Jack Hudson

Location: Building F (The Newnans' House)

Jack tore himself away from the window, tapping his fingers absentmindedly against his leg. In some ways, the entire situation reminded him of his days with the police. Vigilantes were incredibly rare, but he had heard stories about encountering them from other officers, mostly those who worked homicides. They had the best of intentions, but that didn't excuse them from the law. And neither should James be excused. The moment anyone was above the law in Newnan, the town would fall apart.

He was grimacing as he left the bedroom, a piece of glass crunching underneath his boot in the kitchen. He had almost entirely forgotten about the shattered glass, while somehow simultaneously remembering Tatiana's injury. His mind was focused and scatterbrained, all at once. And while he knew Tatiana didn't want him to bend over backwards for her, she wasn't here to stop him from doing it. Stepping over the rest of the glass, Jack grabbed a broom and dustbin, working on sweeping up the glass on the floor.

There was something strangely musical about the soft noise of glass sliding across the floor. It brought an odd smile to his face, enjoying something that was so normal. Most people alive in the world today, he figured, didn't have time to be worried about a little glass on the floor. Hell, the first day he was in Newnan, his hand had been cut and bleeding because of glass. It didn't take too long until the glass had been swept up, but there was still little bits of blood on the floor. While he was tempted to just clean it up with water, he knew there were more sanitary options--options that would keep the house safer and cleaner for Tatiana and their baby.

Beatrice Decker

Location: Franklin Addition Building C3 (Beatrice's Apartment)

Beatrice watched Riley pull Amelia into the hug, but she didn't process the scene in front of her. All she focused on were Riley's words, her news that James was not dead. He was simply going to be exiled, a belated death sentence in itself. The smallest frown, hardly noticeable, formed on her face. The laws in Newnan demanded execution. Ashton should have put the bullet in James' brain. Instead, he had decided to let the walkers do it for him. She wasn't certain as to whether or not to find that merciful.

She returned Riley's nod, a bit surprised that the woman wasn't shouting at her. She never got along too well with the Ridgeway Twins, despite only disliking the ginger sister. And despite Riley saying they should all head to the Mess Hall, Beatrice got the sense she wasn't included in the invitation. It didn't bother her too much. The three of them weren't friends. She stayed relatively silent as Meghna came, asking for Amelia to help spread the news after breakfast. Amelia's reply was quiet, but Beatrice hadn't expected anything else. The girl seemed painfully shy.

Once Riley and Amelia had left, after another nauseating kiss, Beatrice shut the door and took a moment to herself. She had been correct, it seemed, in the invitation not applying to her after all. She wasn't about to leave Newnan just because James had been exiled. Everything she had done had been in order to survive--leaving Newnan, at least at this moment, wouldn't help that. Unless someone else was murdered, she'd stay. Biting her lip slightly, Beatrice glanced around the room, before going through her belongings until she found her compass.

There was an hour until James would leave Newnan. She didn't want to give him something useless, something that would only slow him down. Sentiment wasn't worth much these days, even as it drove her actions. A compass, however, she figured could be worthwhile. And if he didn't want it, it'd be no skin off her back. She wasn't certain how much use for it he would have.

Chloe Ridgeway

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

"I'm fine," Chloe replied, squeezing Riley's hand a bit, though the tone of her voice was stiff. Amelia's sad smile towards her made Chloe feel slightly uncomfortable, purely because she hardly knew her. Smiles could show several different emotions, and Chloe didn't want Amelia to pity her. There was no reason for her to pity her, she reassured herself, but she couldn't help but feel a bit raw and insecure all the same. Amelia was just sad because everyone was sad.

"Kris's over there," Chloe pointed out, nodding towards the young woman. She saw Niesha head out of the Mess Hall, likely towards the infirmary. She sighed slightly, already feeling frustrated with work later that day. Froggy wouldn't let her in the infirmary without his consent, making her work situation feel ridiculous, awkward, and awful all at once. It was like her past failures were thrown in her face each time she reported for duty. "Let's go sit with her," Chloe added. She normally ate with Kris, after all. It was just like high school--regular lunch buddies. Of course, they didn't talk outside of lunch all too much. In many ways, their relationship felt artificial, existing purely because of Kris' closeness with Riley.

Chloe fixed herself a plate of food, chuckling slightly to herself as she glanced down at the tray. She turned her head to tell Ryan about a slight memory that had surfaced, one of the few successful murders she could remember from minimum security, but he wasn't there. She let out a slight sigh. Telling that story to anyone else in Newnan, she was certain, would only serve to reinforce the idea of who she was that they created, the idea that Chloe wanted to distance herself from if possible. She then took her tray over to Kristina's table and took a seat.

"You alright, kiddo?" Chloe asked, knowing that Kris and James had been close.

Ravi Chakrabarti

Location: Northern Parking Lot of Building 4 (Repair Shop)

While Ravi did feel frustrated with Gavin's answer, he was satisfied at the same time. At least the man wasn't blindly attempting to rekindle a relationship with Commander Martin, with Gavin having admitted that he had no idea how she felt and that she wasn't one to show emotions. The impending tragedy of emotional pain didn't seem so dire, now that he was assured that Gavin wasn't being naive. But at the same time, Ravi doubted that Commander Martin would ever need his protection. He might have been a sexy British doctor, but he didn't have any sort of qualifications for protecting a high ranking officer of the American military.

The comment about Ravi just getting in the way smarted a bit, but Gavin was right. The only person Ravi had ever killed had been his best friend, Liv. He still hadn't been able to come to peace with that fact, even though she had been turned. There had been moments over the years when the opportunity had presented itself, for him to draw blood, but he never took it. The emotional cost had always been too high, with Major and Clive usually taking care of the threat.

Yet he could never forgive himself if something happened to Gavin and he had made no effort to stop it. Gavin was right, after all. They were brothers. "Alright, mate," Ravi said, keeping the British stiff upper lip, and not begging the man to change his mind. He nodded at Miss Sally and sighed a bit. Tea would make any situation better. But as he saw Gavin kiss Thana, his confidence in the man was shaken, just moments after Ravi felt certain that Gavin wouldn't make too much of a foul of himself.

"A strong cuppa is probably in order," Ravi said to Miss Sally. "Which way?" He was hoping, of course, that Miss Sally would be able to do something about Gavin's recklessness. If the man was so hellbent on taking down Peachtree City, Ravi figured that perhaps Newnan might want to aid him as well. If Ravi himself couldn't help the man, he at least wanted to find people that could.

Riley Ridgeway

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Riley looked over towards Chloe feeling her sister giving her hand a squeeze as she gently patted Chloe on the shoulder, knowing that Richard and her had some form of friendship. Looking over towards Amelia as she gave her a slight smile as well as they entered the Mess Hall together. She looked around the room seeing Raymond and Tiffany sitting together as Riley followed her twin sister over towards the line, gathering food onto her plate. Riley then started to grab her silverware setting it down, when Chloe pointed out Kristina sitting by herself as Niesha was finishing up her meal and hen leaving the Mess Hall. "Sounds good to me." Riley said towards Chloe and then over towards Amelia, the three of them did have a friendship with Kristina after all, and seeing her sitting by herself Riley couldn't help but feel like she was feeling alone.

"Lets go and sit with Kris Amelia." Riley said as she made her way over pulling herself a seat and sat down across from Kristina, Riley was about to ask how Kris was doing, but her sister had already beaten her to the question. Riley started to eat away at her food already, she was pretty hungry as she leaned back in her seat pulling up a seat for Amelia to join the three of them as well. "Is everything alright Kristina?" Riley asked seeing the girl playing around with her food somewhat looking like that there was quiet a lot of things going on in her mind.

Riley then started to think about what the plan was, she would have to set up training sessions later on though with the deaths of three of Newnan's members and James being exiled within the next hour. She decided to switch things off, and have work in the afternoon sometime after James left. Riley started to take a drink of water, she needed to give James at least something to help him out when he was going to leave as well, and she wanted to say goodbye to James when he would leave.

Raymond Mendoza

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Raymond looked over at Tiffany and gave her a slight smile and nodded, he was thankful and cherished every day that he was still alive now to this point. Though with the death of Sana, he still wished that it could have been something that could have been prevented or at least one of them should have been saved. "I know, but I just wished that there could have been something that I could have done to help or prevent it from happening in the first place." Raymond said with a slight sigh, as he watched Riley, Chloe and Amelia coming into the Mess Hall, and Niesha leaving the Mess Hall. "I'll be right back." Raymond said as he stood up, and started to make his way over towards the line that was forming as people started to get their breakfast for the day.

Raymond started to put his food onto his plate and then grabbed and filled himself a cup of water, as he turned around Ray made his way back over towards Tiffany. He was pretty hungry as he started to quickly dig in, Raymond then started to wonder what to do for the day knowing that Tiffany once she was finished eating breakfast would have to go out and then spread the word about what had just happened. Some people were still asleep, or some of them were slowly waking up and may have slept through the gunshot that went through Newnan.

In the next hour Raymond did want to go out and say goodbye to James, he felt bad that he was going to be exiled from Newnan but he didn't have any say really in matters like that. Richard wasn't like much by anyone in Newnan, Ray didn't even like the guy either he decided to change the subject now away from the events that happened this morning to something else. "So after you are done with Meg's task what did you have planned after that?" Raymond asked looking at her.

