@RoseKnightJason I've updated Beth's CS as per your suggestion, adding this part:
When cast, a sanguine magic circle gradually expands outward from underneath her feet and those who're touched by said circle will feel their blood being drained out until they have no more to drain. It's functionally a hex-type spell and like all curses, it can be nullified or resisted. In this case, someone with enough physical endurance will be able to brute force through its effects.

Also moving the draft from the Interest Check to here for convenience.

Woot! You can also just copy paste all the info from the interest check to your main post here; that way if anyone stops by they also see what this is about since you have it set to apply! 😁 I’ll have a character sheet up possibly tomorrow. I was thinking maybe a healer? Seems we might need one with all the blood letting.

It'd be extra funni if somehow, all four of our mains have some sort of healing spell. James and Beth already have them, 2 down, 2 to go.

Might break the game, which is why we should do it.

Question: Are we limited to one character?

@AliceInRedHeels for now, yes. In my experience multiple characters tend to cause posting to drag. However, I'm thinking I'd like to allow players to play some witch hunters or British captains for certain sections. Sort of a "bad guy of the week," scenario. So there's options there.

@lexisheeps Careful throwing too many concepts onto one character. I believe Alice was offering to be a more full time healer in her last post, plus like Izurich pointed out we each have healing spells already lol (though James can only heal himself) I say forego the healing if you're going pyromancer and just add in a little extra firepower, eh?

@Izurich imagine James using his self healing, you activate your heal spell, and he just walks through an unlockable attack. If that doesn't get Veronica's men to question their faith who knows what will lmao

Also, the limitations on your new power is perfect. Elizabeth is our first accepted character everyone! Please move her to the characters section

@RoseKnightJason I swear I was just joking! lol

But yeah, I'm leaning heavily towards pyromancer. Still doing some historical research to help sort things out.

Edit; I'm going to have to tap out. I wish you guys a good run though!

@RoseKnightJason Aye aye, cap'n! Moving the CS to the char tab.

Also, as Alice said, you can go ahead and basically copy-paste the interest check to the first post of the OOC tab. Since you've already made this thread, the interest check has served its purpose. Future applicants will just go to the main thread (this one) instead of the old one.

@RoseKnightJason Hey, I'm wondering what sort of tone you're going for with this rp. Obviously there's going to be violence, but are you looking for something bright and adventure-filled, or more dark and gritty?

Oh yeah, regarding this, I mused some ideas about Beth's arch-nemesis, Knight-Bishop Gregor, and would love the opportunity to play as him myself during those 'bad guy of the week' scenarios. By your permission, of course.

@shylarah more on the dark and gritty side. I cannot deny the adventure allegations, but we're thinking pirates of the Caribbean, not One Piece.

Thinking ghost ships, decks of ships filled with zombies, zombie krakens, going to be stranded once or twice, might get close to starving, and a big BIG focus on the war. Robbing, looting, pillaging (minus the murdering of innocent civilians) our main characters will be very morally questionable without being complete sociopaths. Y'know, PIRATES! hopefully this was the answer you're looking for!

@Izurich HMMMMMMMMMMMMM well he is kind of my de'facto tank on the enemy side. One of the only ones I have a real personality in my head for. But I'm sure with a little direction from me you could play him just fine. Think a grumpy conservative for this guy. Doesn't even like how loosely members of the church today take their faith. That's without even scratching the surface of his hatred for witches. It is a bigoted, uninformed, uniform judgement as many religious fanatics do. Now put all of that in a physically imposing, 6'4" frame covered in Platemail and quoting scripture as he cuts men down, and you've got Gregor. The most violent and bloodthirsty of the witch hunters.

Edit: he really is everything Elizabeth hates huh lmao

The delicious irony being that if you see 'witchcraft' as just another religious dogma, between the boomer mindset, fanaticism to their respective faith, and violent bloodlust, then they're really two birds of the same feather. A prime material for the "We're not so different, you and I" villainous monologue.

Maybe that's one of the prime reasons why Liz hates him so much, she sees a (twisted) reflection of herself in him.

@RoseKnightJason A PotC feel would be fine for me. Is there a character sheet outline somewhere?

Also, what's your position on enchanted items? I kinda want my char to have bladed gauntlets that summon in from a pair of bracelets.

Think I'm going wind mage.

OOoooh, or I could do a spin on a necromancer. Not sure how she'd fit into the world here, but...hm. Opinions? I need a small island nation whose culture in regards to magic I can create. And possibly some of their history.

....Honestly there's enough islands in the pacific that perhaps I can just appropriate a small chain of them, and develop that. Sound reasonable?

@shylarah enchanted items are more than welcome! I will say, I'd like it to make sense as to why your character has that specific item even if it's that you robbed another mage for it!

Lots of ways to go with a wind mage! Lots. Can't wait to see what you come up with, but take a look over my example character James at the top of the OOC thread, and the accepted Player character Elizabeth to see where the power level is. It's pretty high, so I could see lots of room for speed enhancements, flying, multi-cutting attacks, etc.

Edit: Having some specific lore around a few islands shouldn't hurt anything, either. So long as it doesn't get too crazy.

I've also been hoping someone might pick necromancer, so go nuts here as well and I'll reign you in when you've gone too far. Having zombies make up a chunk of the crew would be useful in giving the living mates a bigger share of the loot!

@imia please let me know what you're thinking, only one way to find out if it's acceptable!

@RoseKnightJason I'm mostly done with the CS, so let me post what I have so far. Basically necromancers (bone mages) are seen as a good thing by this small island chain (called Pelecola) and magic in general is okay. There was a crisis about, oh, 20-22 years back where one of the island volcanoes erupted, bringing refugees to mainland Australia (that being the closest British colony), where Shiara's mom and dad met and married. fast forward roughly seven years and there's a raid by the Witch Hunters, killing a bunch of the island refugees and resulting in most of the rest returning to the islands.

So yeah, Pelecola and the Peledan islanders, more commonly known as the Raven Isles. Because dragons is too much. =P

I should say, Shiara is not a traditional necromancer. She's more about helping the dead cross over than raising them. But! she does tend to have a number of spirits with her at any given time, from animal to human, and she can shove them in necromantic golems or channel them to help her fight.

EDIT: CS finished!

okok

those are the basic concepts that i have floating around rn, like i said id appreciate outside input on everything!! but if anything abt it raises some sort of red flags or if it just doesn't seem feasible for this type of environment then lmk and i'll happily pivot onto another idea^^
