The Inner Workings of a Killer Part 1: Darkness

“There is an idea of me. A tangible feeling that one feels when I’m around. People trust in their instinct that I exist. I do not. Instinct is a lie. Feeling is a lie. I can tell you unequivocally that although you can see me, feel me, I am simply not there.

My time here began five years ago. I accepted a contract for what I thought would be a simple job. Kill a girl. Allison McKenna…she wanted to be a nurse, not that it mattered. Her father was the Mayor of this wretched city and also its biggest detriment; a career criminal in the guise of a politician…I mean most are like that anyway, am I right? I didn’t care who her father was…I was here on a job and that was it. So there I found myself, staring down the scope of my rifle and firing one bullet straight through her innocent heart. Her death led to more, they called it the Gang War of the Century. Bodies falling everywhere from every faction, criminal, cop, civilian. No one was safe. There was a type of satisfaction knowing that my bullet created history.

This town appealed to me so I stayed and well, let’s save those stories for later shall we?

What is it? This darkness that befalls this city? This intangible something that turns good men cruel and good women poisonous? Children leave their homes in the morning, not to go to school nor to go play with their friends but to learn to survive. Their young hearts are corrupted by avarice and jealousy, by lust and by pride. We release our children into this world like we send people to war, their futures hidden in fog, their safety uncertain. Is it something beneath the ground? Something that lies beneath the very crust of the world, like roots from an ancient tree, always there, always growing. Is it in the water? The crushing black from the bottom of the Earth bubbling to the surface and bringing all of our deepest fears and desires with it? What is it? Is it chaos? Is it clarity? Is it stealing into our lives like a thief in the night or are we letting it in? Embracing it like an old friend?

What is this darkness?

Is it Justice?”

he stared long and hard up above him, towards the first floor and what lay beyond that. The stairs were pretty much a no go zone and he didnt want to risk trying to climb what appeared to be a long endless track of obstacles he was sure he would fall victim to. Like the smart man he was convinced he was, he back off and took a deep sigh. Why couldn't he help? because he wasn't fast enough or perhaps because he wasn't strong enough, not like the rest of the guy who had somehow found their ways to the roof in no time flat it appeared. It appeared he was being left behind during all this commotion, even the press hadn't really got a hold of him, since he was dawdling around the ground floor, with nothing better to do at the moment.

This murder, it did strike deep within him. It reminded him that what happened to Peyton, was definetly not some coincedence, it was planned, it was no accident. Sure the official records said, suicide, but something just didn't feel right, and already something didn't feel right about this Dani figure. His interactions with her were non-existent, but from what he had seen and heard, she wasn't one to do what had suddenly went down during this grand celebration of life and coming together. Of course, if he had figured this out, someone else would and the police would be alerted. Another little frisking by the police wouldn' do him any harm...but he worried about his certain possessions in his apartment. Unlike Lana he didn't have everything under lock and key, so a few things with certain alarming details may be found.

He exitted the ground floor of the building and walked back out, sighing and running a hand through his hair. Lana was gone, great, she was probably freaking out about anything but the murder that had just happened before their eyes. Well, above to be precise. He took a glance at the corpse, his eyes scanning it from afar. It didn't scare him, it didn't bother him. He felt sorry for the girl with the new gun shot wound but besides that, just disgust at the shooter. He made his way to a quiet place before spotting JD and Lana. He looked a bit shaken and offered them up an eyebrow rise, too scared to cause a commotion if he approached them

Riley groaned slightly, though she was used to the paparazzi now at this point and even embraced it she truly wasn't in the mood for it, her head was pounding slightly from the hit on the head but she wasn't going to go to the hospital unless it got worse some aspirin and rest would be better. Riley looked towards the crowd once more as she spotted a familiar face approaching her and it was Lorna and asked if she was alright. "Yeah just a little cut on my arm and head from the table breaking but i'll be fine." Riley said softly wincing slightly when the EMT cleaned the wounds some more to prevent infection.

Then Riley saw some flashing and looked towards a guy with a camera taking shots at her and grumbled to herself, she couldn't help but smirk when Lorna approached the man with the camera and tried to block his shots of her. Then things started to get physical with Lorna shoving the camera into the man's face and then yanking it watching the camera break once it hit the ground. Then she manhandled him towards the barricade further away from her, Riley was grateful for that it would most likely be posted online in the next few hours with the confrontation and some other media and celeb gossip sites.

"Thanks DJ and Lorna.." Riley said while the EMT continued to do his work on cleaning up the wounds and bandaging them. Once he had finished Riley smiled at the man and shook his hand she was thankful, her attention went back towards DJ once more offering to escorting her back towards her apartment after witnessing what happened and the constant cameras in her face she wouldn't mind the help.

"If you wouldn't mind escorting this princess to her castle then I wouldn't mind that at all." Riley said with a slight smile as she stood up watching the EMT who was treating her running off towards the barricade to help out whoever else that needed it. Riley stood close to DJ as she started to make her way back towards the barricade and looked at some of the cameras still on her trying to get some shots at her and sighed. "I should hire you to be my bodyguard or something." Riley said as she walked past the neighbors staying far away from the scene of Danica's body as the coroner started to move the body.

Riley saw Cecily and then looked towards DJ and smiled. "Thanks, I think I can make it back to my place for now and feel free to swing by my room if you want to hangout sometime." Riley said and quickly approached Cecily. "Hey, how are you doing?" Riley asked rubbing the back of her neck slightly. "And sorry for disappearing on you, I was getting myself patched up."

The media was finally backing off. If not fully backing off, then at least keeping a respectful distance away from the scene, thanks to the tactics and raw intimidation factor of the trio from Machete Security Solutions. All the same, this place reeked of decay. Not the sure and obvious urban decay, brought about by structurally neglected neighborhoods, nor even the more obvious smell of the dead; this was a pervasive feeling of moral decay, a type of hedonism that afflicts the lower classes and habitually unfulfilled. This place was permeated with it.

The overly dramatic public displays of the locals, if left by itself, could be overlooked. This was California, after all. The Great Cereal Bowl of North America - If you weren't a fruit or a nut, you were probably a flake. There was a certain amount of false front and transparent ulterior motivation to be expected. Crime? That happened everywhere. If people were completely safe all the time, his company wouldn't make any money at all. No, the potential for aggressive activity wasn't the issue. It was the horrifying Talk Show mentality with which casual passersby treated the scene of someone's death. The heartless arrogant entitlement of the media. The blazé behavior of local law enforcement, perhaps. Or maybe that the two or three decent people he'd noticed were trampled over by the sea of mediocrity that washed over this place, leaving a film of fetid disappointment and unneeded histrionics. The fact that the public merely accepted this sickened Caesar.

This crowded stretch of asphalt and structures had all of the earmarks of urban jungle. A place where predators stalked among the unwary. He didn't like it. But it was where he was, he and what remained of his family. Whatever this was, Caesar was a part of it now. So was Lorna, and so was his baby girl, Alicia. May as well do something about it.