Kristina Smith

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Kristina sat quietly at the table with Niesha, usually they would talk pretty often during breakfast and how their day was going things like that, as ate as well as played around with her food letting out a slight sigh as she leaned back looking at Niesha as her friend pushed away her plate of food. Kris gave Niesha a slight nod as she watched her friend getting up taking her plate putting it where they usually put the used dishes and silverware to be cleaned up. "I'll see you later then Niesha." Kristina said as she went back to eating her meal, she couldn't help but wonder why her friend James actually did that.

But it was something that she would probably never find out anymore, sure that James could most likely survive well enough on his own outside of the walls. But survival was harder on your own unless you had a group, or something that you actually did trust to have your back. Kristina then turned her attention over towards Chloe and Riley seeing the two of them, and gave the twins a slight smile and then shrugged slightly.

"I'm doing alright I guess, still processing what had just happened.." Kristina said, she was still doing her best to try and process everything that had been going on the last few minutes. "What about you guys?" Kris asked, she would mourn for Bryn and Sana but she wouldn't really for Richard. Sure she did feel bad for the man losing Zoie so long ago, but she did he best to just try and avoid all contact with him for the most part.

Tiffany Lyle

Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Tiffany sat down with Ray as they entered the Mess Hall. She felt bad that Ray was feeling terrible about Sana's death. It was hard to get a person to stop feeling guilty because there's always that thought in your mind wondering if you could have done something different. "I get that. I do. But there was no way for you or anyone to know. Even those closest to her couldn't have done anything. If anything, this is a wake-up call. We can't let our guard down, even inside Newnan. You never know what is going to happen. Also, make sure to talk to people if you are feeling upset or bad."

As Ray got up to get himself some food, she pondered the situation. She was tasked to go inform those that were unaware of recent events. She took stock of the room to see who was here and who was not. She remembered those that came to the scene of the crime. There were a few not present so she began to plot a course to make it as quick as possible. She wanted to go see James before he left. She didn't know him all that well, but he was always nice and fun to be around. It was a shame it had to be this way.

Ray came back and she stood up to get herself some food. She came back and sat down to Ray's question. "Not sure. I'll have to ask Meg if there's anything else Domestic that needs to be done, otherwise maybe make some arrows. Perhaps some target practice. Don't know about you, but I'd like to make sure my aim is still good. Just in case." If recent events showed, it's that you couldn't be prepared enough.

Amelia Payne

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Amelia quietly nodded to Riley when the other asked to go meet with Kris. Still gathering herself from the shock and the information she was presented earlier, Amelia herself wasn't sure what she wanted or had to do. She felt sad, it hurt so much, knowing one of her friends had passed in such a manner. Maybe it was because she had so few to begin with. After the zombies happened, she didn't have any friendships until she reached Franklin. Now Sana was... Swallowing the growing unease, she quietly walked moved with Riley. Kriss herself looked affected from what happened as well.

Amelia mumbled a quiet 'Thank you' as Riley pulled a chair for her. 'This is insane...' She thought realizing how that tragedy affected them.

“Same...” Amelia replied to Kris's question. Frankly her attempts to process it clearly weren't working well. The sadness showed on her face. Frankly she wanted to cry right now for the loss of her friends. She also felt a little guilty about it, maybe if she had tried to talk with Sana more. Maybe there was something she could have done...

Niesha

Location: Mess Hall (building 2)-> heading towards Infirmary

Niesha stepped out the mess hall mere moments after stepping in. She hadn't eaten much of her food, and doubted it would matter in the long run. She had something, and that was all that mattered to her right then. She shoved her hands in her pockets, standing there for a moment or two, before she started towards the infirmary. It wasn't a long walk, she knew from experience, yet she slowed her pace, dragging it out. She wasn't quite too sure why. Was she really that reluctant to do things today? Or maybe she just wanted a few moments to herself. There were times when she did just crave a few moments, or even hours by herself.

And then there were other times when she wanted to be around people. Today, she couldn't quite decided which she wanted. Alone, she thought that there was nothing she wanted more than to head back to the messhall, talk with Kristina a bit. And yet, she hadn't wanted anything more mere moments ago then to be alone.

It was going to be a long day, she decided. And maybe that was a good thing. Maybe days like this, of uncertainty. To know that you were truly live. Sometimes it was hard to remember that, when even behind the walls, you were just surviving. She thought on that as she entered the infirmary, glancing about to see if there was anything she could do, and if there was anyone else was there.

Ash Holloway

Location: Northern Parking Lot of Building 4 (Repair Shop) -> Building A (Ash's House)

Still holding James's woodaxe, Ash crouched low to the ground. His eyes seemed transfixed on the blood and specks of grey matter slowly dripping from the tough hewing blade of the tool, seemingly oblivious to the world around him. Maybe he should have shot James. Killing him would bring everything full circle and end any direct reprisals. But that wasn't who he was. Yes, it was a stretch of the rules here. Also yes, it might be considered favoritism. There was really no getting away from that, and it would make living in Newnan with him as the central authority harder; he didn't expect everyone would understand why he made the decision he did. Others might be sorely tempted to try something unpleasant or insubordinate, sarcastically throwing this incident in his face as to why it doesn't matter whatever they did, call him a hypocrite or claim he's being unfair. Examples might have to be made.

Perhaps that guy Ryan was right. Ash's compassion - what was left of it - was his weakness. He wasn't ready to completely give it up yet, though.

Despite appearing mentally closed off from his surroundings, Ash clearly heard the conversation between Thana and Gavin. He could feel heat rise in his face. The previous evening held meaning for him, more than anyone really knew. Not even Thana. To hear public conversation about this very recent arrival not only having a serious romantic history with her, plus carrying a torch for her all this time? Love was mentioned. Leaving. Waiting. Returning. Ash wished that he could have been insulated from the world as he appeared to be, but duty to the town and his people kept him acutely aware of every nuance and detail around him. Even so, he continued to crouch, regarding that woodaxe with apparent interest.

The time came when he refused to stay there any longer, listening to the tall Texan gush about his feelings for Thana. And why shouldn't he? If he kept hope for her survival against all odds and finally found her, who the hell was he to get in the way? An honorable man, he reckoned, would have backed out. If it weren't for Thana stressing certain syllables in otherwise innocuous conversation, hinting that she had chosen him as much as he had chosen her, he very well may have. But that was before Gavin's Big Reveal. Ash's rural Virginian upbringing demanded satisfactory response to this situation on his part, or a declaration of intent on Thana's. Either way, you can't make someone want to be with you. James was partly right. This indeed was a real sackslap. He just missed the timing of primary sackslappage by a couple of minutes. Not to mention the source.

Ash carefully placed the head of the axe in the steadily growing puddle of slush and shook it about, dislodging the vast majority of the gore from the item, and rose fully to his feet. He walked briskly to his home, just up the road a piece, axe in hand. At the moment, he just wanted to get behind private doors before his steadfast adhesion to the Stoic Arts was tested beyond his capacity to remain calm in that moment. He did not stop, did not address people whose paths he may have crossed on the way. Ash continued until he walked up his steps and reached his front door. There, he was forced to stop. Thana still had the key.

He looked down at James's axe, debating using it to smash open the door. After a tense moment, Ash let out a growl of frustration. It built wordlessly into a sustained, primal yell, and he flung the axe upon the smooth, fitted planks of his deck. It hit the wooden surface with a hollow clatter and slid a couple of feet away, coming to rest nearby. "Goddamnit..." he half-shouted through clenched teeth. He had a feeling of very specific helplessness; there were things he could do to change the outcome of everything that was going on. He didn't like any of this. But to do so, to change anything to make himself feel better would mark him as the most despicable sort of tyrant. And make the situation so much worse for everyone else. No, he was fair, or at least tried to be.

Instead, he slumped down into a chair on his front porch, head in hands. As an afterthought, he removed James's 9mm pistol from the back of his belt and lay it on the small deck table near him. Quiet tears, few in number, spilled from his eyes, a mark of utter frustration more than anything else, though Ash could tell you that a lot more was in there. He quickly wiped them away and fell into a solid brood. It was said that in Newnan, no one could brood like Ash, not even the most surly of lone wolf types in the present Apocalypse. It is a thing that, if he could somehow harness the power of Brooding, he might be unstoppable.

Right then, for the good of the community, Ash had to keep it together until he could get behind a door and into an interior room.

Black James(!)

Location: Building C (James's House)

Looking around his house, James was a little depressed to notice that there was very little he could actually take from this place. During his time in Newnan, he had amassed a respectable amount of stuff, but very little of it would be of use to him out in the world as it was. No matter how many Singing Billy Bass wall hangers he might have collected, nor the impressive number of different bottles of domestic hot sauce, none of this was going to actually help. So far as he was aware, James was going to have to start completely over, and to do so, he had to get back into his mindset of Roving Hog Hunter. There were a few sounders that might be around this area, or might be in a couple of weeks as the weather warms. He could take minimal supplies and attempt to set up a redneck, semi-rural homestead on the temporary. But it really couldn't be anywhere very close; Newnan had done a respectable job scavenging for supplies in the area. Though, there were a few places they hadn't gone yet... But that was not a "now" problem.

