Name: Sweinfred Haxe Burgermeister.

Race:
Sweinfred is a pink-skinned pigman, a race that hails from the Grunting Woods. He stands 163cm tall and has a coat of thin, brisley hairs all over his body. Like most other pigmen, he has no hair on his head, however, so to mimic the fashion of the affluent higher humanoids, he wears a well-groomed white wig. Pigmen are, in spite of the stereotypes of laziness, sloppiness and uncleanliness, surprisingly well-organised and dedicated in their lives. Sweinfred like many of his kin values good hygiene and the finer arts to a high degree, and he strives to live is life in a way that exemplifies that pigfolk are far from dirty and lazy.


Job: Sweinfred is the mayor of Lorenstad. As mayor, Sweinfred makes sure to govern and uphold the law of the little town, and welcomes all new inhabitants and helps them settle down.

Background: Mr. Burgermeister hails from a long lineage who first made it big in the truffle business. With the money, old great-great-grandfather Snorto Haxe sent his son, Hocksley Haxe, to the Royal Academy to study law. Hocksley later inherited the family wealth and ventured out into the wilderness to settle down with his wife Pigella and his little piglets. They founded Lorenstad, and since then, the office of mayor has passed down the generations all the way up to Sweinfred. He has like his great-grandfather studied law in Grada and has a multitude of hobbies, including collecting magehopper bugs for their manadew.

Home: Mayor Haxe lives in the house of his great-grandfather, which has since then doubled up as the town hall. It holds way too many rooms for Mayor Haxe’s family, anyway, so why not?

Background: Frode Bjørn, also known simply as Bear, is a northern-born man. Life itself was quite harsh and unforgiving in the high hells of the north, where the sun never shines and where beasts of snow roam without issue. Hunting and hard labor can appropriately describe the early life of Bjørn. Either by bad luck or certain destiny, Frode’s village was burnt down during a cultist attack. Leaving with whatever he could gather and with some others from the village, Frode led his small band of survivors down to the greener lands down south. Along the way, Frode and his merry band did various odd jobs to keep their coin and stomach filled. Once arriving at the capital of Grada, Bjørn held a discussion among his band. What should they do now? After a few solid hours of talk, it was decided that they would become soldiers of fortune and name their sellsword company as the Battle Brothers. From there, the history of the Battle Brothers would be a long and complex history of contracts and bloodshed - going from a lowly mercenary company to a highly renowned one. They would find themselves in historical events such as the Greenskin Invasion of the South, the Noble Wars of Oum, the Great Northern War, and the Holy War of the East known as Godherja.

Fast forward to the present day, Frode Bjørn has been assigned to protect the lowly village of Lorenstad as for his new contract with the Archduchess for a hefty sum of gold. Bjørn does not know the reasons for why he needs to protect such a non-important village, but he will not object to such an easy task for a big coin payout nor will his men. Bjørn might actually find it nice to take a break from such extreme bloodshred and violence that has dominated his life.

Home: Frode Bjørn lives with his brothers in arms at the military camp set up nearby the village. Some one-thousand two-hundred veterans of war also live in such a camp. Aside from the men, there is a vast inventory of arms, armor, and war goods that rest in the camp as well.

Margaret is a huge woman. She stands some 185 centimeters tall and weighs just shy of 80 kilograms. As one who lives on the road, she keeps her body in pretty good shape. As all Nords, her complexion is unusually pale. A very observant person may notice that she is somewhat more sturdy and seems a bit heavier than she claims to, or for her size should in fact be.

Perhaps her most stunning features are her eyes and hair, both an unnatural red color. Her eyes seem to glow ever so slightly in the dark like the embers of a dying fire. She keeps the hair loose and shoulder length. Since she travels a lot she isn’t used to keeping her hair perfect and thus is always a bit messy looking.

She wears a thick fur cape that covers her back and sides, regardless of the season. Under the cape are sturdy travellers' clothes littered with pockets and belts to carry her stuff. She wears a gambeson for protection on her Travels.

A commoner would think Taraah is a huge, hulking monster easily dwarfing a horse, unaware that in the scale of the dragon kin, she is nothing but a runt, even a midget, to her eternal frustration.

