Name: Felix "Falcon" Fleischer
Appearance: Age: 30
Origin: Hylo
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 150 lbs
Backstory:The eldest son of Heine Fleischer, renown knight of the Hylo Empire, Felix was destined to be a mecha pilot from the moment he was born. Heine, a veteran of the Western War, served on the Barval Royal Guard, a small, elite force charged with protecting the royal family. It was quite common for war heroes to be offered a position on the Royal Guard, not only due to their skill, but also to promote patriotism in the country. As the son of a Royal Guard, Felix lacked nothing for the Royal Guards and their families were treated like nobility, regardless of their background.
Growing up, Felix had a busy childhood. His father expected Felix to follow in his footsteps, but also wanted him to be a worldly, well-learned young man and hired various tutors and trainers. Thus, his childhood was a blur of classes on philosophy, history, and politics, mixed with daily sessions of physical training. Under such a strict training regime, it was no surprise that he was accepted to Hylo's elite pilot academy at a young age of 14.
As the Great War of Orio had been in full swing for almost five years when Felix entered the academy, he found that all of the training was primarily focused combat. Due to mounting losses on the front lines, Felix graduated in three years, rather than the usual six year, passing with reservations. As one instructor, who was judging his final examination, wrote, "Felix is a brilliant young man with a knack for piloting, but his recklessness concerns me. Were this a true military exercise, his actions would've certainly led to his death and most likely the death of his squad. Usually, I would recommend against letting him pass as I have no doubt that, given two years more, he will be one of the finest pilots of our generation. However, considering the current circumstances, I cannot deny his passing, especially if my colleagues are of the same mind. Hopefully, time on the field will teach him what we cannot here. (Pass with reservation)"
Upon his graduation, Felix was sent to serve in the 6th Armored Division, which had taken massive losses in the Battle of Northbury. For the several years, Felix fought in the 8th Battalion, pushing back the Northern forces. While the horror of the battlefield reined in Felix's recklessness somewhat, his actions were still considered dangerous by his superiors and each promotion was fiercely debated. Still, after serving on the front lines for six years, Felix had been promoted to the position of Captain given leadership of Company H. Unsurprisingly, due to his leadership, his company was seen as a group of recklessly patriotic soldiers and were given the most dangerous front line missions.
On February 17, 2031, the 8th Battalion pushed into the Northern Frontier with the intent to establish a foothold. Unfortunately, the advancing soldiers were caught by surprise by a blizzard and separated. Company H found a small mountain cave and they quickly worked to expand it to create temporary shelter. The cave also became their defensive line as they were discovered by Northern scouts. Though outnumbered, the terrain of the mountain made it difficult for even the Northern forces to mount an effective assault, and they resorted to sieging the company.
After a few days of waiting, it was clear that the rest of the battalion had suffered a similar fate and were in no condition to rescue them. As supplies were running low, Felix made the decision to break through the encirclement. The Northern forces, expecting a surrender, were surprised the suicidal charge, though they were quick to recover. The soldiers of Company J sustained heavy losses as they fought their way through the Northern forces, but in the end, over nearly forty pilots broke through and escaped.
One year later, the Great War of Orio officially ended as the nations agreed to a ceasefire, though no one was happy with the result. Felix was recognized as a hero for his actions in the Northern Offensive and was offered a position on the Royal Guard. Felix refused, stating, "I am a soldier at heart. I cannot leave my men to fight while I retire." Queen Elizabet, paranoid after her husband's death, which she believed to be an assassination, suspected Felix of treason and ordered him to be arrested. One of the men who had fought in the Northern Offensive with Felix caught wind of this and suspecting that his commander had been framed, he told Felix what he had heard. Felix fled the empire for the Freelands, where he worked as a bounty hunter.
Tactical Preference & Skills:Felix is an skilled pilot, capable of precise maneuvers in his mech. In contrast to his precision in movement, there is nothing precise about his style of combat. Everything in his standard loadout is geared towards bringing as much firepower as possible to a battle and flooding the area with bullets. To mitigate his weapons' low effective range, Felix relies on his mech's stealth system to get into position.
Despite his behavior, Felix is well versed in military tactics, and will not blindly rush into unwinnable situations. He also understands the power of a well timed sabotage mission, and though he detests doing so, he engage in one if no other options are available. He is also a capable commander, having lead a company for nearly two years.
While Felix usually maintains multiple weapons to serve in multiple roles, a habit from his early days in the war when soldiers were scarce on the Northern front, he has been forced to leave most of them behind when he fled Hylo.
Quote:"The question is not whether we will die. That was answered the day the war began. The only question left is whether we die a legend or a coward."