Nope, James needed to get the basics, equip himself as he was when he entered Newnan, what seemed like a lifetime ago. From here, he could probably get a couple changes of clothes and boots, his best hunting knife, and possibly a blanket or sleeping bag. He was sorely tempted to just grab his bug-out bag, the one that was assigned to him when he took up residence, but that might be an overstep. He was give time to assemble his own supplies; someone else might need it someday. If the Powers That Be here decided to gift him one, great. Considering he was supposed to be dead right now, James was most assuredly not in a favor-asking mood.

He did grab his bow, a finely crafted item with a lifetime of service left to it, and a full sheaf of arrows. It was an invaluable tool to him, out in the world. As much as his knife and actually more useful than his rifle for quick and quiet food acquisition. Anyhow, a few sundries down, and he looked to his armed escort, saying, "Aight man. Gotta hit Agriculture. Important shit o'there."

World Narrative

@ONL - The sun kept rising and the temperature kept warming up. Funny how the weather in Georgia worked. Cold, snow, and gray for days on end. Now, it seemed like spring was already breaking through and it was only mid-February. If things kept up at this rate Summer was going to be here by mid March and then the real season that was Georgia, Hell, would be there by April. But that was in the future. Right now, the minutes were ticking by and the snow was starting to melt. The warmer it got, the faster it melted.

There hadn't been another rumble since the first one, so there was no telling what it had been or where it had come from. Maybe it was a bad thing that there wasn't another. If it had been some form of machinery and there was silence now that could mean that whatever life was out there was now out of reach. Though, on the flip side, if it had been something natural, lack of said rumble could be the best thing to happen right then. Not knowing was never good though.

Alex tried to use his radio, and the battery was holding for now. At least it seemed to be. Yet there was no response on the other end of the radio; why? Could have been numerous reasons but whatever those reasons were there was no response, only dead silence. The only sound was the birds in the trees and then a gurgle coming from the east, maybe twenty yards off towards the line of early 19th century homes.

Thana Martin

Location: Northern Parking Lot of Building 4 (Repair Shop) -> Building A (Ash's House)

Thana watched Gavin as he strolled across street and stopped to speak to Miss Sally and Ravi for a minute. To her side she heard the crunching of snow beneath feet and she turned quickly to see Ash walking, no stalking towards his house. Blinking a few times she turned on her heels and quickly caught up to the Captain. She wasn't sure where he was going or why but he had given her an order to stay right beside him at all times until further notice. Thana followed orders. If she had a problem with said orders she would address it in private but these she had had no issue with. He wanted her close, for whatever reason, so she would remain close until dismissed. It really was as simple as that.

Or at least she thought it was. Stepping onto the bottom landing as Ash made it to the door she stopped. Reaching into her pocket since she had the key but then heard the axe hitting the porch and slowly her head turned from looking at the key in her hand over to Ash and her brow rising gradually as a perplexed look came over her features. Had he not remembered she had the key and that she was too stay close to him? Seemed not when he yelled, cursed, and then slumped into the chair by the door. She took a tentative step and froze for a second as he pulled the gun out only to continue up the steps when he laid it down on the table next to him.

When she saw the tears he was wiping away she sighed inwardly but still she let on no sign of emotion as she stood out in the open. Until she crossed that threshold and the door was closed soundly behind them she would remain the sailor she was. After that though, all bets were off. Ash and she needed to speak and it didn't need to wait another moment from the look of things. If he was starting to break down in public she needed to get him inside and post haste. She stepped right passed him and slid the key into the lock, turning it quickly. "I think you need to come inside Captain," she said in a professional voice as she pulled the door open and stepped inside. Holding the door in place she watched him carefully as she slipped the key back into her pocket. Things were probably about to get very interesting.

Gavin Comfort

Location: Northern Parking Lot of Building 4 (Repair Shop) -> Walking Towards The Mess Hall (Building 2)

Gavin walked towards Ravi and Miss Sally who looked to be talking while the rest of town was getting ready for James's departure. The clock was ticking and things had to be done. The blood needed cleaning up directly after the bodies and there was blood all over Newnan at this point. The entire upstairs of what had been Sana and Bryn's was covered in blood, the entire repair shop was covered in blood, the street and parking lot from the shop to half way to the infirmary was covered with blood. Domestic and those helping out with domestic would need to take the entire day to clean up the roughly twenty liters of blood splits from the three bodies in different areas of town. (Not to mention any bowel release the bodies did after death.)

Thankfully it was cold, that would slow down the swelling, gas build up of the decomposing bodies, and cut down on the chances of them "exploding" before thy could be buried - then again, digging through frozen ground was going to take more than one person and a shovel and a few hours. A lot more. No, this clean up job was not going to be easy, it wasn't going to be done before nightfall, and certainly not before James left.

"Oh, I keep those in my home. Not leaving them out for any bloody one to get their hands on," Miss Sally said before her head turned and she watched Ash storm off with Thana rushing quickly behind him. She had to give the girl this, she kept up with the man and didn't seem to have fear in her eyes. That was good.

Gavin walked right up to Ravi and gave him a quick hug. "Fergots that parts. Don't knows the next time I'll be so close to such a lovely beard," he said with a smile before tipping his hat to Miss Sally and heading off towards the Mess Hall. His guard was just hoping the man would sit down soon. He had to stop and Gavin got a bit more ahead of him than he would have liked as Jim drove passed in James truck. He had loaded the mans things up, including the bow and arrows and was heading to supply to get a few more things before heading to the gate. Once Jim passed him he rushed off, nodding slightly towards Niesha as he passed before he caught up with Gavin.

"Is it lunch yet?" he mused to himself.

Alexander Polawski

Location: Heading south towards the smoke

Alexander waited for someone to answer him with anything; a hello, Who are you?, or perhaps What the Hell?, but nothing happened. What else should he have expected really? While he was sure the walkie talkie was working, he suspected that they were either out of range or on a different frequency. There were other options, but Alexander's gut held onto those two.

"Well it was worth a shot." He told himself, pocketing the radio as he kept on walking towards the ever rising stacks of smoke. Looking up on the sky and sun, he smiled, feeling the growing heat spread across his face and outer clothing. It was indeed a welcoming change to the unloving touch of winter. The moment of enjoyment ceased to impact Alexander quickly, however, with a sound coming from Alexander's left, making him turn towards it, pistol raised and aimed at whatever it was.

It wasn't the same sound as he'd heard before, the low rumbling from far away. This sound came from a few yards away, somewhere near the long line of houses standing before him. They looked old, regardless of the lack maintenance after shit really hit the fan, but the gurgling noise was not something he had expected. What could it be? Seen as the snow was melting, perhaps it was water pipes bursting? Alexander had no idea, and without further inspection he probably wouldn't out. But did he want too?

Alexander decided that it was worth it, but also that extreme caution was needed. He hadn't seen a Walker for a while now, which only meant that the chance of him finding one was rising. Alexander holstered the pistol and instead armed himself with his trusted fire axe, before inching forward towards the noise. If it was a Walker, he hoped to outrun its frozen grasp south. If it wasn't anything, he had just spent valueable time he could have spent getting further south.

Jack Hudson

Location: Building F (The Newnans' House) ---> Building 1 (Infirmary)

Jack stared at the blood on the floor for another minute, before drawing to the conclusion that he'd need to run over to supply and get some bleach to clean it up properly. Water and soap wouldn't do much beyond changing the appearance of the floor, and he figured that Tatiana would be busy for the next hour with preparation for a massive list of wellness interviews. He'd be able to clean it up with bleach after he checked in on her.

He shook his head slightly at the blood in the kitchen, trying not to think about the messed up situation going on in Newnan. But it was hard not to. Most of the people there had come from peaceful lives, and with the safety of the walls, they'd return to those ways with their previous sense of security. They hadn't all been military personnel, refuges, cops, private security, professional boxers...It couldn't be helped, the regression. It was normal and to be expected.

Those thoughts continued to trouble him as he left his house and headed up Jefferson Street, before cutting across to Lagrange near the South Apartments. It was a more or less direct route to his wife--he still felt a little bit of happy shock when he realized Tatiana was his wife, not his fiancée. Eventually, he spotted a shock of red hair in the distance, heading to the infirmary. It could've been either of the two gingers assigned to help Froggy in the infirmary--Niesha or Chloe. A truck went by quickly as well and Jack grimaced slightly. It might have been his honeymoon, but he couldn't help but feel a little...useless. Newnan was being put through her paces and he had spent the morning cleaning up glass from the kitchen floor.

"Froggy, Tati, you there?" Jack called out, as he knocked against the door of the infirmary. The place was Froggy's domain and he didn't want to get underfoot. Especially when it was his wife who needed medical care. Since the outbreaks, good doctors were hard to find and Froggy was one of the best for sure.

Beatrice Decker

Location: Franklin Addition Building C3 (Beatrice's Apartment) ---> Heading down Lagrange Street

Beatrice slipped the compass into her pocket and opened the door, headed out towards Newnan proper. It used to be her profession, tracking and stalking individuals. She was paid to get inside of a person's mind and figure out where they would go, but computers tended to do most of the work for her. Quick checks online and she could usually get a location, and then send the client a bill for her services anyways. A girl had to make money somehow.

