Stalin, the Emperor of Man, Space Marine chapters, Sauron- it matters little.

Doomguy does not discriminate.

@Letter Bee
You'd rather live under one of the generals of pretty much literal Satan than live under a rightful and intelligent ruler who spreads prosperity throughout the entire galaxy?

I have no idea what religion you're from, but I haven't yet met one that mandates masochism.

The Emperor doesn't distinguish between this and the worst excesses of ISIS. He ran concentration camps against those who disbelieved in the 'Imperial Truth'. He exterminated the Diasporex and the Interex, as well as Armageddon's original population for fighting against Chaos, and Vulkan of the Salamanders exterminated a human population for feeling indebted to some Exodites.

No, the Imperium of Man, for all its Anti-Xenos rhetoric, is so different from us that it might as well be a Xenos Empire.

The Emperor fought against Tyrants, declared all men and women equal, and enforced a fair and just set of laws in a postapocalyptic world. He was also a highly scientific man, abolishing things like the religious bias against homosexuality.

The Imperial Truth was important, because unlike with real-life concepts, deviating from the Imperial Truth literally creates space monsters. It's partially because of the general populace's deviation from the Imperial Truth that the Chaos Gods have the power they do.

The destruction of the Diasporex and Interex was a result of the extremist views being utilized by the Primarchs who would eventually fall to the side of Chaos. The Emperor was opposed to alien life, but he wished to control it instead of annihilating it.

The Imperium of Man under the Emperor's rule was a good place, it was only after his fall that it fell into a state of zealous extremism and constant warfare.

I know that I only have Wiki knowledge of this, but Chaos drew its strength from basic human emotions, not just active worship. And while the Horus Heresy Books supposedly say that believing in Daemons may make them stronger, the relevant Tv.Tropes entry also says that it might be Tzeentechian misinformation. Even then, the Interex's 'keep people informed about Chaos, including its dangers', worked better than both the Imperial Truth and the Present-Day Imperium's 'Imperial Cult'.

Okay, granted, my knowledge does come from Tv.Tropes and 4chan for that last part.

@Letter Bee
Chaos was born from the War in Heaven. The Chaos Gods draw strength from fear, destruction, pain, suffering, and disparity. However, in addition to this, they draw immense power from Faith. It was stated that during 'modern times' the Chaos Gods were drawing power from all religions, the faith of humans allowing them to tap into all human emotions. To an extent the faith of humans formed the consciousness of the Chaos Gods, who emerged from the mere Chaos that had existed before around the Dark Ages. Even the peaceful and friendly religions were feeding their power, and the Emperor, realizing this, sought to spread atheism. But it was only after the Apocalypse that he made his presence actively known, forming the Thunder Warriors and actively guiding humanity on it's path to prosperity.

Keeping people informed about Chaos is a double-edged blade. Psykers are like a beacon to Daemon, but those unaware of the existence of Daemon are warded by their ignorance, to an extent. Psykers who are aware of Chaos gain the ability to perceive it, however, and in turn can be more easily affected by it. Furthermore, it vastly increases the risk that someone would call out to the Chaos Gods. While to an objective observer they are clearly beings of pure evil, to someone with limited knowledge they might seem close to benign, and the Chaos Gods have often granted gifts or boons to mortals in exchange for worship. Except Nurgle, because he considers diseases gifts, so nobody likes him.

Also, the Emperor wanted to leave Interex alone. It was Horus who ordered the destruction of Interex, and used this event as a tool to assist in turning Magnus towards Chaos.

As a devoted 40K fan, I trump your mere wiki knowledge with obsessive research and owning many of the books.

@thewizardguy, I hope I'm not being disrespectful, but that just means that Warhammer 40k's very metaphysics cooperates to force actions I am against, then.

I will not lie, my hatred now extends to the universe of 40k as a whole, not just the Imperium of Man and its Emperor, then.
