"Welcome to Camp Mexico Beach" - Padre to each group that enters
β Background ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Along the panhandle of Florida is a town that was once a vacation haven for people. Not a large tourist town like Panama City Beach had once been but a smaller town where people went if they wanted more quiet than elsewhere along the coast line. A place for retirees and families to go without the crowds. Where most days, even if the place was in the middle of a perfect summer, you could walk along the beach and be left alone with plenty of space. That was before the outbreak and the dead started rising once again. That kind of changes shit.
At least for many places. Mexico Beach is very much the same as it was before the outbreak. Still a lot of people in their autumn years, still rather quiet. Anything but a retirement community or vacation spot anymore. It is now what one might think of as a military type outpost. Nearly everyone there is a survivor of the outbreak and has been there since the beginning. Former Military took the lead and got things in order post haste when the world started going to shit. Being filled with generations of people that grew up before the internet, cable, or even color TV had it's advantages and the place has seemed to thrive. Sure there are younger folk as well but here the mantle of experience is in charge.
β The Camp Itself ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Laid out below is a basic over look map of the town as it is now. The walls are twenty foot high and seven foot wide with a constant patrol built sand, stone and Roman-like concrete. There are only two gates, one at the east side and one at the west. Each gate is a set of two gates you must pass through to get into the man area itself. Out in the water is a patrol and nets designed to catch food and the walking dead that can wash up on shore. The town is very set in their ways and while open to new comers are not open to change. What they have their they have worked for and built. It works for them, has kept them alive and safe. Military Law rules and The General is in charge.

β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Thalia is a young woman who shows steady support to those she chooses to let close to her, or those to whom she pledges herself. She is dedicated to family and those who prove themselves worthy of her trust. It is not blind compliance, but she is loyal and will do what is needed of her. When pursuing an end, or just going for a walk, Thalia always looks for the best situation or plan of action. She needs to know where the exits are, what contingencies are available, and who to attack first in a scenario; generally aiming at an end beyond immediate action while keeping an eye on her surroundings. In most things, Thalia prizes her capacity to think and act with an assured sense of self-reliance. Her independent nature tends to keep her more comfortable operating alone or within a small group, though she recognizes the value of community. Thalia merely prefers to keep toward the fringe where possible.
Authority for its own sake makes little sense to her. Thalia will follow orders, but from people that she respects or had pledged to. Even then it is usually taken as a hard guideline, changeable as the situation changes. The same applies to the reciprocal of this; Thalia is not always comfortable taking on positions of final authority. Specific circumstances would have to be present for her to volunteer for leadership roles. She has no desire for power over others, preferring to contribute to a group as an individual pulling her weight, working within her skill set. Along a similar line, she is eager to learn whatever will make her stronger and more adaptable from people who might teach her. Sustained survivability is top priority.
Concerning new situations, or any to which she has reservations, Thalia can be overly cautious. Her tendency toward tactic has her observant, reserved and unrevealing, often reluctant to open up or speak more than is absolutely necessary. Even at her best, Thalia appears restrained, holding something potentially dangerous back; the human equivalent of a predator pacing back and forth inside of a cage. Thalia shows signs of becoming at least partly feral. When committing to speech or socialization, Thalia is straightforward to a fault, rarely softening conversational blows and often without internal mediation. She is direct, making no attempt to disguise unpleasantness. When committing to action, Thalia does so at a punishing pace, pushing herself to break limits. And when in conflict, she is savage and remorseless, trying to end things as efficiently as her means allow. Thalia is coldly barbaric in the application of violence.
A decent person, if very rough around the edges. She has a profound sense of family honor and its darker aspects. She also loves to eat, and has a lack of formal manners in that regard. Oddly enough, she is one of those blessed types with a freaky ideal metabolism. She can keep shoveling it in, the calories only serving to maintain her form without causing noticeable gain. Another interesting thing of note - Thalia has shown signs of budding pyromania. It remains to be seen whether it is an interest or an obsession, but so far she has not been foolish about it. The girl just likes fire.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Born in San Francisco to a single mother, Thalia Carmichael had no knowledge of her biological father until the age of ten. Her mother, a Miss Angelica Carmichael (maternal family name), left the father the day she discovered that she was pregnant. The history of the Gonzalez family was soaked in blood, and she had been planning to make a discreet exit from them anyway. Angelica wanted a safe, normal life for her daughter. As soon as little Thalia was old enough to travel, they moved to the elder Miss Carmichaelβs home city of Boston, MA.
Unbeknownst to all, Benicio Gonzalez (biological father, independent contractor, and firearms enthusiast) had taken a semi-retired lifestyle and joined the Priesthood. In his younger years, Benicio entered and graduated from a prominent Seminary school; circumstances led to his more combative lifestyle before taking his Vows. Addressed as Father Benicio Gonzalez, he still performed the occasional service related to his former life.
A car accident in Boston deprived Thalia of her mother. In her will, she revealed the identity of her biological father, Benicio Gonzalez, briefly explained their history and why she was kept from them. When he was notified of this, there was an understandable element of surprise involved. DNA tests confirmed their relation, and Thalia was released into his care. It was a little unusual, a priest with a daughter, but they got the permission of the Church and the State found no legal reason to keep them separated. Benicio took to calling her Angel, a pet name he used for her mother.
From the age of ten, Thalia (Angel) was raised as a Gonzalez, with all of the good and bad that came with the privilege. She idolized her older Prima, Alicia, wanting to be like her in many ways. This is probably why she took to the family business and college with as much gusto as she did. Her area of expertise differed, but there was a significant amount of overlap in their skill sets.
Adulting: College and the beginning of a legitimate career working for her TΓo & Prima as a Security Specialist (with opportunities for trouble every now and again) was her life plan, and it wasnβt bad. Over years of training with her family, she was even able to distill and quantify the unarmed fighting technique utilized by the elder Gonzalez brothers and their predecessors, breaking it down into a teachable discipline. Angel entered several local and regional boxing matches of questionable legality as they came up, honing her techniques until the competitors refused to step into a ring with her anymore unless the βMarquess of Queensberry Rulesβ were applied.
Your First Walker Encounter: A late evening at work turned into an early morning. Angel remembered waking up on a couch in her office just before the sun illuminated the Boston skyline. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and decided that then was as good as time as any for breakfast.
There was a bakery she liked a handful of blocks away from the office, so she took a quick jog up the mostly deserted street, the smell of fresh bread and pastry calling her onward. Before she made it to her breakfast spot, Angel noticed a trio of people stumbling up an intersecting avenue, strangely wearing stained hospital gowns and seemingly unaware of their surroundings, very likely coming from the nearby Medical Center.
She saw them try to attack a stray dog, and when a morning shift garbage collector stopped to see if they needed help, they clawed and bit him savagely. The man escaped the attack and got back on his vehicle. The last she saw of them, the Sanitation workers were driving in the direction of the hospital, and the three attackers were shambling after the garbage truck.
In hindsight, that was her first Walker encounter. The experience wasn't a total loss, though: Angel was able to pick up a box of creme doughnuts and a loaf of cranberry almond bread.
Those First Years: Miss Carmichael was assigned to her old stomping grounds in Boston as the siteβs Electronics Engineer and Close Combat Trainer when the Outbreak began. As the situation became royally screwed with zero clear endgame in sight, Angel decided to book it back for the central office in Chattanooga, TN, hopefully to meet up with her family and figure out what to do from there. The problem then became sneaking out of a major metropolitan area that the military could not hold onto with full resources and manpower. In the beginning, it took much longer than expected. Building by building, block by block, ever southward until she escaped the city proper.
When she finally reached Chattanooga, there was evidence of continued Post-Outbreak survival of some of her uncleβs people at the Home Office, though she could not tell how long before they had vacated. She did note that some of their signature working gear (personal machetes, leather vest, knives, motorcycles, etc.) were missing, but the place was not ransacked. Her satellite phone had died some time before, or she would have tried one of he few communication systems left to the world. Keeping hope alive, Thalia re-equipped with what she could find, and set out for Metro Atlanta. For various reasons, it seemed the most logical place they might try next, if they chose to brave the hordes diffusing from the higher population area. They might make a push to Texas or Mexico from there, meeting back up with whatever family might survive. It was worth a shot.
Some hard times later, a starving and desperate young lady was picked up by a group of medieval and Viking reenactors on horseback, wearing old-world armor. It was a little freaky at first for the urban and pragmatic Angel, but she stayed with them for some time in their little Castle Town in Fairburn, recovering and growing stronger. She learned many useful survival skills from the Northumbrian community, teaching some of her own in trade and helping them out with runs and defense. It was really a fine time for Angel; she dedicated herself to learning as much as she could as completely as possible, training almost constantly. It was like a bad Kung-Fu movie from the 1970's, where the protagonist walls up in a Shaolin Monastery for great lengths of time and emerges a better, stronger, and wiser person. But with Vikings. And Jousters. And grizzled, medieval(ish) survivalists. She made an interesting Half-Latina Shieldmaiden.
Then disease hit Fairburn hard. Angel made the decision to leave when it got really bad, as many did. She spent some time traveling by herself, mostly just surviving on her own and plotting her next move. The Gonzalez clan was large and reaching, but the center of their existence was in Monterrey, Mexico. She would try there next. It would be a hell of a journey.
More recently, the errant Miss Carmichael stumbled across the mother lode: an mostly intact electronics supply store. Inside, she found the tools and parts necessary to repair her satellite phone. Soon after, she was able get a solid charge into a couple of compatible batteries by rigging a charger and hot-wiring a car as a power source. It was unsuitable for transportation, but it made a passable makeshift generator. With food starting to run low (but a full battery charge), Thalia is attempting to reach out to anyone in her contacts list that might still have a working company phone. It is a long shot, to be certain. But worth it, and a more productive use of battery power than rocking a few levels of Tetris 2006.
Newnan: Angel had been holing up in a tank for the last part of the winter. Yes, a TANK. When you see a massive piece of custom motorized armor coming up the road at you in the middle of a cover-less clearing on level ground, you can either give the gunner a moving target or you can hold fast and find out what the hell is going on. As it was alone and headed in her direction, she took a risk and stuck out her thumb.
When the weather had begun to break, the time had come to set back out into the world. She had braced herself for the extremely high probability that her immediate family is dead, but felt obligated to find out. A chance meeting with a recent expatriate of Newnan, James Grady, and his small group answered the question as to the status of her friends and family; indeed dead after all her time searching. Another chance encounter with the Zed version of Astrid gave the Valkyrie final peace, and netted Thalia a familiar shield that was crafted by her good friend Bridgette (also dead).
Eden: The opportunity to destroy the people most responsible for the deaths of her people was made available, and so Thalia took part in a two-pronged attack that ultimately brought their enemies down. She lost her best friend in the attack, made other friends, and pledged her assistance to Thana until she got to Mexico Beach, Florida and reunited with her guy friend Ash, with whom she also has business. Namely, the details on Alicia, Caesar, Astrid, and Bridgette's passing. It has been a year now, but they're still kicking.
Searching: The goal was to help Thana get to where she was going, find who she was looking for. They were doing pretty good, too, until that incident with Mugsy and the bear trap. Then getting herself bit. Don't let anyone tell you that when someone saws a limb off that shock sets in and it doesn't hurt as much. It does. A lot. The only relief came from passing out when the jury-rigged power saw hit bone. She survived, and learned how to improvise a passable prosthetic. With a pointy end. Sadly, Thana never made it back from a supply run immediately after the amputation. They waited as long as they could, but eventually had to resume their trek to Mexico Beach.
Camp Mexico Beach: The Camp was not what Thalia was expecting. Military(ish) run, by Thana's family no less, with much of the trappings of civilization. She did not like the relatively larger grouping of people. She did not like the air conditioning. She did not like the constant scrutiny of their guards. Nor did she like the feeling of being trapped indoors. She liked the food, though. First day in with seafood, and a plate mounded with mashed potatoes acting as a deep bowl for clam chowder. Thalia was a Boston girl. he could handle chowder. Being reunited with Thana was an unexpected but very positive experience, though she was basically glued to Ash, preventing any meaningful conversations from taking place. Then she lost Beatrice; not to the elements or Zeds, but because she was unwilling to give Mexico Beach a chance. They shared a night with each other. It didn't hit her until later. This was what it felt like to be abandoned.
Camp Mexico Beach gave her a new, shiny prosthetic. And probably the main thing that kept her around: her brother Joaquin had taken up residence here. Moreover, she might get military training here. Thalia was already learning ballet from Tatiana, who she suspected was quietly a badass all along, and made friends (sort of) with the crazy guy Wayne. The beach party was also a nice touch, even if she couldn't appreciate it as much as everyone else, but she was obviously trying. Thalia made up her mind to say here and get stronger. The next day, she was assigned to clear out a basement in their Admin building (instead of soldiering or training, she noted), which she later found out was going to be used as a Communications room, now that they had people with her and Alexander's training in electronics.
"It's so good to see you, Navy. You look like shit." - through joyous tears, after finding her alive at CMB
Taking point and killing Adamm together was a hell of a bonding experience. Thana and Thalia seem to have an understanding, and have become good friends over the difficult months. It is not without tension from time to time as Thalia has a predisposition toward independent action, and has also made her intent to eventually part ways and see to her own quest well known. Thana has left an impression on her, however, and she can trust that Thalia will have her back. After the Eden situation was handled, Thalia promised to help her get her back to Mexico Beach, hopefully to find family and her Army Captain boyfriend before setting back on her original mission. When Thana went missing and was presumed dead, Thalia still held out slight hope that she might get her friend back. This was ultimately realized when she appeared back in Mexico Beach, though with scars and injuries that spoke of a massive ordeal. Her joy at seeing that Thana was alive was accented by heavy but well intended snark. Seeing that she and her boyfriend have finally reconnected, Thalia is backing off some, with the understanding that it's space and not abandonment. Thalia will still be there for her if need dictates.
Alexander Polawski
"Us cripples gotta stick together, right?" - Thalia, reassuring Alexander that she wasn't going anywhere.
These two didn't start off as friends. Thalia distrusted Alexander the moment she laid eyes on him, which pretty much sums up how she views everybody she just happens to meet out in the world at large. She sent him on a stupid errand to fetch coffee mugs from an abandoned house in exchange for a packet of MRE powdered cocoa mix, and derisively referred to him as "Mugs" or "Mugsy" afterward. Sometimes "Gramps". But he proved himself in a pitched battle later on, and remained a steadfast survival companion following, prompting an eventual change of heart. Seventeen or so months later, during which she lost an arm and he lost a leg, they're still looking out for each other. Alex and Thalia are on good terms, and it doesn't look to change soon. Even after time spent behind the relative safety of CMB's walls.
Emanuel "Manny" Newman
"If we're going to do this, then fucking do it! I don't gaht all day!" - Thalia, before Manny cut her hand off at the forearm with a juryrigged power saw
Manny was pulled out of a very bad place in Eden, a cult compound in Peachtree City. He was rescued by others in her newly formed group while Thalia herself was on a roll, shooting and stabbing as many people as she possibly could. The two of them didn't talk much, and like everyone else, there wasn't a whole lot of trust until he proved himself. In his case, it took a little longer than most. Emanuel has been a solid and responsible member of their group, and she will admit that. There are mixed feelings over the fact that he cut her arm off, however. Yes, it saved her life. Still, he cut her arm off, and she wasn't crazy about the guy to begin with. All the same, she can trust him, and has, for quite some time in "Apocalypse Years". To Thalia, that counts a lot more than pleasantries.
Tatiana Korvo
"That's some next-level shit... Can you teach me? Ballet, I mean." - finding out she had a child in the wilderness, and wanting to train with her, CMB Quarantine
Thalia's experience with Tatiana started with introduction, short discussions, and training with ballet in the CMB Quarantine. Full, oft exhaustive training in dance, to fill out her physicality since losing her hand. Thalia knows that she conceals strength behind her meeker persona. The two of them have gotten closer, owing to what appears to some as complementary shades of darkness but in reality is a sort of mutual respect. Neither are particularly ardent conversationalists, however.
Ashton Holloway
"Pareces el tipo de chico que mi prima hubiera follado por deporte." - becoming impatient with Ash.
Thalia isn't sure just yet whether she likes or hates Ash. A male analog to Thana in many ways, though his previous involvement with her cousin complicates her feelings about the man (this fact realized from a detail dropped, p.113). Hearing what he went through to get back with Thana has earned him Thalia's grudging respect. Maybe time and association will clarify her better intentions where he is concerned, if she ever spent any time or association thereabouts.
Nigel Cooper
"Yah, okay... Pool cues? Or yah want to fistfight in the pouring rain?" - Following Nigel's first offer to spar, or "duel", as he put it.