Caesar's phone had taken many images of the scene, weapon, body. Things that could be reviewed later. The forensic tech had her own observations. Perhaps in lieu of more practical payment, he could have his people read in to the investigation. Hell, he was a cop, once upon a time. Federal Judicial Police, though his area of expertise in that time lay in Narcotics, Organized Crime, and Small Unit Tactics. These were all interesting introspective observations and bonafide certifiable maybes, but they did little to address his initial concern. His people were here, and it was a questionable setting. The old man would feel a little more confident if he had another body he could trust looking after the Familia Gonzalez. Someone that would allow them to work in pairs. Someone capable of defending himself and whomever he was with. Someone who could perform the heavy lifting and scare the bejeezus out of just about anyone if he weren't around. A person far removed from the scene, with nothing personal at stake and zero friends to coddle.

He knew of such a person. But it was a gamble summoning him.

Caesar, still recording, punched up the contact information to his company's central office, back in Chattanooga. The other end picked up after hardly a single ring. Without waiting for salutation, he began. "Gonzalez, Senior. Get me the Director of the London Office."

A few scant rings later, a professional but fatigued voice answered, "Sir?"

"Special Project - Justice, California. Grey op, investigation and bodyguard duties. Send me the big guy. I want The Stone. Tomorrow if possible. Tell him to pack light, we're not going to war yet. Just need someone for my girls."

This might not have been the best idea he'd ever acted on. But it would certainly make things interesting. Game on, Justice. Game on.

Alicia slowly lowered her gun as Lorna took control of Amy and just smirked a bit as she watched the events unfold. Turning she saw that the coroner now was getting the corpse placed in a body bag and that the team on the main street was starting to wrap things up. This was good, the sooner things were cleared out and they got the body moved off the scene the better in her mind. At least then some of the reporters would hurry off to the country morgue to see if they could get anyone down there to tell them anything. Slipping her pistol into her waist bad she kept ushering people off the street and behind the barricade; give what police officers who were actually working, most of them rookies being yelled at by older members of the police force, be able to tape off the area.

What a mess, stepping over to a cooler she looked down and spotted her papi's ice cream concoction melting and groaned a bit. Reaching over she picked up a taquito and shoved it in her mouth. No reason not to eat, the body didn't bother her. Granted she wanted to grab another drink but she was still technically on the job it was better if that part waited until at least the main crowd had cleared away and she was back in her apartment and flopped on what better be her newly steam cleaned couch. Picking up a few more taquito's she headed over to Lorna as she dispatched a few more unrulies and smirked as she handed over a couple of the Mexican finger foods.

"Well this sure has been a blast," she chuckled a bit before placing another in her mouth and grabbing a cameraman trying to get over the barrier and chucking him right back to the other side. Dusting her hands off on one another before biting and properly chewing the food. Swallowing she looked back over towards Lorna and rose a brow. "Damn parasites," she grumbled under her breath. Perking a brow she saw her father on the phone and elbowed Lorna a bit in the side. "Who the hell do you think he is talking to?"

Detective Roy Gregory

Location: Roof Of Abandoned Building

Roy looked over towards Jeremy and nodded a bit. "Travel writer for the local paper, can't imagine she would be that stressed writing about places to go relax," he said as he rubbed his chin a bit. Turning he grabbed one of the techs by the shoulder and pulled him over. "I want castings of the prints, I want the blood work done, and I want it on my desk by morning. Got it?" he said, the young man nodding nervously before he was shoved away.

"Alright, well thanks for the help. You can take the ladder down, might be safer than the way we got up here in the first place," he said before stepping away and walking to the front of the building. Resting his gloved hands on the edge he looked down as they rolled a stretcher with a body bag on it into the back of the coroners van, finally getting Danica's now cold body off the street itself. What had caused all this? He had to wonder but thoughts could really get a person into trouble, speaking them even more so. Though something was not sitting right in his stomach. Maybe it was the vodka, he had drank without eating. Maybe he could still grab something before all the food was tossed out, would be a waste.

Reaching into his pocket as his phone rang, he pulled it out and answered it. "Gregory," he said and then listened as he turned around, not looking all that happy. "You're shitting me? No, not this time." Growling as his eyes narrowed a bit he paced a bit. "Fine, no, no I get it. I get it." Wishing he had an old phone he could actually slam the receiver down on he tapped the screen on his phone and nearly chucked the thing before letting out a huff and dropping it back into his pocket. "Asshole."

Shaking his head he stepped up onto the ledge and swung over onto the fire ladder that was raised up to the roof and started to step down quickly. It was obvious he was a bit hotter under the collar than he already had been, mouthing to himself a slew of curses that would have made a sailor blush as he moved further and further down the ladder until he was able to hop off the thing and onto the roof of the fire truck. "Fucking Succubus," he grumbled as he turned to get down onto the street itself. "Get the hell out of my way," he said all but shoving a fire fighter aside that was having an apparently all too funny conversation in the middle of a crime scene "Do something useful, like rescue a cat out of tree or something."

Risa smiled coyly as Lucas came in and handed her over the glass of wine, taking it in her bubble covered fingers she rested back in the bathtub with a humorous grin playing on her lips as she took a sip and relaxed a bit. Placing a foot on the edge of the bath and then crossing her ankle over it she looked over to him and shrugged. "And only you would be more interested in a corpse on the concrete than a warm body in the bath," she taunted him playfully before rolling her eyes and taking another sip. Placing the glass on the edge of the tub she let her head fall back and enjoyed the warm rose scented water wash over her body.

"Because you like touching my knickers," she said without batting an eye lash as she lay there with her eyes closed, her hands moving under the water to make it splash over her skin some. Letting out a satisfied sigh she peeked a glance over to him and giggled. Sitting up she pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs. Tilting her head to the side she took a long breath.

"You and your curiosity, it is going to get the better of you one day. Remember the Duke of Wellington? That nearly came to blow because you wouldn't keep your distance," she reminded him and then laughed. "Then again, the look on his face was priceless when you lifted up the tail of his coat and played it off as if you were checking out his rump." Looking up at him she sighed happily and reached out, taking his hand in her and pulling him down a bit, stealing a quick kiss. "What am I going to do with you?"

Cecily Ashworth

Location: The Block Party
Interacting With: DJ Lawson @Lady Amalthea , Riley Ridgeway @Nallore

"Hey, how are you doing? And sorry for disappearing on you, I was getting myself patched up." Riley said, hurrying over towards her.

Cecily smiled weakly, waving at Lawson to show her thanks. She ought to have gone and seen to Riley but... Well, instincts kick in. She had spent her entire career rushing towards crime scenes--it was a bit hard to go against all of that muscle memory. Glancing Riley over, she was relieved to see that none of the injuries looked too serious. The EMT must have patched her up.

"Oh, I'm fine," Cecily lied, smiling at Riley. To be truthful, she was frustrated beyond belief. She never liked coroners before--and now, Wallace had left a foul taste in her mouth. And eventually, he would leave a nice dent in her bank account, as she was going to pay the security team herself. Wallace was a git; that didn't mean she had to be one as well.

"What about you, are you okay?" Cecily asked quickly. "Here, let me help you get up to the apartment...You look like you've been through hell."

