It is a time when Heroes are needed.

Here in the confines of The City (though we’re not 100% on exactly where “The City” is), villains plot to overthrow the government. Street gangs and organized syndicates control the seedier parts and extend their influence into richer wards. Rumors come in from The Capital (ditto, still not sure precisely where, but it’s not too horribly far away) about domestic entities and international corporations squeezing their way into positions of power. Far to the east, a brilliant scientist mad with power conducts devilish experiments, slowly building a private army of abominations. It is indeed a time for Heroes.

Unfortunately, all they have is you.

The real Heroes, the big-name sirs and madams, are all spoken for - taking on their individual nemeses and banding into super groups to battle the big, scary forces of Ultimate Evil. These guys get the corporate funding, the military contracts. The President shakes their hand. Little kids want to be them when they grow up. They have the keys to several cities. These stalwart defenders of the masses get on cereal boxes and have action figures made in their likeness.

You are not one of these people. I cannot stress this enough.

Don’t get me wrong, you have powers. Most likely, anyway. Hell, you may not have any powers, and just be a hardboiled, Dedicated mundane. Either way, you’re in over your head, despite the fact that you’re still in the shallow end. So, fight the good fight, and above all: have fun with it.

If you are a fan of The Tick, Captain Hammer, or Human Occupied Landfill, this is the game setting for you. If you’ve never heard of these productions before, join in anyway. Just please try not to take yourself too seriously. Point of fact, it’s really best if you take nothing too seriously, at least at first. Those that choose to play in this setting will take on the role of neophyte Heroes. Some are wannabes, some actual persons of heroic potential. You guys are just starting out in a world FILLED with things that are probably more powerful than yourselves. Situations will come up where running up to the bad guys with guns a’blazin’ might not be the best approach.

This game will be very stereotypical. There will be henchmen. There will be cunning traps. People will be kidnapped and stuck in easily escapable deathtraps while the villain walks away, confident that their plans will succeed and the good guys/innocent will die. Banter, actual BANTER will be exchanged. Your Heroes will be half-qualified, but your enemies will be fairly predictable. Join us!

What I need from you:
Craft a character, run the idea past me, and let me make the final cuts to it.

Each character must have an overall theme/gimmick/tie-together for their powers. Keep it modest.

Each character may have THREE skills. These represent non-power abilities, trade skills, combat training, etc.

Each character may have TWO contacts, which may be most anyone. Again, keep it modest.

Give me a detailed description of your character. From there, I will assign numbers to your physical and mental stats. I have lovingly ripped them off from an older RPG, this is just a series of points that help me keep things together. I give advancement for ROLEplaying, not ROLLplaying.

After I spit the stats back at you, form a “Public Bio” for everyone else to see. Whatever you want to share, share. Whatever you want to keep quiet, keep quiet. For inspiration, I like to look at the old profiles at http://classicmarvelforever.com/cast_list/all.htm When we have enough characters to get started, I'll set us up in the IC.

One last thing: You throw the punch. I land it. Tell me your actions, I determine (through my own nefarious means) the outcome. Above all, HAVE FUN WITH IT.

And… begin.

I had to go onto your 'recent posts' to find this. Couldn't find it any other way no matter how hard I tried. Might want to link it to the interest check.

I'm considering a female British student on her gap year, who accidentally frees the Lady Of The Lake of Arthurian Legend from some really crappy prison like a sea shell or something, and the Lady of the Lake develops a crush on the girl and gives her the sword Excalibur, which also gives her the right of True Queen of England. She completely ignores this and focuses on using the indestructable sword to fight crime.

She'd have absolutely no training or experience, and be kind of a loser. Just some random everyday gal who just so happens to have a really cool sword.

The actual Excalibur seems a bit heavy for this kind of game, and I think it's being held on reserve for someone named Pendragon, anyway. I am willing to work with you, though:

"Excalibat", an oversized cricket bat of epic proportion that glows with elemental light for its True Wielder, and is nigh-indestructible. Certain magic-users and creatures will be able to recognize it as an item of greatness. Also, not a problem to get through customs.

@Blackmist16
Post a character concept here or PM it to me, instructions are in the first post. Glad to have you on board.

I like that, actually. That's brilliant.

