Pâsh Ruin Bringer

Time: 2 PM
Location: Dugmaghord- Fighting Pits
Interactions: Leaf @Helo, Everyone in dugmaghord would hear his name being chanted.
Equipment:
Adamanite Plate with Absorption, Water Skin, Torches, Rations, 6 Pink Potions, 6 Large Red Potions

Pâsh grabbed another cup of alcohol and drank some, leaning his head back. After a sound of satisfaction he met Leaf’s gaze. “‘Da hygora shrimp was ‘da biggest an’ strongest kreature i have eva kilt. 'Da fing destroyed ships an orcs alike i would have ta say ‘dat it brought me 'da most glory.” He answered, reminiscing on the memory of that battle. Tthe adrenaline and rage that pulsed through his body seeing all those orcs instantly being turned into a paste of shattered bones, blood, and flesh made his heart pump with excitement for the battle.

“Wot was da greatest victory ya have attained Leaf?” Pâsh asked in return before he quickly turned his head to an orc sitting beside them “Go get ‘da food for ‘da new chief.” He demanded, which caused the orc to agree. He left and returned with a huge plater of food on a table, setting it in front of Leaf. There was a huge cooked flightless bird cooked a golden brown, decorated and seasoned with many herbs and vegetables. It was surrounded with other various meats including Ergin ribs, Jovine Boar Legs and fillet of Stripped River Shark.

Bardulf Siegfried

Time: 2:20 pm
Location: Odds and Ends
Interactions: Ismale @Th3King0fChaos, Annya @princess, Bron @GingerBoi123
Equipment: Leather armor over smallclothes, tooth necklace, warm boots, winter cloak, halberd, and

Bardulf wandered the shop, picking out his cloak and boots, having paid for them and began to practically pace the shop as he waited what felt like a half hour for any others to show. After the 6th time checking out the window, a slight sigh escaped his mouth and he gathered the attention of his friends that had made it to the shop."Okay you guys...it would seem it is indeed 'just us'. I think the others must be off doing their own fun things." He did his best to hide the slight anxiety in his voice. Was I too forward? I hope I didn't pick a bad day to do this. Do the others even wanna be here? All thoughts he shoved aside after a brief moment of doubt. It was their day off after all. They wouldn't be here if they didn't want to be, so Bardulf resolved himself and pulled out a small hand-made map.

"The idea for today is to split into two teams. I will lead one team on the Eastern path I've drawn here. Bron, if you wouldn't mind, you could lead a team on the Northern path here. Since there's four of us, that actually makes travelling quieter a lot easier. I went ahead and scouted out the area this morning..." He pauses as he's sure Annya would give him a tongue-lashing for doing something alone at the crack of dawn, and then would continue with his explanation. "...and tied a red-piece of rope onto a tree trunk here." He points to an arrow drawn at the apex of where the two "paths" meet on the topmost part of his map. He then moves his finger to the southernmost arrow. "We will start here and split up, it shouldn't take more than, say, 30 minutes to fully move along the path. The Eastern path takes slightly longer since we need to duck through some heavy trees partway through." He pauses for a moment, allowing for them to process the information he was giving and making sure that there wasn't any errant confusion before continuing.

"Finally....the more fun part. A competition! Between the two teams whoever brings back the biggest game has the 'losers' do their chores for the following week!" He let a smirk cross his lips, something he quite hardly, if ever, did. He looked to Annya for a brief moment of approval before "sealing the deal" with a clap of his hands. He rubbed them together to generate a small amount of heat between them. "The mid-way checkpoint just kind of serves as a way for us to make sure none of us are hurt, and the competition 'ends' when we come back to the starting point. I appreciate you all coming today, by the way. I've been meaning to be more social lately and this seems like a fun little thing to talk about over dinner." He smiles warmly, looking around to the group and nodding before finally concluding his little speech.

"Right...any questions? Objections? If not....I'll let Ismael and Annya decide who their 'hunter buddies' are." He says with a slightly awkward chuckle to follow.

Tanithil Malaggar

Time: Afternoon
Location: Ironhold gates
Interactions: Sivaros @GingerBoi123 and Amisra @Tae
Equipment:
Leather armor, and two backpacks.

Tanithil felt the cold wind rushing against his face as his wings continued to carry him over the city. Luckily with the cover of darkness, the natural sources of light from the city below barely illuminated him, if at all. A few scared children or sharp eyes is about all the attention he would garner. He scanned from above to see if he could possibly find Amisra, but with how high he was his vision proved to be insufficient. He only hoped he would make it to the gates before her. Calculations began wracking his mind as he thought about her travel time, how long she'd been running, if she'd take breaks, if he would be fortuitous enough to have someone stop her mid-sprint for a moment. Many factors to consider as he sped towards the gates. The light of day bled in through the hollowed-mountain face, and through its massive gates Tanithil could see the cloaked figure of Amisra running through the crowds, a dead sprint quickly becoming a more focused trot as she weaved around crowds of people making their way in and out of the city.

"At least she is trying to be discrete." He spoke softly against the whistling winds. He followed her as closely as he could without gaining attention, swooping below the top of the arch that was the main entrance. He waited until she made a break towards what he believed was the direction of the dark elf army. He gazed along the horizon and could not make out any obvious bodies at a glance, but still opted to begin his descent to stop her from going any closer. As he tucked his wings and let gravity and velocity control the major portions of his fall, he noticed another figure step deliberately in front of her. He groaned as he saw their attention was clearly on her, and she would likely cut him down where he stood if she felt it necessary. You better not... He thought to himself, as if to telepathically speak to her.

