Personality: Valona is the epitome of high elf demeanour despite never being around any high elves of this temperament. The most she has encountered them is within her books and those that studied at the Academy but those “High” Elves were nothing like the graceful counterparts that Valona prided herself as being descended from that she had read about. Her ego spawned within her a temper and, despite her trials to remain classy, Valona is not exactly the crispest napkin on the table at all times. Generally speaking, Valona controls her urges to be crass and attempts to keep her anger under control but due to her
unique circumstances, another side of Valona breaks out on occasion.
The second half of Valona is known as Norsa. Now Norsa is everything that Valona wishes to avoid. Norsa is disgusting, crass, quick to anger, utterly insane and would happily attempt to fight anything and anyone despite the fact that she is a 5’0” Elven mage that would snap due to a gentle breeze never mind someone’s fist hitting her. Valona likes to pretend that Norsa doesn’t exist and that anyone who mentions Norsa to her is completely and utterly off their rocker but she is all too aware of what Norsa gets up to. This is generally why Valona has such rosy cheeks, just by sheer and utter embarrassment.
Now, not only does Valona have to put up with Norsa but she also has a little voice that likes to speak to her which fuels the mischievous nature within Valona
and Norsa. Valona is always one to have a good time at another person’s expense, so long as it is harmless. Noras on the other hand, enjoys the same but doesn’t much care if it is harmless or not. Now these voices, as entertaining as they can be, actually cause the people around Valona to consider her completely and utterly insane since she (and Norsa) respond to the voices and carry a conversation with, what is seemingly, herself.
Suffice it to say, Valona is a worrisome/entertaining case for anyone that travels with her.

- Music
- Infravision: Can see heat sources even in the darkest conditions (does not work through magical darkness).
- Low-light Vision: Can see twice as far in dimmer lighting than a human can, and can still distinguish detail and colours in these lighting conditions.
- Sleep Immunity: Cannot be placed under the influences of a sleep based spell.
- Quick Footed: Elves have slightly quicker walking speeds and reaction times in comparison to humans.
- Enchantment Resilience: Has higher chances of resisting enchantment based spells cast upon herself by enemies.
- Concentration: Can hold her concentration longer throughout distractions that are around her.
- Panning: Can search in rivers, lakes, dams and other bodies of water for elements and components that can be used in potion mixing and as spell components. (By using a pan, like gold panners use.)
- Herbalism: Knows what plants are useful for using in potion making and their properties. Includes edible items.
- Alchemy: Can mix poisons and potions and can identify various components and potions/poisons that may not be commonly known.
- Cooking: Can cook decently enough, not a master cook though.
- Mental Resistance: Has a stronger mental strength than normal.
- Swimming: Can swim without her clothing and pack impeding her.
- Climb: Can climb hills, short rocky cliffs and trees.
- Listen: Ablity to pick up on sounds that might otherwise go unnoticed in less populated areas. (Valona cannot use this ability in crowded areas.)
- Weapon Proficiency (Quarterstaff): Is amazing at “showing off” with her quarterstaff, can properly use it too but she just doesn’t have the strength to do much damage with it at all. It is more for defence than anything else.
- Weapon Proficiency (Sling): Has good aim but can sometimes miss her mark. She likes to put pouches and potions in place of bullets in order to attack larger groups of enemies when she is too tired for spell casting. Those don’t need as much precision to be useful.
- Weapon Proficiency (Dagger): She can handle it enough to use it while gutting and deboning animals and not stab herself. Could probably stick the pointy end in someone else if she had to. She’s never had to yet.
- Use Rope: Can use grappling hook, climb rope, make knots, bind people. Sometimes her knots aren’t tight enough, sometimes people break free, and sometimes the grappling hook doesn’t hook right. She can climb a rope though, so that’s something.
- Foraging (Resourceful): Can make the most out of random items that other creatures may find useless or a waste of time. Can also find some random items within piles of discard or on fallen foes.
- Alertness: Keen to pick up on noises, people, scent, etc that are out of place and that are known to Valona.