There hadn't really been much in the way of meaningful interaction between these two, up until the topic of sparring became an issue. And by "issue", Thalia might be more accurate in saying "stress relief". It felt good to hit someone without worrying about what came after, and it did her heart good to see that the time spent in repose hadn't dulled her ability to take a hit from a larger opponent, either. They remain regular sparring partners, not engaging in much conversation before cordially pummeling one another senseless.
Lisa Mason
"Well, don't I feel like the prettiest girl at the Hahvest Moon Ball?" - First words to her and others around the bar at the beach party.
Thalia has attempted conversation with Lisa twice. The first time was at the party, where it could be taken from context that she was rebuffed. No big, Thalia was new and kind of edgy. These things happen. The second time was in the Mess Hall after the Hunter trial. It started out okay but quickly went to Lisa making aggressive bedroom eyes at Guy, also at the table, prompting Thalia to make a highly transparent excuse to leave. The point was cemented that she did not mix with the "normals". Though it might have just been a result of timing or misunderstanding, she is convinced that Lisa hates her, and thusly remains standoffish. Even abrupt. How abrupt remains to be seen.
Amelia Payne
"Wait, who?" - owing to a lack of interaction of any kind.
It's difficult to get a feel for someone secondhand. Not that Thalia made any grand attempts to introduce herself to Amelia as she always seemed busy, joined at the hip with Riley (if that was her name; there wasn't any interaction there, either). Thalia is aware of Amelia's name and that's about it. Maybe they'll have meaningful interaction as events progress.
Nikola Warren
"Naht the tiara type, girly girl," - after Nikki suggested Thalia needed one, then disappeared into the crowd.
Interaction between Nikki and Thalia is minimal, but not nonexistent. Most of Thalia's opinion of her is formed from observations made at the beach party and her relationship with Thana. To Thalia's opinion, she seems okay enough. Trouble, but okay.
Hunter Monroe
"Bit. A Zed took a piece of my arm. Those two cut it off with a jury-rigged power saw a while north of here." - when Hunter asked her about "the arm".
Thalia's opinion of Hunter isn't exactly warm. The similarities of their experiences following the Outbreak couldn't be denied. Their choices as to how they handled those experiences was a different story. Though a little antisocial, Thalia understands the value of community. Even friends and allies. The phrase "there but for the grace of God go I" might have crossed her thoughts, almost as many times as the concept that one well-placed knife could end the uncertainty of his presence. Thalia hopes the man can turn things around, if only because of the ways in which they are alike.
"Get behind. I'll clear the way." - Combat Engineer maxim
β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Ash is a person of some duality. Those who have seen him at work will tell you that he is a man driven to mathematical precision in his thought and action. He is a skillful planner and deliberate executor of said plans. Ash is disciplined, intelligent, patient, and driven. Anyone who knew him before, outside of work will tell you a different story. They would describe him as a hard drinking, laid back, casual kind of guy who knows how to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life. Also, fire might be involved. His rural Virginian upbringing comes to the forefront on these occasions, as does a more pronounced accent.
Since the outbreak began, his casual side shows less and less frequently. He felt some responsibility for the deaths of his people over the last two years (starting with his novia), which caused him to withdraw from many personal interactions. The irony of this: he needs people in his life to balance out his psyche. Without people, Ash can become very dark. For a time, his mental stability was questionable. Ash took Newman's loss hard to begin with, but it filled him with a sense of purpose. He has a mission, for himself and the people he calls family. The continuing irony in his life is that, with next to nothing left and hope coming in an eyedropper, his mind is clearer and he is more alive than he has been in a long time. His sense of compassion, while still present in his psyche, has grown into an empathetic sense of responsibility. He still cares, still has mercy - but no longer allows it to affect the hard decisions.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Raised in a rural mountain town in Virginia, Ash was the youngest of three boys in a financially challenged household. Ends were met, and occasionally profit made, by the family tradition of the manufacture and distribution of illicit grain alcohol. Eventually, the family went legit after enough savings allowed them to purchase the necessary permits and a building. It was marketed as "Homestyle Appalachian Sippin' Whiskey". His childhood was somewhat rough, but manageable enough. Upon completing High School, he was accepted into the Virginia Military Institute, where he received a Bachelor's in Engineering, followed by Sapper training and stationing at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He had a keen mind and attention to detail that lent himself well to his new profession.
Adulting: Upon field assignment, Ash spent the next few years assigned to various places of interest internationally as a combat engineer (mostly in South America and the Middle East), all the while accumulating the credits necessary to achieve his Master's degree before being pulled back to the States for reasons unknown at the time. Ash was assigned to work with the Army Corps of Engineers, Conservation Dept. in Marietta, GA, working alongside various medical organizations and investigative agencies on a project involving disease containment, urban evacuation, and the setting up of caches and safe zones to help facilitate these endeavors.
Several unintended deaths later, he received a battlefield promotion from Lieutenant to Captain. He literally had to pull his Captain's Bars off of the corpse of the man he replaced, before putting a blade through his skull. Circumstances being what they were, the βbattleβ never technically ended, and his rank stuck.
Your First Walker Encounter: Ash's first encounter with a Walker took place in the streets of Atlanta. He was one of the officers in charge of constructing the various "safe zones" in the city limits, providing water service, barricades, etc. Unfortunately, his orders gave detail for containing a viral outbreak with possible rioting. Local police were expected to handle looting and handle most of the crowd control.
The Powers That Be either didn't know what was really going on, else they simply didn't want to tell the soldiers on the ground. Either way, they were ill-equipped to deal with the threat when it came. The safe zone he was presently in charge of was overrun from the inside, courtesy of the already infected let in for "treatment". His first experience with a Walker came when it, and several others, burst out of a prefab medical shelter and began to eat his people.
Realizing the problem was far worse than he was led to believe, Ash got as many of his people that he could over to the nearest established military installation - Dobbins ARB.
Those First Years: When Atlanta fell, most of the Dobbins staff scattered, taking away everything they could carry or fit into a vehicle. Ash debated staying, fortifying a few of the inner buildings, but eventually abandoned this idea as it was impractical for the small number of personnel remaining to fully secure the area. This was exacerbated by the situation: people broke off into their own factions, resulting in massive infighting to hold onto what buildings and provisions they could claim. Survival was more likely were he to leave.
The next year saw him slowly returning to his hometown to see to his familyβs safety. Heartbreak hit him when he found out that his mother was taken by Walkers and his long-term girlfriend had been missing since the outbreak, presumably run off or dead like so many others. He stuck around to see to friends and family. Fortifying his fatherβs distillery, he moved a good chunk of townsfolk in or around the complex.
A megahorde from Charlottesville shambled right up to their home unannounced and laid siege to the distillery. Some of the people inside thought it would be best to make a run for it, unwittingly letting the dead breach their defenses. Half of the people inside were killed in the ensuing battle, and what remained of his family was missing or dead.
Plan B: In the event that a scared, drunk asshole ruins the good thing they had going, the survivors were to hole up in the distilleryβs motor pool and form a convoy, led by Ashβs personal engineering project, βThe Hordebusterβ. (looks a little like this) The βBuster is a large, hoary ware carrier/industrial truck, older model with easily machinable parts that runs on diesel (and alcohol). It has been armored, fitted with a monstrous cow-catcher, and loaded with enough spare parts, drums of fuel/booze, and supplies to keep it going for a long while. Itβs even got a small sleeper cabin. Leading the way, the Hordebuster brought the remaining survivors, a good amount of supplies and a metric shit-ton of alcohol out of the chaos and onto the trucking roads of the Appalachians. (Heβs entertaining outfitting it for light offroad work.)
Trekking westward, he found a lot of (formerly) high populated areas amid otherwise wide stretches of grass and nothing. The former populations (now undead) stayed clustered near the cities, for the most part, making supply runs dangerous to the extreme, the next place to restock usually perilously far away. Ashβs string of crappy luck and loss of more life, coupled by the harsh winter soured him to the prospect of making a life out that way.
New Plan: Find a warm place with a very long growing season, preferably surrounded by deep water with a smaller original population. One of the smaller islands in the Florida Keys seemed ideal. A stop in Kentucky refilled their supplies of pure grain alcohol (the scamps), and the Virginia group barreled down through Tennessee. Somewhere near Murfreesboro, a supply run at a truck stop had Ash meeting up with fellow Dobbins ARB survivor Lt. Colonel Leann McCormick.
Convincing her that the northern route was slightly more suicidal than returning south, Leann and a particularly off-putting Doctor joined his group. They traveled back into Georgia, moving around I-285 at first to pick up military caches his Engineering teams set up before Atlanta fell to supply their new mission. On the way, their caravan grew as they found other survivors willing to help and accept their leadership.
Around the Atlanta South area, Leann (whom he still referred to as βColonelβ) approached Ash with a suggestion: Newnan, GA. Tactical and practical reasons were given as to why it would be a favorable location. After some discussion on the matter, Ash relented with the proviso that, if it fell through, they resume his plan for Florida.
Newnan: The sniping death of Leann McCormick led to Ash taking over as the leader of the Newnan settlement. Between the impossibly unavoidable and sporadic attacks of Eden, the tumultuous weather (including a Zombnado), and difficulties from within, this was not an easy task. He took the loss of life as his own responsibility. Eventually, another settlement (Franklin) merged with Newnan, bringing its own challenges. All the while, responsibility and death weighted heavily on Ash, who had entered into some psychological difficulties of his own.
Searching: As fate would have it, Newnan fell. Several factors contributed to it, and no one was at fault. Mother Nature took a hammer to their community, and almost everyone died because of it. The few survivors were scattered, but they had a fallback plan. Unfortunately, a megahorde, unpleasant strangers, mechanical issues and a host of other setbacks kept holding his small group up. They had deaths, they had reunions, they lost everything and are still trying to hold it together. A year passed in total, and his group is still confident, still driven at this time. They still had a goal, which was more than most had.
Camp Mexico Beach: The arrival to CMB was very structured and orderly, though assumptions of Thana's death marred the event for him. The eventual discovery that she was alive had more than revived Ash to something a little closer to what he was before the Outbreak, and though very new to this new home, Ash became content with Camp Mexico Beach. What few people he was able to save from Newnan were finally on stable footing. On both counts - Mission Accomplished. One of his goals became to prove himself to the community, starting at the bottom with a daunting piece of janitorial work.
"We had our trials, survived, and found each other. Now we get to be together." - Ash to Thana after reunited in CMB
A chance meeting at the gates of Newnan in a heavily modified ATV kicked things off. There was a shock that she had Zoie's face, but some quick Captain-ing had her back behind closed doors (his) before she uncovered her face again. They attended the wedding and reception together, parted only when he performed the ceremony. The two ditched the reception partway through and returned to his home, where their attraction for one another turned to the passionate.
The next day, things became difficult. James's murderous actions which led to his exile, Thana's ex arriving (and alive), and a flurry of emotions that Ash had difficulty expressing. Eventually, they both admitted feelings for each other that went beyond physical attraction. It didn't take very long for Ash to fall for her. He appointed Thana to the position that James vacated, Agriculture Lead, and decided to go on a run to scout a nearby location with her. They were sidetracked by the imprint of tank tracks in the snow, and cautiously followed.
During this time, Newnan fell. The ground ripped open and they were on either side of the chasm. Ash was tossed her dog tags, and promised to find her and return them after his duty to the survivors was fulfilled. Ever southward, as best he could, Ash traveled to Zebulon and then Mexico Beach. After being processed into Quarantine, it was impressed upon him that she was deceased, though ever actually told outright. Thinking that she was dead, Ash began to mourn. It wasn't until his entrance interview that he saw a huge truck, resembling his nonfunctioning Hordebuster, and Thana climb out of it. A very charged reunion ensued, and Ash has taken up residence with her in Officers' Quarters. He remains wholly devoted to her.
Tatiana Korvo
"I'm good. Wait, something I should know?" - Ash to Tatiana, before she decked him for holding his emotions in
Tati is like a little sister to Ash. Sometimes an annoying little sister. Also, she insisted that he be named the godfather of her and Jack's baby son, Jamie. It is safe to say that they are close. Considering the circumstances of their reuniting, Ash knows she went through an ordeal to keep her and her baby alive, the details of which are her business unless she feels like sharing. The Newnan Group, led by Ash, kept moving to try to find her when they got separated after Newnan fell. When they finally did, it ended in a firefight and heartfelt reunion, after he was treated for his injuries. When they arrived at Mexico Beach, she helped Ash work through a lot of his bottled up feelings, the start of which occurred with getting punched in the face with a rather ornate wedding ring. Far prior to this, Tatiana was a counselor for Newnan, under the tutelage of Dr. Victor Bonheur (Froggy). He suggested that she sharpen her psychological skills on Ash, who while fully functional, had some issues to work through. They rather grew on each other, and a sibling-ish relationship developed. (Surname formerly Korvo)
Amelia Vincenti Payne
"GAAH! Jesus FUCKING CHRIST, Amelia!" - Ash to Amelia, after she (accidentally) poked her finger in his bullet wound. (p.83)
Amelia tended to stay to the background of Newnan for the longest time, recognizable mostly as being Riley's significant other. After its destruction, Amelia joined up with the Hordebuster crew and they spent the next year and a half, almost, trekking in search of survivors and slowly making their way to Zebulon and Mexico Beach. During this time, she showed Ash that she was a capable survivor, team player, and not too shabby with a blunt implement. Now if she could only work on first aid more... Her time since was spent much as her time in the Hordebuster or back in Newnan - keeping to Riley to the exclusion of almost everything else. Ash understands, being in a similar situation recently. At least she seems relatively happy.
Guy
"GUY! Oh, you shifty son of a bitch! It's damn good to see ya, man!" - After reuniting at CMB
Quite possibly the last survivor of Ash's old hometown of Esmont, VA, Guy is the man whom Ash has known the longest. He used to work at the Holloway & Sons Distillery for Ash's family, though after the Outbreak he distinguished himself as being a hell of a survivor who wasn't afraid of hard work, and for being a fine shot with a long gun. He has been with Ash since almost the beginning, though the collapse of Newnan caused them to take different paths for a long while. Eventually, those paths converged at Camp Mexico Beach.
Alexander Polawski
"Any military in here?" - aloud in the showers, first day; it was began their first, brief exchange.
Ash recognizes that Alexander is an old soldier, long retired even before the world went to Hell. They haven't had many opportunities to in depth conversation, but those times they did were generally benign, good faith exchanges.
Nigel Cooper
"See you around, Nigel." - first day of duties in CMB, after a brief exchange.
Ash trusts Thana's instincts, and her opinion of the man seems positive enough. If nothing else, shared knowledge of engineering feats might lead to conversations about things such as torque, thresholds, azimuths, and other interesting scraps of the physical sciences. Ash finds Nigel a little odd, though nothing so serious as to warrant caution. If nothing else, another quiet-ish member of the fishing brigade wouldn't hurt things at all.
Thalia Carmichael
"When we have time, I'll tell you everything you want to know." - when Thalia asked about the details of her friends and family's deaths.
At initial meeting, Ash though there was something disquieting but familiar about her. When he learned who she was, this did not change. Their exchanges have been short, mostly her trying to get information about her people or making monosyllabic intonations. Ash does not hold much hope that they will ever be fast friends, but it does make him feel better knowing that her family's bloodline remains in the world.
Emanuel "Manny" Newman
"..." - lacking memorable discussion.
Though they came in on the same bus, spent time in Quarantine, and are now both citizens of CMB, they never seemed to cross paths enough to hold a solid conversation. Maybe this will change in the coming months.
Lisa Mason
"..." - having zero intereaction.
Ash as seen Lisa, knows her name by association, and could pull her out of a lineup, but otherwise can say nothing about the lady, positive or negative.
Hunter Monroe
"You're trying too hard." - upon having the concept of cleaning a bathroom explained to him by Monroe.
Ash's patience is tried by Hunter, though this is tempered by the knowledge that some of his behavior is tinged by trauma. This is not uncommon. But it is a liability to the community. After the incident with Tatiana he had attempted to view that situation that was Hunter with cautious objectivity, even support when he thought it might have been helpful. Ash's consideration remains with community over this individual, which he maintained during the trial. It is his hope that Hunter will emerge from psych with a more balanced outlook.

β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Amelia is a very gentle and friendly person. At least after one manages to break through the barriers she often builds around herself out of her shyness. She also wants to have friends, but whenever she meets someone, she would get too shy and embarassed to say anything most of the time, thus making it really hard to find friends. This doesn't dishearten her though, she had long since realized that those whom she does befriend despite this, are people whom she can really put her trust and friendship in.
After the fall of Newnan, Amelia started to change again. She who had just started to open up more towards others, closed off once again. Amelia started to become increasingly protective of her friends and those whom she trusts to the point she might have become slightly overprotective. In addition she started to display sure signs PTSD. She has difficulty sleeping, is constantly jumpy and often paranoid about their surroundings though she's adamant she's fine. She's not willing to trust strangers as easily anymore, she's always suspecting everything and anything of potential danger, never stopping to be careful of their surroundings.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Amelia was born in a loving family of 2. Her parents were middle class, but they made sure to provide their daughter with everything she had need of. She herself didnβt really have many things she wanted while she grew up, for even then she understood her parents were already trying the best they can, so she just was content with what they provided for her and the occasional wish she would make for Christmas.