Throwing a glance behind her, Cecily saw as they bagged the body, removing it from the scene. All of the breaches of protocol made her nostrils flare. If Wallace was going to blatantly remove everything from the scene before a sketch artist could get in there, take measurements, and draw the sketch, so be it. It wasn't her problem--it shouldn't have mattered to her.

But it did. She could see the headlines when the case went to trial-- Murderer Walks Free From Forensics Mess Up! And of course, Wallace himself wouldn't be blamed. They would blame one of the forensic techs, fire them, and make amends to the public. That was how it would always go.

Cecily couldn't help but wish that the security team was taking note of the crime scene and the evidence being mishandled--maybe the terrifying Mexican would be able to solve it instead. At least, then, someone would know the truth!

Once the worst of the press had more or less cleared the crime scene, Mali felt she had gotten more than involved enough for her own liking and faded from the scene as best as she could. She stood in front of the Rose building, leaning back onto the plaster that comprised the building and contented herself to merely watching people, taking the scene in as it went on around her.

There were phone calls to (hopefully) people of importance, idle conversation in the middle of a crime investigation, glory hog so-called law enforcers eating up their chance to chat it up with the journalistic carrion birds, people with fake smiles and real grimaces plastered on their faces, and the rare few guys who actually did their job of contributing to the completion of a homicide investigation. All in all these people were a bunch that seemed discontent, if not with their station in life, then with the situation and circumstance of the city they found themselves in. Mali couldn't blame them, Justice was kind of a shit hole. A potentially lucrative shit hole to live in, but a hole full of shit all the same.

Mali covered her mouth to stifle a big, ugly yawn as she rolled her shoulders back. Tonight ended up simultaneously being more interesting and more boring than she thought it would be. Hell, it almost felt like it was a huge waste to even get dressed up and come down here in the first place. If she had just stayed in her apartment, she figured that she would have been able to unpack at least 1 of the larger piles of boxes lying around in her apartment. Well, if any good could be considered to have come out of this whole incident in the first place is that the entire block's hearing loss would at least be delayed. She'd give it another half hour to an hour before giving up the idea of being questioned by the police tonight and heading back to her apartment room.

Dj Lawson

Location: Next to the ambulance outside of the barricade --> By The Smoker

Lawson stood there, keeping the majority of the press at bay and away from Riley as the paramedic checked her out. Glad to hear it wasn't anything major in the end. As Lorna came over he gave her a cheesy wide toothed grin and a half a nod. "Naw, she be fine. No worries there. Talk to ya in a bit once you are done kicking ass and taking names," he said with a wink before grabbing another photographer by the collar and tossing him into the crowd without flinching.

"More than happy too ma'am," he said as he wrapped an arm under hers and helped her back over the barricade and into the clear; away from the mob. "Well let me know if ya do, be a lot more fun to keep ya safe than my current work," he laughed a bit and made sure she was okay before turning around and actually taking a look around at what was going on.

The body was in the ambulance now and driving off, the forensics team was packing up; as well as the teams on the roofs. More and more people were getting ushered away and the place was getting taped off to outline the crime scene as it were. He doubted that tape would keep people away from the scene over night. He hoped they got everything they needed during that time because he doubted anything would be left come morning. Rubbing his face he looked around again. Several cops were finally starting to question people in the streets. A cop heading over towards the pair of women talking, JD and Lana was it? Another talking to the woman who had more muscle mass than he did, he hadn't met her yet. Another heading here, another heading there. It seemed the cops were finally doing their jobs - Questioning EVERYONE that was on the street. That included him and he gave a quick run down of what he had seen and who he remembered being there. He was quick, to the point and didn't add any flare to the line of questions he received.

Once the cop was done with him he was given a business card and shoved it in his back pocket before rubbing his face once again and heading back over towards the smoker and starting to wrap things up over there. Giving a bit of a nod to Lyndsay as he saw her packing up as a cop came over to question her. Hopefully it wouldn't take too long, he wanted to ask how Cam was since he hadn't come back down yet. With everything that had gone down and knowing Cam was a former Marine, he worried a bit. It was natural, Lawson knew the hell he went through personally, so he could only assume that perhaps Cam had been through similar, so many Marines had and some did not respond well to stuff like this. PTSD was a plague that took far more lives than any bullets ever had these days.

Riley Ridgeway

Location: The Block Party, then Classic Building 3-C

"I'll be sure to let you know DJ, and if you ever want to go to a bar sometime rounds are on me." Riley said with a soft smile as she watched him walking over towards his smoker. She glanced towards the paramedics as they moved Danica's body once more and watched the ambulance drive off her attention back towards her roommate she understood that Cecily quickly went to work mode after that. She smiled when Cecily asked if she was alright Riley nodded to Cecily. "Aside from being harassed by paparazzi and my pride slightly taking a hit i'm fine." Riley answered. She knew that she would most likely be on every news site and local news of her getting hurt at the block party. Riley then grabbed her keys to their apartment just as one of the cops approached her to get her statement which caused her to groan slightly.

Riley answered all of their questions truthfully and as best as she could, she didn't know Danica all that well or why it had actually happened she did feel bad for the girl. Once they had finished Riley looked towards Cecily and smiled wrapping an arm over her friend's shoulder and started to head back towards The Classic Building. "So i'm guessing that you are going to have to head into work again or something?" Riley asked as she unlocked the door to their apartment and headed inside.

Once she was inside Riley tossed her keys onto the counter in the kitchen and made her way towards the fridge grabbing herself a bottle of beer, she then used the edge of the counter and pried off the bottle cap taking a sip from the beer. "Do you want one?" Riley asked looking at Cecily.

Jeremy Bennet

Location: Roof of the renovated building

Giving the detective a nod, he watched as Roy moved off, Jeremy knew he couldn't contribute any more to the investigation, and honestly he didn't really want to. Jeremy didn't make any effort to climb down off the roof yet. Looking down, he watched as Danica's body was scraped off the pavement by the coroner's people and carried off, in the back of his mind he swore he heard 'Ave Maria' playing, it seemed like the right sort of moment. Letting out a sigh, he looked up and out over the city, over Justice. The irony was not lost on him, he knew deep down that there would be no justice for Danica, no justice for Peyton, and perhaps no justice for professor Gerard if things were left as they were.

Jeremy got the strange feeling that he hated getting, the feeling that he was stepping into something far bigger than himself, and something he would've been better off avoiding. He didn't exactly have proof, but he knew it deep down that both Peyton and Danica were involved with Gerard to a degree, or rather, at least involved with what he was getting himself into, and now they were dead. It was entirely possible that in the next few months, the next few weeks or even just the next few days that it could have been his own body being scraped off the sidewalk because he'd had the marvelous idea of getting in way over his head. He heard himself ask if it was worth it, if he shouldn't just go on some pleasure trip to go climb Everest or something.

Then he heard himself answer. He couldn't give up, he couldn't have just turned around, left town and forgotten about the whole thing before he got a 9mm embedded in his skull. He couldn't stop himself from getting involved, from sticking his nose into things, from painting a giant target on his back along with a big neon sign that said 'insert knife here' - no, and there were two reasons why. First, he owed it to Gerard, he would never have forgiven himself if he let down the man, if he gave up on searching for him when he could have gotten himself into deep, deep water. And second, and more importantly...