The distance between them closed rapidly, and he flipped his body so that his feet were facing the ground and his wings fanned out to slow his descent. He clapped his hands together and two dark-purple blobs of darkness formed around his legs and feet, bracing his lower body for the slight impact he would have upon reaching the ground. A hundred meters became 50, then 20, then 10, his feet hit the ground at an angle, sliding and kicking up a cloud of dust and dirt as he swung his body in between the two elves. One hand outstretched towards Amisra, the other forming a claw as his wings dissolved and crawled along his arm to form a shadowy gauntlet around his hand. His fingers became much more dangerous as the shadows crested to the tips of his digits and coming to a point, ready to strike at a moment's notice as Tanithil took notice of the situation. He would certainly look quite distinguished and likely threatening if not for the two large and bulky bags that were draped over his front and back.

"Nobody move or do anything crazy." His eyes stay locked onto the light elf, wanting to make sure he didn't make any suddenly hostile moves towards them. His mouth however, addressed his friend in a slightly aggravated tone. "Mind explaining to me what the hell you're on about? If you think you can do what I think you're trying to do, you're not only suicidal but you're nuts. Today is not the day to be the hero."

Time:2pm
Location: Desert
Interactions:@FunnyGuy Astra @13org Myra @Alivefalling Alaia
Equipment: Crossbow, outfit, Backpack with hygienic supplies, two daggers, flask, skinning knife, trapping wire, rope, small cooking pot, transmission bracelet, water purifier, disguise ring, flightless bird

"Perhaps buy yourself a faster mount. Maybe a big bird like this. Otherwise, catching up will prove futile. " Maeryn told Astra as she was departing. He patted his flightless bird who squawked unpleasantly. He felt uncertain she would actually return. He paused to look up at the sun and glance around him before deciding on the direction. However, Vrexen's words had garnered his attention. "I have nothing to prove. I have sufficient self-esteem. " He said matter-of-factly and then tugged at his reins. The bird took off forward and he proceeded to lead them. Myra and Vrexen could certainly keep up with their beast-like bodies and Alaia's flying speed was adequate enough.

He'd let the three of them converse behind him as he needed some time to internally plan and consider their moves. It had been too long before he'd been able to finally kill a human. The fact they had been allowed to exist in Avalia this long was extremely dangerous.

"I'm glad you like it, Ismael!" Annya had said and giggled. Though she had never really seen anyone eat like such a maniac.

He eats like a starved child.

She had figured Ismael out for a while, that he seemed to try to butter up to her and figure her out, but she did not mind. She felt it was her responsibility to feed and make sure her humans were in tip-top shape. So if he thought he needed to butter her up like a biscuit in order to get free food, she supposed it was his problem more than anything.

While in the shop, Annya had noted quite a few lovely outfits she'd be coming back for later as there was no need to take them hunting, especially since she was prone to buying more than one.

As Bardulf started addressing them, Annya felt a surge of pride. Aw he's come such a long way. He seems a little more sure of himself now. She then furrowed her brows as he admitted he had gone out alone. She would scold him for that later. He knew better.

She hurried over to examine the map as he addressed it. Annya also felt a surge of excitement as he explained the nature of the hunting event. Annya loved competition and she was determined to win. Not because of the threat of double chores, but simply because of the fact she loved winning. With a grin, she gave Bardulf two thumbs up, "Super bright job, Bardulf. You rocked it!"

Annya then considered who would be her best partner. She enjoyed all of their company dearly, so she decided to go based on her number one priority: safety! "Hmm..." After some thought, she felt that it was probably best that each human had an Avalian escort, meaning it was not favorable for Bardulf and Ismael to be together. " I will go with you, my intelligent Bardulf, and then my hungry Ismael can go with Bron." She took a moment to delegate the rest of the rice balls to the three of them equally. "Bron, Ismael, if either of you find yourselves in any danger that isn't worth it, please meet back here or even contact me with the transmission bracelet."

"Ooh, I excite you that much? You're such a sweetheart." They wrapped an arm around the feline woman as she nestled into the pets, but she caught the scent of someone and pushed out of their arms. Xavier, just the one they had a question for.

"You'll do all the hunting, love? Ooh, that won't do. What's your favorite meat, darling? I'll be sure to find something good for you."

"Xavier, have you been using the fan I got for you? I've been training a little with mine, but it wants for another... If you haven't, I'd take it off your hands. Of course, I can show you how to use it, as well." They did get the impression that Xavier had not taken to the fan. He seemed more focused on his sword, but you could theoretically use both...

Now, the other question was, would Orias get her a bell?

"No come?"

Myra’s question caused Astra’s brows to raise. She had heard the demon’s many times over the past few months but it was still something that got a visible reaction out of her. She approached Myra before gently rustling the hair atop her head. Astra kept up a warm smile.

“Don’t worry about me. As I said, I’ll catch up. You’ll hardly notice I’m gone.” Astra winked before turning from Myra and walking off in the opposite direction with her purchased camel by her side.

“We move, Myra. Now!” Vrexen ordered.

When the four finally set out, Vrexen tore off his cloak as it would impede his movement while traveling. The downside was…

“My nemesis…” He looked up at the pink-hued sun in the sky. "If only I could reach you…” He growled before lunging forth to keep up with Maeryn riding his flightless bird.

“INSTEAD, THIS ANGUISH I FEEL SHALL BE DELIVERED TO MY VICTIMS!!!”

Meanwhile, Astra had arrived at the Odds and Ends stall looking more relaxed than usual.

“Hello there! Is there anything you might be interested in? An outfit? Or perhaps a fine bag? Or better yet, both!” The stall owner greeted.

“Listen!” Her tone was surprisingly sharp. “I know what I want, and if I want anything else, I’ll know that too.”

“Uh..”