Her scales are a mix of orange and ash grey, about as large as a human thumbprint. The scales get finer on her head, which is covered from the top by a horned plate. Her eyes are the most saturated red, glowing with magic and with a slit pupil.

Taraah's anatomy is closer to a mammal and her wings are leathery rather than feathety, giving her great agility at the cost of brute strength and effortless gliding.

History:

Human disguise

Born in the Eisenberg range in the far North, Margaret was a member of the local nobility. As the tradition goes in the north, the firstborn is the heir to the estate, be it a girl or a boy. As such, Margaret learned what she needed to live in the north, making her a great hunter and a fairly resilient individual while also gaining the manners of nobles.

Soon though, her heart started telling her that the life of a noble wasn’t for her, to her father’s unending dismay. She spent more time out hunting and drinking in the tavern than learning how to govern the small town she was to inherit.

When her father threatened to disown her, she laughed at the threat, packed her belongings and left the town. She was lucky enough to make an acquaintance in an alchemist that visited their keep a few months back and become his student.

While alchemy certainly held a certain appeal with her, Margaret didn’t really fancy herself a scholar or an inventor and left her master’s tutelage early, only skilled in potion making and herblore. Fortunately her master was a man of reason and they parted on good terms.

As she started running out of coin, Margaret, now a sturdy woman, started lending her skills to others, becoming a mercenary. As the years went, she learned several new tricks that eventually overshadowed her alchemical roots.

After travelling with caravans for a few years, she eventually gathered enough coin to settle down somewhere quiet, where she could practice her alchemy and magic in peace.

Ashwing is one of the last dragons left in the land, the rest long gone beyond the Iron Mountains to free themselves from the nuisance called humanity. She chose to remain because her opposition decreased drastically with the exodus and she saw an opportunity to add to her hoard easily.

True to that, she razed many smaller towns and holdings, often demanding ransom for kidnapped daughters (while keeping them good company, of course) and toying with the knights that came to ‘slay’ her before sending them back with nothing but the loin cloth to cover their modesty. The golden times ended though with the rise of the current king, who assigned more competent people to leadership positions who improved defenses all over the country.

Personality:

Taraah is driven by two things: Greed for coin and the mirth of causing mischief and chaos. She is in her element when fleeing from angered guards after recovering a particularly valuable piece of art she will get paid handsomely for bringing back, or just poaching a very nice necklace for her own use.

She doesn’t shy from people, especially if they order a round of ale for her or come seeking use of or just being interested in her magic and stories. Despite being a noble dragon, social status has little pull with her - she would dress down an emperor if he was being stupid.

Whenever in her human disguise, she is a good companion to have around, ready to help with whatever is needed just as long as she gets something from it in the long run, friendships included. She is calm even when angered, and will usually punish the culprit through carefully planned humiliation rather than punching a few teeth out as long as someone doesn’t insult her personally.

She has somewhat grey morality, but unless your proposal is really lucrative, she tries to stay on the good side of the law. Her loyalty can be swayed away though, if the counter offer is good enough. She will however never go back on a promise she gave.

Halfling’s magic: Being born a halfling is a rare occurrence, as most often the whelp takes after one of the parents. Aside from having command over two kinds of magic (Fire and dark), theirs is also more powerful than that of a normal dragon.

Acquired

Fortune telling: Taraah carries magical cards with her. Aside from being able to use her other tricks through them, she can use them for telling fortunes. Her predictions are accurate, but the cards are not always easy to read and there can be a mistake in the interpretation.

Wards and charms: A very useful technique, the witch can construct wards that affect the area around them. The effect can vary, from blocking magic to shocking people around with electric bolts. She is not as skilled as a full alchemist and can only dream of building animated constructs. Charms are personalized, small wards that only affect the person wearing them.

Alchemy and potion making: A skill that makes quite the portion of her income, Taraah learned to use what nature offers and can mix various concoctions, from medicines to ales. Her salves are taking effect over time though, unlike holy items or healing magic that works instantly, however they are more potent if there is time to apply them properly.

External

Shapeshifting charm: Taraah wears a necklace that allows her to shapeshift between her human disguise, her true dragon self and anywhere in between. The necklace is a rose gold chain with an amulet made out of one of her scales and a spherical ruby set in the middle.