He fucking loved the idea of all of it.

He moved to the ladder then, and began to climb down, it was going to be a busy day tomorrow, it was time to head home.

Lucas Walsh

Location: Apartment 1B

Looking down at Risa, Lucas tried to summon the most unamused look he could, it didn't work. He smirked, gave a little chuckle and moved to sit by the tub as he rolled up his sleeves. "I'm not going to deny anything you just said, because you and I both know it's true." He chuckled again, resting an elbow on his knee as he sat there, suddenly bored stiff at the notion of returning to his work as he settled where he was, comfortable on the tiled floor of the bathroom.

Grinning as she spoke up again, he shook his head. "So apparently a Duke doesn't like it if you remind him the House of Lords is filled with fucking morons, how was I supposed to know? Besides, I only wanted to get his advice on wedding planning." The last part was, of course, a dig, as it usually was clear from the smug look on his face. Taking her hand in his own, he allowed her to pull him closer, gently kissing her back and tasting the wine on her lips. He wasn't a fan of wine, in fact that was an understatement, he hated it, to the point where he was the kind of guy that would toss his drink in the plant at a party unless it was a good scotch, bourbon or beer.

"Ideally, things other than making me unpack for you, or fetch you a glass of wine?" He suggested with a wink, stealing another quick kiss before he sat back again, elbow shifting up to rest on the edge of the tub as he sat there watching her, his free hand moving to adjust his glasses. "But then, also ideally things that won't traumatize our new flatmate." He added, for comedic effect more than anything.

Lyndsay White

Lyndsay was concentrated on her task, but had half her attention on the building that the girl had fallen from. Numerous people seemed to be climbing into it, obviously searching for evidence, or just curiosity. She tried to keep her back to the scene though, keeping her hand and her mind busy, she already had the image of the girl's body ingrained behind her eyelids, she didn't need more snapshots to dwell on. She began to hum softly to herself to keep her mind busy, a soft country lullaby that her grandma used to sing to her when she was knee high. She jumped as she felt a hand tap her shoulder. Her hand flew over her heart, and she held back a curse that threatened to fall from the tip of her tongue. She turned to see an officer, the culprit for the scare.

"Well bless my heart officer, you scared the bajeezus otta me!" She let out a soft laugh, her southern drawl suddenly stunningly obvious due to him catching her off guard. She watched him tip his hat at her in apology.

"Sorry Ma'am, I just wanted to ask you a few questions, didn't mean to scare you, I'm sure you've had enough of that for one day" He gave her a sympathetic smile, which Lyndsay echoed with an edge of sadness.

"You're right, I have. Poor girl, bless her heart, I didn't know her, maybe smiled at her once or twice, that was it. She seemed sweet though. Lyndsay tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, rubbing a hand over her arm, goosebumps forming over her arms from the slight breeze that had picked up, asif the world was mourning.

"Well there's my first question answered. Which apartment do you live in? Have you noticed anything suspicious?"

"The rose building, with my husband Cameron, he's upstairs with a migraine, poor thing. He served overseas, and gatherings like this can be hard sometimes. I haven't noticed anything really, too busy unpacking and settling in, we haven't been here long." She saw a little sympathy in the officer's eyes at her mention of Cam, the usual reaction of those who seemed to understand a little.

"Alright Ma'am, that will be all. Just let any of us know if you recall anything odd." He smiled, tipped his hat at her and left her to her thoughts.

She smiled, nodded, and turned back to where she had been putting lids onto tupperware. She finished the last one, and looked up at the window of their apartment, she should probably check on Cam, she'd given him enough time to cool off, he'd probably be napping away the stress or doing a little exercise. She stacked up the last tupperware, smiled at Lawson at the smoker, and headed off up the stairs into her apartment.

It didn't seem odd that her session of police questioning had been particularly short, afterall; who would suspect a sweet little pretty southern belle.

Lana considered the woman she was now watching over and pursed her lips while she thought. She knew she was some kind of media person job thing... she worked for news channels or something from what Lana could recall. She had had no reason to look into her so she had kept a distance from her as she had no reason to get close. JD still hadn't said much in response since Lana spoke to her and moved her onto a chair but she suspected that the poor woman wasn't used to death that wasn't in a printed format. It was different when you could see the lack of life in a person's eyes or smell the metallic scent of blood. Lana knew how it felt to see your first dead body and she supposed that JD was going through the same thing.

Opting to keep quiet until JD responded to outside stimuli, Lana took another swig of her drink and watched the happenings around. She had mostly kept out of the way of the neighbours and only knew about the Mexican + Biscuit family, the Rockstar and Lyle because one was famous, the family was intimidating and Lyle was her flat mate. She was so busy in her own train of thought that she nearly choked on her drink as two rather cute police officers walked up towards her and JD. The taller of the two, blonde and muscular stood silently brooding in the back with a notepad and pen as the other, more lean and a red head, began to talk to her with a bit of a Boston twang to his accent. Lana always was a sucker for a carrot top.

"Why yes officer, would you like to restrain me while questioning? I won't tell your Captain, promise." She gave him a wink and watched his pale cheeks begin to flush slightly as he cleared his throat and commenced with his line of questioning, completely glancing over Lana's fliratious ways. Lana answered everything to her fullest extent, but embellished her reaction to the death so that they didn't find her suspicious so as to not have had a reaction. Granted her flirting could have tipped them off to her current mental state about the death but it could also be put down to shock so Lana wasn't overly fussed what they thought in that regard.

When the officers were done questioning Lana they moved on to JD and Lana had to crouch down beside JD and get her attention as best she could, waving her hand casually in front of JD's gaze and keeping her face in her view. "Hey, cutie pie, the cops want to question you. You okay?" Lana looked at JD with a little concern as she had been awfully quiet since grabbing Lana's arm and almost collapsing to the ground earlier.

Lorna Dunn

Location: Boston Heights: Courtyard – The Block Party

Grinning at the look on Lawson's face, Lorna went about her business with a simple nod of acknowledgement to him. She spotted El Jefe heading off to a quieter spot and holding his satellite phone to his ear. Who the hell was he talking to? No sooner had she thought the thought than Alicia had walked over and elbowed her in the side causing Lorna to grunt in surprise. "Oi, what the fuck have I told ya 'bout them bony as shit elbows?" She smirked as she spoke but it was soon replace by a questioning pursing of her lips as she mulled over Alicia's question.

"Not rightly sure, but I can bet ya ten skinned squirrels that it ain't gonna be pretty." She lifted a hand up and scratched the back of her neck as she considered what could possibly be worth the Mexican Beast to be using his satellite phone in this very moment.

A movement out of the corner of her eye caused her to growl audibly as she launched herself at the photographer from earlier who had been snapping pics of Riley at the EMT point with a brand new camera since she had busted his up earlier. "Oi, fuckface! I fuckin' told ya! Get your shit out of her ya god damn cunt!" She grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and threw him over the barricade again. He'd been trying to sneak in to get shots of the scene after the body had been removed. What for? She could only guess. After a few choice words had left his mouth making reference to her "pumping the latina", Lorna lost her temper and launched for him again, this time with a fist flying towards his shitty camera. Another smash and some bloodied up knuckles on her end concluded the interaction and she grabbed the camera from him along with his bag of equipment for "evidence" purposes. She'd have fun fucking this shit up.

