✡ Welcome to Ember Grove ✡

Witch's Spellbook:

Details about places in discord. Any small buildings unnamed in discord, which are many, can be any commercial lot of choosing from mcdonalds to a clothing store etc.

Road 68
If you go down this road straight for about a half hour and make a turn down a barely noticeable road towards what appears to be a gated, private community, you'll find it's occupants a bit strange. Not many people venture here and those who do don't make it out. This small town was called Mills and is now overtaken by Sanguine Moon.

Road 69
This is a very long road through wooded areas and plains. After an hour's worth of travel, about 50 miles in, if you make turn down a dirt trail, you'll find the gated entrance to a very large facility where you will be told to turn back. This is where Operation Humanity can be found.

Ember Grove. The small town that truly awakens while many of its people slumber. Most stories begin at the break of dawn, but it is not the case here. Gothic bloodsuckers blend into the nightlife scene. The hounds of the night freely weave between the trees of the forest they almost call home. There are also the crafty spellcasters secretly participating in out worldly rituals. Despite how well they all seem to thrive, these things don’t simply go bump in the night carelessly. It’s all thanks to the scarred misfits of humanity taking responsibility for being the boogie men to the monsters, even as the sun sets over the horizon, welcoming the night.

Hate, love, fear, joy, and even death lie ahead in a story where so many intentions and vendettas cross paths. We know who the players are, but how will the game turn out?

The sun slowly sinks away in the far west, painting part of the sky with the warm colors signifying its departure. The night is nigh and the air chills enough to remind those of Ember Grove that winter will rear its head in the coming weeks. Today marks Friday, and to some, it is the start of a reprieve and a chance at relaxation. To others, it’s a chance to let loose and party hard. The weekend begins, and so does its many ventures. This is a night to take advantage of. The question is... Will you?

The transition from day to night was deemed beautiful by many. It often signified a slow peaceful end to a day, no matter how dull or how lively it had been. It was a visual treat to catch in the sky slowly lost its natural light. And as many saw it as an end, Alexander and many of his kind viewed it as a start.

A black Rolls-Royce Phantom was neatly parked in its reserved parking space in the closest faculty parking lot to where Alexander’s art exhibition would be held at Ember Grove University. The moment the sun gave its visual farewell to the day, a black-suited driver exited the vehicle and opened the rear passenger side door to for the man of the hour. Alexander Drake made his exit, dressed for the occasion. His eyes peered towards the sweet ending of the sunset.

“And down she goes.” He commented before started for the wing of the university that housed its library. Alexander had taken less than five steps, and two well-dressed men were at either side of him. His personal security. Their eyes scanned their surrounding, while Alexander calmly walked to where his art exhibition would be held. He called the exhibition, A Sliver of Beauty Found. This was not is first, but would be his last. Painting portraits was beginning to become mundane with each stroke of the brush. Today would mark the end of a hobby that he grew quite fond of. It had taken so long to get this one right. Several decades of trial, error, and practice.

Ambiance

Alexander hadn’t seen many people on his way to the exhibition from the faculty parking lot. He had scheduled his exhibition at a perfect time. Only those interested in the beauty of fine art would have the want to attend the event. He had given the University a hefty “donation” in order to make this event possible, and they ensured it would be nothing but perfect. The university had a designated area used for exhibitions. It was typically used by students and even some haughty professors. The space welcomed guests to a large room with portrait painting produced by yours truly. A large table was positioned in the center of the large room with several platters of the finest assorted cheeses as well as an assortment of perfectly aged wines. Alexander figured choice could serve as a theme for the portraits of those who lacked such a thing. All the painting, every single one, was of a slave. Beautifully dressed and colored, yet there was a hint of despair in their eyes. As beautiful as many of the portraits were, the faces in them held a hint of sadness if you looked long enough. It’s what inspired the name for the exhibition. A Sliver of Beauty Found……. in despair. From the large room led to a few others that held paintings of events witnessed by Alexander over the course of his near three millennia of life.

With a welcoming smile, Alexander would greet those who entered and speak to the intellectual as well as the interested. He would barter with those willing to purchase a piece. If he was going to be surrounded by humans, he preferred it to be the ones with some kind of sophistication. The brutes and feeble-minded would ignore this event and partake in the uncivilized events that occurred on a Friday night. Smooth jazz music played within the area to give off the calm sophisticated ambiance he wanted and had read about in a few art magazines he had read over.

Alexander’s eyes peered towards a painting of a beautiful young woman he had completed only weeks ago. He had loved her eyes that reminded him of a calm overcast sky. Her elegant blue dress had fit so perfectly with the background only lit by the flames of Alexander’s fireplace, allowing shadows to dance around her form and compliment her raven black hair. And though he should have felt pride for possibly one of his best works, Alexander couldn’t shake the fact that this woman had recently escaped his domain of New Paeonia.

Time: Sunset
Location: Beach
Interaction: None

Helene stood barefoot on the wet sand as the icy-cold water gently rolled over her toes while she inhaled the unmistakable smell of the sea. The sunset here was just as pretty as the first time she stepped onto this beach but it was missing something special. Her lips turned into a small frown as she thought about Boris and the promise they had made. There had been so much that had happened to her today, from getting the audition to selecting some more "appropriate" clothing. A black leather half-jacket covered her shoulders that would otherwise be exposed by the dress she wore. She loved the way it started red at the bottom and faded into a faint pink at the top, adorned with a floral pattern she found quite cute. Her hands turned into fists so tightly that they began to break her skin as a burning anger consumed her. He had promised! They may be different but it shouldn't matter! Helene fell to her knees and began to pound the sand with her iron-clenched fists "Why? Why aren't you here?!?" She cried out into the air as tears began to gently fall down her cheeks "I need you to be here..."