And it actually means she is only the rightful Queen of Kent, not all of England. Still needs to be given to her by the lady of the lake, though.

Really, really like the concept of this, will begin working on a character.

So far I'm working on the basis of basically a pretty nerdy, weedy guy, studying engineering at college in 'The City'. He will be a tech hero with an array of super lame, half-arsed gadgets and a DIY costume. Is that an okay start before I go ahead and add detail?

Lady of the Lake it is, then. Taken from a branch of one of Avalon's famous apple trees, carved of the horn of mighty stags, whatever works for you. Fill in the details (skills, contacts, backstory, etc.) and I'll put numbers to it. Glad to have Queenie in the rosters. Well, almost.

@Rubix
I'm with you so far. Make sure that you detail each of the gadgets, and the level of halfassedry each one posesses. Concept approved.

So, we have a Relic Hero and a Tech Hero. Who's the next contestant?

I am here to express interest!.

RIght now I have an idea of the classic wannabe side kick of some super hot super hero. YOu know the usual clueless "i'm her side kick, she just dosen't know it yet." He would follow in the heroes footsteps and try to be just like her. And by that he means going and getting in touch with an Alien!. The Alien in question would be a failed scientist looking for another test subject, while testing on my character we find out that his cells are all 'open' meaning they can absorb some type of other matter or energy. giving him some sort of power relating to rither the sun,stars or something. What do you think?

Seems a touch busy. I'm getting from this that this is an Alter with the capacity for solar energy absorption. Former sidekick to an alien scientist that is far, far away but is trying to emulate anyway. I'm a bit confused at the concept. Streamline for me, please.

Okay so my character would be healthy bordering unhealthyily obbsessed with one female superhero, who happens to have gotten her powers from an ancient alien speices. Wanting to appeal to her and become her sidekick he went to find an alien to bestow upon him powers of his own, now in doing this he found an alien who was an amature biological engineer on his home planet and wanted to work on a living speices for an experiment.

During some tests He found out that my characters cells were almost like stemcells, they were awaiting seconday orders. And so the alien would expose him too a healthy dose of something from outer space giving the ability absorb and manipulate that certain energy. BUt obviously something would go wrong. That I haven't figured out yet.

I can deal with the second paragraph. Metahuman, powers didn't express until he was exposed to something particularly nasty and/or otherwise lethal. Would have limited ability to start off with, and would have to recharge. If you want to have an obsession with an established hero, put her as a contact with the understanding that she would only very rarely be available for physical assistance.

Ya that's fine and as for the energy he can manipulate/absorb I can get back to you on that.

@Sigil

What do you think of him being able to manipulate Plasma?

So okay like you said I have a concept...

Okay this man named Wilson A. Johnson was an infantry man in the civil war of the colonies in North America he was killed in a shooting those many years ago, he has been dead a very very long time and when a 'Reaper of Death' or a Handmaiden of Death was sifting through older souls he found a valiant young soul who sacrificed his life to save a man from being shot to death and the Handmaiden was astounded by the bravery and bravura of the young man and he knew this soul was restless so the maiden had a long conference with Death and they came to the conclusion to release the soul and give him another chance at life but give him the gifts of the dead only minor gifts of course and to shortly provide him with the needed information about the modern world they also deemed him a fellow Reaper of Death and gave him the ceremonial Scythe that grants him Etherealness for a limited amount of time.

He was told that the world needed more heroes and that he needed to reap the souls of evil and banish them from their existences

Johnson had a hard time fitting in the world but got used to it.

He specializes in military combat and he was once a farm boy.

(BTW Sigil love the Avatar Red Mages are awesome!!!)

Ok, not bad. Nice concept, very Frank Miller. Couple of points:

We're going for more of a silver age, comical thing here. Trying to avoid gratuitous killing and soul collection. Foiling bad guys, maybe get your own theme music eventually. Think Adam West Batman. Guys just starting out as Heroes in a world that needs them, and they're not the flashy "A List" guys. These heroes are The Other Guys. Hokey, homespun heroics with a cheese factor of a Limburger factory explosion. Comically flawed individuals.

Come at me with something low powered and full of personality.

(and yes, Red Mage is my hero)