She made her way back to Alicia and smirked, shaking her right hand out some to get the feeling back into it. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Temper temper, blah blah blah. But that fuckin' shitbird was askin' for it, swear." She would need to get herself bandaged up soon but it could wait until things had calmed down some.

Cecily Ashworth

Location: The Block Party --> Apartment 3C

"Aside from being harassed by paparazzi and my pride slightly taking a hit i'm fine."

Cecily chuckled a bit, giving Riley's shoulder a slight squeeze. "Isn't there no such thing as bad publicity, though? Maybe you'll be even more famous now," she teased, quickly going into a far better mood. However, before they could head up, one of the boys in blue showed up. They quickly took Riley's statement, and Cecily flashed her little plastic forensics badge at them. She'd be filing paperwork later that would include her statement.

The pair of them headed into the apartment building and up the stairs, with Riley unlocking their apartment. "So i'm guessing that you are going to have to head into work again or something?"

She shook her head. "Wallace dismissed me. I probably won't be assigned to this case, conflict of interest and all," she explained. "But... I will need to go and submit my photographs of the scene, video, findings, and I'll likely do a sketch as well."

She laughed a bit, locking the apartment door behind them. Even when she wasn't working, her mind was constantly on work. And of course, she wanted to make things easier for whoever ended up taking the lead on the forensic investigation of this case. She had photographs of the scene before Wallace tampered with things--it would be an invaluable help for them. Not to mention she enjoyed doing crime scene sketches, even if her drawing of a corpse looked like it was done by a pre-schooler on a sugar high.

"Do you want one?" Riley asked, as she grabbed a beer from the fridge.

Usually, Cecily didn't go for beers. They tasted... well, they tasked like alcohol. She tended to go for things so incredibly sweet you didn't even notice the alcohol content. "I'm a light weight, but sure," Cecily said with a smile. Taking the offered beer, she went over to the couch, making room for Riley to sit next to her. She didn't know how her roommate reacted to Danica's death. For all she knew, she'd need someone to talk to.

And if there was anything Cecily was good at doing, it was talking about dead people.

"We can talk or watch a movie or whatever if you like," Cecily offered.

Caesar Gonzalez

Location: Block Party (remains thereof)
Interacting With: Flatfoot, Alicia, Lorna

Of course the police had questions. It's what they did. Asked questions, took notes, occasionally did something about it. He'd have put even money that any one of these reporters would bribe the police for access to areas he and his had fought to keep untouched. Well, fat lot of good they did, except piss off the media and frighten some of the locals. Maybe it would leave the wrong impression. Maybe that was a good thing. Caesar answered the cop's questions. They were direct and generic, as if the flatfoot was reading from an abridged edition of "Taking Witness Statements for Dummies". Not that it mattered there, either. He was inside when the lady took a dive onto an unforgiving surface, her life having already been taken by that out-of-place weapon. The only questions he could answer involved what came after, and they didn't appear to have heavy concern with after.

The interesting part of the interaction didn't lay in what Caesar said. Rather, what he didn't say spoke volumes. He didn't mention that he had HD video of the scene before anyone started poking around. He didn't breathe a word about the same video sweeping the crowd gathering as he worked the perimeter. And somehow, he didn't remember leaving the app running while he placed a call, giving an "after" shot of the terminal landing spot, as the coroner was finishing up. He must be getting old. Damned senior moments. (Señor Moments? Ole, bitches!)

Well, the cops were here, the Coroner was headed out, the body was sealed behind plastic, and the polite if nervous Forensic Tech had already left. They were fully able to handle their own crime scene without the assistance of independent contractors. No more damage for them to do, anyway. Not unless they just suddenly felt the need to. Time to check in with the girls.

Caesar suppressed a grin at Lorna manhandling that same reporter, again, and moved to join her and his Alicia. "M'hija, Cookie, good work tonight. I'll make sure you get an extra day of hazard wages in your accounts. Hey," he leaned in closer and lowered his voice just a bit, "...make sure you check the Network for new video." Caesar tapped his phone with his thumb, surreptitiously. "No rush tonight. Isn't going anywhere."

Stepping away from Work Mode, or at least appearing to do so for the sake of the public, Caesar lightened his voice and pulled up an image on his phone. "I had an idea. You two are my best people, you know? First time in my life, my best men are Women. A couple more show up, we need to get tattoos for you guys." The elder man turned his phone around to reveal the screen.

Joseph 'Tank' Cooper

He called in and reported all he knew, telling the folks back at the precinct about the evidence he had found, and asked about all else that had been reported in so far. "Appreciate it." he said, and put his cell back into his pocket, before letting out a breath. He could feel the wind against his hair as he stood up atop the building he had been investigating. Another officer approached him. "Sir, the entire perimeter is secure."
"Good." he said, and looked down at the block party, seeing all that was going on down there. Even after this, there was mingling and laughing, and a few broken reporters still gathering themselves up, he saw. He'd go congratulate the dream team, before going to find something to eat elsewhere. He doubted the blonde that messed up his ride would let him stick around to eat. "What else are we doing, sir?" the officer asked him. "Why are you asking me? I'm off duty." he told him, giving him a wink and heading downstairs.

JD Mason

Location: The Party

As she tried to shake the cobwebs from her head, JD caught a glance through the crowd of two unfamiliar faces...well actually one unfamiliar face, the other one though...Dominic?

"Dominic?"

No that was impossible. Her brother was thousands of miles away in the middle of butt fuck nowhere Alaska with that hot doctor he hooked up with in India. What was her .name again? Natalie? Natalya? Oh Natasha that was it. Knowing her brother Dom like she did, JD knew that he was probably ass deep in ice water trying to cuddle a polar bear and play cards with the abominable snowman...there was no way in hell he could be in Justice and looking like...well like that! Short hair, glasses, clean shaven...no that can't have been her brother, Dom has had a beard since he was like fifteen! He didn't wear smart clothes, he dressed in cargo's and long sleeves. All of this must've finally been getting to her, maybe she had something wrong with her brain just like he did. They were siblings after all. Maybe it was an hereditary thing? Damn you Minnesota farm life. Damn you all to hell.

"Hey, JD, you okay? C'mon lets get you a seat..."
"Here you go, you'll need some fluids after a shock. Do you need me to get someone for you? EMT, cop, someone to give you a big man hug? I'm sure our Southern smoker won't mind wrapping his arms around you to make you feel better..."

Time moved faster than a speeding bullet and before she knew it, Jess found herself sitting down with Lana holding on to her hand, playing the part of a comforting friend. She managed to let out a small giggle at Lana's comment of Lawson wrapping his big strong arms around her. It was true that another time, JD certainly wouldn't say no to a good rough and tumble with the blonde haired God of Thunder but the way her life was at that moment, it just didn't seem right, not yet, what on Earth would Peyton think? Besides, this time of the month she was more interested in girls anyway, though that'd probably change by next Friday.