Equipment:

While she makes a hefty use of magic, it is not suited to all tasks. As such, Margaret carries a one and a half hand sword plated with silver. The blade has a slit in the middle which acts as a capillary to hold poison or other substances, and its guard is decorated with rubies. Finally, she has a stiletto knife in her boot as a last resort.

She carries a satchel around that contains materials and some equipment necessary for her witchcraft. The satchel has a booby trapped lock to prevent greedy hands from taking some of her possessions from under her nose.

Name: Shina
Race: Shina is a 'Firetail', a race of human-like beings that have the tails and ears similar to that of the red panda. They hail from the mystic bamboo forests of the Zen Kingdom. The Zen Kingdom was beautiful, once. Emerald green as far as the eye could see, the race lived a peaceful life, where family and honour were the most important thing. They are a fierce race but loyal to the end and will strive to do what is right always. Some firetails were known to possess special abilities that would allow them to heal wounds and speak to the natural world, but those were said to have been taken or killed during the 'war', none were said to still exist.
Job: Shina is an experienced blacksmith, known throughout Lorenstad as the best in the business. Give her a lump of iron and she'd fashion up the best handled sword you've ever seen. What most don't know is that she is a hired assassin on the side (for the right price!). She is respected throughout the town though some are still unsure of her due to her mysterious nature.
Background: Shina’s race of firetails is said to be little in number following a devastating war where outsiders came to claim their rich land and resources. Shina's family were caught in a bandit raid following the war, when their meagre homes had no protection. Her father, knowing that his daughter’s life was in danger, hid her away in their cellar. She doesn’t remember anything from that night apart from the screams of her family and smoke filling her lungs.
The local blacksmith of Lorenstad found Shina wondering into the village when she was 10, with nothing but a necklace round her neck with a green emerald. He took her in and became her guardian. Fast forward 10 years and Shina had become more than the blacksmith could ever hope for in an apprentice. He taught her everything she needed to know; not just about smithing, but about the world and her place in it. Sadly, time and health took the blacksmith’s life and now Shina runs the blacksmith’s place alone. That was when she met Gaun, an assassin who came into her workshop after some unusual weapon repairs. Curious, she asked his trade and discovered the prosperous nature of his work. Shina longed for travel and adventure so took up his offer to help with his smaller contracts, as long as they would never bring danger to her town.
Home: Shina lives int eh blacksmith’s place, in a little mill with a waterwheel. It’s nothing fancy but it suits her just fine. Her workshop below, Shina resides in the lofty one room upstairs. Along with her ‘friend’ Lapoo, a strange little creature, similar to a flying squirrel but deepest black. She is happy to be alone, though some nights she longs for companionship, but would never admit it.

Background: Rudolph Admoss, or Rudy to his friends, has been a resident of Lorenstad for a good fifty years now. Though prior to his settling down in the quiet little village, he was a travelling scholar. Wandering and scouring the lands for ancient knowledge long forgotten under the sands of time. Some would say that he was an adventurer of sorts but to Rudolph it was just field research. Dangerous field research, but field research regardless...at least in his point of view. From lush fields to acrid deserts, Icy mountains to darkest dungeons; it seemed like there was no place he wouldn't venture.

Though, once he'd amassed all the ancient text, scrolls, grimoires, and tomes to fill half a dozen ox carts to the very brim, he decided it was high time to find a place to sit down and actually begin learning all the knowledge that he had accumulated all those years. And it just so happened that he caught wind that there was an old friend of his that was just recently elected mayor of a quiet little place in the East.

Race:
A descendant of the distinct Noctaeid species, with a hint of Fae from two generations down.

Noctaeid (Noc-Tuh-Eid): One of many insectoid-humanoid species that inhabit any space they are allowed. While greatly varied, they are predominantly docile and seek simple living. While their origins are unclear, it is up to the Family they belong to for what they believe. As a Noctaeid, their faith involves the fable of Lunastrae and Her Countenance. Any Noctaeid worth their salt will be able to recall this tale, as it has been passed down to every larvae (although variants exist between families).
Of the Insect races, Noctaeid belong with those that possess flight, but have the abnormality of being active almost exclusively at night. Contrary to their nocturnal nature, they have a proclivity for any task that involves light; again, a trait that can be traced back to their core beliefs. While capable of taking to the night sky with minimal effort, most do not possess the strength to fly with more than half their body weight. Their colors and markings bear familial significance, ranging from the royal Opodi to the brutish Attaci. Lea'Nariya belongs to the notoriously mystical Barcinna.