When she was ten, her family had to move to Little Rock, because her parents found better jobs there. Her father was a gardener and her mother was a highschool teacher. Since then she grew up in Little Rock. It was hard at first as she had moved to an entirely different place, where all her hard created friendships were gone. With her shy mentality, she had troubles adjusting at first, but eventually managed to gather a small circle of friends so could trust.
When she entered highschool, Amelia quickly found out that even those few whom she trusted there, may not always have had best intentions. She was used into petty schemes and got burnt by it on multiple of occasions. Some people tried to bully her, while other just ignored her because she was a quiet girl. Finally there were those few with whom she actually forged friendships with. Those who got to know her, realized how good mannered and friendly person she actually was. Needless to say, rumors about her continued to be spread as a form of bullying, but she didnβt really pay attention to that, or at least tried to.
Adulting:
Your First Walker Encounter: Ameliaβs first encounter with a walker was the day she left her home for the first time after the outbreak began. She was trying to reach the highschool her mother worked at. She had already given up hope for finding her parents alive. After all they would have came back home if they were, but she still held some hope that maybe the school had isolated itself and there were surviving people there. Truth wasnβt such sadly. When she saw the building from distance she could already see the open wide front doors and the figures moving about the place.
She tried to approach as much as she can, but alerted a walker at her. He started moving quickly towards her and then others followed him. She had left without any weapon back then so she just ran, nearly tripped twice while attempting to do so. She did get away, by throwing a rock at a car she had noticed had a blinking light from earlier when she passed by it. It took away the attentions of the walkers for long enough that she managed to escape and get back home. Since that day, she at least kept her fatherβs baseball bat always with her.
Those First Years: Amelia was still in Small Rock when the outbreak started. She had decided to take a year before going to college, work as a waitress to gather up some money and make things easier on her parents. She had barely started her first week as a grown up working adult when the panic spread. When the first case of death from the outbreak happened in Little Rock, she ran straight to her house and locked the door. She hoped her family will get home right away, but that never happened as the panic spread and the city was swallowed by madness and death.
Her house was decently supplied with food and bottled water. Her parents never drank water from the sink. Thus she spend the first week after the outbreak, quietly staying in her home, alone. Slowly once by one the modern luxuries started to fail. At first she kept informed on the situation outside by watching to the news channels via headphones she plugged in the TV, but only a few days later the TV stopped receiving any signals. By that point the internet was out, eventually electricity stopped also. Like that Amelia found herself in her barely defended house at that point, alone with quickly dwindling supplies.
Maybe it was luck, but her house was never attacked by the walkers. She had seen them wander about the place, but she never really descended to the ground floor unless she was sure the area around was clear and she was extremely careful to not raise any noise and attract their attention. Still by the third week, she found herself nearly all out of supplies, no food and bottled water. Amelia also had gotten sick of staying alone in silence, she missed her family. Thus taking a back pack, she left her house one morning. She had to venture out and seek out what happened to everyone. Her house seemed to be in a relatively empty zone for there were barely any zombies around. She sneaked around a few houses, tested their doors if they were opened. She had some luck and managed to enter a few so she at least stocked up on canned food and bottled water. She then slowly made her way towards the local highschool where her mother worked. She didnβt even get close to it.
After another week, she couldnβt stay at her home anymore. She realized it wasnβt safe as some zombies had started moving around it more and more frequently. The very morning after that, she fileld her backpack with everything she can carry without getting overloaded and left her home.
She headed east towards Georgia, but her journey wasnβt as peaceful as the time spend quietly in her home. Her movement was slow because she was extremely careful. She would often hole up in well defendable houses in silence for days, waiting for a chance to run to pass. Even her meetings with other people were chaotic and scary most of the time. One group shot at her before she even could mutter a single sentence. She was lucky they got swarmed by nearby walkers while she managed to somehow escape. Another group outright captured her at one point. She managed to escape luckily when a fire spread out through their shelter when she threw herself shoulder first at a torch. Thatβs where she got her scar on the shoulder from.
After that event she spent a lot of time alone, trying to just survive in peace, but she could never spend too much time at one place. She tried to settle down at a settlement that appeared well protected enough on the border of Arkansas. In fact spend just over year and a half there, helping out by cleaning around, cooking and so on. It was a nice place, though it she left it the moment they were approached by a small group claiming unless they submit and give them all their food in 3 days a larger force would come and destroy them. She didnβt want to take chances so she left and continued her journey east.
Newnan: Newnan for Amelia was a keypoint in her life especially after the apocalypse. It was the first time she ever felt secure and comfortable anywhere after she lost everything in the initial outbreak. Having been parts of a few places in the past, she wasn't expecting it to become a real second home. She found friends and purpose in Newnan. The stability she never expected to find was there. She had a not too complex, but enjoyable enough job and most of the people were very good to be around with. Some were bad apples in a way, but she had tried to keep away from them. Not interracting meant no troubles.
In fact she even found love in Newnan. Riley, someone with whom she arrived there as part of another group that joined up. It was a relationship that took a while, but from friendship to closeness and love, it was an experience she didn't think she'd get in this world anymore. Sadly the realization of said love had to be put on the test as right after that the settlement was destroyed by the most dangerous and unpredictable of foes - mother nature. A veritable cataclysm of their very own turned everything that so many people had worked towards into naught, but rubble and death. She was lucky to escape alive.
Searching: The journey or rather the search was a stressful period for Amelia as it probably was with all those that she traveled with. All of htem having survived Newnan, they couldn't reunite with all the survivors. Tati was missing and they had to search for her. It was a long journey, they lost people, but eventually they reunited with her and her son. There were tackles with some bandit type folks at that point and a storm... tornado even. Hell they had even lost the horde buster, their trusted mobile home. The constant life on the road without any security only increased the stressed she felt on top of her lingering trauma from Newnan, that was luckily not too serious, but never the less still there. In any case, she followed Ash and ash pointed them to Camp Mexico Beach.
Camp Mexico Beach: The group had successfully managed to get to Camp Mexico Beach. Some rocky mentally strained start aside at the initial Quarantine, it appears to be a stable place. A possible new home for them to live at. Some left others stayed behind. Still she and Riley could lead a stable life here, baring any unforseen cataclysmic events due the fact it's a coast settlement. Still they have a nice place to live in, stable food and even electricity within reason!
"I didn't mean for that to happen alright!?..." - From Apologies on Medicine malpractices by Amelia Payne
The arrival at CMB was something that altered their lives in a very monumental manner and Amelia will be forever grateful for Ashton for seeing them through ti all. Despite everything, he was their leader when it mattered and she does like him and considers him a trusted friend, even if he wouldn't allow her near him for First Aid anytime soon more likely that not, and she already apologized! Still with a new place to live at and whole new set of daily challenges, maintain relationships is a good deal harder than it was when they all basically lived together in a cramped vehicle. Still Amelia does try to meet him as often enough, to chat and just keep in touch. Of course they all have their new lives to think of and budding families to look after, but still, friendships are important... And she trained in First Aid a lot just to reassure him!
Riley Ridgeway
"Keep it quiet will you!" -Ash trying to make Riley and Amelia keeping it quiet at night
Amelia and Riley met shortly before going to Newnan. They happened upon the same group of survivors and went from there, going through an attack on the shelter and eventually moving with the rest to Newnan. They started off as friends, Amelia having slightly more trouble to be open as usual, but they quietly formed a friendship non the less and stuff went uphill from there. By the time Tati and Jack were marrying, Amelia had fallen head over heels for the singer and after some alcohol boosted confidence on the night of the weddings she confessed and they finally got to be a couple. Short lived happiness given what followed on the next morning, but luck was on their side as eventually they reunitted shortly after escaping the ruins.
From there it was them living and traveling along the rest of the survivors in search for the missing people and heading south towards the supposed save haven there. In those darkest days Riley was the main reason why Amelia could bring herself to stay focused and struggle to survive and make it through every day as much better as possible. Having her loved one close to her, gave Amelia the needed willpower to struggle tooth and nail so they all could make it through. Now with them having arrived at Camp Mexico Beach, now they've got a home of their own. Amelia holds mixed feelings with moderate hopes for this to last. The track record of the past isn't too great, but even if it provides a few years of peace for her to enjoy with Riley it would be worth it.
Nikola Rose Warren
"So... we hunting that rat or not?" - Amelia inquiring with Nikki about a certain cartoonishly pesky animal.
Nikki and Amelia turned out to be getting along impressively well. Amelia for a shy and generally introverted young woman, does enjoy being around the energy bunny that is Nikki( as she had heard somebody at camp comparing her to). Nikki's rather outgoing and fun and Amelia really enjoys being friends with her. She might even get into mischief with Nikki if the Energy Bunny decides to drag her along for the ride. Amelia doesn't have many close friends, but the ones she has, she treasures a lot. Working with Nikki everyday and enjoying it? That's proof of friendship right there and it's enough for Amelia.
Jack Hudson
"Need any help? Ehh... okey, tell me if you do." - Amelia post Medicine Malpractices asking if Jack and Tati need help with the baby
Amelia really likes Jack as a friend. He's nice and quite kind all things considered. Ever since he met up again with Tati and Jamie he turned for the better and is now a lot more happier. She likes him like this, though she keeps her distance from Jamie. Never the less Amelia does laugh to all his dad jokes cause she actually finds them funny most of the time and she does try to help him with all the chores so he could spend more time with Jamie.
Tatiana Newnan
"She has changed..." - Amelia whispering ot herself after reuniting with Tati
Amelia frankly doesn't know what to think and do about Tatiana. On one end having yet another comrade from Newnan is a great relief to her and on the other Tati's very closed off to her. Amelia mostly understands why though, she herself took a little while to get used to having the other woman around after everything that went down. Still she tries to help with anything that she could to the other woman and hopes they can be friends one day. Friends are a rare commodity after all.
Nigel Cooper
"So how do you suppose a roman turtle formation should work in D&D?" - Amelia chatting up Nigel upon the topic of Historial facts in D&D
A rather unlikely budding friendship, Amelia found herself talking with Nigel a lot more often after the D&D sessions began. Him being somebody new to the hobby and actually knowing a weirdly huge amount about Roman culture and history. She actually found it all very fascinating and her inner creative writer and dreamer, took to listenign to his stories and facts about the ancient culture of his choice. Everything she says is usually very fascinating and inspirational, giving ample possibilities to put into a curious story narrative. Even if he tends to focus too much in the real history at times.
Lisa Mason
"She is nice enough, I suppose... if a bit weird at times." - Amelia to Riley when talking about Lisa
Amliea doesn't have a overly grand relationship with Lisa by any stretch. They occasional talk and cross paths and they have gotten to know a bit better because of Nikki. Still they do not have quite as many common points to grow into close friends. She wouldn't mind spending time with her though, if only to get to watch the overly ellaborate traps and pranks that Lisa can put into action when she feels like it.
Thana Martin
"So she's Ash's love." - Amelia to Riley on the new people they met in CMB.
There's not much of a relationship to talk between these two. Amelia's hasn't really had reasons to talk with Thana and vice versa. She knows her and they would've at least talked and introduced because of Ashton, but other than that, it's just on polite greeting in passing really.
Hunter Monroe
"Somebody more socially awkward than me... wow." - Amelia's description of Hunter's social tendencies and graces.
Not much to tell, Amelia's obvious bias against dogs struck from the first moment they've joined up in the same vehicle to arrive in CMB and the time in quarantine didn't help any with his way of acting and constantly putting his foot into his mouth. The fiascos after they left quarantine didn't help either, but at least she doesn't want him dead, just properly leashed and as far away as possible.
Emanuel Newman
"Hello." - Amelia greeting Manny on the street.
As with quite a few from the quarantine group, Amelia's only on passing acquaintance relationship with Manny. They've talked a few times, but things haven't progressed much beyond that..
Thalia Carmichael
"She's... loud?" - on what Amelia remembers most of Thalia.
Amelia has not really interractedm uch with Thalia over their time in quarantine or afterwards. She knows her name an face of course, but the most notable thign she can really recall are the time that the woman strangely pulled attention to herself in very loud ways without looking like she meant to.
"Things will get better... after all eventually they simply wont be able to get worse. " - That even in the darkest moments we shouldn't lose hope.
β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Lisa's a very direct person who doesn't really like beating around the bush. She likes to tell people what's really on her mind, which admittedly often causes her more problems than benefits overall. Despite that small fact, she's always an optimist, preferring to look upon life in the glass half full kind of way. There's always something good about everything, even if it is the simple fact that things can go downhill no further. Her interaction with people usually goes between smooth because she doesn't really lie to them to stormy for the exact same reason and also because she can be one sarcastic bitch at times and she's not even subtle about it.
Still there are parts of her that she doesn't show to people as much, such as the fact that she does enjoy pain a little bit too much. While not gone far enough to willingly cause herself great injuries and pain, she's not really averse to suffering some within reason. She sometimes causes herself mild pain as a habbit and hobby though.
After the end of the fucking world came, it brought some changes to her as she survived in the new harsh reality. She became ever more careful in her planning and actions, tending to be on the side of precaution than anything else. She likes her plans and likes her safety to be ensured, usually by something that can blow someone's head off. On that note she also is not averse to killing people anymore. She's ready to kill anyone who proved to want her dead and no amount of begging or pleas can convince her otherwise.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Lis was born in Colorado, at a town called Lake City. Her parents were firmly middle class and she had a rather average childhood and even teenage years. She didn't excel at anything special nor was she lacking in anything. She as pretty enough and smart enough, but didn't seem like she had any special talents. Some of her friends had become programmers or engineers or doctors, but she just didn't seem to click well with any of those dream occupations of theirs. Eventually she dropped out of highschool and settled to eventually getting a GED instead. While it wasn't the greatest decision according to most people she knew, she had decided it was an apt course, all thigns considering.
Adulting: With the lack of idea on where she wanted her life to go, she decided to somewhat follow in her mother's footsteps. Her mother was a housekeeper and it didn't really take long for Lisa to join into the business and first start to help out, then properly get into the business. In the end she had went a step further even and became a live in housekeeper or more or less a maid really. She did everything a maid would be doing. She was cleaning the house, washing things and so many other lovely tasks that repeated every day. It wasn't the brightest job, but she enjoyed it well enough. The uniform was nice enough and the fact she was provided with actual living space was great cause she didn't have to pay rent! All in all it was a sweet job that she didn't want to lose, especially when the market was overly saturated with foreigners.
Still she did her job well enough and kept it. She even got to learn a lot of curious things in the years she spend as a maid and before that when she was helping out her mother. She learned how to use chemicals for cleaning, what to not mix and what to mix. She had also learned curious lifehacks or the so called folk remedies that could serve for everything from how to clean bad stains to how to fix certain maladies. All things learned by common people during the ages with experience and were now part of her repertoire too. At the end, despite not living a glorious highlife filled with glamour and money, she was rather content with it. She had a stable job, a nice home to live in and could enjoy her freetime as she saw fit. It was an ordinary life, but a good one. She didn't really need to or even had to ask for more.
Your First Walker Encounter: Lisa's first walker encounter happened at her workplace where she was a live in maid. The owner of the place she lived in, her employer had returned injured at the outbreak. Since everything back then was sort of a chaotic mad nightmare and no one quite knew what was happening aside people killing other people and the dead were rising or so the story had went. Since her employer was injured, Lisa as one of the few who had remained at the estate, had taken to helping them out. She had went to pick up the first aid kit and returned to clear and bandage their wounds.
The wounds she had seen on them were incredibly nasty ones. They were human bites and by the way the man spoke, he was bitten nearly to the bone by some crazy person outside with other crazies like that also wandering. Lisa herself was taking it as a miracle that the employer had returned home with such a wound, but she was told that the hospital looked like a complete mess also. Apparently the entire town was going to hell. The man was turning delirious and feverish so she had helped him to bed and left him to rest. Come few hours later when she heard some crashing noises and she went to see what had happened, she saw her employer shuffling towards her in really unsettling manner with gaping mouth. He didn't look normal anymore and attacked her. The man had turned into a walker after dying from the infection. She struggled free, just before he can bite her and then sturck him with the closest thing at hand... which happened to be a table decoration nearby that was really pointy on one end. She had managed to pierce right through the right eye and bury it deep into his head. After that he stopped moving...
Those First Years: After the outbreak, Lisa spend a lot of time in the place she lived at since it was a well stocked mansion and had good set of walls also. She and some of the other people who had happened to be there at the outbreak spend a few weeks, a few stressful weeks while they slowly ran out of supplies and had to decide on how to progress from now on. Eventually they split into a few pairs and went out into the dangerous world in hope that they can scavenge some supplies and survive.