- Survivalist: Valona has been living in the wild forests and plains for half a century and therefore, she has learned how to live off of the land. She may not be as adept at it as Rangers or Druids are, but she is competent enough to not die like a bitch.
- Writing: Is able to write in various handwritings; primarily broken, short hand and cursive.
- Fast Reading: Can read text at twice the rate of a non-reader.
- Languages: As a Mage, Valona can speak, read and write many languages. The following list is the languages that Valona knows.
- Common
- Elven
- Dwarf
- Halfling
- Gnome
- Orc
- Giant
- Goblin
- Gnoll
- Draconic (Taught to her by her Ha’des.)
- Ancient

- Arcana
- Architecture
- Dungeoneering
- Geography
- History
- Nature
- Nobility
- Common/Local Cultures
- Wild Magic Surge: These surges happen randomly and occur about 5% of the time when Valona casts magic from her person. When Norsa is in full flow and casts magic from her person, there is a 10% chance of a surge happening. Her emotional state also affects the frequency of her surges. The more uncontrollable her emotions, the higher the chance of surges.
These surges can change, affect or interrupt the outcome of the spell that Valona/Norsa is trying to cast. Example; Valona wishes to cast a Darkness spell but a surge occurs. The darkness will possibly still occur but pebbles will start to rain from the sky above her. Or perhaps the darkness does not work and she instead finds streamers spouting from her fingertips and her feet within a puddle of water. She could even cast the spell but instead a fireball could erupt from her hands.
The surges can also affect the strength of the spell being cast. If this is the case, it will only make this affect and will not include a secondary affect to the spell. Example; Valona casts fireball at a group of three enemies but a surge occurs. The fireball is now the size of a pea and only hits one enemy as if it were a peashooter on fire. Adversely, the fireball could possibly double in size and hit more than 3 enemies at a time.
(The surges are randomly decided by a dice roll and a table found in The Tome of Magic from AD&D. I will not use the surges that are perhaps completely insane and will check with the GM first before making any surge posts.)
Components: She must cast a spell from her person, this does not affect spells cast by wand/staff/scroll.
Drawbacks: I think these are pretty clear hopefully. - Fireball: A Fireball is an explosive burst of flame, which detonates with a low roar, and delivers damage proportionate to the distance from the target in which it explodes. It can also throw enemies off balance due to the concussive force in which the fireball explodes.
The further out from the sphere you are, the less likely you are to be knocked back. If you are within the sphere, but not in the centre, you will risk losing balance and being knocked off your feet or backwards. Besides causing damage to creatures, the Fireball ignites all combustible materials within its burst radius, and the heat of the Fireball will melt soft metals such as gold, copper, silver, etc.
Range: 75’
Casting Time: 3 seconds
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: 15’ radius sphere
Components: Pellet of sulphur
Drawbacks: Can harm allies as well as enemies. - Spider’s Web: A Web spell creates a many-layered mass of strong, sticky strands similar to spider webs, but far larger and tougher. These masses must be anchored to two or more points - floor and ceiling, opposite walls, etc. The surfaces must be opposite facing in some manner and cannot be on the same surface as itself. The webs must be at least 5’ thick. Example; this means Valona could cast it and it will be roughly 10’ high, 5’ wide and 2.5’ deep.
Creatures caught within webs, or simply touching them, become stuck amongst the gluey fibres. Creatures with less than 13 strength must remain fast until freed by another or until the spell wears off. It is important to note that the strands of a Web spell are flammable. A magic flaming sword will slash them away as easily as a hand brushes away cobwebs. Any fire - torch, flaming oil, flaming sword, etc. - will set them alight and burn them away in a single round. All creatures within the webs will take some points of damage from the flames, but those freed of the strands will not be harmed.
Range: 10’
Casting Time: 2 seconds
Duration: 10 minutes
Area of Effect: 125 cubic feet
Components: Small piece of spider web.
Drawbacks: Valona and her allies can also be caught in the web. - Polymorph Self: When this spell is cast, the magic-user is able to assume the form of any creature - from as small as a wren to as large as a hippopotamus - and its form of locomotion as well. The spell does not give the other abilities (attack, magic. etc.), nor does it run the risk of changing personality and mentality.