Fae (Fae): Well-known throughout the lands as beings born of the spiritual wilds, the immortal Fae are as numerous and stylistic as nature itself. Often these folk will shun the idea of civilization, instead either gifting or pranking those that stray too far into their environments. Colloquially known as Fairies, they maintain that their source of magical power comes from deep within the earth in a mystical manner unknown to most mortal life. Due to their sporadic and chaotic motivations, it is nigh impossible to tell what is in store with any who cross paths with a Fae.

What is often a grueling and thankless job is merely a joyous hobby to support herself financially and emotionally. Due to being a flying species, Lea'Nariya is able to fulfill her duties without the need of a ladder, and has been seen practicing novice spellcasting; specifically, she's taken an interest in pyromancy. This relatively new knowledge and power has easily transitioned into her nightly lifestyle.

While the job requires her to extinguish the gas lamps with sunrise, earlier than many would dare wake up, it also fits perfectly within her nocturnal schedule and can make plenty of friends in the early evenings.

Background:
Lea'Nariya is a third generation Lorenstadite. Her grandparents were born shortly after the founding of the hamlet, their own parents acting as settlers striking out on their own as adventurous newlyweds. The faint interest of pyromancy was the all spark of success they needed, supplementing whatever odd jobs were required to get the place going and thriving.

Thanks to her parents' care and upbringing, the family business of lamplighting is a tradition started with her father, El'Wenaeo en Barcinna, who married another Noctaeid named Ossa'Ni en Ailanthi. As is tradition, Lea'Nariya took the familial name of her birth colors and markings. Among her friends and those that find her name a mouthful, she has happily accepted the nickname "Learie".

While not a boring life by any means, Learie has experienced as much as the next neighbor, which is still to say very little. She can only count on one hand the number of times she's visited the city, joining along with a farmer friend when they would take their harvest. One particular adventure she can remember is the largest festival of the year, of the century even. Emberron's Veil celebrates the return of a celestial object that takes over the starry night for three days, settling a red-lit scene that replaces twilight across all lands as a soaring sphere in a crimson coat navigates the heavens.

Anyone that knows Lea'Nariya also knows of her boldness. While she had a rather meek childhood, formative events allowed her to curate a rather rebellious young adult years, acting as the village rascal with the otherwise non-existent night scene. Paintings of her face have become something of an easter egg hunt, coming up in unexpected places such as the underside of a mip saddle or the broadside of the blacksmith's anvil.

Home:
Near the center of Lorenstad is a singular large tree. Its bark is brittle to the touch, yet its innards make for surprisingly suitable protection from the elements. The Noctaeid family who first moved here with the founding of the village designated this their home upon identifying the tree as Eiden. This species of tree is extremely rare in this part of the world, typically found in frozen wastes that used to be lush floral lands. They are known for their resistance all things elemental, natural or magical.

This living treehouse is several stories tall, with well-lit patios and stairs built in and around its impressive scale. Each "floor" is only big enough for two rooms near its base, and gradually only getting smaller as it ascends so that the top is primarily used for small and seasonal storage. The only exception to this is a large platform, invisible to eyes from the ground level as it is veiled by thick and twisted foliage. The Noctaeid family is rumored to conduct ritualistic practices up there, though no one knows for sure as it is closed to the public.

☽: While strictly not necessary, she wears garments befitting any moth person in mixed society. Her go-to wardrobe usually includes a skirt with suspenders and a button-up shirt! The frillier the clothing, the better.
☾: Has never ridden an animal in her whole life, and will settle with riding on a wagon if pressed.
☽: Possesses a penchant for collecting rare bugs that appear on her route. It is rumored that her collection is not only thorough, but very lucrative in the right collector's eyes.