“Just let a girl take her time, okay? Halastra knows I have plenty of it to waste right now.”

Time: Morning
Location: Dugmaghord - The Pit
Interactions: Pâsh@Alivefalling
Weapon: Meliora a cobalt glaive with unbreaking and returning charms
Armor: Just the clothes on his back
Equipment: Lockpicking kit, small knife, 3 large red potions, and a pouch of amas.

Leaf studied Pâsh as he spoke, watched as a fire lit up the orc’s bright eyes as he spoke of battle and victory. Pâsh was not haunted by it, he was strengthened by it. This was part of what made an orc so strong, it wasn’t just being born all big and bulky, it was the way they accepted what they were and used it to their every advantage.

Now Leaf could go about spinning just about any adventure he’d gone on into a tale, most folks he knew did that sort of thing and it was what kept fireside conversation interesting. But orcs weren’t so indulgent, and Pâsh’s story was simple and to the point. Leaf emulated this.

“Today was a good victory, today I was my nature, a predator, it has been too long since I was what I was meant to be. Orc and predator, we ain’t so different, designed to shed blood, I will embrace this now.” Leaf spoke with confidence. He had once seen the image of a demon and shrank in fear, and that was not what a cat was meant to do. He was built to fight; from claws to fangs a cat was made with a purpose in mind, to take down prey and threats alike. Battle was no different than a hunt, he would embrace warfare as the orcs did and he would be a better cat for it.

An orc returned with a massive tray of food and Leaf wasted no time as he grabbed an Ergin rib and tore into it. Being around orcs was freeing, he did not have to worry about how he ate, no expectation of table manners here, they welcomed the part of him that was wild and savage.

Time: Afternoon
Location: River Fairy Kingdom - Treeant Inn
Interactions: Yuka @princess, Aiko @CitrusArms, Xavier @Potter
Armor: Adamantine Half-Plate and Steel Chain Mail (currently in his room)
Weapons: Apricus; a Mithril longsword, a steel sheild with barrier charm (currently in his room), and a steel dagger.
Mount: Cow, a black and white Oak Horse (at the stable)
Equipment: Bow and quiver of arrows. Small backpack: 1 large red potion, 3 medium blue potions, 3 medium red potions, darksight glasses, wayfinder, and fire kit. A transmission bracelet (connected to Augus) and a pouch of amas.

Of course, she’d actually want to wear a bell.

“Sure, Yuka, we’ll get you a bell later. Can’t have you jingling around the forests.” He’d have to remember to look for one next time he was out, see if she’d actually wear it. Since they were all gathered together, Orias clapped his hands together and shared a plan for the day.

“Today is Abertha, a day to celebrate sacrifices and give thanks. We owe a lot to the River Fairy Kingdom for keeping us safe these past few months. So let us try for a successful hunt and in our success, we can offer a feast for those who have been kind to us here at the inn. That is the Avalia we fight for, Xavier, one that is unified, and one that takes care of one another. I suggest we head to the southern forests, lessen our chances of heading too close to dangerous territories.” To the south were both River Port and the Sun Elf Kingdom, both remained under light elf control, which should limit their chances of running into trouble. The northern forests led to Aldrakh which made danger a more likely possibility as did the unknown of the east which held dense forests that were much harder to keep a tight patrol on.

“Though no matter where we go it is best to remain vigilant, someone is to stick with Xavier at all times, and no one goes off alone.” He added, mostly looking at Yuka who was always the wild card in any given situation. Not that she was defenseless, but out of all them, she was the most prone to being reckless.

Going outside of the city was a risk, a calculated one, but still a risk. But they couldn’t stay safe and hidden for the entirety of the war, they needed to do more than training and sparring and a small risk was the place to start.

Any objections? Anyone need anything else before we head out?”

Rue

Time: Morning
Location: North Pass
Interaction: @helo Bowyn

”I think we can use our magic and Moony could help out a bit too. Maybe… Maybe others could help?” Rue’s voice trailed off. In her mind’s eye, she pictured the winter fae village and how desperately hungry they had become. She couldn’t let him or the others down! They were counting on her. With a frown, she turned away from Bowyn. Then, she began lining up her shot for the moose.

Bowyn’s voice broke her reverie. It sounded familiar and warm, much like his old self. Rue aimed her bow at the moose. It was a large target but a good distance away. With nervous concentration, Rue pulled the string back and released her arrow. Unfortunately, it hit a squirrel who had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. A frown crossed her face and she lowered her bow. She paused and looked back at Bowyn.

”Oh no… I’m sorry.” Her voice was softer and lighter than the breeze. Now she felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment. How could she miss such a big target? ”I’ll….” Rue’s voice trailed off momentarily. If she missed again, then what? Moony glanced back at her and Rue felt embarrassment wash over her. ”...Try again.” Rue aimed her bow once more and fired the next shot, hoping against hope that she’d been more successful.

Rosaria

Time: 2pm
Location: Dugmaghord
Interactions: @13org Nuallán, @FunnyGuy Slick
Mentions: n/a

Rosaria returned Nuallán's smile with one of her own. His agreement with her statement was comforting. The closeness they’d shared was now broken and she found it lacking. She did not however, speak nor think upon it anymore while she approached Slick. His words caught her off guard. She remained impassive as he spoke. Her eyes narrowed and a flash of irritation crossed her face. The “life is cruel” card only further infuriated her when she thought of Orias. The princess didn’t need any reminder of the cruelty of life, either, nor the almost order he’d given her.

His demonstration over his element as he spoke was remarkable, and she was proud of how far he’d come along with her other humans. Nonetheless, she chose not to comment on it. When he finished speaking, her expression had become less warm and more… cold. It wasn’t enough to chill a man’s soul, but it was a sharp contrast to her usual expression, which was alarming due to her usual sweet nature.