Her body froze as she heard another pair of footsteps just behind her. Cautiously she turned around as there he was, the only true friend she was able to make in this strange new world she found herself in "I-I wouldn't break our promise..." His said with that shy smile of his. Helene excitedly leaped to her feet and ran towards him "I knew you wou~" Just as her arms were about to wrap around him, he vanished into the air. Helene trembled as he looked down at her hands and saw nothing "No...no he was right there..." She muttered to herself. It suddenly began to feel uncomfortable in her own skin as panic began to set in as well as the hunger. The nature of herself she was so desperately trying to avoid. Boris was not going to come and it wouldn't be long before the hunger drove her mad "I...can...I can...hold on a...little longer. I..." Helene didn't want anyone to come to harm but it was the reality of her species. She was not obvious as to the consequences. It had been roughly two days since her last meal and the effects were near debilitating. The only option was to find a suitable...target...and made it quick while she still had some faculties.

Helene began to walk off the beach, retrieving her shoes that she had tossed in the sand. A growing feeling of fear took hold of her as she considered that once she begins to feed, she might not stop. All she wanted to do was sing and play her violin for people to enjoy and bring them closer together, but tonight she might end up tearing someone apart.

Josef swept up yet another student's meal crumbs as he prepared for his shift to end. Despite all the signs insisting no food or drink would be brought into the library, there was to be no end to the number of food remains left behind- empty instant noodle containers, chip wrappers, coffee cups, empty monster cans, you name it. It was fine to Josef: his job was not to question the messes presented before him, only to clean them up. Much like his other obligation in life. Working as a janitor was the last thing Josef really expected to do with his life, but it was strangely calming. The work was menial, but predictable, just the way he liked it. Simple, humble work. Perhaps if he had moved over to America with his father, Josef would have found himself working as a janitor for the rest of his life. Perhaps he would have also gotten a chance to talk to his father all these years.

But what was done was done, and there was little reason to ponder about what could have been. For now, his shift was over, and he walked into the janitorial room, dropping off his cleaning supplies and key ring for the next shift to pick up. Besides, Josef had a meeting to attend with Holy Saviors tonight; Xavier had said something about the Holy Saviors perhaps making a move on some witch coven that he had some obsession against. Then again, the leader of the Holy Saviors always had some strange obsession with witches. Back home, in Northern Macedonia, all sinners were viewed the same, whether they be a witch, vampire, or werewolf. These strange Western Christians seemed to only want witches dead, something Josef would have to bring up at a later meeting, perhaps when he had more rapport with the other members of the Holy Saviors. Perhaps he'd talk to his friend, Valentin, about the situation. At the very least the old veteran could fill him in on any supernatural elements that operated in Ember Grove.

As Josef was walking out of the library, he recognized a familiar face. Melanie? Melina? Melody? Josef honestly didn't remember her name, but he always saw her editing some photos at the library up until closing, and there was hardly a time when he saw her doing anything else. A dedicated student indeed. Josef walked up to her workstation and gently knocked on the wooden surface to get her attention.

"Library's about to close, my friend- But I'm sure you know that by now, with all the times I've had to tell you in the past week. Come on. You can be a famous photographer and go home and rest once in a while, no?"

Once again the sunset was an event unnoticed by the young lady focused on the screen of her laptop, the notion of time lost in her mind as she focused on the task ahead. Melinera had been for weeks -- maybe even months -- spending her nights at the library, either working on an essay or editing pictures, both for personal and academic use. She had always been a dedicated student, one who put all efforts into getting good grades and having a good rapport with her professors, but that became even stronger after the attack. It was the one thing keeping her sane, even if the hours went by so fast as she played with the lightning and contrast of pictures or typed away words and words about an old art movement. If only she could make time stay still for an eternity, then she would be content.

She never noticed as the small crowd of students gradually left the library as the hours flew by. She didn't hear her stomach grumbling, complaining that no food had been eaten since breakfast. And she didn't notice her ears warming up with the extended use of her earbuds, a soft jazzy rhythm coming out of them. But something seemed wrong. There was an eerie feeling in the air. She looked outside for a second, gazing at the trees right outside the library's windows. Still lost in her thoughts, she admired the orange glow illuminating the trees, flowing through the branches and leaves and creating a soft, warm feeling that soothed her nerves.

It happened more often than she'd like, the feeling of being watched, being at risk as if she was prey. Everyone had tried to convince her to go back to therapy after the attack, but she refused. She couldn't tell anyone the truth or she'd be thrown in an asylum, and therapy would do her no good if she could only lie about the event.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a voice and she jumped a little in her seat. Turning her head around she saw the janitor. She never learned his name, but she had seen him around the university several times before, and over the last few weeks he had been the one to remind her she had to go home. The man was tall and muscular, he was good-looking and had a presence that made him look confident yet it didn't make him stand out too much. In her mind, he was much too young to be a janitor, but what did she know?

"I know," she said, closing the laptop and arranging her things inside her backpack. "Thank you for being so patient with me. I just like to stay here, it's the one place I can really focus..." ...on something other than the attack, she finished in her head. "What day is today?" She thought aloud. She had a feeling she was forgetting something. She stood up and grabbed her backpack, walking to a mural on the library's wall. "Oh, yeah, this is today," she pointed at a poster. "There's an art exhibition tonight, right? I was planning on going there."

"It's Friday. And no need to thank me, just trying to save the librarians some work when they have to close up." The girl seemed a bit jumpy to Josef, but he assumed it was just a product of being lost in one's work. It wasn't like he was one for surprises either. She also seemed a bit.... out of it, but he wasn't going to point it out to her. Josef glanced at the poster the girl had pointed out. "A Sliver of Beauty", they were calling it. More like a sliver of artistic ability, as Josef put it. As far as he heard from his fellow coworkers, it was just some rich kurva patting themselves on the back for painting something. "Yeah. That art gallery's happening today."

Normally, Josef wouldn't attend these sorts of events, but thinking on it again, he might be able to catch Valentin there. The old man always liked the arts, and even if Josef didn't catch him there, he could at least unwind a bit before heading off to talk with the Holy Saviors. Their enthusiasm was appreciated, but sometimes the Saviors gave him a headache. ""I'm headed over there myself to try and catch a friend of mine there. Could walk you over with you if you wanted. If not, fine by me too."

Melinera was a bit surprised he offered to accompany her there, but then again, what did she know about the man? Why can't the janitor appreciate art? "Sure," she said with a light smile. "What is your name, if you don't mind me asking? I always see you around but I don't think I ever asked." This had all the potential to be an awkward walk with the faculty staff but she thought "why not make it pleasant?" After all, the man had always been nice enough to her. "I'm Melinera," she introduced herself before he could answer, walking out of the library and making her way down the corridor.