Riley hadn't mentioned where James would be, a fact that Beatrice found to be incredibly helpful. But if she were about to be exiled for murder, Beatrice figured the first course of action would be to round up needed equipment and supplies. Some may have gone for more sentimental belongings, keepsakes stored in the home, but those didn't help against walkers. Still, James was a lead--he likely had some equipment stashed at his home. Heading there to look for him to hand off the compass seemed to be a fair bet. And if he wasn't there, she figured she'd run into someone from security who could point her in the right direction.

There was a fair amount of slush in the road, with the toe of Beatrice's shoe sending little pieces flying as she walked, her hands stuffed in her pockets. She was mildly hungry, but she had time to drop off the going away (likely to death) gift to James before eating. Riley was her boss, anyways, and she knew that girl was likely going to be emotional. Hell, her secondary job required her to report to James anyways. It'd be odd, Newnan existing without James inside of the walls. It'd be a little emptier...probably a lot quieter, too.

Chloe Ridgeway

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Chloe giggled a bit at Riley's voracious appetite, noticing the way her sister was going to town on her food. It reminded her more and more of that previous memory, a memory that wouldn't just leave her alone. It was commonly accepted in camp that no one insulted the cook's food--otherwise, they wouldn't be fed. Period. The guards didn't care and if it went on long enough, the offender was taken away in a body bag, dead from starvation. She had only once seen it go that far, but with Riley eagerly eating the food, Chloe was reminded of one of the girls devouring food after being denied it for weeks.

She noticed the way Kris was playing with her food, of course. The girl had seen a lot, but Chloe couldn't help but feel that Kris was still a kid at heart--a kid who should've been spared from this sort of tragedy. "I'm...I'm not okay," Chloe replied honestly, her fingers tightening slightly around her fork. "But that's fine, y'know? It's all kosher and shit to not be fine after stuff like this." She wasn't opening up for herself, instead hoping that Amelia and Kristina would look a little less tortured, a little less morose. "Shit happens for reasons we don't understand...It's always got a way of going down, y'know? And there's not much we can do to stop it."

It felt a little strange, giving that advice to Kristina and Amelia. She used to say that all the time--shit always has a way of going down. It had been ages since she voiced that sentiment, but after the events of this morning (especially in juxtaposition with the wedding) it rang true for her. Sometimes, things just had to happen and they couldn't be stopped. Tragedy would come no matter what, in one shape or another.

"But keep your chin up, yeah?" Chloe added, before spearing a piece of food with her fork. It was the most emotional sharing she had done in ages. Hell, the last time had been about four years ago, during her detox tour across America. And then before that, it had been when her friend Marc visited her in prison, attempting to help her sober up. But it took the world ending for her to get clean and she still hadn't learned to not bottle up her emotions.

Ravi Chakrabarti

Location: Northern Parking Lot of Building 4 (Repair Shop)

Ravi nodded, chuckling softly at Miss Sally's remarks. He understood the need to hide one's valuables, especially when it came to a proper cup of tea and accompanying treats. It was needed before the outbreak, that type of hoarding, and it was even more necessary now. He remembered all of the things he had hidden from Liv in the morgue, knowing that she would ruin them somehow with her odd dietary pleasures. He could've sworn he caught her adding hot sauce to tea once.

"Blimey," Ravi muttered under his breath, watching alongside Miss Sally as Ash ran off in a huff, followed by Commander Martin. There was definitely more to this situation than met the eye, and Ravi couldn't hope that the Captain's anger merely had to do with the murders. He didn't want to entertain the notion that Gavin had been the cause of it, but he wouldn't have been that surprised if Gavin was. Ravi imagined his friend was the type to get into fights at pubs quite often before the world had gone to hell.

"Well, if you ever are in close proximity to one that could rival mine, I would be perfectly fine with you destroying the competition," Ravi joked, returning Gavin's hug. His smile faded as his friend tipped his hat towards Miss Sally and left, leaving the pair of them still at the scene of the crime. It wasn't like Ravi had much of a clue where Miss Sally's home was, so he looked at her for direction. For all he knew, she lived inside the building the murder had happened at--though he sincerely doubted it. She hadn't come from inside the shop.

Riley Ridgeway

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Riley looked over towards Amelia seeing the look on her face, she was taking this hard just as much as she was Riley gently reached over resting a hand onto Amelia's shoulder looking into her eyes. "I'm there for you, know if you want to talk about it." Riley said softly towards her as she gave Amelia a kiss on the cheek giving her a sad smile. Sana was a friend, and they got along pretty well together when they weren't busy with duties. Riley gently brushed a few strands of hair out and away from Amelia's face turning her attention over towards Chloe.

She listened to Chloe's advice giving her sister a soft smile as she heard her talk to Kristina, it was true there was nothing that could have been done to prevent Sana from killing herself or Bryn. Though if there was someone else near or around James or Richard that could have possibly been prevented. "Shit does happen for a reason one way or another whether it is good or bad." Riley said as she finished eating the rest of her breakfast looking between Amelia and Kris. "All you can really do is just try and continue forward." Riley said as she took a sip of her water.

Raymond Mendoza

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

"I do have you to talk to though like I usually do." Raymond said giving Tiffany a loving smile, if there was something that usually happened or he was stressed out about something he always did go to Tiffany first before anyone else he watched as Tiffany excused herself to grab some food herself. Ray continued to eat his breakfast as he looked over towards the table where the Ridgeway twins, Amelia and Kristina were sitting together eating and talking. Most likely they were comforting one another about what had happened, it was still a shock at what had happened as well to everyone.

Then Tiffany came back carrying her plate with her as she answered his question, cleaning up the bodies of Sana, Bryn and Richard were going to take quiet awhile to clean up. "That's going to probably take awhile to clean." Ray said, feeling bad that Tiffany would have to go around and spread the news of what had happened. "Do you want me to come with you and spread the word?" Ray asked, even though he wasn't assigned to domestic, he really did want to go and help out wherever he could. Meg also probably would need all of the help that she was going to get cleaning up Sana and Bryn's place now as well, and also burying their bodies the weather wasn't the best the last several weeks.

Also target practice wasn't a bad idea, at least with a bow and arrow, they were pretty low on weapons and ammo from the gas leak several weeks ago that was their first night in Newnan remembering hearing the stories and aftermath of what had happened. "Target practice isn't a bad idea either." Raymond said smiling towards Tiffany.

Kristina Smith

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Kristina sat her fork down looking over towards Chloe as she started to speak, it felt better to talk to someone about what had happened she was really close to James. He was also her mentor when she first got here, and usually the man was always really happy and always made you smile or laugh. Kristina gave Chloe a slight nod letting out a slight sigh, though one good thing did come out of it she wouldn't have to deal with Richard anymore. Remembering her first day coming to Newnan, and seeing Richard's face there she remembered that she did enjoy hitting the man for leaving her sister to die.

Kristina nodded, she always did her best to try and keep her chin up but now most days were you always weren't sure if it would be your last day or not or if you would end up losing a friend or a loved one. Or they would never come back after being sent out on a run, that was something that was always on her mind. "I'll try to." Kristina said softly, four years ago she was simply a high school student on her way home from school they were let out a few hours early. And on the bus ride home, Kris remembered seeing her very first walker tackling a man to the ground and taking a bite out of his face.

"Its still just shocking that James had done that though, he was always a really calm, collected and always a carefree person.." Kristina said, though Richard did have it coming to him at one point or another.

Meghna Kumar

Location: Building H (Vacant)

Meghna slowly opened the door to Bryn and Sana's former home, she looked around halfway expecting a walker to come out and jump out at her she made her way over towards the stairs carrying the cleaning supplies that she had grabbed. Meg made her way into Bryn's room, seeing the bodies of Sana and Bryn laying on the ground by the bed. It was gruesome to see, something Meg hoped wouldn't happen to either her or her brother Sid. Meghna set the supplies down onto the ground, she started to slowly pull the bedsheets off of Bryn's bed spreading it out onto the floor.

She then went towards Sana's room doing the same thing as she took the bedsheets and spread them out onto the floor, she wiped away a few tears remembering the night before. They were alive and well, everything seemed to be well for them at least from what she could tell, Meg started to then wrap the bodies under the bedsheets as best as she could. This was an impossible task, something that would most likely take until nightfall if she didn't get any help from anyone.

And not to mention having to also dig up some holes to burry the former members of Newnan, letting out a slight sigh as she finished rolling the bodies up as best as she could. Looking down at the bloodstains on the carpet, Meghna would let out another loud sigh wiping away some sweat. Meg started to pour the bleach onto the carpet and started to do her best to clean out the blood that was spread out onto the floor.

Tiffany Lyle

Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Clean up? Christ, she didn't want to think about that. It had to be done, of course, they couldn't all continue living knowing (and probably smelling) the dead bodies of their former friends/allies. She wasn't asked to help with that, for which she thanks whatever god was watching over them. She would have helped if asked, but she damn sure wouldn't have liked it. Ray was thankful to have her to talk to and vice versa. She didn't have many people she felt comfortable confiding in, but Ray was one she knew she could always go to.