Name: Minnow Dessalt
Race: Night Elf
Job: Owner of the local tavern: The Other Mine. It's been in Minnows family for generations and has a long history with the town and its locals.. as well as passerby!
Background:
Minnow inherited The Other Mine when her father finally died of old age. His death was a sorrow felt blow to the community at large and when he passed, the Dessalt family's assets were split in half, with Minnow's older sister, Herring, inheriting the Salt Mines and Company situated a ways north of the town. The Dessalt Mining company is where the family's fortune began and to be honest, what is still keeping the family in the lofts of affluence.

The Other Mine, while money making in its own right, doesn't hold much of a candle to the Mining Company. This fact is partially the reason Minnow was given the tavern instead of the mining company -- she doesn't have much business sense.

Minnow is a bright, happy, and social person, but is much too easy going for the mining scene, and so her father saw her best suited to taking over the tavern. For all its worth, she has kept the place warm and cozy, and her ear is bent to anyone who ever needs someone to talk to. If nothing else, her sunshine personality, along with its historical presence, keeps The Other Mine a nexus of Lorenstad society... and thank goodness for that.

Being a NIGHT elf, though, her business hours are 2PM to 6AM, unless of course a room is needed!

Name: Yoshina Shizue

Appearance and Race: Human, Female


Job: She hasn't had a job yet, a recent arrival to the village, Yoshina only wants to explore the city and it's surroundings. Getting a job as a mercenary or a sheriff is a possibility though.

Background:



Born of house Shizue in the Isles of the Far East, commonly called the Mist Isles by the people of this land but called Sangaku by the inhabitants there. She was born in a time of turmoil. An invasion by the Kingdom of Tianguo has left a power vacuum and a puppet ruler in place of the Red Wood Throne of Sangaku. The people are unhappy, but the might of Tianguo and their legions of soldiers was a surefire way to suppress rebellious thoughts from the islanders.

At least, until she and her brother was born. She was born 2 years after her brother's, and the lands where her family inhabited was relatively northerly and isolated from the main power centers of Sangaku. Namely the Great Cities of Yoshika and Hinoki. Her family's lands were comparatively desolate, not well populated, and filled with wild animals and untamed nature. A perfect place for young Yoshina and her subsequent brothers and sisters to frolick about and unsuspectingly gain experience in hunting and fighting wild animals.

All this was put into great use when opportunity found itself landing in their family's lands. A political fugitive, accused of posting fliers deprecating the current leader fled itself into their lands, with enforcers for the puppet king hot on his toes, house Shizue found itself in a position where they can turn in the fugitive and go on in their merry way, or perhaps take this opportunity to rise up.

Yoshina's speech to her father convinced him that rising up should be the option taken. She was impassioned, seeing the poverty and repression her people faced under the rule of Tianguo and the depravity of the Puppet King in Yoshika during her many trips there along with her parents. Once even romancing her own mother in front of his father, and only stopping once she stood up and let out an angry tirade that amused him enough to stop. The ensuing battle between his family's retinue and the enforcers would light up a multi-year military campaign that forced her to learn whatever books on military arts is available in her northerly realm. And compensating that with field experience once that's insufficient.

She also learned about the horrors of war firsthand, the woman now known as the 'Fire of Sangaku' due to her ferocity with her Naginata in combat also steadfastly advocates for peace with Tianguo once the conflict is over. Seeing blood, villages destroyed, and people violated in ways she didn't even think is possible left her an impression she couldn't shake off throughout her life.

Well, long story short, through her military genius and her brother's political maneuverings, Sangaku was unified under her family's house. With the other lords swearing fealty to her father. And she and her brother given lands and titles as a result of her victory.

She took care of the peasants in her lands first, talking with them and learning about their issues and problems firsthand. Once she is confident that the people under her lands can fend for themselves, she then consulted with her brother and father. The matter of consultation? Spreading peace. She would temporarily abandon her lands, leaving it under a council of elected villager heads that would form the basis of power once she's gone, and only regaining her titles and lands once she has returned, she will then spread peace towards all corners of the Kingdom and then? To the world.

It took some convincing of her brother and her father, with her mother only being her support. But in the end they both acquiesced. Allowing her to travel all across Sangaku, deal with issues among the villagers and townspeople she encountered with, and then beyond the lands of her isles (obviously staying clear of Tianguo, much to her dismay). She has ventured far, very, very far indeed, and now? She has arrived in this little village, 29 years old, and eager to improve whatever troubles the villagers of this... unique land she has just landed on.

