<Snipped quote by ClocktowerEchos>

A thing to remember about reproducing modern tech is the materials that go into it. I know people like to tote around knowing how to do something is the end-all be-all of continuing the standard of listening.

But really it's a third of the battle.

In the present situation you have factors to complicate things so you should always take those into consideration. A lot of heavy chemical production and even producing oil basically requires oil to make oil. Distilling or fracking high-grade industrial components like plastics and rubbers will require on some level the possession of plastic and rubber seals to keep the high internal environmental pressure to produce something such as rubber. Wood-based seals (cork from the cork tree) and leather are all far too porous to let you even make the best quality product if at all (on crude oil pulled from the ground the best you might be able to produce is crude kerosene and some crude low-efficiency gasoline, but no high-grade fuels or the base ingredients from rubber and plastic production).

A jump-start on this would be to obtain natural rubber but rubber trees would not grow at all in the Americas framed in the map. Natural rubber is very fickle to grow and very complicated.

And passed all that you need benzene compounds and vulcanization fluids and basically to hold that into the stills where they're heated and mixed to make synthetic rubber of the 27+ grades there are means you will still need rubber.

The other issue to keep in mind is the man-power ultimately available to us. With everything suddenly dead and about a century worth of rot we would have well lost the components needed that makes farming today so hands free as well as a lot of other jobs. We literally will be back to societies who had to devote as much manpower to farming and agriculture as we had in the 19th century. We don't got mechanical tractors even anymore. So there'll be more hands in the field, in the woods, and in the mines than we might have today, which translates directly to less in the lab, less in the art studio, or less in the military.

It's difficult to accurately access those numbers but should be kept in mind. The base I used to run off of was ten-percent in the military but that's even pulling it. Ten percent would be like what you produce in a desperate attempt to hold on without nuking your economy long-term. Even the five-percent I pull might be high, but whatever. Just keep it in mind there'll be a lot more people devoted to physical labor than not.

I also mention rubber and plastic because it's one of the most important industrial materials in the modern society. Without it we pretty much lost everything. Take a serious moment some time to look about your house at all the products that use plastic and rubber or might have bee produced with industrial rubber sometime down the line. It's pervasive as fuck. So WW2 equivalence might not even be right and we could actually be looking more at mid-19th century. Society is back to wood and iron and not aluminum and vulcanized rubber.

@Trigani Basically what he said for tech since I clearly am at a lose at it @_@

I understood it. The process of making a majority of what we use today would be too difficult to create due to the lack of certain resources.

And lack of manpower.

Over generations too the knowledge might be put on the wayside and then forgotten as people come to focus on what's relevant to their new life-style. People living in the Indian Federation out in New Mexico are more likely to pass on Native American survival techniques than computer engineering in much the same way people in the Plains States will pass up on learning modern engineering in favor of learning how to track, hunt, and probably tend to returning Buffalo herds.

I don't know if three or four is enough per-say, but there'll be a process of that happening certainly and we might be in the middle of that still. It's like how a language dies, you forget it in favor of something you will use for sure because it's relevant to your survival, your family's, and your communities. Knowing how to program a computer isn't going to help anyone when they're suffering from malnurishment.

Name: Badyoyo Tribes
Flag: Ditto
Nation Type: What are you? Kingdom, republic, tribe, etc.
Claims: The Gold area in Texas Mississipi Louisiana and Alabama.
Terrain: Swampish, humid, nasty.. With lots of bugs.

Government Type: Chief Ashwanni, and his four generals rule over the Badyoyo Tribes. Making it a council of sorts.
Capital: Baton Rouge, in Louisiana.
Head of State: Chief Ashwanni. He is a dark and dangerous man ruling the people through fear and force, with his loyal soldiers klling any who dare speak out against him or his generals. He appears as a man of African ancestry with skin the color of ebon. Scars line his face in a ritualistic manner where he cut them himself and include the cropping of his own ears into points. His teeth are yellowed with the use of nicotine and drugs that keep him in a constant state of euphoria, he has sharpened these teeth into points so that he can better tear flesh, and put fear into his enemies. He can often be seen wearing clothes made from alligator skin and scales.

He is a cruel merciless man without good intentions towards anyone besides him and his military forces. He is usually married to multiple wives at a time, all of whom are typically chained to the floor in his private quarters so that they cannot go more than 30 feet. He keeps so many wives as he likes variety, but typically grows bored with one after two years of being married, then he kills her and takes one or two more. To put the point home of obedience to him during his wedding celebration he has the former wife cooked and served as a centerpiece for the wedding dinner of the new wives. He is known to be a cannibal by just about the entire nation of his, and also known to be a heavy drug user. Though he is quite insane it only further influences his military to be similar as they rule through the powerful fear they cause to course through all of their citizens.