"Hey, cutie pie, the cops want to question you. You okay?"

Lana's words broke her free from her hazy thoughts of random goings on. "Oh of course, yes officer erm, fire away" JD now understood what people felt like when she interviewed them for Channel 4. The world vulture never felt so apt, even if the person doing the questioning was only doing their job. She answered to the best of her ability; she had known Danica only to say hi in the street, she didn't really know much else other than her pass times. Jessica Dallas's shock soon gave way once the police had evaporated, it was replaced with determination. No more bodies, two was too many. It was time to get things moving, she knew now that she would have to be willing to risk everything.

She turned her eyes to Lana and placed her hands over hers. "Thank you, for trying to take care of me. Beautiful inside and out, don't ever lose that. I'm going to go upstairs, I have to I guess do some work or something" She offered the woman a grateful smile and hoped it was enough to thank her.

Well that block party was nothing that was expected and yet everything that was. Funny how that works out isn't it? The cops are wrapping with questioning people on the street but they are slowly making their way into the apartment buildings for Boston Heights. They have those of you that they have questioned personally already down on the street. Those of you that didn't get questioned on the street are greeted with a knock at your door and some very unhappy officers that they had to trek up or down stairs to find you so they could question you. They are knocking on every door since people didn't give them which apartment they lived in. Granted they didn't ask, so that is on them. Whether they questioned you or not, whether you saw it or not, they are knocking and questioning you now. The questions now are a bit more in your face.

"Why did you leave the scene?"
"What is your connection with the deceased?"
"Were you living here when the last girl committed suicide?"
"Why did you stay living here after she died?" or "Why did you move in if you knew someone died in this building?"
"What do you do for a living?"
"Did you see anything?"
"Who do you remember being on the street?"

And so forth. Those did not see Danica die are not let off easy, in fact they are even more pushy about it. This is not going to be a fun round for any of the characters either on scene or off. Why are the cops so in your face now and not earlier? Simple - Gregory has threatened them to actually do their fucking job this time. Several are moving around Gregory as he is preparing to head up to Danica's place to have a look around before finishing up for the evening.

Alicia Gonzalez

Location: Block Party

"Yeah, that is what worries me," she said as she stood there eying her father for a moment before her eyes drifted and watched Lorna take care of asshat. She couldn't help but smirk as the cop came up to her, watching Lorna and nearly running right into her. Alicia having to shove him back a bit to keep him from mowing her down and then snapping her fingers to get his attention.

"Yeah, sorry about that... So," he tried to begin before Alicia held her hand up.

"I am Alicia Gonzalez. I work for Machete Security Solutions. I was one of three from our Justice Office to help secure the scene. Danica Graves, the deceased I did not know personally but I had met her a couple of times. She was friendly enough and enjoyed running and parkour. Never seemed like trouble and wrote for the paper. I was not witness to the incident. I was in my apartment at the time with Tank," she said as she pointed over to him as he came down from the roof. "At the ruckus I drew my weapon and scanned the scene. Everything seemed calm enough for the situation other than the people on the ground dead from a bullet wound. We secured the scene and tossed several reporters off before they were able to destroy too much of the scene. I do not know who was here and who was not that lives here in the building. I do not know everyone here. I moved here to open a new office and dead people do not bother me. This city seems rampant with it. I doubt there is a building that hasn't had someone slit their throat or have a bullet put in their chest. So I doubt there is a spot on the application of residency for does it bother you if someone died here? That enough?" she asked as she finished, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Um, no, that covers it," he said as he handed her a card. Alicia taking it and nodding.

"Yeah, yeah I know, call you if I remember anything," she said before shaking her head and turning her attention back to Lorna and her father. At his question and the image he showed them she looked at him as if he had just lost his ever loving mind.

"Like hell I am having your face staring at people when I am in the middle of trying to get my bowchicawawa on," she said as she looked at the photo and then back at Lorna. "How about you Cookie? Want some guy having to look at that while someone is trying to take a nibble?"

Detective Roy Gregory

Location: Block Party

"What the fuck is wrong with you people? Do I have to do everything? Seriously? This was all the questions you asked? I don't care what I told you last time! Last time isn't this time! Now, go back and do it again! Come on, snap to it," Gregory said before grabbing several of the cops and pulling them over to the side.

"We are going to go and secure the woman's apartment now," he said as stepped over to what was left of the forensics team and pulling out the keys to Danica's apartment from the evidence. Perking a brow as he noticed the gun was gone and muttering under his breath. "Fucking pale faced troll," he grumbled before shaking his head and rubbing his face.

"Alright, get you gear and head up - Do not enter until I get up there!" he said before sending them off. Last thing he wanted was some rookie making a mistake on this and all he had right then was rookies. Well not all of them but several of them. Shaking his head he looked around as Tank came down and waved him over. "Tank, coming to check the apartment or taking the rest of the night off?"

Dj Lawson

Location: Out in front of Boston Heights at the Smoker

"I'll make sure to take ya up on that," Lawson said with a nod of his head towards Riley. She seemed like a sweet enough kid and didn't deserve to be mobbed by the press just because she had been there and who she was. He really had never had a problem with the press in the past but seeing things like this he was starting to understand why so many people just down right loathed them as much as they did.

Turning his attention back to the smoker he started cleaning things up, he would need to drive it back to the place he rented it from in the morning. He wanted to make sure it was in the same condition it had been when he rented the thing, wanting to get his deposit back. Looking over at Lyndsay as she was finishing up he smiled and called out to her. "If you or Cam need anything, have him ring me. I'll be up for a bit," he said quickly before going back to the cleaning as the cops started to move inside the building.

He sighed, he still had a lot of food left over and such. It would go to waste in his apartment, it was just him and while he could eat the ass end out of a rhino some days this was still too much even for him. Plus his fridge right then was filled with beer, leftovers, and frozen meals for one. Placing the fingers to the side of his lips he gave out an ear piercing whistle and smiled to the folks that were still standing around.

"Alright folks, we's still gots lots of food here, might as well grab a plate and take some home with ya's! Come on, load 'er up," he said quickly as he waved people over. He doubted anyone wanted to eat out there and stare at the spot where Danica's body had hit the ground but at least they could take it inside and eat when they felt up to it.

Risa Couri

Location: Apartment 1B

Risa smirked at bit as she lay there in the tub slowly sipping on her wine and listening to Lucas. "Oh please, the only way you would ever propose to me is to use it as an excuse to get me in a dress and seeing me hate every moment of it as I walked down the isle," she said in a coy voice. They had both been making comments to each other about honeymoons as of late and it made her wonder if they were actually at the point to take the next step. Setting her wine glass down on the edge of the tub she let out a relaxing breath and thought to herself for a moment. Could she actually see herself getting married? More than that she wondered if she would actually wear a dress.. Nah

Letting her eyes drift open she smirked as he returned her kiss. She knew how much he hated wine and half the time only drank the stuff anymore to see his reaction when they kissed. He seemed to tolerate it though, or at least not letting her see that he disliked the taste. Maybe she needed to switch to something else to try to push his buttons? Giggling as he stole another kiss she sat up fully and wrapped her arms around her knees looking up at him with a sultry twinkle in her eyes.

