So, how will you determine which abilities are deemed useless? Both my chosen Pokemon have Abilities with questionable usefulness, or at least they seem to be outside of the Meta Game anyway, though Eevee's is more so since it's stuck with Run Away.

I'm not sure how they're with "questionable usefulness". Eevee can get Run Away and Adaptability. The former would help you out when you're faced with wild pokemon too strong for you to take on and Adaptability would give you a certain advantage in fights. As for Budew, it has Poison Point and Natural Cure. Both still serve their purposes; its just unfortunate that their applications are more related to battle than anything else.

Also, as stated in the Pokedex in the first post, Baby Pokemon only know their moves up until Level 15. Anything else would have to be thought or learned. So for your Budew, it would know Absorb, Growth, Water Sport, Stun Spore, and Mega Drain.

EDIT: My mistake, I forgot about that part. Okay, it has Energy Ball.

Well, I was moreso questioning their RP application, Budew's in particular are fairly meta-gamey and would be difficult to explain in "realistic" terms how something could, say, have poison point when it has no points on it anywhere, or it can just randomly heal status just by being switched out thanks to natural cure. With Eevee, yeah those Abilities are pretty straight forward but when the OOC mentioned "usefulness" I wasn't quite sure what it meant by that, so I'll retract the question regarding Eevee.

As for the Budew's moves thing, doesn't the OOC say this?:

Choose 2 Pokemon at their basic form and no dream abilities; the exception to this is when their abilities are deemed not that useful within the role play. One of the pokemon must be part of a three stage evolutionary line (e.g. Charmander -> Charmeleon -> Charizard) and will be allowed one move that can be learned through breeding/move tutor/TM at the start.

I assumed that, since Budew is my token 3-stage Pokemon he could be allowed to start with a TM/Egg/Tutor move such as Energy Ball, or Sludge Bomb since I was planning to switch it to that.

@Double Usefulness would pertain in and out of combat since there are certain moves that are rendered pseudo-obsolete given the nature of the RP. Examples would be Anticipation, Mummy, Magician, and Healer to name a few.

You're taking the name too literally for Poison Point. The ability may cause poisoning on physical contact, that's it. If you believe that it doesn't make sense, then pick Natural Cure instead. If you're questioning Natural Cure's mechanics on how it actually works, Leaf Guard is no better. Although we're trying to be realistic here, Pokemon is still a world that bends common sense. Budew is 8 inches tall; how would we explain it creating enough poison for sludge bomb? When I say realistic, think of how it is in the show. I'm not saying were going to copy it exactly, but that would give you an idea on what I mean.

If you're worried about its effects in terms of meta-battling, just remember that every action will have repercussions; some heavier than others. If abuse is done, rectification will definitely follow.

Regarding Energy Ball, I kinda corrected myself in my previous post.

@Muffinator To be fair, the anime showed small Pokemon like Pumpkaboo managing to fire off a Shadow Ball despite it's size... not to mention the countless number of times Pikachu's Thunderbolt did way more damage than it likely should have done, so I can see your point. Suspension of disbelief will just have to do. 8D

One more question? Do I get to choose Eevee's evolution or will it depend on IC circumstances? In other words is it my choice if it evolves into, say, Espeon or Umbreon or Sylveon since all three of those evolutions revolve around happiness/affection? I'd like Sylveon if it's my choice.

@Double Exactly my points. I'm not saying Budew can't. What I'm saying is that we don't have to nitpick on the mechanics of how the moves work. Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with Natural Cure and Poison Point.

If you want a Sylveon, no problem. Just try and achieve the requirements for its evolution. So you have to try and teach Eevee a Fairy-type move (Think Ash teaching Pikachu Iron Tail and Treeko Bullet Seed) along with maintaining a tight-knit bond between your character and his pokemon.

EDIT: Looking at the moves available to it, you don't really have that many options. You just have Baby-Doll Eyes and Charm.

@MuffinatorBaby-Doll Eyes is a low-level move (level 9 I think?), so chances are it probably either started out with it already or learned it pretty soon after their journey started.

Added a very basic background. It's not finished by any means, as I'm probably gonna turn in for the night pretty soon and will write a background with some more detail tomorrow. But the basic gist is that Shane comes from Dewey City, had an older cousin (Janet) who herself was an accomplished Eevee trainer. When her Leafeon and Glaceon produced an Egg she decided to give it to Shane as a birthday present right around the time he was getting ready to receive his Trainer license.

@Double I won't be stingy with evolution and if the dice roll in your favor, then you might just get your evolution sooner rather than later. No problem with the background. Take your time; I'm just glad I got my first character sheet.

Also, just rolled for your Pokemon. Eevee is normal but you apparently have a Giant Budew. You got a 3 on the RNG; lucky you.

@MuffinatorI'm not entirely sure what being Giant does for Budew.

@Double Well, it can be 1.5-2 times its normal size throughtout its evolutionary line. Budew would be 1'04" instead; that's practically the size of a Pikachu or Meowth. Certain moves would be affected such as the amount of water released via Water Sport and pollen with Stun Spore. The same would apply when it evolves and learn new moves. A Roserade is 2'11" but as a giant, it reach heights of 5'10" You don't need to make it a giant if you don't want to though. Its just an option.

@Muffinator5' 10''? Wow that's pretty much human-sized. Hmm, maybe I'll just sleep on it and decide tomorrow. Speaking of which, gonna go ahead and turn in for the night now.

Name: Nikolaus "Niko" Lai
Age: 17
Theme: youtube.com/watch?v=-1ODf6IbAKw
I.D. Picture:

Background: Raised in a family of coordinators, Niko grew up knowing that the bond between a pokemon and their trainor was sacred and never to be wasted. With this belief it was only natural for him to nearly breakdown and convince his parents to let him take in an abandoned Mienfoo whom had been abused by her previous trainer. Since taking Ranmao into his care, Niko discovered that he wanted to learn how different pokemon behave and how a person's bond with them can affect that behavior.

Hometown: Dewey City
Current Location: Arune Forest

Bag:
10x Poke Ball
10x Luxary Ball
5x Max Potion
5x Full Heal
3x Full Restore

Pokemon:
Species: Mienfoo (♀)
Nickname: Ranmao
Personality: Ranmao is exceedingly shy around new people, choosing to hide behind Niko more often than not. When comfortable, she is rather cuddly and affectionate.
Ability: Regenerator
Extra: Tends to act like a mother hen when it comes to Niko's eating habits.

Species: Pidove (♂)
Nickname: Starkk
Personality: Starkk is a very proud Pidove, all but refusing to be around anyone but Niko. However, he is endearing and helpful to females but abraisive towards most males.
Ability: Super Luck
Extra: Knows the move Taunt. Has a bad habit of taking shiny things.

Trainer Perks:
Depending on the decisions you make during the RP you may be granted special perks that can aid you on your pokemon adventure. These perks can range from having all your pokemon stronger in battle to having a better chance of finding rarer pokemon to being able to breed more pokemon at once.

@Feral Vi Character sheet is good, but what extra move did you teach Pidove? Also, rolled for your Pokemon; both are normal.

@MuffinatorUpdated my CS. All I'm missing is the pic and theme song, and I'm admittedly kind of stuck there. Also, went ahead and distinguished Eevee as a Female and Budew as a Male, hope that's okay. Even gave them personalities of their own. Also decided to stick with a normal size Budew since I kind of gave it a personality that stems from being bullied in the past.

EDIT: Changed my current location from Forte Village to Arune Forest. Didn't realize the location had to be adjacent to the home town, plus that means he can start in a position to interact with Niko.