Tiffany had already mapped out her route to letting people know what happened. It wouldn't hurt to have Ray come along. "Sure, if you want to come you can. We don't have too many to tell, plus I imagine word will get around eventually, but it would be best to make sure they hear from us rather than through the grapevine." She continued to eat, glancing over at the other tables. They all were at a wedding the other night and now they had to deal with the aftermath of this tragedy.

Target practice was definitely needed. She felt she was getting sloppier as the days went on. She felt weird not having her bow on her person. Considering ammo was scarce, it made the fact she could make arrows even more urgent. She would have to make some more soon. Maybe after practicing? She finished eating and waited for Ray to finish. "Ready to head out?"

Amelia Payne

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Amelia didn't really reply anything with words to Riley. She simply smiled with sad quiet demeanor and nodded, burrowing once more into her own mind, trying to sort this out. Talking about those emotions was not... it was not the mess hall's location for such talks. Besides she was not the only one affected by it, all of them were. Still talking about things such as emotions and grief just appeared to be a more personal and intimate thing that she wasn't ready to do out in public just yet.

'James's too kind...' Amelia thought, hearing Kristina's statement. He was friendly and caring and probably that was what pushed him over the edge and into acting without thinking. She agreed with him actually. Her herself had tried to kill off that crazy frenchman back then. She couldn't blame him for doing what he did, especially after knowing Richard.

“I wish there was something we could do for James before he leaves...” Amelia eventually said quietly. If they could give him something to help him out there it would be great. A weapon or a tool? Maybe even a simple better coat. Anything to help him survive, but sadly she didn't have anything she could gift him that could be of use.

Niesha

Location: Infirmary (building 1)

Niesha returned Gavin’s nod, although she was more into her own thoughts… she sighed softly. There really was no point going over and over the same thoughts in her mind. She just couldn’t top herself… it was always the same, trying to find some logical in an illogical situation… as with everything that involved humans and emotions, logic didn’t seem to play a part in it. She sighed again, gaze going towards the ceiling for a moment or two, drawing in a deep breath.

She wasn’t going to cry.

There was no point to it. At the knock on the door, she turned back around, managing a half smile for Jack, which quickly faded. She wasn’t good at reading emotions, despite her time here, it had never been something she was good at. Oh, there were times where she showed a hint of insight to people, but it wasn’t often… she was better with kids… kids were generally completely honest, whereas adults had had years to perfect perfect faces, lies… She knew she had gotten better, but...

”I don’t think either of them are here- at least I haven’t seen either since I stepped in a moment ago. I was just seeing if there was anything I can do…” she blinked, a small semblance of shock rolling over her features for a second. She was rambling… she never rambled… or it was something that was a rare thing. The morning’s events seemed to have phased her more than she thought. She drew in another breath, cleared her throat, remembered that she was a medical professional, even if there was no such title in this world anymore. ”Sorry, Jack. Maybe I can help?” had something happened to Tatiana? No, of course not, he’d been looking for her… she didn’t quite know where her mind was at, and she struggled to bring it back to the task at hand. ”Has something else happened?”

World Narrative

@ONL - Over along the line of houses the sound grew and there was a splashing sound that seemed to echo slightly. Water was dripping off the eves of the houses and onto the ground but that sound was a lot different than the other. They were obviously two different ones. Very different. It wasn't until one looked passed the third house and towards what would have been the back yard that the sound really started to grow.

In the back just above the melting snow line seemed to be a ring of worn out stones. Once one got closer they would be able to see even more. It was a well. Long out of use and the snow piled up around it was probably close to four feet deep but due to the drift it was almost level with the top of the snow. Inside one could hear the gurgling sound. It was a walker alright. Half frozen, half defrosted. It's mouth trying to gnaw and nip at the ice it was wedged in at the jawline. It was a sad sight, more like pathetic but at least it wasn't close enough to the top of the well to get out. The well went down probably twenty feet or more, the water and ice bringing it up to around ten but that was still ten feet from the top edge of the stones.

Gavin Comfort

Location: The Mess Hall (Building 2)

Gavin laughed to himself as he wandered into the Mess Hall and looked around for where he left his pack. The thought of finding someone with a better beard than Ravi's tickled him. Hell if he did find someone he would do everything he could to keep that bastard alive just to bring him back here and show him off to Ravi like some prized buck on the wall. It would be worth the trouble to see the mans jaw drop in awe. He wished he could have shown Ravi some of the mustacharies back in Texas before the outbreak. Especially the House of Coiffeur!!! He knew Ravi would have had a field day in there getting his beard tended to, waxed, and munching on their prized Wild West Style Wrapped Candies! Those things were heaven! Though Gavin had to admit he never got into the sugared butter shavings.

Finding his pack he picked it up and slung it over his shoulder before grabbing the tray he had left there and finishing it off quickly and busing it. His guard came up to him and asked him if he was ready to sit down. To which he got a resounding no. He wanted to find James. His guard didn't like the idea of trekking all over Newnan to find James, so he put out a radio call on the general frequency of Newnan. "Need James location," he said.

"We are at Agriculture," James escort radioed back. Gavins guard grumbled under his breath and hooked his radio back to his belt. "Can I at least grab a cup of grits to drink?" he asked quickly. Gavin chuckled and nodded. Might as well eat and run, it was best.

Miss Sally looked over towards Ravi and slipped her arm through his. "This way. Tea and hobnobs await!" she said as she started to walk back towards her building. It wasn't too far and they were there quickly. With the snow melting it was getting easier within the city to move around. They had shoveled the streets and sidewalks, so it had little to melt at this point. The piles of snow heaped up everywhere in between was another story.

"Come on in," she said as she opened the door to her apartment. "I'll put the kettle on while you tell me more about this bloke Gavin and where he is going. Wonder why he would find his love only to leave again so suddenly, must be a right brilliant story."

Tatiana Korvo

Location: Infirmary (Building 1)

Froggy pushed the swinging door open that lead back into the towns make shift OR, pulling off a pair of gloves that had some blood on them. "We are here," he said pushing the door open a little bit more and revealing Tatiana sitting up on the bed with her foot propped up on a pillow. It was cleaned up now and wrapped.

"Niesha, could you fix up a small bottle of the herbal astringent from our stock? Something little bird can take home with her and some extra guaze?" Froggy asked her as he tossed his gloves into the trash. "Go ahead, check on your wife. She is good now, stay off foot as much as possible until I take stitches out," he said to Jack and Tatiana held her hands up in defeat a bit. She knew as soon as Jack was told she was to stay off her feet she wouldn't be walking anywhere.

"Hey Nies! Nothing bad, just stepped on broken cup. Got startled vith shot, dropped cup. Silly me," she giggled. Then Tatiana's eyes got wide as she had an idea. "Froggy! Can you teach Nies to be my midvife?" she asked and then giggled again as she set her hand on her belly. She hadn't told many people yet she was pregnant and she didn't know if Niesha had found out yet but she liked the idea of having a woman around when she was giving birth.

She loved Froggy, like a father, and trusted him but she really liked Niesha and figured this would be a good chance for her to get some more training. Niesha looked like she could use a distraction anyways, Tatiana knew she could herself. She knew she would have to talk to James before he left and then try to get everyone onto her couch eventually for a talk.

Smiling over at Jack she held her hand out to him. "Did you eat yet?" she asked, worried about their breakfast going to waste.

Black James(!)

Location: (headed toward) Agriculture

The journey toward Agriculture was unusual for James. Generally he was the only armed man there aside from the ubiquitous personal knife, and he tended toward slower, leisurely paces toward the area. Times past, he'd stop by the residence on the corner along the way and visit for a minute or two, drop off some fresh corn or just shoot the breeze. Friends lived there, or used to. Now as he walked by, his thoughts drifted back to the events of a few hours ago. Their corpses were still in there. Quite possibly, part of him would always be there, too. A dark memory that challenged his world view. Like it or not, he changed a bit inside of the dark residence.

Actually arriving at Agriculture was a relatively simple affair. The slowly dissolving white cover of frozen precipitation blanketed the area where they would be planting that year's crops in a few weeks, or their early ones, at any rate. James would not be there for it, though. He dearly hoped that he had passed along enough information and basic know-how about their farming setup. Newnan needed to eat. "I'll just be a minute here, y'all." he said quietly to his escorts. He was being straight with them, too; the big guy just needed to grab a couple things - namely his notebooks.

The Captain had spent a long time working on compressing his working knowledge into easy to follow steps that took care of a fair portion of his essential duties. It was not a series of exhaustive textbooks, detailing the every nuance of his scientific and technical knowledge, but it was an excellent outline on building and maintaining a community. James took his example and did the same with some of his working knowledge, Agricultural plans for the community's future being most prominent. And they were big plans. Someone in Newnan needed to continue his work now that he would not be around. People needed to eat.

James put them into a reusable grocery tote bag and stepped back out into the morning. "Little somethin' for Bossman." he explained.

Ash & Thana

Location: Building A (Ash's House)

Ash slowly stood. He collected James's axe and pistol with as much dignity as he could muster, and stepped inside of his door. Of course, he had quite overlooked such trivialities as telling Thana to stick close to him. He was in the middle of kicking his best friend out of town, three people had died on the first night he had taken off in a year, and the woman he had seemingly, impossibly, found a real connection with was very publicly visited by the six-foot-five Texas Ranger "Ghost of Relationships Past" that expressed very real interest in picking back up with her. Given the circumstance, Ash wouldn't be surprised if he had overlooked more than just that.

