Hidden deep within the dense forests of Massachusetts, Goddess Hollow is a town that seems to exist outside the constraints of time and space. Beneath its eternal night sky, where a crimson moon reigns and stars streak endlessly across the heavens, the town’s secrets hum with ancient, unfathomable power. To most, it is just a myth—a whispered story of a place forgotten by the modern world. But to the descendants of the last two goddesses to walk the Earth, it is both sanctuary and battleground.

Centuries ago, when the rest of their kind chose to ascend, two goddesses remained behind. They were the last of the Ancients, their presence a tether between the mortal realm and divinity. From their union, a bloodline was born—humans touched by divine intervention, carrying fragments of power within their veins that granted them the blessing, or curse, of immortality. The goddesses protected their descendants fiercely, and as their final act, they created Goddess Hollow—a haven cloaked in secrecy and imbued with enchantments to protect their lineage.

But even the strongest enchantments cannot last forever.

Now, dark forces, long dormant, have begun to awaken. Creatures of the Otherworld, hunters of the divine, and shadowy organizations hungry for power are closing in, drawn by the promise of what the goddesses’ descendants carry within them, eternal life. The once-quiet sanctuary has become a place of dread, its ancient protections faltering, its people terrified. In desperation, the Hollow has sent out its call—a summoning that transcends borders and languages. It seeks those who are not just ordinary mortals, but individuals imbued with magic, no matter how latent or strange.

You are one of them.

One moment, you were living your life—perhaps ordinary, perhaps extraordinary—and the next, you were here. No explanation, no warning, only the mansion that looms over Goddess Hollow and the cryptic townsfolk who call it home. The Mansion is your new dwelling, a labyrinth of creaking halls and hidden rooms, a place that seems alive in its own way. It is here that you meet others like you: young people, all strangers, plucked from their lives and thrust into the unknown. You are told the truth of the Hollow—its history, its peril, and your role in it.

You are not here by accident.

Your magic, whether you’ve mastered it or not, has been called to serve a greater purpose. You must protect the descendants of the goddesses, whose bloodlines are the key to balancing the fragile veil between worlds. But even as you try to come to terms with your newfound responsibility, you sense there is more to the Hollow than the townsfolk reveal. Why were you chosen? Why now? And what secrets lie hidden beneath the eternal red moon?

The answers won’t come easily. Trust is scarce in a place so steeped in mystery, and alliances may be fleeting. The Mansion itself seems to shift and change, its secrets waiting to be discovered—but at what cost? Beyond its walls, the forest looms, dark and forbidding, its whispers beckoning the brave and the foolish alike. The red moon above is a constant reminder of the danger you face, its light both a warning and a promise of the struggles to come. The forces arrayed against you are relentless, and time is running out. Will you stand as a guardian of the divine bloodline, shouldering the mantle of protector? Or will you carve your own path, seeking the truth behind your summoning, even if it leads you to betray those who brought you here? In Goddess Hollow, the choice is yoursbut beware. The choices you make may echo far beyond the eternal night, shaping the fate of the town, the bloodline, and perhaps the world itself.

Goddess Hollow is a city that feels like it’s been pulled straight from a dream—or maybe the nightmarish backdrop of some haunting penny dreadful, depending on how you look at it. The buildings are all Victorian-style, with intricate ironwork, towering spires, and windows that glint in the ever-present glow of the red moon. Cars don’t exist here; instead, gondolas drift silently through canals that weave their way between neighborhoods. Scattered throughout the city are magical portals—swirling, glowing doorways at the edges of courtyards and tucked into alleyways, letting people move effortlessly from one district to another in the blink of an eye.

At the heart of each district is its own townsquare, usually anchored by a statue or fountain of the Goddesses, their figures entwined in an eternal embrace. The city hums with life, but there’s always an air of mystery hanging over it. Either way, Goddess Hollow has a way of making you feel like you’ve stepped into another world—one you’re not quite sure you’ll ever leave.

GM NOTES

Taking a simpler approach with this concept, so we can flesh out the details later if enough people are interested.