”You don’t get to talk to me like that. Don’t do it again.” Rosaria replied simply, not elaborating, as her expression and eyes gave enough away. ”Focus on the prey.” Rosaria waved her hand and turned the three of them invisible. To each other they were visible, and while Rosaria focused, she listened for any strange noises or movements that might catch them off guard.

Time: Afternoon
Location: North Pass, Out hunting
Interactions: Rue @Potter
Armor: Leather Vest with Armor of Deflection charm, Rest of outfit minus the gloves.
Weapons: Steel Short Sword with Shift Charm transforming it into a chain knife, and a small boot knife.
Equipment: a backpack containing: 1 large red potion, 1 green potion, 3 large blue potions, 2 small blue potions, a hunting knife, a flask, small tent, blanket, waterskin, rope, fire starting kit, lightmaker, matches, cooking pot, a bar of soap, some drugs (skaula and zemak), rolling papers, pipe, a gorestria gem ring and a pouch of amas.

The first shot hit a squirrel, but the moose didn’t seem to notice and the squirrel's fall was softened by the snow. Rue seemed flustered, her cheeks flushed as she whispered an apology.

“You’ve got this.” He mouthed back as she tried again. The arrow flew, and the moose gave nothing but a grunt as the arrow pierced its heart. A quick, clean, kill. Bowyn threw an arm around Rue for a quick hug. “Still one of the best shots from the ol’ village I see. Even managed a quick snack for Moony, I’m sure he must be plenty hungry.” Bowyn released his grip and headed for the squirrel first, pausing to give a prayer of thanks for the small creature and then one for the larger animal. Then he pulled the arrow out, leaving the squirrel and assuming Moony would like to eat the small snack.

The problem was now transporting the moose, they had not come prepared to bring something this large back to North Pass, and the moose outweighed him and Rue a few times over. He wanted to take the animal back whole, doubting that Rue wanted to spend the afternoon field dressing a moose, and either way, it was going to be a daunting task. He checked the moose first, a quick jab of his finger at the eye, making sure it was dead before removing the arrow and returning both arrows to Rue.

“We got a couple of options. One, you fly off and grab Ishmael and tell him to roll out here with his big fancy cart and boar, while I stay here and make sure no other predators steal your game. Or, I make an ice toboggan, freeze up some of this snow and we half push half slide this thing back into town. Unless you’ve got another idea, open to suggestions.” He offered up the first two suggestions that came to mind.

Time: Afternoon
Location: North Pass

A giggle escaped Eris before she smirked at Kaleb and simply nodded in response to her falling into his arms. Words weren’t always needed between the two of them. She watched him enter her room, close her door, and lock it, something she was grateful for. “I couldn’t agree with you more, I think we need a nice break from them. Maybe get you to take me on a date, hmm?” She said in response, a slightly teasing tone to her voice, as she moved over to the bed and sat next to him. She sat quite close to him, grinning at him as she began idly braiding her hair. Kaleb's eyes are intimately focused on her. “I promise to make it worth your while if we do.” She winked at him playfully, wanting to get a rise out of him in some form.

And what she got was an exciting look of curiosity accompanied by a playful grin. Kaleb knew he had Eris exactly where he wanted her right now, but the idea of earning his desires was more delectable. A trading of affection? No, it was a sharing of it as the pair would enjoy every step of the way to gratification. Subtle or obvious. Deep or shallow. Their moments together had always been to their liking.

Kaleb leaned in, his face only inches from hers as his body generated a soothing warmth. Eris' eyes trailed down to his lips for the briefest of moments before they met his eyes once more, a smirk still gracing her own lips.

“Hmmm. I guess I better spoil you huh?” Kaleb spoke softly. They maintained eye contact for several seconds, silently confirming their intentions before Kaleb spoke once more to break the silence. “Come on, let me surprise you then.” He took her hand as he got up from the bed, gently leading her. A small giggle escaped Eris as she made no protest to him leading her wherever he decided he wished to go.

“To be spoiled and surprised? Now that does sound like quite the adventure.” She responded, but bid him to pause for only a moment as she grabbed her coat and put it on. Kaleb had a ring of warmth, but she hadn’t bought herself such a luxury and needed to bundle up a little extra in order to stay warm in the frigid climate of North Pass. She also slipped on some gloves before moving back to his side, her hand finding his as their fingers laced together. “Lead away, darling. You have me quite intrigued by whatever you’re planning within that brilliant mind.”

“You’ll see.”

The two departed Eris’ room and set out to peruse the shops. It was something that had become a bit of a pastime for the two. Besides the promise of blistering cold weather, scenic pseudo-eastern architecture, and warm savory meals, North Pass had little to offer compared to hubs such as Roshmi City or River Port. And so, indulging in delightful treats while roaming from shop to shop with great company was something fun the pair both grew to love. Visiting so many places always allowed for the chance to connect with the locals. Eris especially enjoyed getting some of the delicious treats. Her favorite was the rice cakes and so it was only natural she insisted they get some once they reached the shopping area.

It was this afternoon, however, when he used this activity as a way for Kaleb to throw Eris off the trail for what he truly had in mind. The woman had called his mind brilliant, yet if that were true, Kaleb would have to admit Eris’ was nothing short of blinding. He retained a smug confident expression as they walked side by side, feeling his surprise was safely guarded. However, for Eris, something about his expression keyed her onto the fact that he truly had something else planned. She didn’t say anything, however, as she didn’t want him thinking she was going to catch on to him. Kaleb was quite prideful and if she could bring him joy even just by pretending not to realize he was trying to throw her off, then she would do so. She did briefly wonder what the rest of the group were up to and how that hunt was going. There were plenty of dangerous things within the wilds here in North Pass and she wondered if the hunting group would come across any of them.

