Lies come in many, many forms, from simple white lies to blown out conspiracies. But that is all that is really certain for a lie, the smallest lies can be the hardest to say, and the biggest lies can turn out to be quite easy. When lies are so variable, what exactly constitutes a good lie? Show us how a small lie can cover the greatest secrets, and show us how the grandest lie is conceived in the mind of a child. Show us a lie that makes us confused, a lie that will make us tense, a lie that makes us gasp, and the best lie will be the winner amongst them all.

  • People's Choice - The main prize goes to the winner of the popular vote, only this time, it'll be a little different. Instead of voting for the outright best entry, we want you to vote for whichever entry you consider to have the best lie regardless of overall quality. The 'best' lie may be hard to classify, but that's the challenge, isn't it?
  • Staff Picks - RPGC staff each select winners from the bonus categories

The theme this time is specific in some respects but is still rather broad and some may find it difficult to pin down a particular kind of piece they want to make. To that end, these bonus categories will act as a suggestion for you if you need it, and it may even pose a challenge for those advanced writers out there.

  • Illuminati Confirmed - It's a conspiracy!
  • When life gives you onions - Just as ogres have layers, good secrets have layers too. Some secrets also make you cry when you cut them up, so be careful with that.
  • Insidious Whispers - Many of the darkest secrets are merely whispered amongst a privileged few. Show us a lie truly steeped in darkness, but whatever happens to it is up to you.
  • All's well, ends well - Not all lies end badly, liars often have the happy ending after all.

  • Follow all general contest rules.
  • Send your entry to @rpgc entry with the title of your entry in the subject line by August 17th
  • Be sure to mention any bonus categories you're hoping to win -- we'll consider everyone for everything, but it can't hurt to remind us!
  • All entries will be posted (anonymously) on August 17th, after which everyone can read, discuss, and of course vote for their favorite.

Remember:
send entries to @rpgc entry by August 17th

I've never lost a contest after submitting a piece based on WWII.

Guess it's time to cover the bit of the war with my favorite vehicles and least favorite events. And lots of lies, told both then and now. So I hope you're ready for me to bash some royal families and major corporations as if I'm running for political office as a Communist.

No points for figuring out what part of the war I'm turning into a space opera.

(I have high hopes for the entries in this contest, the subject is just a gold mine. Can't wait to see what people come up with!)

Take a seat next to me, there's plenty of room :-)

Edit: Oh, my god. I've been writing. And writing. And I think I'm nearly almost done with my entry. What.

Edit 2: Scratch that. Maybe halfway done. I think. Still tho.

Edit 3: Just kidding. Hm. This may take longer than expected. I should really stop going with my whims.

Heh. We started a random short story this morning/last night (it was after midnight), only to see this now. Practically enough, that story fits this theme, wethinks.

Oooh, I'm excited to see what entries we get from this legendary "showdown". Shall we start placing some bets?
(also kinda inerested to see how the peculiar voting will work out)

I doubt I'll enter myselfβ€”I've been mostly sticking to reviewing RPGC to avoid burning myself out for the Laboursβ€”but I guess it could happen, if an idea strikes me in the next couple days.

Um.
@Keyblade87 from now on I'm calling you Blade or Keyblade. The Key I was originally referring to was Keyguyperson, as in, the person who won the first and third contests. XD

Care if I join? XD I haven't gotten a single popular vote for any of the stories I submitted for the RPGC's so far, but I'll just keep trying. I should be able to submit something that will at least get 1 vote in one of these contest.

It'll take a couple of days to come up with something. Lies, lies...there has to be something I can do with the theme...

Oh don't worry, while I might write long stories, they're honestly just me vomiting out all the words I can think of. There are countless contradictions and plot holes in all of my stories because I never take the time to edit them, and the only reason I appear good is because you can't hear the contradictions while I'm vomiting, and the vomit solidifies to fill the plot holes.

Sorry for that mental image, by the way.

Really sorry.

Here's a lie: my grade point average HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA

I suppose I could decide to write about my grade in Math.

Because I really shouldn't be passing that class.

(In other news, I could always write about an entirely different war and tell an entirely different heart-wrenching true story that will leave you screaming for the characters to not do what they're about to do.)

Actually, I'm just visualizing a person acting like a paper shredder. put a dictionary in one end and catch what comes out and put it in coherent order. XD

@RomanAria

That... that pretty much sums up my writing process.

Just with a bit more badly-used google translating of languages that I don't actually know the grammar of, thus making it completely unreadable if you actually speak said language.
