Not that it’s a big problem, but isn’t there a lot of overlap with Mikako re: working a lot, optimistic nature, etc? Nothing wrong with having two cheerful gals but it would be interesting if she were on the more flirty side to better put her apart from mikako. Her forcefulness also relates her to junko. Obvs traits aren’t locked to one character but I do think the more the traits are different between characters the more drama / interesting interactions will be had.
Also, I can’t really tell if our characters knew her before her change, or if they only met her once she moved to the area after her parents deaths.
Overall, I think there’s some potential here to be a flirty, ditzy kind of gal with hidden depths, but it’s up to you!

Oh yeah, Koharu is definitely more on the flirty/brash side. I think the interesting thing is that she's also quite different from Mikako in that she does things much more for herself. She doesn't feel obligated to work for anyone else, everything she does is in order to get ahead in life. She's a lot more self-centred in that sense (and I think most Japanese people would think so) but also as much more self-fulfilled and self-directed. Koharu has had to grow up in ways different from the others - not so much in terms of being responsible for someone else, but in dealing with the adult world and claiming her own space.

@Kensai Lol for sure! I also think He saw her struggling a bit so he offered to help during breaks/lunch time. Since they're in the same year, maybe they're even in the same class!

He might even have been the one to recognise her in the first place. Might be interesting if Koharu changed her surname to her (maternal) grandmother's when she was taken in, so nobody would have twigged at first. But he's the guy who's like, "Oh yeah, that's totally Koharu from elementary school, don't you all remember?" It would make sense since he's the one with the artist's eye, so he'd be able to see past the changes and suss her out.

On another note, Koharu also has her own apartment and doesn't have to share space, so her home is likely to become a hangout just because the gang can let loose there. Just a thought.

@Kensai I think that’s a great angle! That sets Koharu apart from Eikichi too - forced to grow up vs wanting to grow up.

Does seem like a very interesting addition to the cast, yeah. I don't think there'd be too many issues of overlap with Mikako, either, since they're more foils than the same archetype. That said, her situation also has a ton of parallels with Suzuka, though, to the point that I feel like it's a bit too one-to-one. Both had some upheavals in the family that resulted in them moving away for a time, underwent a drastic personality shift in the intervening years while they were separated from the group, then ended up striking a deal with an aunt/uncle to work part time at a restaurant in exchange for being allowed to stay while attending high school, with their own apartments and living arrangements covered as part of said deal. While their actual characterizations really couldn't be more different, the backstory and living situation overlap does feel like it's a little too much.

Gotcha. Sorry to nitpick about it, it just struck me as something that might kinda hinder both our characters in the long run if we were both doing the same thing.

Rest well!

I don’t have too much to add in that direction, but it’d be nice if they became enemies. They have mirror-matched backstories but couldn’t be any more diametrically opposed to one another and whatnot.

@Feyblue
Having reread your character writeup, I do agree that the backstories are uncomfortably similar, although the girls have responded in very different ways. I have made a few changes to Koharu's, although I think that it would be interesting to have them be mirror images of each other. I think a lot of it would be emphasis - Koharu is really mostly alone in the world aside from her friends, so her work is very much a matter of supporting herself, whereas for Suzuka it's more about a family obligation; Koharu rents from a landlord (and I've switched from a whole apartment to a room in a share house), while Suzuka is living above her aunt's cafe. Fundamentally, Koharu's position is significantly more precarious than Suzuka's and I think that will come out during play.

That having been said, I think Koharu could work at a variety of jobs, going through them with the seasons and as availability allows: cleaning, delivery, konbini, izakaya, packing, beer seller at the ballpark, whatever. It could even be a bit of a schtick - "Where's Koharu working this week?"

I don't think they'd become enemies though: for one thing Koharu isn't the sort to have enemies, she tries to get along with everyone even if she does step on a lot of toes along the way. Might be that Suzuka doesn't like her very much, but Koharu will still repeatedly and cheerfully get in her space until the ice thaws.