8-12 players would be ideal.

This RP will utilize Real-Life faceclaims.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Cheers! 🐸

What is the nature of the magic our characters will have?

@Little Bird

As it's magical in nature, it can be highly diverse and even unusual/strange or more classic superpower-esque. I think as long as the magic isn't something game-shattering like time-travel or omnipotent reality-warping, someone's magical gift can be almost anything.

This is definitely cool! So we would be playing "magical people" (for lack of a better term) that have been summoned by these immortals to help them.

Given that there seems to be more beneath the surface and what could definitely be construed as a violation towards us, the summoned, is there something preventing our characters from just saying "screw it" and leaving? Or should we make characters that for one reason or another have some investment in seeing the journey through willingly?

Either works for me but helps shape initial character concepts :)

@BurningCold

I'd say for the purposes of this RP and their general "destiny", we could call these magical people Guardians.

That is a good question. Well, they could say "screw it" and TRY to leave. But as alluded in the intro, there are forces at work that make leaving, challenging, though not impossible. For example, the forests surrounding Goddess Hollow are perpetually dark and quite unsafe to traverse alone, or even in a group without the proper knowledge to know how to traverse the forests safely. The Townsfolk/Immortals likely know how this works, but why would they tell you how to leave safely? They want you to stay lol

Some might resent being forcefully brought here and become uncooperative. Others might rise to the challenge. This definitely depends on the individual's personality and backstory.

So it's a "choose your own adventure" type situation in this case, either could work conceptually.

@avril Wonderful! I look forward to hearing more about it. If you have any questions, let me know. :)

I've also updated the first post with more visual images of Goddess Hollow so you guys and anyone else that may be interested has more context for what this city/town looks like.

@shadeflare Thank you! :)

I'm gonna wait a few more days to see if we get any more interested parties, and then I'll just create the OOC with what we have and go from there!

About the magic: is it more like spellcasting, where one character can use magic to achieve a variety of effects, or is it closer to a superpower, with each character's magic more or less limited to one thing?

It's basically a superpower, but because it's magical in nature, it can be more strange/unusual/unorthodox, but it could also be more traditional superpower-y as well. But its basically just a magical superpower. So more or less limited to one thing, maybe two if it makes sense thematically or they're not overpowered; for example, a character who can control fire and ice. It's technically two magical powers in one, but it's not OP and I get that it would be a concept or makes sense thematically, so that's okay. One power may have multiple applications, so it all depends on the magical power.

Just nothing game breaking, like time travel or omnipotent reality warping, things like that.

Another question (and I'm so sorry because I only just thought of it), I know you mentioned that Goddess Hollow doesn't have any cars, does that go for any other kinds of modern technology? I'm assuming our characters are being plucked from the present day, so does Goddess Hollow have things like phones, computers, TV, etc.?

You're fine dear. You can ask whatever questions you want. :)

That's a good question. I would say Goddess Hollow, aside from the magical stuff like the portals and what not, is about advanced technologically as what they had in Downtown Abbey, which is set in the 1920s. There are no cars in the Hollow only because the infrastructure of the city is more like Venice, so cars are arbitrary to their existence, hence walking, gondolas, and magical portals. But Goddess Hollow is like a city set out of time, probably reflective of 1920s London, so as the world modernized around them, Goddess Hollow seems to do so at a much slower pace, probably due to their isolation. So they have things that existed in the 1920s, like old telephones, electric lights, radios, gramophones, old folding cameras, even toasters. They might have guns too. I mean they did exist in the 1920s.

But naturally, they wouldn't have the modern technologies of the world, like computers, mobile phones, robotics, A.I, internet, etc. They may or may not have simple televisions, which did exist in the 1920s, but weren't widely available yet. But, to keep it really simple, you could basically think of Goddess Hollow as like the wizarding world in Harry Potter right? Why send an email or a text when you can send an owl instead? lol It's much more aesthetic and thematic to their universe. So yeah, as long as it isn't anything too modern, we can probably just hand wave it away.