Home: She has no home to speak of, just recently arriving. However, she plans on buying a small house for herself once she gets accustomed to the norms and manners of this village she just arrived in.

Name: She may be addressed as Queen Victoria Elizabeth Louise Maria Dahlia

Race: Her Majesty is a Royal Alligator with glossy black scales and a gleaming silver underbelly. Her sparkling eyes as well as the inside of her glorious mouth are a brilliant lavender color. She is on the petit side compared to her siblings, at a modest twenty or so feet long from nose to tail, and a proud six feet tall at the shoulder.

Job: As a queen, she has a domain and subjects, but most importantly, many assets. As one can imagine, it's all very tiring work taking care of her subjects and keeping track of her property, and so, she's fancied herself a nice vacation. She does love to travel and see new places, afterall.

Background: Though rude to ask a lady her age, she may tell you that she has been around for quite some time and seen and been to a great many places. When she so fancies, she loves to travel and pick up new experiences and acquaintances, as well as interesting or shiny items for her collection.

Home: She occasionally reminisces of her palace and her subjects in the Oasis of Lilly Valley. She won't say how long she's been away. Perhaps she's been on vacation for quite some time… at least relative to those less long lived.

Abilities: Royal Alligators tend to have a knack for magic. Often, they possess abilities comparable to the breath weapons of their close cousins, the dragons. Her Majesty has extensive knowledge of magics, however, the ability she was born with that she uses on a daily basis is hidden behind her pearly whites. Deep inside her maw lies a glowing swirling purple vortex which leads to a pocket dimension. This is where she keeps her prized treasures and collections. A dragon may be limited to one location to guard their hoard, but Queen Victoria does not take her gift for granted. She wanders as she pleases, accumulating wealth and treasure as she goes.

"Please… just Grey. I'm not royalty."

Somewhat pale skin, bright blue eyes, black hair with a possible glint of blue; It all looks perfectly human until you notice the sleek black horns, long silver-gray tail, and just how bright his eyes are.

Job: If you ask his "mother", she'll tell you that it's to accompany her on the road. If you ask him, he's essentially her servant. She doesn't have hands after all and can't do much on her own.

He has a handful of skill sets, but was raised to be a doctor.

Background: Dropped off on a doorstep as a baby, he was brought up fairly normally with a loving human family… until he hit puberty. When the horns and tail began to grow in at twelve years old, he found himself on the street.

Elizabeth always was a sucker for cute orphans… usually of the reptilian variety.

Home: As much as he hates to admit it, he knows that his adoptive mother really does love and adore him. He doesn't plan to leave her anytime soon.

Abilities: He has a knack for fire based magic. It always turns blue for some reason.

Name: Lady Meowlune

Race: Common black cat. She can talk, but other than that, she is just a cat.



Job: Lady is not looking for a job. She is looking for someone who will feed her regularly, scratch her belly from time to time, and provide a warm place for her to nap all day. If the times are dire and someone actually requires her to work for food and shelter, she is able to hunt rats and other pests. But she truly hates it, because, well, rodents are disgusting.

Background: While she likes to mess with people, telling them that she is an ancient Moon goddess suffering from a terrible curse, the truth is most likely much simpler - that when she was just a tiny black kitten, she was a target of a magical experiment, or perhaps a spell gone wrong. Nobody knows for sure. Lady herself definitely prefers the ancient goddess version.

Lady had lived in Grada for as long as she could remember, staying with a very nice old lady for the past few months. Miss Binklesthorpe was an ideal landlady - being old and frail she was always cold, so there was a fire burning in the fireplace all the time. She never forgot to fill Lady's bowl and her gnarled old fingers gave the best scratches, right in that sweet spot behind the ears. Sadly, Miss Binklesthorpe passed, and her son wasn't very happy about feeding the 'useless ball of fur', so he kicked Lady out.

Home: Having just arrived to the town, she is accepting home offers, ready to choose the most generous one.