Hehe! ihr Nicker!
Wie seid ihr niedlich, neidliches Volk!
Aus Nibelheims Nacht naht' ich mich gern,
Neigtet ihr euch zu mir!

Das Rheingold in all its beauty, the German words echoing to a simpler if in many ways a far more vile time. While many prefer to have some sort of fast, hard hitting tunes while exercising, Valentin Florescu preferred something to calm his mind while his body was so excited. It let the man use his time better, going through all the things he had to think about and hopefully find solutions to the many problems he had. Truly, the smith machine was a wonderful purchase.

There was the little issue of the guest though. He kept thrashing, and even with the noise-cancelling headphones the rattle of the chains was quite a nuisance. The man sighed, wiping the sweat off of his brow and taking several swigs from his waterbottle. Well, might as well deal with the bastard know Valenting reasoned. Walking over to the side of the basement wherein everything was covered in plastic sheets he removed the blindfold from the fellow restrained against the table. The hunter smiled, giving a very friendly wave that belied the man’s intentions. “Hello!” he said, opening a case the contents of which the victim would most certainly be unable to see. “Now there is a slight chance you will right away tell me what I want to know for fear of what I’m going to do to you, but usually the arrogance of your kind prevents that. However even if you would willingly reveal all I need you are still a thing. Not an animal, no. You are akin to them, but with the one distinction that whereas animals are simply elements of nature acting upon instincts, you are evil. Thus, a simple death would be too simple for you, you deserve to suffer. Though you can suffer less by cooperating with me, your death will not be painless. Now, why do I tell you this? Well, I want to see the fear. I like seeing it in fact. The little twinkle of your brain trying to find a way to escape, and knowing there is none; only writhing agony awaits. I want to see the same thing you saw on your many victims, I want to be a witness to justice being done.”

Picking up a saw Valentin tested one of its teeth to make sure it was sufficiently sharp, and another to make sure it was painfully dull. Flourishing the tool, the hunter finished his monologue. “Shall we?”

It was a very long shower, but he had to make absolute sure there would not be even the slightest bit of the smell of blood upon him. He’d have to dispose of the bits of the dead creature he couldn’t sell later, he thought, remembering he had to go to that art thing now and meet with the Macedonian. Ah, well, what was a janitor good for if not cleaning up? Wrapping up the mess, he put it along with the other things he’d be carrying to his car. There would most likely be a missing persons report for the bugger on the table, and if so soon after yet another beast went missing so soon after there’d be eyebrows raised. Perhaps different knife work would have to be done, blame it on wild animals like all the werewolf attacks in the woods were. The work of a hunter couldn’t be delayed, for if it was then that meant there was a threat to innocent people not removed — a thing Valentin could not stand.

Dressing very simply in a brown tweed suit and pants with only a black silk ascot and handkerchief as flourishes he filled his SUV with the tools of both his trades, before closing it and riding on to the university. Looking at his watch it was time for his snack, and so with a thermos of tea, a simple sandwich and a little Liszt on the radio he enjoyed the ride to the university… even if he knew he’d very soon be surrounded by many pretentious pricks and the people that orbited them.

Stepping out of the car he looked more like hired muscle guarding some ethnocentric gang’s leader than a University Professor, but it was what it was. But it was what it was, and walking in the Romanian found himself surrounded by exactly what he expected. Pierced faces, hair dyed unnatural colours, tattoos signalling either somebody had daddy issues or desperately wished that they did. The guy hosting the event seemed classy enough, but what classy entailed was different across time and culture and hence this new cohort of sycophants. Still, anyone who was able to reach a point of hosting such exhibits of their own resources was clearly doing something right, and so he couldn’t really say anything bad of the Drake fellow, in fact he could only applaud him for being to stand the company his work attracted. They were interesting paintings, decent work. He doubted they’d enter the annals of history, for they were too… well, they were trying to hint rather than express. but if you were only doing art for the sake of fame then you were a person the Professor would like to punch the teeth out of.

Metaphors for the man ranged from teddy bear to a quite literal grizzly as he appeared quietly, towering from behind a duo of his students, his shadow giving him away to the couple. He ignored whatever greeting they stuttered out, smiling to them. “Well I am glad to see you! I take it your papers are going very well then, if you have time to go to these big art exhibits yes? Well, clearly then I have given you more than enough time for it, I will make sure to mark accordingly.” Whenever he found any of his students Valentin made sure to follow the same routine, thinning the flock of the younger folk present. Nevertheless Valentin tried his best to make sure the Drake fellow along with the other organizers of the event wouldn’t see what he was doing; it was after all, arguably somewhat rude. If the host would lock eyes with Valentin, then he’d raise his tea thermos in cheers feigning ignorance to any slight incurred and walk over to converse, but he hoped to avoid that for now. There were two important goals the Hunter had in mind for now; discerning who here was his quarry yet unmarked, and finding his acquaintance from the opposite side of the Balkans.

Location: Ember Grove University's Cafe
Interaction with:

There was a quaint cafe situated on the edge of Ember Grove’s university campus, where Ava found herself spending a good deal of time since her arrival in the quiet town about a week ago. The cafe itself was decorated almost like a modern cabin in an autumn forest. Dark, greyish wood lined the floors and walls, and dim lamps that perched against the ceilings created a rustic atmosphere. A fireplace crackled in an area with beanbags and other cushioned seating, spreading warmth and the smell of burnt oak through the cafe. Ava was delighted upon coming across this gem of a place - they made good coffee, and the interior design made it a little difficult for a lot of sunlight to poke through. It was easy to be sufficiently safe from the sun if you ventured a little further into the establishment.

Ava had been deeply absorbed in a novel - the second installment of an epic fantasy series that had come into popularity in recent times, about a medieval world riddled with political strife and mysterious magic. An ash-hued mug sat on the table, with a faint rosy stain against its rim, and half a latte resting inside despite having been there for a good couple of hours. Despite her apparent deep concentration, a gradual hike in volume centered around the front of the cafe was enough to force Ava to glance up. A group of students crowded the windows, murmuring and whispering about whatever it was they saw.