Watching him, Thana waited while he picked up the axe from the porch and the gun. She looked around the yard for a moment to see if anyone was coming but it seemed pretty clear right now, thankfully. Turning her attention back to Ash she kept an eye on him as he stepped into the house. Letting out a slight breath she started to let her professional demeanor lapse. They were in the house now and she was closing the door. Time to address the elephant in the room but as the door clicked in its latch Ash beat her to it.

"I'm going to be straight with you." he blurted out the second the door was closed. "Last night, I said some things to you. You were probably asleep, so I'll try again: The thought of you leaving puts a hole in me. I know it's only been a day and a night, but... I can't really put it in words well. I just wish that you would stay." His voice took on a more square, businesslike tone, but it was a flimsy cover for what he was actually feeling. "Your man, Gavin? I would understand. You've only known me since yesterday, and today... Today is a shitfire I have to put out with my bare hands, and I'm not passing any judgement if you need to distance yourself from it, or from me."

Thana hadn't even had a chance to turn around as he spoke and her hand rested on the wood of the door as he rambled off what he had to say. Swallowing the lump in her throat she wondered just what he was trying to say exactly. He said he wanted her to stay, again. Yet he was calling Gavin her man and giving her an exit. She wasn't sure what to make of it. Was he just trying to be polite or was this way of showing her the door? "No, I heard you. It was why I stayed this morning instead of leaving before you got up," she admitted. She still hadn't turned around to face him yet. His more formal tone was making her question if he really did want her to stay.

Squaring her shoulders she lifted her chin and brought her defenses back up. It seemed she wasn't exactly off the clock yet. If he was going to continue to be the Captain right then, she might as well continue to be the Lieutenant Commander; though she would have rather been talking to him right then like they had been the night before. Yet maybe it was better this way. He was giving her an out, even if she didn't want one. Perhaps he was giving himself one as well. He hadn't bothered to ask how she felt about things. He was just assuming and that grated on her nerves.

Turning around she took a parade rest stance and stared him down. She looked every bit the professional right then except for one thing, her eyes. Those light blue orbs looked dejected. Clearing her throat a bit before she continued in the same professional voice he had addressed her in but there was a slight bit of scathing sarcasm to her voice. "I thought my man had told me he needed me to stay close. If that is not your desire anymore, just give the order and I will collect my things, Captain."

Why was it so hard to talk to her? Hard conversation seemed to roll last night without effort in the slightest. They clicked, period. Now, he couldn't communicate a basic feeling to her, to let her know that he didn't want to force her into any situation in which she was not comfortable. And this day so far was one of the most uncomfortable situations he had been in, bar none. "Thana, that is not what I mea..." Hold the phone. Did he hear her right? "Your man?" His expression altered considerably. It wasn't quite alarm, and it wasn't quite happiness. More like the surprised expression of a man who had just found out a recently deceased relative had left you a financial windfall. The day so far was a tragedy, but hearing her out loud stating that? Even if she was pissed off or disappointed, it snapped him out of his mood quite effectively.

"Did I stutter? Yes, my man," she said in a rather frank voice as she stood there. She hadn't thought that was in question; not after last night.

Ash stood to full height, a vision of proud determination "You're damned right I'm your man, Thana. And you're my woman, and I need the hell out of you." He bent his knees enough to drop what he was holding safely, and moved to take her in his arms. "If I've got anything to say about it, you're not going anywhere."

Holding out a hand like a cop about to stop traffic she stood her ground and eyed him. "Now that that is all cleared up do you care to explain to me just what in the hell made you think I would wish to distance myself from you?" she asked as she cocked her head to the side and rose a single brow in question.

Ash stopped, turning his head to the side in the same manner as Thana. He thought the reasons why were pretty obvious, but if she wanted to hear it from his mouth, he had no problem with that. "Alright." he cleared his throat, "We woke up to three deaths inside of our walls, Thana. One suicide, one eaten by the suicide, and one murder. I'm damn near a mess because I decided not to kill my best friend for committing the murder; instead I'm kicking him out into the greater world which will probably lead to his death anyway, just a lot less merciful than a bullet to the skull."

"Because what we have here is fragile as hell, and what the people of this town haven't figured out yet (but I think you understand) is that our safety in here is largely an illusion, and we're held together by the shared belief of community and a chain of command that's dependent upon setting and following the rules that I'm breaking right now."

"And let's get to the elephant in the room: A six-foot-six slab of Texas brisket that you used to date just sauntered his lightly charbroiled ass into my town and professed his undying love for you. Truth be told, it made me a little insecure. If anyone's going to do that after not seeing you for a long assed time, it's going to be me, except that I don't have any plans on letting you out of my sight any longer than I have to. So can you put your hand down so I can give you a fucking kiss, please?"

"Your lips can wait a few more minutes," Thana stated as sternly as a drill instructor about to rip into a piece of fresh meat during Hell Week, her hand not wavering in the slightest. She had a few things to say about the reasoning dump he had just laid on her and she knew if she let those lips of his anywhere near her, her mind would blank of anything else but a repeat of the night before. 'We are going to go over that absurd list of reasons why first." Taking a step around him she made her way out of the hall and into the living room. Her hands clasped behind her now but keeping her distance from him.

Meanwhile, Ash nodded, holding his position. He nodded his head, hopefully getting the nonverbal message across that he was listening. In an effort to support her in making this assumption, he gestured toward her, intoning, "Please." He followed Thana, but kept roughly the same distance as she set a moment ago. When they reached the main living room, he found a spot toward the center of the room and rooted himself, neither advancing to nor retreating from her movements.

"As far as the deaths and exile go, that is life. The deaths, while tragic, happened. They are over and done with. Nothing can be done to change it and there is no point wondering if there was something that could have been done to prevent it. What if's just cause more trouble. The exile was the right call and I wouldn't worry about James. The man's been surviving in these back woods longer than either of us have been drawing breath." Pacing around the room slightly she took a breath and continued. Her voice still professional and detached as ever. "Like you said, the safety is an illusion. Why I had no problem turning around and walking right back out that gate. As far as the rules go, you aren't breaking them. You are in charge here, you set the rules. You can change them. Simple as that. Death, fragility, rules. They were all there when I stepped through those gates, they just said hello this morning. Them being a reason for me to distance myself from you is bullshit. They would be excuses, rather weak ones, and personally I have no time for that."

Remaining quiet, Ash listened to what she had to say and here philosophy on Life After The Apocalypse. Not a comment nor throat clear to be had. While he agreed that James had a better than average likelihood at surviving out there, it did little to make him feel better about the decision to remove him from Newnan. Nonetheless, while he did not agree completely with what she had to say, there were a couple of points raised. He nodded again, continuing to listen to Thana as she spoke her mind. The sound of her voice was becoming rather hypnotic.

Shaking her head a bit she rested her hand on the mantle of the fire place and glanced down at the ground. Her tone taking a softer tone, speaking to him now like she did last night. As Thana, not as the Lieutenant Commander. "Now Gavin. Yes, he and I were together at one point. I am sure there were women before me, before the outbreak happened. Yes, I cared deeply for Gavin, very much so. So much I thought I loved him but he showed me the door. Do I still have feelings for him?" Looking up and towards the window she stopped for a minute. Did she still have feelings for him? "Yes. I still care for him, part of me always will. Gavin is a good man. Sweet, handsome, romantic. Really, the perfect guy in most girls eyes. But we haven't been together in years, since before the outbreak, and he was the one to end it. Him telling me he loves me, yes it threw me for a loop. I wasn't expecting that anymore than I was for him to show up here. Had I known he was here last night, things may very well be different."

She stopped there and let the words hang in the air before finally looking over towards Ash. "But, I didn't and today is a new day. You have nothing to be insecure about and you should have just asked instead of assuming I wanted to walk away, especially after what we shared last night," she said in a voice that cracked slightly but she held her composure. "For example, you said if anyone was going to show up and tell me they loved me after being away from me for a long time it was going to be you. Are you trying to say something there?" she asked rather bluntly before her bottom lip curled in and she bit it lightly.

"Thank you. I never assumed you wanted to, Thana. I just wanted you to know that if you chose to, I would understand. And last night was... yeah." He really didn't have words for it, but he tried anyway, "So much more than the physical part of it." He smiled, "But that was, well, heaven all by itself." His heart palpitated rapidly as he geared himself up to speak the words he knew he was about to say. He was nervous, truly nervous, and for a moment, he had forgotten about all of the bad that he had been a part of an hour ago. It was insane. A day. Less than a day. Horrible timing, drama unfolding left and right. But there it was, bright as the sun:

"Thana Martin, I am in love with you. Obvious, undeniably, madly in love with you. I can't help but be. I didn't ask for it, but it's there and its not going anywhere. You did this to me, and I am so grateful that you did. But if I have to wait another minute to kiss you, I might explode."