Before she realized it, they were standing at the start of a snow-sprinkled cobblestone path leading out of the city. It was here where Kaleb stopped in his tracks, eyeing the path that appeared to span up into the snow-covered hills.

“Ever take this path?” Kaleb asked. Up close the appearance of fresh boot tracks accompanied by the indication of something being dragged was visible in the snow.

Eris took a moment to look down the path. She examined her surroundings, taking in clues and having a feeling she knew what he was now up to, but she still refused to let on. Instead, she would simply answer his question.

“I can’t honestly say I have. I haven’t spent too much time exploring the paths that lead outside of the town.” She said with a small laugh, not entirely a lie. She preferred to stay within the safety of the town as she didn’t wish to find herself in any sort of trouble. While she was quite powerful with magic, yes, she didn’t like having to fight things if she didn’t have to and so she kept herself out of as many situations that could lead to a fight as she could.

“Then I’ll continue to be your guide. Come.” He said as he stepped onto the path with a rare smile on his face. She gave him a suspicious look but still smiled as she followed him down the path.

“How often have you come out here?” She asked him after a few moments of silence. Kaleb briefly peered at Eris from the corners of his eyes a shrugged nonchalantly.

“Botan sent me down this thing once or twice…” He sighed at the thought of the crazy panda man’s training regiment, indicating not having great memories of the path they now walked. “But..” He chuckled as he looked her way again, slightly squeezing her hand. “I’ll make sure you enjoy it.” He promised without having to utter the word.

A small laugh escaped Eris as Kaleb mentioned Botan and the not-so-fond way he spoke of the man, but Eris knew that the time he’d spent with the man had been very beneficial. She was quite glad that she’d suggested he seek Botan out to train. He’d been a good fit for Kaleb, even if Kaleb didn’t think so. “Any time I get to spend with you I can honestly say I always enjoy it so I have no doubts that you’ll make today’s adventure splendid.” She said as she gave him a soft smile and squeezed his hand back.

While continuing along the path, Kaleb suddenly nodded in a direction off of the path, following the tracks left behind by whoever had been ahead of the pair.

“This way. Almost there, trust me.” Eris couldn’t help the internal laugh she had when he told her to trust him. Little did he know he was maybe the only one she trusted and that was quite the big deal. She didn’t even have a chance to comment, however, as they pushed through some shrubbery and found a canine demihuman North Pass local standing at the crest of a steep snow-covered hill with… a sled?

The demihuman nodded with a smile before he and Kaleb reached out toward each other, exchanging amas with a tight handshake.

“The other half as promised.”

“Just keep her in one piece for me.” The demihuman was referring to the sled he arranged to have Kaleb borrow in between the shop perusing.

“Of course!” Kaleb stepped away from the demihuman who was already making his leave.

Eris was quite surprised when she felt her face light up some. She looked to Kaleb whose eyes met hers.

“Oh I haven’t been sledding since I was a little girl!” She said joyfully, having fond memories of going sledding with her mother. She leaned over and kissed Kaleb’s cheek, smiling warmly at him. “Thank you, Kaleb, this is a wonderful surprise.”

“I knew you'd like it.” Kaleb was nearly grinning from ear to ear before quickly mocking a pout. “But is that all I get?” Eris looked at him for a moment before a mischievous grin crossed her features.

“My, my, is someone a bit greedy? Perhaps I planned on giving you more as our little adventure progressed. Reward you for your patience, if you will.” She giggled as she booped his nose before turning towards the sled. She walked towards it, her hips swaying some before she glanced over her shoulder. “Am I going to have to ride down this big hill all alone, or are you going to join me?” She asked him playfully, noticing the flash of excitement on Kaleb’s face. She successfully piqued his interest in what she had in store even more now. It was quite the skill considering how hard-to-please the young man seemed to be with others.

“As if you have to ask after what you just did there.” Kaleb adjusted his equipment, more specifically, his staff that might get in the way when sitting. Once set, he followed Eris to the sled, allowing her to take a seat while he held onto the rear of it. He leaned forward as close as he could without pushing the sled forward so he could speak softly. “Ready?” Eris glanced over her shoulder at Kaleb with a grin, feeling as mischievous as ever.

“Are you?” She asked him as she leaned back into him, pressing herself in closer to him than was actually necessary. The warmth of his body against hers was actually rather pleasant and she was almost able to forget about the cold completely for a moment. The breath of his quiet laughter tickled her cheek just before the sled slid forward.

With as much grace as Kaleb could muster, he seated himself right behind Eris before they picked up too much speed. It was once he was securely seated with his arms around Eris that the moment felt… completely yet pleasantly normal. No war. No magic. The only fantastical occurrence was how pure and cherished this moment was. As they slid down the steep hill, kicking up the snow behind them, laughing with joy as they went further and further along, the moment only grew richer.

As sensational as the moment was, it may be that very element that makes this tale all the more tragic…

“That was…” Kaleb couldn’t find the words as the sled began to slow to a halt. “Blissful?” Eris offered as she looked at him with a joyous grin. Joy. Something Eris hadn't truly experienced in a very long time. To live in this moment would be something she had a feeling she could easily give up everything for.

She found herself moving to get up and as she did she found herself now facing Kaleb. She paused and slowly began leaning in closer to Kaleb once again, their faces inches apart. She was getting lost in the moment, but the snap of a branch brought her back to reality. Alarm crossed her face and she was on her feet in seconds. Her eyes began scanning the trees before a deer ran out and past them. A nervous breath escaped her and she let out a laugh as she turned back to look at Kaleb. “For a second there I thought we might be in trouble.”