Outside the tall glass storefront, Ava caught a glimpse of what everyone had been so curious about. A black Rolls-Royce had pulled up in the faculty parking lot nearby, and out stepped a suave man, dressed and groomed like the rich CEO of every teenager’s self-fulfilling fanfiction. Two bodyguards followed suit shortly after he left the car, walking with a level of sophistication and glamour that felt unfamiliar to the modest town of Ember Grove. The crowd of girls that gathered to gawk traced their eyes on him like a hawk would towards their prey.

Ava folded her book, keeping an index finger between the pages she was currently reading, and picked up her now cold latte with her other hand. She sunk back into her seat and took a sip as she watched the students disperse like rats back into their corners of the cafe, as soon as the man was out of view.

“Hey Sarah,” Ava called out to the barista on duty, whose name she had learned earlier that day. “What was all that commotion about?”

Sarah whipped her head around from the espresso machine she had been cleaning, before finding that it was Ava who was speaking to her. “Oh, um, I think it’s some high profile art exhibit that’s happening on campus tonight.” She cocked her head towards the cafe’s door. “I think that rich guy’s probably a part of it.”

The edges of Ava’s lips lifted ever so slightly, enough to show confirmation of some kind, though most wouldn’t call it a smile. “Thanks, Sarah.”

Ava pondered the event for a brief moment, but her attention quickly returned to her coffee and novel. Without giving it much of a second thought, she opened her book again and returned to the fictional world between its pages.

Location: Operation Humanity’s Ember Grove facility
Time: Sunset
Interacting with: -

The light from the fluorescent beams illuminated the windowless cell that Mike had called home for the past four weeks. Without windows and with the light always on it was hard to determine what part of the day it was, in the beginning it was even hard to sleep. However after only a few days the wolf had found his routine and sleep deprivation due to constant light was no longer affecting him.

Ofcourse, the interrogators had a lot of other options to soften him up before starting their barrage of questions. Loud music, annoying noises, really bad smells or just days without anyone ever opening his cell door. Most people would go nuts in solitary confinement but not Mike. He liked his quiet moments. The white walls, the hard bed and the sanitary corner where his silent companions in the peaceful hours before the storm.

The door of the cell opened and two Operation Humanity guards came in. Mike gave them a friendly smile. “Good morning. Whith whom do I have the pleasure today?”

“Pleasure? What kind of whack job are you? You’re a prisoner, not a guest you fucking monster” Responded one of the guards as he dragged the werewolf on his feet with as much force as he could muster and start pushing him along to the interogation room.

The interrogation rooms of Operation humanity are what you expect of such rooms. Empty rooms with no windows. Just a mirror on one side and a table in the middle. Some cameras on the ceiling to record everything that would be said and done in this room.

As usual the guards placed Mike on a strong iron seat and locked him in with heavy chains. Strong enough to even keep the strongest of unleashed werewolves in their place. There would be no escape from this place but that did not matter for the elder brother. For now he was in the place he needed to be, the one place where he could find the answer to that one question; Who gave Operation Humanity the information about him being a werewolf.

After some time sitting locked in his chair alone in the room the door finally opened again. Two men entered the room. One in a standard uniform, the other seemed to wear his ceremonial piece full of decorations and smuck. His bald head, impressive mustache and imposing figure betrayed that the big boss graced the werewolf with his presence.

The interrogator placed a cellphone on the table. It was Mike’s cellphone. The screen showed dozens of messages and missed calls. All from one person. His younger brother Finn.

“Your brother Finn is in town.” Started the interrogator. “But don’t get your hopes up. Some highschool dropout will never find out where you are. No one is coming for you.”

A red 1966 Ford Mustang turned right on Danver lane and entered the town’s University Compound. The wear on the paint job, rust near the doors betrayed that the car was not the best preserved model that was on the market of this classic car, nor that the owner was a capable mechanic that had the skill to restore this classic piece of American culture to its former glory.

The blond young man behind the wheel drove his car past the main building towards the area where the dormitories were located. Slowly he drove by the buildings paying close attention to the names and numbers they were given before he finally pulled over and parked his car. The red rust bucket had survived the trip all the way down here from New York.

Finn walked towards the front door and felt the handle. The door of the building was locked. Apparently you needed a key or something to get in. Probably to keep the bad guys out or something. The young wolf let his hand slip down the pocket of his blue jeans but changed his mind as he saw two students walking towards the door through the window. All he had to do was to wait for them to open the door and then he would slip in.

Actually moving around the campus was rather easy for the young man. He just looked like a college freshman and did not stand out much. If he’d wear an Ember Grove jacket people just would assume he was some sort of jock, the kind of guy that just got in because he’s good at sports.

He made his way to the 4th floor and walked down the hall. It was rather quiet. Most students seemed to be out to town or had already traveled back to their parents for the weekend. Only from behind a few doors the noises of conversation could be heard. At the end of the hall Finn stopped before the door of room 44 and read the name tags; Brian Dudley, Michael Cooper.

For a moment the young wolf just listened but no sounds could be heard from beyond the door. Nor did any light could be seen from below the door. Finn decided to knock but the other side remained silent. He quickly looked down the hallway to check if he was the only one around and quickly grabbed his lockpicks from his pocket. It a matter of seconds the lock sprang open.

Finn closed the door behind him and put on the lights. The room was as boring as you’d expect from a college dormitory double room. On both sides was a bed placed, with two study areas below the window and two closets for clothing on the side of the door. The young wolf quickly opened up the closet on the right side and instantly recognized his Brother’s clothing. The brands and colors made him generally stand out from his male peers.

For as far as the young wolf could tell there was nothing in the room that indicated that his brother had just packed his bags and left. His books, study equipment and laptop were still in the room. It was more likely that Mike hadn't returned.

Since it was clear that Finn’s brother hadn’t been in his room for a while the next step would be to find his roommate. Luckily for Finn, the man’s desk offered a clue where this Brian Dudley would be on this night as some flyer of an art event was the centerpiece of a rather chaotic scene of books and notes. Combined with the scent of his brother’s roommate Finn should have little trouble finding him.

