@The Harbinger of FerocityHey hey hey Harbinger. I'm currently the new temp GM as the previous one has been MIA for some strange reason. I trust you'll make an interesting character so just lemme run down some basic info for character creation:
Low Fantasy, so while elves, orcs, dwarves, and other fantasy creatures exist, try not to get too crazy with it. Golems, half-dragons, part demons, etc, will either not exist or at the very least not exist as player characters.
Magic itself is rare to the point that it won't be a player skill. Magic is something that requires decades of research and study just to attune to, let alone to actually learn, practice, and ultimately master. The difference between a magical dilettante and Gandalf is a thin one separated mainly by experience and the exclusivity of the subject matter. There ain't exactly a school for these guys.
As far as a character's personal ability, feel free to be as martially inclined as you'd like, but know that even for a free RP I am going to enforce some semblance of realism to fighting. Your chances to survive against five opponents is very slim, especially if they're even moderately trained militia men if only because they aren't total fools and neither are you a super human warrior. Not every attack will kill, not even blow can be dodged, so it'll behoove you to not just fight well but fight smart, and more importantly have allies.
As for backgrounds it's mostly open with the focus of the RP taking place in the Kingdom of Elrad, which has just fallen into civil war due to an usurper taking the throne. Monsters are coming out of the woodwork, brigands are taking advantage of the chaos to raid and pillage, and the lords have raised their armies to fight off rivals and take over territory. There are other nations which may also take interest, though they haven't made any appearances yet.
