Just for clarification, will it be down for the entire weekend and what days will you be taking it down?

Also will this result in us potentially losing stuff?

We'll resume using this thread for updates and conversation regarding site upgrades and features. If you have any questions or suggestions for @Mahz and @LegendBegins, ask them here.

If it is down, it'll just mean that you wont be able to submit a post as the site will be off line.

In regards to the time taken to write a post and how it may be turned off by the time you finish writing and click that "Post" button, I would assume you would do the right thing and back up the post anyways. Yes, Guild does have a simple save feature for 6 hour drafts, (which is good for general discussion/chit chat posts), but the autosave function has never been a designed as a feature you should wholeheartedly rely on. For RP posts you should be drafting them up on something like Google Docs anyways... at least that's what I do.

But uh, in all seriousness, I was wondering if adding some of the more helpful guides to the BBCode Cheatsheet would be possible? Or maybe even a "click here for more advanced codes" that would link to the advanced guides (like the ones Roach and tsukune have made)?

Expanding the BBCode guide is on my to-do list (you can see some of the Guild to-do list here and here). I'm probably going to add the new requested tags before updating the guide, and those are coming in the update after the upcoming one.

I do believe Mahz was working on that at one stage, so it's definitely something that can be fleshed out.

I thought so, but didn't know if it was something that was proving to be difficult or if it just got pushed to the side.

It's harder than other features, but doable. It's not something I can test easily, so Mahz would need to help with that feature.

Hey, I was thinking, maybe you could let people upload images with just the link? I think it'd b easier for some people like that. Of course, people would probably still be allowed to upload using the normal uploading way, but for people who can't upload, maybe they could have a different option too.

If you have the image link, you can just wrap the link in image tags. You don't need to import it into the Guild to use it in a post.

Although, if you're wanting to link external images to your Roleplayer Guild image albums for the sake of having them in the album, that's a separate matter.

Image links also classify as hot linking and some sites do a variety of coding protection to prevent it. Photobucket was one such site that was used years back but they changed their structure to be more money based and you can't hotlink unless you sub up.

There's also the case of images changing after a hot link, which can be seen especially with the Gnome meme that went around ages ago, or even encoding something within the image that could potentially impact your device (example with the wallpaper that crashed Android phones a few months back)

Pretty much you just always gotta be careful with hotlinking from an outside source and when it comes to uploading from a web link, there are increased security flaws.

Hey everyone.

After almost ten years in Mexico, I've finally moved back to the States .

New city, new Mahz.

Last night, I started the process of dusting off the Guild's cobwebs after about three hours of emotional evasion.

@LegendBegins has been trying to contribute to the Guild's code for years. Much like the Guild, years of neglect wasn't enough to completely lose him, so I've finally merged some of his fixes into the software. But seriously, I'm thankful and frankly in awe.

Some things I've started working on for the next few days:

- Clean up the Guild. Hide dead forums like Persistent World. Hide dead features like the Arena leaderboard. Like, why is there still a message from 22 May 2017 above the reply box announcing the autosave feature?
- Update the server. Both the database and the forum's platform are out of date. It makes the system harder to work on. This will probably result in some downtime.
- Fix the Discord link and other assorted bugs that have cropped up over the last year.

I've also wanted to put some time into thinking about the Guild's future. What's next for the Guild? A slow death? Just the same ugly taxi cab yellow clashing into the same nauseating gray over and over again until there's nobody left for it to offend?

Is it too late to do something better? How much gas is left in the tank? etc.