"Oh like cooking me dinner?" she joked as the smell of the dinner wafted into the bathroom and mixed with scent of her bubble bath. Grinning she looked up at him and smiled. "Seems you already have that covered," she added as she stood up and let the water cascade down her body as she pointed over towards the towel.

"Well unless you want our new flatmate to get a bit of an eye full you might want to hand me the towel so I can dry off and get dressed," she said as she placed her hand on her hips. As much as she liked to tease him she knew how he felt about her. For his eyes only was a phrase he had made her to say to her more than once since they had gotten together and truth be told she felt the same way when it came to him.

Her brow perked as she heard a knock at the door, looking over towards Lucas before taking the towel and wrapping it around herself. Outside of their door stood one of the cops tapping his foot on the ground impatiently. "Can you get that love while I get dressed?" she asked as she stepped out of the tub onto the soft mat to dry off.

Riley Ridgeway
&
Cecily Ashworth

Location: Classic Building 3C

Riley smiled softly and giggled slightly as she reached into the fridge once again grabbing a second bottle. "That is true." She said as she opened the bottle for Cecily and followed her roommate to the couch and handed it to her. "Well, I guess thats a good thing that you aren't on the case then right?" Riley asked as she took a sip of her beer and set it down onto the coffee table in front of them. Riley bit her lower lip for a moment as she throught about Danica a girl she didnt know all that well except for passing her by either at the gym or while walking. "I honestly don't know how you can handle seeing dead bodies all the time. I wasnt expecting to see that happen to Danica at all, even though I didnt know her that well." Riley said softly meeting Cecily's gaze.

Cecily shrugged a bit. "I....Hmm. A corpse just is like an empty house, I s'pose. There isn't anything freaky about a home when no one's there, unless you're the white girl in a horror film..." she trailed off, chuckling awkwardly. "Maybe I'm desensitized to it? I did see a therapist for a little while, when I first started work... But just know, grieving is normal. Doesn't matter if you didn't know them. It's human."
She reached out, and gave Riley's hand a squeeze.

Riley blushed softly as she felt Cecily's hand giving her's a gentle squeeze and smiled slightly and nodded she did work with bodies a lot. "I guess it's one of the perks with your job huh?" Riley said as she took another sip from her beer tucking a stray strand of her hair out and away from her face. "It was just so sudden though one moment we are talking the next a body comes falling to the ground."

Cecily nodded. "It could have been anyone... But that doesn't mean it will be, you know?" Pausing, she realized her advice was, quite frankly, horrible. The pair of them lived in Justice, of all places. It was practically the murder capital of the world. "And if someone does come in here, I've got a gun, and I think one of us could manage to shoot them...eventually." She smiled at Riley, glancing over at her face. "Things will go back to normal within a few weeks... It'll all be fine."

Riley sighed softly and nodded, she knew that they lived in a very dangerous city and murders, shootings, and other crimes were pretty much a daily thing. "Well it's good that we have something to defend ourselves with, it's locked up though right?" Riley asked she knew that there could be someone who could break into their apartment if they could. "I might have to buy myself a can of pepper spray and a taser with me, I do have some self defense training as well." Riley gentle squeezed Cecily's hand and blushed again before letting go.

"Yeah, it's in my room...inside a locked hollowed out copy of Harry Potter," Cecily blushed, tugging on her hair. "I know, I must seem kind of lame to you," She laughed awkwardly, attempting to get herself to stop blushing, but the blush only grew and became more severe. She took a sip of her beer, hoping that the bottle would somehow cover it up. "Hmm... You could get a bodyguard, maybe? You're famous. It makes sense."

Riley smiled seeing Cecily blushing which was rather cute. "I don't think it's stupid, as long as you know where it is and that its safely locked in should be fine. And I don't think anyone would expect a handgun hidden in a Harry Potter book." Riley said as she gently rubbed Cecily's shoulder. "I did sort of offer DJ as a body guard earlier when he was protecting me from a camera man." Riley smiled as she took another sip of her beer. "By the way you know you look even cuter when you blush like that right?"

"You should hire him! He looks strong. Reminds me of this one superhero, can't recall who though..." She chuckled, leaning her head against Riley's shoulder. "I'm pretty sure you're flirting with me, now. Do you, what did we say in middle school, like-like me?"
"I think you might be thinking of Thor or something? And I might if I have a show coming up or something, but right now I don't have any concerts coming up." Riley said and blushed when she felt Cecily's head resting against her shoulder and looked down at her. "Well i'm not gonna lie you are pretty damn cute." Riley smiled playfully.

Cecily nodded, sitting up again. "Yes! Thor! That's who he looks like! You should hire him, but make him dress as Thor. And sell pictures of him, you'd make a killing... Or, you know, you could just sell concert tickets like normal." She blushed again at Riley's comment, realizing though that it wasn't an answer. She wasn't going to force her, though. She had no clue how to function in a relationship or anything. "Well, you're very cute as well, Miss Ridgeway."

Riley laughed softly and shook her head for a moment. "I don't think that the big musically man would ever wear something like that unless you paid him a million bucks." Riley said as she blushed for a moment, though she had a few relationships in the past she looked at Cecily for a moment before leaning forward and pressed her lips up against Cecily's giving her a quick and gentle kiss before pulling back as she gently rubbed Cecily's arm. "Thank you Cecily.." Riley said biting her lower lip, she had a few relationships in the past that never worked out due to people knowing her for being famous.

Cecily blinked in surprise, the kiss over before she had properly realized it had begun. "My first kiss was with Riley Ridgeway...Your fans are going to be jealous," Cecily teased, before experimentally giving Riley a peck on the cheek. She nodded at Riley's thanks, feeling that none was needed. However, a knock at the door interrupted the moment.
"Probably the police coming to question us," Cecily said, though with their previous line of conversation about tasers and guns, she didn't particularly feel like going to the door.

Riley saw Cecily's response and smiled softly. "Well i'm glad I was your first then." Riley said and gently rubbed her cheek when Cecily kissed her on the cheek causing her to blush once more. She didnt want the moment to end, and groaned softly as she laid her head back up against the couch. She had already given her statement to them before going to their apartment. "Cops are moment killers.." Riley muttered to herself.

"Should we open the door, we wont be suspects if we don't open the door right?" Riley asked, when it came to law stuff she was clueless.
Cecily chuckled slightly. "If we don't open the door, they'll probably just kick it down. They've got probable cause, tonight, so anywhere is fair game."

Getting up from the couch, Cecily went over to the door and pulled it open, coming face to face with a woman in blue. She asked the standard list of questions, only to be cut off by Cecily raising her plastic, forensics badge. "Our statements have already been processed. Any questions you have will be in a report on Gregory's desk by tomorrow evening."
The cop hesitated, before nodding slightly, and leaving the apartment.

"Well, now the cop is gone," Cecily shrugged, returning to the couch. "Gregory must be making them do a proper job tonight..."
"Thats true, or they would send in the SWAT team or something." Riley said as she sat up and watched as her roommate got up and headed over towards the door, she watched as Cecily flashed her forensics badge at the female officer and couldnt help but smile as she remained quiet. Then she watched the officer turn around and left their apartment, Riley reached over and gently held Cecily's hand and smiled.

