Abraka-happen.

NOTES ON BEGINNING. Instead of starting at 100%, our spheres will grow slowly over the next few turns until biodiversity peaks, starting at ~5-10%. Edits to the sphere system OOC are still in progress.

The birth of your entity does not have to be anything like the Enclosing One's. It can be completely sudden and conscious. My post was long just so that I could describe the world and the nature of the entities. Probably too long, but meh. Intro. Anyway, no-one has to feel any pressure to write that much stuff into their intro post; You can pretty much ignore the first few paragraphs entirely.

Most of our early actions will be fairly similar, I'm assuming. Making rudimentary multicellularity, absorbing cyanobacteria to develope photosynthesis, becoming predatory, etc. Hopefully we'll get past that stage soon.

The little hider at the bottom of my post is just something I thought up so that we could all keep track of our spheres and what we did.

If players have questions, ask them before they start moving.

I need to go now. Be back in a few hours.

If you're wondering, I am already laying the ground work for poisons and toxins and venom which will probably be a staple of most of my creatures.

Hoping that making an extremophile wasn't too ambitious for first species, but it fits my Entity well.

@Termite: What I like about this RP, is the spore-like concept. I would like to create a species and see how it evolves. Is it possible to have another entity who's intent is to create a dominating species?

Like so:

The Ambitious One
Intent: To create species, unparalelled outisde it's sphere, in both gracefulness and lethality.
It likes the natural competition and wants to make a species that can outgrow it, using the strategy 'adapt to overcome', without a need to gain control over the planet, as it can see beauty and value in both chaos and order. But it's creatures will be second to no-one, and wherever they may go, they will prey on whoever was on top of the food chain. Before they came in.

So I very much would like to join this. Having read the entire OOC and the intro of the IC I find the concept immensely interesting and the mechanics very clever. However, I feel like I wouldn't know enough science to back up my entity's genetic modifications and the like at the early cellular level of the evolutionary scale.

Is it not necessary that it be entirely accurate as long as it is well written, interesting, and thought out to some extent? Or should I do some research on bacteria and the like, because I can very well do so if necessary and might do so anyways even if it's not ^_^;

Get back to me please. Either players or GM, hopefully both...at different points lol. Ciao for the moment.

*goes back to reading the IC posts to get a better feel*

EDIT:

*Finishes reading the IC thus far*

Title: The Matrices
Intent: To create a creature who serves as the ultimate medium, devouring other beings and storing their genetic codes in themselves and modifying them into their own. The Matrices wishes to create a being that can both assimilate life and split it off of itself independently, or symbiotically with its own kind. While this entity has no explicit goal to dominate the world which its children live on, it seeks to craft the genetics of a creature that cannot be overpowered by another without either great consequence or a loss of its own self in some manor. The Matrices' mentality is neither objective nor subjective, but rather free flowing allowing it to change and adapt its strategies and thought processes easier than most. While this is its primary intent, The Matrices is unlike most other entities, though it does not know of them, and can choose to change its goal or deviate from it somewhat to experiment.

However, the Matrices is likely to come back to its original goal due to its bias towards such an intriguing creature. Such is its nature.

Title: The Composer
Intent: To make a concordant ambience out of all the sounds made by the different life forms within The Composer's "area". The Composer seeks to force the disjointed sounds of all organisms under its control into making a more rhythmic, harmonious sound (though it doesn't actually care if said organisms are actually harmonious, just whether or not they sound harmonious). Though The Composer treats its supposed 'instruments' with care, it views anything discordant as a blight, and will attempt to get rid of the perceived pest.

Title: The Unmitigated One
Intent: This entity prefers to spend its time indulging in the creation of perfection, which of course cannot ever be attained. But it is this endless process and manipulation that satisfies the ever present need for intelligent release in this disembodied being. It aims to create organisms of perfection, but will never turly fulfill the aim, knowing well that there is always room for improvement, always traits and instincts and processes to be tweaked and elaborated upon. The entity ponders in its inter-dimensional thoughts of the possibilities of perfect hunters, perfect prey, perfect consumers and decomposers, perfect balancing microbes to create a perfect atmosphere of gases. There is no end, and there is no begining, and there never was, and so there is no limit, there is only absolution in the drive to continually improve and create.

Some changes to the first post finally finished, and new players added.

But but but I'll miss your signature. :( Goodbye, and good luck.

Might want to talk to Tobiax on this one. I like your take on it more though. For now it's in.

marcopolonian said Bleat

Genius! Glad to have you.

tobiax said That would be "make an ecosystem that in short makes sense"

Edit your sheet appropriately and find something to set it apart from SoulSerenity's goal and it'll be fine.

yoshua171 said Bleat

Hmm... Seems quite meta. I guess it's alright, though.

As for scientific accuracy, the general rule is: If it reads nicely and doesn't godmod, it's probably fine. Science is still desirable though. If your entity makes an adaptation, try to see if there's a similar thing in the real world to use as an example.

Kyelin said Posted.Hoping that making an extremophile wasn't too ambitious for first species, but it fits my Entity well.

It's fine and it does, but remember that life pretty much started with extremophilic bacteria, and simple cells are a lot more durable than complex ones, so wherever you go, they'll usually get there first. Still, this means that you can live with them symbiotically and/or use them as a food source. Have fun!

Meta? How so? I'm just going for something bizarre and unlike the other entities already created. It'll make a bit more sense later I suppose. It'd be a lot like a virus, kind of, that hijacks the DNA of the cells in other organisms and modifies them so as to reproduce themselves.

Idk, I made the goal so that it's interesting and different, but also tweakable if it doesn't make sense or is the like.

They are rather different. That which moves, while not "aware" of it, does not seek perfect beings. In fact, That Which Moves would create what could be seen as imperfect, flawed, or useless beings at times.
Was I super vague, or are we just not able to come to similar terms when it comes to what I mean?
Anyway, the RP's moving a mite fast... not sure I can keep with it, especially with no subscription system... I know I should read all the IC posts to see if they effect what I'd be doing, but I don't know if I'll be able to...

Yep

tobiax said They are rather different. That which moves, while not "aware" of it, does not seek perfect beings.

That's the thing. What exactly does it seek? Sure, it doesn't mind if it makes 'mistakes', but what's it trying to do that it makes 'mistakes' in the first place? It's starting to sound like something like a cross between the Tinkerer and the Unmigitated One. Does it try to create a stable ecosystem but not really put much effort into it? Or make an ecosystem that has a lot of loose-end type organisms that just exist in their niches and don't have much connection to anything (i.e. NPC ecosystems everywhere)? I recommend you rewrite it or choose another theme. :|

Not really, it's only a few posts so far. Like I said, mine was long so as to describe the nature of the Entities first. There's also the hider boxes to skim through if you're really that rushed.

So... It's pretty much the same 'try to create a singular ultimate species' idea, except it does so by stealing genes (not sure if that's a thing IRL but it can be here, if you can make it work), stealing the qualities of other organisms and assimilating them... Or like a virus, that tries to assert its own DNA over other species (absolutely no idea how that would work). All I'm thinking about is that it doesn't leave much for the entity itself to do, seeing as the species manages its own DNA either way. :|

Ed: Ok so I lost computer access halfway thtough a post, and it'll be up either within a few hours or tomorrw morning. Everyone just keep doing whatever it is you think you're doing. You can grow a further +5% if you so desire.
