Drawn from all over the universe, millions have come to attend at the Asterisk, and you are one of those lucky enough to attend.
It doesn't matter if you were the son or daughter of a planetary governor, or a child from some hardly known backwater planet. What matters is your skill with magitek, and how you use it. All bets are on the line when one chooses to attend one of the many schools situated on the asteroid.
Inducted into one of these schools, your path to greatness begins upon the first step upon the Asterisk. While the universe shifts about in political turmoil, each Asterisk student has their chance to shine as a diamond in the rough, or fail trying. Still, no matter one's fate, the universe continues to keep a close eye on the events that unfold upon this space rock.
The actions of the few may affect the many.
In the year 30XX, a space-faring humanity discovered the wonders of magitek made possible by science.
By harnessing one's internal willpower through the use of a device, known as a Magitek Assistant Incantation Device, or MAID for short, an individual could preform incredible feats of power. From the simplest magic to the most complex, the impossible had become the possible. Impoverished colonies were able to generate drinking water out of thin air, and cities were built in days as the advantages of magitek eased workers' fatigue. With magitek, humanity found itself in a golden, prosperous age that seemed as if it would never end.
Or so they thought.
With the appearance of magitek came power; Power that certain individuals wanted. Whilst magitek advanced humanity further than ever, it also made it lazy. Rather than continue to use expensive paid workers, companies shifted to robotics and the cheaper cost of magitek, leading to an universe-wide economic crisis and civil unrest. Using this to their advantage, those individuals incited a galactic revolt, severing half of humanity from the rest.
What became of this revolt would be a lengthy war that would claim millions of lives on each side. However, before humanity could genocide itself into extinction in a costly rebellion, a peace treaty was established by both sides, so that the human race may continue on. With the current human government seceding half the galaxy to the revolutionaries, a thin line of planets were also given their freedom to be established as the "Neutral Rim" between both factions.
Likewise, within the Neutral Rim, both superpowers would later establish what would be called the "Asterisk."
Built upon a suspended asteroid, the Asterisk would serve as a way for each respective government to duel each other without the destructive power of a full-scale war. Young magitek users could learn how to better harness their powers, and earn an education at one of the many schools that resided on the large asteroid. It was a noble and spectacular cause to benefit humanity altogether, but no one would know of its dual purpose...
No one.
This roleplay will take advantage of a statistic and dice system, similar to a tabletop campaign. If either of these aren't for you, I sincerely apologize if you've lost interest from here on out. I have tried to the best of my ability to make the system balanced, however, if issues arise as the roleplay goes on, things may be subject to change. In any case, being roughly inspired by Exalted statistic dot system and Dungeons & Dragons attributes, each character will have the following attributes:
Strength
Dexterity
Constitution
Intellect
Wisdom
Charisma
Dexterity
Constitution
Intellect
Wisdom
Charisma
With 20 dots to spend, each section can have up to five points maximum. Likewise, each attribute must have a minimum of one dot per category. Depending on how you spend your points, each section will likely have a bonus or a debuff whenever you roll a d10, the die we will be using for this roleplay. One point is -2, two points is -1, three points is 0, four points is +1, and five points is +2. These modifiers will be tacked on the end of your roll to give you your result. Outside of combat, dice rolling will work as stated above.
In combat, the dice system will work just like it does in any tabletop. Each player (or NPC) will roll a d10+DEX bonus for initiative, and the order will go from highest to lowest. The first person declares their attack (which will use either Dexterity or Wisdom) vs. a character, and if it beats their DEX roll (given they opt to dodge or parry), it hits. If it is a confirmed hit, take their CONx2 and subtract your raw Strength (or Intellect) to calculate damage. Once their CONx2 hits 0, they are considered out of the fight and defeated. This will continue on to the next character until either side is victorious.
With any roleplay I run, I have a rule set must be followed. Failure to follow my (and RPG's) rules will lead to a warning or possible removal from the roleplay altogether at the GM's discretion. Likewise, I have posting guidelines too, although those marked with an asterisk are optional per player's discretion.