As Finn entered the exposition hall he could not help to wonder how much out of place he was. The room was packed with people who did their utmost best to look as classy as they could or to be as weird artsy as they could. And the young wolf? He just walked around in his sneakers, blue jeans and grey T-shirt with the logo of Wolfe’s boxing and kickboxing gym N.Y.C on the front. A rather conspicuous outfit in this world of wannabe classy people and weird artsy ones.

However this presented the young wolf with a challenge. He had no clue what this Brian dude looked like and with so many people around, he had to tap into his inner wolf powers just to pick up his scent. Something that was rather difficult to do when his out of place outfit attracted more attention than most of the painting. Finn needed something to cover his eyes.

Luckily for the young man, one of the classy dudes just placed his dark sunglasses on the table next to the wine and cheeses. Quickly Finn picked them up and put them on. Swiftly he tapped into his inner wolf hoping that no one would notice his eyes shifting in color and sniffed around.

The smell of the cheese was horrible. Why do people eat that stuff voluntarily? However distracting questions aside, Finn managed to pick up the scent of Mike’s roommate. He was standing with a friend close to some big ass dude. But before Finn could figure out which of the two students was Brian someone tapped him on the shoulder.

“Hey, those are my sunglasses! Give them back, kid!” grumped an middle aged man in an expensive suit rather annoyed.

Finn turned around and looked him in the eyes and gave him a big smile before jovally speaking. “They don’t look good on me, right? It’s too much of an old dude design to fit with my jock image.”

The young wolf quickly returned the sunglasses to its owner and just hoped that no one in the room had paid enough attention to notice that underneath the dark plastic his eyes had been yellow. It would be rather annoying if there were any hunters at the exposition. But if you have such an exciting job, why visit such a dull place like this?

Finn ignored the stream of complaints coming from the middle aged man about his rude behaviour and waved at the two students standing near that big ass dude that looked like a Russian gangster.

Finn still did not know which of the two was Brian so there was only one way to find out. He waved at the two students and spoke rather loudly “Yo Brian, didn’t know you were into this art stuff. Where is your roomie? Mike?”

Alexander learned and realized quickly that the "intellectuals" of today were very different than those he had graced his presence with a few decades ago. Back then, it wasn't art paintings, but the conducting of a symphony orchestra. All in attendance were well dressed and quiet at that time. Here and now, the guests appeared as uniquely misfitted youngster with a sprinkle of old folk trying to maintain the appropriate image for these sorts of gatherings The old vampire already knew which event he would favor whenever he chose to look back on them. Still, this exhibition meant much to Alexander. Validation of his skill and graduation from a hobby.

"Excuse me, are you Mr. Drake?" It was a question asked by a man that appeared to be in his forties. A hint of grey in his black slicked-back hair. He wore a black blazer over a clean white shirt. Alexander failed to smile right away but upturned his lips the moment he spoke.

"Yes, I am Mr. Drake. Are you finding the presentation to your liking?" Damien greeted. The man that appeared more like a vampire than himself nodded enthusiastically with a paper cup of wine in his hand.

"It's nice."

"Nice?" Alexander took a slight offense to the comment. His inquiry was sharp and swift. His smile was long gone. The man chuckled at the reaction.

"Don't bite my head off. It's actually stunning. Where did you get your models? They gave you so much to work with and you captured their emotion so well!" The man looked to the portrait of Shay Knight. "'A Sliver of Beauty Found...' I see more than a sliver in this one." It was at that moment that a young blonde man stepped into the exhibition. Alexander wasn't sure if it was the look of him or the smell of him that bothered him more. Alexander's two bodyguards that stood as still as statues within the exhibition's main room had their eyes on the werewolf but only watched. Alexander didn't favor having such a guest, but it seemed he wouldn't have to deal with him much.

"You sound like you want to take her home with you… but allow me to show you some of my other pieces within the other sections. I'd hate to take her down so soon." Alexander grinned as he led the gentleman to one of the sections connected to the main room. Within the section was a painting of a mother holding her child tightly with a blazing inferno surrounding her. This painting was a favorite of his. The woman had actually been trying to keep her child warm from the freezing cold in a temperature-controlled room. The flames were featured perfectly. It might have been what she wished was there. A genuine smile graced Alexander's face.

“Josef. Name’s Josef. ” Josef had figured that since he’d pretty much seen her at the library for a few weeks he may as well get to know her a bit. It was also a bit refreshing to talk to a “normie”. “Of course I’m always around at night. Someone’s gotta clean up the mess people make. It’s my job.” There was some way to go before they reached the gallery, so he figured he could ask her some questions. “Say.. I always see you editing photos on your laptop in the library. Could I ask what kind of photos you take?”

"Nice to meet you, Joseph. And, well, I suppose it is your job after all…," she said a bit embarrassed about her commentary before. "It depends. I take pictures for school, so it depends on what the assignment is. I was editing some pictures for a project. But I like to take pictures of… I don't know… Things that are different. Or going into the woods and photographing the trees and animals, you know?" It felt a little weird to talk about her interests with someone she had just met. "I like pictures, it's like you're… Immortalizing a little piece of life, if you know what I mean."

“Ah. Never really saw it that way. Suppose that’s why you’re studying art and I’m just a janitor.” There was little time for pursuits such as art back in Northern Macedonia. The only real art he’d really seen were the religious icons at the churches he frequented. The sound of light jazz started to get louder, interrupting his train of thought. The doors of the exhibition hall were opened, giving him a view of Valentin, who looked like he was chewing out some poor students of his. “Well, it seems like my friend is here. Gonna go talk to him. I’ll see you around.”

She didn't know what to reply after the comment he made about being just a janitor, it was an awkward position to be in. "Oh, okay. Yeah, see ya," She watched him go towards one of the university's professors for a couple of seconds before looking around. The event was certainly much more classier than she was expecting and it instantly made the girl feel like she shouldn't be there. Dressed in casual garments, the brunette felt out of place amongst all the decorations, wine and cheese. Again, her stomach growled in hunger, but this time she payed attention to it. Ignoring the paintings for a seconds, she tried to discretely approach the table, looking at all the different kinds of cheese, some of which she had never seen before. Feeling a little adventurous, she picked the strangest looking one and placed a small piece in her mouth. It was soft and almost buttery, not too salty or sharp. "Don't mind if I do," she said to no one, grabbing one of the cups and filling it with wine.