What the fuck was with today? If Thana had been the type to wear her heart on her sleeve, as her sister had been, she might have either fainted right then or screamed. Yet, Thana was Thana and she just stood there for a moment taking in what she had just heard. Her brow quirking slightly as her lip slipped from between her teeth. She seemed to nearly have the same response to Ash professing his love to her as she had with Gavin. Surprised, shocked, and oddly detached.

"I see," she said in a blank tone. "Well that is interesting because..." Her words trailing off and it wasn't clear if she was still in shock or dismissing what he had said as if he had just told her more snow was on the way. Clearing her throat she stepped over to Ash with her hands clasped behind her and tilted her head back ever so slightly so she could look into his eyes. Then she continued, "I feel exactly the same way," she added softly as she reached up and grabbed the front of his shirt. Pulling him closer and brushing her lips lightly against his. "This is where you kiss me soldier."

On this day, an occasion of murder and exile was interrupted by hope from an unlikely source. "Yes ma'am." he whispered, curling his hand around Thana's waist. He pulled her into him, closing the gap between their lips and partaking deeply of her in the waxing light of the young morning. His other hand found its way into the close curls of her hair, holding her steady as Ash lowered her into a shallow dip. He held her there, enjoying the warm firmness of her lips for long seconds before bringing them both upright.

There was a look of determination on Ash's face. It was similar to the look from earlier, except this time it was colored with dutiful optimism instead of rage and defeat. He knew what he had to do concerning the greater issues of the day beyond himself, but somehow, that sense of hope broke through. Because of this woman, Ash felt lie the optimal version of himself; the stalwart, professional Captain, full of the objective wisdom and mercy and will to pull everyone around him forward that made him a decent man in the first place. Thana was right, earlier. He did make the right call. Ash needed the love and strength of someone to remind him of who he was, and why he was the man in charge. There would always be things beyond his control that he would have to react to. But you can only move ahead in this world, else you perish. In a strange way, part of Ash wished he was leaving with James.

"I needed that, Thana. And I need you. When we are done with today, I intend on thanking you properly."

Alexander Polawski

Location: Heading south towards the smoke

The sounds of dripping water continued to fill the void left by humanities slow but brutal demise, as well as the unknown gurgling that kept Alexander moving forward. As he looked at the abandoned houses lined up, he wondered how long they could remain standing. They looked run-down, yes, but still a certain charm ran over them as the water dripped off. Then again, the area didn't look easily defendable; too much open space and not enough to build a quick defence out of. One would either have to demolish the houses for building material, or bring in the resources, both which took time, manpower and skill.

Not that he would be staying long, he was only after the source of the gurgling after all. It didn't take long for him to find it. The backyard of one of the houses revealed a partially concealed well, hidden beneath the now melting snow. Alexander, still holding his fire axe ready to strike if needed, made his way close enough to the well to see what was there. And lo and behold, it was a Walker. Frozen in the ice, only its head and upper jaw giving away its position. Alexander chuckled quietly as he took in the sight, not even feeling sorry for the frozen, rotten popsticle. He looked around him, though that Walker seemed to be alone.

He sighed, and walked once again southward towards the smoke. He had no reason to take out that Walker, it wouldn't do anyone who knew their shit any harm. Besides, the water was contaminated with whatever virus the Undead bore, so drinking from the well was stupid anyway. The thought reminded him of his lack of eating that morning, but he wasn't hungry enough to open his spam. But as he continued to head south, he did scoop up some snow into his palm and but it into his mouth. In time it would melt, and he wouldn't be that thirsty anymore.

That was to say, if he survived long enough for it to melt.

Jack Hudson

Location: Building 1 (Infirmary)

Jack forced a smile back at Niesha, but as she mentioned that she hadn't seen Froggy or Tatiana, he couldn't help but feel stressed. His pregnant wife, then, must have been hobbling around Newnan somewhere with a bleeding foot, trying to psychoanalyze James before he was exiled. The situation gave him plenty of cause to worry and he guessed that it showed on his face, as Niesha asked if something else had happened--something beyond the suicide-murder-murder that happened that day.

"Yeah, she got cut pretty bad this mornin'," Jack explained, rubbing the back of his head as he tried to figure out where Tatiana had gone. It didn't even occur to him to reassure to Niesha that it was a minor injury, he was that stressed for the safety of his wife and unborn child. When Froggy pushed open the door of the OR, pulling off a pair of bloody gloves, Jack was visibly sweating a bit. He only relaxed as the door opened more, showing Tatiana propped up on the bed. Muttering a thank you to whatever gods were out in the universe, Jack smiled wearily at his wife.

"Got it, Froggy," Jack replied, chuckling slightly as Tatiana held her hands up. "Should I get her a wheelchair or somethin'? I'd be kiddin' myself if I pretended she wouldn't wanna run all ovah Newnan settin' up sessions right now." His first instinct, of course, had been to just carry his wife wherever she needed to go and ensure that she had plenty of places to lie down. But he wasn't Captain America--he wouldn't be able to do that until Tatiana's stitches could be removed.

Jack moved into the OR and stood by his wife's side, just looking at her as she told Niesha what had happened. As Tatiana's eyes widened, he instinctively began to get concerned, until he realized it was just an idea coming to her and not a reason to panic. The idea of Niesha being the midwife wasn't half bad, and in these conditions, he'd welcome all the help they could get to make sure that Tatiana and the baby were safe.

It wasn't the ideal world to raise a child in--hell, it wasn't even a good one. But that didn't matter anymore. There was a little thing growing inside of Tatiana, a thing that they had created together, and he would defend it with his life. Walkers or no walkers. His father might have walked out on his mother, but that didn't mean Jack couldn't try his hardest to be the best father in the world.

"Nah, wanted to wait for you," Jack answered, grinning a bit sheepishly as he took Tatiana's hand in his. "Thought it'd be rude to eat without you."

Beatrice Decker

Location: Lagrange Street Sidewalk Near Building C

Beatrice reached James' house, standing outside and listening to see if she could hear anything. She figured that James gathering his last worldly possessions would be rather noisy, combined with the emotional people of Newnan crying in hysterics. Or at least, that was what she told herself, justifying standing on the sidewalk and staring at the house. Beatrice shifted her weight back and forth. It would be stupid to throw in her lot with James, but what safety did Newnan actually provide?

Sure, there were streets that had been shoveled and sidewalks that had been cleared. Walkers were rare inside of the walls, aside from days like these, when three died from carelessness and stupidity. The very first day Beatrice had been in Newnan, disaster had struck. There were fires and chaos, causing her to have a less than favorable outlook on the way things were handled in the community. But it still seemed to be safer inside of the walls than outside.

Beatrice glanced down at the compass and then slid it into her pocket. It was a silly sentiment to give it to James, stupid to give him something that wouldn't even help him. If she really wanted to do something for James, she'd improve his odds at survival by leaving with him. Yet she still couldn't decide whether it was safer inside the walls or outside.

Only time will tell.

Chloe Ridgeway

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Riley giving Amelia a kiss on the cheek didn't escape Chloe's attention and she gave her twin a bit of a knowing look. They'd definitely be discussing last night's events later on, as she felt obligated to chastise her sister and to be in the loop as it came to Riley's love life. Surprisingly, it was one of her favorite things to discuss with Riley whenever Riley visited her. Unlike other subjects, it didn't make Chloe feel incredibly guilty and want to curl up into a little ball until she melted away into nothingness. It was a safe subject, an easy one.

"Stranger things have happened," Chloe shrugged. "I was supposed to be a surgeon. Save lives and all that shit. Even went to Stanford. Top of my class. And then, it just all fell apart." She felt a bit vulnerable and exposed at those words, but she found it important to say all the same. Human actions couldn't be explained and they couldn't be predicted. There was no science that could perfectly describe humanity. Everyone is capable of everything. It was something that the Outbreak was the perfect example of--even Soccer Moms were dangerous now, able to kill at a moment's notice to survive.

Chloe nodded, listening to Amelia's quiet wish. There wasn't all too much that they could do for James. It wasn't like they could throw him a farewell party, shake his hand and congratulate him on a successful murder. There just wasn't much time to get things together, beyond finding little trinkets and things that might be helpful to give to him. "Why not do something for him, then?" Chloe suggested, shrugging slightly as she continued to eat her food. People did their farewells in different ways. Perhaps this was just how Amelia needed to express that emotion.

"I'm sure James'd appreciate it."

Ravi Chakrabarti

Location: Northern Parking Lot of Building 4 (Repair Shop) ---> Building E2 (Miss Sally's Apartment)

Ravi laughed a bit at Miss Sally's antics, as he walked down the streets of Newnan, arm in arm with an elderly lady wearing slippers, in search of tea and hobnobs. It was the type of scene that he didn't expect anymore, one so ridiculous and improbable that he wondered if perhaps he were dreaming. Just a day before, he had been in a cabin, trying to save a poor woman who had been raped so horribly that she succumbed to her injuries. He had been walking through the snow with Gavin, singing terrible songs and bickering with him as normal. By comparison, everything in Newnan felt too...strange, too...normal.

It was like a holiday from reality.

"It might be a few cups before I can adequately explain the hot mess that is Gavin Comfort," Ravi quipped, as he followed Miss Sally into her apartment and shut the door behind them. He wasn't quite sure where to start with the entire situation. Should he explain what he knew about Commander Martin, the woman that Gavin called Strawberry Wine? Should he start with Gavin's former life as a Texas Ranger? Should he begin with the woman that had effectively been murdered by inhabitants of Peachtree City?

