Simply put, this is a thread for people to ask and describe the context and stories behind the creation of their username. Is your username a remnant that you stuck with from another forum? Is it an inside joke or does it refer to some incident occurring online or in real life? Well, this is the place for you to put those questions, misconceptions and rumors to rest.

I'll start.

Bork Lazer refers to a Pokemon Leaf-Green Nuzlocke Playthrough by TeamFourStar where they captured a Snorlax after a long 1-hour battle after it nearly decimated all of their team. They decided to aptly name it Bork Lazer.

It is not referring to Brock Lesnar.

My current username is from the Monster Hunter series. Specifically, it's one of the titles bestowed upon Rathalos, the first flagship/mascot monster.

Okay so when I was a kid there was a TV show I watched a shitton called Chaotic. It was based on a trading card game and I learned you could play that shit online for free on the TV show's website, but you needed to sign up for an account to play. This was the very first time I needed to make a username, and I decided to base it off the username a character in the show used- Kazdan "Kaz" Kalinkas (A.K.A. KidChaor).

I swapped out Chaor for his rival from the 'good' faction, Maxxor, but I was too fuckin cool to name myself kid anything and went with lord like the edgy 10 year old that I was. Thus my first username and the one I stuck with for a long ass time, Maxxorlord. Overtime that got shortened down to just Maxx. If I could do that as a standalone, I would, but there's a certain motherfucker that stole it so I had to slap an adjective in front of it: in this case, Comrade, because I'm a dirty Communist but ironically only sometimes tho #Bernie2020

So ye, my name's not actually Max, it's just a childhood username that I've used for so long that it's my regular ID now

I totally lifted this name from a friend of mine. I always thought it was so great and clever and I was terrible at usernames, so when she found one she liked better and transferred her online identity to that one, I took this one. I like to think it's fitting, as despite some moderate effort, I curse a lot more than I need to xD I was also a band kid but that didn't really play into my choice

But now this is my name everywhere! Honestly I'd probably answer just as quickly to "Obscene" in real life as my real name, lol.

@BlueSky44 was writing a fanfiction series about the first class at Hogwarts. She asked for my ideas for names and I, being the very cheesy person I am, suggested Happy Hufflepuff, Darren Gryffindor, and Morose Slytherin for some characters. I didn't want to use my previous online handles - Wisteria22 and Theta Holmes - so I just went with Morose, since it wasn't taken, was easy to remember, and would allow me to mess with my bestie :P

The Harbinger of Ferocity

Member Seen 3 yrs ago

Although I have shared this before, the story of said origins for all members is quite fascinating. I believe my own method to be no different, in that the concept is adapted from my personal stance. I simply do not name things or assume names and the very prospect of it has always been difficult for me. Rather a portrayal, title, or mantle of affiliation and symbology is what I take up instead. Despite this, all of these aspects of identity are indeed relevant to myself, nothing without place or purpose, but they arise in place of actual names.

Thus the title of "The Harbinger of Ferocity" represents an element of my personification and was deciphered based upon a brief study of what one believes the greater cats to be. They are ferocious, devouring, predatory, and untamed. So as I delved deeper in these contents, I decided it best described one who, with them, came such a presence and demeanor. The alternative, used as the subtitle, is "Aspect of the Ferine", which embodied the alternative that would have been selected had the former not been found superior. In sum, it gives something that is notably red in tooth and claw, unrelenting and uncompromising, savage and primeval, yet stately and noble. I must admit, it was a joy to research the symbolism and imagery of these things too, particularly with how they deeply relate.

Yet none of them stay, any other place in which I go, I use yet another title or alias in similar application. The entire idea of naming things forever strange to me.

I was trying to come up with something unique for my Xbox Live gamertag and I went through a few until I came up with alteredtundra. Ever since then I've been using variants of it and adapting nicknames people give to me for my handles across social media. At this point, it's my online identity.

There's a book and a movie called Cloud Atlas and one of the stories is about a dystopian future where corporations become the ruling authority and people just consume and wind up fucking up the entire planet and there's cheap labor in the form of vat grown clones known as 'fabricants' who exist solely to act as servers and workers for twelve years. Anyway the main character is named Sonmi-451 so my username is named after a corporate drone who becomes a revolutionary.

But sometimes people assume it's from Bradbury so I let them think that anyway.

Opposition has a lot of meaning to me on multiple fronts. For one, I'm a fan of the word by itself. "Opposition" isn't a commonly used word, but when it is used it context, it implies a duality. There's you, and there's the opposition; the obstacle; the opponent. In a sense, the use of the word almost implies a loss of identity in your opposition. When the word "opposition" is used, you take away the name, the face, or the identity of your adversary, referring to it only as something that opposes you.

It reminds me a lot of Taoist philosophy, or at the very least what little I know of old Taoist philosophy. That which opposes you— your "opposition"— is just as integral a part of you as that which you are. Only when we pay attention to the duality, the fullness and the emptiness, of ourselves are we whole... If that makes any sense...

The name Opposition came to me in a very odd way. When I was very young, my older brother would play video games and I would just sit and watch. Occasionally, though, he'd let me play, and because of how much I grew to enjoy those moments I remember them vividly. Essentially, Opposition was the name of an extra profile he'd added on Star Wars Battlefront 2, and I used it when we played together. I never really knew what it meant back then, but I liked the sound of it.
That part's a lot less deep, but it still makes me smile to think about how deep the name's origin goes.

I've went under a great variety of usernames for various reasons. Kuro is one of the third longest-standing usernames I've had, though.

Was watching Railgun at the time and a spur-of-the-moment decision happened and I borrowed the Kuro part of Kuroko's name. Now it happens to be the name I use practically everywhere, with variations here and there should the name ever be already taken (as most short names are).

This seems interesting. Here's me.

Strange Rodent came about because I wanted a username nobody else would use anywhere, one that is mine alone. I'm of the opinion that "Strange" is one of the most descriptive words in the English language, seeing as it can have so many connotations when paired with other words, most of them almost arcane in nature. A sense of unknowing, potentially even dread, just kinda bubbles under it, yet it can evoke whimsical and child like imagery if used correctly.

It's also the first word in the title of my favourite album of all time, Strange Bird (Augie March), and an album that is certainly up there, Strange Tourist (Gareth Liddiard). Both of which were released by Australian musicians, something which I am also.

Rodent is just because I'm fairly sure that it's my favourite animal family. I've owned 6 pet rats in my life, so there's that. Plus, when put after "Strange", it's hard to picture what it means.

When I was wee my mom got me a Webkinz and I needed to set up an account to play all the games and stuff online so I went with ‘robie2’ since it was the name of one of my imaginary friends (there was robie 1 and robie 2) and the name stuck. Somewhere down the line though robie2 was taken so I just tacked rocket on there and just rolled with it from there on. And now, Badda bing badda boom, I’m here!

I feel that others have creative reasons for their usernames. I really like Fantasy settings in games/movies/books/etc. And contrary to popular belief, chic is not pronounced Chick, its Sheek, such as being elegantly and stylishly fashionable. I used to want to be a fashion designer (still kind of do, I have some rough sketches of my work still). But I pride myself on my fashion sense. Thus...FantasyChic

I loved the sound of Pretty Little Liars, but wanted something more "edgy" (sure Jan, sooooooo edgy!) and didn't want my username to be a complete ripoff from Sara Shephard... So I chose Dirty Pretty Lies. 😂
