Ordrin Entheys is a man of particular taste and of particular wealth.

However, for over three decades he has sought a particular item, a sealed chest lost to time itself. The contents of the chest remain unknown, but whatever inside has gotten the old merchant giddy. There are many rumors out there about what’s inside the box. Some say it is ancient gold while others lead to the more magical and mythic. However, whatever is inside remains to be seen. The frozen wastes of the north have many stories, after all. However, word has reached Ordrin that the caravan that the chest was on has not reported in to the second checkpoint after leaving the stronghold of Auonar.

Ordrin suspects the worst and has hired a team of specialists to track down the caravan and his treasure at all cost. Failure is not an option.

You are a member of that team. Usually you work alone, but this is a special occasion. You owe a great debt to Ordrin and whatever that debt is you would like it paid off. Ordrin has tasked you with this job and he expects results. He will be paying for your expenses when you return to him with treasure in hand and if you don't, well, you'd rather that not happen.

This RP is:
  • A small group RP based on staples of Dungeons & Dragons within an original, procedurally-generated setting.
  • A serialized format with loosely-woven arcs that function similar to adventure paths.
  • NOT a tabletop experience, though we would be looking at 5th Edition D&D for inspiration and to set a sense of familiarity.

To start, I will be looking for people I’m familiar with or can contend with my inconsistent RP schedule but generally be in it for the “long haul”. The writing level expectations will fall somewhere in the vein of casual if that isn’t clear, though larger posts would not be discouraged by any means. As of right now I am designed this world from scratch with suggestions and am looking for the following roles.

The Fighter, the Wizard, the Rogue, the Ranger, and the Cleric.

We will be starting in the far north, a largely contested region that has a penchant for adventurous expeditions and danger. The current presentation of the story is that you have been hired to dive into this dangerous frozen north to retrieve an item that has been stolen after a caravan was ransacked outside of the stronghold of Auonar on route to its destination in the greener, more vibrant southron kingdoms. I will be posting the character sheet within the next two hours and explaining how character determination is going to work. Generally, though, as with most of my RPs don't expect me to have advanced expectations or try to force things too much. The goal here is a classic D&D-esque adventure with no dice.

With that, I leave it to those who would want to give this a shot.

Conceptualization

At the heart of this role-play is Dungeons & Dragons, or at least, the spirit of it. You do not need to have any knowledge of D&D to be a prospective player, though it does help. There’s some interesting principles in 5th Edition that I particularly like and am trying to emulate here.

Players will apply for the role of a member of a five-man party, choosing to pick one of the above archetypes and mold it to how they best want to design their character philosophy. A close combat-focused ranger is just as viable as an archer. A clever detective is viable instead of a shifty thief for the rogue. These are all just baseline things so we can keep the party engaging, dynamic, and feel like each player has something unique within the party.

Races are something I want to keep simple. For now I would like us to keep to the basic fixtures of a budding fantasy universe with humans, dwarves, gnomes, halflings, and elves. There will be a certain amount of autonomy in deciding their cultural fixtures, but generally I work best when things don’t go too far off the left-field. Obviously other common fixtures such as goblins, orcs, and the like exist as well. Things like half-elves and half-orcs would also be fine choices I would take no issue with. The same goes for dragonborn/lizardfolk, though either would be at a disadvantage in the frozen wastes of the far north so keep that in consideration if that appeals to you on some level.

In terms of experience of respective characters, if you are familiar with D&D this would be in the 3-5 range. Relatively experienced, has enough connections and word of mouth to vouch for their adventures, but generally not going to go toe-to-toe with ogres by themselves. For those not familiar I would ask to make experienced enough characters that make sense given the opening fluff of being indebted to an influential merchant yet having enough skills to be able to perform in sticky situations. Even Aragorn needed allies. With that said the character sheet will be located beneath this post in a hider.

Salivating over playing a warrior rn....

EDIT: my idea can work as a rogue, probably doing that for party balance

Possibly going for an eldritch knight type of character.