"Well good thing then maybe they would actually get some shit done, and do their jobs properly and get some real justice done."
"The case probably won't go to trial, though," Cecily grimaced. "Most cases don't... especially around here. Wallace is probably going to say it's a suicide, and that'll be that. You can't press charges against the dead."
"I don't think it was a suicide though, even if I wasnt as close to the body like you were just the timing seemed to coincidental with the girl who killed herself a few months ago. But thats just me." Riley said with a slight shrug.

Cecily paused, glancing around carefully. Lowering her voice to a whisper, she nodded at Riley. "I'm positive it's a murder. The burns, the residue...It's all wrong for a suicide. Someone is picking people off here, no idea why but... There's always a reason. Maybe it's drug related?"

Riley reached for Cecily's hand as she whispered towards her. "It's just the timing is way to off, I don't think Danica or the other girl Peyton was it? Were into the whole drug scene." Riley said shrugging slightly. "Or they could have dug into something they shouldn't. So many factors ya know?"

"True, I think Danica was a journalist? Maybe there's some sort of super secret organization like.... like the Crime Syndicate in the Suicide Squad comics!" Cecily proposed, giggling a bit. She yawned slightly, realizing how late it was becoming.
"Yeah probably." Riley said with a soft laugh as she noticed Cecily yawning and looked towards the clock for a moment. "Maybe my comic book lover should get some rest, you have been up for what over twelve hours now or something right?" Riley said as she looked at Cecily once more.

She paused, counting on her fingers. "I've...got no idea. But yeah, sleep sounds like a good idea". Rising from the couch, Cecily smiled at Riley, and headed towards her room. Closing the door behind her, Cecily collapsed on the bed, and quickly drifted off to sleep.
Riley smiled as she nodded. "Sleep well Cece!" Riley called out as she grabbed her beer, and drank the rest of it, and decided to finish Cecily's as well. She got up from the couch and made her way towards the trash can and dropped the two bottles into the trash can. Riley headed towards her bedroom and then closed the door and quickly just stripped down to her underwear not even bothering to put on her PJ's and just crashed onto her bed.

Letting out a soft chuckle, Lucas leaned against the tub as he watched and listened to Risa. "I hadn't thought of how hilarious that will be, should I go get a ring now?" He winked toward her. Despite the joking tone of his voice, Lucas did have a ring, and had for some time in fact. The two had been together for quite a while, and it was fairly evident to the two of them that there wasn't exactly anything that was going to stop them from being what they were. Lucas simply kept the ring a secret however, never thinking it was the time, or that he himself was quite ready for it, even as they joked rather often or made comments toward such a prospect. He'd ask when he was sure, or more likely, when he was fed up with hiding it.

Smirking at her response, he caught a whiff of dinner as the scent blew into the bathroom, it was coming along well it seemed, and it smelled better than he had even hoped it would. Watching as she stood, he kept his eyes on her, and of course, took a moment before he moved to stand and retrieve the towel. "Oh how i'm going to long for the days when we had a flat to ourselves." Taking hold of the towel, he turned back toward her and took another moment before actually handing it over, a wide smile splitting his lips as his eyes shifted up to hers.

Turning his head out to the hall as he heard the knock on the door, Lucas gave an over-exaggerated pout toward Risa as she asked him to go get the door. "I suppose I can make the sacrifice of not helping you." He chuckled, giving her a wink before he moved out and down the hall toward the entrance of their apartment. Opening the door, he gave a practiced smiled to the officer on the other side of the door and gave a curt nod of his head. "Good evening officer, how can I help you?" Watching the officer as he spoke, Lucas cleared his throat, deciding to be helpful and cooperative for a moment as he answered each of the officer's questions for himself and for Risa.

"I'm afraid we never actually 'arrived' on the scene, I just picked my girlfriend up from the airport, and we decided it would be best not to get involved. I'm also afraid neither of us actually knew the poor girl, we've only just moved in today in fact. Why? Cheap rent mostly, we're not particularly superstitious or anything, it was quite a few months ago." He breezed through the questions about the actual death and Danica, there wasn't much to really say for them. "For a living? I'm a high school teacher, my girlfriend works with the United Nations..." It was around this point the officer began to get a bit pushy.

"No, once again officer, neither of us saw anything. I'd be quite happy to let you speak to my girlfriend about is as well, unfortunately she's indecent at the moment. No, i'm afraid you can't come in and wait." Unfortunately, that seemed to make the officer a bit more pushy. "Officer, i'm trying to be as helpful as I can be, i've told you we didn't see anything, we didn't know the girl and until you told me, I didn't even know it was a girl. Now, we're rather tired as it's been a long day for us both. If you really need something, please, come back with whoever is in charge, good night." With that, he closed the door, letting out a frustrated sigh as he returned to the kitchen and his stew. "Asshole."

Location: The Crime Scene -> Her Apartment

After about 10 minutes more waiting, Mali was finally approached by a police officer: a somewhat weedy, young black guy who looked like he would rather be anywhere else at the moment but here and asked a short list of questions with even less enthusiasm than his expression and body language would suggest. It was over in about a couple minutes and the cop went off to do whatever else cops in Justice did. Probably nothing. Figuring her job at a crime scene was done, she walked back up to her apartment. She had made it into the bathroom and had just started to undress when a series of loud, heavy knocks traveled through the apartment.

"Son of a bitch." Mali pulled her top back into place and made her way back to the front door. In the meantime, the knocks hadn't stopped, only becoming louder with each passing second.

"Alright, alright. Goddamn, what is it?" And at the door was another police officer, this one a tubby guy with blonde dyed hair that didn't quite turn out right and looked a fair amount like piss. Going off his eyebrows, his original hair color was black. More prudent was his facial expression: stern and irritated, the look of somebody dead set on doing their job, whether they liked it or not. Just as soon as the words were out of her mouth and the door opened Mali was answered with a barrage of questions. Fucking police can't even ask a round of questions properly.

"My name is Mali Anson," she sighed. Mali crossed her arms and leaned on the door frame as she went about answering the policeman's questions, making no effort to hide the irritation in her voice. "and I left the crime scene because I thought I was finished with this charade. I already had answered a series of questions before, and I'm not just going to stand out in the street all night waiting around to do things I already did. She lived in the building right next to me, but other than talking to her maybe once or twice, I didn't really know her, nor do I know anybody in these apartments. I've only been living here for a few weeks."

"I decided to move in here because an apartment with a reputation because some girl offed herself is cheaper than one without, and living expenses are already high enough as it is in SoCal. I'm an underwater basket weaver. What the hell do you think I do for a living? I'm a bodybuilder. During the party I heard a bang over the music playing. I look up to where the sound came from and I see a body fall onto the table and make a giant mess of things. I don't know anybody here by name other than the deceased, so I couldn't tell you who was at the party specifically. That's all. Good night."
As soon as the questions were done, Mali slammed the door on the officer's face and turned around. Hopefully now she would be left well enough alone that she could undress and get some sleep. No sense in wasting the night when she wasn't going to be at the party anymore.