Her partner died pretty much right away, after they got surprised by a walker in a house. Lisa did survive by escaping though. She knew her partner was already dead, they just didn't know it yet. The walker had bitten them and also stumbled them down to the ground when a few more showed up, following the sound. From there she was really careful where she scavenge, when and how. She made sure to always secure herself a way out and have a plan to escape should things turn sideway.
From there on she started traveling, never standing at one place for long. She traveled a lot and settling at a few different settlements, but never stayed there for long. Mostly because many of those had absurd requirements or things there simply were going worse as time progressed. In this wrecked world, supplies were limited to only so much that you can scavange, especially when it came down to food. That said she had become adapt at cleaning water, but food was another matter. There were many supplies located at malls or warehouses, but to get there you had to usually enter parts of cities that more ofthen than not were filled with the dead. Thus she generally avoided delving too deep into big cities.
On a few cases she also traveled in a group for safety, but at the end of the day, Lisa knew that she can only truly trust herself in those cases. Especially case after case when one of the people she was traveling with tries to kill the others and steal their things, her included. Or other cases when there were some people who acted like bandits. Seems like with the fall of society, humans reverted back to their primal ways. Things didn't always turn out good for her though, sometimes she was on the losing end, surviving by sheer miracle. All in all, she decided to move south east, and then head up the coast. She surmised that if there were going to survivor settlements, it was going to be near water and who knew, maybe there could be places where people lived on ships instead, being save from walker surprises at night.
To her surprise she had ended up meeting a hunting party from CMB last year sometime between Holloween and Thanksgiving. As things went from there, she joined them in returning to the Camp and in her mind proved her idea that there would be indeed settlements near water.
Camp Mexico Beach: She went through the initial evals and was given a rather cushy job(for her at least) in the Supply dept. and more precisely doing cleaning for the hospital and lab. She got the job mainly because of her prior work experience in the field of cleaning so to speak. Still to her surprise the more time she spend in those areas, she actually got more interested in it and especially pharmaceuticals. She actually seemed to have a knack for it and after a few months she began studying in that area of expertise. She spend quite a bit of her free time studying from books and the rest from Mary whenever it was possible. She actually hit it off with Mary quite well from the very start. In any case, after putting in the effort and the time, after about half an year she transfered out from the basic cleaning duty in Supply and joined Parmaceutical, helping out Mary with the job. Taking stock of the medicine, crafting drugs and salves, how to apply different medicines and so on. It tied quite nicely with her previous occupation in a way and she did quite enjoy the work process and company.
"Pff please, as if she's in the need of any encouragement." - Commenting to Ada about Nikki's readiness to steal booze
Lisa's relationship with Nikki is actually quite great. She enjoys all the time she spends with the younger girl no matter what they are doing. Be it simply sitting somewhere exchanging information about interesting stuff they've seen or heard during the day, observing and joking about people or simply chilling on the beach chatting while doing something calming like playing in the sand or the like. The younger girl is someone Lisa likes a lot. Sometimes Lisa even ponders if this is what it would have been if she had a younger sibling. Lately she has taken to compare Nikki to the bunny that's the mascot of that battery manufacturer. It's oddly fitting.
Emanuel Newman
"Hey,Manny!!!" - Enthusiastic greeting.
Now this was a friendship that probably shouldn't have been much of a surprise, but Lisa and Manny did click. Since their first day at work, they got along rather well and even when Lisa was moved over to the higher floors to start up a proper apprneticeship in Pharmaceuticals, she'd still do her old work whenever time allowed it or just more people were needed and with their lunch break conciding more or less, they got a lot of time to chat in those too. So without any surprise there a friendship was formed! Then Manny seemed to be getting into boats at some point and then boat puns came about. A lot of boat puns.
Thana Martin
"You know, maybe I should ask her collaboration on a stabbing manual." - Lisa thinking to herself.
Thana and Lisa actually get along well enough. Met and interracted while she was helping Thana with her meds for her recuperation from her injuries. Lisa has to admit she might have been a tad too interested in Thana's state and the degrees of her pain and that could have been the reason for their slight tension between them. Still afterwards they got along well enough in the occasional times they've had any interractions.
Ashton Holloway
"Ahhh reconnection of old flames. They make cute couple!." - Lisa describing Ash and Thana.
She hasn't had much reasons to chat up Ash besides curiosity and greetings here and there. Still given he's Thana's boytoy... or more like proper boyfriend, he looks good enough sort and he had managed to keep his own group of survivors together and going through some serious shit and that in Lisa's book is worthy enough of respect.
Thalia Carmichael
"Holy hell, I like her." - Her overwhelmingly positive reaction upon her first meetign with Thalia.
Lisa fucking likes THalia and her general attitude. It just clicked with her from the very first meeting and while Thalia's attitude is very standoffish and maybe it was something Lisa said, she's not sure, but she does like the woman. Her reactions are fun and she is planning on going out of her way so they can interract more for whatever outcomes comes out of it, she does hope they buddy up eventually. She'd enjoy having Thalia as a friend.
Nigel Cooper
"Ohh yeah Centurion guy" - How Lisa recalls Nigel
Nothing much to be said on their relationship if one even exists really. They've barely spoken to each other, but nothing really hostile is happening between them either. She finds him as a curious anomaly more than anything and would probably enjoy to get to know him eventually.
Hunter Monroe
"He's magnificen, I can watch his antics for a whole day and not get bored." - Lisa's opinion on Hunter and his almost drama worthy experiences so far.
Lisa doesn't really have much interractions directly with hunter. She knows him of course, at this point there's no person in the camp who doesn't. Still in difference from most people in camp, she actually likes him in her own and weird way. She loves all things human and stupid and his antics and the negative consequences that followed are like a playbook of greek tragedies. Everything he has done so far usually ends in disaster. Still she's gotten to chat with him some at Medical when they cross paths briefly after his... forced temporary confinmed and public service work, since his dog now lives with her and Nikki and she knows he'd appreciate some updates now and then.
Amelia Payne
"Cute couple number two~ in fact might be more adorable than Thana and Ash" - Lisa describing Riley and Amelia.
Amelia and Riley are the second new couple that arrived with the lastest batch of people. Both were rather adorable and together they made for a very nice on the eye pairing that gives in Lisa's eyes this innocent puppy air about them. Still she knows they've seen some serious shit happening before they arrived. Given everything she loosely knew of how they got to CMB and from where they started. Now with Amelia especially she does like hte girl, she's a bit too shy and quiet, but once you get to know her, Amelia seems to loosen up somewhat. They've chatted here and there and are on good terms overall. What makes her most curious however is Amelia's really curious talent of calculating some rather exotic problems and equations silently in her mind. THAT she could really put to use with her traps and not everybody knew it, but Amelia has a really mean swing on her if you give her a proper weapon to use.
"You're lucky I only have one foot, or I'd be kicking your ass right now." - Alexander reading from a cup found while held up in Quincy.
β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Alexander is a classic example of a Vietnam war veteran who's seen some serious shit. His personality is in the middle of a tug-of-war, two sides vying for control over him; the traumatic past that haunts him to this day, and the human side of him that smiles and still finds some joy in life. The first has made him appear an introvert, enclosed and anti-social as he refrains from talking about his past openly. Alexander can quickly get uncomfortable in social situations, either closing up or even blacking out to one of his more frequent flash-backs.
The other part of Alexander, however, still shows that he too was once a man with a life. While quick to clamp up, in situations he's comfortable in he will smile and joke around, talking about parts of his life he finds no shame in retelling others. Especially after meeting the Eden group he's opened up to the small team of survivors, while once again finding a purpose in life which he before hadn't. He's a hardened veteran with many issues, a missing leg and a big heart.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Alexander was born into a Polish-American family at the very beginning of the 'golden years' of the 1950's, though his childhood was nowhere near as gilded. His mother, Maria Polawski, died not longer after his birth. This left the infant boy in the care of only his father, William Mathias Polawski, whom Alexander would have a shaky relationship with for the rest of his life. While his father never blamed Alexander for the death of his wife, there was always something disturbing there.
Growing up without a mother at home meant that Alexander spent much of the time alone or with his less than ideal friends, according to his father of course. What time the two Polawskis spent together was a mix between open hostility and the usual father-son relationship of the 50's/60's. The only time they rarely said a bad word to one another was when out fishing on Lake Michigan. That was how Maria would have wanted them to be. Happy.
The bitter tones between Alexander and his father didn't end though, but only grew worse as Alexander grew up to become an adult. At least in the eyes of the law, while his father still saw little Alex' as the child he needed to guide. "Do this, do that. Get an education, a job, a home and a wife." Alexander had heard nothing but his father's 'preachings' all those years, and so he listened to his friends instead for advice. That meant taking a massive step into adulthood when George was called into the Army, and Alexander followed him.
Adulting: His time in the Army and in Vietnam from 1970 to 1972 was both the most formative years of Alexander's life, and possibly the worst time of his life. At first the young Chicago loudmouth enjoyed his time in the military life, far away from his hawkish father and judging eyes. In some way he could be his own and total self, listening to The Rolling Stones and talking about girls to his heart's desire. His time in Vietnam both reinforced this free behaviour of Alexander, but also the horrors of war which scarred him deeply.
In 'Nam he spent the better two years of his life carrying an overly-sized radio on his back, calling in air-strikes and helicopter evacs on demand for Sergeant Jackson while fighting for not only his brothers in arms' lives, but also his own. When Alexander came back home from the war, he rarely spoke about it, only in passing conversation could one get a glimpse of the horrors he witnessed.
His return home to America and Chicago was no way easier for him, as he returned just in time to learn of his father's death. Car crash, wandering in the middle of the road with a bottle in his hand. Coming home to that cluttered, yet empty house on that rainy Chicago street made the young veteran realize something - his father was right all along. That cold autumn day in 1972 Alexander to do what his father had told him. No, begged of him. After all, he was a lot like his old man.
The rest of Alexander's life was as turbulent as an active vulanco. While he got a degree in electronic engineering from the University of Chicago, it was not until he met his future wife Judith that Alexander could begin the process of becoming a human being again. While his past haunted him as much as anti-war protesters chased him, she was the rock in the storm which he could find shelter on. With Judith, Alexander could become the person he wished to be, and his parents hopefully would have loved.
Your First Walker Encounter: The lack of response from the local coast guard on the Bahamas was met by a growing feeling of something being wrong. That's why Alexander turned his boat around from his wife's and his annual boat-trip around the Caribbean, and headed to the closest port he could find. Earlier news on the radio about riots had concerned the couple, but this was different. Alexander called over and over again over the radio, stating his boat's name and coordinates, but received no reply what-so-ever. It wasn't until they saw the harbour itself that they saw that something was indeed very wrong.
At first Alexander thought it was the Bahamas Coast guard that was watching them approach land, but they were too many to be simple them. Then he thought it was a group of tourists waiting for their boat. They all seemed to shout at their boat, but it wasn't until they got ever closer that they saw it; Them. Around the group of people all cluttered up, Alexander saw people all bloodied up, attacking those in the middle with vicious ferocity. Biting, clawing, grabbing and eating them. They weren't simple shouting at them; they were crying for help. As quick as he could, he managed to get some of the people onto his boat and sail away, leaving behind those now lying dead at the pier and the rest, moaning and grabbing after the boat as it sailed away.
Those First Years: The small group of survivors in the boat decided, after dealing with both a massive case of overcrowding and people turning to the Undead themselves, that going back to the mainland was not an option. Not at that time at least, and instead they made plans for living isolated from the infected. It was meant to be a safe plan, and for the longest time it seemed like it worked. Life was hard on the island they settled down on, supplies taken from brief raids at the coast, but they managed to go on living, not just surviving.
That was two years ago, before someone on that island died. Before anyone could react, the corpse sprung back to life, mauling its way through his wife's neck and others. Nobody knew how it had happened, at least those still alive after the incident. Regardless if the island was safe or not, Alexander couldn't stay there anymore, not after that. Alexander and a few others set sail for the mainland again, the old veteran himself vowing never to return to that God-forsaken island.
They headed north into better suited climate, though that meant nothing to the unforgiving world around them. Their numbers dwinled over time. Then the winter came, and an already weakened rag-tag group of survivors didn't fare well in the winter cold. One wandered off into the night in search of food, another was bitten by a Walker during sleep. The rest were killed when their shelter were overwhelmed by Them, while Alexander got away. Of that, however, he isn't proud.
Eden:One fateful day Alexander stumbled upon the biggest life-changer to that very day when he met two ladies in a TANK. Lola and Thalia. They agreed to take him with them for a while in exchange for some fine porcelain, hence Alexander's nickname of "Mugsy" that he swear by this very day. The trio drove on further until they came upon another group of survivors, though their meeting was cut short by Mother Nature herself. Some died, many were separated, but they all agreed to go on a mission; Take out Eden, Hell on Earth. They lost Lola in the fighting, but friendships grew in the group that would live on; Alexander, Thana, Beatrice, Thalia and Manny.
Searching:
They headed south after that, searching for the other group. Alexander lost his leg to a bear trap, Thalia her arm to a Walker, and Thana went MIA. But they did the only thing they could do - keep moving. Always keep moving, and you will live. And somehow they did just that. By seemingly God's grace they found the other group from just before Eden, another small group of survivors and the remnants of the United States Military. This was their best chance for the future, and they took it. Alexander took it, and went to Camp Mexico Beach.
Camp Mexico Beach: Alexander has adapted well to the new safe environment, though his internal barriers have more easily been broken down. The week went on for mostly the better, except the one incident of him losing all control and falling into a massive flashback. But now he's better than ever, finding some purpose in that his friends - even Thana who was alive, Thank God - are safe, though he will dearly miss Beatrice. In a world of anarchy and constant change, CMB was the military rock which he could find solid ground on. Though he could only imagine what the General - The Dragon - would have in store for him.
"Welcome back, Navyβ¦It'sβ¦ it's good to see you." - Upon being reunited in CMB.
Through the rupturing of the very Earth itself, through the hellscape of Eden, through schorching days and freezing nights out on the road, through the loss of Thana and return of her later, Alexander has been Thana's loyal trooper. They've not seen eye to eye always, especially when he lost his leg. She might have taken the blame for it, but to Alexander, he felt like a massive burden to the group back then. To Thana. He'd made peace with their strained relationship when she returned alive, and he found joy in being her friend. They'd been through a lot, but now they had walked through Hell. For now all was well.
Thalia Carmichael
"Thanks Thalia, you're an angel to ol' Mugsy." - Being tended to by Thalia after the flashback-incident in Quarantine.
The two cripples have been through a lot by now, and their unlikely friendship has shown to be resilient in the face of their challenges. Alexander views Thalia as the niece he never had, someone he trusts not only with his life, but his thoughts as well. Seeing each other less outside of their work within the basement of Administration, their kinship isn't going anyhwere, though Alexander fears what she might think of his actions during the war...
Manny Newman
"You don't know when to shut up, Manny, but you're goodβ¦Thanks." - Alexander accepting Manny's apology after the incident in the Chapel.
Alexander's fellow Baby Boomer, the victim of his "Bitch Duty" as put by Thalia, the best damn dentist in the post-apocalypse. Manny has worn many different hats since they first met at the barrel of a gun, but these days Alexander has one title that stands above the rest; His friend. Manny remains the person who simply can't keep his mouth shut, and yet Alexander finds his company a safe space of stability from his broken psychie. With Manny he can laugh and smile, joke and be sincere, even if he hasn't spoken fully open about his past. With time and patience, that will come. He deserves it. For really, why wouldn't he? Manny is the damned best dentist-surgeon in the whole post-apocalypse Alexander knows. Without him, Alexander would be a lesser man in many different ways.
Nigel Cooper
"So, Nigel, you acted or something then?" - Asked during conversation involving a certain tuna cassarole.
While Alexander finds the young redheaded man to be odd, with his out-of-date way of speech and fascination with swords, he believes Nigel to be a good man. He seems hardworking, and he's been polite towards Alexander so far. If only he could stop giving him those questioning, wondering looks.
Ashton Holloway
"Good to finally meet a fellow Stones' fan out here." - First day of Quarantine, bonding over The Rolling Stones.
Other than the respect Alexander has through Thana's relation to Ash, the two (former) soldiers have only sparingly crossed paths enough for casual conversation. When they have, it has always been on friendly terms. So far that's only been rock and roll, and Alexander has liked it. In due time Alexander may share war-stories. In due time.

