Despite the fact the two races are identical physically, their cultures have been at war for generations. Her parents decided it would be safest for her to be raised by her father among the Green Martians due to their peaceful culture of intellectualism. It was there that she spent her formative years learning to control her powers and studying subjects including philosophy and politics. During her annual pilgrimage to visit her mother, they were discovered and nearly captured. Her mixed parentage was publicly announced to both races. Both her parents were labelled blood traitors and she was hunted by the White Martian authorities. In a final act of sacrifice, her parents decided to send her to Earth in hopes she would be able to live a free life even if she had to disguise herself to blend in. In a final message on the ship they launched, they warned her never to return to Mars. On Earth, she assumed the identity of Jemma Monroe and assimilated into American life relatively easily. She found the culture to be, in many ways, like an amalgam of the two cultures on Mars. She chose Metropolis due to the growing number of Kryptonians calling it home and hoped that would make it easier for another alien to settle in. Jemma quickly found work in an auto shop thanks to her powerset and advanced technical knowledge. She had intended to lay low, but when the shop was robbed while she was working late, she realized she had a duty to act and protect those who couldn’t protect themselves. By the time the police showed up, she had the crook waiting for them like a Christmas present wrapped in chains. Jemma spent a long time ruminating on the events of that night, and it was clear to her that she couldn’t just sit on her hands anymore. This world and these people needed defending, and she had the power to do just that. After all, justice was a key tenet of her upbringing on Mars. She took on the alias “Spectre” after a criminal she apprehended fearfully described her like a ghost in an interview. She stepped into the limelight taking on bigger, badder villains after working her way up from petty crime. The only problem? She lacks the context to know when she has crossed the line at times. She fights with the ruthlessness of a White Martian and the strategic skill of a Green Martian, a dangerous combination that could well lead her to become the antithesis of Earth’s heroes under the right influence. P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) I’ll come right out and say it: DC did the Martians dirty with how unimaginatively they’ve developed the characters, species, and history in many of their arcs. That said, I’m drawing a good deal of inspiration from Young Justice. I wrote J’mma M’nro to explore the limits of power while grappling with childhood trauma and the warped sense of responsibility that develops from it. She must learn where to draw the line, and that will depend heavily on the influence of those around her. Without the guidance of her father, she feels lost and adrift. If a young hero group emerged, she would be one of the first to join as she is seeking mentorship and friends on Earth. I've been working with @King Kindred on the relationship between Seraph and Spectre. I’d love to eventually explore J’mma’s homecoming, the effect of the war and loss in her absence, and stepping up as a peacemaker on her world as well as an ambassador to Earth after establishing Martian-Human cooperation. |

Sorry I've been really busy as of late. I'll get around to reading this tomorrow. Assuming we still have a game here 😂

So, life's been kicking my ass. I want to stick around here but I'm finding that I don't have the time or energy to devote to this without losing balance in other aspects of my life. And I've been sitting on a 99% completed post for a month now, so if I can't find the time or energy to finish 1% of a post and proofread, that tells me I need to just accept it and move on.
Unfortunately, I'll have to drop out of this. Maybe next time one of these springs up a couple years down the road, I'll try my hand at Static again, but for now I need to make sure I'm finding the right balance between things.
Best of luck.

Take your time, Sep! Life happens. 😊

@Sep - No worries! Take your time. I can always re-work her if I need to, or go in another direction entirely with another character. I've got a brain full of ideas. :)

Hi, my name is Christoper Chance and I'm the Human Target. For a reasonable and fair fee I will impersonate you. I'll be the decoy in your complex gangland plans. I'll go on cable news and either cool the flames, or if you'd like, double down on your problematic views while you're free to continue working on your side project of poorly paced and poorly written mystery novels.
