um

I will remind, you also specifically promised to win the Challenge Accolade for this particular Labour.

I would wish you good luck if there was such a thing, but alas. I suppose you will have to make do with merely your own skill and merit. Your confidence in this instance bodes poorly for your chances.

Told you so.

Well, I wrote something short to get me going. It's okay, I guess, but I don't think it's enough to get through the challenge. This will take writing a few concepts, viewing the labour from different perspectives and come up with a satisfying result. And if I can't, I'll just submit this first idea and have Terminal say 'I told you so'.

I got it, I friggin' got it, yes, I know exactly what I'm going to do and it's going to obliterate this challenge!!!

Two hours from now I bet I change my mind and write up a total failure.

Finally free from the shackles of education, and I have one day off before work. To quote the Wrong End of the Rainbow, time to get cracking.

Alright. I've written... most of it. Well, I've written the separate scenes in the order I've gotten the inspiration for writing them. Which, well, if we order them 1 to 5 in order they actually appear in the story, guess I've been writing 1, 5, 2, 4, 3 in that order. Not sure if that's a good idea, but real life has been going through some major things right now, so can't write unless well inspired. Now I just need to find the inspiration to write the .5s that stick them together before the deadline. Hopefully the deadline itself will serve as said inspiration. Hahaha.

Edit: No, wait, this is more 1, 5, 3, 2, 4...

Well I changed my mind after all, but only a little. I think it's coming along nicely.... sort of a weird one though. I'm trying something bold, and a large part of me knows that I'm getting really loose with the challenge parameters, but... but I just can't help myself. THIS MUST BE DONE.

I've been working on my idea, I know there are several ways to tackle this labour, but this one idea kept haunting my mind so I used it. Regardless of how difficult it is to actually make it work, it's different from my usual entries. I'm still not completely satisfied with how it fits with one of the challenge parameters, so I'm going to use the remaining time to tweak the story and hopefully produce something satisfying in the end.

Finished. Gotta do some car stuff, then come back and proofread and submit by the deadline.... I feel really good about the story as, you know, a story, but not sure if it'll clear the challenge or not. That all hinges on whether or not I've made enough of a character out of.... something...... which I'm not sure I did, but I don't feel like I can do more with what I've got.

@RomanAria Woo, entries are up! I read most of them, and enjoyed 'em. Seems I'm not the only one that thought of the idea of going meta -- you almost had to, for this one. By the way, what's this about Accolades? What are those, and how are they obtained?

@Terminal I had a blast with this. There's a few other contests I wish I'd entered -- killing off my favorite character would have been easy, as she has a miserable death in one canon already. Actually most characters in that rp died awful, useless, and unfullfilling deaths. Nuclear war will do that to you.

This one I had to think, but I'm really enjoying stretching my writing muscles. Thank you so much for running TTL!

@shylarah Accolades are awards given at the discretion of the judges to stories with impeccable grammar, flawless narrative style, and three-dimensional, fully-functional characters. Also, they're very subjective, in that both judges have to agree that they really enjoyed the story and it's theme and tone and all of that jazz. Basically, they're (thumbs up)^2.

Not sure if were doing peer reviews but here goes the first few. Interesting to see how everyone worked out the parameters of the challenge. I really struggled with it myself. I'm out of time today, but will try and get the last two up sometime soon. When reading my reviews consider I have 0 ranks in Knowledge.

Thank you both for your feedback, @mdk@Polybius

I did actually put a line break in the quoted passage (and other places), I simply didn't skip a line.
instead of
. My personal feeling is that if the exchange is still continuing, it's not appropriate to skip a line. Granted, I gained that impression from novels that also /indent/ each new line, but it's stuck with me. I can see reason to do it the way you suggest, though, for clarity purposes.

I definitely see room for telling more about myself. I don't often put actual-me into stories as more than an incidental cameo, and I forget that you all don't know me the way I do! Certainly should keep that in mind for when I am a character in the future.

As for saying more about Schrody, that's something I did consider. The end decision, however, was that I couldn't reveal more about him and maintain the premise of the story: that I knew next to nothing about him. As a note, yes, Schrody is a him. I do actually have a character base by this name, and he has served several purposes for me in the past. He was singularly stubborn about talking to me for a long time, though I knew a little more than I portrayed for the purposes of this challenge.