β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ If there is one thing that Nigel has learned over the course of The End of the World, is it that one cannot survive without taking risks, sometimes even hang out the neck of one to save the others. Even his own. That's how Nigel tries to take on the hostile world around him, with a firm grip around his gladius and a stern look when he sees what they have to do, no matter the cost. He'll do so with ruthless Roman efficiency, not afraid to getting up close and personal.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Nigel, contrary to what most children assosiated with those people he came to study and lecture on later in his life, had a rather happy childhood. He grew up a little northwest of Leavenworth, Washington state on the West Coast, the son of a small-time farmer as a father and a veterinarian for a mother. The only thing he could have wished for better was more time with his parents, due to them being busy many a time when Nigel wanted company. But living close to the woods as they did, he had plenty of time to explore his little world of wonders and exploration. While he didn't have an interest in chasing the local wildlife, he did learn the in's and out's of what the woods had to offer; berries, mushrooms, leaves and the like to be eaten, and what to stay away from unless you wanted a real itch in your backside.
What time he did have with his parents, he learned the most from his own father. Being an ol'timer, his father preferred to make and repair his own tools, horseshoes, basically most of the metal used around the farm himself. "It's cheaper that way, and you don't have to pay for poorly made Chinese steel." his father always told him, but Nigel only remembered the smithing itself, which he never quit doing even as he went to university.
Adulting: Life at university - Washington State University to be exact, was to prove a bumpy new chapter in his life. Nigel felt awkward socializing with all the new people around him, not used to such large gatherings of people at one place after growing up in halfway isolation, far from the buzzling city life. He applied first to take a degree in agricultural science, hoping to find a field he'd like. His father always told him that that was as good a field as any to take, and so why shouldn't he listen to his ol' pa?
Because he hated it. Okay, perhaps "hate" was too strong a word, but he certainly felt it was not what he had thought of it to be. It just didn't click for him, and perhaps that was for the best. Because eventually, the rural farmboy made friends with other students at the university found a new passion in his life; Roman history. He had decided to attent one of the lectures with a friend, hoping to lighten up a dull day of papers and what-not. And by the end of the lecture, he was hooked. Addicted, in love, everything! He had found his calling in life; to teach history, and be amazed by Roman antiquity.
And that's what he did. He changed his courses over to teaching, grew closer into the group of friends and history enthusiasts. It even went so far as to him moving out of state to join a Historical Roman Reenactment group on the East Coast. Sure he was able to find work there, but it was still a bold move for a former country boy. His parents supported him, however reluctantly. And so Nigel worked mostly as a teacher through his adult life, but put more and more time into his side-time passion of reenactment. There he gradually became the expert on weapon smithing and Roman siege warfare, not only explaining curious bystanders how they fought in sieges on both sides, but showing them with real weapons and constructions. He did learn how to swing the Gladius too, but he much more enjoying walls and siege engines than swords.
Your First Walker Encounter: It was bad enough already that they had to attent a different faire because of some other reenactment group of vikings had been chosen over them. It was bad enough that they had so much free time on their hands due to little attendance, that they actually got through the whole "Building a Roman palisade fort" routine. It was even worse when they had to depend on their lives on the fort when the first signs of hell breaking loose arrived. At first it was nothing more than a distant shout of someone calling for a doctor, one which Nigel and his group payed attention to in the sense of fumbling for their phones and calling 911. But then, once the shouting turned into screams and cries, followed by loud moaning and people fleeing towards them, they knew something was wrong. Even more wrong when Nigel saw It for the first time; bloody, mortally wounded, yet stumbling determined towards him. Nigel didn't know what to do at first, but the sight of the carnage left behind convinced him of one option; to draw his gladius and threaten the attacker. When It didn't stop, he hit It across the head with the flat side. When that didn't stop It, the blade went through Its skull.
With more kills necessitated as time went by, he would stop questioning if it was right or not.
Those First Years: The groups first idea was to get as many as possible inside their Roman palisade to protect them. That they managed, guiding or even forcing people scared for their lives inside their little fortress before more of Them could grab hold. It worked at the start, but sooner rather than later it dawned on Nigel that simply sitting idly inside the fort was doing them any good. The Walkers couldn't get in, but neither could they get out. Within the nexy day their already pity supply of overly-priced water bottles and peanut bags ran out, as no one had expected this. And even if they did, they wouldn't have had time or space to store it. They waited, hoping the Walkers would lose interest and wander somewhere else. Nigel stood on top of the tower and watched to his horror that they didn't. More and more of Them came, hopelessly trying to grab him and only attracting more attention. They needed to get out.
Nigel led the group in their valient attempt to 'break the siege'. Armed with their swords and shields, the reenactors put up the show of their life, holding back the Walkers and cutting them up as they tried to protect the 'civilians' in the middle of their Testudo. Tried, because it almost worked. Some Walkers got through and had a field day, while others managed to get a bite or slash through the swords and shields, infecting them. And even when they managed to get most of them to safety in the local grocery store, the damage as already done. Within the night, more people had started to turn, starting the cycle all over again. That night Nigel started to change into his current self; he grew more cold and determined to survive, whatever the cost may be. The coming weeks, Nigel and his remaining 'Legion' decided that they needed a long-term plan, and set out on the open road for better grounds.
They found their sanctuary in an old, abandoned sanitarium, perfect to their liking; high, sturdy walls of iron bars surroudning the whole building, an open grounds perfect for farming, and plenty of space on the inside for storage and scavenging material for them building defences. And for a long while, it worked fine. The settlement, "Nova Invictus" as the reenactors fittingly named it, survived for two years with what they had. They allowed in some people, but many very turned away because of scarce resources, obvious Walker wounds and dubious motives. Nigel did regret those turned away, but knew he had little choice. It was "Us versus Them". And that's how they survived, and most likely attracted attention to themselves.
After the two year mark of Nova Invictus, they were attacked. Not by the Walkers or random looters mind you, but an all out-siege of their fortress. This was a well-organized band of survivors who wanted what Nigel and his people had, and they wanted it now. They refused to give up, and the siege lasted until their walls were breached and compound compromized; their home was gone, as the besiegers foolishly for themselves threw firebombs at the building. Nigel and those remaining saw the writing on the wall, grabbed as much as they could and fled out into the darkness to live another day. One died of severe blood-loss that night, and one refused to believe his girlfriend was dead and so went back, never to return. Nigel and the handful of close friends went on into the night, surviving another year and a half as semi-nomads. The last half year Nigel was alone, the last one of the Legion XIII Augusta still alone, migrating slowly and stealthely south in hopes of reaching spring sooner. He was unsure of where he was ending up, but eventually he found himself within the borders of Georgia.
Searching: Nigel didn't know what he expected to find down in Georgia, though he surely didn't expect to find the companionship of three other survivors. Well, they were four for the briefest of moments which will become clear. Nigel had taken shelter in an abandoned house in the midle of a swamp and ready to move on westward, when Fortuna decided to intervene. First he came upon a man asking about his wife; Robert was his name, a man of God it seemed. This would have been only an expected surprise to Nigel, hadn't it been for the three following survivors he met. The dynamic duo of Wayne and Hank, and Erica further up the road. Robert didn't make it far, suffering from heatstroke and lain to rest on the road.
They were an unlikely group of survivors, never quite the friendly bunch to everyone in the group, though they got further than Nigel had done on his own. They survived, and that was what was important. Over the course of the following month, the group of four made their way further south for about three months. As they ventured into the grand state of Florida, Fortuna struck once again with her sense of humour - even more survivors. This time it wasn't just a ragtag group of deshuffled people, but the remnants of the United States military. Three groups met in Wewahitchka, and they entered Camp Mexico Beach as one group of strangers.
Camp Mexico Beach: Initially Nigel was reluctant to lay his life in the hands of the military folks at Camp Mexico Beach, but the passing week changed his mind. They spent a week in quarantine for obvious reasons, though their stay was far from the horrid isolation he first feared. They were well-fed, cleaned, checked by medical staff and given access to more entertainment that Nigel had seen for years. At the mercy of the camp's people they were treated well overal, strict but fair. He had changed his mind. This was somewhere he felt he could stay, take part in rebuilding Civilisation. Only time will tell if he will stick out like a sore Roman thumb or not.
"Athena, excellent choice. I couldn't agree more really" -Deciding which Greek god suited each other, during first day of work.
Nigel first met Thana in Quarantine, surprised the level of emotional upheavel her appearance caused amongst the survivors gathered there. It quickly became apparent just how much she meant to them, and soon Nigel too would grow fond of the woman he'd call for "Athena". He was assigned to work with her in the greenhouse, finding its underwater-section a true Hanging Garden of Babylon. Unsurprisingly he became impressed with her skills, and truly respects her. It helps to have someone willing to listen to his Roman banter too.
Erica Monroe
"What, you too now? I do in fact not have a stick up my ass!" - Nigel to Erica's jest on what it means to be a bit stiff.
Nigel's first time with Erica was far from ideal. She was the one who had to take down Robert after he died of heatstroke, and the one to break the news to him. Though she was probably right, and the two of them followed Hank and Wayne back to that fishing shack in the swamp. The initial weariness has washed away over time as they've grown close friends. Erica has so far been the only one to take an interest in Nigel's Roman disposition and him in general, and for this he considers her his only true friend. It is therefore a shame that Erica has disappeared into the backdrop of the everyday life of CMB. No longer does Nigel find comfort in her presence, and he often finds himself missing her company, though it will be the same.
Ashton Jameson Holloway
"Nemo tenetur se ipsum accusare, Ashtonβ¦" - Quoted at Hunter's trial.
Nigel finds Ash to be a man with both his feet firmly planted on the ground, even if that observation is only at a distance. Their time together has been brief, but what words they've exchanged have shown Nigel that Ash is a man of his word, a strong individual and industrious military man. He has respect for the man, though he knows little of him.
Thalia Angelica Carmichael
"I...yield. Are you not...entertained?" - Yielding to Thalia in their first sparring match.
More than companions of verbal interactions, these two fighters spend most of their time together sizing one another up and down before they come to blows. Literary. While Nigel hasn't spoken much with Thalia, their time sparring and dueling has forged a peculiar bond. They fight, but help each other up back on their feet afterwards, even teaching one another a few tricks along the way. Nigel has nothing but blunt respect for the One-Armed Amazon. Respect, and a score he intends to win.
Alexander Polawski
"Not acting, reenacting. There's a big difference in playing with swords and actually swinging them." - Conversation during the Tuna Casserole incident.
The old legionaire, friend of Thana and man who's seen far too much. Those are Nigel's thoughts on Alexander, the old man from Chicago. They have only sparingly spoken with each other, and their paths cross rarely. For a man his age though, he seems capable of holding his ground. With age comes experience, like a true member of the Triarii. Nigel is curious as to what Alexander has seen, considering his bouts of daze. He wonders, and perhaps one day he will find out.
Amelia Vincenti Payne
"Just like how it worked in real life; limit the speed and increase the, what do you call it, Armor Class?" - Discussing the implementation of historical tactics into DnD.
While no connection was made between Nigel and Amelia during Quarantine, the neo-Roman felt a strong sense of sympathy for the troubled young lady the moment he laid eyes on her. Shaking, frightened and head clean-shaven, life had dealt a harsh hand of cards for Amelia. Their friendship didn't begin until the unlikely event of Nigel joining (or being fooled into joinging) the game of DnD. An unlikely friendship built upon his historical facts and tales, and her immense imagination, combined into an unstoppable force on the tabletop battlefield. Strange, but a welcome friendship.
Hunter Monroe
"You can keep cursing nuggets all you want, Hunter, but right now isn't a good time to apologize. Later. -Reprimanding Hunter for his drunken stupor at the CMB party, telling him to apologize later.
What started as a well-placed suspicion towards the clearly unstable young soldier, grew slowly (or quickly, it felt as if both were true) into a paternal sense of responsibility from Nigel's side. He tried - and failed - to help Hunter recover from his social ineptitude over the course of their first week inside safe walls. And now? Gladly the death penalty was not bestowed upon Hunter, though the enforced psychological help was not a fine wine to drink. Harsh, but neccecary. Nigel awaits and hopes for Hunter to find some semblence of social stability.
"A fucking... power saw?" - Hunter Attempting to be social at the bar with Thalia
β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Hunter is a complicated person at best. He has no urge to please others, though he would not go out of his way to hinders others for his own benefit. When asked he is more then willing to help, and if it's someone he knows or trust he will likely ask them if they are interested in help. He tends to smile a large portion of his waking hours, even when there seems to be no noticeable reason. He has trouble staying focused and on topic when in conversation with others, and he is very quick to judge others based on his past experiences. This can in many cases lead to relationships turning negative rather fast.
Hunter struggles with morality at times. In many cases not sure what is right or wrong, but understanding that not every situation is the same, leaving the line too blurry for him to find from time to time. He has found that the only times where the line seems to be clear to him, is when he is removing those who he has decided are causing more harm then good. His biggest concern, is his enjoyment of removing them. And knowing they can't cause any more harm. And, the fact that he would probably fail his own judgment at times.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Hunter grew up on his family property which was locally called "The Compound". It's primary purpose was to house the bulk of the local Monroe Family. It also served as the main and stable income for a couple households, the local scrap yard. Though the compound served other purposes, that was it's main purpose while Hunter lived there. It was hard work, but simple which was nice for the young boy. As a kid he wasn't the smartest kid growing up, not dumb by any means, but struggled in school, yet refused to ask for help, only making things worse in the long run.
Hunter could handle the hands on projects with some ease to them, but rarely enough to show potential in the trade fields, and he struggled enough in other classes that most people figured he would be confined to his family scrap yard for the rest of his life barely making ends meet. As he got older, he got more frustrated with his family life. Tired of being the care taker of his siblings, and tired of the schools treating him like he wouldn't go anywhere in life, and tired of his father who put pressure on him to accept that staying with the family wasn't a bad thing. This would slowly start building into arguments he would have with his Father, eventually forcing Hunter to run off determined to not get stuck on his family scrap yard.
Adulting:
Soon after Hunter ran off, he joined up with the local National Guard Unit. It offered food, a place to sleep, an education, and a future to spite his father with. After a few weeks in training, he started having second guesses, and when training was over he went home to resolve things with his family. After sorting out the many things they had to argue about, Hunter agreed he would do whatever he could to leave the Guard Unit. And his family would be there to back him up. That was the plan anyways, before his unit was called back to handle a local problem.
Those First Years:
Year 1: Hunter's deployment was fuck up after fuck up. Out of the 650 soldiers of his battalion that were supposed to show, 430 showed up. During evacuations the entire battle group was spread thin, forced to tell the public that they were evacuating that they would all be able to make it out, despite that there was no way that with what resources the government had ready to spare, that couldn't happen. Hunter met his first walker in one of these evacuations, and when that was over the remnants of his battalion were stationed at a football stadium in Buffalo to protect well over populated. Holding more people then the original building was built to have by more then twice over. The Stadium fell, forcing Hunter and the other members of his unit to pull out as many as they could, before locking the doors to prevent too many infected from getting outside.
Hunter's unit and the survivors of the refugee camp would return to his base where they would hold up waiting for orders that never came. Soon due to a lack of resources within the base, a conflict broke out. After days and days of Issues, Hunter found himself the last among the bodies, not sure who had killed who, or who he had killed himself. As there was nothing left of the base, Hunter returned home, hoping to see his family and figure things out. Only to find The Compound abandoned, the best of the cars gone, the guns gone, and no sight of them anywhere. He would wait at his family compound for months unsure what else to do. After waiting and no sign of them coming back, he returned to the stadium and tried to put his mind to rest by burning down the massive structure and all that it held.
Year 2-3: Hunter traveled from group to group, place to place, looking for any sign of his family. Checking homes of relatives, checking former vacation spots, even digging up manifesto's from evacuation logs to try and find any hints. Overall, no success. Not even useful hints to point him in the right direction. Hunter found himself with a few groups of people along the way, some better then others, most... less then great. Many Hunter just ended up leaving to never see them again, other times it would end with blood. Blood that Hunter enjoyed spilling, knowing that people like that wouldn't be able to cause more harm. He was always very confused about how to feel, he enjoyed it when scum like that were dead, and he got to do it, but the guilt of the amount of bodies he had built up was making an already morally challenged boy struggle even more.
Year 4: Hunter after leaving his last group of survivors found himself at the southern most tip of Florida. Having the last people he met all been killed by a large variety of things, He wasn't sure where to go now. Having checked any and all locations he could think of, he found himself with no where to go. In this moment of weakness, Hunter met Izibell the Rottweiler. She was trained, and overall seemed to enjoy the presence of the former soldier boy. She was someone who wouldn't leave him, and someone who helped him when he needed it. So he helped her wherever he could and continued to travel with her from there.
Camp Mexico Beach: Hunter either due to personal paranoia, personal trauma and the inability to work with it, his inability to understand other people, or sheer stupidity had spent his whole time in CMB only digging himself a deeper and deeper grave, finally hitting a breaking point once he lost his temper at those in charge, went to trial, and made it worse. It wasn't until it was blatantly shoved in his face by nearly every member of camp did he understand the damage and harm of what he was doing. By that point, it was too little, too late. The hope is that time spent in the camp's ward will give him the chance to self reflect and fix his problems before they can get him killed.