Finally the girl turned around and started to look at the paintings. They were all realistic portraits, all very well painted. She particularly liked the way the artist had done the lightning and shading, getting lost in the contrast for a second. She found however, that their eyes lacked any sort of expression. It's as if he had done paintings of dolls and not real people, and it gave her an uneasy feeling. However, they were still gorgeous. I wish one day I'll have mastered the techniques just like he did, she thought to herself.

A woman with soft curly red hair that fell just above her shoulders stepped out of a Mercedes-AMG GT that was parked out front of the university. She was derssed to the nines and anyone that saw her could tell that she came from money. Little did they know that she came from very old money that had been built up for nearly 2000 years. There was some obvious pride in this fact as she swaggered up the steps towards the art exhibition.

Maeve Brannigan had been looking forward to this event since it had been announced, having wanted to buy a new piece of art soon. She’d purchased one of Alexander Drake’s pieces in the past and wanted to jump on the opportunity to acquire one more as rumor had it this would be his last exhibition. She got a few cat calls from a group of college boys and couldn’t help the smirk that crossed her face. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t enjoy turning heads on occasions.

She entered the event and glanced around the room at all the mix of people there, finding it intriguing at who showed up to these things anymore. There was the younger crowd that seemed to not care as much at what they wore, but she commended them for showing an interest in art. Then there was the older crowd that were dressed up much like her. She seemed to be the perfect mixture as she didn’t look much older than the college students, but was dressed in a rather classy fashion.

She made her way over to the refreshments, wanting a glass of wine before she explored the different art pieces. As she did so her eyes landed on Alexander Drake himself and she took note of his cronies obviously keeping an eye on someone in particular. She took a sip of the wine as she followed their gaze to a young man who was obviously out of place. He’d obviously just offended some gentleman by wearing his sunglasses. She watched him for a moment longer as he now called out to someone. She shook her head at him as she slowly sauntered over to him.

”Careful there, you’re attracting attention of someone you may not want to attract.” She spoke up as she stopped beside him, Irish accent apparent. She nodded towards Drake’s men briefly before glancing over at the young man and taking a sip of the wine again.

As the sun cast it's last rays over the world Clarice sat with her hands on the faded black steering wheel of her green 2001 Saturn and arched her back, stretching slightly, getting her tense muscles to relax. She had changed out of her work clothes and into her normal attire of jeans and a plaid button up, but she could still feel the weight of work hanging over her. The orange and red display from the west was slowly disappearing so Clarice took a moment to enjoy the display. It helped a little. Today had been a long day at work, not much research to be done today, mostly making copies and editing dissertations on some of the studies going on at the lab. It was tedious at its very worst, but Clarice hated tedious, unimportant work.

She sighed deeply, she couldn't be too mad, she had literally asked for this. Clarice had been an intern at the main Cosmos lab in New York, doing important research and study, unlocking the mysteries of magic. She had also been under the thumb of her mother and not had a single inch of space for herself. So, even if the work was tedious or seemed unimportant, she would stick to it until she could run her own experiments at the Lab. Clarice could hardly wait for that day to come.

Clarice came into Ember grove, cruising down Danver drive, she came to a stop at the red light that separated the residential area, Clarice's home, from the University. She stared at the university and when the light turned green she put down the gas and made her turn, but instead of taking a left and heading to the apartment she was sharing with her sister to turn in for the evening, as her body was crying out for her to do, she made a right turn towards the University. It was a Friday and she was a twenty four, she was going to do something other than go to work and then go home to sleep, goddammit. That was the whole thing her sister Christy was trying to get her to do right? Experience something other that work and school for once, get out there and experience life. Clarice wanted to, she really did, but first she needed some good 'ol fashioned bean juice.

Clarice turned into a parking space of the University Cafe and rocked herself out of the old beat up Saturn. Clarice enjoyed this spot because, while it's coffee may be a bit overpriced, it had a really nice atmosphere and it was only a ten minute drive from her apartment. She opened the doors and walked to the counter, where she made an order with a nice looking barista with a name tag that read 'Sarah' for a Red Eye coffee with a double shot of espresso. If she was going to be up, she might as well be up for a while.

While she waited for her coffee to be made she leaned against the pickup counter and looked around for a place to sit. Most everywhere was taken up by groups, but there was a table that had only one occupant. Her white hair was framed perfectly around her face. She seemed to be sipping some coffee while her grey eyes wandered the pages of a book. Clarice didn't realize that she was staring until the barista tapped her arm and handed her the coffee she had ordered.

Meet new people... easy right? Clarice began in the direction of the woman and watched as she turned the page, looking like she just stepped out of a movie. Shit, not when they look like that! She steeled her nerves and continued to approach the table. The short walk felt much longer because of the nerves, but she made it there nonetheless.

"I apologize for interrupting, but would you mind if I sat here?" The even tone of her voice belied the nervousness she felt inside as she asked this beautiful woman to sit.

There seemed to be more interruptions than usual today, out of the week she had spent visiting this cafe. It was a minor inconvenience, certainly, but Ava wasn’t too annoyed. A tall woman with long, dark hair approached the table Ava was seated at, though she pretended not to notice until she spoke.

Ava’s body was kept rigid, her face still directed towards the pages of her book, allowing only her eyes to shift up to the stranger. She allowed a slightly uncomfortable pause to linger as she stared at her, as if gears were turning in her head in an attempt to understand the question, before averting her gaze to scan around the cafe. Fair enough, it seemed that many of the other seats were taken by groups of students, study groups or whatnot. Ava didn’t much want the company of others, but decided to be courteous anyway.

Her expression relaxed somewhat, “Please, go ahead.”

With that, she returned her gaze to the novel.

Clarice stood for a long moment while the woman slowly looked up at her. Clarice held the woman's intense gaze, though it made her feel about an inch tall, and waited. At first she thought this beautiful stranger was going to just stare at her until she left, but then woman's disinterested eyes scanned the cafe and seemed to come to the same conclusion that Clarice had. She looked up and for a moment Clarice thought she was simply going to say 'no'.