Katorian- A cat-like race of people that are both agile and able to see in the dark, they mostly live in the eastren part of the world in a place called Baastlian. The Katorian’s fur and body type differ depending on what is passed on hierarchy. The Katorian have retractable claws and sharp teeth, which can be used as a weapon.

Job: D’Artagnan is an archaeologist.

Background: D’Artagnan lived with his family consisting of his mother, father, and three older brothers. As a young boy he was interested in studying the history of the world, and specifically of his own people. As an adolescent he was sent to a school in Basstliant to study and become an archeologist. During this time he and his mentor, a male Katorian named Henri, would explore ancient ruins and find artifacts to be preserved. During his adulthood he was ready to venture forth, currently finding artifacts that would be sent to museums for preservation.

Name: Calleida (kuh-LIE-duh) Fynwynlynn

Calleida is cursed to shapeshift into a random animal twice a day – twelve noon and twelve midnight. The vast majority of the time, she becomes some mundane animal, though once a month or so she’ll spend some time as a mythical beast or a humanoid race. Her “original” race/species, if she ever had one, is unknown. It is believed she was supposed to be some form of intelligent humanoid, however, because in all her forms she is capable of humanoid activities like speaking, using tools (as her form permits), abstract thought, and humanoid emotions. In addition, she can communicate with the type of animal that matches her current form. The only thing mostly constant about Calleida’s appearance is her misty gray-green eyes, present in all animal forms except those that don’t have noticeable eyes.

Job: Calleida is trying to be more responsible now that her father is aging, though she has trouble holding down a consistent job for… reasons. By day, she’s found a few places she might be paid for temporary work. Plowing fields, dusting the insides of potion bottles, what have you. By night, she may be seen performing by the wanderers’ roads, hoping to get some tips from gullible passersby who haven’t heard her tale… or perhaps those who have.

Background: Oryxtheos Fynwynlynn, the Sensational (in his heart) Sword-Swallowing Satyr, met Calleida when she was a mere puppy in a box abandoned by the roadside. The vagabond was used to traveling alone, but he figured a dog might make a nice traveling companion – and who could resist those puppy-dog eyes? He was quite surprised when the pup soon transformed into a young rhinoceros – and a snake – and, most frightful of all, a baby satyr. Oryxtheos was no stranger to mystical adventure in his younger days, though, and he decided to take on the challenge of raising this animal. Then, months later, the creature began to babble and imitate Oryxtheos’ actions, almost like a… child? Oh no.

The two continued a wandering satyr’s life for a couple years, but Oryxtheos could no longer deny that the open roads were a poor place to raise a child, much less one that could turn into a worm at a moment’s notice. Besides, his knees were getting a little old for all this wandering and traveling and seeing the sights, anyway. The small town of Lorenstad seemed as good a place as any – not too pompous or cramped or anything – and there they settled for the next seventeen years.

Though Calleida is not his daughter by blood, she picked up several of Oryxtheos’ traits: curiosity, spunk, quick wit, love of the open country, improvisation, a free spirit, a wanderlust that has led to multiple near disasters and great campfire stories. Sometimes Calleida thinks the old man is TOO strict and overprotective. After all, he tells a lot of fantastic tales about his youth, and Calleida wishes she could have some adventures of her own – or at least some normal kid adventures. But whenever she’s bullied, or she feels left out, or the stairs are just too big to climb, Oryxtheos is always there to offer the very best support he can.

Of course the topic of breaking Calleida’s curse has come up. Twice the Fynwynlynns have scraped together most of their money for some wizard who promised a miracle cure or at least some answers, only to be scammed. The possibility will always be at the back of their minds, but at this point it’s easier and healthier not to get their hopes up. Who would Calleida be without the curse, anyway?

Home: The Fynwynlynns live in a rustic little cottage on the edge of town, next to a bit of land where Oryxtheos raises chickens and grows herbs for a living. There is also a large ramshackle shed next door so Calleida can have a half-decent roof over her head when she turns into an elephant.

Birthday: Calleida’s true birthday is unknown, but her “Found Day” is celebrated on Raina 20.

Note: Calleida's transformations will be determined by RNG based on the covers of the main-series Animorphs books. In the rare case the cover features something other than an animal, Calleida will become a similar humanoid or mythical creature.