"I think I fucked it up" - Drunk Hunter while Nigel pulls him off scene from one of many fuck ups
Nigel had helped Hunter get out of his social bubble while he was in quarantine, and even acted somewhat as a parental figure to him as he attempted to figure out his own place in this new world. Nigel despite Hunter's repeated blunders had helped him time and time again. Each time Hunter feeling more and more guilt for dragging Nigel down with him.
Nikola Warren
"Nikki... sorry..." - Hunter realizing just how badly he had fucked up, and realizing how badly it effected those around him
Nikki was the first camp local that Hunter had developed a positive relationship with. If it could be called that. As the days went on Hunter's less then stable side kept turning up more and more often as Hunter found himself struggling more and more with how to react to situations and people. Their first few interactions went decent. A few friendly games here, a fun time on the beach (At first >.>), and even a completely awkward kiss from Hunter who had no idea how kisses worked. Even as Hunter was in lockup she attempted to get his side, and he took it in the worst possible way only making things worse for them. It wasn't until Hunter heard from Nikki was he had done on his drunken raves did he fully understand what he did to her, and realized how badly he hurt her. Despite that, she made the argument for him to stay. He hopes that post time in the ward, he'd be able to help repair whatever might be salvageable from the relationship while there is still something.
Ash Holloway
"We just... Followed orders I guess. Even the bad ones" - Hunter sharing the short version of his military career with Ashton while he was in lockup
Their time together was short, and there's not much of a relationship there. But to Hunter, Ash Holloway represents to Hunter what the military was supposed to be when he joined prior to the cluster fuck his unit became when things fell apart. He had brought a bit more a positive light on Hunter's thoughts with a fresh perspective that didn't include worst case scenario.
Lisa Mason
"..." - A severe lack of direct communication
Hunter has had little communication with Lisa during his time at CMB, but as his time in the ward went on he would come across her and her work in medical and receive the occasional updates Izibell and the outside world.

"Are you fucking crazy that is the exact opposite of calm and collective! Are you trying to paint the walls red with all natural paint?! Because that's what we're about to do!" - Manny to Thana as the two prepared to remove Thalia's arm
β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Manny is someone who likes to see the best in everything. He likes to see the best in people, the situation, and how things could be better in the future. He prefers when situations are solved without violence, as he believes it can create more problems then help at times, though pacifist would be a wrong word for the old doctor. Once a situation turns to violence he goes all in, his mentality reverting back to an aggressive teen who thought he could take on everything. He recognizes that he can have a temper at times and will go out of his way to stay focused on keeping calm and patient. Though many of his actions once he decides he is doing them, he is very hard pressed to change his mind.
Manny is a person who wants to help others do well in their life. He wants people to be in general safe, protected, and overall feel like they are doing well. He is an overall caring person who will go out of his way to help others if they need it. Though he isn't likely to press too hard once he sees his help is unwanted, as many times pushing it is a great way to make a situation worse.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Manny growing up was raised on a chicken farm. Though eh rarely spent time on it, caring to spend more of his time hanging out with his closer friends. Getting into fights, reading comics, setting off home made fireworks using spare supplies, all sorts of things that teenage Manny found entertaining. Despite the legal issues that he found himself in, he was never really scared of law enforcement, though he was scared of his Father. And many members of the law quickly found this out. During a brief conflict with another group of teenagers, the fight was brought to an abrupt end when one of Manny's closest friends were killed in the fight. Soon sending Manny on a path to turn his life around to prevent events like that happening again.
Adulting: Manny spent much of his adult life studying medicine. At first keeping it General until a couple years into his program where he decided to do into the more specified field of dentistry. Overall it was a long schooling career, but after his education he was able to go right into his field where he met his soon to be Husband John. His life from that point was pretty strait forward and uneventful, spending his free time reading, target shooting, and enjoying time with those he cared for. In his later years eventually buying a home, then setting up his own business.
Your First Walker Encounter: First time they had to deal with or saw a walker. Minimal 1 well developed paragraph but can be more. Good time to get feel for your character with a pre-post.
Those First Years:
Year 1: Manny found himself at an Emergency site for a decent portion of the early days, though due to local government collapse himself and other survivors were forced to leave and take shelter in random location to random location for several weeks until his group set up shop in an old Spanish fort. Where at first things went well, but food shortages became apparent as the fort started to show long term issues. After a year or so of Scavenging the survivors eventually left when a fire started burning down most of the wooden structures and crops inside.
Year 2: After a few more weeks the survivors Manny traveled with moved into a hotel with another group of survivors who had secured it prior to their arrival. The place was secure, had better food storage, and had better long term options that the survivors were able to set up. While here Manny would enter another marriage, trying to enjoy what life still had to offer. When food was starting to run low again, a large portion of the group left the hotel to find better long term locations, leaving Manny, his new husband, and a skeleton crew for a group to watch over the new home. While the main force was out though, a horde was able to break through the defenses, killing a majority of the people who hadn't gone out, including Manny's new spouse. When the main scouting force returned the horde was drawn away and the survivors that were still left inside were taking to a style of life.
Year 3: Over the next year Manny and the survivors were forced to become nomads, trading with other random groups, dropping off people who wanted to stay, picking up those who wanted to travel, trading whatever supplies could be spared. When Winter was about to roll around the Hotel survivors were forced to find shelter for the season. Before the winter season could kick off, they settled down in a gated community and reinforced the structures to hold against any wandering hordes, and set up agriculture. Overall, creating a comfortable post modern life.
Year 4: despite months of things going in favor for Manny's group, problems were bound to arise. A horde large enough to be able to block in the community for weeks on end was approaching, and with few means to redirect such a large group the survivors had to decide to hold a stand, or hide. Deciding that if the gates were to be attacked by this horde that they would eventually fall, it was decided that the group would kill as many as possible, while also trying to redirect them to a more controllable area. Manny despite his lack of overall combat experience refused to be left out this time, taking his gun and joining the redirection effort. The event ended with most of the volunteers dead, wounded, or bitten. And those that were left too few to keep the community running. When finding out that the horde was directed by a group so that they could loot their supplies, Manny and what survivors were left went out on a hunt to wipe them out, being successful in the end. Though with the community being left in shambles, many left to go back to old homes, go it alone, or stay in their dwindling communities, Manny being one of the ones to go it alone. Hoping to help those he could along the way.

Eden: Manny's time at Eden was rather short. With the events that took place with how the Eden group took prisoners and found more creative ways to kill those that had been captured. In Manny's short time he found himself in a fighting arena environment that thankfully due to his rather short stay he was able to hold out until the ironically named Team Eden showed up, causing enough mayhem that Manny was able to fight his way out of his cell, and continued to help clear the hell hole known as Eden. While present he made a choice to try and save Thana over Gavin, leading eventually to the death of Gavin. Soon after Alexander would find himself locked into a bear trap maiming his leg, and Manny being forced to amputate in an attempt to save his life.
Searching: Finally stopping after months of travel and close calls, Team Eden arrived into a vacant home clear of nearly everything inside. Whilst there Thalia found herself bit, and was in need of an emergency arm removal. With Thana's help they power sawed their way through Thalia's arm only causing severe damage to the appendage. With Thalia weak and at risk of infection Thana left to much of Manny's concerns. The remnants of team Eden would find themselves picked up by CMB scouts months later.
Camp Mexico Beach: Manny enjoyed his time so far in camp. Though he holds some minor reservations, they are minor tradeoffs so far in the world of the walking dead. Manny had met several interesting characters, some more friendly then others. Now that he wasn't nearly as worried about the threat of the dead he had been able to take time to build his relationship with Alexander and others taking time to enjoy his personal life and attempting to rebuild his professional career.
"You're a good man Alexander Polawski. I don't know where I would be without you." - Manny reassuring his friend while mentally preparing for Hunter's trial
Alexander and Manny met at gun point while inside the Eden complex. Manny using his pleads as a doctor to prevent getting shot under suspicion of being one of the cultists. Despite the rocky start, Manny would give everything he could to help support his friend, and he'd get the same in return. While in camp the two would start developing their friendship outside of well balanced survival into plans of fishing trips, stories of past lives, and plans in the future to improve their own lives. Noticing the toll that the Trial of Hunter was taking on Alexander Manny reassured Alexander that people can struggle yet still be good people. For both of their sake's, they needed to know they could still be good people despite their choices of the past.
Thana Martin
"Fuck my life..." - Manny hitting the realization that Thana's newly acquired power saw was the only valid option at the moment for Thalia's arm
The first time Manny met Thana was while at gun point being suspect of being an Edenight. Though his first conversation with her wouldn't be until a few minutes later when she was shot to pieces, and Manny chose to prioritize saving her over Gavin. Manny would grow to trust Thana as a leader and someone who had the group's interests at heart. Though he held doubts over her leaving to pick up supplies, in the end it worked out for everyone. He was impressed by the pounding the woman could take, and was glad to see her alive yet again while in camp.
Thalia Carmichael
"Knowing her, I'd say she'd recover and probably just hit things twice as hard with her remaining hand just to make up for the missing hand." - Manny explaining Thalia's condition post arm lobbing
Thalia and Manny had spent some harsh time on the road together. Though they wouldn't likely be poker buddies they held a trust for one another that could only be obtained by putting one's life in the hands of the other over and over again. While on their travels, Thalia found herself bitten by a stubborn walker who didn't take death as nicely as others. After removing her arm with a powersaw Manny would spend a lot of time making sure her wounds were stable and were not at risk of getting worse. It was one of the worst medical procedures he'd ever had to produce, and he'd be perfectly happy if he never had to do it again.
Lisa Mason
"My goodness I think you're right. Is this retirement then? Does that mean I have finally hit the grand age of Old?" - Manny to Lisa when she brought up that the two had technically switched professions
Lisa was one of the first people Manny had the pleasure to really get to know. She was knowledgeable about the camp, helped Manny get familiar with what to expect, and was a great work partner on his first day working within the camp. He loved listening to her grand plans for the future, and was even more excited when she found herself entering the medical field. Though she seemed to be strained by the boat puns, Manny loved being able to share some of his humor with more people who'd tolerate it more then once.
Amelia Payne
"Well hopefully you don't have too many encounters like that." - Manny post Amelia dog scare
Manny and Amelia have cross paths a couple times but it rarely went past the short conversations. He had talked to her briefly in Quarantine and before the bus ride to the funeral after she was clearly spooked from what he later learned was a dog scare. With the general positive attitude of people towards dogs in the community members he's met so far he wondered if that would be an issue with her and others. But so far it had seemed to work out rather well.
Nikola Warren
"Wouldn't hurt to have another Thana around." - Manny pleased to hear Nikki's general excitement of things
Manny had held a couple conversations with Nikki with most being in public places after Hunter had made a fool of himself. She seemed like a nice enough girl in his eyes, though definitely has a couple of those traits that he finds odd about youth. But she is a good reminder that people can all sorts of crazy things and still be a good person at the end of the day.

β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Thana is a mentally strong woman who is often distant and dry but her loyalty and dedication to those she cares about or has a leadership role over are second-to-none. Despite her cooler personality she is not without feelings and harbors a deep compassion for those with whom she have shared similar experiences. A level headed woman, even under extreme pressure or duress, Thana manages to keep her emotions in check during most circumstances. Logic and facts far out weigh emotions in situations. A quick wit, Thana can be considered as charming but her sense of humor can be taken as just an odd character quirk by some, disturbingly strange by others.
There is a strange level of detachment that Thana has when it comes to people and situations, disturbingly so, which was made evident when she was informed her sister was dead and later when she watched her first love die. Both instances it was apparent it bothered her no more than if she had stepped on an ant. Emotional detachment, loyalty, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to those around her makes Thana a good leader. Single-minded drive and lack of consideration for her own life makes Thana her own worst enemy; something that has nearly gotten her killed more than once and which she will carry the physical scars for the rest of her life. Thana is a doer and not one to wait for someone to talk/make plans/plot. Thinking outside the box and on the spot, she adapts to the situation. She lives by her own set of Rules and believe the world owes no one anything; you are to earn every breath and pay debt for every heartbeat.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Born and raised in Leesburg, Georgia, Thana is the daughter of a Military Family on her fathers side, and farm folk on her mothers. She is one of three children born to Macsen Martin and Chantilly Beard. The younger of 2 twin girls with 1 younger brother. Thana was raised mostly by her mother as her father was deployed or working as a Drill Instructor growing up. Thought of as a Spare Heir by her mother, Thana was left to her own devices growing up; spending much time in the woods either messing with plants and insects or singing to herself. When not outside she had her nose in a book.
At least until high school. Those years were spent lashing out, getting into trouble, doing drugs, drinking, breaking and entering, petty theft, and so forth. (There was reason but that wouldn't be revealed until later.) Over the course of three years Thana wracked up a juvi sheet a mile long. All mostly minor infractions. That was until she was arrested for Grand Theft and was going to be charged as an adult. Looking at serious prison time, the judge went old school on Thana and gave her a choice - Serve 60 days in jail: during this time acquire your GED and join the military on release for a minimal of 4 years - Or face 10-15 in prison.
Adulting: On release Thana had gotten her GED, taken her ASVAB, scored well, and signed on the dotted line with the U.S. Navy. Over the next 12 years Thana did well in the Navy. Going to college while serving, getting her PHD in Plant Pathology, working with relief efforts alongside the U.N. and eventually turning to recruitment. Serving everywhere from South East Asia to Texas. Being sent to various locations around the world to research invasive species of plants and insects as well as helping with U.N. efforts to teach locals how to best farm and utilize their lands and resources.
She ended up getting "stationed" (for lack of a better term) in the South East with a recruitment office. Thana had become the poster child for the Navy on how to turn ones life around through service. She would travel from high school to high school - mostly juvi detention centers - giving lectures on how her life started, what she had done in her past and just how far she had come. At the end of 2006 she was invited to UGA in Athens Ga to give a lecture to a post graduate class on the invasive flora of Georgia and how to fight against it.
Your First Walker Encounter: Spending time in Athens, giving lectures at the local university Thana was out and about around town, checking out the local bars and doing what the Navy thought she did best - recruiting. Looking for those "lost souls" that needed direction in their life. There was a massive heat wave and walking down the street between college bars an older gentleman had a heat stroke in the middle of the road.
Rushing over Thana did what she could but it was too late even if she had had the proper medical training. Standing there and keeping people back as they waited for the EMT the man came back and decided to teach those young whipper snappers a lesson it seemed by trying to gnaw on them like a dog with a bone. As the poor kid was pulled away and the man was kicked back, a single bullet to the head from Thana's service pistol dropped him like yesterdays left overs. From that moment on everything went South - literally.
Those First Years: Being in a crowded college town was not the best place in the world to have as a starting point for the end of the world. This "disease" spread fast and being in the military meant you worked with the local police, rescue, and national guard to try to keep things under control. It didn't go well and before long Athens was overrun with the Walkers. A last minute evacuation was all that kept Thana alive and she watched from the helicopter as the air force tried in vain to carry out an air strike on the city. The air strike hit but burning only went so far where these things were concerned.
The chopper took her and a few others back to the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay on the coast of Georgia near St. Mary's. By the time they landed the place was already over run, though thankfully it was not as populated as Athens had been. Thana and others were able to clear the majority of the Walkers from the base and hold up in one of the submarines for a couple of years. Using it as a base of operation and going out in search of supplies when needed.
Yet time takes it toll on all areas. There were not enough of them left by the time they decided to move on to actually use the submarine so the choice was made to lock up and leave in search of more. Maybe given enough time thy could get enough people and train them so they could actually set sail to ports elsewhere. It was a thought and one that never came to fruition. Within three months of leaving the so called safety of the base for recruitment Thana was the only one left.
During the next year she has wandered the state, moving a little more west each day and trying to find people. She has run across a few but nothing long lasting. Even though she was a hellion in her younger years, a career in the navy taught her quickly who she could and could not work with. Ever sensing shit was about to hit the fan, she would sneak off in the night from any groups she came across and move on. The last few weeks of that winter had been the hardest with the cold and snow setting in. God knows she needs to find some type of shelter and warmth soon.
Newnan: Thana had been on her own for sometime when she came to the gates of Newnan. She hunkered down low and watched the town from the tree line for a couple of days before approaching on a Redneck rigged vehicle that was half flatbottom boat and half four wheeler. Weapons pointed at her were expected, being whisked away under cover was not. Turned out there was reason for the madness. Thana's twin sister Zoie had one been a member and leader in the community, dating one of the locals before she died. Thana showing up was bound to cause some issues. It did but nothing that wasn't bound to happen eventually.
Due to the high tensions because of her arrival and the wedding that evening, Thana was tied to the C.O. of Newnan for the evening as his plus 1. It was an interesting even for her to say the least and rather pleasant once they got away from everyone else. The next morning turned into Hell. James killed Richard, Thana had to provide backup as he was kicked out Newnan, others deciding to go with him. Her first love Gavin showed back up. Thana was put in charge of Agriculture. Went on a run with Ash. Met up with some outside after following tank tracks in the snow. And then Newnan blew the fuck up. Everything divided up and the only way for her to go was South.