“Out here? I doubt it. Annya picked this- ERIS!” He shoved her just in time to avoid a sphere of darkness. At the same moment, Kaleb used his shove as a means to push himself away to narrowly dodge the projectile. Eris let out a gasp as she fell, hitting the snow-covered ground just in time to watch that dark orb hit a tree. Alarm once again crossed her features as she quickly glanced at Kaleb to make sure he was unharmed. She quickly moved towards him, throwing a shield of light around them to obscure them from view for a moment. “Shit.” Kaleb almost appeared shaken.

“I’m unsure of how the fuck they found us other than someone possibly tipping them off, but either way we need to go. Please tell me you’re unharmed.” There was genuine concern and fear in her eyes as she looked at him. She had no clue how many there were just yet, but if she knew dark elves then there likely would be more than just the two of them could handle. And her assumption was made true as the shadows of several trees shifted unnaturally.

“I-I’m…” His eyes were still affixed to the dark orb’s point of origin, and though it was very brief, this was the first time in a long time that Kaleb felt unsure of himself. He had dodged the magical attack, but reality had mercilessly hit him square in the face. However, instead of leaving him shaken, it just made him a tad bit pissed off. “I’m fine!“ He forced the answer out while his palms emitted an orange glow. “We can take th-” Kaleb stopped speaking the moment they caught sight of at least five dark elves bounding up bearing weapons and magic. “I guess you’re right again... Come on, this way!” The two started running but not back up the hill they came down.

However, running would not be enough for Kaleb and Eris, as their pursuers were a trained team of Malthemoor magus agents. There were eight of them, and typically that was enough for these dark elves adept in both magical ability and ranger skills. They were by no means front linemen but running into them spelled either death or capture. The high optics of the war have forced this particular group of agents to venture with about the same amount of equipment a common hunter might or even less to draw less attention than an identifiable dark elf normally would.

Running in the snow wasn’t an easy feat and Eris knew they couldn’t run forever. She needed to figure out how to get them out of there safely. She could use her magic to make them invisible, but that would do nothing for the tracks they would leave in the snow. The same went for creating illusions of them to try and split the dark elves up. They certainly would figure out quickly which were the illusions and which weren’t when the tracks started disappearing. She could portal them out, but she would need a moment to be able to stop and focus on that. She needed a way to stall them for long enough to do so. Wait! That was it! “Kaleb! I need you to-” She was cut off as immense pain shot through her left shoulder and she let out a scream as she stumbled and fell.

“Eris!” He called as he skidded to a stop so he could address her injury. “What do you need me to do?!”

Eris looked down at the dark magic-imbued arrow, feeling like the world was spinning some. Kaleb wanted to help her but there was a far more pressing task.

”T-the trees, Kaleb! Behind us! Burn them!” Was all she could manage to say as she got herself back to her feet. Kaleb wished he could do more for her wound but he’d just need to channel that frustration into his magic. To burn the trees in this majestic wilderness that served as a source of food, shelter, and the identity of this North Pass’ woodlands, was a hard thing to consider sacrificing…

“Fuck ‘em!” Kaleb thrust his palms forward firing a barrage of fireballs at not just the trees, but everything behind them. Kaleb inhaled deeply as he shut his hands while his eyes scanned the scattered flames dancing on the trees and then after the brief pause, he opened his hands with a grunt. Reacting to his actions the already present flames seem to burst with a flash of blue, spreading even more across the bushes and trees. As for Eris, the pain in her shoulder was an annoying distraction, but she tried to push it aside as she started focusing her magic to try and open a portal.

Another magic-imbued arrow flew threw the flames but hit the snow-covered ground. The potency of the darkness was weaker on this arrow but its proximity was too close for comfort. Kaleb positioned himself in front of Eris as he drew his bo staff as streaks of dark magic were being used to bat out some of the flames. Kaleb could have expended more flames, but he had learned early on that it was easier to manipulate what was already present than to create something new. Spread, boys. Burn this whole motherfucker down.

Opening this portal was proving to be far more difficult than it normally was for Eris and it was frustrating her. Perhaps it was the stress of the situation or the injury, but this one wasn’t as easy to open as the one she threw Bowyn through. She watched as another arrow came flying through and she let out a frustrated scream, letting her emotions get the better of her. Apparently, that’s what she needed, though, as the portal opened. She immediately knew she wouldn’t be able to hold it for long and she felt her heart sink as she knew what she was going to have to do.

“Kaleb, you need to go. I’ll distract them, but you need to take this portal to safety please.” She said to him, implying that she wasn’t going to follow. He barely looked over his shoulder at her before returning his sights back toward the approaching dark elves.

“Tch. Not gonna happen. Get in there! We’re leaving together!” There was a sudden spread of pitch blackness beyond the flames. Eris had spun on him, ready to snap at him, but then she saw what was beyond the flames. They didn’t have time, she needed to do something to get him through that portal fast. She reached out and grabbed his hand, pulling him towards her as if she were heading towards the portal too. She paused, however, and turned to look at him. Before he could say anything, her lips met his in a kiss that would rattle the stars. When she pulled away there were tears in her eyes as she looked at him.

“I will find you again, Kaleb, whether in this life or the next.” With those words, Eris shoved him hard through the portal. By the time he even realized what Eris had done, it was too late.

“Eris, please!” Like the maw of a colossal beast, the portal consumed him before snapping shut. The moment he hit the smooth stone ground he whipped around only to find an empty wall of a dimly lit alley in place of Eris and the chaos she had been in the midst of.