It almost would've been simpler to start with in the beginning, there was a huge explosion...

"Before we came to Newnan, we were at a cabin just a few miles out from here," Ravi began, figuring that the beginning was always a good place to start. "I was upstairs, tending to the wounds of a woman who had been brutally raped. There...There wasn't much I could do for her beyond ease her suffering before she passed. And Gavin, he managed to get the name of the place those responsible had come from--Peachtree City." Ravi paused, looking to see if Miss Sally recognized the name.

"He was--and still fancies himself to be--a Texas Ranger. From what I can understand, that entitles him to be reckless and ridiculous, as well as operate as a bit of a vigilante if I am to be perfectly honest...He wants to avenge that poor woman and considers it his duty to do so," Ravi explained. "That's why he's being such a bloody arsehole and leaving Newnan...Stra-Commander Martin is another story entirely, one that I don't know all of the details of, but I do know most."

Riley Ridgeway

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall)

Riley looked over her shoulder at Chloe for a moment, blushing slightly as she rubbed the back of her neck slightly knowing that her sister probably wanted to get the dirty details of what happened last night even though they didn't do anything last night actually. Remembering all the times she visited Chloe back in prison before the outbreak on how her love life was, which really wasn't much she did have a serious relationship with a girl in LA for awhile. But she did screw that up by partying a bit to much, and word and pictures of her being at parties and kissing other women during those long tours she had done.

Riley also listened to Kristina as she spoke about her previous life about wanting to be an actress after high school, which did sound like she would have been passionate about. Then Chloe brought up her past which was pretty surprising since her sister didn't bring up wanting to become a surgeon, though it was mostly forced on by their parents. Riley continued to gently comfort Amelia as she ran a hand up and down her back looking at her with a concerned look. Amelia and James were friends as well she was friends with James looking over at Chloe at her suggestion about doing something for James before he did leave.

"That would be a good idea, anything would do I think I could help with that if you want Amelia." Riley said softly agreeing with the suggestion her sister gave, though she herself didn't have anything of sentimental value to give him. If she still had her guitar on her which was lost years ago, probably still in her LA apartment. "What are you going to be doing after breakfast anyway Chloe?" Riley asked, figuring that her sister would also want the details what happened last night as well. Riley looked at Kristina as she excused herself she gave her a nod as the girl got up to leave.

Raymond Mendoza

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall) -> Building B(1) (Franklin Wall Beni & Peaches' Apartment)

Raymond continued to eat his breakfast as well as looking over at the girls table as the four of them talked, when Tiffany finished eating Raymond finished as well looking over at her giving her a smile and nod. "Just let me put my plate away." Raymond said as he stood up grabbing his crutch setting all of his things onto his plate, and started to make his way over towards the kitchen setting his plates there for them to be cleaned. Raymond started back towards Tiffany as he gave her a nod, the people probably would like to hear it from who were actually there as well.

"We should probably start with Lyon and Beni along with the Franklin people first since they knew Sana the most." Raymond suggested, he gave the girls that were there a friendly nod and smile as he slowly made his way out of the Mess Hall it was a good suggestion going to them first since they were also from Franklin as well and thought that they would prefer to hear it from them as well. Feeling the cold winter air, he slowly started to make his way up the sidewalk making sure that he didn't slip on any of the ice that was on the sidewalk. Ray walked through the Franklin wall, he then slowly turned his way towards the Mens Housing entering the building Ray leaned up against the side of the wall and started to knock on Beni's door looking at Tiffany. "Are you still doing alright" Raymond asked.

Kristina Smith

Location: Building 2 (Mess Hall) -> On the Way to the Outer Wall

Kristina looked at Chloe as she mentioned about being a surgeon, she didn't look like she fit the role but gave Chloe a slight smile. "I was in high school, but I actually wanted to be an actress before everything started. My high school play was canceled just before things started to get really bad." Kristina said softly as she started to finish eating the rest of her breakfast, looking down at her neckless for a moment. It did belong to her sister, and she knew James and her sister were friends as well even though it wouldn't be something useful just something probably sentimental would help.

Kristina looked over at Amelia seeing her friend being quiet as well, it was hard on everyone she gently gave Amelia a gentle pat on her hand. "I should probably get to some work now." Kris said softly as she stood up looking at Raymond for a moment seeing him leaving the Mess Hall as well and returned the friendly smile and nod. Kristina opened the door as she slowly started to make her way over towards Agriculture figuring that the animals did need to be fed, and their stalls changed, also hoping to bump into James at some point before he did leave.

Meghna Kumar

Location: Building H (Vacant)

Once Meg had finished moving the bodies of Sana and Bryn out of the room and grabbing them one by one slowly out of the house, taking a few deep and heavy breathes as she wiped away some sweat on her forehead. Grumbling slightly to herself as she headed back into the house seeing the blood that was dragged across the floor. Meghna then grabbed the cleaning supplies putting the bleach down first then started to scrub it away with a wash cloth.

Meg then dipped the cloth in the bucket of soapy water getting the blood off of the rag, ringing it out as the bloody water dripped into the bucket. And started to scrub away at the carpet and floor Meg continued to do the process over and over again doing her best to try and make the house as clean and spotless as possible, letting out a sigh as she took a little break. Meg grabbed a nearby glass and filled it up with water.

She looked down at her bloodied clothes wiping a little bit more sweat away from her forehead looking up at the ceiling wishing that someone would swing by and help her out with the cleaning. Then she knew she would have to have help burying the bodies, that would take several more hours at least, and not to mention the ground being frozen due to the snow and it being muddy as well.

Tiffany Lyle

Building 2 (Mess Hall) -> Building B(1) (Franklin Wall Beni & Peaches' Apartment)

Tiffany waited for Ray to put his plate away, carefully watching him in case they had another repeat of him falling. Thankfully, he managed just fine. Ray suggested they go talk to Lyon and Beni and the other Franklin people first and that was a good idea. They knew Sana pretty well and should be made aware of her passing. "That's a good idea. We'll make our way there first and spread the word. If anything, we can find one or two of them and I guarantee they'll get the word spread just as quickly." She locked arms with Ray as she walked. Mostly due to the fact she cared for him (but she would be lying if she didn't feel a tiny bit guilty still from having him fall during the reception).

As they exited, Ray asked how she was feeling. If she were being honest, she was messed up inside. The world was different now and deaths were the norm now, but it never took the feeling away. Despite whatever feelings she had for the three that passed, they were still part of this community. "I'm upset, but I guess we deal with this so much that it's hard to show it. Normally, a death of someone close to you results in that sinking feeling in your stomach, crying, wanting to be alone and all that, but that's not how the world works anymore. We can grieve and feel sorry, but life moves on. It moves faster now too with the added threat of the walkers outside. It's like my body is telling me that I can grieve, but to do it quickly. I don't know. I'm also worried for James. He's going out alone, regardless if he'll be armed and prepared. It's going to be dangerous out there. I wish he didn't have to go." Tiffany knew the rules along with the others. Sad as it was, she figured Ash couldn't cave now, no matter how close he was to James. If he showed favoritism, that could put the morale of the town down. She couldn't imagine what he was going through.

So she stood there and waited outside the door, prepared to spread the news. To think the other night they were dancing, drinking, and having a good time. Life sure liked to play games.

Niesha

Location: Infirmary (building 1)

Jack’s words inspired fear and worry in Niesha, the thought that Tatiana was hurt, badly, and hadn’t made it to the infirmary, nearly had her heading back for the door, to make sure she hadn’t passed out somewhere along the way, before realising that surely Jack would have come upon her on his way over. She stopped, hesitating.

At the sound of the doors opening, Niesha looked, revealing Froggy, and the alright Tatiana. She nodded at his words, going to do what he had asked, making a mental note to also check how much they had left of the medication, in case she had to make some more later. "Sure" she started to say, but Tatiana's words stopped her short. It wasn’t that she was expecting a greeting, or anything like that, but .... midwife, her? There'd been pregnant women in the community... but she hadn't had to deal with the delivery, and it threw her off guard. ”Oh, um, congrats, and… “ her words trailed off, as she realised that maybe Tatiana wanted a woman there with her, and not a man who had become close to her, as close as family.

It would be awkward, in that case… So she could step up… and it would be good to know how to help deliver a baby, in case…

In case something happened to the only doctor they had that was worth a grain of salt. And besides, women had been having babies for years. How hard could it be, to help with it all? So she nodded and said ”I’d be happy to be your midwife” before she continued on to get the supplies for Tatiana to take home. It took her a moment or two to retrieve what Froggy wanted, in which time she forgot to check the supplies, instead just gathering them up, and returning to them.

”be careful, okay? Foot wounds are a bit difficult- it’s in a place we regularly use to walk. I once had someone come into the pharmacy with a gouge in between their toes. Took forever to heal, so stay off your foot for a few days at least.” She said, not even aware that she was going to say that, and it took her by surprise. A little awkward, she held out the supplies, ”um. If you need anymore, let me know. As long as we have the stuff to make it, should be alright”