Eden: As her half of the group couldn't get back to Newnan, Eden was the destination. Unknown, it was thought Eden was responsible. Thana lead a small team into Eden, over throwing it, freeing a single prisoner, and taking out the man responsible for many deaths and a lot of havoc to Newnan over the years. During this time though they lost two members of the team: Lola Holler and Gavin Comfort. They gained a few weapons and a case a SpaghettiO's. (Which started a whole new war...)
Searching: Leaving Eden was only the start. Leading a group of four others, Thana kept heading south. It was a hard fought road. One member of the team lost their leg in a bear trap over the winter. Another lost her arm to a walker bite the following spring. While they had food/water/shelter, they also had 1 person still healing from having their leg amputated, and now another just having their arm cut off. They needed medical supplies. Thana left the group in search of supplies. She found them but found a lot more.
On the return trip she was blocked by a mammoth hoard of walkers headed towards the house where her group was. Thana used herself as bait to lead them in a new direction. It worked but almost at the cost of her own life as vehicular event caused her to crash off the side of a bridge and into the river below. Thana awoke weeks and weeks later in a hospital. Weeks more of recuperation and she was able to leave bed. Weeks more and she left the town to search for her people. She never found them, but they in a way found her after all.
Camp Mexico Beach: Returning to CMB, Thana had given up finding anyone she had been traveling with. Turns out they were there waiting. Thana was able to reunite with the four she was with after Eden and Ash from Newnan. Quarantine ended for them around the same time as her short quarantine ended for her return trip and shortly after she had the final steel pin removed from her thigh. After which Ash moved in with Thana to her officer apartment.
Thana has spent the first six months of Ash being in Camp Mexico Beach working on the Gardens for settlement and spending as much time as she can with Ash. She is still friendly with those she knows but Nikki has become like an adopted sister to her. She keeps her head down and tries to avoid anything that would take her outside of the walls, she feels she has spent enough time out in the wilds and is happy just living now.
"Don't ya ever be away from me that long again, that's a damn order solider." - Thana to Ash after reuniting in CMB
Thana met Ash under unusual circumstances. She arrived at the gates of Newnan in the middle of winter and was told to keep her face hidden. It wasn't until after she was rushed to the Captains house that she was finally able to pull her scarf down and find out just why he didn't want her showing her face in Newnan to start. That, it turned out, was just the start of what was going to be a very interesting Courtship. Thana was by his side at the wedding of the Newnans. By his side during the petty theft. With him that evening at his house alone, only to discover the man wasn't this cold distant object but actually someone full of passion.
Their chance meeting turned into an overnight romance, which was almost derailed at the start by the sudden appearance of Thana's ex-beau Gavin during the eviction of James from Newnan and Ash's sudden bought of jealousy. Things were smoothed out after the two had a rather heated discussion and some feelings were both professed and expressed. Thana was put in charge of agriculture by Ash and things seemed to be calming down when the two decided to go on a run to clear heads.
As Newnan fell, Thana and Ash were separated, one on each side of the ravine. Each had to go their own way but Thana tossed Ash her dogtags and ordered him to return them to her. They agreed to meet up further south and, if all else failed, to find each other in Florida where her family used to vacation when she was a child. All else did fail and Thana spent more than a year working her way south to try to find Ash, only to always come up empty handed.
Thana had given up hope after one last ditch effort to find him and the rest of her people had turned up nothing. Getting back to CMB Thana got out of the truck and was in mid-'fuck it' when she heard someone yell her name. Turning around and seeing Ash, Thana lost all composure she had held in all this time and collapsed in his arms. After some very private and soapy reuniting time, the two finished out Quarantine together and Ash moved into Thana's officer housing. She is deeply in love with Ash and is trying to have an actual relationship with the man.
Six months in and Thana only tends to spend time with Ash or Nikki outside of work. It is the first time in her life she has been able to truly be in love and live. She is not willing to part with that anytime soon.
Zoie Crawford
"Yes ma'am, identical. Well genetically. We are two very different people. We weren't ever close." - Thana to Miss Sally about her relationship with Zoie
Zoie was Thana's identical twin sister, at least physically. The two were very different personality wise and Thana hated her sister with the fire of a thousand suns. When she found out that Zoie was dead she felt nothing. Thana knew the truth of Zoie's past and it was nothing like the sweet face she put on for the people of Newnan. The Zoie that Thana knew growing up was cruel, evil, and down right a worthy bride of Satan. She is the reason Thana cannot have children and refuses to be around them in most any sense. Somethings even God can't forgive.
Gavin Comfort
"Ranger, this isn't the time." - Thana to Gavin about backing off.
Thana and Gavin dated before the Outbreak happened and were very serious. Gavin was the first person that Thana had started to fall in love with. Sadly for her Gavin wasn't over his wife who had died a few years prior and he ended things with her. Thana eventually got over it and had long placed him in her rear view mirror, until he showed up in Newnan just as her and Ash were coming together. It was bound to be a problem but as Newnan fell and Thana left to deal with Eden, things with Gavin became an issue no more when he dived in and took the fire that saved several lives but ended his own. She didn't shed tears for him until she was private.
Thalia Carmichael
"Well that was out of left field wasn't it?" - Thana to Thalia right before attacking Eden
Thana met Thalia the day that Newnan fell. The woman was riding in a tank with another. That is bound to be memorable. There is a saying that people can come together more quickly over a common enemy than a common love. Thalia and Thana were proof of that. They both had their reasons for attacking Eden and they bonded. The two became friends during their travels and Thana felt, and still feels, personally responsible for the loss of Thalia's arm. It was why she left that day, to find supplies, and one of the reasons Thana has such a heavy debt with CMB - Paying for a prosthetic isn't cheap.
James Grady
"Don't ya be 'mama'ing me boy, yous got better manners than that." - Thana to James at Newnan's front gate
Thana knew James growing up but he was better acquainted with her sister Zoie. Thana hadn't seen the man since she left home to join the Navy and it was a surprise to see the man when she showed up in Newnan. It wasn't exactly a happy reunion but it also wasn't unhappy. Thana was rather indifferent about it and as long as James didn't mention Zoie around her she was willing to put up being around him. Didn't matter as he was exiled for murder shortly after her arrival, and then died when Newnan fell. It didn't bother her that he died but she knew it affected Ash.
Emanuel Newman
"Do whatever you are doing quickly Doc, we're moving now." - Thana to Manny while he's trying to patch her up in Eden.
Manny was a captive in Eden when Thana lead the attack against it. Turned out he was the only good one in the place. The man is a hell of a medic and more than earned his place in the group over the year+ they were together. Thana had to leave the group for supplies after Thalia lost her arm and it wasn't until Thana got back to CMB that she saw Manny again. Seems the man is like a Timex: takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
Alexander Polawski
"Yeah, I think you can place that call now." - Thana telling Alex to radio Lola
Another member of the team that attacked Eden, Mugsy more than proved himself. They were together until Thana had to leave. He was another that lost a limb during their time heading south towards CMB. Another one Thana blames on herself. Another reason she had a heavy debt with CMB.
Beatrice Decker
"You're in fucking charge." - Thana to Beatrice before she left to get supplies
Thana and Beatrice got along enough. Working through Eden together and through the back woods of Georgia trying to get to CMB. When Thana left to look for supplies she left Beatrice in charge. When she met back up with the woman in CMB, it was Beatrice's turn to leave. Like Beatrice when Thana left, she was disappointed but she understood sometimes you just have to go with your gut and hope it pays off.
Nikola Warren
"Col. Martin was right when he said you were like me." - Thana to Nikki about their similarities
Thana met Nikki after she awoke from her coma in CMB. The girl was constantly hanging around and following Thana, especially after she left the hospital. Thana finally called Nikki out while she was hiding in the shadows one day and the two started talking. Turned out that Nikki reminded Thana of herself when she was younger. The two started taking daily runs together and talking down at the beach in the evenings until Thana left to look for her people once again. Thana thought about Nikki a lot while she was out with Mizrahi and was glad to see her when she got back. The girl looks like she is taking some more responsibility and can handle it. Thana thinks the girl is more and more like her each day. While Thana could never handle being a mother figure towards anyone, perhaps a big sister isn't such a bad thing. The kid needs direction.
"I'm a blonde, I'm not stupid!" - Nikki to Auntie about doing her job
β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Nikola is just a kid trying to survive the end of the world. She is rather immature about a lot of things: chores, regular duties, and the like. She has a bit of an attitude and tends to write checks her ass can't cash. Her mouth tends to run before thinking and she isn't exactly one to hold back. In fact, she tends to let unfiltered anything come out of her mouth with thinking it might not be the best thing to say right then. This combined with her immaturity can make her a bit quick to pop the cork on her temper. Mouthing off or lashing out. While she still has a lot of growing up to do, she has come a long way from the girl who had just entered high school and was pick pocketing people for shits and giggles. She's sweet but a little bit psycho.
Nikki a pretty down to earth person. She likes to crack a joke and laugh. She'll be goofy and jump from one topic to another. Even though she was only just barely in high school when all this started, she is a bright girl and street smart. When she is in a good mood she can even be called bubbly. Known to dance or mutter songs to herself as she bobs around. The young woman is curious and when something new is around, or more than that these days, someone new, she wants to know about it. There isn't a lot to fill a young persons mind these days that partially grew up in an age with the internet, apps, and the like. It's not she can spend her day setting up her top eight places on MySpace anymore. Watching and listening, even as she gabs or chews gum.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Nikola was born in Trenton New Jersey. Her mom and dad met in a bar near Fort Dix while he was stationed there. They were dating but it wasn't anything serious. When she got pregnant she wanted to abort Nikola but her dad talked her mom into keeping the baby. Promising if she just signed everything over she would never have to deal with the kid. Nikola was born on Feb 29th, 1992. The papers were signed and her mom vanished.
It wasn't bad though. She was daddy's little girl and the two had a blast while she was young. Raised on different Army bases, she traveled a lot with her dad and was raised basically by her military family. Skateboarding and swimming became her hobbies to pass the time when she wasn't in school. Each summer they would trek down to Mexico Beach and get a room at the El Governor Hotel. Building sand castles, collecting sand dollars, fishing off the pier. It was just a good time over all and she was enjoying things. That was she was about 12 years old, then things changed.
Her dad never wanted her to have the military life and by the time she was twelve she was tired of moving constantly, never being able to keep friends because of the move, tired of having a bunch of military guys constantly watching over her. And the Army Mom's that would watch her were even worse. So she started rebelling. Picking pockets and breaking into places she shouldn't have been. Her father promised her that Fort Benning would be their last post and after a few years he would retire and their last move would be to Mexico Beach.
Your First Walker Encounter: Nikola was dating Bran Stems at Spencer High School. He was on the wrestling team, she decided to sneak out to see a match. Sitting in the stands, cheering away, Bran was caught in a bad hold and his neck was snapped on accident by his opponent. This, understandably, broke the then 15 year old girl. His coach gave her a few minutes alone with the body after the gym was cleared to say goodbye. While hugging him, she almost got bit as he came back. It was traumatizing as she tried to get away. Grabbing one of the sideline chairs she fought him off like circus act and ended up driving one of the legs of the chair through his eye, dropping him.
Those First Years: Some promises can be kept, some cannot. When the outbreak occurred, Fort Benning was where her dad was. Quarantine and chaos. No one knew what was going on, what to do. Being so close to the Alabama/Georgia line, near cities of decent size didn't help. Nikki did what she could do to help and aid but she was only a kid. By the time it had been a year after the first word of the outbreak occurred the place was no longer a safe place to be. It really hadn't been for a long time before that but there were supplies, weapons, and MRE's. It was safer than out there on the road.
Yet, they couldn't stay forever. Nikola, her father, and several others that had still survived left the base and started to head north through Alabama. Took a year to get to Tennessee and by that time half of the people they had left Fort Benning with were dead. Either from getting bit or having to be put down because they went crazy and became a threat. They had taken on more but none ever lasted long. Too many lies about what they had done or been through came out and caused issues.
Then she lost her dad. It wasn't some major walker event. He just stopped walking one day, grabbed his chest, and fell over dead. Nikola figures it was a heart attack. He had promised her Mexico Beach. So she left the group and headed south. Being alone made it hard and she had to learn on the run. Survival and knives. It was all she knew as she made the long trek by herself, avoiding people at all costs.
By the end of year two she was in Mexico Beach, picked up by what she calls the Martin Musketeers. She didn't want a military life but the town was her goal and she was nearly starved to death when they found her on the road. The first two months were the hardest. The place was getting it's wall and still didn't have electricity. Quarantine lasted two months back then. Alone, in a single hotel room. There was no conference room. You stayed there with nothing to do while they waited to see if you were carrying any disease. If you were bit and were hiding it. Interview after interview. The process was long and hard but it was better than being on the road.
After she got out, she didn't want to do school again and started causing trouble. Breaking into the distillery and nearly getting booted. She still a kid at heart but is doing better than she was years ago. She's been raised during the outbreak and finds that makes her better at dealing with than most. She wants to work in Safety but right now she is stuck in Supply, which is beyond boring for her and she can tend to get herself into trouble. Maddoc took her under his wing and started training her. Focusing her on weapons and fighting. It was an outlet.
Camp Mexico Beach: Nikki started out working in Supply but worked the Security Team during the Quarantine Period of Newnan/Eden/Swamp Group for a bit when they came in. Then it was back to supply until further needed. Helping out, like getting supplies down for the Beach Party and taking Hunter over to get his dog back.
"You aren't my daddy!" - Nikki to Maddoc when he grounded her the first time
Nikki was nearly starved to death on the road when she was picked up by Maddoc, his bother Macsen, and his father Aeron on a supply run. Nikki tried to run. Three men in the world and a girl alone, these were things her dad had warned her about before he died. She was too weak to really fight. They threw her in Quarantine for two months. That was hard. A detox period they called it back then. Alone, away from people, get rid of disease or let it kill you, don't waste meds, see if the person can slowly adjust. Maddoc was her "liaison" back then. He brought her meals, washer main guard, watched over her, and so forth.
Nikki hated him for it at first but she wasn't about to complain. She was getting fed and putting on weight. It wasn't until after she got out of quarantine that she started causing issues, like breaking into the distillery. It nearly got her kicked out but Maddoc put his ass on the line for her. Acting like a father to her even if she didn't want him to. Training was hard the first years and Maddoc kept her under lock and key for a long time. Nikki earned his trust though and earned some security shifts. First she took was with the Newnan/Eden/Swamp/Dog group that came in. Went well enough and there were no major problems.
Thana Martin
"How'd the fuck you know that? What, you some kind of psychic?" - Nikki to Thana after being busted for spying
Thana was in the hospital when Nikki noticed her. After that Nikki started to trail Thana to see if she could find out more about the woman who spent her first weeks in CMB unable to say anything. Thana apparently noticed this and called Nikki out on it. After that the spying stopped and the talking began. Turned out that Thana was much like Nikki when she was younger, which surprised Nikki. The two talked a lot before Thana left and Nikki was relieved when she showed back up. Nikki has enjoyed having Thana back around and looks at Thana as a big sister she never had. Much of the time she looks at Thana as her only mother but she knows Thana isn't comfortable with the mom thing so she sticks with sister.
Side Note: Nikki enjoys annoying Ash but she doesn't try to cause too much trouble as she knows how much Ash means to Thana
Lisa Mason
"Seen my gum?" - Most Mornings
Lisa is Nikki's roommate and probably her closest friend outside of Thana. Lisa helps Nikki take care of their dog, which was once Hunters. They get along well and have a lot of the same energy. Nikki was considering looking into going into medical after a talk with Lisa but ended up deciding to stay on the track she had about getting into Safety in the camp, she just enjoys fighting ppl a lot more than she does healing them. Not to mention, if she was working in the hospital, she would probably end up having to see Hunter more often.
Hunter Monroe
"Only people that deserve to have a gun pointed at them get one in their direction." - Nikki to Hunter about getting a gun pointed at him
Nikki met Hunter while he was in Quarantine. It was her first time being on a security detail. He was one of the young folks in the new group, so of course she was curious. She isn't exactly sure what to think of the guy. She won a kiss from him and talks to him here and there but Major warned her to keep her distance. After that everything mostly fell apart and Nikki washed her hands of Hunter. She didn't speak to him over the 6 months he was in lock up and instead turned her attentions elsewhere.
"Protection comes in many forms." - Strength isn't always about muscle.