“Eris… Come on, stop playing around. Come through this… fucking wall. Please.” The realization was setting in for him, but he didn't want to accept it. For he feared if he did, the guilt might destroy him.

“I don’t think you are funny. I think you are acting like a degenerate.” Barboda was used to Helio’s antics by now. He knew deep down he was a good guy but when he drank he tended to get out of hand. “I think the reputation Nym said you had is being tarnished by the way you are handling yourself now “prince” Helio.” The crocodile demihuman and the crowd gathered around the two now cheering them on to fight. Barboda was not one to get into unnecessary fights or cause issues unless there was something to gain. “As much as I’d like to punch you in the mouth right now. I have decided against it. I am sure we have better things to be doing, and speaking of which I suggest we go over to Nym and ask what our plans are for the day.”

Amisra weaved through the busier parts of Ironhold, hood up as to not panic too many, but she certainly still stood out from her height alone. She was relieved as she got closer to the gate and there were far less people to wade through. She began picking up speed again, but she quickly came to a halt as someone now blocked her path. In an instant, her dual short swords were in her hands and she was poised to attack if needed. Her eyes narrowed at the light elf as a smirk spread across my face. ”Someone like me? Am I really more curious of a sight than the walking, talking dick right in front of me?” She quipped right back at him, a cockiness of her own showing. ”Unfortunately though, I don’t have time to squabble with you, Candlestick. I’ve got a dark elven bitch to dispose of so if you would kindly get the fuck out of my way-” She was cut off and forced to come to a halt as Tanithil landed in front of her.

She took in the sight of her friend, the bags, and she knew he wasn’t about to let her go. She almost growled in irritation as she glared at her friend, but kept an eye on the light elf as she didn’t entirely trust him. ”Well, my dearest Tanithil, I was going to take the opportunity provided to us to attempt to make that bitch of a woman pay for what she did to us. If you would kindly move, I’d greatly appreciate it.” She said, a deadly calm to her voice now as she gripped her swords tightly. She didn’t want to fight her friend and would avoid it at all costs, but she wasn’t going to give up easily. She wanted to watch the general suffer.

Kaleb slammed his palms against the wall in front of him. He knew the wall wouldn’t simply open up like a magical door and return him to Eris and the burning wilds of North Pass but it was difficult for him to just leave from the spot he felt planted in. Even as he hung his head in defeat, he remained, hoping and waiting for another rift. Fuck… reality had begun to set in but snapped at it, committing to his denial further.

“Fuck… Fuck! It can’t happen like this! ERIS! ERIS! Why did you do this?!” Kaleb pounded his fist against the stone wall, this time creating small flames on impact. “Why couldn’t I…” Kaleb sighed deeply as he buried his face in his hands. He wondered what his four months of training even amounted to if he wasn’t even capable of protecting himself and Eris when it counted. Now, he stood wherever this dark and hot place he had been sent to, wondering what her fate was. He wiped his hands down from his face, revealing his expression of distraught.

“I will find you again, Kaleb, whether in this life or the next.”

“Why did she say it like that?” He could have answered it himself… he just didn’t want to feel the pain that came with that answer. He attempted to shake the thought away but he couldn’t stop hearing her last words to him. He placed his back against the wall and slid down to the alley floor. “She’ll come through any minute now, and then she can tell me what this place is… Yeah, then-”

“Ye sure enjoy speakin’ ye self, elf. Perhaps Sun Elf Kingdom sent their worst to us.” Two black-bearded dwarves strolled through the alley with a hovering cart filled with wooden crates.

“Typical. Of course, they would send a milk drinker with shiny arm’r.”

“But brother… aren’t they all just milk drinkers with shiny arm’r?” The two dwarves burst into gut-wrenching laughter. Kaleb shot the two a look of distaste. Four months ago, he might have exploded both figuratively and magically (if that makes sense). With what he was going through, he felt he might just do it to find some sort of release to take his anguish out on.

“And aren’t you all just stubborn height-envy dudes that overcompensate with your facial hair?” Kaleb dished back as he stood up, knowing his words wouldn’t be well received. It definitely stopped the bout of laughter between the pair. They looked at Kaleb with raised brows. “Before you ask. I didn’t stutter.”

“Oh, we right heard ye, elf. And what, ye standin’ up to prove your own words?”

“Why don’t ye go back to speakin’ to ye self and fussin’ wit that wall eh?” The dwarf reached for a hammer on his belt. “Don’t forget where ye are! This be Ironhold, and no one in these walls will miss a milk-drinkin’ elf.” Kaleb was locking eyes with him before he broke contact to look at his surroundings (which didn’t amount to much due to being in an alley).

“Did you just say Ironhold?”

“Yeah he did. And me brother didn’t stu’er either.”

“Ye lost?”

“No, he’s a fool. How could one not know where we are? The greatest city to be built in all of Avalia. Home to the greatest people of Avalia.”

“Right. They really did send their worse… Come on brother, I think we might have broken this one.” The other dwarf shrugged as the two continued on their way

“Guess so. Or maybe he’s be’er now that he quit talkin’. Da always said the less an elf spoke, the be’er.”

“Be’er for them or us?” The two broke into another hearty laugh until they exited the alley, leaving Kaleb staring blankly with his mouth agape.

Ironhold…

“The portals depend on many upon many factors. Distance, focus, emotional stability, whether or not it’s here in Avalia… The more of those things in effect, the more strenuous the ability is… Oh and the more strenuous, the more unpredictable it can be as well, and then with unpredictability, it makes the strain worse. See, factors upon factors.”

“No.” Kaleb quietly denied it, but the memory of her brought on her last words once more.

“I will find you again, Kaleb, whether in this life or the next.”