I'm admittedly interested, but I'll have to admit that I'd rather people who can devote more time to the game than me 😅

plus it seems like you already have a couple of people interested in the fighter

Sorted out scalped an old CS the sheet design situation. Hopefully it won't be too complicated as I do know those tabled sheets hurt many people's brains, but it's what I want to do. I guess.

@Inkarnate In the CS next to Class, there is a spot that just says "Text". What is supposed to go there?

Originally I was thinking D&D Background, but I wasn't sure if that would confuse anyone.

Well, when I talked to Hokum earlier, we both thought it meant text color, so that at least clears things up for us.

That ranger slot is still open gang. I'd also accept a warlock, barbarian, and the like if someone out there has better ideas for those. Since apparently Hokum's rogue is a ranged rogue ideally another sword in front would be nice.

[COLOR=SILVER]► Battle Maneuvers
Varis has spent his long life, learning various different techniques, or Maneuvers if you will. He has learned from various Elves and Humans in the art of war, studying sever texts to increase his own knowledge of combat. This has also extended to knowledge on weapon usage, Varis is proficient at using most weapons with ranged weapons being on the weaker end for him.

Blade that Booms
Being a High Elf, Varis was born with a high magic aptitude. This lead to him learning a single spell to increase his marital prowess; Booming Blade would be that spell. Booming Blade is a cantrip that surges lightning around whatever weapon he is holding with the added effect of causing a delayed shock for the affected if they try walking after. This is a signature spell for Varis.

Scholar
150 years have given the Elf Fighter a long time to study up on the history of the world, and what has been crafted by the people that inhabit it. From Religion, to History, to Medicine, and even Investigative knowledge, Varis has expanded his mind well beyond his Elven history. This also helps him in the fact that he teaches for a class of diverse races. You can find Varis with a book in his hand during his downtime.

Shield Master
To keep this short and sweet, Varis is master in wielding his shield. He can defend even the most awkward of attacks with his shield, even completely defending from spells that normally could bypass shields. Some men think it's impossible stop a fireball with a shield, Varis would like to show otherwise.

[/cell]P E R S O N A L C H A R A C T E R

Varis was a lucky child, born on the mainland to two elven parents. Cysegr would be the place he called home. As a young elf, Varis was took a vested interest in the history of the many races, learning all he could during small adventures from his home. He came to love meeting new individuals from other races, exchanging stories and even fighting techniques. Fighting was a secondary joy for the elf as he trained with his mother, a Battlemaster in her own right. What was not expected was his affinity with the shield, using it at an elite level to defend and create openings. Varis took his studies and training seriously, never leaving a second to slack off. A hundred years would seem to fly past in the blink of an eye before he met someone that would take his the brunt of his interest.

Her name was Arianna Moon, a human barbarian who had been adventuring like many before her. Their meeting would initiate a friendly fight between the two, Varis to test his abilities and Arianna to test her blade against his 100 year experience. Love would bloom on a battlefield that day. For years the two lovers would fight, teach, and create a family together. A young girl named Veronica after Arianna's own mother. Varis was a good father, becoming attached to his child as she grew up before him, and always teaching her to use her mind over the sword. Their family would eventually feel loss as Arianna would pass away due to old age, her husband and daughter outliving her due to the elven physiology. A pain that would remain with Varis to this very day, unable to truly reconcile with losing the closest person he's ever known.

For over 30 years, Varis would teach elven children Cysegr, making a name for himself amongst his elven people. Stern and Stubborn to a fault, the man would use every opportunity to show the next generation the world they lived in. He loved it and his mind would never stop seeking knowledge in all it's forms.

F A V O R

Varis has met Ordrin before through Veronica's own dealings and misadventures. Ordrin contacted Varis quickly once he heard the news of the Caravan going missing, including Veronica who had been tasked with protecting it. Varis agreed to help Ordrin, and in return Ordrin will help him with finding Veronica. Single-minded and Focused, nothing will get in Varis' way.

@Taka I took a look at your formatting. Sorry for the delays everyone, I've been mentally unwell and creatively dead inside. But I'm back, I think, hopefully.

Age also is an educated guess since you had, like, 26 listed and I know that's not correct.