β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ A cunning woman, Tatiana can act in a rather scheming and ruthlessly determined way. She is crafty and shrewd: being rather astute and having rather keen powers of judgement when it comes to people. She is clever and sharp-witted: perceptive and observant about her surroundings in both location and the people around her. Alert and ever crafty. Steady and resolute she is resolved in her determination and unrelenting in her perception. A persistent woman, she is steadfast and unyielding about matters. Capable of much, she is concerned about the safety of those around her and safeguards them as much as possible in her actions and plans. Mindful and vigilant she is wary and careful.
Tatiana can be cautious and has many reservations. Vague about details and reluctant to share. Noncommittal and discreet is perhaps not an obvious choice to describe her ways but they are more than accurate. She is leery: wary due to realistic suspicions. Skeptical and not easily convinced she is ever questioning. She is unpredictable and temperamental, having drastic changes in her mood and actions that come on suddenly and without warning. Volatile: she is liable to change rapidly and unpredictably, especially for the worse. Strained by events, she is tense and uncomfortable around most. Suspicious, she is obsessively anxious and mistrustful, having an appalling dread in her that makes her overly cautious around people to an extreme.
Update: Tatiana has done well in therapy and has been able to deal with many of the issues that were plaguing her when she entered Camp Mexico Beach. That being said, it does not mean she is the bubbly girl she once was. She has hardened a lot and that cannot be undone. The world took its tole and somethings cannot be healed, only managed. She is still suspicious about new people but she isn't obsessively anxious anymore or cautious to an extreme. In fact she is more willing to take chances these days.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Tatiana was born to Name and Name in Kirov, Kirov Oblast, USSR. This was during the tail end of U.S.S.R. and she was forced from Kirov to many other places in Eastern Europe throughout childhood as a refugee. Jumping from camp to camp to avoid the wars that always occurred when a large empire crumbles to dust. This continued for years and put her through what she believe would end up being the hardest years of her life, including watching her parents be executed in the street in front of her as she hid under a dead body.
Once the fall of the Soviet Union settled down she was able to return back to the city of her birth. There she stayed, living in peace, studying ballet and going to school until her sixteenth year. An American Ballet Company offered her a chance to move to the U.S.A. to study. She jumped at the chance and was eager to start a new life in a new world. It would be a chance to become something other than just another local girl who dreamed of becoming a Prima.
Adulting: Transferring to the U.S. was difficult, since she did not speak the language but with the help of tutors she was able to grasp the language and ended up getting her GED while working with the ABC to further her dance interests. Ballet came first, everything else was second. This was how things had to be if she ever wished to become something great. Though it seemed not to matter how good of a dancer she was or how much talent lay within her, due to her build she was always placed at the back of the pack.
In 2005 she opted to try taking a new direction with her dance and decided to move to Las Vegas Nevada. A city of Sin perhaps but also a place where those whose dreams would not come true elsewhere could come true there. That is if the luck of the draw was in your favor. For Tatiana it was. She found work with a production company as a back up stage dancer and quickly worked her way up to be the headlining performer. For the year before the outbreak she was happier than she ever had been, dancing on stage six nights a week as the star of a show that was designed just for her. She thought the worst in life was finally behind her, she was so terribly wrong.
Your First Walker Encounter: Rumors had been going around about how other areas of the country were falling to a flue type outbreak but in the middle of the Nevada desert things seemed okay. That was until it wasn't. The fever began to take people and soon the city of sin was turned into a war zone; one that reminded Tatiana of the cities back in Russia when things collapsed. Resources were low and it was hundreds of miles to get to the next city; people rioted but the shows had to go on and did until the very end. During what turned out to be Tatiana's last performance a man took ill during the first act, he was dead by the end of it and everything was put on pause while they awaited EMT's to remove the body. Tatiana was standing on stage watching as the scene unfolded and was horrified when she saw what she thought was a dead man grab one of the EMT's and start to rip the mans flesh off his bones with his teeth. She ran off backstage and grabbed her things before heading out the back door and into the streets; her survival instincts kicked in; at least flight had at that point.
Those First Years: For the first few weeks after the outbreak began Tatiana spent locked up either at the performance hall she used to perform at or locked away in her apartment. Her life growing up as a refuge and in a crumbling economic setting had created a bit of a hoarder within her. Ever since she had become comfortable in Vegas she had kept supplies. Food, bottle water, medicine. Anything she came across that she wished she had had more of during those refuge years made its way into her apartment.
She ended up deciding one day to try to see what was going on outside and began to search the streets; trying to find information if things would get any better since the net and tv no longer worked. Maybe she would find someone she knew. It would be something; anything was better than the solitude at that point. Solitude was the worst part of being a refuge after the starvation and pain. Sometimes it could actually be worse.
Tatiana was rounded up and taken to a camp, a supposed safe zone. She knew better than that. The place was like every other refuge or interment camp she had ever been in. It was no better. This many people who were hungry and scared crowded together in a small space never did well, add to that that there was an illness of some sorts causing things to go wrong made it so much worse. Disease spread in small confines. The only solace she found was when Davina found her. The two made a plan to get out and get away.
Since then they have been together; jumping from group to group when needed but mostly trying to stick it out on their own. The less people in a group that better. Two seems to be their perfect number. Both know enough to balance out the other and keep the pair going. Whether it is when Davina has to con a group to let them in for a short time or they are stranded in the middle of no where and Tatiana has to use skills she wished she would never have to again to keep them going. Either way the pair have survived this long and made it almost to the east coast after all this time.
Carrollton: In Carrollton she lost track of Davi, who had been with her since the beginning of the outbreak and through the entire trek to the east coast. Where she went Tatiana does not know. Tatiana ducked down in a closet in the DMV in Carrollton, when she came out Davi was gone and a man was there: Jack. The two stuck it out together for the next few weeks, moving through Carrollton to collect supplies and get to know each other.
Newnan: Arriving in Newnan was interesting. Tatiana was scared but had Jack. She got to know the people there, taught some dance classes but mostly studied psychology and learned how to counsel people. She became the main therapist for Newnan. Tatiana married Jack in Newnan and had a lovely wedding. The day Newnan fell Tatiana chased an orange cat into the distillery. The two ducked into a stand alone freezer when the place caught on fire and went up in smoke. Tatiana awoke later that day to find Newnan burning. She escaped with another and that damn cat following her.
The Road: Tatiana kept trekking, leaving markings behind so that Jack could find her if he was still alive. She gave birth to Jamie in the woods, days later - alone - she left and kept moving on. On the road, she was captured by a group who took Jamie hostage. Tatiana did what was needed to ensure the life of her child. Tatiana kept traveling with the group despite the burns and branding and other methods of torture she survived. Jamie kept getting older, Tatiana kept an eye out and leaving a trail when she could.
Reunited: It was raining and dark when Tatiana jumped out of a moving car after seeing the Hordebuster in the road. A fight ensued but in the end she was reunited with Ash, Jack, Riley, and Amelia. Finishing off the group that took her hostage, Tatiana kept moving with Jack and Jamie south, following Ash's orders. They ended up in Florida after a time and met a group from a local safe zone: the first Tatiana had seen since Newnan.
Camp Mexico Beach: Tatiana went into Quarantine. She ate, punched Ash, taught Ballet, did her chores, kept otherwise to herself. The interview was long and in Russian. Tatiana then moved into an apartment with Jack that had a room for Jamie and a local to help get them settled. Over the six months after the quarantine Tatiana attended many therapy sessions to work through her issues. As she did it caused a rift between her and Jack. They are still together but Tatiana doesn't look at him the same way she used to, currently they are mostly just together because they are comfortable enough around each other and want to be a support system for Jamie. Tatiana is considering full separation.
"Oh da, there is something you need knov." - Said right before Tatiana decked Ash
Tatiana met Ash in Newnan back when he was the leader. She worked with Ash very little but she talked to him a lot, following him around and poking him with a stick to talk. He married both her and Jack in Newnan before it fell and once the group met back up together he was named Jamie's Godfather. After they reached Camp Mexico Beach, Ash found Thana and he stepped down from being Jamie's God father, that was after she punched him. It was for the best. The man is the closest thing she has to a brother and she is closer to Ash than most anyone, probably even her husband at this point.
Wayne Maldonado
"Holy fuck Batman!" - Said right after Tatiana decked Ash
Tatiana met Wayne in Quarantine. He was different but got her and Jamie juice, seemed to look out for her and the baby, and stood up for her when others turned against her. Wayne started taking on the role that Ash was stepping down on and Tatiana ended up letting Wayne watch Jamie from time to time in Quarantine. He seems calmer with the baby around than when left to his own devices. Tatiana started teaching Wayne ballet, he sucks but she still works with him.
Wayne has become one of Tatiana's most trusted confidant as he is usually the one watching over Jamie these days.
Thalia Carmichael
"Da, I vill teach you" - About teaching Thalia ballet
Over the first six months, Thalia and Tatiana were around each other a lot due to training and Thalia wanting to learn ballet. The two have become good friends even if they really don't say a lot to each other. They push each other during training and when they aren't they are much like the silent female version of Hank and Wayne - a lot of nods and grunts while looking at other people.
"My life is an ever swirling toilet that just won't flush" - Shit doesn't stop
β Looking Inside ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ Wayne is intelligent, driven, a force to be reckoned with. He sees the details where others might miss them and is ever the little helper. He is kind and loving, there for the common man as a protector. He is the hero we deserve. Okay, he was. A life time ago. Maybe two or three life times ago. He was once a great detective with the NYPD, but the harsh nature of the job got to him and he gradually slid into addiction and cynicism. Part of that good man who was a detective is still there, deep down. Deep DEEP down, somewhere in the cockles, maybe the sub-cockles, maybe even the colon. Today, Wayne is broken, down-and-out survivor who if he can finds it will live off a steady intake of drugs, booze, and sleaze. A sarcastic man with really no regard for his own life. The man goes through severe moments of trying to off himself only to have it back fire in his face. He says he is "Blessed with Suck." He believes he has pretty much seen it all, the worst that humanity has to offer and is genuinely surprised when he sees kindness. Every the cynic, he is skeptical of all around him.
Happy doesn't think that at all. (Yeah you heard me. Happy!) Oh, did I forget to mention that the man hallucinates a little blue unicorn with white wings, a pink horn, and buck teeth? Yeah, there is that. What type of mental disorder the man has now is anyones guess. On the outside when you strip away the addiction, the self-loathing, the suicidal tendencies, the cynicism, and the sarcasm the man is actually very well adjusted. Except for Happy, Happy is something else.
β A Brief History ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Growing Up: Wayne grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Life was good. He came from a good old Italian family. Third generation in the US. Mother adored him, father was proud of him and his brothers kicked his ass. Life was good. How could it not be? Fight, eat, school, fight, eat, school. Ahh, just like the Irish but with good food and a cooler accent. Church was every week, he was even an alter boy - no he wasn't abused by priest. Father Giovanni was actually a good guy and was known to take a cane to other priests in front of the parish. (He didn't know why then, he does now.)
Adulting: Eventually he had to grow up and being from an Italian family meant you grew up to be one of three things: A cook, a cop, or a crook. Well his grand father was a cop, his father was a cop, both his brothers were cops, and his mother was a cops wife and mother: so he grew up to be a cop. It was just meant to be. After high school he married Sophia Maggidino. They had a daughter. He graduated from the academy and joined the force. Getting his degree at night school and eventually becoming a sergeant and a detective. Life was good.
That was until he saw one to many cases of shit hitting the fan. Time just wore on him and eventually Wayne snapped, beating a suspect nearly to death and biting his finger off. He went on leave. He got help. He came back - no sober. Shit kept happening and he kept getting worse. Eventually he was sent up state to get some rest. His wife divorced him and took his daughter to Florida to live with her relatives. He never saw them again but hey, he made more friends - these were all real.
Your First Walker Encounter:"Those fuckers. You would think with talk of the world going to shit that they would keep a better eye on the slightly mentally ill. You know, we short short fuses naturally but put us all together in close confines with the meds running out and shit is going to hit the fan. It did and wouldn't you fucking know it. One of those asshat slimball orderlies decides to get his putrid stinking ass off that lovely daisy patterned tile floor after I crushed his chest cavity in and tried to take a bite out of me. Can you believe that shit? Well, if I remember one thing from the academy, you put one round in the leg or shoulder to immobilize but not kill. I knew to NOT to do that. All else fails, take that bastards head clean off. I think Babe would have been proud. I knocked that fucker right out of the park. Happy puked, it was great."
Psych Hospital: Being in an insane asylum when any out break occurs is usually a good thing, you are cut off from the world so less likely affected. Not this out break though. Close confines with the dead makes more dead, people freak out, people do bad shit, people die and are killed. Then there are the insane. First thing was first, breaking out once shit started to get bad. Sure, it was about 8 months into the out break before he left the asylum but finally got to a point where one had to leave. Not because of people, but because of lack of resources. Plus he didn't want deal with the masses during year one.
Amish Country: By year two he had made his way to western Pennsylvania. He had to get the fuck away from major cities. What better place to go than to see how the Amish were fairing. I mean come on, a whole community of people who used no technology, had guns, and could self sustain. It seemed like a good idea. It was, except for the fact the Amish didn't like outsiders BEFORE the out break. Since it had happened, even less. Okay, he got some meals, did some work, but in the end Moses Yoder made him and a friend exit by gun point. Apparently Wayne and Happy had had one to many color arguments in front of little Eli.
Blue Grass: Come year 3 he had gone through West Virginia and landed in Kentucky. Blue Grass state my ass, more like who the fuck would ever want to be here state. Trees, lots of trees. Bugs, lots of bugs. Snakes, lots of fucking snakes. Booze, no booze to be found. Shit. And since no one had really ever lived in the state BEFORE the outbreak there was not a lot to raid AFTER it started. Kentucky was a bust. A complete and utter waste of a time but no going back and fuck Ohio. They were not repeating Amish Town. Screw those butter churning fuckwads.
Dixie Here I Come: Wayne was too old for this shit. He wanted to retire. Florida became the destination. He was NOT going through Atlanta. Screw that, so head south east towards the coast. South Carolina was year four. Decent places to raid, not a huge amount of people as long as you avoided the like three larger cities there. It wasn't a bad state but older men, once they make their minds up, it was done. And he had told Happy if they could get there, Disney World was a possibility. He lied but did Happy know that? Um, probably.
Georgia: It's year five now and Wayne has managed to get to Georgia. He isn't on the coast. Got pushed more west than he would like but hey, he is closer to Florida than he ever has been. Hopefully they will get there eventually but for now, smaller towns for raids, not too many people to deal with and that hoard is way behind him now - last seen on Jeykll Island where ran across some dead fuckers in Navy Uniforms clamoring around a submarine.
After that was the fucking swamp. And finding some more folk. One a girl: hot damn. Two a Roman: fucking hell. Still, have to keep moving forward and he did. Finding drugs where he could, drinking where he could, spanking in the woods when he could. One foot in front of the other trying to get to Florida because that is where old fuckers like him retire.
Camp Mexico Beach: Okay, this shit show wasn't a shit show. Sure, first things first - was getting found but after that, fuck yeah. Food, recliners, food, baths, food, ballerina's, food, air conditioning, food, beds, and did I mention food. Yes, quarantine wasn't a party but it wasn't bad. Fuck anyone that thought so, it was a god damn Eden! Para-fucking-dice! And then a beach party? Yeah, sure he had to go through therapy but fuck, for food, lay me down and talk about my childhood. SHUT THE FUCK UP HAPPY!!!
While he still sees Happy, he has learned to live with it and deal with the little fucker without meds. He spent many hours with Freedman over the first six months out of quarantine but Freedman does not take credit for Waynes turn around, he places that on Tatiana and Jamie. Having a family of sorts has seemed to help stabilize the man. He is still skitzo and will always be but Wayne is learning to deal well with it. Wayne self imposes isolation in lock up when he feels his mental state is getting out of control. While Freedman no longer believes he can help Wayne, Wayne still seeks him out to talk. Admin keeps Wayne assigned with Tatiana to help keep him as level as possible.
Hank and Wayne have been together since day one of the out break and Wayne refers to Hank as his hetero life mate. Fuck Jay and Silent Bob. Wayne traveled with Hank from New York to Pennsylvania: Dealing with the Amish together was entertaining enough for a time but well, we wont' go into why they had to leave. Virginia to Kentucky: No wonder people fucking drank before the outbreak in these states. They continued together through Georgia: The coast was interesting, seeing people fleeing a submarine. The Swamp they found more people. They reached Florida together: about fucking time! Hank is like a baby sitter at times to Wayne, Wayne gives Hank someone to talk to other than dead people, which is good.
Tatiana Newnan
"HA!" - When she punched Ash
Wayne met Tatiana when he got put in quarantine. He brought her and her kid food, she started teaching him ballet. It was an odd combination but Wayne seemed to latch on to the little red head with a nasty right hook. Babysitting Jamie from time to time in Quarantine. The two have grown a lot closer over the months between their therapy and working together. Wayne is now Jamies godfather and spends much of his off time taking care of the little one for Tatiana, who he seems to have adopted as a daughter.