Her face became a little less intense and she gave the affirmative for Clarice to sit. Clarice smiled at her and placed her coffee on the table as she took the seat across from her. "Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm Clarice, by the way. It's nice to meet you, ma'am." Clarice felt her stomach drop. MA'AM?!? What are you a southern cowboy? She's gonna think you're calling her old! Clarice picked up her coffee and took a long sip to give her mouth something to do other than speak. The coffee was good, earthy and dark. It was also extremely hot. Clarice felt her eyes water as the coffee burned down her throat. It hurt something fierce, and Clarice felt like she wanted to cry out, but other than the slight wetness in her eyes, a moment of intense blinking and a quiet "ahem" accompanied by pat to her chest, you would hardly notice.

Sorrel Jäger rummaged around her closet, tossing different articles of clothing out onto her bed as she sighed in frustration. She had a date tonight with a man she’d met earlier that morning at her bakery and now she was trying to figure out what she wanted to wear. She hadn’t been on a date with anyone in a very long time and she was beginning to feel nervous about the whole thing and had even considered at one point cancelling the date. She quickly shoved that thought out of her head, however, as she had a compelling reason to go on this date. Not only was he gorgeous and seemed very sweet, she’d also scented him to possibly be a werewolf. Of course she had no idea if he was already part of a pack or not, but even if he was she figured it may be a good way to find out about the other packs in the area. If he wasn’t then maybe she could do some recruiting since her whole pack was very new. Either way she’d get something out of it on top of having fun on a date. She definitely needed some fun in her life.

She finally emerged from the closet and began looking over her options, her arms crossed over her chest. She’d already done her hair and makeup so she didn’t have to worry about that anymore thankfully. She held up a dress and looked at herself in the mirror then turned to Helmar. ”What do you think of this one?” She merely got a sigh in response. ”Oh what do you know?” She said, but tossed the dress back on the bed.

Finally, after trying on multiple outfits and running out of time, she settled on an outfit. She looked herself over once more and nodded in satisfaction. She gathered her things and made sure they were by the door and ready to go for whenever Volfango got there. She glanced at her phone, realizing that he should be there any minute and she found herself fighting with her nerves once more.

Remy had overheard that the hunters were checking out an art gallery at the University for some reason. She liked art so she had to figure out a way to get into the event herself. She figured she had to disguise so the other hunters wouldn't be mad at her.
She was great at disguises so she searched through her closet and got out her trench coat, cane, and glasses with a fake mustache.

She got on her skateboard, and started heading to the university. When she got there, she saw a bunch of old people in a bunch of weird clothes. They all look dumb she thought to herself. They all looked like penguins, she didn't understand why anyone would wear anything like that.

As she walked into the gallery she noticed a lot of people glance at her in her disguise. She thought to herself that she must be looking really good if she can turn heads like that. As she was going around she heard a lot of people talking about Alexander's drapes or something. She had no idea what they were talking about, but as she looked at the paintings she noticed none of them looked right at all and she could do better. She could add to these to make them actually better, she had her markers with her too.

Remy just needed a way to reach the paintings because they were up on the wall and much higher than she could reach. She needed a way to get a mustache on one of these portraits; it was her new life goal now. She then figured out how she could reach, she could just put the marker at the end of her cane. She had a plan, and she was going to achieve it.

Remy walked up and saw a portrait of a mother and a baby, and she knew the one that needed to be perfected with her artistic skill. She took her extendo-marker-cane thang and started to put a mustache on the mother, and drew horn and tail on the baby.

“HEY STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” A voice screamed from behind her.

Remy laughed maniacally and jumped on her skateboard “HAHAHA!” Remy was fast with her skateboard, so she got away from the protesting woman real fast and was filled with joy. She knew that she made that showcase so much better and was satisfied with her accomplishments. She bumped into Valentin’s large frame while laughing. “Oops sorry!” She exclaimed. Looking up at the man’s face, she recognized him from the headquarters. After pondering his name, she said happily, “Valley!”

The Professor watched as some runt approached the prick students he had just dealt with, the boy looking somewhat familiar. But hey, any of these kids looked familiar given they all looked the fucking same. Valentin shook his head, knowing his annoyance with some bad apples shouldn't tarnish his view of the whole student body. But damn, it was hard.

He went by to examine another painting, eventually deciding to take a good high-resolution picture of each with his phone when nobody - or at least not the host of the event - was looking. Valentin was a firm believer in pirating films, books, and videogames. So if all that couldn't be open-source for the wise individual, why couldn't some snobby art be likewise? It's not like art is actually productive, the Romanian reasoned. As he took a sip of his tea and simultaneously photographed yet another painting, something hit Valentin.

He didn't budge a millimetre.

Dr. Florescu wasn't a confrontational man, but it was quite different when someone all but forced confrontation striking him as such and while he turned very slowly thoughts of making somebody count their teeth in the gutter flowed through his mind, his lips beginning to frame the words. What he saw made him frown more in annoyance than anger, for his violent thoughts would now have to simmer down by themselves rather than be expressed. He stared at the girl for a moment or two, motionless. The hunter had heard of the little experiment and probably had seen her, but to be frank he had (for now successfully) avoided her. The thought of fighting someone who probably couldn't lift his favoured weapons and would probably be sent airborne by them was not particularly appealing. But even discounting that, she was a little girl. Fancying himself a folksy knight of sorts, Valentin would in any work with her have to more or less shield her from any harm with himself as bulwark which was a liability to say the least. That wasn't all that came to threaten his work if done with a juvenile however. When he was done with any of the supernatural regardless of if a witch, a werewolf or a vampire he left... art of them. Why just before the vampire he had sawed into paste this morning, Valentin had skinned and beheaded a witch, before forcing torn-off ribs into the eyes, nostrils, ears and mouth of the mangled head. To complete the piece, a final rib was stuck into the throat so the head could be mounted on a stump that her coven used for their meetings to let them know: the crime of their existence was known, and the sentence would be death.