Thus, a magic-user changed to an owl could fly, but his or her vision would be of their own race; a change to a black pudding would enable movement under doors or along halls and ceilings but not the pudding's offensive or defensive capabilities. Naturally, the strength of the new form must be sufficient to allow normal movement. The spell caster can change his or her form as often as desired.
Range: Self
Casting Time: 3 seconds
Duration: 10 minutes or until Valona chooses to leave it
Area of Effect: Self
Components: Valona has to have seen the creature or monster that he is wishing to impersonate. Seeing these creatures or monsters in books does not count.
Drawbacks: Valona becomes more mentally unstable when using this repeatedly or constantly in a single day. This therefore increases her risk of wild surges by 10% on top of Valona/Norsa’s usual 5/10% - Continual Darkness: When this spell is cast, a globe of impenetrable darkness is created. This spell causes total, impenetrable darkness in the area of its effect. Infravision or ultravision are useless. Neither normal nor magical light will work unless a Light or Continual Light spell is used. In the former event, the darkness spell is negated by the Light spell and vice versa.
Range: 30’
Casting Time: 3 seconds
Duration: Permanent (Until dispelled)
Area of Effect: 15’ diameter globe
Components: Crushed/powdered coal
Drawbacks: None known.

Childhood: Father was not around, her mother abandoned her at a tavern in a town called Redfort. She was brought up in an orphanage and began to show signs of magic ability. A senior professor called Roland at The Academy discovered her abilities and took her under his wing, enrolling her into The Academy and waiving the usual fees for her.
Adulthood:- Graduated the Academy at 21
- Travelled around, helping small villages where she could for ten years.
- Met Greedo.
- Greedo and Valona travelled together for five years.
- They discovered a cavern within a wide mountain range called Fingtook. Inside this cavern there was a strange magical energy. They investigated more and Greedo and Valona were blasted into the walls of the cavern, being knocked unconscious.
- On awakening, Valona was on her own and Greedo was nowhere to be found.
- Valona began to hear voices, her mind slowly began to crack. She struck out inside the Academy when she returned to visit Roland, hurting him accidentally.
- Valona was tested and discovered to have Wild Magic surging through her. She was requested to set out for the Magnus Cove in Hinter to learn how to control her surges.
- Valona never made it to Hinter due to an unexpected run in with Greedo. His power had increased tenfold, his control much greater than it had been when she had last seen him in the cavern. Greedo had gained all of Valona’s control, he had known about the cavern and had lured Valona there under the pretence of finding great secrets and power together but instead stole her pure magical ability and gave her his own corrupted wild magic instead.
- Valona attempted to fight Greedo and cart him as her prisoner to Hinter but as she attempted to cast a spell, a surge went off and caused Greedo to be short range teleported. It was enough that she couldn’t find or follow him and he escaped.
- Valona has slowly and surely slipped into mental instability at the constant inability to control her powers. She feared hurting others originally and kept herself isolated from civilisation.
- She happened upon a scroll of Find Familiar, sick of being alone at this point, Valona cast it and met Ha’des. Ha’des had apparently been some of the voices that she had been hearing for so many years. She tried to stab him and eat him, it didn’t end well for her. Ha’des used his telekinesis to keep her unable to harm him.
- She and Ha’des began spending time together playing pranks on unsuspecting travellers and made it their mission to have as much fun as possible until Valona found Greedo.
- After being alone with only Ha’des as company, Valona began to slip ever more into insanity and Norsa began to appear.
- Ha’des took it upon himself to encourage Norsa as much as he had Valona to commit pranks.
- After some time wandering aimlessly, feeling completely defeated at the fact that she could not find Greedo, Valona wanders far and wide, travelling and learning as much as she can whilst doing as little magic as she possibly can handle.
Special Moments: - Meeting Roland.
- Being brought into The Academy by Roland.
- Meeting Ha’des.
Current Events: Valona is sick of being unable to use the magic she has been learning about and has been hunting for Greedo to force him into fixing what he has done to her.
