foe would be useful as well. He seemed to recall her hanging back with that little boy early on in the meeting (a Goa'uld memory was useful like that), which gave lie to her convictions and beliefs. Protect the weak and those who could not do the same for themselves, it certainly seemed like hallmarks of a knight

Something registered though in her response, and he gave her a curious glance. "Your class? Now that's an interesting phrase. I was under the apparently mistaken impression that that was your name. My apologies." Somehow he didn't think she was really offended, given that Saber was the term she had used up to now, but better to be safe than sorry, yes? "And whom is it you serve? A knight, much less a servant, always has a liege lord."

Moments after his attack hit home, Felt was blasted off of his feet by a powerful surge of water, knocking him off his feet and dragging him across the ground for a bit. Apparently, though, he'd done enough damage to the demoness to not have her attack him in the back during this helpless state. Well, either that or she just really hated water.
Not wanting to take any chances though, the soaked alchemist quickly climbed back to his feet and turned back in the direction the girl should be... only to see that she was no worse for the wear. In fact, the flame-cloaked woman seemed to be little more than annoyed about the fact that she was just 'killed', pointing out the fact that Kaguya was apparently fine too -- which indeed was the case too, or at least far more so than earlier events should have allowed for.

"Wuh?," Felt stammered in confusion, the tip of his sword slowly drooping towards the ground. "But.. how? You were dead, both of you. How are you..." It just flatout didn't make any sense to him. Just moments earlier, Kaguya was lying on the ground, her neck in an unnatural position and her head caved in, to say nothing about the terrible burns all across her body. As for the flame spirit, he had personally sliced her open and was hit with the same blast of water that was meant for her. Yet now both of them were standing in front of them, looking perfectly unharmed. If it weren't for their reactions, there was no clue that the two females were killed mere seconds ago.

Meanwhile, whatever spirit the Azoth was holding sealed was busy with trying to make sense of what just happened. It was quite obvious that both of the two females had some kind of regenerative powers; the only question was what kind. Did they simply heal off any and all injury that came over them before it could truly kill them? Or was it more of a sort of immortality, in that they would completely regenerate upon death. If it was the former case, then it should theoretically be possible to kill them if the injury was severe enough. If it was the second though, there might be no way to kill them without first taking care of said immortality in one way or another. Although it was impossible to be sure of either hypothesis at this point, based on the injuries the two had just recovered from the Azoth feared that the latter case was the closest to reality.