Sorry for vanishing all day, big storm rolled through and I lost power for the past few hours.

Just with the change of her living situation, I definitely feel like that keeps them similar enough for them to like, relate their circumstances to one another, while still having some pretty major differences. Koharu's got barely any space to herself, and meanwhile Suzuka's got an empty apartment all by her lonesome. Plus, I do really like the whole bit of her working a new job every time the cast sees her. That's both a goofy and charming spin on an otherwise very emotionally fraught situation, and just feels like it would have a ton of potential for her to just be always showing up out of nowhere.

As for enemies, Suzuka doesn't really hold grudges or view people as "enemies" either, so much as maybe being a bit overwhelmed by people who are too forward and who she doesn't really know how to deal with. Part of her whole deal is just that she comes off as incredibly unfriendly and hostile, but most of that harshness is entirely unintentional on her part. She's still got the friendly, playful childhood friend center, it's just buried under a veritable glacier of social awkwardness, anxiety, and inability to read other people's social cues.

At this point, we're just waiting on @ERode and @Vertigo to add their sheets, as well as potentially one more male role to fill out the roster. Might poke some people I know to see if anybody's interested in taking that last spot in the mean time. Either way, I'll be starting to work on the intro post here so I'll have it ready as soon as our cast is assembled.

I really can't wait to get this show on the road. I think this cast is gonna be a ton of fun. :>

Sorry for the absence, was away from town for the weekend, then was swamped with work for our Wednesday deadline-- and then caught a fever. Truly a week. But! I also hope to finish up the sheet and plan connections with the rest of the cast by the weekend. Got a few posts to do in order to catch up as well.

Right, so! Making some edits to his background so that Ryuu would've also spent some time on the island in his earlier childhood, then moved away when his parents wanted to avoid the bad rap on the island, until they realized Ryuu acted even worse on the mainland and yeeted him back to the island to live with his grandparents. Hope that's not too similar to Suzuka, but otherwise, as it is, he would've only met the rest of the cast for the first time some years ago, ha. On that note, going to think up some connections. Some initial thoughts:

- This is a more recent connection, but someone could be playing the same online game as Ryuu. He does play a female character, and if the game utilizes pings/chat more than vc (like league for example), it's possible his teammates assume he's a girl too (without him realizing they do so), which could lead to fun shenanigans. Also, I realized I never replied to it, oops, but Fey, you mentioned Suzuka could've roped Ryuu into giving him advice on what to gift a guy, etc. and well, we could also combine it with them playing together online, her thinking he's a girl, and asking him because he seems to know a lot about dudes lol.

- Since Ryuu was pretty turbulent even when young, and I'm shuffling the timeline of his past around anyway, maybe he could've saved another character from a bully/bullies, whether they were friends at the time or he just happened upon a situation where he felt the need to intervene? The whole incident that first got him a bad rap as a violent kid, when he broke a bully's nose.

- Maybe someone (Mikako? Haru?) always had a really calming presence when they were with Ryuu, and the reason his behaviour spiraled even further after the move away was because he no longer had that constant in his life.

- Also for Mikako, since she was popular in elementary school and Ryuu... was decidedly not, I could see people starting to talk, and potentially being jealous of the two's friendship. So maybe in an attempt to not cause her trouble, Ryuu would have started to distance himself from her (without telling her the reason ofc) a little before he was suddenly forced to move away, so he never had a chance to explain, and there could be that added layer of "oh he/she probably hates me now" in the current day?

- Since Junko was a lonely child and Ryuu was a bit of an outcast himself, I could see them having had a chance encounter somewhere in nature or something? Just a fleeting afternoon/evening, happening upon the same "secret spot" by chance. Maybe towards the end of Ryuu's initial stay at the island, so they never really got to know who the other was properly. Or maybe it didn't matter to them to ask.