But today was an even worse day to see Remy in the wild. Valentin was going to meet his Macedonian friend and it would not be good if any agents of Operation Humanity learned of the relationship. Furthermore, the girl likely wouldn't be very good at keeping operational security, and if he was known to associate with her once the nature of the youth was learned then his very own life would be in jeopardy. All of this thought went through his head in a fraction of a second, and once it was done he gently but firmly removed her from the skateboard, stepping on it to get the apparatus upright and then picking it up, while taking the elements of the "disguise" the lassie had off of her head so she wouldn't be so noticeable. He quickly followed the trail of her terrorism by the flabbergasted faces of the wealthy, and pinched the bridge of his nose. Josef was already here, while Valentin had to deal with this problem. Gripping the wrist of the girl Valentin would try to discretely lead her away, each of his sausage fingers close to the size of one of her arms. Most men disliked babies while having decent relationships with more grown kids. Valentin was the inverse, he found himself easily able to calm babies but his understanding of children was so poor it could not be mitigated by his own great many childish elements.

"Come, you want to play videogames?" the man said, deciding he'd take the girl to his office. "I've a great many."

Gwen was hanging around the cafe, drinking some water while she waited for her friends to finish their classes. They had planned to meet and discuss what they would do for their next concert, she didn't have to wait long as she spotted them. "Oi,over here!" She waved her arm to grab their attention, The group were now crowding around a single table, chatting loudly about their concert. Gwen had been using her real name, but was lying about her age. For a couple of years she told people she was in her early twenties, but in reality she was in her mid forties.

This was a major setback to being a vampire, sooner or later she would have to leave the state and start anew. Which she felt was a shame because she was growing attached to her band mates, Chatting with them about varying topics. The group talked for a bit, laughing at immature jokes. Before finally leaving the cafe, their drummer reluctantly paying their tab.

The group moved to the art exhibit in the university, The group where now loitering around wanting to waste some time before their practice session. "Eh look at knockers on this one" The bassist pointed out, pointing his finger to a painting of a woman. "You couldn't get her if you were rollin in cash" The guitarist commented laughing. Gwen joining in on laughing, "Livin with his mum, ain't gonna help him get some pussy" She giggled hoping the guitarist would like her comment.

“Deck the witch with gasoline
Light a match and watch 'em gleam
Dance until they’ve burnt to ashes
It’s always fun to play with matches.”

Noah gleefully sang as he played with a zippo lighter, slapping the top open and flicking it back closed repeatedly. Noah and two other vampires gathered deep within the woods of Ember Grove. A makeshift stake and wood pile sat withing a small clearing. Tied to the stake was warlock, and a blood-soaked gag stifled any attempts to scream. One of the other vampires, Silas, splashed a can of gasoline onto the warlock and the wood pile. Although the smell of gasoline cut through the air, Noah could still catch delightful whiffs of fear. He let out a low and sinister cackle as he turned his attention to the other witch there, one held still by the third vampire, Sierra.

“Try anything and I’ll cut your tongue out too.” Noah threatened as he waived a blood-stained knife in front of the witch’s face. The warlock had tried to use magic against them, but Noah had been clever; warlocks can’t speak their magic without a tongue. Noah used the hunting knife to lower the gag from the mouth of the witch, this one could still speak and he was going to give them one last chance to give up the information he wanted. “Just tell us what you know about Shay and we’ll kill him quick.”

“We don’t know anyone named Shay.” The witch continued to persist and after all the time spent torturing the warlock while the witch was made to watch Noah was beginning to believe them.

“Well that’s a shame isn’t it.” Noah replied grinning. He took a cigarette from his pocket, lit it and flicked it onto the woodpile. The witch in front of him screamed in absolute terror as both the wood and the warlock ignited. Noah let out his own guttural scream which slowly devolved into more sinister and mocking laughter. “You can scream all you want, no one can hear you.” He shouted over the witch’s screams, enjoying the theatrics of it all.

“Well now what? They’re useless.” Sierra asked.

“Guess we’ll just have to track down more witches until we find one who knows something useful.” Noah said, shrugging. He hadn’t really thought the first pair of witches they found would know anything about Shay but it had been fun to try, gave him something to do on a relatively quiet Friday night. Noah tried to think of a way to expedite the whole process though, finding these two had taken them while and it wasn’t as if they could smell witches they way you could with werewolves.

“Would you shut the fuck up already I’m trying to think.” Noah shouted as the witch kept screaming. He shoved the gag back over her mouth before turning his attention back to the other two vampires. “Maybe not entirely useless, we can use them to send a message, and maybe if we kill enough of them we can draw Shay out.” Noah suggested.

Tonight, Noah’s chaos was not random; he had a plan. He was going to track down Lord Drake’s missing pet even if it meant he’d have to burn through every witch in Ember Grove to do so. Shay had escaped from New Paeonia, and although the young vampire was still naive enough to think nothing could truly be a threat to a vampire, he knew that their location was supposed to be kept secret. Having a witch running around knowing exactly where they lived was a nuisance, but dragging her back and leaving her gift wrapped for Alexander would certainly earn the master’s favor. Noah and his friends had been careful not to bite either the witch or the warlock, leaving no traces that this had been done by vampires. He wanted to be sure not to ruin the surprise for their master. Now he had a new addition to his plan, every useless witch they killed would have a message for Shay. Maybe if they killed enough of them, she’d come back willingly just to make it stop. Or maybe it would be enough to draw her, or someone who knew her, out for them to find. Either way Noah was very proud of his plan, and if they didn’t succeed at least it would be fun.

Noah then took his time carving the name ‘SHAY’ into the stomach of the witch while Sierra and Silas held the creature still. “You can kill her now.” He said flippantly once he was done. There was a crack as Sierra snapped the witch’s neck and dropped her body to the ground. Noah paused for a second and licked some of the blood from his knife taking his first taste of witch’s blood. He was disappointed to find it didn’t taste any different than a regular human, there was no power he could detect in this blood. Noah plunged the knife through the witch’s heart, leaving it there for who ever found the bodies, and they stuck around just long enough to ensure that the fire didn’t spread throughout the forest, it would do them no good to burn up their message for Shay after all.