“Fuck this!” He yelled before grabbing his staff from off the ground and storming towards the alley exit with it resting on his shoulder. For a moment, he stopped to look back to where he had appeared through the portal. He was afraid if he left, he’d be abandoning an exhausted or hurt Eris that might come through any moment now. But if she can’t even form a rift to here, then she needs help out there. He balled up his free hand and briefly squeezed before continuing ahead.

Stepping out into one of the main walkways, Kaleb was graced with the sight of Ironhold’s city. Sure he was serious about trying to find a way out of this place, but he couldn’t help but stop and stare at the intricacies of the city. For one, it was built within a cavern. The city would have been too dark to navigate if it weren’t for the bright molten metal and stone coursing through the city like artistic waterways. It appeared as if the wrong step meant you were a goner and that vegetation was not much of a consideration. A true mining city… A true mining city he was definitely lost in.

Myra quietly watched, still a bit confused as Astra approached her, gently rustling the hair atop her head, making Myra give a faint smile as she did so. She was still confused as to why Astra had to leave, but since Astra said she would catch up to them in no time, Myra chose to believe her, nodding her head to Astra as she finished, giving a step forward and giving her a quick, small hug before walking back once again, almost as if she was still a bit wary of Astra but still wanted to say a proper goodbye to her.

Vrexen's words, ordering Myra to move and interrupting her farewell were met an annoyed expression and a sharp hiss from Myra. Not only Astra leaving was something that was a bit sad, since Myra was closer to her than she was from Vrexen, but it also made Myra a bit concerned due to Vrexen's unstable behavior. Besides, the sun, which was still strong in the sky, was also taking it's toll on Myra's patience.

After giving one last look and waving to Astra, who was already leaving, Myra adjusted her cloak, so it would cover as much of her skin as she could, protecting it from the sun, before she went after Vrexen, Maeryn and Alaia, catching up with Vrexen and even Maeryn's flightless bird without much issue as they made their way to Dugmaghord.

Despite Slick's rather... 'coarse' behavior, Nuallán didn't see many problems with his company. Especially if Rosaria herself seemed to be fine with it, but the very second his words started sounding a bit more... rougher than they had until now, Nuallán immediately looked towards him. No word was said by Nuallán and no action was taken, other than a cold stare... A clear warning.

Unfortunately, it seems like Slick was too busy speaking to notice Nuallán's silent warning and instead, proceeded to continue. Going as far as to even giving Rosaria an order. Such impudence and audacity was where the line was drawn for Nuallán. For him, he would have already made Slick kneel and ask for forgiveness, but knowing his mistress, Nuallán simply gave a step towards Slick, making his icy cold expression even more evident. He had already tolerated previous offenses made by other humans, such as the ones who dared to point a weapon to Rosaria... It wouldn't be now that he would lose control and act on impulse nor it would be due to a single human forgetting his place.

Rosaria's words were cold and sharp as a knife as she warned Slick before she turned them invisible.

"Remember... One word is all my lady needs to say for me to act... Do not repeat the same mistake again... Slick." Nuallán said, his voice but a whisper as Rosaria started making them invisible.

"Do not mistake my lady's kindness for weakness." He finished as their bodies were enveloped by Rosaria's light magic.

Slick remained stoic, not wanting to kindle any flames of tension any which way. It was obvious his words struck a nerve in both elves. “No need to beat a dead horse, Nuallán. I hear ya. You'll gun me down if I disrespec' your lady. Simple solution to my rough words against a soft heart. No more talkin’ from ol’ Slick. Best to keep quiet anyway… It’ll give us an edge.” Slick spoke as he crouched down while holding his crossbow at the low ready in a spot that was good for surveying an open area containing a pond. The outlaw was tempted to say something that would make both elves tremble harder than the tail of a spooked rattler, but he let his last comment be the last minor dig at the entire reason for the tension at hand.

Come on, Slick. You can’t go hurtin’ feelings in a whole wide world out to get ya! Aurora wouldn’t be too happy if her princess returned with a twisted up face.

The trio being invisible to everything but each other was something Slick found mighty nifty. He would have nearly sold his soul to be able to mask himself from both sight and smell back on the frontier. Avalia truly was a grand gift of an experience at times. Sure, there were ways to mask yourself in the old west but it always meant covering yourself with something unpleasant.

He aimed down his sights at something shifting in the brush. Most likely a creature attempting to get a drink from the pond. Hell, he might do the same after putting the thing down. He took aim, and with a shallow exhale, he fired as hit breached the treeline.

Ismael laughed as Bron spoke about his mood as Ismael said with a jovial tone, "I am quite happy today actually, Billy, the boar I got, he finally is starting to listen to my commands! So I am actually very happy". Ismael talked with a smile when he was happy, so it made it very easy to tell when he was happy.

As the talking started for the hunt, Ismael listened intently as the speaking began, taking note of the competition that would be taking place. The paths were simple enough however they could pose danger if an enemy were to strike as it have multiple points of contact for an ambush. Yet that was a worry that was second to some of the more main issues, it seemed that Ismael was to go with the hunt master himself Bron!

Ismael looked to Bron and gave a slight nudge to the arm as he said slightly jovially, "Geuss we can see if that experience you have can beat my creation".

Ismael said this jokingly in the fact that he knew Bron was going to be a formidable opponent when it comes to catching game, but that never meant Ismael was going to give up. Ismael di make sure to study the map carefully to make sure he knew where the chokes in the trail would possibly come and the best places for ambushes. As they were in a very remote location, it could be possible that the Dark Elves have now at least been spreading out to the more remote regions to find lone Humans fleeing in a desperate attempt to escape possibly fates worst than death.