For reference:
Eikichi, Mikako, Haru, Junko, Takaya, Koharu - lived on the island their whole lives
Suzuka - lived on the island as a child, moved away for 3-4 years, JUST moved back for her second year of highschool
Ryuu - visited the island as a child, moved away, came back

For the record, I don't think it's bad if Ryuu isn't as locked in to the island as the rest of the characters. Maybe the island was a summer vacation spot for him? That would give him some background in the area, but living here would still be a new(er) experience for him.

Oh, I actually really like that take! Maybe Ryuu and his parents came there every year for the summer, until the breaking of the bully's nose incident happened there, and they stopped due to the aforementioned fear of a reputation sullied. That way him never coming back one year would've been abrupt and still leave room for a lot of misunderstandings and lost connections.

I think he would've been sent to his grandparents and came back a... year or two-ish ago? Enough to gain his bad reputation in such a small community, but not yet familiarize himself with the others all that well. He did only just start in the high school as a first year as well, after having a gap year of probably helping around his grandparents' house and such. So he's definitely seen and interacted with the cast in passing after his return, maybe made acquaintances/friends with a few, but not yet everyone.

Honestly, I kinda like the similarity there. Suzuka had to live with her grandparents because of family circumstances, only to move back due to awkwardness at her new school, whereas Ryuu had to move away because of issues at school.

As for them meeting through a game and not realizing it, that sounds absolutely on-brand for this genre, lol. I dunno how much Suzuka plays online games and the like, though, since she's never really liked being in her own house. Always tries to get out and do stuff because being on her own creeps her out. Could be a hobby she picked up while she was living with her grandparents, though, since she was way out in the boonies and even if she did get out of the house, there wasn't really anywhere to go or anything to do for fun.

Could also have them meet through some of his cat-related antics, solely for the funny image gap of her only knowing him as "that nice guy at the park who's always feeding and taking care of the sakura cats" and then hearing concerning rumors that Mikako is getting mixed up with a dangerous delinquent. Immediately goes to confront him and then -- Oh, hey, it's my cat friend!

Either way, I do really like the idea that in one form or another he's the one she ends up going to for romantic advice and vice versa, because the two of them are probably the most socially awkward people in the entire cast, so it really is just the blind leading the blind. XD

If it works out timeline-wise that this happened on one of his earlier visits, he could well have rescued Koharu? Back when she was in her timid phase.

Also, I should note that I did get one more person interested in playing as a male chara, so we should have a balanced cast going forward.

In order to give them time to write up their app, I will be putting off the start just a little bit longer, though that's partly also for my own benefit. Losing a day and a half in the middle of the week to a power outage (it actually shut off again right after I made the post saying it was over >_<) has put me way behind on a bunch of work stuff, so I need to catch up on that first as well.

Either way, I'm thinking I'll try and drop the intro post this Sunday, so expect it then. Sorry once again for the delays -- things have just been kinda crazy on my end.

@Yankee Omg I adore him, he's an absolute cutie! Haru would def take him out to places and stuff with the friend group. I think especially after hearing how often he goes to cram school, Haru would for sure invite him to have some fun all the time until he accepts lol.

I lowkey think he might be the event planner like "Hey! There's a new restaurant, let's check it out!" or "I heard there's a new exhibit the art club is holding before they graduate, Let's go!"

@Yankee I was just thinking a nerdy type is exactly what we needed on the boy side! Excellent!
Re: pairings, I guess Ei x Suzu and Mika x Ryuu are pretty set, but I'm not really sure about the rest? I guess it's up to everybody else to decide. I can say that Eikichi is gonna annoy the heck out of this guy until he becomes friends with him and Haru, probably because he's caught a glimpse of the okatu side underneath and decided it would be fun to mess with him. Or they can already be friends!

Eikichi & Haru & Mika & Suzu - get along well
Junko - not really "friends" with anybody?
Koharu & Takaya - ???

The more established friendships, the better, in my opinion.