Other Important People:
General Beudreux: A Powerfulman with a strong support from his elite troops know as the Batons. He is known for wearing a Alligator head over his own and other animal skins draped over his otherwise nude body, which is covered in tattoos contrasting his albino skin. Pale pink eyes stare out of the darkness from his alligator head dress and he grins ferociously.
General Tyrese: Always covered in a coat of grease, smelling of diesel and gas. He is the General of the mobile forces anytime warriors are going anywhere in a vehicle he is the one calling the shots. He is noticeable by his large wrench that he converted into a large machete.
General Kazim: The general in charge of the backbone of the warriors in the Badyoyo tribes. He wears a loin cloth and alligator skins draped over his body with a crown of alligator teeth upon his head that have left hardened scarps in his scalp where they bit into his brown skin over and over again. His face has been tattooed with that of a white skull and his arms have white swirls tattooed up and down his arms. He can typically be found riding around in a huge eighteen wheeler mobile base that’s heavily armored with canons bolted down on the many platforms along the trailer.
General Mokimbo

Population: How many people do you have? Remember to keep this balanced
Attitude Towards Evols: Self explanatory. Keep in mind that other nations will be less likely to be friendly if you have too much of a friendly attitude and that most citizens will not favorable view them either.

Economic System: How is the economy run?
Resources: What kinds of stuff does your nation produce?
Currency: What do you use to barter with or do you just plain barter?
Technology: How advanced/industrialized are you. Again, keep it balanced.

Official Religion: Do you use an old world religion (ie Mormonism, Baptism, Catholicism... Scientology...) or do you follow some new gods and cults?
Religious Information: Describe your new religion or how you've changed the old ones if at all.

History: How did your nation start? Keep it simple so I'd say 3 paragraphs at max more or less. I don't care if you make it longer than that but I might just start skipping over bits and pieces

Culture: Some notable cultural traits of your people.

Military Numbers: How big is your army? Remember, keep it proportional and balanced
Military Units: What kind of units serve in your military? I personally have more of a focus on this than numbers

@ClocktowerEchos Would it be fine to have hidden prewar caches of resources and other items?

@duck55223Does anyone else happen to have a secret cache of pre-war goodies?

If yes, then go a head.

If no, then use your head.

Unless you want everyone else to also have access to one then the answer is no. I'm not about to let someone have that big of an advantage over everyone else. Remember, balance mate.

Utterly fine with others having goodie caches. The Feds had the sense to build bunkers during the Cold War so if nuclear war or a shattering of the Union were to appear likely to happen they probably do it again. It also help spice up some conflicts and give players something to fight over.

Clearly you didn't get what I meant in my last post.
I'm saying no, you are not allowed to have technology that would put you leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else for little consequence. I currently see it as something like power-playing.

Also, if everyone had a vault of prewar goodies, then the entire post-apoc vibe would be destroyed.

Not to mention they would have probably been looted clean and used up anyways in the first year.

The world ain't Fallout, I can't find anything to back up Duck's claim.

Not the interstate highway system, that was also built with it in mind as being post-nuclear-war recovery. In part.

Yo everyone, first IC post is up!
I highly advise you guys start making some ties and/or histories now or before you officially post.
Until then, see you in the Shattered Union! Founders guide you!

Thanks for the heads up.

Concerning ties, not a lot of folks are near me right now, but there may be a couple nations popping up nearby soon, aye? I'd be interested in figuring out what sort of history may be had between the League and those groups, if any. I'll wait to write a post until tomorrow so there's time to discuss that.

EDIT: If there WERE bunkers, I'd rather they not be in anyone's hands, myself. I could see one or two dotting the landscape built by some corporation with foresight... But, y'know, that's only because they'd then be something to fight over.

Even then, you'd think someone else might have already gotten to the bunkers, and that some of the bunkers wouldn't have been sufficient to survive the WMDs, etc. It'd make a fine rumor, though.

...Heh. I can imagine rumors of bunkers filled with pre-war goodies being our era's Seven Cities of Cibola.

That gives me something of an idea.
Although I will most likely fuck around with people who do try to El Dorado it and make them find a vault full of bacon fat, sex toys, little things made of straw or any combination of those because I'm a heartless mofo.
Guess that's also a heads up that if I do decide on doing something like this, it will be filled with joke loot/junk but no one iC would be able to tell. Probs just rumors of an old subway line full of gold or carrying tanks.

So, I just looked back and found the year is 2067, aye? And the bombs fell in 2017, I assume? Making sure I don't screw anything up when I post today.

Also, I only just noticed...

I would love to see train jousting tho

I once convinced a friend of mine that was GMing a Steampunk game to let me make a Polish hussar who rode a motorcycle and was armed with a pistol and a lance that was a drill. He literally drilled his lance through tanks.

The GM killed my character on purpose after that.

@ShorticusYeah, I put the start a few years ahead because fuck the police.

Also, an idea about the el dorado bunkers, I have a bit saying how the Appalachians now have massive tunnel networks underground. I'm debating if I should allow for the Rockys to get the same thing and have the lost cities actually be somewhere deep in the mountains. Just give people something to do it they wish it

Could I be a quasi-British nation based in Bermuda? On a quest to reclaim the glory of the Crown? Or maybe a Republic. Haven't decided yet.

Main aims would be to secure imports of wood and steel for ship-building - basically a merchant nation.
