Humanity came close to decimation by devils. But just one man...inspired others to break through their limits, and come together to fight! As Magic Knights, they saved humankind.
Thereafter they called him the Anti-Magic King. He became a legend--along with his friends, rivals, and allies.
It has been one hundred and fifty years since that day.

Introduction

Welcome to Black Clover: Fool's Arcana! If you're not familiar with the anime/manga, this is a fantasy setting in which a roughly medieval world is gifted with Magic. A mage reaches their full potential through a Grimoire. No two mages are exactly alike, even if they share elemental alignments like Fire or Water. The strongest magicians aim to become Magic Knights and protect the Clover Kingdom!

In this RP, you'll take the role of potential Magic Knight Recruits. You have journeyed to take the Magic Knights Entrance Exam! As your magical ability grows and you are sent out on missions to prove yourself, you'll come into conflict with the various parties mentioned above--from simple bandits to political revolutionaries. In the end, you'll have to decide what you stand for, and who you'll support. Will you become a pillar that upholds the justice of the Clover Kingdom? Or will you topple those same columns to bring it all crashing down?

No matter your goal, the only spell that will bring success is "Never giving up!" Surpass your limits--Right here, right now!

@Agunimon Accepted! Is the Abelfraw family known for anything in particular within their holdings, like a kind of industry or agriculture?

@Expllo Accepted! Aside from thievery (which is implied to have avoided violent robbery/assault) and extortion, what other kinds of crimes were Vander's gang known for? And was he actually the leader, or just someone within the gang that pulled Hikari in?

Good question. If it doesn't need to be specific, how about some architectural. If you want more specific, perhaps they are a classic "owns a profitable mine" type of rich family, and so made their fortune some time ago selling stone and mineral in addition to serving as consultants in construction using said stone and mineral. That way, if they can ever rein Lanner in they can ask her to be easy transport

@Zeroth Vander was the leader of the gang, although the gang was more of a family. They operated mainly in smuggling and things that helped keep a low profile, so things like robberies, heists, assassinations, etc. were very few and far between as to not draw attention. They were also often involved with the more corrupt side of the Clover Kingdom and their knights. Hikari was aware of some of these dealings, but they kept him far away from that side as he was the little brother of the gang. Hikari was only involved in stealing, bodyguard during smuggling operations, and getting money from those who owed it.

So, mainly a non-violent gang that sought profit over violence.

"So, you men are being accused of burglary, smuggling, petty theft, pickpocketing, extortion, assault, murder and being involved with corruption. How do you plead?"
"Well aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaactually, your Honor. We only murdered a few people."
"... But you still murdered other people."
"Oh yeah, but not many! Or often!"
"But... You still murdered people."
"Oh for sure, without a doubt!"
"..."
"... .. ... Sooooo... are we free to go ooooor...?
"Sentence is death, electric chair."

@imia Accepted! As adventurers and treasure hunters, was there anything in particular her parents liked to search for? Did they delve into the magical Dungeons that sometimes pop up in the kingdom, or were they brave enough to go into the Grand Magic Zones where Mana causes the environment itself to shift in dangerous ways?

Ended up picking an entirely different FC (because ofc I had to find something newer and shinier), but kept the fire dragon magic thing, just for flavour's sake. The only spell I'm unsure about is the second one cause I'm not sure if there is such a thing as ambient mana.

@SilverPaw The one change I'd like you to make is that, for her magic, I think we should specifically call it Fire Dragon Magic or something along those lines. There are instances in Black Clover of different "types" of Dragons (for instance the "sea god" Leviathan is obviously a water dragon). So leaving it as "Draconic Magic" is a little too open ended for my tastes. Other than that, unless there are other things you'd like to ask about, Solveig is accepted!

Based on the ages you gave, the demon attack that killed her mother would've taken place roughly 11 years ago. 3 of my current Captain NPCs would've been active, though not Captains, at that time, and you say that are father is currently a knight to the present day. Do you have any preferences on which Knight Squadron would've defeated the demon (it could've been a joint effort between multiple knight groups if you'd like), or which squad her father is still part of?

Yeah, fair enough, I can specify the magic name no problem (did not realize Black Clover did actually have dragons lol).

If Crimson Lion is still led by the fire magic royals, then I'd say her father would be a part of that. I don't have a preference on which squad(s) took out the demon though.

@SilverPaw Yep, Crimson Lion is still led by a member of the Vermillion family, who would've been a fairly fresh Magic Knight himself at the time. Putting her dad there would be a good fit! For the demon subjugation, then, we'll say it was... *rolls dice* The Golden Dawn! Lol, fitting enough.

@Th3King0fChaos Hi, good to have you aboard! Your character himself is pretty much fine, but I wanted to go over some things in regards to his magic. In Black Clover, certain elements of magic are known to be rare and stronger than others. The only known character in the canon series to have Sun Magic is a person related to a powerful royal family. In this RP, there is an NPC I have planned who would also have Sun Magic (you couldn't have known this lol so don't worry about it) who has noble heritage, but his works differently than what you've described for your character so we might need to make sure we're working from the same baseline.

But going back to the part about royal families, if you had any story plans regarding his missing father, or his mother's family lineage, that were going to incorporate that (I didn't want to assume whether or not you were familiar with the canon series), that would be something that should probably be hashed out over PM or something. If he's intended to have been born with such a rare magic affinity out of pure happenstance (which isn't impossible by any means) then you'll need to take into account that without the large reserves of Mana possessed by noble/royal bloodlines, his magic would likely be very draining on him at the start of the game.

Hi! I'm not familiar with the manga, but from what I've read this looks like a fun thread to be a part of. I'm brewing up a character in my mind, but I've got a few questions first.

How exactly does someone receive their grimoire?
What's the political structure like in this region?
What are devils like in this setting?

Hello and welcome! In Black Clover, a Grimoire is essentially a spellbook that automatically seems to update itself as the user grows and develops their magic. Magic can be used without a Grimoire (think starting a campfire, watering a garden, or telekinetically manipulating small objects for daily life) but in order to use more advanced and powerful spells, the book is seemingly needed to control and channel the Mana.

When every child in the Clover Kingdom (and presumably in other nations of the setting) turns 15, they are able to attend that year's Grimoire Acceptance Ceremony, which takes place inside large Library Towers around the kingdom. So far, it's not known even in canon how the grimoire system came to be, if the books are made by someone, etc. But as spells appear inside them in a runic script, it allows the mage to better use their own magic at a much more powerful level.

The political structure seems to be that of either an absolute or constitutional monarchy. There is a Clover King, who is the head of government; the Magical Parliament, which is the legislative and judicial branch of the kingdom and seems to be run by members of the nobility; then there is the Wizard King, who is to the Clover King what a Shogun would be to a Japanese Emperor, essentially the highest military power of the land. The Wizard King operates as the head of the Magic Knight Squadrons, and directly beneath him are the Captains of the 9 squads.

The Nobility are those who, from olden days, have accumulated both wealth and magic power. Compared to the Commoners (peasants, serfs, etc), they are usually born with more inherent magical ability and, in the canon series, often look down on the commoners who have less. Because this is a "sequel" styled RP, this discrimination has lessened to a degree, but there is still very much a difference in the social classes.

Because your question about Devils requires some things to be revealed that are later in the series, I'm gonna put it in a hider. I tried to give sort of a "generic overview" that doesn't outright reveal any story secrets, but there could still be spoilers.

Good, I need a character that Ludo will hate, but will ultimately have to come to begrudgingly acknowledge over the course of the rp.
